Finding Bigfoot (2011) s01e06 Episode Script

Alaska's Bigfoot Island

On this episode of "Finding Bigfoot"the team travels to a small fishing community on Prince of Wales Island off the coast of Alaska where for hundreds of years, the Native-American community has been reporting frightening encounters with bigfoot.
Now, recent sightings of the creature have once again struck fear in the citizens of the island.
Looked about right in its eyes.
I froze up.
I honestly thought I was gonna die.
The mayor of the small fishing village of Hydaburg has called Matt Moneymaker and the rest of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization to investigate these encounters in hopes of finding answers.
Thought we'd call somebody to investigate deeper into the things that are happening here.
To get to the bottom of this Alaskan mystery, the team pushes the limit of technology as they try to lure the creature to them - Hey, Matt.
- Yeah? We just got a hit on perimeter four.
All in an effort to determine once and for all if bigfoot does exist in Prince of Wales, Alaska.
Come here.
Come here, Bobo.
Check it out.
Is that a footprint? It was impossibly large.
It definitely wasn't human.
I've been tracking Sasquatches for 25 years.
These animals, in fact, are real.
I've seen them.
They're here.
I'm having a really difficult time finding an explanation for this.
There's something on the hill! I do think there's a 'squatch in these woods.
The team and I have traveled up to America's last great frontier Alaska.
We're on the island of Prince of Wales on our quest to find and document proof of bigfoot.
This bountiful island is covered with 17 million acres of temperate rainforest, and it has the largest concentration of black bears anywhere in North America.
That's a clear indicator that this island is capable of supporting a population of large mammals like Sasquatches.
In fact, the natives on this island have stories of Sasquatches that go back hundreds of years since they first arrived on the island.
But recently, there have been several peculiar incidents on the south end of the island in the small native village of Hydaburg that have the citizens concerned so much so that the mayor of Hydaburg, Tony Christianson, contacted the BFRO hoping that we could shed some light on this situation and be able to tell him exactly what's going on.
So when we hear that the mayor wants us to come up there and to help him look into what's going on, we just can't refuse.
I've wanted to come here to Prince of Wales Island for a long, long time.
With so few people, how could there be so many reports? Well, we're gonna get to find out because we're gonna go meet the mayor of Hydaburg.
He sent us some photographs that he's collected from people.
Now, there's some interesting things in here.
Unfortunately, there's ambiguous things, as well.
This looks like a giant bird nest of some sort, but clearly a bird did not make it.
It's also great whoever took this photo put an axe in there for scale.
Right.
Now, Matt, do you know of any other animals that might do something like that? Well, there's a couple animals that will pile up stuff like that.
The fact that it was all stripped off this tree, that kind of narrows it down to something with hands.
I mean, it's either humans or it's a Sasquatch.
One thing with that, Matt, if that's a cedar tree, lots of times the natives, for art, will take the long cedar strips and will create a debris pile to get to the prime cedar swathes.
When natives strip cedar trees for the bark, they take them off in strips, like cleaner strips.
That's torn up, you know? I have photographs of the snow tracks that were recently found.
We have two distinct footprints that show toes.
You can see those toes clear as day.
Very, very clear.
Very, very crisp.
The toes in this case indicate human-like structure but far too big to be human.
They also look a lot like the footprints that were found from 1958 to 1964 in the Bluff Creek region.
That's the first things I noticed.
To me, I'm getting the impression that there's more than one here.
Looks like two.
It looks like two going down this road.
And it looks like there's a bunch of deer tracks, too.
I can see where it could be a larger animal track degrading and then two impressions right there could be an elk.
And I don't see melted out.
I see clear, crisp toes.
I have no problem saying that this guy took photos of a bigfoot track.
Now, there's one other photograph that I have, and it might actually show a Sasquatch itself.
The photo was supposedly taken by a woman who had a cellphone.
Yeah, it's blurry.
She could have been swinging the camera around on a stationary object to get the blur, or it could have been something walking, so My question is whether it's an animal at all or an illusion.
There's no scale or context.
That could be anything that's large and black.
That could be a bear.
It could be a guy in a gorilla suit with some padding.
Yeah.
It looks thick.
It looks real burly.
If it's real.
I mean And if it is a Sasquatch photo, I've been trying to take a picture of these things for almost 20 years.
It's better than anything I've ever gotten.
It's just really hard to say based on this alone.
All the photos are pretty ambiguous, so we need more background information about what's been happening around the town of Hydaburg.
So I'm looking forward to talking with Tony and with Howie Dagg.
He's the one who took the photos of the footprints in the snow.
Howdy.
We thought we'd call up somebody who may have some expertise in looking and trying to investigate deeper into the things that are happening here and causing some concern with the citizens.
Tony, you've been the mayor for about five years.
And in the five years, you've had people anything unusual goes on, you hear about it.
Yeah, pretty much.
We do a lot of talking around here.
And, you know, back in the '50s and '60s, the one rampaging the community and trees standing on end and all kinds of things up on the Klawock Lake.
We've heard about this place for a long time, and we knew there's been some incidents down here, and we were really happy to hear that there's been some recent things, too.
You know, of all the photographs you sent in, I found these footprints in the snow to be most compelling.
Yeah, a lot of locals send in photos, and they don't really want to talk about it.
This particular set here, Howie was willing to give his name and submitted those photos.
You know, it would be cool if you could take us up to where you found these things.
Yeah, I'd be willing to take you up there.
Excellent.
Howie took us out to the location to show us the context in which he found the footprints.
The area and the forest here is so thick that animals, even Sasquatches, will choose to walk on roads and trails whenever possible.
And sure enough, that's exactly where Howie found those footprints.
This is it.
So this is where I saw the tracks.
They initially started here.
And they came right down through here.
And they went right up the road right up the mountain.
It was after school.
And so, I hopped in my truck, and I drove up here with my neighbor to come hike and kind of relax and unwind.
We parked a little bit down the road.
We were walking by right here, and at first we didn't even notice the tracks.
Then after awhile, we were walking and I stopped, and one of the tracks had toes, big toes.
So I stopped and we took some pictures.
You know, it was kind of creepy.
I did kind of feel like we were being watched, but I was kind of skeptical, so I kind of pushed on.
I really wanted to know if what was going on was true.
Are these really bigfoot prints, you know? So I followed the tracks all the way up the mountain, and up top, there comes a point where the road becomes choked with trees.
And I noticed there was branches snapped about seven feet high just going straight up the logging road.
And the sun was setting.
It was getting kind of dark.
My neighbor, she got really scared and wanted to get out of there.
And I got scared, too.
So we turned around and got off the mountain before it got too dark.
So what did your neighbor say it was right off the bat? She instantly said it was gogit, which is Hyda for bigfoot.
The gogit is the word they use to describe these hairy giants that are often seen in different parts of Prince of Wales.
So you saw toes in a lot more than just that one track? Yes.
There was probably three or four tracks in a row that you could clearly see toes in.
Can you show me with your hands about how large these tracks were? They were probably about, you know, a chest width apart.
There is a scale item in one of those photographs that we have right here.
It's your boot.
So if I measure your boot and I measure the print, I can do some simple ratios to figure out how long that print actually is, you know, more or less.
So I'd like to do that, if that's all right with you.
Oh, yeah.
That's perfectly fine.
Cliff and his foot fetish.
Luckily, Howie wore the same boots when he met us as he wore that night, so he gave us a scale item.
What I did is I took the width of his boot and then I compared it to the width of the Sasquatch footprints.
All right, so using some rough numbers of your feet here, I have 61/2 inches wide.
And then about 17.
3 inches long.
- You're talking about one big boy.
- Yeah.
That's right about where you put it, right? About chest width.
Bingo.
A 17 1/2-inch track puts it out of the range of an adult female because usually their tracks are more down in the 14-, 15-inch range.
If you take all the Sasquatch footprints on record and you kind of graph them, they clump up into two different sections, basically.
One's about 17 inches and the other one's about 14, 15 inches long.
So I think what we have here is probably a large adult male cruising along the road.
Yeah, with that size of track, you're talking about an 8- to 9-footer.
I mean, personally, the first Sasquatch I ever saw was huge.
It was right around the 10-foot mark, and that thing had a 17 3/4-inch track.
And you said you couldn't even reach where it was breaking off the branches.
Yeah.
Howie, what do you think it was? Well I think it was a Sasquatch.
You know, it's nothing that I could identify, so It certainly looks more like a 'squatch than a bear track.
It's got more of that toe arch of a 'squatch track than a human.
So just by process of elimination, those are 'squatch tracks, and that's what made those tracks right before you came up here.
Taken in context, the location along with the measurements that Cliff did, I have no doubt that those were tracks made by a Sasquatch.
I think this was overlaid tracks for me.
As I am looking at that, I see what would be a bear track with an ungulate, a deer or elk, stepping in, pushing down to the ground, snow melt around it creating the toes.
No question in my mind.
I really feel that you guys did track a bigfoot that day.
The fact that the branches were broken high, there's more than one that show the toe pattern.
You know, 'squatches are real, they leave tracks, and that's what it looks like.
It's got to be more than a coincidence that all the tribes here have the same kind of stories the same beliefs about bigfoot and Sasquatch being in the area.
So, Howie, the tracks came down this way, and they went up that road, and they got to the point where there was the big tree breaks, and that's as far as you followed them, right? Yeah.
Yes.
You know, guys, I think that's the place we should do the night investigation up there from where the furthest he went.
- Up high? - Yeah.
That way we can do calls down that way and this way.
Absolutely.
We'll go up there and cause a ruckus.
You guys scan this road and look for anything crossing.
We'll see if we can't draw him up there.
You let us know if you hear something.
- I'm feeling it.
- Okay, good.
This looks like a good place for it.
This is the place.
You know, I got to tell you something, Bobo.
What's that? Here we go.
This is a nice game trail.
Okay, folks, we're gonna get our recorder going.
And then we'll give you the all clear.
How about I'll start it with a howl and then one of you guys answers.
Okay.
Ready.
Okay.
Was that you? Bobo, was that you? That was not me.
I swear to God.
It sounded like a sledgehammer smashing a rock.
I heard that.
This is classic 'squatch strategy.
If you get near the one, the other one behind you will make a big noise to turn you around and get you away from a female or young.
Matt, we've got heavy action right now.
I swear to God to you, not more than 100 feet behind us, a loud rock knock.
Just like bam.
Rock 'n' roll.
Awesome.
They're here.
I say let's get up there.
All right, very good.
Excellent.
Good.
Bobo, hold on.
Come here.
Come here, Bobo.
That looks like a footprint.
We're here in Alaska on Prince of Wales Island.
There's been a lot of sightings of bigfoots on this island.
We came up here because the mayor, Tony Christianson, asked us to come up here and help look into what's been going on around that town.
So we decided to split up into two teams and then head out into the forest.
We investigated the area and found a possible bigfoot track.
Bobo, hold on.
Come here.
Come here, Bobo.
That looks like a footprint.
Holy Awesome.
It's so small.
I mean It could be a baby.
Look at the water coming in.
- Look, it's filling in right now.
- Yeah.
We're just a couple minutes behind it.
All right, Bobo, so what I'm gonna do is put my boot in and jump across for comparison.
Oh me.
That's doing the same damn thing.
Look how small your foot looks now once it fills in.
Okay.
I think, honestly, that it's a young one that we threatened it, and it bounced, and that was the mama or older sibling that just did that big crack behind us when we came in.
This is a classic, classic case.
Matt, Ranae found a track, and we watched it fill in and she stepped next to it and it filled in just the same.
It's not gonna hurt if we mosey on in your direction.
We've got a thermal.
Yeah, come on up.
That's the original track.
That's my boot track.
Matt, we're gonna walk up the uphill trail that we haven't taken yet and leave this area for you guys to see if you can get any new activity.
Very good.
For the next few hours, we spread out and looked around with thermals, and we saw nothing.
It was starting to get light.
We didn't know what else we could do at that point, and we were running out of batteries.
So we decided to call it a night and head on back.
After going up to Howie's location and analyzing the footprint photos, we searched the area and came across a possible footprint find.
To help us determine exactly where the Sasquatches are right now on the island, we've organized a meeting with the locals in the small town of Klawock.
Hopefully that will give us a better picture of what's going on here on the island and exactly where it is happening.
Hello, folks.
My name is Matthew Moneymaker.
I'm the head of a group called the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization.
We're here on this island because we know that there's been a lot of sightings of these animals here.
We're here to find out about that.
Were here to hear your stories.
If I can see a show of hands, how many people here have seen these animals? Over by Red Cliffs, by Klawock Lake, we saw this upright creature just go across the road.
This thing was just humongous.
That night, there wasn't hardly any traffic on the road.
And all of a sudden comes a big chunk of wood.
It didn't fall down.
It came straight at us.
And it hit the corner of my cab, and shook it so hard.
It was amazing.
We heard something that let out a scream that turned into a yell and then went into a real, real deep, loud roar.
I got into a spot where I could smell something pretty foul.
And I'm looking around trying to figure out what the smell is, and a tree about 18 inches, you know, the girth of it around, started shaking.
We were out hunting, me and my cousin.
We came upon this clearing, and we saw this tall hairy thing upright, step behind a tree.
I believe it to be true.
It is here.
When you see it, when you hear it, you leave it alone.
You don't bother it.
You respect it.
Say a prayer.
So after the town hall meeting, we had identified some witnesses whose stories we wanted to look into.
Cliff and I decided we want to go with Brenda back to her location and see where that happened.
Bobo and Ranae would go with Nyna, whose taxi was hit by a piece of wood to see what that looks like and to hear Nyna tell her story.
I can't wait to talk to Nyna more in depth.
We got to talk to her a little bit at the meeting.
But that's a pretty crazy story, getting a branch thrown at her.
This is a highway.
I mean, this is a road where cars are going by, so what was it that would have spurred this attack? I'm excited to meet with her, definitely.
I really want to go to this location with Nyna because so many pieces of the story just don't make sense to me.
And I'm hoping that her being there with me that I can maybe put the pieces together.
Either I'm gonna completely disagree with the story or at least have a better understanding of what happened to her.
Well, this is the spot.
So, I'm a cab driver, and I come back and forth a lot during the night.
Had a passenger with me.
2:30 in the morning.
And out of nowhere, this piece of wood comes flying at us.
Hit the front end of the car and cracked my windshield all the way across.
Something big had to be throwing it 'cause the whole van just shook.
And I wanted to stop.
He said, "No, no, no, we've got to keep going.
" I could tell he was afraid.
So I dropped him off and came back the next day.
I was looking around to find the piece of wood, and found it.
It had a smell that was gross.
And I kind of looked around up in the trees, and there's these big green eyes looking at me.
You could see the body form.
It was humongous.
It was a creature you saw up in the tree when you came back the next morning? Uh-huh.
Is there any chance that that could have been a black bear? No way.
No way.
This was longer, thicker legs.
I don't know how to explain it.
More human.
I just know it wasn't a bear.
I've seen too many bears.
What did you think you were looking at? A Sasquatch.
When I initially heard Nyna's story at the town hall meeting, I thought that this could be an instance where maybe some kids are on the side of the road throwing a piece of wood.
And then when she came back the next day, pulling over, glancing up, that definitely could have been a bear.
I mean, there are a lot of the explanations for the individual pieces of the story.
Could you show us the exact tree? Yeah.
It's right up here.
I'll show you.
All right, we'll follow you.
I've heard of Sasquatches up in trees, and I've even heard of adult males up in trees.
It's kind of rare for them to be up in the trees.
You usually hear the younger ones, like the human-sized ones or smaller, not much bigger up to 7 foot.
That's what you generally hear about in the trees.
So this is the tree, huh? Yeah, it's right here.
And that's the branch you were talking about? It was right on that branch looking around at me.
Wow.
And there was no scuff marks? Nothing.
And you grew up hearing these stories.
Up said you've heard about them being in trees before? All my life.
I've heard of them being in trees, sitting beside the trees, but this was my first experience seeing it.
We'll have Bobo go down and you can get an estimate.
Use him for a size comparison.
He's 6'4".
We'll try to use him.
All right, now look at the bottom of his feet.
And imagine, you know, you're visualizing him up there.
For something to even start shimmying up there, he would have to have superlong arms just to even get going.
So we can rule out a person most definitely.
This makes no sense in a biological standpoint.
Primates, gorillas, large primates they're not up in trees.
And this branch that it's standing on wouldn't be able to hold the weight of an animal that's 800 to 1,000 pounds.
People have seen Sasquatches climb trees, and they climb just like the natives climb the coconut tree they wrap their arms and shimmy up their feet just like that, and really quick.
Did you see hands or anything? I was more fixed on those green eyes.
How did the spacing of the eyes look compared to my eyes? They were probably about like that.
It is a strange story, but 'squatches are strange animals.
They do weird things.
They do things that make sense to them, not us.
Not every 'squatch is a rocket scientist.
You know, I mean, I'm sure there's some dumber ones, and that one might have been one of the dumb ones.
Well, Nyna, I want to thank you so much for sharing this with us and taking us here.
I really appreciate it.
Thank you.
I was so blown away by that meeting by how many people came out.
But, you know, the witness that impressed me most was Brenda.
She's a native from a Tlingit tribe.
It was a daylight sighting.
There was more than one witness there.
And unless this thing was way far away, then it was a bigfoot.
It's an interesting situation with the natives and the bigfoots.
They know a lot more than they're willing to say.
And there seems to be a special relationship with them and these animals that's different than with others.
It has a spiritual significance for them.
So this is where it happened? This is it.
So, my cousin and I were deer hunting with my aunt.
We're looking out over the woods here.
She has her rifle with her, and she's looking up this direction.
You know, she blew her deer call, and she was looking this direction.
So my cousin and I, we stared straight ahead.
We were looking for deer, and we saw this tall hairy creature step behind a tree.
We came up here to Alaska to look into possible bigfoot activity and meet the locals and hear their stories and narrow down where the bigfoots live on this island.
One in particular was Brenda's intriguing hunting encounter.
So my cousin and I, we stared straight ahead.
We were looking for deer.
And we saw this tall hairy creature step behind a tree.
You could see the highlights of hair.
It was so big.
I couldn't believe what I just saw.
I mean, I didn't say anything at first.
I didn't say a word.
And finally, my cousin, he looked at me really slow and he says, "Did you see that?" And I was like, "Yeah, did you?" And so, we finally realized that we saw the same thing.
We were there about five minutes and we told my aunt, "We got to go.
I don't like it here.
" It was scary, you know? So you sat for 5 or 10 minutes.
Did you ever see the thing leave the area? No.
So you left before it did? Yes.
It was as if it was hiding from us.
It didn't want us to see it.
That is a very, very interesting and subtle detail that, to me, lends a lot of credibility to what she said.
When Brenda saw it, it took one long graceful step from where it was to get behind a tree.
We figured it would be a good idea to have Cliff go down there and get in the area where she said it was standing and where it moved.
I wanted to put myself in the same place to kind of gauge the creature's behavior and maybe get a size estimate on it.
- There it is.
- That's the one.
It was on the left side of the tree.
It took one step and it was behind the tree.
So, Cliff had to take a few kind of clumsy steps to get behind the tree.
That tells me this was a big, tall animal that did that.
So the height of it we can have Cliff put his hand up.
Was it much taller than that? Much taller.
So, Cliff, yeah, put your hand up.
Much taller.
She's saying it was much taller.
What about this? Yeah.
It was that big.
There you go.
- It was that tall.
- Yeah.
That would put it about 8, 81/2 feet tall.
Okay, Cliff, excellent.
Why don't you come back on up.
All righty.
I had to stand on a log to even get close to how large that thing was, and using my hand height when I was standing on the log, gauging it against the tree, we estimated that the creature was about 8, 81/2 feet tall.
So no tracks in there? No, no, no.
There's skunk cabbage coming up that's been nibbled down, but besides that, nothing.
Okay.
Based on the height, it was a very, very large creature.
There's nothing else that lives in this area that is that big.
I think that you saw a Sasquatch based on the movements and the location and the height and the general habitat.
And I do think it was a male.
I think it would have been too big to be a female.
You feel honored to have had this creature show itself to you, you know? It was such a profound moment in my life.
We are named after this tall hairy man.
That's where we originated from.
That's how we got our name.
We followed this tall hairy man up the river.
So your clan's history is intricately tied to the Sasquatch itself? Yep.
It is very deeply embedded in our culture.
It's who we are.
We encounter Native Americans who are very wary about sharing their stories with us.
The elders almost never do.
They really keep their knowledge of Sasquatch a secret and private and quiet out of respect for Sasquatches.
The fact that Brenda was willing to share a little bit with us means a lot.
During our meeting with the mayor, he told us about a young boy named Osh who had a terrifying encounter with a gogit.
Gogit is the name the Hyda people use for Sasquatches in Alaska.
The incident happened right outside the town of Hydaburg.
Luckily, Tony arranged for us to meet him at the site of his encounter, and, hopefully, we can help ease his mind.
We have to evaluate this considering his age.
Is there a chance for misidentification? Absolutely.
We need to go to the spot.
We need to check this thing out to try to get to the bottom of it.
I've heard similar stories to Osh's before.
He had a pretty close encounter, full-on daylight, while he was deer hunting.
He was shaken by this encounter, so I'm really looking forward to going to the site with him.
Hey, Osh.
How you doing? Good, man.
Thanks for coming out.
So, how does it feel to be back down here? Pretty scary, you know, but I'm willing to face my fears now.
Where did you go in? How did you access it? I drove my four-wheeler down this road.
I parked here, and I went in on foot back this way.
Are you feeling okay taking us in there and showing us? - Yeah, sure.
- All right.
- All right, well, lead the way and we'll follow you.
- Okay.
We met Osh at the location where he had his encounter, and even now, he's incredibly resistant to go into those woods.
So what happened that day? I was out hunting early one morning, by myself.
As I was following this deer back, and it kept going.
I got to this point where I thought I should turn around.
And as soon as I turn around, I heard these loud screams coming in three directions.
And I just froze.
We've traveled to Prince of Wales, Alaska, in search of bigfoot.
Our research team is in the process of gathering eyewitness testimony and narrowing down our target area.
Hopefully, this will help us prove the existence of these elusive creatures on this remote island in Alaska.
I was out hunting early one morning by myself.
And as soon as I turn around, I heard these loud screams coming in three directions.
And I just froze.
And I turned, and there was about this 8-foot creature.
He was just standing there just staring at me.
I froze up.
I looked it right in its eyes.
It was the most terrifying sight I've ever seen in my life.
It just shook me.
And I put my head straight down and I closed my eyes and about a good three minutes later, I hear just thump, thump, thump.
And I opened my eyes, and I look up, and I could just see trees just clearing, although the screams are still going on from the other creatures.
It was walking away from you? Yeah.
It's hard for me to imagine the kind of fear that Osh probably had at that point, but I could see it on his face.
It was very clear - he was unnerved.
How did you feel during all this? What was going through your mind? It was just a flashback of my life.
I honestly thought I was gonna die.
It was bad.
You've got to imagine there was this 12-year-old boy out there, you know the little deer rifle, and all of a sudden here's this 8-foot, 800-pound whatever, just some gigantic, huge monster growling at him.
And he just went into shock.
What do you think you saw? I think I saw Sasquatch.
Now, the mind plays tricks on you, especially in a moment of complete fear, but I really believe this kid saw something.
If you point it out here, how close would you say it was when you first saw it? Probably 20, 25 feet.
Probably to that tree right there.
I'm kind of interested to see how big this was.
I'm gonna go stand in between those two trees for size comparison.
You tell me when to stop when you think about how close it was to you, and I'll stop, and then you can kind of say how big you think it was compared to me.
- Okay.
I was interested to see the size of the creature that Osh encountered, so we put Bobo off at a fair distance.
Actually, Osh stopped him when he said, "Yeah, it's about that far away.
" - We're about 30 feet apart right now.
- Yeah.
Okay, Osh, I'm gonna raise this stick up, and you tell me when you think the top of this stick is at where the top of its head was.
- Okay.
I'd say about right there.
So that's about 9 foot.
We found that the creature was probably about 81/2 or 9 feet tall.
That puts it squarely in the realm of the average adult male Sasquatch, and this is significant to us because our previous investigation with Howie and those footprints also indicated an adult male Sasquatch.
It's entirely possible that Osh encountered the same creature that left those footprints for Howie.
Osh, I don't know what you saw, but I believe that you saw it and you were terrified.
I think you're incredibly brave.
Osh, you definitely saw a Sasquatch that day.
You know that.
I know that.
We all know that you saw a Sasquatch that day.
I just want to thank you again, and I was hoping you would lead us out of here before it gets dark.
Osh's encounter was very interesting to us because it was another deer-hunter incident.
As we've learned through years of studying these creatures, deer are one of their primary food sources.
That's why we've come to upper Harris River Valley.
They have a large population of deer that feed in the open muskegs.
We're surmising that if there's any place on this island where we're going to be able to get footage of a bigfoot at night out in the open, it's going to be right here.
So, if we get down in there and make sounds to lure them toward us in that area, we'd have a much more open view to be able to see them coming.
If we use those perimeter monitors that we have, the ones that use laser, we can put those around so if anything crosses the path to come toward us, it'll set off the monitors.
These are lasers that would be up on posts with sensors by which if something crossed, broke the beam, it would set off an alarm on our end.
So we're using topography, habitat, and deer concentration all to our advantage at that location.
I think that's a great plan, guys.
I think we have our spot.
All righty.
We do.
Half this island seems to be muskeg and swamp.
The deer are gonna be feeding at night in the muskegs.
Those are the wide-open swampy areas with a lot of undergrowth coming up that is of high nutritional value.
We need to focus our investigations in these muskegs if we're gonna find the Sasquatches.
We just make a big quadrilateral around this entire muskeg here.
That's a very good idea.
I'm loving it.
That's cool.
- Okay, let's set her up, then.
- Yes.
We set the laser perimeters at a height of about 6 foot.
All right, I'm 6 foot.
This way, deer could pass under, but if something 6 foot or taller like a Sasquatch passed through, it would set our laser perimeter off.
All right.
I'm good.
Check.
This one's perfect.
Check.
Mine's lined up.
Check.
Got it.
Check.
If the 'squatch is gonna come in after the deer, they're gonna trip that laser wire.
Like right here.
My alarm goes off on the GPS.
We'll know they're here.
So if the beam is triggered, the idea is we've got two thermals coming from opposite ends and try to catch whatever broke that beam on thermal and record it.
- Break up into teams.
- Excellent.
Great plan, guys.
Now that we have the laser perimeter established, all we have to do is wait for it to get dark because it's at nighttime that Sasquatches will come out to hunt deer.
The plan for the night was to make the calls of a distressed fawn.
That often brings other deer into the area, but it also brings predators.
This is where we can split up.
Matt, you and I can go head to the south.
Cliff and Ranae can go to the north.
We each got a deer call.
We'll try to call some deer and see what we get.
The second the laser beam is broken, notify us on the radio.
I will.
Very good.
Good luck.
This way, Ranae.
If we have deer grazing this muskeg, we are assuming at this point the Sasquatches will stay inside the tree line and observe their prey for a while before making a move and shepherding them to an area.
We're trying to use this to our advantage by staying inside the tree line ourselves and trying to observe these animals as they move and funnel their prey into an area.
This place looks pretty good, Matt.
We've got a pretty clear view.
Yeah, looks like we'll have good line-of-sight across muskeg.
So we should hunker down here and maybe do some deer calls.
Yeah, I've got one right here.
Okay, great.
We've got a deer.
Ranae for Bobo.
I read you, Ranae.
This is Bobo.
Over.
Cliff was able to find one deer so far on our tree line.
Hopefully, there's more in the area.
Hopefully, there's some 'squatch following him.
Hey, Bobo, since we have a hit on a deer, why don't we do a couple of bigfoot calls back and forth, see if anybody's home? I was just grabbing the radio to call you to tell you Matt was gonna try a couple right when you called.
Great minds think alike.
Matt's gonna kick one off first.
Copy.
- Hey, Matt! - Yeah? We just got a hit on perimeter four.
We came to Prince of Wales, Alaska, to determine if there are Sasquatches here on this island.
We've talked to witnesses and followed up on several leads, all of which has brought us to the upper Harris River Valley.
This is where we believe we have the best chance of filming a bigfoot here.
We found a large open muskeg field where we set up our 6-foot high laser perimeter, and something broke the beam.
- Hey, Matt! - Yeah? We just got a hit on perimeter four.
we just had a breach on perimeter four, the one towards the road.
Why don't you guys work your way back towards the road, and we'll meet over there, see what we get.
I immediately scanned the area with a thermal imager.
If it was a Sasquatch or something like that, it might have headed towards the tree line, which is also towards the road.
We are hitting the tree line that is immediately to our right as we're heading towards that section.
Sounds good.
I see them through the trees, but Unless it went back in the trees.
See? It's setting off again.
Yeah.
Did you guys ever see it? No, we didn't see anything.
Just something broke this beam twice right here.
It was pretty quick like choo, choo.
Bobo said the monitor indicated that something over 6 feet had come in and passed back out of our perimeter.
Matt and I can go up that hill.
You guys can go down the road.
We'll keep therm'ing it, see what we can get.
- Okay.
- All right.
Let's go.
Ranae and I walked up the road.
Matt and Bobo went up on the hill above the road in order to get a better vantage of it with the thermal imager.
Follow me.
We're up high enough now.
We can do some calls from here.
If there's a 'squatch working its way around here, maybe it's in a better position to hear us.
Cliff, Ranae, do you copy? Go ahead, Bobo.
We're in position to do some calls.
- You gave them a warning? - Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
That's an echo.
Cliff, did you hear that? We came to Prince of Wales Island to determine if there really are bigfoots there.
Our investigation has led us to the upper Harris River Valley where we set up a laser perimeter system around a muskeg.
Now, the guys were doing their calls when I heard a faint whoop come from the woods.
Cliff, did you hear that? I think I might have heard a whoop.
What direction? Matt, Bobo, it's Cliff.
Do you read me? Bobo.
Did you do a whoop? Negative.
None of us made a sound.
Ranae heard a very faint but distinct whoop coming from, I guess, above where you guys were before.
How far past the truck are you guys? We are just a few hundred yards north of the truck.
That would have been basically where we were, then, earlier.
We are gonna move very slowly in your direction.
Roger.
Something's happening here.
I've done this sort of thing before heard rock clags, heard vocalizations, tried to find the source.
But you know, it's the chase.
All these sort of maybes add up to a possibly.
All right, we think we see you guys up ahead.
You guys hear anything else? No.
What about you? No, not a thing.
So, let's head out.
It looks like it's starting to get light.
Yeah, it's real late or real early.
I'm not sure which.
All right, let's head it back.
We've been here for hours now, but now it's starting to get light.
And the lighter it gets, the more our chances diminish for spotting one out in the open.
We came up here to Prince of Wales, Alaska, to investigate claims of bigfoot encounters around the town of Hydaburg.
We've talked to witnesses What do you think you saw? I saw a Sasquatch.
we've examined the surrounding areas, all in the hopes of finding answers for the citizens of Hydaburg.
I do believe there are bigfoots here on this island.
And as new people venture deeper into these woods, there will be even more sightings.
However, if the new people learn to respect these creatures like the natives do, they will have nothing to fear from them.
