Haunted (2018) s01e06 Episode Script
Stolen Gravestone
A NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES My name is Haiden.
I know that I have a demon attached to me.
THE FOLLOWING IS A TRUE STORY I grew up in Washington state, in Olympia, which is Washington's capital.
When I was younger, I remember my parents were fighting all of the time.
When I was a teenager, they started going through a divorce.
I didn't have the best relationship with either parent.
I wanted to get away from, like, my parents yelling at each other.
So, me and my friends started going to the graveyard.
Like, one way for me to kind of stick it to my parents, as I started dating a guy named Tom.
He was kind of grungy, skater, bad boy, and definitely was not good for me, but I didn't really care.
I had woken up one day and I'd gotten a text from Tom.
AUSTIN HAIDEN'S EX-HUSBAND "Good morning, beautiful.
I have a surprise for you.
I can't wait to give it to you.
" - Hi.
- Hey.
- Close your eyes.
- Okay.
And give me your hands.
CLARENCE What is it? Um It's a present.
Why? Why what? Uh I don't want this.
Take it back.
Go fuck yourself.
Fuck! COURTNEY HAIDEN'S COUSIN Immediately, I I got pissed.
HOLLY PARANORMAL EXPER I was like, "Are you fucking kidding me? Why would you take a gravestone?" What he did was super disrespectful and illegal.
That was the last time I saw Tom.
I was looking at the gravestone.
I was, like, "I have to figure out where it goes.
" I had searched the graveyard.
I couldn't find it.
After that, I kept Clarence's gravestone.
Because I was like, "Well, this is my responsibility.
" Like, "I need to take care of this.
" A couple months after I got the gravestone, something happened.
I'd woken up around one in the morning and I was hungry.
That was the first time I really felt like something was in that house with me.
I had ended up mentioning the feeling of the house changing to my family and they they didn't really believe me.
They just thought it was my overactive imagination.
And then one day, me and my mom were fighting.
It almost felt like Clarence was, like, protecting me from my mom.
A couple weeks later Um You guys don't know this.
Sorry.
One night, I had gotten in a fight with my mom.
So, stupid 16-year-old me thought it'd be okay to go to downtown Olympia at night.
I was walking down an alley, when, like, a group of guys um started walking towards me.
They were talking about what they wanted to do with a girl that wanders out alone.
Like, a dark room, what they wanted to do.
Sorry.
But something really weird happened.
All of sudden, there was just this very heavy feeling.
Oh, my God.
I honestly think it was maybe Clarence throwing off some kind of energy, being like, "Do not touch this one.
" Like my guardian angel.
Honestly, I'm I'm a little shocked.
This is the very first time that I'm even hearing about this.
When I turned 18, I kind of just wanted to get out of Olympia, I realized.
So I enlisted in the Marine Corps.
It was kind of a spontaneous decision.
And one night I had woken up, but I couldn't move.
At first, I was scared.
And then I realized, I was like, "Oh, this is Clarence.
" I was actually kind of happy, I was like, "Oh, now I know what he looks like, or or what he is.
" And, um I thought it was cool to have a protector watching me.
And not seeing the danger in it.
So, a little while later, like, probably, like a week or so, I felt a very strong feeling.
I started kind of thinkin', like, "He's not really acting like what I thought, like, a ghost kind of would.
" And he was getting closer.
And I liked that.
it sounds really weird, but it was almost like, um It's hard to explain.
He had a presence, and I was really drawn to it.
Still, in my mind, "Clarence isn't something you need to be scared of.
" It was very naive.
But ultimately, I got shipped out to Missouri for military police training.
And that's when I met Austin.
I remember the first day that I saw you.
Um, I was walking into MAT Platoon and obviously, I thought you were really cute.
And so we kind of started dating.
And it was it was very sweet.
We would sneak off into, like, the tree line, and then share a quick, like, forbidden kiss.
So, we were kind of breaking the rules, which made it super sexy.
- We would tell each other everything.
Um - Yeah.
We started to become really close, and I just felt like she was my best friend.
We kind of looked at each other, we were like, "Let's get married.
" We ended up getting married a week before Before we turned 19.
And we found this little house and we were super happy, super in love, super enamored with each other.
And it was that young honeymoon phase, like, nothing could bring us down.
Clarence was the furthest thing from my mind.
I didn't think about him, I didn't, like, really want to.
He was just He was almost just completely disappeared.
[water sloshing Clarence was back.
He was standing there with me.
But I didn't wanna share that information.
Even though you were my husband and you're supposed to share pretty much every secret, Clarence was just something I didn't wanna talk about with anybody else.
And so I just pushed it away and then went to bed.
Yeah, I was kind of, like, going a little crazy.
Like, "Is there someone in my house and IÂ just can't find them?" I told Haiden, I was like, "I don't feel safe.
" I I kind of brushed it off, even though I know you were really freaked out about it.
And I didn't tell him about Clarence, 'cause I didn't think it was a big enough deal yet.
It was chilling to me, and I was I just didn't know what to say, didn't know what to do.
That was when Haiden finally, like, came across and told me about Clarence.
I was just like, "Oh, don't worry.
" Like, I didn't really think about it.
I was just like, "He's done that before.
" I was trying to kind of calm you, trying to, like, not freak you out a lot.
My reaction when she told me about about Clarence was definitely scared.
There's this thing in my house that I have no idea what it is, and it either doesn't like me, or you know, it doesn't like the relationship that Haiden and I have.
Austin kept trying to tell me, like, "We need to leave.
Like, I don't want you here.
I don't feel safe here.
" Just pleading.
But it was very strange.
I was hell-bent on not leaving.
I was thinking about throwing the knife at him.
I have no clue why.
I've never been like that.
But I honestly contemplated throwing it at him.
I didn't feel like myself at all.
I was completely out of my mind.
I think Clarence was definitely influencing my thoughts.
It felt like he wanted Austin to go away.
There's a counselor in the battalion, and they pretty much just help you with your personal life, if something's going on.
So, our counselor gave us Holly's paranormal investigation team.
I mostly did it for Austin's peace of mind.
We had, I wanna say, about ten investigators with me.
So we're we're going through the investigation.
Austin is in the bedroom by himself.
And all of a sudden, we just hear him dart out of the room.
He's like, "I just got scratched.
" ACTUAL PHOTO AUGUST 17, 2017 You were obviously really rattled.
And these were, like these were pretty deep.
At that point, I was like, "No, I'm done.
Clarence does not want me here.
I don't feel safe right now.
" Holly came right to me and she told me that what we had, she felt was demonic.
"Whatever is here is here to hurt Austin.
" I was like, "Nah.
Like, he's not demonic.
He was my protector.
" That's how it draws you in.
We get a lot of cases where, like, you invite something in, either unwillingly or willingly, and it starts oppressing you, and it starts getting attached.
And when you connected with Austin, I think that's when it started realizing that it was losing its grasp on you, and it started becoming dangerous.
At that point, Austin wanted to get the house, uh, blessed, and to not have any danger, and he wanted to protect his family.
And I was pretty much like, "Well, Clarence can stay, you can fuck off.
" Do you think it was Clarence kind of maneuvering and manipulating these feelings? It definitely felt like something had a bigger influence on me than even myself.
Something was seriously going on.
I don't really know what else to say.
Our marriage was falling apart.
And I told him, "You get out of the house and you leave.
" I was trying different avenues to to fix it.
It just didn't work.
You are easily the love of my life.
You were the love of my life.
I'm sorry.
