1 RADIANT MUSIC JIM: Ed, this is my daughter, Louise, who I think you've already met.
You played beautifully this evening.
Thank you.
She's won a three-year scholarship to the Conservatorium of Music.
Three years in Sydney? - Will you write to me? - I promise.
- I've got Ed here.
- Oh.
And he wants to marry you and take you round the world.
What do you think of that? Tell him yes.
CHEERING I can't think of anyone better qualified to lead our expedition to find the Himalayan Yeti.

It was handy having a neurosurgeon on the team, Whizz.
Charles tells me I've had a near-fatal cerebral oedema and I have to rest at lower altitude.
Don't wanna get out of bed or do anything much.
Charles says depression is perfectly normal after a stroke, but I suspect it goes much deeper than that.
" PAPER RUSTLES I hate small planes.

I don't wanna think about that.
So what if you can't go high any more? What have you got left to prove? You're not a young man any more, Ed.
You've got a wife and kids to think about.
Yeah, that I have to support by running around the mountain, searching for a creature that doesn't even exist.
You don't have to do that, OK? We will find something else.
Something will turn up.
You'll see.
Oh, thank you.
[SPEAKS LOCAL LANGUAGE.]
- Thank you.
- [SPEAKS LOCAL LANGUAGE.]
They've asked me to build a school here.
That's amazing.
God, Ed, that's quite an honour.
Couldn't just build a classroom and leave it at that.
Have to find teachers, pay wages, buy books.

It'll be a full-time job.
Well, what else are you gonna do with the rest of your life, eh? [CHUCKLES.]
I can't think of anything better.
And I'll help you.
We can do it together.
- RADIO: Pretty girl - What's this song? Oh, I like it.
- This looks like fun.
- Sorry.
Ah, yes, that's the opening of our first school in Khumjung.
- Have you seen my shirts?! - They're in the bottom of your suitcase! As they always are.
[CHUCKLES.]
Yeah, the Sherpas love dressing up and dancing.
Every year it seems like the parties get longer and longer and bigger and bigger.

Yep, more fundraising.
And then next year we'll all heading to Nepal with Ed - to help him build a hospital.
- I'm enrolled in a school there.
Gosh, you are an adventurous lot.
[LAUGHS.]
I can't imagine my Neil or my kids ever agreeing to do that.
How do you cope with all the upheaval? Well, you know, I can rely on the excellent planning of my husband to steer us through relatively unscathed.
I'll do my best.
I have to go.

If Louise was still alive, what would you two be doing, eh? I know you both; you would've had something planned.
Oh, I'm fed up with this.
Ed.
Ed! Don't be so bloody stubborn.

Indians turn to this river for many things, especially forgiveness.
SEAGULLS CAW IN DISTANCE We've been invited to a puja to bless the journey.

I love adventure, and I also quite like to succeed.
ETHEREAL MUSIC CONTINUES When I was on top of Mt Everest, I looked across and I saw a route up another mountain, and I thought to myself, "I could do that.
" Even then I was looking for other challenges.
But leaving a footprint on the top of Mt Everest was nothing compared to meeting and marrying Louise.
And having the kids, well, that was a bonus I could never have expected.
