[BELL CHIMES.]
Let's begin now.
Have you ever wondered if wishes really do come true? Well, they do.
And I, Jiminy Cricket, have seen it happen.
Here, let me tell you about it.
One starry night, my travels took me to a tiny shop owned by Geppetto the wood carver.
[BELL CHIMES.]
I sneaked under the door and saw old Geppetto working on a puppet that looked like a little boy.
Geppetto put on a last dab of paint and said, "Well, little, wooden head " [RECORD NEEDLE SCRATCHES.]
[INSECTS CHIRPING.]
You will know it is time to turn the page [GLASS SHATTERS.]
[RECORD NEEDLE SCRATCHES.]
"I have just the name for you.
I have just the name for you.

- Hey.
Hey, come on.
Come on, honey.
Please, let's go to bed? Yeah.

She wanted to be a butterfly.
So she could fly back and forth, between me and her dad.
I can't find it.
You know, I just just had it just had it right here.
Okay.
We'll find it.
Do you want a drink? Yeah.
But no, no.
No.
Come on.
We need to get some sleep.
She's gone.
- It's over.
- Stop it.
Okay? You're not clairvoyant, okay? You have many superpowers, but that's not one of them.
I can feel it.
No.
No.
If anyone around here is clairvoyant, it's me.
Remember I wouldn't go with Dad to the grocery store? And he rolled the car.
I can't live without her.
And I won't.
You know that, right? Come here, come here.
Come on.
Let's get you to bed.
[SOBBING.]
We almost had her, what happened? Amazing grace How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me [SIREN WAILS IN DISTANCE.]
Hey, Marty.
Listen, uh, can you help me out with something? Serial number on that, can you track it for me? It's a flash bang handle.
We pulled it from the crime scene.
Yeah, this won't be in our system.
Why? Well, it's not police issue.
It's military grade.
Are you sure? Yep, ours don't have handles like these, and the serial number's different.
So this isn't police.
You're positive? Yeah.
Okay, Buddy, listen, you have yourself a good day.
[DOOR OPENS.]
[WHISTLES.]
Jacob, man man? - Hey, Dad! - What you doing here? Long weekend, and my fridge is hurting.
- Oh, yeah? - Yeah.
Why didn't you ask me for some bones? Can't have you starving yourself.
I'd rather just eat outta your fridge and pocket the bones.
- Feel me? - Mm-hmm.
I feel you.
You need some money? Yeah, um, new girlfriend's sister's getting married.
And she invited me to the wedding.
Official meet-the-parents thing.
So I need a new suit.
You got a woman? [LAUGHS.]
Yeah.
Boy, we got some catching up to do.
Can you take off a couple of hours? [TELEPHONE RINGS IN DISTANCE.]
Yeah, I can take off a couple of hours.
Come on.
Let's go get you a suit.
Okay.
Why don't you get yourself one while you're at it? Tell you what You get your nerdy ass a girlfriend, and I'll get me a suit.

You know my mom's gonna call the cops on you, right? I bet she already has.
MATT: Okay, bad guy plan.
This is what we focus on.
We get this right, we're solid, okay? Okay.
All right.
Let's talk about Red.
Uh, he goes off the dial here, okay? - Mm-hmm.
- He shoots a bunch of people for the first time, why? Uh, scared of getting made? He's got a ski mask on.
Okay, uh, so he's having a bad day, um, maybe he's high, he's stressed No, it's the season finale, Mack.
He can't just be "stressed," all right? What is at the primal heart of it, for him? Is it greed? Is it fear? Is it revenge? What makes him tick? Jane had such a handle on this guy.
How come I can't get in his head? Because she based him on her ex.
Pete? Did she tell you that? No, but Secret heroin addict? Anger issues, crashed his vintage Mercedes? Red is Pete.
Of course.
My boy done grown up.
[BOTH LAUGH.]
These people love their Jesus.
I mean, church every day, twice on Sundays kind of thing.
Oh, yeah? Yeah.
Good people.
I'm just afraid they're gonna be like, "Who is this low-life? He ain't coming to the wedding, unh-unh.
" Nah, man.
You're a good kid.
Ain't your fault we didn't raise you right.
[SCOFFS.]
Are you kidding? You did an exceptional job.
I mean, have you met me? Yeah, you're all right.
Ha! You know, you didn't ask what her name is.
What is her name? Kiezauna Tiauana Nightingale.
Is that messed up, or what? Mm-hmm.
That's a name, all right.
Hey, you mind if we make a quick stop? For work? Yeah, I need to stop by the Marine depot, a few blocks away.
Since we're in the neighborhood.
Your call.
You got the wheel.
Hey, five minutes, tops.
[TRUCK HORN BLOWS.]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC PLAYS.]
[VEHICLE DOOR CLOSES, LOCKS.]
[DOOR HANDLE RATTLES.]
[SIGHS.]
WOMAN: Then we get to the restaurant and she's like, "I'm not hungry," and I'm like, "I am, bitch.
" And so, I order like $10 worth of food, and then she doesn't even reach for her wallet.
Always pretending to be broke And, oh, yeah, that party, it was Help.
Help me.
Please.
I gotta go.
Can I borrow your phone, please? Thank you.
Hey, honey, it's me.
I was hoping you'd be done with your Mystery article by now.
I'm dying to know what you're writing about, but I also don't want to bug you.
I know how stressed you get with a deadline.
Anyway, I am still here, at Jane's.
But I'm hoping that I can sneak away tonight, spend the night with you.
I miss you.
[CELLPHONE VIBRATES.]
[VIBRATING STOPS.]
[VIBRATING RESUMES.]

Yeah.
Hello? LAKE: Mom.

Why didn't you tell me? Baby, you need to tell me where you are, we want to come get you.
I can't go to sleep when you're not with me Lake.
Focus.
Who are you with? I don't know.
I thought Casey was here to take me home.
But then someone else took me.
We've been driving.
Okay, baby.
What do you see? Umm, we're at a gas station, with the number 76 on it.
And there are hills around And we're on a big, fast road with lots of cars.
Okay, what else? Um I see a dancing hamburger and a Jack in the Box sign.
Okay, the car you're in What color is it? The inside is black, and it has one of those big, fancy radios, like the one Isabel has in her car in your show.
A police radio? Yeah, like the one she talks into Okay, baby, you're in a police car.
You need to describe the person that you're with.
Hey.
Uh, I need my phone back.
Who's that? Sweetheart! - [CAR DOOR CLOSES.]
- Ohh.
[TIRES SQUEAL.]
Hey! Hey!! What.
What? What is it? There's no answer.
Dancing hamburger, a Jack in the Box - She's okay.

We can't call this in.
What? We have to.
She's in a cop car, Al.
She's with a cop.
No, but Bird didn't take her We don't know that.
What? At this point, I have no idea.
This is us now, Al.
You and me.
We have to do this on our own.
Dancing hamburger and a Jack in the Box, near a '76 on a busy street.
[BREATHING RAPIDLY.]
86 Larry Bird numbers 96 Steve Kerr jumpers True artisan, they scan the bars like it's Target brand Thank you.
Happy to help.
I like cops.
Here, serial is Charlie Tango Alpha 1957.
Your flash bang was pulled from the shelf about a year ago.
So it is military, it's from here? Oh, yeah.
Definitely.
Thank you.
You know, I was actually here at the time if I can help at all.
Here when? When it was bought? It wasn't bought, it was stolen.
I thought that's what this is about.
The flash bang was stolen? Not just that one, an entire inventory.
About a year ago, a reservist gave his pals a heads up about what we have in stock.
Kept the delivery entrance open so these bangers could raid the place.
Grenades, flash bangs, M-16s.
Kids in a candy store.
They get caught? Bet your ass.
They got a whole block before you boys caught up with them.
Ratted out their buddy in about 15 seconds.
And the inventory? Confiscated.
By you boys in blue.
This This little guy just slipped through the cracks.
Thanks.
Testify, you got a problem and you can't get it rectified You got 10 days, don't invest a dime Get so this state of mind never gentrified [MUSIC STOPS.]
I don't think you understand time.
Like, as a concept.
Well, I'm here now.
So let's go get you a suit.
'Cause Kiezauna Tiauana Nightingale deserves the best.
[LAUGHS.]
[ENGINE STARTS.]
[KNOCK ON DOOR.]
Hey.
Come on it, Pete.
- Hey.
- What's going on? [SIGHS DEEPLY.]
Well, I, uh I didn't want anybody else going through Casey's stuff.
You know, it felt wrong.
So you know about Kath.
Does everybody else know? Uh, yeah.
Pretty much.
But I'm sorry, man.
I don't even know how you're holding up, to be honest.
I bought that for her.
Three weeks in.
She wanted me to teach her how to play.
Why'd you start seeing Casey? Was it revenge? You know, maybe get back at Jane somehow.
No, I didn't want revenge.
I just wanted to get over her.
I was heartbroken.
Hmm.
Hey, why don't you have a seat? You know, we can go through Casey's stuff together.
You know? Yeah.
[KEYBOARD KEYS CLACKING.]
JANE: Oh, my God.
How many burgers does one city need? There are hundreds of these places.
And half of them have gas stations right next door.
Well, all I can figure out is 346 is an area code for Houston.
Texas? Yeah.
Um, but it was a cellphone, so it could be anything.
It could be, you know, pre-paid.
Unless they managed to get to Texas, I mean, is that even possible? I don't I don't know.
We don't have the resources to do this.
If we call Bird No, we're not calling Bird.
We can call Gus.
- Gus? - Yeah.
He's my consultant.
- [LINE RINGING.]
- I trust him.
Hey, hey, it's Gus.
Leave me a message.
[BEEP.]
I'm going to his house.
You coming? Yeah.
Is that his car? Yeah.
Gus? Gus, it's me.
Are you here? Oh, my God.
Gus?! What the hell happened here? I don't know.
I have no idea.
[KNOCK ON DOOR.]
Hi.
Oh, uh - Hi.
- Hi.
You're Jill, right? Uh, no, it's actually It's Jane, but Oh, I just haven't seen you in a while.
So I didn't even know if you two were were still a thing.
- Is he here? - No.
Actually, I was looking for him myself.
Okay, it's weird, right? So, yesterday, I asked him to give me a hand moving my dryer, 'cause it's heavy as hell and I can't do it alone.
He said he'd be right over, but he never showed up.
Well, he works a lot, it's It's not really that unusual.
Okay.
I mean, you're his You're his girlfriend.
You know him You know him better.
Oh! I know.
It's amazing, right? Men.
Just a mess.
Oh, I get it.
I have two in my house.
Both under 12, but st Uh, I'll, uh, let him know to call you? - Okay, great.
- Great.
Yes, and if there's anything I can do Yeah.
- Okay.
Thank you.
Bye.
- Okay, bye.
Girlfriend? What? He's a friend.
[SCOFFS.]
We spend the occasional night together.
I just didn't really feel like explaining that to his WASPy neighbor.
What about your WASPy sister? I just explained it to my WASPy sister.
No.
You told me that you weren't seeing anyone.
I'm not.
Can we just focus? He went out, but his car's still here? Maybe he went out drinking.
Didn't want to drive.
Okay.
Maybe.
He likes to go to a bar.
It's called Three of Clubs on Vine.
His friend owns it.
Let's try it.
JACOB: [LAUGHS.]
I like this suit, but it might be a little too fly.
Maybe we should get something looser? I still might pack on that freshman 15.
I mean, even though I don't eat nothing but Cheesies and Mr.
Noodles.
Dad? BIRD: Hey, Buddy, I need you to look into something for me.
Evidence from the crime scene.
Military ammunition.
Seized about a year ago.
I need the detective of record Yeah.
It was a bust from our department.
Flash bangs and M-16s.
That's right.
Hit me up as soon as you get something.
Thanks.
Hey, J, get out here, let me see it.
Come on, show me your flex.
Nah, I'm good.
Hey, what's going on? What, you don't want it now? I'm just gonna go home.
Make a sandwich.
You do your thing, all right? It's fine.
Hey, hey.
Come on now.
It looked good on you.
[BELL DINGS.]
J? She sounded okay.
Right? She sounded like her.
Yeah.
Remember when she thought grilled-cheese sandwiches were girl-cheese sandwiches? That meant cheese was only for girls, not for boys.
Yeah.
[SNIFFLES.]
Mom used to say I was made out of boy stuff.
Rats and snails and puppy dog tails.
Such a horrible rhyme.
How could she call herself a feminist and say that to us? Not us.
You were sugar and spice.
I was rats and snails.
I think it was snips and snails, but still.
Pretty sure it was rats.
Mom was mean.
You know, I think he said he had a cabin.
He's gonna be at the bar.
Yeah, but if he's not.
I don't remember where he said it was, but I think it's on this.
[BEEP.]
What are you laughing about? GUS: You're very intense.
You're very intense, too, my friend.
No, I like it.
Mm.
Thanks.
So, tell me what happens with these dealers, up the chain.
Well, don't forget now, these are bad guys.
I mean bad.
The cops or the dealers? [SCOFFS.]
Exactly.
There are no angels in this story.
Wait a minute.
You're not an angel? Definitely not, but, see, I'm not on the inside.
Red keeps his crew small.
Real small.
At least, according to my drinking buddy.
I want to drink with you, and your drinking buddy, and Red.
No, you don't.
- Yes, I do.
- No.
Does Red call the shots? Let's talk about something else.
Let's talk about you.
Or not.
I like not talking with you.
Then why don't we go somewhere and not talk? Let's do it.
[BEEP.]
Hmm.
He's into you.
If that were true, he'd answer my calls.
GUS: You want to see me, just ask.
You don't have to pretend it's all work.
Wait.
Uh, wait here, okay? If he's inside, I don't want to spook him.
Okay.
Um, just keep listening.
We were in his car, and he was talking about a chicken sandwich.
Hey, do you have anything to eat? I'm starving.
What do you want Station layout where they keep the cars? [INDISTINCT TALKING.]
Hey.
Hi, darling.
Um, does anyone know Gus Tremblay? Who's that? He's a regular.
Um, mid-30s, black, tattoos, one on his neck, a few on his arm I'd ask Quinn.
Hey, can I get you something? Hi.
Um, I'm looking for Gus Tremblay.
Comes here a lot.
We were actually here once together.
[SIGHS.]
That's the great thing about my job.
I get to be everyone's friend.
But I don't have to keep track of the names.
You sure you don't know him? [COUNTRY MUSIC PLAYS.]
GUS: You want a chicken sandwich, you've got to try this diner.
Now, I stop there on the way to my cabin.
JANE: Wait, you have a cabin? Yeah, I got a cabin.
I'll invite you sometime, if you don't mind sitting on the 10 for a couple of hours on a Friday, before heading north.
- I like driving.
- Yeah? Do you like rats? Because my cabin's got rats.
- [LAUGHS.]
- What? And no plumbing.
[LAUGHS.]
Close the door.
Have you heard from Gus? He's not answering my calls.
I'm worried about him.
Why? Because it's not like him not to answer his phone.
Why? Look, do you know Gus? Because if you don't, I'm gonna go.
What's so urgent you need Gus all of a sudden? I'm trying to find my daughter.
She's 8.
She's been missing for almost a week.
You're the writer.
He told me about you.
You've been stirring up trouble.
So you do know him.
We worked together for years.
You're a cop? Was.
And he's not returning my calls, either.
Not since the other day when he called me up looking to buy a gun.
Why did he buy a gun? He's a cop, he has a gun.
For protection, I guess.
An untraceable gun.
Your show has been pissing off a lot of people.
He told me he has a cabin.
Do you know where it is? What'd he tell you about me? He told me that he had a friend who owned a bar, that's pretty much it.
Did you work Narcotics with him? Wait a minute.
These are your stories, right? You were part of that lick crew? You're Gus's drinking buddy, you worked with Red.
You know, with these lick crews, it's not about the money.
- [SMOOCHES.]
- It's about the rush.
Speaking of which, I'd like to Mm, I'd like to take you home right now.
God, I wish I could.
But I'm having dinner with my sister tonight.
- Oh.
- She's bringing her husband, which I could do without.
Why? Wait a minute.
You got a hate-on for your brother-in-law? - No.
- Okay, well, you make me spill my guts all the time, woman.
Your turn, what's the deal? Nothing, all right? [SMOOCHES.]
Let's change the subject.
Maybe I was there, maybe I was part of that crew.
But I wasn't in charge.
[GULPS.]
I was the lackey.
The lackey takes the fall.
Okay, who was calling the shots? Was it Red? A cop named Red? That's what Gus would always say.
He kept saying You cross Red and you're done.
That's how it is.
The casita raid was supposed to be simple, an easy target.
But it went to hell.
And three people died.
Why? [SIGHS.]
Someone wouldn't cooperate.
I-I-I didn't see it.
And then Red tossed a flash bang.
Knocked me on my ass.
Then bullets start flying.
We We We pushed forward, we get what we came for.
But it was it was a mess.
Red shot them? - He did, right? - Look Please, c-can you tell me where he is? Lady, I haven't read your stories, huh? But if you're writing about the casita raid, I'd give it another look.
Gus is on the run because of that story.
And if you had half a brain, you'd run, too.
Back up, come on.
Talk to me about your brother-in-law.
It's nothing.
I-I like him, I-I introduced them.
Sadler W-We have a history, all right? It was years ago.
It was before I met Pete.
Wait, wait.
You were screwing your brother-in-law? It It lasted just a couple weeks, it was way before they even met [LAUGHS.]
Ooh! Stop it, okay.
I never told her.
- Why not? - I don't know.
I mean, I didn't mention it at first, when he asked her out.
- And then she like him.
- Yeah.
I didn't want to get in the way of that.
By the time they got engaged, there was just no way I could tell her.
It was so stupid! But Ali's more uptight about that than I am - Wait.
- You know, stuff like that.
You wouldn't care if she slept with your ex? Oh, man, if only someone would sleep with my e Al? Hey, what's going on? Had to stretch my legs.
Gus wasn't there, but I met a guy named Quinn.
He was a member of the lick crew.
What? I'll explain it in the car.
Any Any luck on the cabin? What's wrong? Nothing.
I listened to the tape.
So, yeah, I know where it is.
Oh, great.
That's amazing.
Yeah.
I'll drive us there.
It's gonna take, um, probably an hour, which is good, so you can just nap, and, uh, I'll get us there.
Oh, great.
Thanks.
[CAR DOOR CLOSES.]
[RADIO CHATTER.]
Buddy, you check in on that evidence? Yeah.
All of it's logged.
But some of it's missing.
A flash bang and a couple of guns.
Who was running point? The arresting officer was Quinn O'Farrell.
He's retired, but he used to be with Narcotics.
Can you get me his file? [PHONE RECEIVER CLICKS.]
Quinn O'Farrell.
How come I don't know this guy? We here? Hey, where are we? Al? What's going on? We're wasting time, trying to run this on our own.
Frick and Frack, Jane.
We're not cops.
We have to take a leap, we have to trust someone.
Look, Al Wait.
[KNOCK ON DOOR.]
No.
I'm not wasting hours driving up north, wondering around in the middle of the desert, looking for some cabin.
We don't even know if he's there.
Hey.
Hi.
Um, is this the right address for John Bird? Uh, yes.
PETE: I recognize her handwriting.
Yeah, that's, uh You know, Casey wanted to be a writer.
And she had talent.
Who's Red? Our bad guy.
Based on me? No.
No, he's somebody we made up.
- Yeah, based on me.
- No, no.
Come on.
Jane's always cannibalizing her life.
It's never just some character.
The "secret heroin addict, fights with his ex-wife.
" Nice.
God help you, Matt, if I find a card up there that says "Isabel's daughter taken.
" Wait, did she ask you to bring me in here? Is that what you're doing? Are you studying me? What? No.
No, no.
God, no.
No.
Pete, I brought you in here because I was worried about you.
Besides, I don't work for Jane anymore.
What do you mean? Well, Jane came in here, had a full-blown meltdown, she came in here like a mad woman, spouting conspiracy theories.
None of it made sense, so they gave me the show.
What kind of conspiracy theories? Uh, cops don't want her to write the show, cops don't want her to find Lake.
She's blaming everything on the police, and none of it makes - It's It's crazy.
- Not that crazy.
When Jane was doing her San Diego documentary, we were getting death threats.
She didn't even care, she just kept going.
She was doing it then.
She's doing it now.
You people are vultures.
Dad should be home any minute now.
Maybe.
Or maybe not.
It just kind of depends on his work.
Our whole lives depend on his work.
That's funny, my sister's like that.
I'm right here.
Yeah, well, it's true.
Your work dictates the schedule.
Of course it does.
That's ridiculous.
Schedules dictate the schedule.
What else is supposed to dictate schedules? Dinner.
Your kid coming to visit? My kid dictates the schedule as much as my work does, and you know it.
What? I can call my dad again.
No, it's fine.
Please don't.
Thanks.
It's really better if we speak to him in person, if it's cool with you if we could just wait here? Yeah, I'm cool.
Sit down, stretch out.
I can play a few bars or cook something Thank you.
That's That's all right.
J? - Hey.
- How's everyone doing? Detective [SIGHS.]
I'm sorry, I just have a couple of hypothetical questions to ask you.
Hypothetical? She's lying.
Al Lake called us.
From a Houston phone number.
And we don't know how to trace it, and we can't report it because she said there was a police radio in that car.
So we need you.
We need your help, but you cannot report it.
So So, then we tried to narrow down the gas stations, and we didn't get anywhere with that.
Here's the phone number, but it's not working anymore.
Well, you know there's a protocol.
I'm gonna have to call this in.
No.
Please.
Look, my daughter knows what a police radio looks like.
If she said she saw it, she didn't make it up.
Trust me.
Every minute we don't trace this phone call, it's gonna be harder to find it.
Now, is that what you want? Coffee's ready if anybody wants any.
Well, trace it then.
But unofficially? Listen, I was there, and I heard it.
Lake said there was a police radio in that car.
Look, I-I met up with an ex-Narcotics guy named Quinn.
He told me I was on to something.
He told me to run.
- Quinn who? - I don't know.
Quinn O'Farrell.
[SIGHS.]
All right, look, I-I got a friend that works in Telecom, she can trace the call.
But if we get a hit, we're gonna need backup.
You're gonna have to live with us as backup.
I don't know how much he can rely on you as backup.
What is your problem? I'm gonna get some of that coffee.
Hey, Kate.
Yeah, it's me, John.
How you doing? No, I wish.
Yeah, maybe I'll catch you on the other side of this case.
Look, uh, can I ask you a favor? Yeah, I need you to look up a number.
Hey, can I talk to you for a second? Sure.
What's up? - Outside.
- Yeah.
346-555-0143.
Yeah.
Appreciate it.
What the hell is going on with you? You keep taking cheap shots at me, and I really don't need it right now Right.
Well, I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
What? W-What is it? I just I want to find Lake right now.
And when we do that, you and I need to talk.
No.
L-Let's talk now.
Otherwise, you're gonna keep leaking all over the place.
What's going on? I didn't really like listening to your interview with Gus.
Gus? That's what this is about? Look, I don't have to clear it with you when I want to sleep with someone, okay? What if it's my husband? I heard your little confessional.
"That's so stupid! Yeah, but, you know, Ali's more uptight about stuff like that.
" Al, please You just think I'm an idiot.
No! No, of course not.
Look, it was such a long time ago, it was way before you met him There's no reason to lie about it! You just You lie because you like to.
It just keeps everything on your terms.
Little characters in the Jane Show.
I was trying to protect you, all right? - Thanks.
- That worked out real well.
Hey, you hungry? You had lunch? - Nah.
- Hey, try to tune that out.
It's kind of complicated for them right now.
Oh, they're just talking out their issues.
I kind of envy them.
What's that supposed to mean? Oh, we just sweep everything under the rug, right? Pretend it's all cool.
Like we're doing right now.
You got something you want to say, what's on your mind? - Go for it.
- [SIGHS.]
You know you never once picked me up from school? Ever.
That's not true.
Name one time.
Look, your mother liked doing that, and you were making your own way home from school since you were 11.
You didn't even come see me play basketball.
Come on.
Really? You asked, all right? I'm happy to just sweep this under the rug again.
[CELLPHONE RINGS.]
Take it.
Kate? Yeah.
Okay.
Pre-paid.
Got a last location? Last time dialed? Oh, great.
Listen, I owe you big time, woman.
Thanks.
Look, can we pick this up later? Dad, it's fine.
Seriously, I-I'm good.
No, listen, I want to, all right? Look, I'll take a couple of days off once I wrap this up.
I'll drive up north, five hours, and I'll pick your ass up after school, all right? All right.
If I had told you about it, you would've stopped dating him, a-and you guys were perfect together.
Well, fine, but it would've been my decision to make! You're not the puppet-master.
All right? Hey, we got to go.
Good.
Go.
I'll be at home.
No.
Al, please.
Come on.
Please, just come with me.
You know what? You know the reason why you can't trust anyone? It's because no one can trust you.
[CAR DOOR CLOSES.]
[ENGINE STARTS.]
Hey, Jane.
Let's go.
It's hard not to be on the edge in situations like this.
People say things they don't mean.
I see it all the time.
You okay? Yeah.
You mind? No.
[MUSIC PLAYS ON RADIO.]
You ever get the feeling we're alike? You and me? Workaholics.
Smart-asses.
Lonely.
I'm not lonely.
Yeah, you are.
You're just too damn busy to notice.
[TRUCK HORN BLOWS.]
I'm gonna go see if anyone saw anything.
LAKE: We're at a gas station with the number 76 on it.
And a Jack in the Box sign.
This is it.
She was here.
I know it.
Dave agreed to cue up his CCTV footage from this morning.
This is the girl's mother.
I'm sorry, my camera's not the best.
That's all right, man, we appreciate you taking the time.
I don't see her.
Hey, can you stop there? She could be in any one of those cars.
Yeah, but if Dave here lets us copy his hard drive, I'm gonna get someone to take a closer look at this.
You never know, right? She was here.
She was right here.
Maybe.
But we still need to talk to Quinn O'Farrell.
Why? Because I'm starting to believe your story.
Look, you've been rattling someone's cage, maybe this Red guy.
But if he's the one who took your daughter, then maybe Quinn can tell us who he is.
Okay.
All the leaves are brown And the sky is grey I've been for a walk Hey, don't touch that.

- You can't use any of this.
- No, no, no! - I won't, I promise.
- You can't us You tell me the truth, and I'll make it fiction, okay? I used every detail The casita, the flash bang, the dirty cop named Red, all of it.
The more you talk, the worse it gets.
Just shut it down.
JANE: Cut! MATT: You just told our network that your daughter's missing because of a TV show.
Do you know how crazy that sounds? [SCOFFS.]
You want to hear crazy? Casey kidnapped Lake.
By the time the police got there, Casey was dead.
GOMEZ: I've got my best guys on this, Christopher, it's under control.
Kidnapping turned double homicide doesn't sound under control.
What is it? It's from a flash bang.
Our niece She went missing.
Someone needs to get this story out.
That's what I keep saying.
Then write it.
- Let's get you some sleep.
- I'm not gonna sleep.
I'm not gonna get dressed, take a shower, eat breakfast.
I'm not gonna be normal.
Take me home.
S01E06 Day 6: Down Day [RECORD PLAYER CRACKLING.]
JIMINY CRICKET: This is the story of Pinocchio.
You can read along with me in your book.
You will know it is time to turn the page when you the chimes ring like this.
I have just the name for you.
I have just the name for you.
I have just the name for you.
- Hey.
- Hey.
Hey, come on.
Come on, honey.
Please, let's go to bed? Yeah.
She drew me a picture.
- [CHUCKLES.]
- Ain't that right, Jacob? Yeah.
Just tell me where we're going.
Mm.
Yeah.
Hello? LAKE: Mom.
[GASPS.]
