the passion and the institution.
But I think more and more,
the student athlete is becoming
the focal point
and the center of the story.
[announcer] The greatest team to have
never won a national title is no longer.
They will get it.
[announcer] This is a moment
they are going to remember
for the rest of their lives,
and it is so well-deserved.
[Olivia] I'm a national champion.
I remember saying that if we won
that I wanted to be done, but
winning is addicting, let me tell ya.
Alright, here we go. I'm here to say
I'm not Dunne yet.
[interviewer] Does NIL play a part
in your decision to stay?
I mean, brands do like
that I'm a student athleteI won't lie.
This smile is gonna sell these shirts.
Now people come to college like
let me stay, stack up my chips, like,
you know what I'm saying?
Student athletes, they deserve more.
I think NIL is the beginning of it.
It's a money game, but
you also have to love the game as well.
[Roger Goodell] With the second pick
in the 2024 NFL draft,
the Washington Commanders select
Jayden Daniels.
[cheers and applause]
[Jayden] I think you deserve
all the money that you need,
but if you let it become a distraction,
that's your main focus,
then you're just taking away
from what you came here for.
[cheers and applause]
[announcer] This was not someone who just
jumped on the scene in college football.
He earned his way. He got better.
He changed schools.
And now he's the second pick in the draft.
Let's have a good one.
Realistically,
I don't see the NBA in my future.
Yes, sir, yes, sir.
If I didn't make another dime
from any NIL,
but like the content that I made
helped people,
like, I'm good.
That's the most important thing for me.
But the G-wagon is nice, though.
One, two, three.
Nice.
[Reese] I think at some point
it's gonna be all about the money.
But I think the women's side
is super helpful for a lot of us.
Hey, Vogue, it's Angel Reese here,
and I am on set today for
a huge announcement with the Bayou Barbie.
Today we're going to be announcing
that I'll be entering the WNBA draft.
Good morning.
This is the moment you want to be in.
Only 144 people get to play in the WNBA.
[announcer] The Chicago Sky Select
Angel Reese.
[cheers and applause]
[announcer] As we gather here tonight,
it's clear that women's sports
are more than a moment.
[reporter] Quick developing story.
In an historic first, the NCAA
and nation's Power Five conferences
have reached a deal to pay their athletes.
[reporter 2] $2.8 billion settlement
that will allow
some players to be paid
directly by their schools
for playing sports.
Student athletes
kind of has a funny ring to it now.
[Dellenger] The House settlement
is the most significant moment
in the history of college athletics.
Direct pay to athletes is on its way.
The fear is that in the future
the relationship will be only about money.
[Gordon] It is changing quickly.
I just saw the other day
where a basketball team
voted to unionize, right?
So you have 50 states
and different things.
I hope and pray that doesn't change
the fabric of college athletics
in relationship to how the fan supports it
and is involved with it.
[Worsham] The system was skewed one way
unfavorably toward student athletes.
But if we go so hard the other way
and it's a purely financial decision,
we're going to lose so much connection,
so many memories
that I think are vital to American sport.
[Jacobs] A year or two ago,
things were so chaotic
because NIL was chaotic.
Now we're looking at the chaos
of a revenue share.
This is at another level.
History is going to change
in the next year.
But the love of the game
and the money game,
I do believe they can coexist.
I'm gonna leave my Stitch here.
This feels like a dream.
Hold on, it's gonna be the it's soon.
Oh, come on.
Oh, my God!
