My mom--she's without a doubt The best mom that anybody could ask for.
My mom grew up in southern california And was married at the age of 21.
She graduated from college And nt on to become a dental hygienist.
She raised all three of us kids And practically adopted our friend josh When his mother passed away.
She has always put others first in her life.
She really did a great job of making those things That are supposed to be special to you as a child When I was 12, we got an opportunity To go spend some time in honduras, And my mom, being a dental hygienist, Got to go down and, you know, work with kids That had never had a chance to go to a dentist.
(k.
C.
) she'll go to a soup kitchen, She'll go to a homeless shelter because in her mind, There's always somebody struggling worse than her.
When I was in sixth grade, I found out that my mom had ovarian cancer.
And when my mom eventually died a few months later, Carole offered to bring me into their home.
It may sound extraordinary, but for my mom, It was just second nature.
She always went out of her way To make me feel like one of the family.
18 months ago, my parents split up, Um, after 32 years of being together.
To add insult to injury, She loses her job within a few days.
That was absolutely devastating to her.
Her lease was coming up.
She really had no place to go.
She was just She was broken.
My mom is breaking down saying "what do I do?" almost.
And I have to look at my mom and pretend I know the answer, And I don't.
I would have hoped that things would have gotten better, But they didn't.
They got worse.
(taylor) my mom found out she had a heart condition Known as cardiomyopathy (k.
C.
) the sadness and the depression And the--and the trauma that she felt emotionally Has noliterally broken her heart.
Congestive heart failure Is actually the most expensive disease in the country.
Carole--unfortunately, her financial situation Is pretty desperate.
If carole had access to appropriate resources, We could improve her symptoms dramatically And--and literally give carole her life back.
My mom's lost her husband, She lost her job, She had to leave her house, And now she's dealing with a heart problem That she can't treat because she doesn't have the money.
She's struggling.
But that is why I'm here.
Because, mom, even though you may not think so, I know that you deserve it.
(applause) Don't mind me.
I don't even have to ask how special this woman is to you.
I can--I can see it.
Yore not the only one that wants this to happen.
Family and friends, they want this to happen as well.
Go, k.
C.
! Are you ready to do this? I'm pumped.
I'm set.
Let's do it.
Let's play "you deserve it.
" (cheers) All right, k.
C.
, Here's how the game works-- five rounds, From $10,000 to $1,000.
To win a round, you have to solve A who, what, or where question.
There are ten clues to help you along the way.
The first clue is always free, But the rest you're gonna have to pay for.
The fewer clues you use, The more money that you can win.
Are you ready? I'm set.
Let's win some money.
Let's reveal the first category (ding) who.
All right.
This is a person or persons, Real or fictional.
Okay.
As I said, first clue is always gonna be free for you Mm-hmm.
'cause I'm a giving guy And I want your mom to win this money.
Let's take a look at the first clue.
(ding) 2002 "sexiest man alive.
" I feel like I should know it right now.
I'm disappointed that I don't.
Well, you're probably thinking he's standing in front of you, But That--you were 2001.
You were 2001, I think.
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay.
So the--the first thing I'm thinking here Is I'm thinking celebrity.
Somebody along the lines of george clooney.
Somebody along the lines of brad pitt.
Or johnny depp.
Probably need another clue to narrow this down.
I do.
Well, like I said, First one's on me.
The rest, you're gonna have to pay for.
How much--that depends on how lucky you are.
Okay.
Your $10,000, we're gonna break down into 9 amounts.
Okay.
From $100 all the way up To $3,000.
Okay.
These amounts are gonna be randomly hidden Behind these 9 numbers right over here.
Okay.
The number you pick, the amount behind it, That's how much you'll have to pay for the next clue.
So pick a number with a low amount behind it.
I'm gonna start with number 2.
Number 2.
Come on, low number.
Come on, low number! (ding) $2,500.
That's all right.
$2,500.
(laughs) it's not the best start.
That's--well, $7,500 still on the board.
Still there.
Still there.
All right? Okay.
Let's see what $2,500 buys you in the clue department.
Hopefully a good one.
(ding) Political activist.
Political activist--I'm trying to think about people That are really outspoken, That are celebrities that are really involved with things.
Um, I know george clooney is pretty involved.
Um, brad pitt was on my mind.
But I'm not sure if I would call him, necessarily, A political activist.
I would--I--honestly, I think I'm gonna need One morelue.
Maybe a couple more, but just one for now.
Okay, well One for now.
Yeah, let's take it--let's take it one step at a time.
All right (laughs) you know how iworks now.
I'm going to pick number 1.
Number 1.
Low number.
All right.
Low number! (audience chanting) low! Low! Low! (ding) $500.
There you go.
All right! All right! That works.
That works.
That's okay.
That's fantastic.
Yeah, that works.
$7,000 on the board.
Let's take a look at the clue (ding) Married an actress.
(laughter) I mean, they're really narrowing it down for me, huh? (laughs) Okay.
I'm going to have to buy one more clu Okay.
Let's pick one.
Number 7.
T's stay away from the $3,000.
(ding) $400! All right.
All right.
$400.
Let's see what it buys you.
Here's your next clue (ding) poker.
Before this clue even came up, I kind of had a-a thought, and I thought ben affleck-- I know that ben affleck is married to jennifer garner.
But poker would take me to "rounders," Which is one of my favorite movies, Where matt damon is the lead in that.
(sighs) I mean, I-I honestly, in my mind right now, I'm juggling between ben affleck, And I'm juggling matt damon.
Okay.
Anben affleck--I think 2002 Was around, like, "armageddon" time, You know, when ben affleck was--was pretty popular, So I can see him being sexiest man alive.
But matt damon's sexy, too.
(laughter) Is there one that stands out more than the other? Honestly, I Because at any point, k.
C.
, you can lock in an answer.
If you give me the correct answer, $6,600 is yours-- More importantly, it's your mom's-- And you move on to the next level.
But if you give me an incorrect answer, Not only do you not earn any money in this round, But you have to repeat this level, Giving up your chance to play for the $100,000, Because we play five rounds and five rounds only.
So what do you think? Let's take another clue.
I'm going to pick number 9.
All right.
Two big amounts we want to avoid-- $2,000 and $3,000.
Come on, low number.
(ding) yeah! $100.
Whoo! Yes! Before I even get the clue, I'm thinking it's ben affleck.
Okay.
'cause I know ben affleck likes poker.
Here's the clue (ding) Oscar-winning screenplay.
This is unbelievable.
Why? Matt damon and ben affleck are gonna write A screenplay together, And that's gonna be my next clue? Come on.
Chris, that's--that's my mom's money.
That's not mine.
Changes this a little bit, doesn't it? It does.
It--completely.
Completely.
And also-- if this was just you up here gambling It'd be a totally different ball game.
Right.
Even though I think it's ben affleck, I'm going to take one more.
Okay.
All right.
5 was my number growing up in sports.
(laughs) so I'm picking number 5.
Okay.
Anything but the $3,000.
Come on.
(ding) yeah! That's right! $300.
All right! Here's the next clue (ding) 2 daughters.
Did that help? I don't know about their children.
Ugh.
But--'cause--'cause, I mean, if you think about it, I'm gonna go through each clue here-- Oscar-winning screenplay-- Matt damon and ben affleck wrote "good will hunting," Which is my favorite movie.
Okay.
Poker--matt damon was in a movie about poker, Ben affleck likes to play poker.
Okay.
Married an actress--that's kind of one that I'm banking on, Because jennifer garner's a pretty well-known actress.
All right.
Political activist-- Ben affleck's way more outspoken than matt damon is, I feel, As far as politics.
Okay.
And 2002 "sexiest man alive," I feel like, would have gone to ben affleck More so than matt damon at that time.
Three clues ago, we were at this same point.
Are you willing to lock that answer in now? (sighs) $6,200.
Great start.
This is terrifying.
I'm going to lock it in With ben affleck.
Lock it in.
Oh, my god.
You thought you knew it three clues ago, He thinks he knows it now.
For $6,200 and to move on to the next level, Is it ben affleck? Yeah! (laughs) Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo! Well done.
Good start.
$6,200.
Good start.
There were four more clues.
Let's take a look.
(ding) ben affleck was the answer.
$6,200.
Yes! That's yours.
Yes! K.
C.
Here is looking to make a big difference In his mom's life.
Remember, She has no idea this is happening.

(cheers and applause) (chimes tinkle) Welcome back to "you deserve it.
" K.
C.
Here has already won $6,200 for you mom, carole.
That's gotta already feel good.
It feels amazing.
It's a good start, but it is just a start.
Remember-- this is the st part-- She has no idea any of this is going on right now.
Before we continue, let's go to my partner brooke burns, Who's at our hidden camera location To explain what's going on over there.
Brooke Thanks, chris.
We're here outside of carole's Favorite restaurant.
Now she's inside having dinner, Thinking that she's here for a girl's night out.
Meanwhile, I'm here with her friends and family members And we are about to give her The biggest surprise of her life.
Good luck! Keep winning! That's great.
We'll check back in with you In just a little bit.

(ding) What.
Okay.
An object.
A thing.
What.
Again, first clue-- it's always on me.
Here we go.
(ding) seen in summer.
Seen in summer.
All right.
That's--it's rather vague.
I'm gonna need another clue.
Definitely need a clue.
$25,000 broken up into 9 amounts right here, From $100--and you see they get a little more expensive-- Up to $10,000.
So when you're ready, pick a number.
I am going to start with number 4.
Number 4.
Come on, low number.
Come on.
(ding) Oh! $5,000.
Aah.
Not the bottom.
It's all right.
It's fine.
It's okay.
It's all right.
Here's the clue (ding) Most people have one.
Like, my first thought was belly button.
(laughs) But then again, that would be all people have one.
So that's not most people.
So I definitely need another clue.
(laughs) Let's take a look at the numbers.
A low amount-- where is it? Behind number 8.
(ding) Yes! $100! Yes! There we go.
$19,900 on the board.
Here's the clue (ding) Useless.
Useless--honestly, I'm still on belly button.
(laughter) I--honestly, it could-- I might be onto something.
Most pple have one, So a lot of people have something that is useless.
I don't have a direction yet, so I'm gonna need another clue.
Well, stay away from that $10,000.
Pick a number.
I'm going to pick number 6.
Number 6.
No $10,000.
No $10,000.
No $10,000.
(ding) $200.

(woman) another one! (woman) yeah! $19,700.
Tremendous amount of money If you can solve it with this clue right here (ding) (laughter) Stop it! I said "belly button" after the second Seems to fit the clues, But you have a lot of clues left.
Yeah.
That's insurance.
I'm not at all in a position Where I wanna be guessing something.
Okay.
So I'm gonna have to buy one more clue.
Okay.
Take a look at the numbers.
Stay away from that big amount.
Number 2.
Number 2.
Number 2.
Come on.
Something--even-- I'll take $1,000, even.
(ding) I said it! I said it! $1,000.
I said it.
Let's take a look at the clue (ding) Adam? Question mark.
I-I--my mind just goes straight to adam and eve.
Seen in summer--I thought warm, I thought beach.
Most people have one.
And useless-- I feel like went together-- I'm like why would a lot of people Have something that's useless.
Okay.
That doesn't make a ton of sense to me.
And at that point, I said "belly button.
" The next clue is in or out, Meaning an innie belly button or an outie belly button.
(laughter) and now "adam?" And now "adam?" Honestly, I would have guessed belly button after in or out Okay.
If it said everybody had one.
But it says most people have one, And I don't know if, like, america's out there Watching me, going, "dude, come on! You know about those people that don't have belly buttons.
" But I don't.
(laughter) Gosh, this is a huge risk, But I cannot take a guess at this point.

C.
Two small amounts, two amounts you wanna stay away from.

None of those things applied.
Sound like you're not any closer.
I'm not, and I feel like I Hard to explain the pressure up here, isn't it? It's inexplicable, yeah.
They probably all know it.
I'm gonna have to take another clue.
All right.
$200, $15,000, or $25,000.
Three numbers.
One amount Doesn't hurt you at all.
Two? Well What are you feeling? Number 6.

So it's a tool.
36 black.
I-I don't-- That clue, I feel like it should really help me, And it's not.
Your sister-in-law's dying over here.
(laughs) that's okay.

Mm-hmm.
Deep breaths.
Yeah.
Okay? I mean, either clue (exhales deeply) Either clue leaves you with a good amount of money.
Okay? Yeah.
So let's look at the board over here.
Number 4, number 7.
Oh, my gosh.
Do I have to buy a clue No.
You haven't bought a clue.
What are you thinking? I just thought of a piano, But I don't think that's right.
I mean, I thought 36 black keys.
I'm thinking "chopsticks" is a song you play on the piano.
A piano could be-- possib.
But I don't know.
Either the piano bar.
It could be at the bar.
I don't know if most pianos are asian.
And-- how confident are you In piano? 70%.
I'm 70% confident that it's piano.
It just, like, came to me, and I was like, "36 black-- What could that possibly mean?" There's 36 black keys on a piano.
I'm--that's a guess.
I mean--everybody could be behind me like, "dude! Have you ever seen a piano?" K.
C.
, do you take the chance of adding $40,000 To your total winnings for your mom By locking in th piano, Or do you buy another clue For $15,000 for $25,000? This is a huge gamble, With especially two huge amounts on the board.
I'm assuming that there's 36 black keys.
I don't--now that I'm thinking it, I don't think there are 36 black keys.
Maybe one more clue Will absolutely crystallize this for you.
This is an awful feeling.
Honestly, if it's not piano, Another clue, I don't think's gonna help me.
Piano.
(cheering) (debra) it is it.
It is it.
It is.
(women laugh) You all right? I'm--I'm--I'm gonna be okay.

And every dollar he wins is going to her.
Why? Because, carole, you deserve it! (cheers and applause) (chimes nkle) Thank you.
Thank you very much.
Hello, everybody.
I'm chris harrison And welcome to "you deserve it"-- The show that believes it's better to give Than to receive.
What makes this game different Is the player is trying to win asuch money as possible For someone else.
We all know that sometimes in life, Things don't go as planned.
This is especially true for carole, Who's completely unaware what's going on right now.
Carole could really use a helping hand, And she's about to get one.
Let's find out more about her.
(projector whirring) My name is k.
C.
Holiday.
And that's me and my mom carole 21 years ago.
So far, $6,200 you've already won her.
Hopefully, there's a lot more where that came from.
We'll be right back.
Let's play round 2.
$25,000.
Let's take a look at the next category.
Yes! Yes! There you go.
That's great.
Let's take another clue.
All right.
Pick a number.
I'm going to choose Number.
Number 1.
Stay away from those big amounts-- $7,500 and $10,000.
Yes! Yes! Yeah! Whoo-hoo! Yes! $500.
Here's the clue (ding) Some are pierced.
Oh, my goodness! (laughter) So ears--you use those.
Nose--you use that.
Eyebrow--stop.
