-[Paige] Yes. Let's do it.
We met the old-fashioned way on MySpace.
[laughing]
Love it. Love it.
[Lorigan] We have Christian, he's six,
and Sydney just turned 18.
I come from a very creative family.
My mom's an artist,
I'm a dancer since three years old,
and my dad is a fashion designer.
I like to draw and play video games.
I work for Habitat for Humanity.
And so I'm very
passionate about that work,
but I also have a small business
where I teach art classes.
We are first-time homeowners.
It was a big thing for us.
[Vernicia]
When I was younger, it wasn't always easy.
My mom moved around a lot,
and we actually were homeless for a while.
So there was a lot of instability.
Same background,
moved around a lot when I was young.
And a dream of mine
was raising a family in one spot.
[Vernicia] So, really wanted
a safe place for our kids.
But we did not realize
how much work it would be.
[Lorigan] We thought
we found the American dream.
Then when we got here,
we were like, "Hmm. Okay."
-Right.
-"We're not really sure where to start."
The home is ugh, kind of outdated.
I'm trying to be nice about it,
but it really has to be redone.
[Lorigan] The house was built in 1988,
and it still has resemblance
of that late '80s and early '90s in here.
Okay, you know our stove
Hold on, let me turn the fan on.
Lots of crazy things

and we want to enjoy it in a nice space.
But any possible space

I would like to have my dining room back.
[Vernicia] Then we
have this sunken living room.
This room is extremely dark,
and there aren't a lot of windows.
So it's hard to do anything functional.
They're always looking out for others,
and they so deserve to walk into this home
and feel the love
that they give everyone else.
-The family, love, the house, not so much.
-[Nick laughs]
I love the house,
it just needs to be updated.
Yeah, so right now
you don't love the house.
-And on that note
-Let's get started.
[Nick] All right, so number one,
we are painting this house dark green,
which is more bold in color.
We just want it
to have a little bit more flair.
Nice.
[Nick] One thing you'll also notice
is on the right side,
we have a giant tree in front of
what I believe is the front door.
We're gonna trim the tree,
but we need to define an entryway.
So as we move over,
we are now going to make
this middle area of the house
the front entrance.
I think this pergola makes a fantastic
first impression when you first walk in.
All right, let's dip into the kitchen.
-[Paige] Oh!
-[Adair] The kitchen.
This is where I think
we do some real damage.
All-new cabinets, all-new countertops,

[Erik] Brilliant, love it.
Last, but certainly not least.
-Check this out. Paige, take it away.
-[Nick and Adair exclaim]
-[Paige] Okay, so
-Wait, where'd those windows come from?
This family coins themselves
as a creative family,
and that's exactly what my family is.
My dad is a photographer,
my mom is a painter,
and growing up,
my sister and I were surrounded
by my dad's art as well as my mom's art
in our entire home.
Since they don't use this
as their living room space,
it would be really fun to transform that
into the special project,
which is going to be an art studio.
So we're going to create a space
that art can live within this house
and not take over the rest of the house.
Paige, I love this! Wow!
[Erik] I love this idea.
[Paige] My biggest concern
is these windows.
They're paramount for the art studio.
We wanted to create light,
so that everything within the art studio
is visible.
But we're not only going to have to cut
huge holes in the side of this house,
but we also have to lift those windows.

This is the thing
I'm worried about, y'all.
The windows in the art room.
The glass needs to start going in
at 10:30, but before we can even do that,
we got a lot of stuff in here
we gotta move out.
Got a lot of demo to do.
Any time we're doing that demo,
we know there's a chance
there's something under the floor,
in the walls that we don't like.
-Yep.
-We gotta take those walls out,
we've gotta put new headers in,
we've gotta reframe those windows out.
So hopefully this doesn't get pushed back.
But then once we
actually start to install that,
like, that could cause real issues.
And it's not gonna delay anything,

[Erik] So, here's the situation.
When we were in the warehouse,
Paige and I were testing

We had to get this glass up on the

And we're modernizing the kitchen.
All-new appliances, stainless steel.

That's what I kinda
wanted to talk to you about.

I spent a lot of time

That, next to this aubergine,
really complements really well.
It's gonna be gorgeous.
-Sir, we have so much more to do.
-[Nick] All right.
Yeah, y'all go work.
I'm gonna take a second

Nah, I don't know, man.
[intense music playing]
[Nick] I want as much light
coming into that art studio as possible.

Let's go. There we go. Beautiful.
You gonna work on that second one?

Oh, like a glove!
So with these frames right now,
what we're doing
is essentially setting in the sill plate,
and then that's gonna drain any water that
gets into the frame out to the outside.
Okay, Erik, I see lighting fixtures,
but I do not see any windows!
[Erik] So, here's the situation.
When we were in the warehouse,
Paige and I were testing
different ways to get this glass in
as efficiently as possible.
We had to get this glass up on the
scaffolding and then set in to place.
Takes a lot of manpower
and takes extra time.
We've gotta practice getting
these glass panels into the house.
And we need to check
how long it's gonna take,
we need to check how much manpower
we actually need to get this done.
-And we need to do it safely.
-Yes.
So we've got a single pane here.
We're gonna attempt to install this
in the faux wall that I've built there.
Y'all are gonna
build the scaffold and the ramp.
In the meantime, I'm gonna be on
the inside framing out the window itself.

-[Erik whistles]
-[Paige] Hey.
-[Adair] Isn't it gorgeous?
It is beautiful, but lifting this thing
up that ramp, three grown men.
That thing is not light.
And the actual pane we have
on the day of is twice as heavy.
On top of that, that took way too long.
And that's for one window,
we've got five to install on the day.
We don't have five hours to give to this,
and we don't have ten people
for five hours to give to this.
[Paige] That's what I was
just telling Adair.
We need those guys other places
throughout the house and it's not
it's not smart task management.
So we found these folks who have a robot
that's actually gonna pick the glass up
for us and bring it up into the frame.
It's gonna take two guys to install this,
versus say eight to ten.
-Yeah.
-And it's gonna take half the time.
Because we don't
have to set up scaffolding,
we don't have to make sure
that folks are inside doing the same job.
-Like, we've got all of this.
