My Life with the Walter Boys (2023) s01e07 Episode Script
Small Town Rumors
[tender music playing]
[rooster crows]
[George] Morning.
- Morning.
- [George] You okay?
- I didn't sleep well last night.
- Oh no.
- I was dead to the world.
- I know.
- And I didn't want to wake you.
- Wake me for what?
- You need me? Something happen?
- Alex punched Cole last night.
Alex did?
Like, a real punch or just
Like, right in the
What the hell are they fighting about?
Well, the good news is
she's a really nice girl.
Ah.
Right.
And the not-so-good news?
She lives here.
- It's Jackie?
- [Katherine] Yeah.
Apparently, she and Alex
have been sort of dating.
- Well, since when?
- [Katherine] Since Thanksgiving.
And Cole does not seem happy about it.
Okay. Well
- Well, that means we're gonna have to
- Set some serious ground rules.
Yeah. Yeah.
And I think I'm gonna go find
Benny's baby cam
and bring it out of retirement.
Honey, do you think
we should've seen this coming?
What? That we should've thought about
bringing a teenage girl into a house
full of raging hormones?
- Yeah.
- Probably.
We had raging hormones once.
Some of us still do.
[both chuckle]
Hey, we did the best we could.
Now we just have to make sure
that they're not doing
- [Katherine] That.
- that in the house.
I'm actually surprised we haven't caught
people sneaking in already.
- Yeah, especially with Cole.
- Exactly.
[floor creaks]
- Oh! Parker.
- Hey.
Cole doesn't sneak girls in.
He just leaves the side door unlocked.
- Leaves the side door unlocked?
- Bringing girls in the house?
Didn't hear it from me.
Well, looks like
your baby cam idea has legs.
- We have to have a chat with these boys.
- Yeah, and we need to chat with Will.
What Will? Why Will?
He showed up here last night.
He and Hayley had a huge fight.
What is going on?
I don't know.
But we're gonna have to deal with it.
First things first.
- You take Alex. I take Cole.
- [George] Yeah.
[pensive music playing]
[indistinct chatter]
[ballad playing over speakers]
Props to them. It was just crazy
that Cole could've gone to the
[Grace inhales sharply] Mmm.
I don't care. He deserved it.
Seriously?
Okay, can you blame us?
I mean, that bonfire fight
between Cole and Alex
was the most exciting thing
to happen in Silver Falls ever.
Like, I'm literally dying.
First, it's figuratively.
Second, I can blame you.
You're supposed to be my friends.
- You shouldn't be adding to the gossip.
- I wouldn't worry.
This'll all blow over soon,
and you'll be able to move on.
Like how I'm moving on
from the whole Nathan thing.
Ooh, you are? 'Cause rumor has it
you're both not really done done.
- What?
- Yeah, I heard that too.
[scoffs]
Interesting I'm the last to know
about my own relationship status.
Oh, come on. I don't get
why you and Jackie are complaining.
It's so cool to have rumors about you.
[Jackie and Skylar] It's really not.
It's just awful
that this is all happening to Alex again.
He was so messed up
by the Paige drama last summer.
[Jackie] I still don't get it. I mean, how
could Cole have stolen Paige from Alex?
She isn't property.
I'm gonna let you two take this.
Uh, do you want anything?
Hot chocolate, please.
Okay, look. We didn't know
whether to tell you this before.
Yeah, it all seemed like ancient history.
It was before you got here.
Um, okay, so basically
Cole was away for the summer,
rehabbing his leg in Colorado Springs,
and while he was away, Paige had,
like, this totally hot glow-up overnight.
Right? No one even knew
who she was before.
She threw this huge
farewell-to-summer party.
And the whole school was there.
Even Cole, he was on one or something.
Anyways, Paige and Alex
are attached at the hip
until Alex goes to go play pool.
And when he comes back, he sees
Mmm, do I wanna know?
Paige was totally all over Cole.
They were making out. It was a huge thing.
- In front of everyone?
- [Grace and Skylar] Yeah.
It's worse than I thought.
I mean, it was just a one-time thing.
But it sure shot Paige up
the social ladder.
[wrench clicking]
[Katherine clears throat]
[grunts softly]
[horse whinnies]
[sighs]
[Katherine] How's that eye?
Sore.
You know, you've always been
so good at fixing things.
The other kids really look up to you.
I know what you're getting at.
Close the wound, right?
- Gotcha.
- No, I'm not saying that.
You know Jackie's
in a really delicate place emotionally.
Wow. We're really talking about this,
aren't we?
I'm just telling you
to be careful with her.
I'm not even with her.
Oh, now I get it.
You think I'm an insensitive asshole too?
Cole, come on.
I'm sorry. It's just
Did you and Alex have this conversation?
Your father's saying the same thing
to Alex. We're not taking sides here.
We just wanna make sure you guys
don't accidentally hurt somebody
who's really vulnerable.
Don't worry, Mom. I won't.
Good.
Oh, and, um and just so you know,
we're putting cameras on the side door.
To keep out intruders.
I've heard there's been
a whole rash of teenage girls
breaking into houses lately.
It's super weird, right?
Yeah. I can't say
I've heard anything about that.
[Katherine] I'll bet.
[upbeat music playing]
Come on.
Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa.
Come on.
Whoa.
Goddamn
Come on.
Jordan, why don't you cool Murphy down.
- Okay?
- [Jordan] Sweet.
Isaac, give him a hand.
- That wasn't like you.
- [Alex] Nope.
Everything okay?
I'm just a little off. It's nothing big.
Well, this wouldn't have anything to do
with Jackie?
- No. I will not have this conversation.
- Yup. I know about this.
- We have to set some ground rules.
- Cole doesn't have ground rules.
Right. About that.
Look, I respect that you guys
have the no-snitching thing. I do.
But I need you to be
straight with me on this one.
Is Cole sneaking girls in the house?
That's what I thought. [sighs]
Okay. [clears throat]
I'm gonna be really clear, all right?
And I'm gonna say it to everybody.
It is unacceptable to have
people in our house for that.
Even if they live in the house,
we ain't doing that.
- Got it?
- Got it.
- Same page.
- Same page.
Okay, love you.
Yeah, love you too.
Oh, and, hey, uh, guys.
Can we please stop with the fighting?
Huh? We're Walters. Act like it.
[indistinct chatter]
Whoa.
Who knew your little brother
had such a mean right hook? [chuckles]
What do you care?
Easy, man. What's with you?
Nothing. I'm just
kind of tired of this whole
Yeah.
I get it.
But you know
I've always got your back, right?
Yeah. Sure. Thanks.
[mysterious music playing]
Ugh. Why do the theater geeks
always tag our lockers with their flyers?
Like we'd ever risk social death
to be in one of their plays.
Why are you talking to me?
[phone chimes]
[phone chimes]
[sighs] So this is all pretty crazy, huh?
About as crazy as you punching Cole.
He deserved to
- Never mind. You're right.
- [Jackie] No, I get it.
I heard what happened
between Paige and Cole.
And you didn't deserve that.
See? I knew you'd get it.
You don't act like I should just get over
my brother making out with the girl
I was in love with.
Wait, you were in love with her?
No. No. No.
I mean, at the time, I thought I was,
but it was months ago. I never told her.
- I
- [bell rings]
I'm over Paige. I promise. [chuckles]
I can't deal with this right now.
Okay, spill.
What's everyone saying
about me and Nathan?
- You won't like it.
- Grace, please.
I can handle it.
Okay, well, everyone's pretty split
on the whole Skythan breakup.
We were never together.
How do we have a couple name?
Because Nathan made a big speech
at a bonfire and people have ears.
Oh my God, they know about the song?
Team Nathan thinks it was peak romance.
Team Skylar agrees with you
that he was desperate.
I didn't say he was desperate.
Doesn't matter. That's what people think.
Okay, look, I love you to death, okay?
And you're the coolest person
I've ever met. [chuckles]
I would also say smartest,
but Jackie's so smart, it's kind of scary.
- [chuckles] True.
- But I'm team Nathan on this one, right?
That's the type of romantic gesture
everyone dreams of.
- You know I'm right. Okay.
- Mmm.
Alex just told me
he was in love with Paige.
I only just found out they were together.
And now he was in love with her?
How could he not tell me that?
Is he not over her? Am I a rebound?
Uh
Never mind. Don't answer that. It's just
I thought that I could trust him. And now
I need to focus on something
that makes sense.
Like mitochondria.
See?
Terrifying.
[indistinct chatter]
[students laughing]
[phones chiming]
[laughter continues]
[boy] Little bitch.
What was that about?
- You know, ignorance is bliss.
- Grace.
Okay, there's a rumor going around
that when you saw Cole and Paige together,
you ran off crying.
- Like a baby.
- Seriously?
Mm-hmm. The exact words were
"like a little bitch," but you know.
Th That's not true at all.
Who said that? Paige? Cole?
I don't know. Maybe Cole's retaliating
because you punched him.
Or maybe he's upset about you and Jackie,
'cause he's clearly obsessed with her.
Or maybe I should just shut up
'cause I'm making things worse.
You know what? I'll do some digging. Okay?
I'll try and find out what happened.
And in the meantime, what you need is
something else for everyone to talk about.
Okay? Leave it with me. Don't worry.
[phones chiming]
- Oh my God. Have you seen this?
- What?
People are saying
Alex cried over you and Cole.
Wait, really?
Oh God.
Wow, okay.
Wait, are you okay?
- What, me?
- Yeah.
Oh, I'm fine.
Like, okay, I'm sorry he got hurt,
but you don't turn down Cole Walter.
Even Alex knows that.
Hi, guys. Isaac,
we're beer-pong buddies, right?
Yeah. For life.
- So I can ask you anything, right?
- Mm-hmm.
Okay. So, about these rumors
being spread about Alex.
Okay, well, I'm not
I'm not going there so
- Don't you have better things to do?
- Lee, this is important.
Hmm. You said, "Not going there,"
so that means there is something.
No, Grace. That's a bit of a stretch.
Am I wrong?
[laughs] I knew it. Okay, guys,
I'm really trying to help here.
Alex is going through it.
I wanna clarify the rumors.
- We don't snitch.
- We're not gonna tell you anything, so
- [Isaac] Well
- What?
- Alex snitched.
- What?
- No way.
- He wouldn't do that.
Well, he told Uncle George that
Cole is sneaking girls inside the house.
- Dude.
- What?
Alex said it first,
so it's technically not snitching.
- Still snitching.
- It's not.
Wait. Does that mean Paige was
one of the girls he was sneaking in?
- Hey, no, we don't know that.
- But she could have been.
- [gasps] Interesting. Okay. Thanks, guys.
- No. Grace.
- [Lee] Nice, dude.
- Isaac.
You proud of yourself?
- Yeah, good job. Good job, yeah.
- This is getting out of control.
Why do people care so much?
Hi, could I get a piece
of the pepperoni and mushroom, please?
I got on my card. Thank you.
I forgot to grab one when I was in line.
You mind?
Go ahead.
I didn't think you liked sweet things.
Sorry, was that too much?
Look, I didn't cut in line
to get a slice of cafeteria cake.
I came by to ask
if you'd meet me at Monty's to talk.
I don't know.
I'm gonna be there tonight.
Just think about it, okay?
For you.
I know you like sweet things.
Thanks.
[stopwatch beeps]
You're slowing down. We're gonna
have to train more on weekends.
[exhales]
I was thinking of auditioning
for the school play.
And if I get it,
the rehearsal's on the weekends.
- That's not funny, Erin. Come on.
- Mom, I wasn't joking.
I wanna try something new.
Trying something new
is a luxury you don't have.
What you have is a shot at state next year
and a track scholarship.
You're not gonna blow it
to try something new. Let's go.
I'm gonna hit the shower
before lunch is over.
- Incoming.
- Cole Walter.
- Yeah?
- [Paige] What is wrong with you?
- Excuse me?
- Um, hello?
You've been telling everyone I was one
of the girls sleeping over at your place.
- Oh, damn.
- What? I would never tell anyone that.
Oh, come on, Cole.
Everybody knows.
And once your dad tells Paige's dad
- My life is over.
- I wouldn't go that far.
Wait, why would my dad
have anything to do with this?
Alex told him.
[pensive music playing]
Okay.
Hey, where's Alex?
What are you doing?
- Where's Alex?
- Even if I knew, I wouldn't tell you.
Just leave him alone.
Oh, okay. So you're on his side.
Of course I am.
Alex is the good guy here, Cole.
- You think I'm the bad guy?
- You think you're not?
Don't worry about it.
I'll find him myself.
[sighs]
Another is wise, yet I am well.
Another virtuous, yet I am well.
- But till all graces be in one woman
- [door opens]
What the hell, Alex?
Guys. No, no, no, no, okay?
Not in the auditorium, please.
You told Dad I've been sneaking girls in?
- Hey, Cole.
- No.
- What are you doing?
- He asked.
- I didn't say anything.
- Which is basically a yes.
Yeah, you're one to talk.
Brother of the year right here,
telling the whole school
that I cried like a bitch.
- What are you saying?
- [Alex] That's how you're gonna play it?
Just gonna pretend like
you don't know what I'm talking about?
Cool. Good thing I have a great memory
of you bawling your eyes out to Mom
when your football dreams ended.
Maybe I should start
spreading that around, huh?
- I think Jordan caught it on camera.
- Stop!
[indistinct chatter]
Cole.
[sighs]
Do you think I should go to Monty's
to make things up with Skylar?
I mean, I don't know. You were
kind of like a level-9,000 clinger, so
Wait. Really?
Dude, a song? You don't do that
until, like marriage.
- Well, some people just need space.
- [phone chimes]
What's this? Wait, is that
Shit.
[rock music playing]
- You guys, stop!
- Guys, help!
- [Alex] Get off me.
- [Danny] Get off of him.
Guys, get off.
- Get off of me.
- [Isaac] Enough!
- [boys grunting]
- [Danny] Hey! Come on.
Alex, get off.
Hey! Hey! Hey! That's enough!
All of you, principal's office now!
Now!
[door opens]
[Nikhil] Keep going
straight to the principal's office.
[indistinct chatter]
[Nikhil] Let's go, Alex.
We've done this before. You're gonna
shave her from the hip bone down
for the cesarean.
- [phone ringing]
- Ooh.
- Sorry, I just gotta take this.
- [clippers buzzing]
- Hello?
- [Tara] Dr. Walter, it's Tara Jacobs.
Hi, Tara.
[Tara] Sorry to bother you,
but I couldn't get George.
Your boys have gotten
into a bit of trouble.
[scoffs]
Let me guess. Cole and Alex.
Yes. And Danny.
- And Danny?
- And Nathan, Isaac, and Lee.
Okay. I'll be right there.
[Tara] Thank you.
[sighs]
I gotta run, but you can call me
if you need anything.
Alex and Cole,
you have a three-day suspension,
and the rest of you
are suspended until tomorrow.
So I guess we're going home.
Now!
[door opens]
[George]
Your mother and I don't tolerate fighting.
- That's not new, is it?
- You're not a bunch of toddlers.
You should resolve your differences
without resorting to violence.
Look at me.
Now.
You two are brothers.
What you have is precious,
and it is fragile,
and God knows it can be ripped away
from you in a second.
[somber music playing]
- You're all grounded for a month.
- [boys] What?
What about the play auditions?
You can do the auditions,
but only because they're a part of school.
And you'll be doing some extra chores
before school until I say otherwise.
That's not fair.
I mean, we weren't even fighting.
[Katherine] Do you think
this is just about the fight?
We know you've been covering for Cole
while he sneaks girls into his room
in the middle of the night.
You're allowed to have boundaries
and some privacy,
but you're never ever allowed
to sneak and lie.
Got it?
I'm sorry. Did we say you're excused?
All of you will be staying in this room
until these two figure it out.
Good luck.
Consider it family bonding.
- [rock music playing over speakers]
- Thanks for letting me sleep over.
I just couldn't be
at the house after today.
Yeah, don't worry about it.
Okay, tell me your thoughts
on Mango Flame.
It's a little loud.
Perfect.
[sighs]
I just don't understand.
Why would they be fighting over Paige?
Is Alex still in love with her?
Is Cole?
What? Okay. Jackie, for somebody so smart,
you can be so dense sometimes.
Look, it's not about Paige,
despite what she'd like to think.
Anyone with two eyes and a brain
can see how much Alex likes you.
Plus, he and Cole
have been fighting forever.
Over girls?
[Grace] Over anything.
Like, I remember in middle school,
there was this
egg-and-spoon race they tied.
They argued about it
for the rest of the year.
Okay. But physically fighting?
I mean, Cole, I understand.
He's so hot-headed.
But it just doesn't feel like Alex.
Yeah.
Maybe I just don't know him at all.
Be careful. Careful.
Oh, great. And now my nails are smudged.
Here. Give me.
Look, it's like, um
You know how Roman gladiators
used to fight to the death
for the ones they loved?
Except they didn't fight for love,
and they were all dead by their mid-20s.
You're ruining my metaphor. And dark much?
Plus, that's not the point.
The point is Alex made a mistake
when he punched Cole,
but he's still the same
thoughtful, sweet guy he's always been.
Hmm.
of good discourse, an excellent musician,
and her hair shall be
whatever color it please God.
[Isaac] Okay. Okay, you've got it down.
- We all could say it at this point.
- Yeah, I'm with Isaac. Stop.
And you guys,
can you just, like, figure this out?
- This fight is affecting all of us now.
- [Cole] Really?
It seems like it's mainly affecting me,
though, right?
You know, the one with the black eye?
[scoffs]
All right. Fine.
I didn't spread the rumor
about you crying like a little bitch.
I wish I had, of course, 'cause you
snitched on me to Dad, but I didn't.
I didn't snitch.
[sighs] Okay.
I should have said "no"
instead of nothing to Dad,
but I didn't because of what you said
about Jackie at the bonfire.
What did you say about Jackie?
Yeah, I kind of wanna know too.
- You guys, can we focus?
- You know what, Alex?
I forgive you for punching me.
But I'm really sorry that you can't
get over how jealous you are of me.
Jealous?
Who could be jealous
of someone who clearly peaked
their sophomore year of high school?
- [Nathan] Not cool, Alex.
- [Isaac] Here we go.
- [Cole] Come over and say that again?
- [Alex] Maybe I will.
- Hmm? Hmm?
- [Lee] Yo, Nathan. Guys, Nathan!
- Nathan! Nathan! Nathan!
- Mom!
Somebody get Mom and Dad. Go!
[somber music playing]
[indistinct chatter]
[doctor] Hi, Dr. Walter. George.
How is he?
[doctor] I have some good news.
Nathan is awake and talking,
which is positive.
However, he had
some confusion post-seizure,
which rules out a pseudo-seizure
caused by low blood sugar
or transient sodium.
- What does that mean?
- We'd like to keep him overnight.
Just as a precautionary measure.
That way we can do a continuous EEG.
- I'll take you to see him.
- Okay. Thanks.
[line ringing]
[phone ringing]
[pop music playing]
Oh my God. What do you think he wants?
Does it matter?
After today, I have nothing to say to him.
[slow blues playing over speakers]
Make no provocation ♪
You heard from Nathan yet?
[sighs] It was worth a try.
Team Nathan was right.
The song was romantic.
What is wrong with me?
[Kiley] Okay, no need to doom spiral.
Listen, I haven't heard from Alex
in a while either.
They probably got super mega grounded
after the fight or something.
Don't sweat it.
[indistinct chatter]
- What are you guys doing here?
- [Alex sighs]
Nathan had a seizure. He's
He's in the hospital.
What?
I thought he'd ghosted me.
I feel terrible.
Wait. That's probably why Cole called you.
- Cole called you?
- I didn't pick up.
But I wish I had. Why didn't you call me?
I was going to call, but it
It was hectic,
and there was so much going on.
And I thought
I didn't wanna worry you because of
Well, maybe maybe I should've.
No. It's okay.
I know what it's like
when someone's in the hospital.
Is Nathan okay?
Are you okay?
Nathan's fine.
They're running a few more tests,
but he should be released today.
I thought I'd grab some breakfast
for Mom and Dad.
They haven't been home yet.
Isn't that thoughtful?
You should go.
Hey, Alex, can we talk for a sec?
Yeah.
- Jackie, before
- I wanted to ask you
[Alex] Sorry.
You go.
[sighs] Jackie, I know you've been angry
with me since the bonfire.
But before you officially break up
with me, I just want to apologize.
I never should've hit Cole.
I should've told you everything
about Paige. She was my first girlfriend.
- And I thought I loved her.
- It's okay if you did.
I just
I just need to know.
- Is this a rebound thing?
- [Alex] What?
No. No.
Since meeting you, I know that whatever
I had with Paige was just a stupid crush.
You could never be a rebound.
[tender music playing]
So we're still together?
Promise not to keep anything else from me.
Promise.
Then, yes, we are still together, dummy.
- Hey.
- What are you doing here?
Aren't you suspended?
Well, not from the parking lot.
I heard about Nathan.
How's he doing?
Uh, he he's okay.
My mom and dad are with him.
Listen. You wanna ditch school?
Maybe hang out by the waterfall?
Unbelievable.
[chuckles]
Come on, Erin.
Look, I know I screwed up, okay?
The whole Olivia thing, it was a mistake.
It wasn't even serious.
You know what I have with you
is different.
No, Cole, here's what's different.
I'm not putting up with your BS anymore.
You can't just sleep with Olivia
and then hit the reset button.
We're over for real this time.
I'm sick of doing what you want
and what my mom wants.
Neither of you think about what I want.
Wha
[sighs]
Another auditioner. Welcome.
You're just in time. We're almost through.
Uh, what monologue will you be performing?
I, uh I don't have a monologue.
This is stupid. Sorry.
Erin?
- You're auditioning for the play?
- No.
It's okay to be nervous.
It just means you care.
Please. I'm not. Why would I be nervous?
I'm not auditioning.
Okay.
Um
Maybe I am auditioning.
Much Ado About Nothing is
like, my favorite play ever.
And why is that?
I feel like I am Beatrice,
which, okay, sounds narcissistic,
but I know what it's like
to be let down by people I love.
Keep going.
Beatrice is treated
so horribly by Benedick.
She's tricked into falling for a guy
who doesn't take relationships seriously.
Her friends and family treat her
like she's a joke,
like her feelings don't matter.
And she doesn't deserve that.
Before everyone tricks her,
she's perfectly happy not being married
and doing her own thing.
And if if she'd ended up alone,
at least she'd be free.
And you know what? She would've
enjoyed every minute of that freedom.
[optimistic music playing]
- [PA beeps]
- [announcer chattering indistinctly]
- Honey.
- [Katherine] Hmm?
Honey.
Nathan had another seizure
while we were doing the EEG.
- Oh God.
- Is he okay? What does that mean?
[doctor] He'll be all right.
We were able to draw blood,
see his elevated lactate levels.
Combined with the dizziness,
confusion, headaches,
we were able
to diagnose Nathan with epilepsy.
I should've seen the signs.
He's been having headaches for months.
Please don't blame yourself.
Epilepsy is difficult to diagnose.
We just got lucky he seized when he did.
Now he can go home.
I'll recommend a neurologist.
He can start on some medication.
- Thank you.
- [George] Thank you.
[knocking on door]
Uh, Will.
Oh. Thanks.
Hi.
Hey.
[tender music playing]
Um, your mom called me.
Said you might need some help.
Okay, um uh
We're fine. Right, guys?
Okay. Well, Will,
why don't you have Benny wash the carrots
while you do the onions?
Jordan, no other colors. Only purple.
We're supposed
to both be working on the card.
- I got this, Hayley.
- Okay. It's just his eyes are watering.
Just focus on Parker and Jordan right now.
Parker and Jordan seem to be having
an open and honest discussion
