NARRATOR: It's been almost
eight months since our love story began
and now, it's fall in Fairhope.
- I can't ever get enough ♪
When I'm with you it's paradise ♪
NARRATOR:
Fall in Fairhope.
A time for magical sunsets,
bare oak trees, crisp air,
and of course, romantic day dates.
Since we last saw Abby,
she's fallen head over heels
into like with Ashton.
In case you forgot,
he's the hot country
singer from Nashville.
- [sings] Well, my foot was down
heavy in a souped-up Caddy ♪
Rollin' out of Galveston ♪
NARRATOR: We all know that feeling
of being in like with someone new,
when it's all so light, so easy-breezy,
everything just seems
like a dream, like a total fantasy.
- You just say what's on your mind ♪
And we'll travel there in style ♪
ASHTON:
This place looks awesome.
ABBY:
I love this little farmers' market.
NARRATOR: Take going
to the market, for example,
usually rather boring, right?
ABBY: Thank you.
- Alright.
NARRATOR:
Not when you go with someone you like.
The flowers are a little brighter.
The produce a little more ripe.
The next thing you know,
it's a bonding experience.
- I love honey crisp apples.
ASHTON: Yeah, those look good.
- It's a delicacy [chuckles]
around these parts.
[both chuckle]
NARRATOR:
Like, "Ooh, you like apples, too?"
ASHTON: Let's try it out.
ABBY: Yes. Salty snack.
NARRATOR: "We like the same snacks?
We have so much in common."
- Um--
- Probably no onions, right?
- [chuckles] No, I don't.
- No? You sure?
[both laughing]
ABBY: I think this is
good until, like, dinner.
ASHTON: You think this is good?
Yeah, this'll be a good little picnic.
ABBY: Let's go.
- Right on. Let's go check out.

NARRATOR: Ever notice how driving
with someone you're in like with
all of a sudden feels so romantic.
It's driving. It's not romantic.
But it is when you're
in like with someone.

ASHTON:
Alright. What we got here?
ABBY: Oh, my gosh.
- Oh, yeah, these are warm.

NARRATOR:
It can really start to feel like
you've known this person your whole life
when really you've known
him for, like, two weeks,
and it's not like you're talking
about anything that deep.
- [mouthful] That was a big bite.
[both chuckle]
NARRATOR:
A full day with someone you like,
it can feel like 10 minutes,
and the next thing you know,
you're staring at the stars
asking existential questions like,
"Who am I in this world?"
ASHTON: I wish I didn't
have to leave in the mornin'.
ABBY:
Same.
- I'll tell you what,
next time I'm in town,
okay, 'cause I know we're doin'
some runs down here again next month.
- Yeah.
- It's gonna be around
your birthday, right?
- Yeah.
- Why don't I go ahead and just take
you back with me to Nashville.

- Okay.
- Would you like that?
- Yeah.
- It's okay if I kidnap you?
[Abby laughs]
- Huh? [chuckles] What you think?
- Yeah, yeah.
- Yeah?
- I'll allow it.
- You wouldn't be opposed?
- I have an office in Nashville.
- You do?
- Yeah.
- Well, shoot.
Just move to Nashville.
- [chuckles] Is-- That's early.
- Huh? [laughs]
- Are we in love? [laughs]
- I don't know. You tell me.
Come on, let's lay down, babe.
- Fine.
- I know. Th-This-This blanket's
only big enough
for-for the two of us.
Here, just--
[both laughing]
I'm not one of those astrology people,
but tell me what do you see up there?
ABBY:
I see darkness. [laughs]
- Yeah, but over there.
Look, you see a little bit of somethin'.
- The whole concept of space,
just, like, it's hard for me
to wrap my head around. [chuckles]
- Wait, why is that?
- 'Cause we're, like,
literally on a floating rock
suspended in [laughing]
the middle of nowhere.
Is that not a weird concept to you?
- Like, how small you actually are?
- Yeah.
- Yeah, like, even when
you pull out, like, a little--
just a small grain of sand
and you just keep doin' it,
like, rubbin' it between your fingers
until there's just literally just one.
- One.
- Holy cow.
Can you imagine how many there--
- Quadrillion of those.
- Just on this small beach.
Imagine.
- And that's us
in the grand scheme of things.
- You think that's us?
- That's us.

NARRATOR: If being in like
is really this wonderful, this carefree,
then why do we ever risk falling in love?
- Anyways.
NARRATOR: Is staying in like
really just our way of thinking
we might actually have control
over who we fall in love with

ASHTON:

NARRATOR:
With only a few days left
before hitting the road with her
boyfriend, Kirk, and his band,
Maya Jo is being reminded
of the changing of seasons
from Hot Girl Summer
to Fan Girl Fall.
MYA JO: So, how do you
wanna make this sign?
CIARA: Um--
[Mya Jo chuckles]
- I mean, we could do #Kirky.
- I'll add the little, the little details.
- Kirky-poo.
What are you gonna add, like a flower?
- #KirkConnell. #Kirky-poo.

- Whoa.
MYA JO:
You can't eat the sign.
[Beau panting]
CIARA:
So, are you excited about all this?
- Uh yeah, I am excited.
It's just tryna figure out
everything because, you know,
sometimes we'll be on the road
for a day or two days,
so we'll, you know, sleep on the, uh, van,
but when we get to the city,
we'll stay in hotels.
- You don't sound too excited.
- Well, I am really excited,
but it's just, like,
that's three or four months,
like, kinda pausing my life.
- But it might be nice since the situation
with, like, Nick and Baylee
- Yeah.
- and all of that to, like,
just get out and have fun
- Yeah.
- and you can't really do that again.
- Right.
I just think it's my anxiety
and I'm just nervous.
- I know.
- It's just I've never done
anything like this before.
It's gonna be h-- it's gonna be hard,
but it's gonna be really good.
It's gonna be fun.
- Yeah.
I mean, it's gonna be
something completely new.
- Yeah it's, it's gonna be fine.

a lot of guys this year,
but there's one
in particular who stands out.
Her new neighbor, Dick,
who she plans to woo

with one of her delicious pies.

So, the new neighbor has just moved in
and I heard that he is
the new town widower.
So, I think I might just whip up
a blueberry pie, you know?
'Cause I don't wanna be a casserole lady.
You know, they all line up
with the casseroles goin',
"Here, you poor darling.
I know you'll be better after this.
Can we be friends?"
But I'm no casserole lady.

I see you're my new neighbor.
- Well, I'm Dick Scott.
- I'm Claiborne Walsh.
It's nice to meet you.
- Claiborne, it's really good to meet you.
- I brought you some peach cobbler.
- Oh, my gosh.
How'd ya know?
- Oh, I never met any man
that didn't like peach cobbler.
- That's right.
- A little vanilla ice cream on top.
- Well, listen, would ya come in?
- I would love that,
but I've got some errands I've got to run.
But I wanted to come by
and let you know that
you're welcome to the neighborhood.
- Well, wonderful.
And, uh, I'll try to get in touch
with you sometime.
- Uh, the number is on a little
piece of paper on top of it.
- Oh, my gosh. Well--
- How convenient.
- Alright. Yes.

Phew. Glad that part's over.

Great, grand, wonderful ♪
- I told him it was
peach cobbler. Oh, crap.
Well, it's dessert. All men love dessert.
I'll be okay with this.
NARRATOR:
Oh, the crazy things we'll do for like.
CLAIBORNE:
He's kinda cute.

[muffled, indistinct chatter]
- [mouths] "Hi."
Hey, boo.
- Girl.
How are ya?
- Good, how are you?
- Good.
- Can I get-- I know you're closin' up.
Can I get a glass of Prosecco?
- Yep. Girl, I was gonna
give it to you anyways.
- I appreciate it.
- Take a little break and sit down.
How've you been?
- Well, okay, so, I met someone.
- Oh, really?
- Um, super cute guy.
Like, from Nashville,
tall, like, cool, cute.
He's very kind.
And, um--
- See, I told you there's
good men in this world.
- I know.
- Do you have a picture of him?
You know me, I gotta see.
- Of course, we have photos.
- I wanna see what you workin' with.
- Let's see.
[Brit pats legs]
He's cute, Abby.
- I know. He's really cute.
- Wait, what? Look at his style.
- I know.
Um--
- He seems cool.
- I don't know, it just--
- It's different.
- Yeah.
- Go hang out and let him treat you
like the queen you are.
[patrons chattering]
country music playing on speakers ♪
- Yeah.
- And you're into him, right?
Right?
[Abby inhales sharply]
- No!
- I mean,
I got a text
from my ex, Ben, last night.
- You mean the guy from New York?
- Yeah.
- [sighs] Well.
- I mean, I know I kind of told you
about, like, ya know,
when I moved back from New York
and, like, that breakup,
but I was kind of, like,
surface level with it.
- Yes.
- I didn't really
tell you the whole story.
Um,
but I mean, he was
and is an incredible guy,
and, like, everything
that I would want in a person.
And I don't know, I feel like I kinda, um,
like, screwed things up
[chuckles] with that.
He was ready to settle down
and I--
- Oh, it was you?
- Yeah. I--
And that's, like, been
a tendency of mine, though,
is to, like, self-sabotage
and think that I
don't deserve that
or for whatever reason, like,
I mean, I've always looked
at, like, marriage as such a--
A lot of people don't view it
as, like, a lifelong commitment.
And I think growing up and, like,
seeing my mom's, like, you know,
I don't wanna call 'em mistakes,
but, um like, she was married
multiple times and it just--
- Scared you?
- Yeah.
Like I, [sighs] I value commitment
and I, I'm just scared
that the other person's gonna leave,
and so I guess I leave first.
NARRATOR:
Perhaps it was the Prosecco
or opening up old wounds to her BFF, Brit,
but somehow at that moment,
it dawned on Abby
exactly what she needed to do next.
upbeat music playing ♪
NARRATOR: After wooing
her new neighbor with dessert,
Claiborne is walking on sunshine
into her first official date
with, you guessed it,
her new like interest.
Captain Dick,
who might just rock her boat.
- Look at the size of that boat.
NARRATOR: But don't worry,
Claiborne is totally gonna keep it PG.
CLAIBORNE:
Big house, big boat.
Who knows what else is big.
Let's go for it.
NARRATOR:
Ugh, Claiborne.

- Hey, Claiborne.
Come on down.
- Hey, Dick, how are you?
- Thanks for comin' all the way down here.
It's good to see ya.
- Oh, it's good to see you.
- Well, hi.
You wanna have a seat?
- Thank you.
Thanks for inviting me.
- Well, it was nice of you
to bring the pie, which is delicious.
- Well, a-actually--
- And so, here we are.
This is my home away
from home at the yacht club.
- Well, what a shame.
[Dick laughs]
- It's beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
- May I give you a glass of wine?
- I would love that.
Are you gonna have one, too?
- Sure.
- Thank you.
I'm glad you enjoyed the pie.
- I'm hoggin' it all to myself.
The neighbors don't know I have it.
- Good.
- Here's, here's to your health.
- Well, thank you.
Here's to you and your health.
So, tell me a little more about yourself.
I didn't have time
to talk with you yesterday.
- Oh, my gosh,
that's a long story. [laughs]
Well, I was married for a long, long time
to a wonderful girl named Nancy,
and we had three girls and a boy.
- There ya go.
- We have 16 grandchildren.
- Wow.
- [chuckles] Yeah.
And they're all livin' up
in Atlanta and beyond, so
- Oh, honey, you got me beat by a mile.
I have one daughter,
but she is a beauty
and, uh, she is my rock.
Well, I lost my husband about
a year and a half ago after 54 years.
So, here I am out on, on the,
on the loose, so to speak.
And I thought you were
so cute and handsome yesterday.
I just--
- Uh-oh. [laughs]
- So, anyway.
Yeah, I would, I would like to, um,
I would like to find
somebody, quite frankly.
- It's kind of a hole in your heart, huh?
- Yeah. Kind of a hole in my heart. Yeah.
- I can understand.
- Yeah. Yeah.
The n-- I think the nights
are the loneliest times.
- Yeah.
- When you're used to somebody
bein' in that bed.
- Yeah, there's only so much TV
that you can watch, I guess.
- Well, that's it.
- Do you have, uh, hobbies that you do?
Any, mm---
- I paint, and draw, and write.
- I had heard that on the street
that you are a very good artist.
- Thank you.
Thing about it is,
is learning to fill your time
after the person you depended on is gone.
But I was kind of thinkin' about
maybe tryin' to find a partner,
but I don't think that I--
I don't, I don't think that
I want a partner.
I think I just want
somebody to be friends with.
- Well, you know, that's,
that's kind of where I landed.
Um, some friends were encouragin' me
to go date somebody, ya know, but--
- It just wasn't the same.
- I, uh-- [scoffs]
You can't replace
56 years of time together.
- Exactly.
- And the common shared events
- Yeah.
- and all those memories,
so I'm comfortable with friendships.
- Yes.
- Ya know?
- Now, after meeting you
and talking with you,
if you ever need me,
call and I will bake you a cake,
come over and make you a meal,
and be your friend.
And I can have somebody
that I can depend on
to be my friend.
- And, you know, we kind of know
that's-that's where we're goin' with it
- Yes. And that's the understanding.
- but enjoy.
Enjoy it.
- Yes.
- And, uh--
- So, I can quit flirtin' with you.
- Well, don't really completely quit.
Just, just kind of--
[both laughing]
- I can't help it. It's part of me.
- Oh, and I love that.
You-You're a good southern girl
and I, and I love that.
- That's it. Mama taught me
how to bat my eyes early on.
- You never forgot. That's great.
- That's it.

NARRATOR: While Claiborne
realized that being in like
applied not only to romance,
but also to heartfelt
friendships along the way,
Lashoundra was excited
to go on one more date
with a very special someone.
The man she once loved
dearly, madly even.
- Hello, Kendell.
NARRATOR:
Then divorced, rather quickly,
and is now possibly in the like with.
This isn't gonna be awkward.
Not at all.
- I see you got me some coffee and--
- Yeah, a little sandwich.
- It's not a sandwich.
You got me beignets.
[Lashoundra laughs]
- Oh, okay.
- Well, thanks for the beignets.
[both laughing]
Kaden FaceTimed me, like, 55 times
before his homecoming.
- Really?
- "Mom, I got these bumps on my forehead.
What I, what I supposed to do?"
[Kendell chuckles]
- So, we're literally on FaceTime
and I'm telling him step-by-step
of how to cleanse his face.
[both laughing]
- He his mama's child, he's a diva.
- Well. [chuckles]
- He's a diva.
- I cannot blame the child.
[both laughing]
LASHOUNDRA: I think all of this datin'
has been a mistake,
because I really miss Kendell.
I think the datin' made me
realize what I don't want.
Kendell is who I want.
And I know where home is
and Kendell is home.
I'm slowly realizin' that I miss him.
This is good 'cause we didn't
do any of this in our marriage.
- That's kind of why mistakes happened,
but ma'am, you learn from 'em.
- Was our divorce a mistake?
NARRATOR:
And in the blink of an eyelash,
all the pain, heartache,
disappointment of the excruciating divorce
seemed to just, poof, vanish
into the warm, jasmine-scented air.

I don't think I'm gonna go.
- Why?
- Ya know, comin' home from college
and then you comin' back,
ya know, it was just-- it was great.
Like, we had a great summer,
and I think when you
asked me to go on tour,
I was in over my head
and didn't think it through.
[birds chirping]
- I'm sorry. I know it's last minute.
I just-- I don't know.
I was just thinkin' this morning,
I just, ya know, have my own dreams,
and thinkin' about movin' to Miami.
- Yeah?
Man.
[Kirk sighs]
Killin' me over here.
- I'm sorry. [chuckles]
- I mean, I want you to do what,
ya know, what you wanna do.
- I know.
Not how I expected this to end.
- No Definitely not.
I wish it didn't have to be that way.
- Yeah, me either.

NARRATOR:
Being in like is pretty great,
for a while anyway,
but it can only take you so far.

No matter what we say ♪
"I love you" never was ♪
NARRATOR:
Because when it comes down to it,
we all want the same thing.
Real true love.
[laughter]
We need it.
In fact, we can't do without it.
That feeling in your stomach, you know,
that you just can't describe.
All you know is you just
can't stop thinking about them.
All of a sudden,
everything just makes sense.
[FaceTime ringback tone]
- Hi.
BEN [over phone]: Yo.
- Long time, no see.
- Yeah, it's been,
like, a year, basically.
How are you?
- I'm good. How are you?
You look good.
NARRATOR:
But here's the rub.
Love requires taking
a risk, a leap of faith.
BEN:
Yeah, we should catch up,
if you ever wanna come back to New York.
ABBY: I know. I want to.
I feel like we need--
we do need to hang out soon,
and then we can make plans--
NARRATOR:
And yes, you might fall flat on your face.
BEN:
Yeah, it's good talkin' to you.
- Okay.
BEN: You look great.
- You too. Thank you.
NARRATOR:
