Hi there. My name is Jen.

[Jen] How are you today?
- I'm good.
- [Jen] You don't have to say that.
Want one?
No, thank you.
[Jen] Could use me
a little post-lunch sugar boost.
[breathes deeply, sighs] So
I'm the social worker on duty today.
The nurses told me that you were found
by two hikers, unconscious.
They didn't find an ID.
They brought you here.
You were in the ICU for four days.
You almost died,
but you're tough,
and you made it. [chuckles softly]
They mentioned that you have no friends
or family you want us to contact.
That's when I get called in.
So, what's next?
I'm assuming I have to pay for everything?
Is that why you think I'm here?
I don't know.

I'm here to try to help you,
to offer you some support and services
to help you get where you want to be.
- I'll just take the bill. I
- I know. You wanna get out of here.
I know you have your life,
and your freedom,
and I don't wanna take that away from you.

and the hospital
will eat the cost of your visit.
It happens all the time.
They'll discharge you today
with a prescription for pain meds.
They tox screened you,
so I know you don't do drugs.
You can sell that prescription
on the street if you'd like,
but ethically, I think it's a bad idea.
I can offer you clean clothes,
a meal, some bus tokens,
some referrals for our county caseworker,
as well as local food banks,
information on Planned Parenthood,
and, uh, the nearest free clinics.
Thank you.
You're welcome.

I know you don't want us
to contact anyone and I respect that.

that brought you in here this time,
there's a chance that what happened
could happen again.
