A NETFLIX SERIES
[mysterious music playing]
[Alma] Deva, don't!
[gasps]
Ali, are you all right?
What happened?
Ali!
- [Alma] I know who I am now
- [thunder rumbling]
[Alma] It's not one girl. It's two.
[woman] And are you one of those girls?
I feel like I know them, but I have
a feeling that I'm neither one of them.
I feel as if they weren't my memories
as if they were someone else's.
[Nico] The past
is the source of your problems.
Good evening.
Hi, I got caught
in the storm out on the trail.
My phone battery died,
but is there somewhere I could charge it
so I can call for a ride?
- There's an outlet right there.
- Thank you.
[thunder rumbling]
[phone chimes]
[bittersweet music playing]
Deva?
- I brought you some hot chocolate. Here.
- Thanks.

DEVA
[man] I'm sorry
I had to bring you here by force.
I'm sure you have a lot of questions.
I know I owe you an explanation.
In this book,
you'll find all your answers.
Even though this passage
was written centuries ago,
it tells a very recent story.
It happened back in 1969,
at the facilities of the Tanes Reservoir
here in Asturias.
Bárbara, your grandfather's sister,
was a truly exceptional woman,
and perhaps a little
too independent for her time.
One day, Bárbara and her brother
were visited by their grandfather,
the Marquis of Vista Alegre.
He had come with some very important news.
Doctors had told him he
had very little time left to live.
He was about to die.
I'm sorry, Grandpa.
[man] That's why the marquis
had been in a rush to visit,
so that he could leave his grandchildren
with the family's most precious treasure.
It was a book of prophecies that had been
passed down from generation to generation.
It held within it
all the secrets of wisdom and wealth
that they had gathered over the years.
But that knowledge came at a price.
The marquis demanded
that they subordinate their lives
to the book's designs.
That's it.
[marquis] Bárbara, your path is written.
What happens to you today
is important for us all.
Nobody writes my destiny. No.
Martín, let's go.
Martín, don't play into their game.
[man] But your grandfather,
my father, was different.
The marquis had subjugated my father
and controlled his will.
My father believed that
to secure his position as an heir
he had to obey
the book's prophecies with blind faith.
- I can't.
- You will. It is written.
[man] Although sometimes that faith
proved to be too demanding.
Bárbara couldn't have known
that this confrontation with her family
would lead her to a tragic fate.
Martín!
Can't you go along with the old man,
just for now?
Do what he asks, wait for him to die,
and then you can live however you please.
- Even marry Efrén if you want.
- I just can't, Martín.
Grandpa, his obsession,
his lust for power, it's suffocating me.
Don't you want to be part of our family?
You'd better get away from this all.
You're not alone. I'm with you, okay?
Martín.
You will always have me, I promise.
- [klaxon blaring]
- [menacing music playing]
Do it!
- No, please!
- [marquis] I said do it!
- Martín, let me go! Martín, please
- Right now!
You're hurting me! Martín, let go of me!
No! Let me go!
[yelping] No, Martín! No! Let me go!
- Martín!
- [menacing music continues]
RELEASE CHAMBER
- [klaxon continues blaring]
- [Bárbara] No! Martín!
No!
[Bárbara screaming]
[choral music playing]
You mean he murdered her?
[man] He decided to fulfill
the role that had been assigned to him.
These are all prophecies.
You knew what was going to happen.
- That's why I sent Félix to protect you.
- Uh, from what exactly?
[somber music playing]
[man] Therion, the representation
of power and absolute wisdom.
This book is a record
of all his past incarnations
and announces his new arrival
in your person.
I left my home as soon as I could too,
you know that?
My father and I never got along.
He died shortly after,
and then I met your mother.
Then you were born, Diana.
And a few years later
Martín came into the world.
A year later, your mother died.
That's when I received this book.
It was stipulated in my father's will
that it should be sent to me
at that very moment.
I almost lost my mind when
I found that both your mother's death
and the exact date of your birth
were written in here.
It was his poisoned gift.
I studied it
and discovered that every painful death,
and every horrible event
that had ever taken place in our family
were written in that book.
But the final link was
still yet to be fulfilled.
The year that you came of age,
there would be a massacre,
and the five servants of Therion would be
incarnated in the bodies of five youths,
so they can take you to him.
And why not tell us all of this before?
I tried to understand everything I could
in relation to those legends
to find a way to avoid the prophecy
but with each and every new discovery,
I began to understand it's all inevitable.
Forgive me if I've been too strict
with you and your actions.
Now you know why.
I've spent my life trying to protect you.
I can't believe you both
thought I was capable of such things.
And how could we think otherwise?
"A member of his own family
will send him to the five shadows
so that Therion can be incarnated in him."
I heard you talking to Félix before
about an inevitable massacre.
I thought you had
actually caused the accident.
I am not my father.
I need you both to trust me.
You're in incredible danger.
[Martín] And what does this mean?
It's the mark of the anomaly.
The person who bears this mark
will open the door
to the final coming of Therion.
Alma.
[thunder crashing]
[phone chimes]
NICO - YOU MESSED UP.
HALF THE TOWN'S LOOKING FOR YOU.
NEW MESSAGES - TOM - DAD
I NEED YOU TO HELP ME.
[phone chimes]
NICO - DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE NOW?
WHERE ARE YOU?
I'M COMING TO GET YOU.
[sighs]
[door opens]
[somber music playing]
We've cleaned up your grandfather's body.
If you're ready, you can come and see him.
Sorry to put you through this, but you
need to come with me to identify the body.
[somber music continues]
- [man] I don't want anyone else to die.
- [Félix] This isn't over yet.
There's still work to be done.
As long as the shadows are among us,
Martín will be in danger.
They're all innocent.
And I won't carry their deaths
on my conscience.
Three more and it'll all be over.
No one will know what happened.
Do what you have to do to protect my son.
[phone vibrating]
- Yeah?
- Tom, it's Bruno.
- Bruno, are you with Ali?
- No.
What happened? You sound strange.
- My grandfather died tonight.
- Wait, what?
[in tongues] Brothers, awaken.
[ominous music playing]
[in tongues] Brothers, awaken.
[eerie humming]
[ominous music continues]
[in tongues] It's been a long winter,
brothers.
It's been a long winter, brothers.
[eerie humming]
[menacing music playing]
[Bruno in English] They came for Martín.
They took him away
and he's not answering his phone.
I've left ten messages and nothing.
I need to see you.
Hey, wait a minute, okay? Just a sec.
I'll send you my location. Bruno,
- I think I know someone who can help us.
- Who?
- [indistinct screaming]
- [crowd shrieking]
- [woman] There! He's over there!
- [tense music playing]
[menacing music playing]
[somber music playing]
[Alma] I felt jealous of Deva
because I thought you were with her.
[Tom] Well, now you know I wasn't.
Why didn't you say anything?
Because I didn't
know if you'd feel the same anymore.
[Alma] I don't know how I felt then,
but I know how I feel right now.
Please, you're scaring me.
Can you slow down?
So it was the road
that brought your memories back.
For me it was a bonfire. Saint John's Eve.
You can lie down in the back.
If you don't see the road,
it'll be easier on you.
Aren't you going to ask me anything?
BUS CRASH IN ARGUMOSU
Deva?
[Alma] Who are you? I want the truth.
Someone just like you, an anomaly.
You knew about this.
The moment we saw each other
at the hospital, you knew.
No, I wasn't sure back then.
I thought you were possessed by a shadow.
That's why I've been investigating
all you guys until I finally found you.
Now that you're here, I guess
I should give you some advice, right?
- [thunder rumbling]
- [somber music continues]
Why are we here?
Just trust me.
SITO CAMONEDO URIA
R.I.P.
TELMA PRIETO GALAN
R.I.P.
I brought you here for you to understand
that Deva is dead and buried to everyone.
Don't ever try to be Deva again
or you'll end up in a mental institution.
- Then what am I supposed to do?
- Lie. Make everyone think that you're Ali.
[Alma] But she's still close.
Because you summon her.
Forget her and she'll be gone.
- She wanted to kill me.
- No.
- She was trying to get back in her body.
- You don't know what she could do to me.
Don't be afraid.
Why don't I show you the real Nico?
[eerie humming]
There she is.
Can you see her?
Don't have any fear of her.
Get her to disappear.
She can't hurt me though.
That's what you need to understand.
[somber music continues]
Now think about Alma.
I can't do it.
I'm just trying to help you. Go ahead.
- [ominous music playing]
- [eerie humming]
Don't run. Stand your fucking ground.
You need to understand
that you're the one summoning her.
- [Alma] I thought that she was Lara.
- Because you didn't know who you were.
But now that you know,
you can make her disappear.
Imagine her death.
Picture her body lying in that valley.
- I can't do it.
- You have to.
Imagine her heart slowly coming to a stop.
Think of how she was
before you took over her body.
- It's not fair.
- Just do it, Deva.
[gasping]
- [mysterious music playing]
- [eerie humming]
[somber music playing]
You were always a fast learner.
I can't live like this,
lying to everybody.
Well, you did it in your old life
and you weren't that bad.
I'm not that Deva anymore.
We had a great time together.
Let's run away, together.
We can be whoever we want,
don't you understand?
There's nothing tying us to these bodies.
We both can be
whoever we want for all eternity.
We're free. Freer than any mortal.
- There are no limits for us.
- No!
Deva! Are you gonna spend
your whole life running?
[Román] We've passed by here
four times and nothing.
I don't know where to look anymore.
- [sighs heavily]
- [somber music continues]
[Pilar] What is it? What are you doing?
[Román] I'm sorry.
I'm really tired.
I've been sick and tired for too long.
I don't know anymore. I don't.
It's almost like that damn accident
took everything from us.
Even who we were.
Is it possible to stay the same
after everything around you changes?
I can't remember who I was.
I don't remember what Lara
was like before her illness either.
I think of her and all I can imagine is
her sick face, Román.
The panic and sadness in her eyes.
I feel so much anger.
I've been looking for someone to blame.
I'm no better
than all those parents who blame Carlos.
I don't know what I've become.
I don't feel like
Ali's even our daughter anymore.
[crying softly] What's happening to me?
[somber music continues]
VOICEMAIL
MOM
[woman] Deva, I'm so nervous.
I just got a call saying
saying that you've been in an accident.
Sweetie, I know it must be horrible,
but please, call me back if you hear this.
[woman sobbing]
Tell me that you're all right. I beg you.
Deva, I love you very, very much, sweetie.
I love you so much.
[dog barking in background]
[doorbell ringing]
Why are you here?
Your parents called, they're worried sick.
May I come in for a minute?
[woman] Here you go.
Thanks.
So, what brings you here?
I recovered my memory
and I needed to talk to you.
Deva
Deva admired your strength and courage,
but she was always afraid of you,
of making you upset.
That's why she never told you
things that she should've.
And how would you know?
I know that you were on your own
and didn't have anyone.
That you didn't want to have a daughter
and you had to sacrifice
a lot of things to keep going.
And
she never got to say that to you.
What's it matter?
Deva's been killed.
You know, I had to identify her twice.
First, just her body.
Because even
if they showed me her clothes,
I wanted to believe
that they'd gotten it wrong.
I couldn't take it..
And then they showed me her head
on a metal tray.
We never really got along.
Deva was difficult.
There were so many times
I'd wanted her out of my life.
That's why I felt
ashamed when it happened.
I thought maybe that I had caused it.
I was never a good mother.
You wanna know something?
When they called me
from the hospital that day,
and I got there,
searching all of the beds,
seeing all those mangled bodies,
they brought in another gurney,
and I had this gut feeling.
Deva, sweetheart!
For a moment, I thought you were Deva.
It took me a while
to realize that you were actually Ali.
And a similar thing happened when you
and your mother came by that first day.
I had a strange feeling
that it was gonna be Deva.
There is so much I'd say to her.
But it's too late now.
Well, not exactly.
Mom,
I know 'cause I'm Deva.
Is this funny to you?
Coming here to taunt me?
Is that your way of honoring her,
using her lies to come here and hurt me?
Look, ask me anything
that only Deva would have known about.
You've lost your mind.
Mom, it's me, I swear to you!
I love you! I'm your daughter!
Deva wouldn't say that! You know it!
She was incapable of showing affection.
She was twisted and manipulative.
And you know that better than anyone,
she used you constantly.
She had such control over you.
Even in death she's using you now.
And you want to redeem her?
You think I don't know what she did?
Here. Take those.
There's no point in hiding them anymore,
there won't be any consequences.
But I think your mother has the right
to know what happened.
[crying] But, Mom, just listen!
It's really me, it's Deva!
- Stop it!
- [gasps]
[crying] I don't have a daughter now!
- You've completely lost it. You need help.
- What's going on out here?
[dark music playing]
Seriously? You really are a bitch then.
[dark music continues]
[door closes]
[Nico] Don't ever try to be Deva again
or you'll end up in a mental institution.
- [car approaching]
- [tires screech]
[Pilar] Ali!
[phone ringing]
BRUNO
INCOMING CALL
[Martín] I need to talk to him.
- I already told you no.
- [ringing continues]
Diana, I can't do this to Bruno.
I'm only alive because of him.
He wasn't breathing.
He came back to life when Efrén died.
If Bruno's a shadow, I'll know.
Let me talk to him.
You won't know, Martín! He'll trick you.
I'm sorry, but you can't see him.
You're scared, I know, but his
grandfather just died because of us.
- Let me talk to him.
- I'm not taking the risk.
You're just like Dad.
You two just wanna control me.
Martín!
Martín, you don't understand, all right?
[Román] You could have
answered our calls or Tom's.
You had us worried sick, Ali.
I needed some time alone.
It won't happen again.
I know who I am.
I relived the accident
and my memory came back.
I really am sorry I lied to you,
but you wouldn't get what it's been like.
You'd have thought I've lost my mind.
I just needed some time alone.
I I'm
[Pilar] Alma, you don't have to
tell us anything you don't want to.
Now that you know who you are,
you're gonna pick up your life
where you left it.
And so will we.
Look at me.
Look at me.
We love you very much.
You know that's the truth.
[Deva] See? You would be beautiful.
[both laughing]
I mean, I like it, but I don't know.
Then who are you?
- I don't know, but this is more you.
- Who am I then?
- Intense, bold.
- Fucking crazy?
Fucking crazy.
Well, I see a girl who's
elegant, sophisticated, and sexy.
Oh, yeah, 'cause I am so sexy.
I don't get how a babe like you
could be so completely insecure.
Maybe it's because I have an identical
sister who's better at everything.
If Lara's so much better than you,
then why are you my favorite?
Why am I? I don't know.
I've told you so many times
but you don't get it.
I don't get what?
Nothing, forget it.
Deva?
My mother always says that it's better
to regret doing something you wanted
than wishing
you would've just gone for it.
But, I mean,
look where it's gotten that bitch.
I don't get what you're saying, Deva.
[sweet music playing]
Since when?
Always.
From the moment I met you.
What kind of person
gives a box of secrets as a present?
A girl with secrets of her own.
- I don't know, I mean, I thought that you
- Deva, I
And when you
said you had feelings for Tom?
I don't know.
He's not like the other guys.
I don't know. I'm not afraid with Tom.
Forget it. I said nothing.
I'm going crazy, that's all.
That's the problem,
you hardly say a thing.
Look, that's it.
It's not a secret now, okay?
[sweet music continues]
[bittersweet music playing]
DRIVER OF CRASHED BUS
DIES IN MYSTERIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES
[mail app chiming]
TO: TOMASASIEGO@MAILASTUR.COM
[somber music playing]
[doorbell rings]
What is it?
Are you angry?
- Yes.
- Because of what I did?
You think you're so important suddenly?
I needed to be alone.
I'm fine with that.
Now, I know everything.
It's almost like it was yesterday.
As if all these weeks
since the accident have vanished
and I'm just getting off that bus now.
Well, at least you're still in one piece.
I'm sorry, I had a rough day.
Did something happen?
I'm losing the scholarship.
That's it. I'm not going anywhere now.
- It's not fair.
- No. No, it isn't.
And what's worse is
- Just forget it.
- What?
Look, I'm an asshole.
At one point I considered doing
what everybody wanted, accuse Carlos.
Why?
To get the compensation
and get out of this piece of shit city.
[Alma] Whenever Deva made fun
of this town,
you'd always say that
that there isn't a good or a bad place.
That it depends
on the people that you're with.
And yet you couldn't wait to leave.
I suppose in the end
we weren't that important to you.
That's not what it is.
I'm sorry, but I
I'm tired of playing it tough.
[somber music playing]
[Deva] I don't know when it started,
and I swear I try to resist it,
but I just can't get Tom out of my head.
I think about him all the time.
I love him.
[sweet music playing]
I have that feeling
of complete disgust all over my body.
Whatever he did to you,
you know it wasn't your fault.
He's not like other guys.
I don't know. I'm not afraid with Tom.
[sweet music building]
[Deva] I love you, Ali. I really do.
Deva, I
[eerie humming]
- [humming continues]
- [menacing music playing]
[Nico] Don't run.
Stand your fucking ground.
I've really missed you, Alma.
I can't live like this,
lying to everybody.
Well, you did it in your old life
and you weren't that bad.
I love you.
She was incapable of showing affection.
She was twisted and manipulative
and you know that better than anyone.
She used you constantly.
As long as it ends
with you getting what you want,
you're gonna do
whatever it takes to make it happen.
- Alma, do you have feelings for Tom?
- [Alma] Don't be ridiculous.
[Alma laughing playfully]
[Alma and Tom laughing]
[menacing music fading]
No.
How's recovery going? Just let me see it.
No. It's horrible, I'm ashamed.
So, you've seen all of me,
but I don't get to see your eye?
[laughs]
- [Alma] What is it?
- Nothing.
- I told you it's horrible.
- Come on.
Hey,
we lost track of time.
My dad could've come in and I don't know
how he'd react if he caught us.
I'm serious, get dressed.
[Nico] I'm gonna teach you
how to communicate with Roque,
the real Roque.
Roque, are you there?
[crying] Please.
Roque, if you can hear me,
show yourself.
It's your sister.
Berta.
[eerie rasping]
Roque! Roque, forgive me! Forgive me!
Tell me what to do.
- How can I help you?
- [floorboard creaks]
[eerie humming]
- You're not my brother! Who are you?
- Hmm.
Someone who's more like
the brother that you wish you had.
Don't try to hide it. I told you,
I've already seen all your memories.
And you know what?
These past few days,
I felt the same thing from
well, every person I've approached.
I felt it with Telma's parents,
and Mateo's,
with Tom,
with Mom and Dad.
Apparently, no one was a big fan of Roque.
- Not even you.
- Don't come closer.
When they were going to finally
pull the plug on your brother,
you touched his arm and I knew.
You weren't crying for your brother.
You were crying because
you were eager for the moment
when he would finally disappear
from your lives and you felt guilty.
But now everything will be different.
Don't be scared, Berta.
Please don't. Don't you cry.
You'll be with him soon enough.
[loud warbling]
[menacing music playing]
[Bruno] Which one's Aurora?
[Tom] The lady with the shawl.
[Aurora] You come looking for answers.
Don't be afraid.
You.
Come closer.
Look me in the eyes.
Are you one of those shadows?
No. I'm what's known as an anomaly.
Someone who's taken advantage
of the entrance of those shadows,
as you call them, to swap bodies.
Like Ali.
You're saying that
she isn't one of those shadows then?
- No.
- So, who is she?
Someone who died in the accident.
And Martín?
What is happening to Alma
is the unintended consequence
of what was
actually meant to happen that day.
Martín is the biggest threat.
That's the reason
that the six of us have come together.
We parted ways a long time ago.
Now the moment of truth
is finally upon us.
What about the real Alma?
Where is she? What can I do?
The only way to do anything is
to expel the one who inhabits her body.
[mysterious music playing]
The first essence will stop her heart.
Take it.
The second one will restore her heartbeat.
But there's a moment in-between
in which the link between the spirit
and the physical body
will become weak enough
so that the other soul can enter.
I have to kill her, you mean?
If you want to help her,
you need to push her body
almost to the point of her death.
I know this is difficult.
No one's returned to a stolen body before.
Alma's will to live needs to be
strong enough to really do this,
but only you can know.
[determined music playing]
THIS SONG ALWAYS REMINDS ME OF YOU
[indie rock song playing]
TOM IS A SWEETHEAR
[indie rock song continues]
CAN I ASK YOU FOR A FAVOR?
I'D LIKE TO GO BACK TO DEVA ISLAND.
WHY?
I WANT TO SAY GOODBYE TO HER.
[indie rock song continues]
- [indie rock continues in background]
- [can rattling]
[rattling continues]
[eerie humming]
[Alma] Deva.
Be careful. They're going to kill you.
I'm not afraid of you.
Leave me alone.
[eerie humming]
[ominous music playing]
[humming builds and fades]
[ominous music building]
[dramatic music playing]
