The Gymkhana Files (2018) s01e08 Episode Script
Where It All Began
1
- This video has actually
been painfully long
and painfully like
just a struggle
and that's what's
made it different
than any other project
I've ever done.
It really feels more like
an actual theatrical movie
that takes you know six
or nine months to film.
And I mean that's how
long it's taken us.
But once you get to this point
a whole other set
of work starts.
The edit process,
the marketing process,
and that's one of
the cool reasons I'm actually
going to Forza
at Microsoft today
to actually see the truck coming
to life in the video game.
And that's incredible.
Wow, look at this person.
- Wow what a boner! Holy Crap!
- And now I think they
backed into the curb.
- Oh, no!
- They did, they
backed into the curb.
- What a moron.
- [Man] Chaos on four wheels
is a little bit
difficult to get right.
So I'd love to get your opinion.
Where do you think we
have room for improvement?
- So how do I get
to the open area?
- [Man] That's on the, if
you just follow this road
and hook a right, it should
take you to an airfield.
(engine revving)
- (laughs)
- [Man] So it shouldn't
need clutch, there you go.
- (laughs)
Fuck you.
- A little bit,
little bit tighter.
Yeah. I was gonna say,
you're driving through
the middle of downtown
at 200 miles an hour.
- [Ken] Ah, I lost it.
Ah, it's fun.
No, it feels really good.
I mean, it's it's close.
- It's just
the little detail stuff.
- Yeah.
That's where this, it feels
a bit more under-steery.
- Okay.
- Like the rear wheels weren't
spinning enough you know?
- Okay, that was my
curiosity is basically the
differentials in
particular the center.
- Yeah.
- You're locked 50/50 or
- Yeah roughly.
- Roughly.
- Yeah.
- Okay.
- [Ken] So I like this
little straightaway.
I was just thinking
like does this feel like
what it's like to
accelerate this thing.
Honestly, I tell you
it feels pretty good,
but it isn't
it's actually more violent.
- Yeah.
- The real car is more violent.
[Ken] I've been playing
car video games, you know,
since I was a kid,
and now I get to go to a place
like Forza and see
one of our creations
come to life inside
a video game.
It's really cool.
- [Ken] Well, thank you sir.
- [Man] Awesome man.
- I love seeing this stuff.
- (laughs)
(screeching tires)
(engine revving)
(Latin music)
(laughing)
- Everyone move
to the back of the bus.
Put the weight on the rear.
- [Man] All right, here we go.
(engine revving)
(laughing)
- [Brian] So, these are the last
two days of filming Gymkhana.
(laughing)
I'm not really like that
much of a sentimental person
when it comes to
this kind of stuff.
It's like, let's just move
on to the next thing but
I know what the plans
are moving forward
for what we are gonna
continue to film with Ken.
I don't think there'll ever
be a shoot like this again.
You might have it.
- [Man] (speaking Spanish)
- It's just a
little flesh wound.
- [Man] Yeah, we'll put
a Hoonigan sticker on it.
- Yeah 'cause a Hooligan
sticker fixes everything.
[Brian] In Gymkhana 10,
we're coming
right out of Los Angeles
into this,
and L.A. is a bit slower,
kind of more
like tighter moves, so I want
this to be like a lot faster.
It's difficult
'cause like I want to
have a few of the
more like what Ken
would refer to as
like Gymkhana moments.
We could start
like right there
just right around that corner,
come and then slide
this corner up the hill
and then turn right at the top.
- [Man] Wrong way, right?
- Yeah.
- Police-wise
we will be fine because
- this is 7:00 a.m. Saturday.
- Yeah.
I hate doing the tech
scouts with all of
the producers because
they just want
to know like
when's it start and stop,
what bumps need to be taken out
and it doesn't give you the time
to kind of like just sit there
and you know, like re-think it.
The sweet spot
for him to land would be
right where
the CX-5 is right now.
- [Man] Right there.
That would be the money?
- Yeah.
- I almost think like
- Further back?
- [Man] We'll be between
20 and 24 feet long.
You want the option of trying
to raise it a little too?
- Yeah.
- Okay, so if it starts
- I mean that's what
happened last time
was we didn't build
the, we built the suite
and stopped thinking
he didn't want it
to be any bigger and then
he wanted to be bigger.
- Yeah, yeah exactly.
- Sometimes you
get so caught up in
the like, okay we got
to close this road
or we need to close this road.
We've got to pull out,
you know, this sign
or Greek out that
sign over there
and sometimes you forget
like what you're
there for which is like finding
the best moment of action.
So you came here,
slid this wall around here.
You would come up
this road, throw it in
like kind of reverse entry into
where these tables won't
be when you do that.
Yeah, yeah.
'Cause we need sort of that
really aggressive
backwards type thing like,
that looks like a good setting
for something like that.
Yep.
All right, see you later.
(slow Latin music)
I bought a key chain here years
ago that's still on my Nova.
A lot of times I
don't hang out with
the crews because
I'm just trying
to stay focused
on the job at hand.
- [Man] To surviving
another week in this town.
- But on this one,
I actually found
I was going out every
night with the crew,
going and eating
with them and going
and walking around
town because I think
there's that like,
man even though I'm
gonna see those
guys on other shoots
and stuff like that,
this will never be the same.
(crowd cheering)
Where are you?
Okay yeah, just throw the
flashers on and walk back up.
We'll send someone
down to get it.
All right, you're gonna be fine.
I think he's already
reached panic mode
and like, it's not
even like 8:15 yet.
Hey guys, how you guys doing?
- [Man] I've already had
my car lost once today.
- [Man 2]
They couldn't find it.
- [Brian] For a minute
there I thought you
were drinking a long drink.
I was like, damn,
Matt's in the mood. (laughs)
- I've never actually tried
to get around this city.
- That's what Derek said.
Derek was like,
I've never been here.
Like, I've been to
all the rallies,
like I never actually get here.
- Well, the first time I
ever came here was in 2006
with both Travis
and Ken racing here.
In the United States
it was really strict,
like you do not
speed on transits.
If you're caught speeding
in Rally America,
you're disqualified, that's it.
Like, if you get a speeding
ticket, you lose the race.
That's how like Travis
and Ken are thinking.
So, Lucy and I are
standing at some spot
and we were seeing
Travis coming down
and he's, you know, sitting
at like 55 miles an hour
on the road and all of
a sudden Sebastian Loeb
passes him at like 120 on the
shoulder, half on the dirt.
You just see like
Travis drop three gears
and just go chasing him.
Then after that I think it
became these guys' favorite
rally because the police
want them to drive like that.
If you come into a roundabout
and the Federales are
standing there, and you don't
slide it, they're booing you.
- And everyone on their pickup
truck with like 15 people
will just cheer like
if you're going fast.
- So we'd be down here,
you know, covering the rally
and chasing the rally,
and we'd have the official
rally stickers on the rental
cars, which also meant
that we were allowed to
do whatever we wanted.
Derek sent me this last night.
- This was Mexico.
- This is a rental car.
- This is a rental car chasing
in Mexico.
- Then I would post rental
car pictures on social media
and then Derek would
be like, take it down.
(laughing)
(drilling noise)
(engine starting)
- [Brian] Mexico will always
have that like special place
for us in the team because
it was this like major moment
where we went from
this American race team
to we are going to try
the WRC, and we actually
proved to be somewhat
successful at the first event.
(cars passing)
(engine revving)
- [Man] This is a good
corner right here.
I just hope the cobblestone
smokes up as much.
- It won't, though.
- Just got to bleach
the fuck out of the tires.
- I've always said
that, just let them
fucking soak the night
before in bleach.
You say that to
race car people like
Derek and he's like mate, mate.
(engine roaring)
(tires skidding)
I love this place
because it's connected
to where this all
started for us.
- [Ken] Really quite cool
and I think the highest
placing I ever had in
the WRC, like seventh
overall or something,
was in this race.
To come back to where it
basically started for me
and do this video part,
it's really quite cool.
- [Matthew]
Okay, so in the city of GTO,
they use these very ornate
stanchions on the side
of the road because
obviously pedestrians
are walking on the road.
Obviously, they're
made out of steel.
If the car hit it's just
big, like, just not good.
We need to have them in
one of the shots, but can
we figure out a way
of making them out of
something else so
they don't kill us?
So over here,
we have Juan Carlos
and we have Ricardo.
This is the initial process,
which is latex right?
So you apply the latex
to it, let the latex set,
put a hard coat of
fiberglass over the latex.
We put, basically, the
mold together again,
inject it with foam,
and then let it set,
and then open
the mold again and boom.
We've got like an identical
one of these in foam.
- When we first came
scouting in GTO,
about a month ago, this ramp
was set up in the square.
When we came back,
it had been disassembled.
It was brought to this yard.
It's got diamond plate
on the top, which
is what Ken loves
for traction, and then
I'm gonna have the
guys at the shop here
custom weld new legs
for us, but they'll
be adjustable too
so we can literally
lift the ramp up,
put a peg through it,
and we can raise it up
and then keep doing that
till you know we get a
big, big jump out of him.
It's gonna be like San Francisco
when he hit Russian Hill.
He said he was gonna do
about 135 feet and holy shit.
He ended up doing like 170 feet.
We thought he was gonna be
maybe six feet off the ground.
He was like eight
feet off the ground.
It was insane and I've
never seen anything like it.
He just drove over
all the GoPros.
We see these GoPros
flying everywhere.
I'm getting pretty
nostalgic about it actually.
You keep thinking oh
well then we're going
to the next city and
oh yeah after this one
we're going next and
we're gonna scout there.
You just feel like
it keeps going
and going and going
but we're, this is it.
We're at the end.
You could probably
definitely get some footage
of me crying later if you want.
I might be wearing
the glasses but
I'll be crying on
the inside for sure.
- The rain days are
the worst because
you're just sitting
and kind of like waiting.
You go to sleep the night
before and you're like
get up, visualize what
you're going to do
and then you get up
and you're like, or not.
- [Man] My fear is that
if we're not here at
the market soon enough,
- Yeah.
- The market is going
to get super, super busy.
- Yeah right.
- And it's going to be
really hard to control.
- Right.
- [Brian] One of the other
problems, too,
is most of the city
drains into the tunnels.
So, we're supposed to shoot
tunnels first up today
and even if it's dry,
the tunnels might still be wet.
I mean yesterday
it was dry but it
was still too wet to drive.
(rain falling)
- [Man] The good news
is all the parking is open.
So all the cars are gone.
It's a good start.
- [Brian] Margin of error
here is so small
because all the roads
are really narrow
and the curbs are really high.
We were already concerned
on just it being dry.
There's not a single thing here
that doesn't have like
a day-ending consequence.
- So it's thumbs up
in fifteen minutes?
Do you want to put
some money on it?
- You don't think
it's going to happen?
- I'm saying eleven o'clock.
What is it like the Price
Is Right if you go over?
(laughing)
Let's make the rules clear.
I'm saying we'll be shooting
between 10:00 and 11:00.
- When you say shooting,
we mean calling action.
- Yes.
- Calling action?
- Calling action? 1:00.
- (laughing)
- Oh shit, I'll take that.
I'm in.
A little more
Okay, from there to here
- [Brian] All right,
so the concept here is Ken's
going to come sliding
down the hill sideways
and then as he gets into
the intersection, snap
the other direction
around the roundabout,
hit the jump which
will kick him sideways,
then exit off down
and past the bump.
- [Man On Radio] All right,
guys, so we should tuck back
and away.
Everybody should be in
their safety positions.
Safety positions please guys.
Requesting full traffic lock up,
full pedestrian lock up.
Stand by for picture, please.
- We see anything down
here, Ken, I'm calling,
"Stop, stop, stop," okay?
- All right. 30 seconds,
Dan, 30 seconds, Derek.
- 30 seconds,
they're giving you.
- All right, guys, stand
by for picture, please.
- Okay, Jay said Brian's
gonna call the action.
- All right, here we go guys.
- Here we go.
We got cars on the move.
And three, two, one,
action, action, action.
(engine revving)
- [Man On Radio] Okay
car's into resetting.
We're going to need to set
reset the ramp,
so Ken needs to come
back cold caution please.
- [Derek] Okay, you need to
come back cold caution.
- [Man On Radio] Keep it
locked guys, keep it locked.
- Full caution Ken,
the ramps got thrown
on the other side
of that speed bump.
They asked me to
ask you to hit the
jump over the speed bump
more straight
so it doesn't fuck up
the ramp again,
but I'm not going to
ask you to do that
because it was really
cool the way you did it.
Now if you could
come down ass first,
it'd be good, thank you.
- [Ken] I love how
the expectations are so low.
Ken, if I had low
expectations of you,
what would it say about
our ten-year relationship?
Action, action.
(tires screeching)
(engine revving)
- [Brian On Radio]
Looked really good,
really nice and wild
on both the entrance
to the roundabout
and exit to
the roundabout.
- [Ken] I don't
think I could do that
much better, so if you're
happy with the cameras.
Yeah, Let's try the wrap.
- [Man] I've got a lot of
pedestrians to clear here.
- [Derek]
Okay, Ken's getting
out of the car.
- Great, thank you.
Can someone yell at B-Moore?
B-Moore.
B-Moore!
- Christian.
- Thank you.
- Thank you for all your help.
- You want a picture with him?
This is on behalf
of the mayor
and Guanajuato.
- Aqui, aqui.
(camera shutter clicks)
- I don't know about
those two in the back.
- They're not boy scouts.
(banging)
A photo with the girl.
- I've got this
grandmother in an urn.
- Shooters are
going to positions,
K.B.'s heading back up top.
We're going to clear this area.
We're putting in the last
thing here, the officers go.
- [Man On Radio] Nobody
else jumps down the stairs,
nobody comes through the park,
nobody crosses the street,
this is full lock.
- [2nd Man On Radio]
Copy that.
- [Ken] Okay I'm in P1.
- And car's on the move
and
three, two, one,
action, action.
- That scared
the hell out of Shreeve.
- I like that take,
that wasn't bad.
- [Man On Radio] Car's at 2.
- Replay.
- [Man On Radio] Car's at 2.
- I don't even think it
gets better than that.
- Cool guys,
we're checking replay.
- Oh, I'm not sure if it
gets better than that.
- [Man On Radio]
We'll check the rims
once he comes past,
okay, Matty?
- Yeah, that looks great.
- And I go blur.
- Yeah, Ken, we're good.
Let's bring
the car back to Derek
and move on to
the next location.
- [Man On Radio]
That's a wrap on
this location, guys.
- [2nd Man On Radio]
Open the street, guys.
- [Brian] It's cool, right?
Not a bad way to start.
That'll be good.
- How do you say I told you
it would be fine in Spanish?
- [Man] Guys, get out
of the street please.
- Oh yeah,
that's a good point.
Yeah, a good point.
(Latin music)
- We'll have an AAR later?
- That's called having
a cocktail with Omar
because I won a bet today,
and I'm gonna buy him a drink.
- We'll try here?
Okay.
With 2,000 pesos,
how many drinks can I buy?
- Depends on what kind of
drinks we're talking about.
- He said you can buy 30 drinks.
- All right, good,
I'm buying you drinks.
Woo-hoo! piñatas are coming.
The piñatas are coming.
So the idea is that
he's gonna come right
under here and there's
gonna be piñatas.
It's gonna be boom fucking boom,
fucking boom fuck fuck
boom, boom like that.
- Diego, did we hire
one PA per piñata?
You gonna stand there
and hold it?
- No, I'm gonna have
piñatas like these.
These are all full of
confetti and they're
gonna be about here,
you think?
- What's up?
- You want just to move
everything this way?
- No. Why? What's up?
- Okay, it just looks
a little odd by itself.
- Yeah.
We could like steal that guy's
magazine rack
and bring it out here.
Anything else that's
over there portable,
then we can just
pay them real quick
and drag it down,
set it up here.
- [Man] Whoa, whoa, whoa.
On the sidewalk here,
right behind me.
From the tree to
the other side
that's our boundary.
- So many people, holy shit.
Make way, please.
- [Man] Folks, watch yourselves.
Let's move!
Keep going!
- So, how do I
get out of here?
- You don't.
- We have to cut
a hole through the floor
and you drop down
into the tunnel.
You came up and as
soon as you came out,
they open those and I was
like ah this was a bad idea.
You're on TV,
say, "Hi."
- Hi to everybody
in America, I love you.
- You starting now?
- Yeah, gracias.
- Brunch's time.
We were supposed
to wrap at 6:00,
- that's 20 minutes from now.
- Here we go.
We're rolling please.
And 3, 2, 1 action, action.
(engine revving)
The piñatas are
still intact, reset.
- He hit them but
they didn't break.
He's got to hit him harder
or something, I don't know.
3, 2, 1, action, action.
(laughing)
- Woo!
- Let's do it again tomorrow.
Awesome, man.
You took the whole stand
down, that's awesome.
- [Man On Radio] Are you okay?
- I think we're good.
- Guys, thank you very much.
- (applause)
Coming up, get streets
open guys, streets open.
(bell chiming)
Good morning, sir.
How are you?
- [Man On Radio]
Hey, Matt, can you meet us?
(bell chiming)
- Matt slept on top of hotel
last night, up on the roof.
- Why?
- Because it was hot and
it was loud in his room.
(laughs)
I'm sad I'm going
to be missing my crew.
This is the last one.
- There's never ever
a last is there?
- Feels weird.
- Last day of school, isn't it?
- Oh, right?
- [Man On Radio]
So let's get everybody
into their
shooting position guys.
Let's get all of our PA's
into their lockup positions.
- We had relatively modest
expectations for Mexico.
We thought it'd be good.
We've been to that city
multiple times because WRC
and it's very colorful,
and it's visually interesting.
But the focus ended up
looking like really mean,
like on the streets
there something visually
was impressive and then
Ken just drove amazingly.
- 3, 2, 1, action.
(engine revving)
Why is Colin sitting?
- I don't know.
I saw a guy with a video camera.
- Can we get people
out of there?
- [Man On Radio]
Anybody that's near the cafe,
we have to keep them
out of there.
- Everyone needs to
get out of there.
(engine revving)
(tires screeching)
- So, I'm thinking maybe
a proximity moment?
- Proximity looks really
good in the curve, so
- I made the gap a bit
smaller, so figure your apex
is gonna be about a foot
closer to you this time.
- [Ken] Copy.
(indistinct radio chatter)
- Wow.
- Yeah, so this is B-Moore.
- It looks good.
- It looks great there.
It looks aggressive,
he just stayed on it.
- Oh, man, that looks good.
- That was sick.
Damn, that's perfect.
- You can't get any
closer without hitting it.
- Okay, I'd say
we're done with that.
- I would like to try
to do the dominoes
just because I
think it'd be fun.
It's one of those things
where everyone we've told
it to is like oh that's
hilarious, you should do that.
Mexico I scouted three
times plus I was also very
familiar with that town
before we went there.
That made, I mean
honestly of all the shoots
we had, Mexico was
the most seamless shoot
that we had the whole time.
It's because I knew it.
I knew it inside out.
I had backup plans for
if this didn't work.
I was very confident
about it because
we got to look at it a lot.
And cars on the move
in 3, 2, 1,
action, action.
(engine revving)
(alarm wailing)
We just set off
a building around here.
Well, we paid for
it to hit them so.
I want to get what I paid for.
- Do we have another bumper?
- What?
- Another bumper?
- Yeah, we do.
Look at Matt.
Oh my God, Matt.
- [Man On Radio]
Copy that, car to P1.
Dan this will be our
last shooting set up here
before we go over
to our launch area.
- Reset it!
Going right away, guys!
- All right, here we go,
we're rolling.
And car's on the move
in 3, 2, 1, action, action.
(engine revving)
- That looked pretty good, Ken.
That looked pretty good.
- [Man On Radio] So, guys,
let's get our shooters
out, please.
Let's get the
shooters out of vans.
- Getting in a van
with a headset on
and tactical vest in a tunnel,
I feel like I'm in Sicario.
Getting out like during traffic.
- This trick is
all about tunnels.
Okay so we've got Ken
coming around the corner,
out of these tunnels,
through the arches.
He's got a special little
arch trick down here
that you guys will see
shortly, and then we go out
towards these stilted houses
and back into another tunnel.
We're chasing the
clock right now.
We're a little bit off
schedule, but we'll finish
the tunnel actions here
and then we have our last
bit of action will be
a tunnel jump up in the hills.
- Okay, drones in the air.
Here we go, guys.
Car's on the move.
3, 2, 1, action,
action, action.
(engine revving)
- [Man On Radio]
Your guy stopped at
the turn here, Derek.
- [2nd Man On Radio]
Tie rod's broken.
- My guess is the
front left tie rod.
- I was hoping it wasn't broken
and I would just keep going.
- Tire's going back on,
so we're
a five-minute warning here.
- That must be a
front wheel there?
- Yeah. I don't know.
- Let's go look at
play back.
- It looked really violent.
So loud.
It looks really sick, but I
think we should push for it.
Jim, can we take
20, 25 minutes here?
- We will do what
we have to do, Brian,
but we need to move out
of here as soon as we can.
- I'd really like to
try to do this again.
Can I get an update
on art department?
- They're gonna be
blinded by the light.
So, it's kind of pretty.
- You're talking about
adding light into my face
as I'm going through a corner?
Sounds awesome.
(laughing)
- All right, here we go, guys.
Car's on the move.
3, 2, 1, action, action.
(tires screeching)
- Does that feel good?
- Whoo, that's rowdy.
He literally broke the whole
front suspension off again,
the same thing he did,
but he just kept
it going just for the shot.
That's some rally
shit right there.
He's like, "Car's broken,
keep going."
- It's gone so fast.
It's crazy it's gone so fast,
like I mean we're
already here in Mexico
and I don't even know
what we'll do after this.

Like, I've been to
all the rallies,
like I never actually get here.
- Well, the first time I
ever came here was in 2006
with both Travis
and Ken racing here.
In the United States
it was really strict,
like you do not
speed on transits.
If you're caught speeding
in Rally America,
you're disqualified, that's it.
Like, if you get a speeding
ticket, you lose the race.
That's how like Travis
and Ken are thinking.
So, Lucy and I are
standing at some spot
and we were seeing
Travis coming down
and he's, you know, sitting
at like 55 miles an hour
on the road and all of
a sudden Sebastian Loeb
passes him at like 120 on the
shoulder, half on the dirt.
You just see like
Travis drop three gears
and just go chasing him.
Then after that I think it
became these guys' favorite
rally because the police
want them to drive like that.
If you come into a roundabout
and the Federales are
standing there, and you don't
slide it, they're booing you.
- And everyone on their pickup
truck with like 15 people
will just cheer like
if you're going fast.
- So we'd be down here,

rally stickers on the rental
cars, which also meant
that we were allowed to
do whatever we wanted.
Derek sent me this last night.

- [Ken] Really quite cool
and I think the highest
placing I ever had in
the WRC, like seventh
overall or something,
was in this race.
To come back to where it
basically started for me
and do this video part,
it's really quite cool.
- [Matthew]
Okay, so in the city of GTO,
they use these very ornate
stanchions on the side
of the road because
obviously pedestrians
are walking on the road.
Obviously, they're
made out of steel.
If the car hit it's just
big, like, just not good.
We need to have them in
one of the shots, but can
we figure out a way
of making them out of
something else so
they don't kill us?
So over here,
we have Juan Carlos
and we have Ricardo.
This is the initial process,
which is latex right?
So you apply the latex
to it, let the latex set,
put a hard coat of
fiberglass over the latex.
We put, basically, the
mold together again,
inject it with foam,
and then let it set,
and then open
the mold again and boom.
We've got like an identical
one of these in foam.
- When we first came
scouting in GTO,
about a month ago, this ramp
was set up in the square.
When we came back,
it had been disassembled.
It was brought to this yard.
It's got diamond plate
on the top, which
is what Ken loves
for traction, and then
I'm gonna have the
guys at the shop here
custom weld new legs
for us, but they'll
be adjustable too
so we can literally
lift the ramp up,
put a peg through it,
and we can raise it up
and then keep doing that
till you know we get a
big, big jump out of him.
It's gonna be like San Francisco
when he hit Russian Hill.
He said he was gonna do
about 135 feet and holy shit.
He ended up doing like 170 feet.
We thought he was gonna be
maybe six feet off the ground.
He was like eight
feet off the ground.
It was insane and I've
never seen anything like it.
He just drove over
all the GoPros.
We see these GoPros
flying everywhere.
I'm getting pretty
nostalgic about it actually.
You keep thinking oh
well then we're going
to the next city and
oh yeah after this one
we're going next and
we're gonna scout there.
You just feel like
it keeps going
and going and going
but we're, this is it.
We're at the end.
You could probably
definitely get some footage
of me crying later if you want.
I might be wearing
the glasses but
I'll be crying on
the inside for sure.
- The rain days are
the worst because
you're just sitting
and kind of like waiting.
You go to sleep the night
before and you're like
get up, visualize what
you're going to do
and then you get up
and you're like, or not.
- [Man] My fear is that
if we're not here at
the market soon enough,
- Yeah.
- The market is going
to get super, super busy.
- Yeah right.
- And it's going to be
really hard to control.
- Right.
- [Brian] One of the other
problems, too,
is most of the city
drains into the tunnels.
So, we're supposed to shoot
tunnels first up today
and even if it's dry,
the tunnels might still be wet.
I mean yesterday
it was dry but it
was still too wet to drive.
(rain falling)
- [Man] The good news
is all the parking is open.
So all the cars are gone.
It's a good start.
- [Brian] Margin of error
here is so small
because all the roads
are really narrow
and the curbs are really high.
We were already concerned
on just it being dry.
There's not a single thing here
that doesn't have like
a day-ending consequence.
- So it's thumbs up
in fifteen minutes?
Do you want to put
some money on it?
- You don't think
it's going to happen?
- I'm saying eleven o'clock.
What is it like the Price
Is Right if you go over?
(laughing)

I'm saying we'll be shooting

we mean calling action.
- Yes.
- Calling action?
- Calling action? 1:00.
- (laughing)
- Oh shit, I'll take that.
I'm in.
A little more
Okay, from there to here
- [Brian] All right,
so the concept here is Ken's
going to come sliding
down the hill sideways
and then as he gets into
the intersection, snap
the other direction
around the roundabout,
hit the jump which
will kick him sideways,
then exit off down
and past the bump.

Let's get all of our PA's

expectations for Mexico.
We thought it'd be good.
We've been to that city
multiple times because WRC
and it's very colorful,
and it's visually interesting.
But the focus ended up
looking like really mean,
like on the streets
there something visually
was impressive and then
Ken just drove amazingly.

Why is Colin sitting?
- I don't know.
I saw a guy with a video camera.

we have to keep them
out of there.

good in the curve, so

Damn, that's perfect.
- You can't get any
closer without hitting it.
- Okay, I'd say
we're done with that.
- I would like to try
to do the dominoes
just because I
think it'd be fun.
It's one of those things
where everyone we've told
it to is like oh that's
hilarious, you should do that.
Mexico I scouted three
times plus I was also very
familiar with that town
before we went there.
That made, I mean
honestly of all the shoots
we had, Mexico was
the most seamless shoot
that we had the whole time.
It's because I knew it.
I knew it inside out.
I had backup plans for
if this didn't work.
I was very confident
about it because
we got to look at it a lot.
And cars on the move
in 3, 2, 1,
action, action.
(engine revving)
(alarm wailing)
We just set off
a building around here.
Well, we paid for
it to hit them so.
I want to get what I paid for.
- Do we have another bumper?
- What?
- Another bumper?
- Yeah, we do.
Look at Matt.
Oh my God, Matt.
- [Man On Radio]
Copy that, car to P1.
Dan this will be our
last shooting set up here
before we go over
to our launch area.
- Reset it!
Going right away, guys!
- All right, here we go,
we're rolling.
And car's on the move
in 3, 2, 1, action, action.
(engine revving)
- That looked pretty good, Ken.
That looked pretty good.
- [Man On Radio] So, guys,
let's get our shooters
out, please.
Let's get the
shooters out of vans.
- Getting in a van
with a headset on
and tactical vest in a tunnel,
I feel like I'm in Sicario.
Getting out like during traffic.
- This trick is
all about tunnels.
Okay so we've got Ken
coming around the corner,
out of these tunnels,
through the arches.
He's got a special little
arch trick down here
that you guys will see
shortly, and then we go out
towards these stilted houses
and back into another tunnel.
We're chasing the
clock right now.
We're a little bit off
schedule, but we'll finish
the tunnel actions here
and then we have our last
bit of action will be
a tunnel jump up in the hills.
- Okay, drones in the air.
Here we go, guys.
Car's on the move.
3, 2, 1, action,
action, action.
(engine revving)
- [Man On Radio]
Your guy stopped at
the turn here, Derek.
- [2nd Man On Radio]
Tie rod's broken.
- My guess is the
front left tie rod.
- I was hoping it wasn't broken
and I would just keep going.
- Tire's going back on,
so we're
a five-minute warning here.
- That must be a
front wheel there?
- Yeah. I don't know.
- Let's go look at
play back.
- It looked really violent.
So loud.
It looks really sick, but I
think we should push for it.
Jim, can we take
20, 25 minutes here?
- We will do what
we have to do, Brian,
but we need to move out
of here as soon as we can.
- I'd really like to
try to do this again.
Can I get an update
on art department?
- They're gonna be
blinded by the light.
So, it's kind of pretty.
- You're talking about
adding light into my face
as I'm going through a corner?
Sounds awesome.
(laughing)
- All right, here we go, guys.
Car's on the move.
3, 2, 1, action, action.
(tires screeching)
- Does that feel good?
- Whoo, that's rowdy.
He literally broke the whole
front suspension off again,
the same thing he did,
but he just kept
it going just for the shot.
That's some rally
shit right there.
He's like, "Car's broken,
keep going."
- It's gone so fast.
It's crazy it's gone so fast,
like I mean we're
already here in Mexico
and I don't even know
what we'll do after this.
- Ken's still active,
in terms of doing
some Rallycross,
doing some stage rally.
He absolutely wants to
slow down a little bit.
His kids are getting older.
They're real humans,
they can converse.
- [Kids On Phone] Hi, Daddy.
- Hi.
- So he wants to spend
more time with them,
but I think we'll
still continue to do
a handful of projects in terms
of video stuff every year
just because he
can't turn that off.
- I know we're going
to do the next Climbkhana.
I know we're gonna do
other things like that,
but, yeah, it's just different.
It's like, you know,
your favorite band
may still play
with a different bassist or
a different vocalist or
whatever and it's still your
favorite band, but it's not
your favorite band anymore.
Cut.
- I don't think, at this
point, that even if he's
racing less, I don't think
he's going to be doing less.
Because that's just
not his personality.
- [Ken]
I don't like starting a job
and not finishing it.
- He can't sit there
and do nothing.
He gets so bored so easily.
I don't know where it's going,
Hopefully somewhere
in his favor.
- This will be our martini
shooting area guys, okay, FYI.
- It's just the further you keep
going back,
the weirder the arc gets.
- Oh, yeah.
- So, I'm either
gonna clip here or
jump all the way to
the bottom, you know.
- Right, and make sure
it's bolted down.
- I'm not a ramp engineer.
- Nobody here is.
(laughing)
- So basically, my safety
is in your hands, Brian.
- I mean, it's the last one.
As long as you make
the landing
and clear the camera,
we're good.
All right, here we go, guys.
Car's on the move
in 3, 2, 1, action, action.
- I don't feel like
it's an end to anything.
I feel like it's just a changing
of an era, that's all.
It's like we're doing the
biggest video we've ever done.
We set our sights to
do a particular thing,
and at a certain point
that needs to change
and we just shift focus.
- That was pretty good.
I don't think it gets
better than that.
- All right,
let's get going then.
- Yeah, going out
with ten is strong.
It feels good.
It's a decade of dominance.
- We have to end this thing.
- Oh my God,
are you making a speech?
- No.
- Speech!
- [Crowd]
Speech, make us cry.
- Everybody, thank you so much.
This has been the longest
Gymkhana we've ever shot.
Thank you everyone
who's been a part
of this for however long.
All of you who just
came on for this one,
we appreciate it.
That's a wrap everyone,
thank you very much.
- Thank you, everybody.
Stoked to work with
such talented people.
I can't do this without
you guys, so thank you.
(applause)
- If he could, he would though.
If he could, he would.
(laughing)
(cheering)
I fucking hate you,
but here you are.
- Come on.
All right, you two, hey.
Remember in the pits, it's slow.
You go slow through here.
You don't accelerate and go
full speed out here okay?
Once you get on the
track, full speed.
You hear me?
Look at me. Yeah?
Okay.
All right, you can send them.
Was it fun?
- [Girl] Yeah.
- The main thing
with this is you want
to go the shortest
distance and you want
to be as smooth
as possible, right?
Straight is fastest.
