Gillian! [Footsteps echoing.]
DR MCKENZIE: Keep it down, Anna.
There're other patients here.
[Panting.]
- [Beep.]
- Why are you doing this? [Anna sighs.]
We tested your blood.
Your cells are changing.
They're mirroring themselves.
And you have brain lesions.
I saw the book you keep your notes in.
- [Beep.]
- Your mother had fugue states too.
I know.
There are others too.
A boy.
Kade.
I have to get out of here.
[Beep.]
I think I know who killed Chloe.
Anna, you're hallucinating.
The lesions are affecting your judgement about what is real and what is not.
I've prescribed you some more risperidone.
- I'm not taking it any more.
- Anna, - Have to find out what's happening.
- someone, or something, tried to kill me.
They ran me off the road.
What do you mean "something"? Don't worry.
You'll be safe here.

RADIO ANNOUNCER: The local health department closed Michalak Oyster Farm just one day after the shutting down of the local mill.
A spokesman for the health department refused to discuss how long the oyster farm would be closed, but there is no doubt it's going to hurt the local industry.
All of this on the very day that locals are preparing to farewell Kettering teenager, Chloe Holloway, who was tragically murdered a week ago.
While police have been busy interviewing suspects, they have refused to comment on whether they'll be making an arrest any time soon.
And in further news, there'll be a number of road closes this weekend - [Rustling sound.]
- due to - [Intriguing music.]
- [Renae gasps quietly.]
[Motorcycle revving.]
[Motorcycle idling.]
[Eliza emotionally.]
I wanna stay with you.
DANE: Don't worry.
I'm gonna fix everything.
[Ferry horn sounds.]
[Motorcycles accelerates away.]
Come on, Lize.
Ferry's about to leave.
[Footsteps approaching.]
[Indistinct background chatter.]
She's not here.
- What do you mean she's not here? - She managed to find a way out.
You said she'd be secure.
It's dangerous for her.
She thinks you're hiding something from her.
I think so too.
She deserves to know the truth.
However bad that may be.
[Footsteps receding.]
[Dog barking.]
[Engine starts.]
DUTCH: Sleep well? - No, not particularly.
- Good.
You have a conscience thing.
You didn't hear what she was saying.
She thinks Jens is David Owen.
Anna's no crazier than anyone else in this place.
Is that all of them? There's about a half a dozen still missing from 85 reported stolen.
- DUTCH: Someone's gathering an army.
- Looks like it.
They're burying Chloe today.
It's about time.
I got Grayson in there waiting for us.
Found an imprint on one of the threat letters.
It's his signature.
You are a man of mystery, Fergus.
You know that? Do I need a lawyer? Depends.
Did you write these letters to Max Holloway? [Chair creaks.]
Yes, I did.
DUTCH: Did you kill Chloe Holloway? - No, I did not.
- Well, these letters suggest otherwise.
I was upset with Max.
Been getting too friendly with the greenies, so - I wrote 'em to teach him a lesson.
- FERGUS: And then Chloe was killed.
Took a lot of muscle to drag that body from the ridge, then dump that dead weight out of a car at the mill.
I didn't touch her.
Chloe could be a pain in the arse, but she's good kid.
Max and Barb are friends for Christ's sake.
Eliza was Chloe's best friend.
You were at the party.
- Few of us went up there.
- For what purpose? Just keeping an eye on 'em.
By them you mean the environmentalists.
Well, you can call 'em that if you like.
Then you trashed their camp the next morning.
They've ruined our fuckin' livelihoods! Pissed you off, didn't it? Seeing Chloe up there at the party, thumbing it at her dad - and you blokes.
- Don't.
She's a kid.
- She's a stupid rebellious kid.
- DUTCH: Was.
- Pardon? - Was a stupid rebellious kid.
What time did you get home from the party? About midnight.
Anyone verify that? - No.
- If wives are good for anything, they're good for alibis.
Sharon'd be too pissed even if we did live together.
Right, we'll need to test DNA and fingerprints.
Interview terminated at 9:15 AM.
You seen Travis Kingston lately? Travis Kingston Nah, why? Just wonderin'.
I'd get a good lawyer if I were you.
That you, Adam? - [Hands being brushed clean.]
- [Wind chimes tinkling outside.]
- You don't need to do that.
- It's no trouble.
Pretty flowers.
- [Barb sighs.]
- [Barb slams down the kettle.]
The water's still off.
I'm thinking of moving on.
Moving? There's nothing here for me any more.
You said yourself Gillian's not coming back.
[Sighs.]
Oh, Renae, I didn't mean that I've probably been a fool waiting all this time.
Travis filled a space and now he's gone.
Did it ever cross your mind about Travis? What about him? The way he's taken off.
You think Travis killed Chloe? Travis left because of me.
Not because he killed somebody.
I know my grief drives people away.
No one can understand the pain.
Renae it's Chloe's funeral today.
[Gentle music.]
[Holding back tears.]
Roy should've stood by you all those years ago, that's the truth of the matter.
He had his faults.
We all do.
You think I don't know about you and Dutch? - What are you talking about? - [Quietly.]
Oh, come on, Barb.
It's obvious every time he walks into the pub.
Everyone can see.
Chloe knew.
She told me.
Barb, none of us are infallible.
[Whispers.]
Not even you.
But you're right, it isn't the time.
It's Chloe's day today.
I would have had all pink flowers for Gillian.
She was always crazy mad for pink.
[Birds squawking.]
- SHARON: What are you doin' here? - Where's Eliza? Is she here? Yeah, she's in her room.
Craig? - [Knocking on door.]
- Eliza.
- [Knocking on door.]
- Eliza? What the hell are you doing? - It's a moth tattoo, like Chloe's.
- SHARON: What the hell? [Quietly tense music.]
Is this Chloe's camera? How long did you have this? Eliza, where did you get it? I found it.
SHARON: Would somebody tell me what's going on? Found it where? [Music becomes brooding.]
Eliza, stop it! She's coming with me.
[Ominous music.]
Feels like there's a storm brewing, son.
Yeah, Pop.
I know.
[Eerie music.]
- [Car door closes.]
- Dominic? [Knocking on door.]
Dominic? [Tense music.]
[Anna gasps.]
Oh, shit.
[Music ends.]
[Birds twittering.]
[Phone rings.]
[Phone rings.]
- [Ominous music.]
- [Phone rings.]
[Phone rings.]
[Phone rings.]
[Phone rings.]
[Phone rings.]
- - [Line rings.]
[Line rings.]
[Line rings.]
- [Line rings.]
- [Hangs up phone.]
[Brooding music.]
FERGUS: Tell us where you found the camera, Eliza.
I can't remember.
Have you had it all this time? Maybe.
I can't remember.
Did you write those threatening letters to Max Holloway? - Fuck you! - Eliza.
- Don't touch me.
- FERGUS: Hey, hey, settle, Lize.
Chloe made me.
- Made you what? - Write the letters.
Where'd you go after the party? - Home.
- Can your mother verify that? She locked the house, I slept in the car.
Eliza, do you know who killed Chloe? Dane reckons you did.
Dane loved Chloe, he's emotional.
- She didn't deserve him.
- FERGUS: What do you mean by that? - This is bullshit! - Lize.
- Come on.
Come on.
[groans.]
Eliza.
- Let go! - Hey! - Come on, come on.
- Eliza! - Just relax, all right? Calm down! Hey, come here! What? - Argh! Argh! - Jesus! Lize! Calm down.
[Intriguing music.]
Take her home.
We wanna talk to both of you later.
ELIZA: You're all going to hell.
Why did you let her go? - [Exhales.]
- [Locker rattles.]
[Camera beeping.]
DUTCH: Anything on there? [Hushed.]
Jesus! - Not yet.
- [Camera beeps.]
[Camera beeps.]
I can bring Dane in for formal questioning.
- You're wasting your time.
- Yeah, because you threatened him.
He was gonna make a statement before you got to him.
He lied about his alibi, just like you did.
I mean, Chloe dumped him, so he's got motive.
He's not capable of killing anyone, neither is Eliza.
[Camera beeping.]
What about you? What? You heard.
[Quietly brooding music.]
I was fucking Barbara Holloway the night of Chloe's death.
What? [Camera beeping.]
DUTCH: Ask her.
We were in a motel.
I'm not proud of it.
You're fuckin' kiddin' me, aren't ya? [Phone rings, buzzes.]
Dutch.
[Camera beeps.]
DUTCH: Okay.
I gotta go.
[Scoffs.]
[Camera tone as it switches off.]
[Brakes squeal.]
[Hand brake applied and engine shut off.]
[Car lock beeps.]
[Car door closes.]
[Sighs.]
What's going on? Dominic's dead.
Dominic? [Inhales.]
He was a scientist who was in Antarctica with David Owen.
[Intriguing music.]
DUTCH: Who are they? They're the men that David Owen left behind.
- The guy whose fingerprint we found? - Yeah.
- Anna, he's dead.
- No, he's missing, he's not dead.
It's the same thing 55 years earlier.
Place called Dyatlov Pass in Russia.
The same energy was in Alaska in 1967.
Norway in 1991.
That's more of Dominic's base.
Travis.
What? [Sighs.]
Where did you get these photos? Dominic left them for me.
He must have known.
He was in trouble.
He told me about a signal.
He first heard it around the time Gillian disappeared.
It came home from Antarctica, and then he heard it here.
What is it? I think it's got something to do with the sphere.
- What's this? - I'm not sure, but look at the pattern, on the side.
It's the same as the markings on Kade and Chloe.
And Mum.
- Eliza has those markings.
- Eliza? Yeah, I saw them.
Apparently I had them when I was young, I don't remember.
Now I'm back, and my blood's changing.
Changing? How? I think it has something to do with all my fugues and the humming sound.
I've been investigating your father.
He took money in 1998.
I suspect it was from a biotech company.
- Amber Arrow.
- Toxic waste.
Yeah.
I mean, what if this thing, this sphere, came with it? The dates match.
Chloe knew something, Dutch.
She knew I didn't kill Gillian.
You need to see this.
[Seagull squawking.]
- I found this in your car.
- What? That's what killed Chloe.
Anna? Someone's setting me up.
Dad has a spare key.
They're burying Chloe today.
Your father will be there.
Stay away.
It's too dangerous.
[Engine starts.]
[Wings fluttering.]
[Eerie bellowing sound.]
[Fluttering intensifies.]
So when do the cops wanna see her again? When she wakes I s'pose.
She couldn't have done this.
Chloe was gonna leave her.
She had no one.
She's got us! We weren't watching her, Sharon.
Too busy watchin' ourselves.
[Gentle music.]
CRAIG: Lize? Liza.
You awake? [Music becomes brooding.]
- [Low rumbling thud.]
- [Eerie whispering.]
[Eerie whispering.]
You can't do this.
- [Indistinct whispering and fluttering.]
- [Music box plays.]
[Intriguing clanging music.]
[Seagulls squawking.]
- - [Brakes squeal quietly.]
[Engine stops.]
[Music fades.]
[Seagulls squawking.]
[High-pitched beeping.]
[Indistinct chatter.]
[Beeping, engine whirring.]
[Seagulls squawking.]
[Reception bell rings.]
[Door handle rattles.]
[Jolly music playing quietly in background.]
Hello? [Door creaks open.]
[Quiet clanging music reverberates.]
[Clanging music intensifying slowly.]
[Door opens and echoes.]
[Footsteps echo in hangar.]
[Low rumbling thud.]
[Tense music intensifies.]
[Loud echoing clatter.]
[Low rumbling thud.]
[Low rumbling thud.]
[Gloves being put on.]
Who called it in? Anonymous.
- DUTCH: How d'ya know 'im? - Well, he [Sighs.]
I used to talk to him about my father's disappearance.
You know, theory of the tides.
[Quiet brooding music.]
FERGUS: It's another mad thing that's happened since Anna showed up.
FERGUS: Chloe, Wendy, the oysters I mean, it's not even a mill town any more.
That's just been sold to out-o'-towners.
Some group called "Amber Arrow".
[Phone rings.]
DUTCH: Yeah.
FERGUS: It's a .
243 casing From a stolen rifle, I reckon.
[Evidence bag rustles.]
DUTCH: Thanks.
Uh, forensics have called in the results on the paint chip and tail light glass we found in the piggery.
Belongs to a silver car, possibly a sedan.
Hey, that could be Travis Kingston's other company car.
- DUTCH: Doesn't Eliza work for Travis? - She does.
Yeah.
Let's go check with Renae first.
Make sure Eliza had access to the car that night.
DUTCH: No one goes inside until forensics get here.
[Police tape rustles.]
[Faint rhythmic thrumming sound.]
[Rhythmic thrumming intensifies.]
- [Droning rumble.]
- [Eerie indistinct whispers.]
[Rumbling ends abruptly.]
LOFTY: We've been waiting for you.
Lofty? What are you doing here? [Rhythmic thrumming continues.]
I heard they put you in an asylum.
My father did, yeah.
JENS: D'you think you're mad? No.
Not any more.
I'm glad you came.
I know who you are.
You're a scientist.
In Antarctica, 1998.
JENS: I'm certainly no scientist.
Police have a partial fingerprint belonging to a David Owen.
Was found on Chloe's belt.
- Meaning? - Meaning if they took your fingerprint they'd have a match.
[Plastic sheeting rustles.]
I know you killed Chloe.
[Knife clicks open.]
- I didn't kill her.
- ANNA: You're a liar.
- She was already dead when I found her.
- I don't believe you.
She was out the back of the old Sullivan house.
- I moved her body to protect people.
- What people? People like you and me.
I traced Amber Arrow's chain of title.
It's registered as a biotech company but its origins fall off the radar as soon as you get to Denmark.
- So, what conclusion have you come to? - It's a front.
Who are you working for? What are you doing with all this stuff? ANNA: Why do you have thiopentone? This is schedule 8.
It's a hallucinogen.
You can't administer this unless you're a doctor.
That's why I'm glad you came.
[Plastic sheeting rustles.]
[Plastic sheeting rustles.]
[Distant dripping.]
[Light hums.]
[Quietly tense with rhythmic drumming music.]
The lesions You know, people tell me I was close to my father.
We were inseparable.
But I don't remember.
I don't remember anything before that day in the forest.
JENS: It was a traumatic time for you.
- [Low rumbling thud.]
- ANNA: What about you, David? What do you remember? You used to care about people.
You used to care about the environment.
ANNA: You were a husband.
- ANNA: You had a son.
- [Cabinet drawer clunks open.]
[Cabinet drawer slams shut.]
[Gentle piano music.]
Gillian My name is Dr Colleen McKay.
[Music becomes ominous.]
ANNA: Wait! Wait! Wait, please! [Door handle rattles.]
[Low rumbling thud.]
- ANNA: Who is she? - An extraordinary woman.
There's no scientific mind quite like hers.
- Let me speak to her, please.
- You could be like her, Anna.
You could be an extraordinary doctor.
[Hushed.]
I don't want that any more.
- JENS: Well, what do you want? - I wanna know who I am.
- JENS: The truth? - Yes.
- You've seen it.
Between moons - [Low rumbling thud.]
- Shifting time.
- [Anna gasps.]
The seeds have dislocated everything.
[Hushed.]
The seeds? You mean the spheres? - What are they doing? - JENS: They bring new life.
A new order.
And by you coming with me, it will tip the balance.
JENS: We have a plan.
And we want you to be a part of it.
ANNA: Is that why you killed Dominic? 'Cause he worked out your plan? [Loud rumbling thud.]
Dominic's dead? A bullet to the temple, but I think you know that already.
[Rumbling thud.]
No.
But I know who killed him.
Who? - JENS: They stole the rifles.
- Who did? JENS: They're sick and contaminated.
They don't understand that they're dangerous.
There are others.
- How many? - JENS: Dozens.
Kade? - We need you to help us.
- ANNA: Why me? Because you're one of us, Anna.
[Low rumbling thud.]
I need to speak to my father.
Don't you wanna know the truth? Because it's only the truth that's left now.
[Car engine idles and stops.]
FERGUS: Renae? [Birds chirping.]
[Knocking on door.]
FERGUS: Renae? FERGUS: Door's unlocked.
[Door creaks open.]
Renae, are you home? - I'll check the garage.
- Right-o.
[Quiet rustling and creaking.]
Jesus.
[Quietly ominous music.]
[Sighs deeply.]
- [Electricity crackles.]
- RADIO: And if you can avoid going out - today, it's best to stay onshore.
- Bloody electricity, that'll be next.
- The weather bureau predicts stormy - No water, no electricity.
weather, warns farmers and graziers to prepare for the worst, as a massive - MALE PATRON: Oh, bullshit! - [Deb sighs.]
All ready for the concert? - We've got a long drive.
- DEB: Thanks, Renae, for taking 'er.
Are you sure? Y'know, I'd take her myself, but - DEB: All set? [Chuckles.]
- Yeah.
DEB: Oh! Mwah! Now, don't forget to smile.
Judges love a smile.
She'll be fine.
Come on.
You can sit in the front with me.
[Matilda chuckles.]
[Snooker balls clattering in background.]
DUTCH: Fergus? DUTCH: The car's not in the garage.
[Quiet gentle music.]
What's that? FERGUS: I saw this lipstick on Chloe's camera.
It was sitting in the grass.
[Music becomes ominous.]
It was the last photo taken that night.
- DUTCH: Oh, shit.
- FERGUS: What? DUTCH: The spare keys to the Jag.
To Anna's car.
[Paper rustles, keys jingle.]
RENAE VOICE OVER: By the time you have read this, I will be gone.
And what I leave behind is some of the pain that others have inflicted on me.
To all the parents and their children, to those who have laughed at me, [Phone rings.]
turned their back on me Kettering Hotel, Deb speaking.
Yeah, she was just here.
She's taken Matilda to a concert.
Why? RENAE VOICE OVER CONTINUES: I don't want you to look at me with pity [Car brakes skid to a stop.]
I want you to feel my pain.
DEB: I've just rung the organisers.
There is no concert.
I'll call it in.
Deb, is there somewhere we can talk? RENAE VOICE OVER CONTINUES: Nobody knows what it's like to lose a child.
The desperate helplessness, the aching loss.
People look at you like you're contagious with some horrible disease they don't want to catch.
But they don't really care.
Now you'll know what it feels like.
Chloe had to pay the price for you all.
My precious Gillian was taken from me.
Perhaps it was punishment for my sins but who can say they live without sin? [Low rumbling thud.]
- [Birds chirping.]
- [Faint church music.]
ROY: Anna, it's me.
Please call me as soon as you get this message.
I need to talk to you urgently.
ROY: I'm sorry I let you down.
I need you to come home.
Uh I love you.
[Church music continues.]
[Wind gusting.]
I'm sorry, Barb.
Max.
- Hey, Macca.
- G'day guys.
How are we? MACCA: What the hell is that? [Quiet low thrumming.]
MACCA: What d'ya reckon that is? CRAIG: Buggered if I know.
[Thrumming intensifying slowly.]
SHARON: And that bloody noise.
Oh, Adam, thank God you're here! Where have you been? [Sniffles.]
Where have you been? MAX: Adam.
[Ominous music.]
POLICE RADIO: one of our cars left about 5 minutes ago.
DUTCH: Yeah, right.
DUTCH: There's a sighting of a car matching Renae's up near Bothwell.
They've got three cars out there already.
It's our job to wait here in case Renae shows up.
DUTCH: I think Renae killed Chloe to get back at Anna.
FERGUS: Let's let them bury their daughter before we tell 'em, okay? [Sighs.]
I'm gonna go and pay my respects.
[Car door closes.]
[Wind gusting.]
- DEB: You gotta find them.
- [Sighs.]
Oh, shit.
Why are you here? Why aren't you looking for her? - SINGLET: Mum, come on? - Deb, we've got people looking for her.
What's going on? - Renae took her.
She took Matilda.
- BARB: Took her? Where? FERGUS: Barb, Max, we need to talk.
- Let's go inside.
- DUTCH: Come on.
- Get your hands off my wife.
- FERGUS: Max FERGUS: Max! You know who killed Chloe, don't you? [Low drum beats.]
[Low drum beats.]
BARB: Fergus? MAX: Tell us.
[Low drum beats.]
- It was Renae.
- [Barb sighs.]
- [Deb moans.]
- What? - I'm so sorry.
- [Low drum beats.]
- MAN: So, are you sure who killed her? - [Deb sobbing.]
- No.
- [Deb sobbing.]
- SINGLET: Come on, Mum.
- DEB: No! - Fergus - FERGUS: What? - We need to go.
Now.
- [Deb quietly.]
Why? Where? [Low drum beats.]
Someone's reported hearing gunshots coming from Mother Sullivan's Ridge.
[Fergus hushed.]
Jesus! [Low drum beats.]
Dutch! [Intriguing music with drum beats.]
FERGUS: Dutch, come on! Let's go! [Eerie whispering voice.]
Anna! Anna! Help me.
[Fluttering wings intensify and stop abruptly.]

[Footsteps approaching.]
[Gentle piano music.]
The King's lomatia.
Survived for 43,000 years against the odds.
JENS: It survived and allowed us to live.
JENS: We have reached a critical mass, a threshold.
JENS: It's too late to save humankind.
JENS: But we can change it.
You didn't just come here to find out what happened to Gillian, Anna.
You came here to find out what happened to you.
[Barn door rolls open.]
[Floorboards clatter.]
[Low rumbling thud.]
[ECHOED VOICE.]
What is this? [ECHOED VOICE.]
Gillian! [Low rumbling thud.]

YOUNG ANNA: Gillian! [Eerie whooshing shriek intensifies then quietens.]
[Anna muffled.]
Get some sleep.

Dane? [Echoing.]
[Low rumbling thud.]

Liza! It's cold in here! - Can you get out? - [Eliza gasps.]

Dane, is that you? [Dane echoing.]
Come on, Eliza! Up here! [Quiet intriguing music.]

- [Eliza gasps.]
[Dane echoing.]
Eliza! [Brooding music.]
DANE: Come on.
I've got ya.
Been lookin' for you all night.
What the hell is down there? ELIZA: I saw something.
There're people down there.
DANE: We gotta go.
Come on.
Gotta get out of here.
ELIZA: What are you doing with a gun? DANE: Protection.
Come on! [Engine starts.]

[Phone rings.]
[Phone rings.]
[Phone rings.]
[Phone rings.]

Forgive me, Fergus.

O Thou who changest not [Dutch moans quietly.]
- DUTCH: Hey.
- O Lord - FERGUS: For fuck's sake, Dane.

Stay with me.
- With me [Birds chirping.]

[Wings fluttering.]
[Thrumming quietens.]
[Kade breathes shallowly.]
[Footsteps approaching.]
[Gentle piano music.]
The King's lomatia.
Survived for 43,000 years against the odds.
JENS: It survived and allowed us to live.
JENS: We have reached a critical mass, a threshold.
JENS: It's too late to save humankind.
JENS: But we can change it.
You didn't just come here to find out what happened to Gillian, Anna.
You came here to find out what happened to you.
[Barn door rolls open.]
[Floorboards clatter.]
[Low rumbling thud.]
[ECHOED VOICE.]
What is this? [ECHOED VOICE.]
Gillian! [Low rumbling thud.]
[Low rumbling thud.]
[Low rumbling thud.]
You've made the right decision, Anna.
[Dark rumbling intensifies and ends abruptly.]
- [Anna panting.]
