Honest Manipulations

HARRY: I'm Harry Tasker,
husband, dad, computer salesman,
and for 17 years the most
important person in my life
didn't know I was also something else.
Omega Sector's top spy.
HELEN: I'm Helen Tasker,
wife, mom and professor.
After an unfortunate incident
where I found out
our whole life was a lie,
now I'm also a spy.
HARRY: Honey,
all those things are true.
- They're just, you know
- HELEN: What?
HARRY: True lies.
COMPUTER: Mission file: 2020.
Agent Harry Tasker was sent undercover
to Slovenia to intercept
experimental high-tech explosives.
Code name: Operation Bomb Swipe.
(MAN EXCLAIMS)
- (ALARM SOUNDS)
- (MEN SHOUTING)
HARRY: Gib, gonna need
some help getting out of here.
All right, alarms are going off,
so the main exit is out.
Uh, there's an open door
up ahead on your right, Harry.
Yeah, Gib, that door on the right?
It just closed.
Okay.
Looks like we're
in a complete security lockdown.
This is not good.
- (POUNDING ON DOOR)
- (MEN SHOUTING)
I got the AI hacking
into the security systems.
- Sit tight.
- "Sit tight"?
Gib, listen to me, I am not
missing Helen's birthday.
You think I want you
to miss her birthday?
Do you understand how much time
I spent buying the gift
you're giving her?
- When is our dinner reservation?
- Uh, it was 7:00 p.m.
at Chez Monsieur.
Ooh, and I hear the cassoulet
is out of this world.
It's a shame Helen's gonna miss it.
No, it's not a shame.
Helen is not gonna miss
their cassoulet, whatever that is.
You need to talk to the
computer system, man.
Have you tried to hack
a Slovenian military base?
I can't even read this.
Hey, Gib?
Omega doesn't need all four
of the explosives, do they?
Harry, don't do that.
The hallway's too small.
We can get you out of here
without you blowing things up.
Gib, sometimes you got to blow stuff up.
Don't, don't do that.
Gib, it's Helen's birthday,
and I am not gonna miss it.
(GRUNTING)
- Happy birthday, honey.
- (LAUGHS) Thanks, Harry.
I can't believe you got a reservation.
You know this place is fancy
because the portions are so small.
Well, it does cost the same
as a mortgage payment.
But you're worth every penny.
Harry, is that blood on your shirt?
- Oh, uh
- Yeah.
I was unpacking a computer and the
box cutter went rogue. I'm fine.
Madame?
- For you.
- Thank you.
A little gift I got you.
Thank you, honey.
- Can I open it?
- Mm-hmm.
Okay.
Oh, Harry.
It's perfect.
Thank you, baby.

I think the kitchen
would say otherwise.
Muffin, I have everything
under control.
(BELL DINGS)

See? Perfect timing.
Kids, dinner's ready!
Finally! I am starving.
(HARRY GRUNTS)
Oh! (LAUGHS)
Wow.
Yes.
What's wrong with the meat?
Nothing.
It's just breathing.
Dad, is it breathing or is it bleeding?
The recipe said 30 minutes.
It's 30 minutes

No problem, no problem.
It's a six-pound roast,
so that's, uh
Two and a half more hours?
Yes, eat some peas, no problem.
Put this back.
And while we wait,
I can tell your mom about
a romantic getaway that I planned

You and your brother are gonna go
to Lolo and Lola's tomorrow and we
will be staying at a luxurious villa.

I know that. (SCOFFS)
Oh, honey. I'm so sorry.
Here's what I think happened, if I use
my Omega-trained spy
critical thinking skills.
You forgot to make a reservation,
so you couldn't get us in anywhere.
So you decided to make
roast because you

we all narrowly escaped
death from E. coli.
I made mashed potatoes.
And this luxury villa might that be
the leaky time-share
that Luther is always trying

(LAUGHS) I will pack the extra towels.
I'm sorry. I'm really, really sorry.
I just got used to Gib
managing all this stuff.
You don't think I figured that out?
And by "manage everything,"

Because two days after our anniversary,
you got me lilac-scented perfume.

I know, I know.
You like the stuff that
Gib gets you better. I get it.
It's not about what Gib got.

It's not about the stuff, Harry.
I'm even over the fact that

All of those memories

They meant something to me.

Hey, shake a leg, guys!
We got a new mission on deck.
Seems like a hedge fund
out of Berlin is up
to some pretty shady stuff.
And we got to stop it.
Eyes on center screen. Listen up.
COMPUTER: Omega Sector analysis

Ocularis Ventures may be
responsible for a series
of recent disasters that have
claimed hundreds of lives.
The Shido Industries
plane crash in Japan.
The Bona Pharmaceuticals fire in Brazil.
Others are suspected
and currently under analysis.
Ocularis has made almost
$200 million on investments
affected by these incidents.
Omega algorithms calculate a
one-in-over-five-trillion chance
that this is pure coincidence.
That's many trillions.
So we think
they're causing the accidents?
Uh, specifically,
we think that it's this guy.
Ocularis CEO Reed Kessler.
Ex-CIA. Counterterror division.
He'd know how to bring down a plane.
We think he's gonna do it again?
GIB: Yeah, and this is
gonna be the worst yet.
Ocularis just made an
investment that pays off big
if the cruise ship industry tanks,
so we think they're gonna hit a ship,
but we've got no proof.
We've had no luck with hacks,

improvements to the laser cutter.
You'll be our first field test.

anything important.

useful.
And it's now adjustable
so it can cut larger things.
LUTHER: Love it.
And if you adjust
the color of the laser,
it can cut other things like glass.
That is amazing.

- Put it on speaker.
- Okay. (CLEARS THROAT)
Hi, honey.
Hey, where are you?
Oh, I'm just out doing errands.
You sure about that?
Because after your questions
about Ocularis last night,
I was concerned, so I put together
a little security detail
and followed you. Lisa
I know where you are.
Stop what you're doing right now
- (HANGS UP)
- Gib, you hear that? We got problems.
What? Who's
- Who are you talking to? Who's Gib?
- There's no time.
LISA: Seriously, who's Gib?
What's going on?
Come on.
LISA: I don't like this.
(DOOR CLOSES)
GIB: Luther, Maria, I got armed guards.
There's three of them
coming up the west stairwell,
heading your way. You need to move.
"Move?" Is that it?
Any other suggestions?
GIB: Just get out of there.
Who are you? Where are we going?
I work for a U.S. government agency.
- You're not safe here.
- You're a spy?
- You lied to me?
- Oh, come on, a lot of people lied to you.
Stop!
Gib
- we're coming out, east side.
- GIB: We'll be ready.
- Where are we going?
- The ambulance. Come on.
HARRY: Go, go, go!
(TIRES SCREECHING)
You.
From last night. You're a part of this?
Yeah, it's a funny story,
and you're gonna laugh.
I thought you were helping me,
but you're both spies?
- You monsters!
- No
Harry, got an SUV coming in hot.
Gib, step on it.
I'm on it.
HELEN: All the corporate accidents
that Reed is profiting from,
he is also causing.
No, no, Reed would never hurt anyone.
He's literally shooting at us right now.
- Whoa, not good.
- (GUNSHOTS)
Get down.
- We're sitting ducks up here.
- We've got to get off this thing.
(GUNSHOT)
(GUNSHOT)
I'll cover you. Go!
Come on, Gib, you can
drive better than that.
I'm going as fast as I can, buddy.
HARRY: It's an ambulance.
Don't they go fast?
Harry, you know
this is a disguise, right?
This thing handles
like a fridge on wheels.
Yeah, could you just let me out?
I actually
don't want to be a part of this.
I understand that
it's really, really hard
to hear the truth, but I promise
you, everything we did,
we did it with a good reason.
There's no good reason to lie.
You want to explain that one, Helen?
Sometimes there is,
like when people's lives are at stake.
There, Harry. Happy now?
The air conditioner thing, go. Go.
(GUNSHOTS)
Keep them busy. I've got an idea.
If we can take those two guys out,
we can go over the side.
Here come more guys.
They're flanking us.
Hey, I can't shake 'em, Harry,
and this ambulance wasn't
built for a shootout.
(LISA SCREAMS)
Stay down, stay down.
(HELEN AND LISA SCREAM)
HARRY: We're not gonna last
much longer like this.
I got to get rid of these guys.
What, no, Harry, what are you doing?
No-no-no-no-no, get down.
I'm making an explosive.
I'm gonna try and blow 'em up.
Who are you, Nolan Ryan? How
you gonna get close enough to hit 'em?
HARRY: Well, the windows don't open,
and even if they did,
I wouldn't be able to aim,
so I'm gonna go out on the gurney.
Harry, that is literally the worst idea
I have ever heard.
- (LISA SHRIEKS)
- Yeah
I don't love it either.
Helen, come sit over here.
Lisa, get back there.
Gib, I need you to
hold this thing steady.
GIB: How am I supposed to do that?
I'm dodging bullets.
Harry, there has to be
a better way to do this.
Yeah, well, sometimes
you've got to blow stuff up.
GIB: Didn't go so well
last time you said that.
Are you serious? You are
going to get yourself killed.
Maybe, but if I don't,
your boyfriend's going to
kill thousands of people,
and I'm not going to let that happen.
GIB (GROANS): This ambulance
is about to need an ambulance.
Harry, if you're gonna do
the bomb thing, now's the time.
- Helen, you ready?
- HELEN: No, I'm not ready.
- I hate this.
- Honey, we don't have a choice.
Go.
Harry!
I'll hold them off while you go down.
- Who's gonna cover you?
- We can't both go. I'll be okay.
What are you talking about?
The minute you run
out of ammo, you're dead.
Either one of us gets off this roof,
or neither of us does.
- Then you go, I'll stay.
- LUTHER: If I don't make it,
you'll tell Quinn that
I was thinking about her
and that I'm grateful for all
the time we had together?
MARIA: No, I am not bringing
love letters to your new girlfriend.
Please, Maria.
(GROANS)
- I'll go left, you take right.
- Wait, this is crazy.
Whatever you have to say to Quinn,
you can tell her yourself.
- You sure you're okay, big guy?
- Yeah. Yeah, I'm all right.
- I was so worried about you.
- (GROANS)
- Helen, my ribs.
- Oh. Yep.
Sorry.
Don't worry, Helen.
Harry's been through worse.
Hey, good news is, it was worth it.
I already heard from Omega.
They went through the data
that we pulled off of Reed's computer,
and they're currently
pulling 1,500 passengers
off of a cruise ship
with a bomb in its hull.
All in all, I'd call
that a good day's work.
Hey, will you just tell me one thing?
Was anything you told me true?
All of it.
And kind of
none of it.
If I dislocated my shoulder
jumping from behind that air
conditioner, you're paying for my PT.
Totally fair.
Oh, one thing.
You really didn't want to
give Quinn my message, huh?
- You thought that was about Quinn?
- Yeah.
You know how much paperwork
I would have to do if you died?
That's it? That's the only reason?
QUINN: Luther!
Hey.
- Thank God you're okay.
- Yeah.
(GASPS)
I mean, thank God
the whole team is okay.
Yeah, it's okay. I know.
Oh, good.
Oh, it was so hard pretending.
Mmm.
(MARIA CLEARS THROAT)
Ah.
- Hey. Eva.
- Hey.
How you doing, babe?
Mmm. I'm so glad to be home.
I'm glad you made it back safe.
Yeah, got a little hairy there
for a minute, but (CHUCKLES)
- Hey.
- (CHUCKLES)
Something wrong?
I read the mission report.
Mm-hmm.
How were you able to text
me six times while driving
an ambulance and dodging gunfire?
What?
Ah, that-that must have been a mistake.
It's probably the time zone
difference, something like that.
Gib, I checked.
Exact same time.
See
I know, this You're gonna
Okay, so, I have this
AI program on my phone,
and I kind of programmed it,
um, to how I feel.
So it sends
the actual, y-y-you know, the texts.
But that's just so you know that
I'm thinking of you, baby. That's all.
That's just so you know.
But you weren't.
Not then.
No, I mean, but I was thinking
about you when I wrote the program.
Gib, I was so happy
when I got those texts,
and now I find out it's just a trick.
What? No, it's not It's not a trick.
- Those texts are real.
- No
Th-They're computer-generated,
but it's-it's still
I'm sorry, Gib.
I want to date a person,
not a computer program.
This isn't going to work.
Harry, what are you doing?
HARRY: One sec.
I wouldn't be mad if you
brought me a glass of wine.
Well, funny you should ask.
Oh. Champagne?
(FRENCH ACCENT): What is this?
This is a birthday do-over.
(CHUCKLES)
I wanted to sneak it in
before the kids got home.
- (LAUGHS) Cheers.
- Cheers.
Mmm. It's delicious.
And that's not all. There's more.
Happy birthday, Helen.
What is this?
Well, I can tell you what it's not.
It's definitely not a heart locket.
(CHUCKLING) Okay,
then I like it already.
It's
What is this? (LAUGHS)
So, I talked with Omega.
Remember how I told you
about the explosion,
how the nail ripped
through my tactical vest?
- Yeah.
- Well, they held on to the nail,
so I had it made special for you.
That is so sweet, Harry.
And it's from me.
It's not from Gib or an AI.
It came from me.
- And an explosive device.
- (LAUGHS)
You're so romantic, Harry Tasker.
You know what's even more romantic?
What?
- I've got a scar to match.
- (GASPS) Michael Stone.
(LAUGHS)
Are you okay?
Oh, my stars.
- (LAUGHS)
- Michael Stone.
(LAUGHS) These kisses are real.
Right?
