[man] Max and Ruby.
[woman] Ruby,
and her little brother, Max.
[kids] Max and Ruby!
[kids giggling]
[Ruby reading]
Bye, Louise.
Thank you for coming
to Max's birthday party.
Thank you for
inviting me, Ruby.
It was fun.
Happy birthday, Max!
[toys rattling]
[Ruby] Bye-bye.
See you tomorrow
at Bunny Scouts.
[sighs]
That was a great
birthday party, Max.
You got some
wonderful presents.
Max, I have an idea.
I'm going to make everyone
beautiful thank you notes
from all this
pretty wrapping paper.
You can sign your name
with stickers.
Let's see
Uncle Frank needs
a thank you note
for these pajamas,
and the Huffingtons
need another one
for this steam train,
and
[gasps]
Max, here's a present
you forgot to open.
"Happy birthday, Max,
from Aunt Claire
and Uncle Nate."
Hmm, I wonder what it is.
Open it.
Don't rip the paper.
We can use it
for a thank you card.
Opening presents is so exciting.
What is it?
[toy lobster clacking]
No.
A wind-up lobster.
Say hello, Max.
No.
[toy lobster clacking]
[giggling] Look, the lobster
likes to clean up.
It's so funny.
This is a wonderful lobster.
It can do so many things.
No.
It plays tag, too.
[giggling]
No.
I don't think
it's an outside toy, Max.
[Ruby humming]
I left your present
in the kitchen, Max.
[toy lobster clacking]
[objects clattering]
Let's make Aunt Claire
and Uncle Nate
a thank you card
with extra sparkles on it.
We'll need scissors
and paper and glue.
This will look great
with sparkles.
[toy lobster clacking]
The lobster wants to share
your birthday cake, Max.
No.
Aunt Claire and Uncle Nate
will be so happy
to get this thank you card
that they'll want to send us
a thank you card back
just to say thank you for
the thank you card.
Then we'll say, "thank you"
and they'll say, "thank you"
and then we'll say, "thank you"
until we run out of sparkles.
Hmm
Should I use green sparkles
or gold sparkles?
I know.
[toy lobster clacking]
[objects clattering]
[objects clattering]
[objects crashing]
No.
[Ruby] Beautiful.
Max, I finished
your thank you card
to Aunt Claire and Uncle Nate.
Do you want to sign it with
a gold star sticker or
a bluebird of happiness sticker?
[toy lobster clacking]
Max, don't you want to play
with your new toy?
No.
Okay, I'll put it away.
[objects crashing]
[Max] Oh!
[Ruby gasps] Uh-oh.
Watch out.
Slow down. [giggles]
It's got to wind down soon, Max.
Not yet.
[Ruby giggling]
[gasps] Look out behind you!
No!
[toy lobster clacking]
[Ruby] I'll help you, Max.
I'm going to put you away
so you don't scare Max anymore.
No.
Again.
Oh, Max.
[giggling]
[Ruby reading]
"You are invited to a fancy
tea party at Ruby's house."
Now all I have to do
is mail it.
Mail for you, Max.
I am having a Bunny Scout party
and you are invited.
We are all going to dress up
in our very best clothes.
You can wear
your brand new suit.
[rocket ship voice] Blast off!
Get dressed, Max.
There's a lot to do
before our guests arrive.
This is going to be the fanciest
Bunny Scout party ever.
Nothing beats
a well-dressed bunny.
You dropped
your new suit, Max.
Put it on and I'll let you
help me set the party table.
Don't forget to wash
your ears, Max.
Only the very best
cups and spoons
will do for a fancy party.
Just right.
Hmm, something's missing.
[gasps] I know!
I need a fancy centerpiece to
put in the middle of the table.
Where's that vase I made
in first grade?
Hmm
There it is.
Now that's fancy.
But you're not.
Go put on your new suit while
I find clean table napkins.
No one will want to get
their fancy clothes dirty.
[Ruby humming]
[gasps]
Here's your new suit, Max.
Hurry up and get dressed.
Our guests will be here
any minute
and I still have to
put out snacks.
No suit.
There's just one more thing.
Mississippi chocolate
fudge cake.
Oh, I hope I haven't
forgotten anything.
I can't wait to see
what everyone's wearing.
[gasps]
I forgot to get dressed up.
Hurry, hurry, hurry.
[gasps]
Your new suit doesn't
need to be cleaned
until after you wear it, Max.
I'm going to help you
get dressed
or you'll never be ready.
First, the pants.
Always cross the straps
in the back so they stay up.
Now the shirt, Max.
Now your jacket.
There.
The buttons go through
the button holes.
The tie goes on last.
Good, you're all dressed up.
[doorbell ringing]
And just in time.
Come on, our guests are here.
[all] Hi, Ruby.
The first thing to do at
a fancy party is introductions.
Martha, Louise.
Louise, Martha.
Valerie, Martha, Louise.
Pleased to meet you.
A pleasure, I'm sure.
Oh, no, the pleasure
is all mine.
[all giggling]
Where's Max?
He's just getting dressed.
No suit.
[Ruby] We just have to
wait for Max
before we can cut the cake.
I decorated it, myself.
What an interesting
centerpiece, Ruby.
I've never seen
anything like it.
Marigolds are my favorite.
Max is taking a long time to
get dressed, Ruby.
I'm hungry.
I'll go see what's keeping Max.
[gasps]
What happened, Max?
Everyone is waiting to have
Mississippi chocolate
fudge cake.
You have to get dressed, first.
No suit.
No suit, no cake, Max.
Our guests are waiting.
Max has been having trouble
putting on his new suit.
But now that I've shown him
what to do,
he'll be down in a moment.
Oh, my.
[all gasping]
Dressed up.
[Ruby reading]
[music playing on recorder]
[music ends]
[Ruby sighs]
It's time for bed.
[yawning]
Good night, Emily.
Good night, Rapunzel.
Good night, Mr. Quack.
Good night, Mrs. Quack.
Good night, walkie-talkie bear.
Good night, Ruby.
Still up.
We already said
good night, Max.
Come on.
Back to bed.
That's it, Max.
Here's your red rubber elephant
and I'll put this glass
of water right here
in case you get thirsty.
Good night, Max.
[glass clatters]
Max, what was that splash?
Still up.
Your outer space pajamas
are soaked, Max.
You'll have to wear your
birthday cake pajamas, instead.
First, the bottoms.
Then, the top.
These go in
the laundry basket.
Lullaby and good night, Max.
[crunching noise]
[sighs]
Good night, Emily.
Good night, Rapunzel.
Good night, Mr. Quack.
Good night, Mrs. Quack.
Good night, walkie-talkie bear.
Good night, Ruby.
Still up.
Straight back to bed, Max.
It's easy.
Just follow the trail of
cookie crumbs.
No wonder you're still up.
Your bed is full of crumbs
and your birthday cake pajamas
are a mess.
You'd better put on
your Halloween pajamas, instead.
First, the top.
Then, the bottoms.
Snug as a bug in a rug.
[humming]
Good night, Max.
[crickets chirping]
[chirping continues]
Good night, Emily.
Good night, Rapunzel.
Good night, Mr. Quack,
Mrs. Quack, walkie-talkie bear.
And good night, Ruby.
Still up.
Max?
There, now you can go to sleep.
Sweet dreams, Max.
'Night, Emily, Rapunzel,
Mr. Quack, Mrs. Quack,
walkie-talkie bear
and good night, Ruby.
[clock ticking loudly]
[muffled clicking]
[loud clicking]
[clock shattering]
[insect buzzing]
Still up.
[Ruby sighs]
Where are your
pajama bottoms, Max?
[insect buzzing]
Shoo, fly, shoo!
Don't bother Max.
There are your pajama bottoms.
Ew, cherry-flavored
nightcrawlers.
You are going to
run out of pajamas, Max.
Here, put on your
high-flyer pajamas.
I'll be right back.
Excuse me, Emily, Rapunzel,
Mr. and Mrs. Quack.
[walkie-talkie bear] Hello.
You are coming with me.
Here, Max, my walkie-talkie bear
always helps me
when I can't sleep.
Just give him a squeeze.
And he says
[bear] Good night.
Good night.
See?
Good night, Max.
'Night, everyone.
Good night, Max.
[Max] Good night.
[bear] Good night.
[Max] Good night.
[bear] Good night.
[Max] Good night.
[bear] Good night.
[Max] Good night.
