in this competition,

she's a talented performer,
but she is so invested

in her brand.

to bring the crown home

JEFFREY: How are you?
SCARLETT: I'm fantastic!

JEFFREY: What has been
the biggest surprise
being a part of
Canada's Drag Race?
SCARLETT: You don't realize
how intense emotionally,
physically, mentally
This is the Olympics of drag.
One week I'm acting
in a her-itage moment,
and the next week
I'm singing the national anthem.
SCARLETT: I have
grown significantly
in this competition.
I never thought I would
be able to do half the shit
I ended up doing.
SCARLETT: I sewed a cape
and I lined it with a hood,
with a lining in it.
JEFFREY: And it was good.
[laughter]
SCARLETT: I kind of was like
second-guessing myself,
and, you know, I was attaching
myself to my sisters too,
and so
JEFFREY: Mm Mm-mm-mm!
SCARLETT: it took me
a couple of weeks
to like find my footing,
and I did it,
which was great. [laughter]
SCARLETT: I did it!
I'm here.
TRACI: You're doing this
on your own.
I imagine you're
missing your mom.
SCARLETT: Oh my god,
she's trying to get me going!
I know she's doing it.
I know she's doing it.

TRACI: Moi?
You have a very special
relationship with your mother.
SCARLETT: I do, yeah.
TRACI: Can you
tell us about that?
SCARLETT: My mom's my best
friend in the entire world.
I remember when I was 17,
at my first show,
she'd have to work
at 6 in the morning,
but like she would stay at
my show to watch me on stage.
Like, she's always
my cheerleader.
In the village in Toronto
she will walk into a bar,
and everyone's like,
"Move, BoBo.
Mama BoBo's here."
JEFFREY: [laughs]
SCARLETT: Like, she's iconic.
She really is.
SCARLETT: She looks at me
when I'm performing on stage
and just like she beams.
Like, I just like
I live to make her so proud.
SCARLETT: I grew up with
a really terrible childhood,
a really bad home.
My stepfather was extremely
abusive towards myself
and my mom, and my mom
was my best friend--
my mom, my dad, my superhero--
and I don't know where
I would be without her.
I really don't.
TRACI: That darkness
in your childhood,
how does that influence
you being a support system
for the LGBTQ community?
SCARLETT: I'm excited to
be able to share my journey
and my experiences
with other people,
just so they can have
someone to relate to.
JEFFREY: Mm.
SCARLETT: Drag saved my life.
Drag was the only thing
that made me feel like
I took up space in the world
and I meant something
and I had a purpose and a voice.
SCARLETT: With this title
and with this platform,
I will be able to help
so many more people
just feel heard and feel seen.
JEFFREY: You told me
several weeks ago
that you visualized
yourself in the top three.
SCARLETT: Yeah.
JEFFREY: You manifested your ass
right in that seat right there.
SCARLETT: I did, right here,
and it's real comfy too!
SCARLETT: I am
the most deserving
in this crowd out of everybody.
I have not slipped up once.
SCARLETT: I haven't
had to lip synch once,
and I haven't been
in the bottom once,
and all those girls are making

with Jeffrey and Traci,
and we're talking
about personal stuff.
TRACI: I understand
that you were going between
your mom and dad,
and back and forth,
for part of your childhood.
How did that influence
who you are today,
and specifically
your artistry?
RITA: I was kind of between
two families always.
It was difficult,
but at the same time,
it has helped me a lot
to not rely on anybody else.
But I'm trying to open up
a little bit more
so people can get to know me.
TRACI: And you already are.
RITA: Throughout
this competition,
I realized that sometimes
it's okay to open up a little
because you don't
want to be a robot.
RITA: Until week eight,
I was front-running.
BROOKE LYNN: You are the winner
of this week's challenge.
RITA: And then whoop,
in the bottom.
And then the week after,
whoop, in the bottom again.
It did put me in
a weird place in my mind
because I was like, "Okay,
am I losing the focus?"
But now I think I should
just listen to my inner voice,
put the trust in me,
because at the end,
there's only gonna
be on winner.

TRACI: What were your
goals the first day
that you walked
into the workroom
and you took in all
its fabulousness?
RITA: At the beginning
I was like,
"Oh, it's Toronto-oriented.
"There's a lot of
queens from Toronto."
As a French speaker,
I was like,
"Oh, I'm never gonna make it,"
and then I made it.
I'm very proud to be
French Canadian.
I'm very proud to be from
Montreal, specifically,
so I want to bring
the crown home.
This is what I want to do.
I'm just visualizing the moment,
you know, they call my name,
the winner of the very first
season of Canada's Drag Race.
RITA: You don't have to speak
English to be a good drag.
You don't have to be loud
to be a good drag.
To be a good drag, you have
to stay true to who you are,
and to showcase
your art in general,
and this is what I do.
RITA: I'm committed.
I shaved my hair.
I glued everything that
I can glue on my body.
TRACI: Commitment.
RITA: I've painted my
whole body several times.
I'm fully committed,
and I'm in it to win it.
JEFFREY: Well, Rita,

stepped foot into the workroom,

I woke up like this.
JEFFREY: I want to know
how being in this competition
has changed your perspective
on your own drag.
PRIYANKA: Listen,
every time I've stood up here
on this runway, I've learned
something new about myself.
I thought I came in here,
I knew Priyanka, I knew her.
I knew who Mark was,
and it wasn't until I had
my high highs and my low lows
that I truly understood
how much more
growing I had to do.
TRACI: Who is Mark,
and who is Priyanka?
PRIYANKA: I don't want
to put on a different persona
when I'm in drag.
I look a lot different,
and it's more elevated,
and I'm having a lot of fun, but
I have that same amount of fun,
and I'm just as crazy
when I'm Mark as well,
and that's what I learned here,
for sure,
because at home
I had my day job,
when I was talking about
Spongebob Squarepants,
and then coming home,
eating a quick dinner,
and then turning into Priyanka,
so there were those two
clear different worlds
that I was in.
I called myself
the Hannah Montana of Canada.
PRIYANKA: I purposely
had two Instagrams
and kept it so separate.
And at the time
I was so okay with it.
But looking back, I'm like,
"Now, why would
you go and do that?"
PRIYANKA: Here,
in the Drag Race playground,
I got to be both versions
of myself in one place
for the first time
ever in my life.
It's so cool.
PRIYANKA: I don't need
to live this double life.
Mark and Priyanka
can exist together.
PRIYANKA: Now, my dad and I have
an interesting relationship.
He doesn't know that I'm gay.
I haven't come out
to my father yet,
and it's crazy to think that
this man, who is my father,
who I love, doesn't know
anything about me doing drag,
anything about my
past relationships.
He doesn't know
that I'm on the biggest
drag stage in the world,
and that's heartbreaking
because I want him to enjoy that
for his child because I know
he'd be so proud of me.
You know?
I want to come out to my dad
and use that courage
to inspire other people.
It's like ripping
the Band-Aid off,
because I want people to do it
earlier in their lives.
PRIYANKA: I didn't get to
do this when I was a teenager.
I keep surprising myself by
all these things I'm realizing
because I came out
so late in my life.
PRIYANKA: Look how much
I learned in the past
nine or ten weeks here.
I want people to learn
lessons as they go,
so that they can just
be proud of who they are,
and live that life,
and grow, and be gay.
That's what I said to myself,
"Just be gay." [laughter]

the biggest surprise
being a part of

how intense emotionally,

One week I'm acting
in a her-itage moment,

I'm singing the national anthem.
SCARLETT: I have
grown significantly
in this competition.
I never thought I would
be able to do half the shit
I ended up doing.
SCARLETT: I sewed a cape
and I lined it with a hood,
with a lining in it.
JEFFREY: And it was good.

second-guessing myself,
and, you know, I was attaching
myself to my sisters too,
and so

a couple of weeks
to like find my footing,

a really terrible childhood,
a really bad home.
My stepfather was extremely
abusive towards myself
and my mom, and my mom
was my best friend--
my mom, my dad, my superhero--
and I don't know where
I would be without her.

TRACI: That darkness
in your childhood,
how does that influence
you being a support system
for the LGBTQ community?
SCARLETT: I'm excited to
be able to share my journey
and my experiences
with other people,
just so they can have
someone to relate to.
JEFFREY: Mm.
SCARLETT: Drag saved my life.
Drag was the only thing
that made me feel like
I took up space in the world
and I meant something
and I had a purpose and a voice.
SCARLETT: With this title
and with this platform,
I will be able to help
so many more people
just feel heard and feel seen.
JEFFREY: You told me
several weeks ago
that you visualized
yourself in the top three.
SCARLETT: Yeah.

TRACI: I understand
that you were going between
your mom and dad,
and back and forth,
for part of your childhood.
How did that influence
who you are today,
and specifically
your artistry?
RITA: I was kind of between
two families always.
It was difficult,
but at the same time,
it has helped me a lot
to not rely on anybody else.
But I'm trying to open up
a little bit more
so people can get to know me.
TRACI: And you already are.
RITA: Throughout
this competition,
I realized that sometimes
it's okay to open up a little
because you don't
want to be a robot.
RITA: Until week eight,
I was front-running.
BROOKE LYNN: You are the winner
of this week's challenge.
RITA: And then whoop,
in the bottom.
And then the week after,
whoop, in the bottom again.
It did put me in
a weird place in my mind
because I was like, "Okay,
am I losing the focus?"
But now I think I should
just listen to my inner voice,
put the trust in me,
because at the end,
there's only gonna
be on winner.
Here I am.

TRACI: What were your
goals the first day
that you walked
into the workroom
and you took in all
its fabulousness?
RITA: At the beginning
I was like,
"Oh, it's Toronto-oriented.
"There's a lot of
queens from Toronto."
As a French speaker,
I was like,
"Oh, I'm never gonna make it,"
and then I made it.
I'm very proud to be
French Canadian.
I'm very proud to be from
Montreal, specifically,
so I want to bring
the crown home.
This is what I want to do.
I'm just visualizing the moment,
you know, they call my name,
the winner of the very first
season of Canada's Drag Race.
RITA: You don't have to speak
English to be a good drag.
You don't have to be loud
to be a good drag.
To be a good drag, you have
to stay true to who you are,
and to showcase
your art in general,
and this is what I do.
RITA: I'm committed.
I shaved my hair.
I glued everything that
I can glue on my body.
TRACI: Commitment.
RITA: I've painted my
whole body several times.
I'm fully committed,
and I'm in it to win it.

how being in this competition
has changed your perspective
on your own drag.
PRIYANKA: Listen,
every time I've stood up here
on this runway, I've learned
something new about myself.
I thought I came in here,
I knew Priyanka, I knew her.
I knew who Mark was,
and it wasn't until I had
my high highs and my low lows
that I truly understood
how much more
growing I had to do.
TRACI: Who is Mark,
and who is Priyanka?
PRIYANKA: I don't want
to put on a different persona
when I'm in drag.
I look a lot different,
and it's more elevated,
and I'm having a lot of fun, but
I have that same amount of fun,
and I'm just as crazy
when I'm Mark as well,
and that's what I learned here,
for sure,
because at home
I had my day job,
when I was talking about
Spongebob Squarepants,
and then coming home,
eating a quick dinner,
and then turning into Priyanka,
so there were those two
clear different worlds
that I was in.
I called myself
the Hannah Montana of Canada.
PRIYANKA: I purposely
had two Instagrams
and kept it so separate.
And at the time
I was so okay with it.
But looking back, I'm like,
"Now, why would
you go and do that?"
PRIYANKA: Here,
in the Drag Race playground,
I got to be both versions
of myself in one place
for the first time
ever in my life.
It's so cool.
PRIYANKA: I don't need
to live this double life.
Mark and Priyanka
can exist together.
PRIYANKA: Now, my dad and I have
an interesting relationship.
He doesn't know that I'm gay.
I haven't come out
to my father yet,
and it's crazy to think that
this man, who is my father,
who I love, doesn't know
anything about me doing drag,
anything about my
past relationships.
He doesn't know
that I'm on the biggest
drag stage in the world,
and that's heartbreaking
because I want him to enjoy that
for his child because I know
he'd be so proud of me.
You know?
I want to come out to my dad
and use that courage
to inspire other people.
It's like ripping
the Band-Aid off,
because I want people to do it
earlier in their lives.
PRIYANKA: I didn't get to
do this when I was a teenager.
I keep surprising myself by
all these things I'm realizing
because I came out
so late in my life.
PRIYANKA: Look how much
I learned in the past
nine or ten weeks here.
I want people to learn
lessons as they go,
so that they can just
be proud of who they are,
and live that life,
and grow, and be gay.
That's what I said to myself,
"Just be gay." [laughter]

I am the one who won
the most maxi challenges
in this competition--
three, to be exact.
I've been doing drag
for 13 years now.
I've worked hard.
I have a great
career in Montreal.
I've always felt like
I was an outsider,
somebody special who is not as
loud as, you know, her sisters.
I am atypical,
but it's Canada,
and I know that I have
the strength and the quiet force
that it takes
to carry the flag.
I'm also the very first
Francophone to be standing
on a top three,
and I would like to win this

why should you be crowned
Canada's first drag superstar?
SCARLETT: Because I represent
such an interesting part
of the community.
I wasn't pretty enough
to be a pageant girl.
I wasn't alternative enough
to be a bad-ass girl.
I've never fit in everywhere,
and every single breath I took
on this runway,
I was able to be 100% myself,
and I'm so proud
of myself for that.
I want to give all the queer
youth the armour it will take
for them to rise above and
come to this point right here,
and I want to be here for
all the kings, the queens,
the non-binary performers, every
single alternative performer
there is, the AMAB performers,
the AFAB performers.
I want to be there.
I want to be the voice.
I want to tell them that you
can have anything you dream of
if you just put your mind to it.
I stand here ready
to take on the responsibility
of this title, and I would be
honoured to be the first ever
Canadian Drag Race superstar.

Like my drag career, I fell,

When I'm lip synching

I want people

making people feel so loved
that even if they have no one,

how I make people feel,

As somebody whose family
is from the West Indies,
I can relate to what
Priyanka's background
has provided her with,

because with that body,
and them clothes
that she be bringing
to the stage,

brat, and as a young TV host,

gotten to her head,
