The Brave (2017) s01e11 Episode Script
Grounded
1 MALE NARRATOR: Previously on "The Brave" I think I might be able to get out of here, but I might need some help.
- [GASPS.]
- You will give me everything.
I will give you nothing.
- [EXPLOSION BOOMS.]
- Jaz! I got you, I got you, you're all right.
Hannah's experience as a field officer is why I brought her here.
It gives her a perspective that you and I don't have.
Patricia outing Jaz is against the law.
It could cost her her career.
This plan requires me to paint outside the lines.
The Secretary for Political Affairs would like to speak with you.
[ALARM BLARING.]
[GUNFIRE.]
- [YELLS.]
- [GASPING.]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
- [MURMURS INDISTINCTLY.]
- You're okay.
[SPEAKS SPANISH.]
[SPEAKING SPANISH.]
[SHOUTS IN SPANISH.]
[PEOPLE GASP.]
[GUNSHOT, PEOPLE SCREAMING.]
[GUNSHOT, PEOPLE GASP.]
[PEOPLE WHIMPERING.]
[GASPS.]
[SPEAKING SPANISH.]
[CHUCKLES.]
Go get me coffee.
[GASPING.]
You're okay.
You're okay.
[MUSIC INTENSIFYING.]
[INSECTS CHIRPING AND BUZZING.]
[PENSIVE MUSIC.]
[GROANS.]
What you doing up, Jaz? You can't sleep? Sorry, I thought I was being quiet.
You know, when you have three daughters like I do, you tend to be a pretty light sleeper.
Got to be ready, willing, and able to slay monsters under the bed at the first creak of a floorboard.
What are you doing? Making some of Grandma Carter's no-fail naptime tea.
That's actually really good.
Mm-hmm.
There's There's no shame in taking him up on it, right? Top's offer to let you rotate home early.
I mean, what, we got four weeks left of this deployment anyway.
The last thing I want to do is go home.
Yeah, well, if you're gonna stay, which warms my heart, can you guys please be quiet? You're making a racket out here, I'm trying to sleep.
That's rich, coming from you.
What do you mean? - [SNORING.]
- [CHUCKLES.]
- I don't snore.
- Get out of here.
How would you know either way? - I would know if I - Why are you all up? - Why are you up? - Well, believe it or not, people speaking approximately two feet from where I sleep makes quality rest a little bit difficult.
Dude, really? You call sleep "quality rest?" No, seriously guys, just keep it down.
You don't want to wake Top up.
Oh, please.
I've known Adam for at least a decade.
That man will sleep through a jackhammer.
In fact, the only thing that'll wake him up - is probably the - [PHONE RINGING.]
[FOOTSTEPS, RINGING CONTINUES.]
- [ELECTRONIC BEEP.]
- This is Dalton.
Sorry to wake you, Captain.
Oh, don't worry about it.
Somebody already beat you to the punch.
How's Director Campbell? Officially, the suspension has chastened her and is forcing her to reexamine her priorities.
- Bahamas? - Kauai.
Where I am sure she is doing a lot of soul-searching.
Oh, that's a good choice.
Unfortunately, this is not a social call.
- We have a problem.
- You don't say.
Mari Diaz, lead hijacker.
Former FARC revolutionary commander.
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia? They signed a peace deal last year with the government and disbanded.
Yes, true, but now as civilians, they're struggling.
Mari sees herself as Robin Hood, whose duty it is to protect her people.
In the past year alone, she's led a string of violent raids against wealthy Colombian individuals and left a trail of bodies in her wake.
I crossed paths with true believers like her when I was stationed in South America.
They're the worst kind of ruthless.
Diaz is demanding $500 million U.
S.
dollars be transferred to an account in Cuba as reparations for what the Colombian government did to her people during the war.
She has 55 passengers and crew hostage, including ten U.
S.
exchange students on their way home to Texas.
Pulling off a hijacking is a pretty rare feat, post 9/11.
Yeah, how the hell did they bypass all the airport security? Local police found the bodies of three aircraft maintenance workers in an alley in MedellÃn.
The Colombian government still has not identified the fourth hijacker but presume he got on as a passenger.
- Weapons? - As maintenance workers, they were able to sneak on some pretty nasty stuff.
Fully automatic rifles, and we believe they have grenades.
All right, now, this is this mission is tailor-made for Delta or DEVGRU, so why are you calling us? Because 45 minutes ago, the Colombian Special Forces attempted a raid.
It was repelled.
Three soldiers were killed along with two hostages.
All right, so now Diaz has her backup.
But the Colombian and American governments agreed that if another raid is to be attempted, it needs to be by a small, irregular force.
Oh, well, that's us all right.
Well, if we're going into a hornet's nest on the prowl, I want one of our own people on the line with the hijackers, okay? I'm not risking our lives for some stranger knowing how or when to distract Diaz's guys.
Can do.
We'll have boots on the ground by the time you arrive.
All right, we'll get on it.
You still keep a go bag? [DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
You cannot be serious.
The brass has not cleared you for duty yet.
The brass hasn't, or you haven't? If you're trying to convince me that you're squared away by running your mouth, you're not helping your argument.
Look, do I want you to come with us? Of course I do.
But that's why we've got procedures in place, so that guys like me aren't making decisions that we're not qualified to make.
Now, I put you in harm's way and you're not ready, something happens to you I'd never forgive myself.
- [EXHALES.]
- What? For the record, this blows.
All right, once our contact gets here, Preach, Amir, I want you guys to get this fuel truck ready.
- McG, you'll be on overwatch.
- McG on overwatch? I already miss Jaz.
Hey, Preach, I'll make sure to cover you out there.
- Good-lookin'.
- Where's this local contact - anyway? - She's right here.
Miss Rivera, great to finally meet you in person.
These Toughbook cams are a poor substitute for a face-to-face.
Hannah, please, and likewise.
It's about time I get to meet the voices in my head.
Howdy, ma'am, I'm Joseph.
- [MOCKING.]
Joseph.
- That didn't take long.
That's my name.
Raisani.
- [BAG THUDS.]
- [CHUCKLING.]
- Hannah, pleasure meeting you.
- Preach.
You've saved our bacon more times than we can count.
Well, at least more times than Joseph can count.
You know, I got to say, Amir, I thought you'd be taller.
Eh, so did his mom.
[LAUGHTER.]
Height isn't everything.
No, but it's something.
- Ooh.
- [LAUGHS.]
- She gonna fit right in.
- Well, good, 'cause we got to get rolling here.
Noah went over the plan with you, right? He did.
The plan to refuel the plane's APU as an excuse to breach the cargo hold on the prowl.
That's smart.
Smart providing you can get Diaz to agree to a refuel in the first place.
Then I'll get her to agree.
All right, Hannah, you go do your thing, We'll do ours.
Hopefully 90 minutes from now, we'll all be on a company jet out of here.
See you out there.
Bye.
How's it feel to be back in the field? Not gonna lie, it feels pretty awesome.
- Lucia.
- Hannah.
- Edgar.
- Hannah.
Left to right, we've got Edgar Triana, National Police, and Lucia Santos, Ministry of Defense.
Now, they're the ones who called us, so they should be our best allies.
This is a direct line to the phones on the plane.
We've established a no-fly zone around the airport, sequestered all the media, and we have a secondary aircraft for your team should they need it.
Speaking of which, I see your team has arrived, Miss Rivera? They have.
What can you tell me about Diaz's partners? Julien and Raul Yepes.
Brothers.
They joined Diaz's FARC unit as teens, We've linked them to a dozen of her recent raids.
They live and die for her.
And this is Lalo Mahecha, We believe he is our fourth hijacker.
He boarded the plane as a passenger.
He's a little bit of a mystery.
No history of violence, no criminal record.
But we do have some anecdotal evidence that he joined Diaz's group in the past year.
Good, new to the group could help.
I might be able to sow some doubt.
[SPEAKING SPANISH.]
Hmm? - Hey - [SPEAKING SPANISH.]
forgive my colleague.
Pablo was negotiating before the raid.
- It's been a hard day.
- Okay.
Then I suggest he shut up, sit down, and get some rest, so I can go back to helping these people.
Not gonna lie, that was awesome.
Okay, looks like the APU is down to 30 minutes of fuel.
If we're gonna do this thing, now's the time.
Dalton, what's the status of your team? All right, we're about a minute out.
McG, anything we need to know? I don't know, have you ever flown Aero Azura? What do you think you're doing, nena? The passengers need water.
What if I told you this good you're trying to do was pointless? All right, Command.
That's Assault Team Alpha, standing by.
Okay, Hannah.
You're on.
Lalo! [FOOTSTEPS.]
Miss Diaz.
[SPEAKING SPANISH.]
You speak like a native, Miss Rivera.
Welcome to Colombia.
I will tell you what I told your Colombian friends.
If there's no money, there's no point in us talking.
I'm looking at the account right now, and all I see are zeros.
working on your money.
But I need time, okay? In return for that time, I'd like to offer some help.
Help? Wonderful.
If only you had offered it for the five decades the government stole our land, murdered our people, and then tricked our leaders to surrender.
You want to help? Give me the $500 million I need to feed my people.
I know your people have suffered.
I know you want to take care of them, and I am working as fast as I can to start a transfer of funds.
But in the meantime, your plane's auxiliary power unit is running out of fuel.
If that happens, you lose your lights, your air-conditioning.
The passengers will be put under additional stress, and you don't want that.
- [ENGINE TURNS OVER.]
- So let me refuel the APU.
Passengers stay calm, I can focus on getting you your money.
I'll send one man.
You can watch him drive up for yourself.
Okay, Miss Rivera.
We'll take your fuel.
One driver.
And before he passes the cockpit, he turns a full circle.
Just to make sure he doesn't have any uninvited guests.
Dalton, is there anywhere inside that truck - you and Preach can hide? - Negative.
I suggest you call it off and regroup.
Well, that's awful sweet of you, but we're already on our way.
There's no stopping now.
[SPEAKING SPANISH.]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
[ELECTRONIC BEEP.]
[ELECTRONIC BEEPING.]
Kat, I need something to write with.
Okay, I'm about to do the 360.
You guys ready for a workout? All right, let's go.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC.]
I hope he's a better driver than you are.
Yeah, I hope so too.
- [GEARS GRINDING, - BOTH SHOUT INDISTINCTLY.]
You almost ran over my foot! Might want to think again next time you tell Amir to drive.
Okay, circle complete.
Heading to drop off the cargo.
Roger that.
Hang on, Top.
Abort the breach, again I say, abort the breach.
McG, what the hell is happening? Diaz has a bomb on the plane.
[MUSIC INTENSIFYING.]
[EXHALING SHARPLY.]
Can I help you? I come bearing gifts.
Great, I'm cleared to do my job again? Sweet.
Uh, wait, are you the shrink? I'm Captain Martin.
But you can call me Xander if you prefer.
Xander? Didn't your parents like you? Oh, God, is this a thing? Like, I have to talk to you so that I can keep those? Nope.
You know, before I became a counselor, I was on a team like yours.
You don't have to do anything to earn these papers.
I read your file, I believe you're okay.
But I would like to talk to you about what happened.
If you'd like to tell me.
And if not, maybe, uh just some small talk and a cup of coffee? Coffee.
Look, I know your team is on a mission right now, and I know how much that sucks, so what do you say? Command, I need to know if this intel is good.
If there's a bomb on this plane and we breach this cabin, chances are we all end up in a fine pink mist.
We're on it.
Okay, look, zoom in to the degradation point.
Do a color split.
[KEYBOARD CLACKING.]
[ELECTRONIC BEEPING.]
Okay, look, we got a hand and a sleeve.
Nail polish, so it's a woman probably.
Reframe the sleeve.
Looks like some kind of monogram.
Something troubling you, Miss Rivera? [EXHALES.]
Yeah.
Diaz.
She wants the funds wired to an account in Cuba.
That makes sense, she knows anybody in her organization can access it from there.
Cuba's friendly to revolutionaries, right? But she lands the jet here.
In Colombia.
Where she's less safe.
[EXHALES.]
I'm missing something.
We've been after Mari Diaz for years.
Both Edgar and myself.
She's always had a God complex.
When she was with FARC, she demanded total loyalty.
And she sacrificed her own people like cattle when it served her.
She landed the plane here to make a statement.
That I promise you.
Okay, we've got an idea on the note-writer.
Elena Bernal.
She's one of the flight attendants.
35, born in Dallas, Texas.
Typical suburban childhood.
No reason to doubt her, but nothing to indicate that she would risk her life to help, either.
Well, you never know when somebody's gonna be a hero.
I've seen the toughest agents crack like dry straw, and I've seen ordinary people be so strong it brings tears to your eyes.
Boss, I thought you were in Kauai.
Yes.
You are brilliant, but you have to do something about your gullible side.
Technically, I'm still on suspension for the next four hours, so just consider me your adviser.
Great.
That doesn't add any pressure at all.
- Pork rind? - Love one.
[SIGHS.]
Tell them the information's good.
There's a bomb on the plane.
Son of a bitch.
- Think it's the cargo hold? - No.
My money is, they wired it up through the avionics bay.
Okay, guys, refueling's done.
If I don't go back in the next few minutes, I'm gonna start to look suspicious.
All right, want you to take Amir and McG, I want you guys to go into the far end of the airport, work me up a three-man breach.
Assume four tangos, two in the front, two in the aft.
Get that under ten seconds.
Yeah, but, Top, bomb like this, I mean, depending on what kind it is, don't you think it be wise to let me defuse it? No.
I don't.
I'm the master EOD tech.
Yeah, but we both know I've got ten years' experience - in disposal operations - Okay, that may be the case.
You also have three kids.
Respect.
But putting our lives on the line is what we do.
So that's not really a great reason for you - to take the lead on this.
- No.
Yeah, maybe not, but it is one hell of a tiebreaker.
Besides, you're always telling me how SEALS are the premier breachers, blah, blah, blah.
We all know they're just water boys for Delta.
So why don't you go prove me wrong? You're on.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
[WOMAN GASPS.]
[ENGINE REVVING.]
Heading back to base.
Let's hope she doesn't make us do another 360.
- [GRUNTS.]
- Noah, we have a problem.
A big problem.
You mean besides the bomb? Actually, I mean because of it.
Think about it.
If Diaz has a bomb, why not tell us? Why keep it a secret? There's only one explanation.
She's gonna set it off.
That's why she landed here at the capital, to make a statement.
Once she knows the money has been wired to that account, she's gonna blow up that plane, with herself and all the hostages in it.
In her twisted mind, it'll serve as a battle cry for her people and all but guarantee she's remembered as a legend.
Hannah's right.
Mari wants to be a martyr.
[SIGHING.]
Well, that's just great.
- Man down! - [GUNFIRE ON TELEVISION.]
Watch out! - Reload, reload! - [EXPLOSION BOOMS.]
Flank left! Flank This really isn't the small talk and coffee I was expecting.
You know I'm not about to have a heart-to-heart with you.
Well, then, at least let me play? - Move in! Move in! - [GUNFIRE.]
Come on.
- Oh, yeah.
- Second player All right, let's light this candle.
- On my six! - [GUNFIRE.]
- What do I do? - [LAUGHS.]
[GUNFIRE.]
Clear! - What do we got? - [EXHALES AND PANTS.]
23.
4 seconds.
Yeah, that's not gonna cut it.
Top, it's at 23.
4, we'll get it in under 10.
Yeah, well, getting it under one second isn't gonna matter if I can't get at this thing and disarm it.
I could just rip this cover off, but chances are we'll all go up in smoke, so [EXHALES.]
[TENSE MUSIC.]
You guys seeing that? Receiving fiber-scope imagery now.
HRT is analyzing.
How's it look? Beyond it being armed? Give us a beat.
Do you really think Diaz is on a suicide mission? I do.
Perhaps, if I'm not out of line to suggest it, you should pull your people out.
At least until we get a foolproof plan.
[PHONE RINGS.]
Here we go.
- [SIGHS.]
- [RINGING CONTINUES.]
- Mari? - I know what you did.
With the fuel truck.
Clever.
[EXHALES.]
I checked the gauge.
You only gave us enough fuel to last a few hours.
That way, every few hours, you can bargain.
Well, how about this instead? When the fuel runs out, I kill your ten college students.
It's not as clever as what you tried, but I prefer force over finesse.
[BEEPING.]
Tell her to stop calling.
You need to stop calling.
Wait.
Lalo? This is Lalo, right? You know my name? Of course I know your name.
I know a lot about you, I even know your hometown.
Florencia? I used to visit family there when I was younger.
You have to stop calling.
I also know you didn't expect for this to be so complicated, did you? Or for innocent people to actually get hurt? I said you have to stop calling.
Lalo, listen to me.
You have to open your eyes.
Mari is not who you think she is.
[EXHALES.]
Lalo, she's planned everything so carefully.
Right? Down to the last detail.
Ask Mari about her escape plan.
Hey, what are you doing? Hang up! Hang up now! She can't be trusted.
Only I can.
Mari Yes, love? [SPEAKS SPANISH.]
[STRAINED.]
Okay.
[EXHALES.]
That's all the screws out of the cover plate.
Okay.
Master tech at HR is saying that you can remove the panel.
However, there is a mercury tilt switch attached to the back side.
So you have got to keep the panel horizontal until you break the switch.
Tilt the panel more than 3 degrees All right.
Why don't you get down here and do this, Noah? Right.
Okay.
[SIGHS.]
[METAL CREAKS.]
Okay, panel is tilting 2 degrees right, Dalton.
Your right or my right? [LAUGHS.]
How does he laugh at a time like this? Because it keeps me from crying.
That's how.
Okay.
Cutting wire one.
[TENSE MUSIC.]
Okay, cutting wire two.
Here we go.
All right, that's the mercury switch cut.
[EXHALES.]
Let's see what we're dealing with here.
Oh, wow.
Hannah's right.
That bomb's overkill.
Diaz is going out and she wants to do it in a blaze of glory.
Well, let's make sure her trigger doesn't work.
I'm gonna whiff these antennas.
[PHONE BEEPS.]
Hello? Lalo, you're not a killer.
No, but I am.
And if this phone rings again, I will kill the Americans on board and drop them out the door.
From now on, this is a one-way line.
Got it, Miss Rivera? When I call you next, I expect an update on the money.
[MACHINE CHIRPING.]
That's the remote detonator disabled.
Now she can't blow this thing from up there.
Wait.
[MACHINE CHIRPING.]
[ELECTRONIC BEEPING.]
[FOREBODING MUSIC.]
Hey, Preach.
Have you ever seen a signal trigger a mechanical secondary? Yeah, I've heard of 'em.
FARC used to wire them into their explosives.
Yeah, well, that information would have been real helpful five minutes ago.
All right, how are the drills going? We still haven't hit ten seconds yet.
Yeah, well, I still don't have a way of keeping Diaz from blowing this bomb.
So it sounds like we're both failing miserably.
[GRUNTS.]
[PHONE RINGING.]
[PHONE BEEPS.]
What? Raul.
When? [SPEAKS SPANISH.]
[PHONE BEEPS.]
[SPEAKING SPANISH.]
Said you were on a team.
What happened? Did you j-Some Syrian asswipe fromtook a shot at me.
I forgot to duck.
[EXHALES.]
Yeah.
Lucky to be alive.
Although for the first year, you couldn't have convinced me of that if you tried.
I felt sorry for myself.
And then finally one day I realized, it was It was like in that movie "Shawshank.
" I had to get busy living or get busy dying.
So I decided helping people like myself was the best way to stay sane.
[ELECTRONIC GUNFIRE.]
Did they hurt you? I read the debrief.
I'm not asking a piece of paper; I'm asking you.
I'm a survivor, Jaz, I know.
I know no matter how well you got through it, there's something that got you.
Maybe not then, maybe it's now.
But the thing is, better to say it out loud now to me than let it haunt you.
So? What is it that is haunting you? I'm terrified that I could lose them.
[SOMBER MUSIC.]
All right, I'm gonna attack the blasting caps.
You do what you got to do to get under ten seconds.
Roger that.
[TENSE MUSIC.]
You know, being grabbed, being tortured, I [EXHALES SHARPLY.]
I can handle that.
My dad hated me from the second I was born a girl.
But, um When my guys came and rescued me That was the first time anyone came to help you.
First time in your whole life.
[WHISPERS.]
Yep.
[METAL CREAKS AND CLANGS.]
[FOOTSTEPS TAPPING.]
[WHISPERING.]
Command, there's somebody down here.
[SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC.]
How is that possible? I don't know.
I haven't made a sound.
Our coms are a closed loop.
Somebody on the ground must be talking to them.
[FLASHLIGHT RATTLES.]
[MUFFLED GRUNTING.]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
[GRUNTS.]
Okay, Preach, I'm about two minutes away from neutralizing these caps.
The problem is, we're three minutes away from Diaz wondering what happened to the guy that I just deep-sixed.
We got to breach this plane now.
Roger that.
You might lose them, Jaz.
You know that now, I mean in your gut.
And I get that is the worst feeling in the world.
It's like It's like falling but hitting no bottom.
So what do you do? You get used to it.
A little each day.
And maybe you find a way to think about the other side.
Anytime you find yourself scared you might lose 'em, focus on how lucky it is to have 'em.
That's what I do.
Yeah.
Thanks.
No charge.
It will pass, soldier.
And if it doesn't, you know where to find me.
Hey, um Don't take it personally.
No one beats me.
We'll see.
[CHUCKLES.]
[SIGHS.]
[SPEAKING SPANISH.]
[PHONE BEEPS.]
[SPEAKING SPANISH.]
- Pronto.
- Bueno.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
My team will come at the plane from here, approaching under the tail.
That way, the hijackers have no line of sight.
Then they'll cross under the fuselage and use boarding ladders on the forward cargo and passenger doors.
[DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
[PHONE BEEPS.]
[SPEAKING SPANISH.]
[SPEAKS SPANISH.]
[SPANISH, DID YOU FIND IT?.]
[SPEAKING SPANISH.]
No, no, no, no! [PEOPLE GASPING AND EXCLAIMING.]
[ELECTRONIC BEEP.]
[MUFFLED EXPLOSION.]
All right, Preach.
Go for breach.
All right, here we come.
[PEOPLE MURMURING.]
[LADDERS BANGING.]
[DRAMATIC MUSIC.]
[GUNFIRE.]
[PEOPLE SCREAMING.]
[GUNFIRE.]
[SLOW-MOTION GUNSHOTS.]
[GRUNTS.]
[GUNFIRE.]
No, no, no, no! Don't shoot! - Lalo, you traitor! - Don't! [GUNSHOT.]
[GUNSHOTS.]
[PEOPLE GASPING AND MURMURING.]
All right, all clear.
We're all clear.
[PANTING.]
You guys missed all the fun.
Looks like the distraction worked.
Yeah, it was perfect.
All right, Hannah.
Threat's neutralized.
- Starting MACO.
- [SIGHS.]
Copy that, threat is neutralized! [CHEERS AND APPLAUSE.]
[INSPIRING MUSIC.]
- That bitch was crazy.
- So I heard.
- How are you feeling? - Feeling a little dazed.
How bad is it? You got a gash in your head.
It's not so bad, a couple stitches.
We'll take you to the hospital.
Let me get one of those.
Might want to take it easy on the vodka, though.
I'm not supposed to drink on duty.
But I think I just clocked out.
[BOTTLES CLINK.]
[CHUCKLES LIGHTLY.]
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
I should really thank you! Oh, you're welcome, Miss Rivera, but it was you and your team that made it happen.
Well, the raid might not have been the success that it was if you hadn't been feeding Mari the bad info.
You know, I've been thinking there might have been a traitor ever since the first Colombian raid went bad.
'Cause how could Diaz be so smart? Logic: she had someone on the outside.
[GRUNTS.]
[SIGHS.]
[AMBULANCE SIREN BLARES.]
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
[SPEAKING SPANISH.]
Gracias.
[SPEAKING SPANISH.]
Gracias, señora.
- Hey.
- Hey.
- You got your man, huh? - Did you doubt that I would? [CHUCKLES.]
Not for a second.
Does this make me an honorary member of the club? No, full-fledged.
I'm sure we got a plaque lying around somewhere we can get you.
- [LAUGHS.]
Good.
- So back to D.
C.
? Back to D.
C.
For now at least.
So you want my job? Mm, technically, I have your job.
For about five more minutes.
Mm.
It suits you, you know.
Okay, now I'm scared.
Don't worry.
I'm not going anywhere but my office.
- I could use a raise, though.
- Predictable.
[LAUGHTER.]
- Oh! - Whoo-hoo-hoo! - Ah! - [LAUGHS.]
[FLAMES CRACKLING.]
Hey, so he cleared you already, huh? Mm-hmm, said I'm as good as new.
Man, I'm really happy to have you back, Jaz.
Mainly because it was Amir's turn on overwatch next.
And it was making me really nervous to think about him pointing any gun in my direction, no? - [LAUGHTER.]
- Come on, man.
You know my aim is true.
Yeah, well, I'll bet you a big-faced Benjamin you don't hit that stake.
- You're on, Preach.
- Show him proof.
[ENERGETIC MUSIC.]
- [HORSESHOE CLINKS.]
- Boom! - Ohh! - [LAUGHING.]
Pure luck.
It's good to have you back.
Amir.
Double or nothing, nine ball, right now.
- All right.
- Oh, he's game.
I'm about to make some money.
I'm down 100, y'all better let me get a piece of that action.
Let's go.
Xander's good people, yeah? You know him? We're well acquainted.
You know what, in our line of work I think experience It comes at a pretty steep cost.
I was in Fallujah in the fall of '04.
And the op tempo was so high.
And we couldn't even keep track of the numbers that we were racking up.
By that time, I mean, I had spilled so much blood.
You get a taste for it, you know? [SOMBER MUSIC.]
My CSM had to pull me off of some asshole whose throat I'd just slit 'cause he killed one of my friends.
And it wasn't enough that I killed him.
You know, I wanted to take his head, and I wanted to hang it on a wall, over my rack.
I lost sight of what made me better than them.
I don't I don't know if, um If we have to have a dark side to do what we do, Jaz.
But I know that I met mine.
And, uh no matter what I do That guy never goes away.
