Regrets Always Lie in the Past

1
There are countless number
of video games in this world.
However, most of them
gets buried under many others.
Standing atop of those many titles
is this Full-Dive VR game that has
over thirty million players worldwide.
The game that earned
the reputation of being a god-tier game,
Shangri-La Frontier.
The boy who loves trash game,
Rakuro Hizutome
challenges the god-tier game,
Shangri-La Frontier!
What kind of adventure
awaits him in his path?
I throw away my defense
and put on my bird mask headgear
I'm a hustler
My point only goes to my luck stats
Parry parry
now this is my style
playing broken games all night
who's that knight?
Broken game is sickness
toxic scattered, now I'm a patient
My heart is beating almost twice as fast
The chaos wither get it bite that bug
Terrible gimmick
new game a.k.a suicide??
I don't give a damn
(Do it, Do it)
No, not yet NO it's not enough
(Do it, Do it) NO it's not enough
I still can go
Everyone looks dirty to me
Everything looks broken to me
we can go, we can go
to that mountain top, not afraid to drop
this world is going to be mine duh
(Regret Always Lies in the Past)
Well then, let's discuss our strategy.
(Regret Always Lies in the Past)
The first hurdle in Wethermon battle
Right after the battle starts,
all characters in the area
except Wethermon
will be affected by a skill that
caps your level down to 50.
Level cap at 50?
So that what you mean by
level not being a problem?
Wethermon's level is 200.
200?!
Which means, we're forced
to fight an enemy 150 level higher.
That's why gaming skill is a key factor.
Isn't that good for
low level guys like you two?
Since you don't have to grind
to get to the level cap.
That said
Being below level 50
is out of question.
So go ahead and grind
those level up, okay?
Level 50, huh.
She said there's a hidden area
in this ruin that's good for grinding,
but how long will this take?
We won't know until we try.
It's like being in an entirely
different game.
There are a lot of black panels
floating around!
Those moving objects can be fun
when they bugged out, aren't they?
You really need to
take those eyeballs off
and have that
"trash game" filter washed off.
But hey, no wonder
this place feels familiar!
This is like the final boss stage
from Brave Galaxy Fighter!
Sorry, never heard of that.
It's a world-famous
sci-fi fighting game
though guess you won't care, huh?
You think I would know
anything about a god-tier game?
By the way, Katzo-kun,
how old are you right now?
You mean my level?
Oh, dear! You're still in your twenty?
How young!
By the way, I'm 31.
That's barely a difference!
So you mean OiKatzo-san is frail
and you're worried about her?
You're so clever, Emul.
No, I'm not!
Hey, stop giving her the wrong idea!
Sunraku-san!
Something's coming down our way!
(Suppression Drone
Type: Pyramid)
There are enemies among
these floating panels?
You can stay out of this one, Sunraku!
Even when you're at a low level
SLF still gives you a chance!
Are you sure you don't need
to help her?
Nah, I'm sure he'll be fine.
Repel Counter!
What a simple movement.
Is this meant for practicing counters?
Crush Uppercut!
Oh! In one hit!
She's a good fighter!
Is that red aura some kind of buff?
Yeah.
It's called "Spirit Fist: Red."
It apply bonus to my strength and vitality.
My job is "Monk" and I use "Spirit Fist."
In exchange for not
being able to equip weapons,
I get to punch my enemies directly
with tons of buffs!
What's your build?
With a heavy lean on HP and vitality
I guess you can call it
a "light fighter" build.
A build that consider taking damage
into the calculation, huh.
"Kill before getting killed."
Just what I expect coming from
a fighting game player like you.
By the way, I'm
No need to say it.
I can tell.
I bet you're a glass canon that went
all out on strength and agility.
Boo-boo!
I'm a "luck fighter" that lean
on agility and luck! Hohoho!
You're still a glass canon nonetheless!
His Vorpal Soul is at full force!
Vorpal Soul? What's that?
V-Vorpal Soul is Vorpal Soul!
Let's see here.
So we can go to the hidden area
from the floor up ahead.
Walk through the left side
of a plate with a hole in it
Jump over a crack.
Get on a beat up-looking plate
move to the space between
B2 and B3
and keep going.
The guy who discovered this must be nuts.
What kind of brain must you have
to discover this route?
Or more like, wasn't it Pencilgon who did?
I suppose that's totally
in character for her.
This place is like a maze.
Lastly, dive into the hole
I can't see the bottom.
You don't think this is some kind of plan
to elaborately assassinate us both, right?
If it is, then she better atone for it.
Atone?!
My dad ahem, my boss says
atonement is important too!
Yeah, I'll bet.
We don't know what's down below,
and we can't exactly have a glass canon
like Sunraku to go first.
What?
I'll go check it out, then.
Thanks.
She's not only kind,
but also strong and brave.
She's such a cool lady.
Huh?
Oh!
He's a dude.
Huh?
I mean, on the inside
Er, wait, I mean
He's a girl on the outside,
but he's a guy on the inside.
Wh-What a mystery of life!
Yeah, we live in a big world.
He's saying something.
I can't hear him well.
At least it doesn't seem like
some assassination prank.
He said, "Get down here, you bum!"
You're on, dude!
I'm gonna kill you, you bastard!
There you are.
It wasn't as steep as it look, wasn't it?
Whoa!
So this is the hidden area
Pencilgon talked about?
She said we can catch a monster named
"Lifestide Lake Serpent" in this lake.
Apparently it gives a lot of EXP.
Can you even catch monsters
with this fishing pole?
Well, let's give it a try.
'Kay!
Let's compete on who
gets to catch the most fish.
Oh, got one right away!
Whoa, fast.
My dad used to take me out
on a fishing trip a lot.
I know all about fishing.
You just got lucky
thanks to your luck stat.
You got me.
(Lifestide Salmon)
A salmon
Not the one we're looking for.
Looks tasty, though.
Oh, I got one too!
I bet it's just another salmon.
Yeah, it doesn't look too big.
Wanna change spots?
Sunraku-san!
It's a huge snake!
Katzo! This is the one!
A Lifestide Lake Serpent!
Well then, now's the time
to test out my new weapon!
Huh?
Weren't your level too low to
equip that Moonblade thingy?
I never said
I only had one weapon made.
Their name is Empire Bee Twinblades!
Yay! So cool!
What? You had another new weapon?
Bee-neechan made it!
Bee?
It's complete!
Twinblades made from parts
of an Empire Queen Bee
Empire Bee Twinblades!
Hey! Whatcha' laying down for!
Oh, that was fast. Done already?
Um, Bilac.
As fast as always, Bee-neechan.
Ya looking down on me
just 'cuz boss left already?!
Just so you know, boss is the one
who taught me everything I know!
No, no. I didn't mean that.
You're a great help!
I was worried for a second there after
I can't use my main weapon anymore.
Do I have to make nice with other rabbits,
not just Vash and Emul?
I didn't go here to play some dating sims!
Wait, after thinking that
I'll have to maintain good relationship
with possibly many other
rabbit going forward
Huh? What's the matter, Sunraku-san?
My trauma from playing all those
horrible dating sims is coming back!
There was one time I had
to engineer my relationship
with twelve girls
all at the same time
Just one bad move, and
all their love meters would
go down one after another,
like a domino effect
And for whatever reason,
I'd get a bad ending where
all the girls would go to Italy
to master making pizza
What?
The heck ya talkin' bout?
Thus Sunraku Picklefish lost out
to a pile of pizza dough
Well, more importantly,
these weapons!
Empire Bee Twinblades
They're looking real good!
Of course.
So cool!
Good thing I went back to fetch those
queen's parts after the Quad Beetle fight.
Ain't a bad set, is it?
The right blade's
got a pretty unique attribute.
The right blade?
(Spiral Edge)
Isn't this thing kinda too tough?
Our low-level strikes
hardly deal any damage!
Certain weapons, skills, magic,
and monster attacks
has a so-called "corrode" attribute
that can even destroy an avatar's body.
It's an attribute that can destroy
body parts or create weak points
by applying concentrated damage
on a destroyed section.
But what that weapon's got ain't
your garden-variety corrode.
It can contaminate the struck section
and destroy it from the inside.
A Corrosive Poison.
Over time, it will build up corrosion
in the target's body like a poison.
And of course, if you repeatedly
apply the corrosive poison
it will break through
the enemy's debuff resistance
and hastening the corrosion!
I peeled off its scale, Katzo!
Roger that! I will smash it at full force!
Spirit Fist:
Black!
Nice! Now it got a sweet weak point!
I-I will help out too!
Emul!
Katzo!
My character is build
to withstand some damage, after all.
I can tank this much!
Th-Thank you!
Repel Counter!
Way to go!
Time to whale away at it!
- Yeah!
- Got it!
- I'll flay you alive! - Magic Edge!
- Rabbit's minced attack!
Woohoo!
We did it!
Hell yeah!
Whoa! I leveled up already!
These EXP rates are real sweet.
Man, it was pretty tough.
I went up four levels in one go.
Oh, I got new skills, too.
I wonder if they're the type
I can Link in Skill Garden.
Hm? Linking skills?
Talking about some other game again?
Huh?
Huh?
Huh?
No, no. SLF is all about the skills.
Linking skills you learned to make
combo skills is the core gameplay loop!
Combo?
They said so in the tutorial
in Firstia, remember?
Firstia I didn't go there.
What?
You can link together skills
that has proficiency stat
in a facility called "Skill Garden."
By doing so, you can create
a new combo skill.
P-Proficiency?!
Right, I was wondering why there
are skills that evolve like Repel Counter
evolving to Flash Counter,
and skills that has level after it.
So you can link together
the latter type?!
In Skill Garden, you can learn how close
a skill is to level up or evolve,
and the conditions required
to learn a skill. It's super vital.
They also sell grimoires, and
Sunraku-san, are you okay?
Could it be you don't even know
about sub-jobs and guilds?
Urgggh!
Just how much did I miss
from skipping one city?!
Ugh, screw this!
Thinking about the past
just gonna make me feel worse!
Let's continue grinding!
The best thing to do at a time like this is
to turn our brain off and do simple work!
Let's hunt more of those giant eel thingy,
Katzo, Emul!
Y-Yessir!
Man, he went off
and turn his brain off.
Wow.
Level 42 and 40
That's a lot of progress
in such a short time.
You sure you're not forcing yourself?
Did something happen?
Well, hear this,
Sunraku skipped the tutorial, so
Fine, fine. Mouth shut.
Man, you can't believe how hard
Emul-chan can hit.
I'm tired.
My Emul here is actually level 56.
Oh?
Still, this tent is hella useful.
Although the thing itself is simple,
you can build a save point with this?
It cost an arm and a leg,
but you can only use it for several times,
so it's not all that good.
I wouldn't bust this out so readily
if we weren't pressed for time.
C'mon, don't just sit there
and let's go.
Go?
To where?
We can only meet up during a full moon.
Meet who?
We need to talk to her in order
to fight Wethermon the Tombguard.
A Unique NPC.
"Setsuna of Bygone Days."
Setsuna.
The wish let out
in between the moments.
About those blurred,
invisible distant days
I scream in envy so much it hurts
I cry that this is where it ends
It's going to change, I'll change it
I don't want to think
it's impossible anymore
The goal I set up is now
the starting line for me to run again
Hit me with that despair, it excites me
Telling me give it a go
I should be able to go as far as I want,
yet I mistake this to be my limit
Is getting an easy win
sometimes necessary?
It exhilarate me,
telling me to give it a go
I have a dream,
so even my complaints is not a joke
I scream in envy so much it hurts
I cry that this is where it ends
It's going to change, I'll change it,
I don't want to think
it's impossible anymore
I don't mind breaking if I can move on
I hate giving up even more
I'm going to make it come true,
make it a reality, I'm always serious
Make it so I'm only
a little away from obtaining it
Let me ace this even if it burns me
SLF Theater!
(#17 Animalia Exploration
~ The Prismatic Forest's Monster-Bird,
"Bunny-Eared Shoebill" does exist! ~)
Prismatic Forest Grotto.
Right now, there's one peculiar
rumor concerning the place.
An unidentified monster-bird,
"Bunny-Eared Shoebill"!
Does this legendary monster-bird
truly exist?
(Animalia Exploration Team)
(Prismatic Forest's Monster-Bird)
("Bunny-Eared Shoebill" does exist)
An unidentified monster-bird
With our experience
surveying animal,
we must find this
majestic creature!
Chief! Look at this!
Is this the footprint of
Bunny-Eared Shoebill?
This looks more like
a human's than a bird's.
Following the footprints,
the team went deeper into the forest.
That's when they hear it!
Chief! This cry!
There's no mistaking it!
This is Bunny-Eared Shoebill's!
The extraordinary cry
shook the entire forest.
That's when they see it!
There it is! Let's chase it!
Yes, ma'am!
They failed to capture
the creature's figure on picture.
However, it is now clear that
the Bunny-Eared Shoebill does exist!
Their desperate search yielded no result,
and nobody managed to get
a clear picture of the creature.
Even so, Animalia Exploration Team's
search continues.
For the day they successfully
find the unknown creature.
Man, it was so funny when you
got blown away by that huge beetle.
Gosh, I thought I was dead for real.
Really was!
I was scared to death!
