Vanished (2006) s01e12 Episode Script
The Velocity Of Sara
Previously on Vanished Judge Rainer has been confirmed as the 111th Supreme Court justice of the United States.
You did what they wanted.
That's right.
So Sara's coming home? Yes.
I was contacted by a confidential informant.
He claims that they are holding on to Sara.
Why? Maybe they want something more from you.
I'd like to talk to you about your daughter.
We've got nothing to say to you.
Is everything okay? - Is that Nikki's daughter? - She's our daughter.
Helicopters have pinpointed several underground heat sources.
I think we found Sara.
Whoa, whoa, hold it, hold it.
I think you've been looking for me.
I'm I'm Sara Collins.
Good God almighty.
You really are her.
You're Sara Collins.
It's all right.
It's all right.
- Howard, get me a blanket.
- Yes, sir.
- I want to go home.
- I know, I know.
You're going to be okay.
Sit right here.
Watch your feet.
Now cover up.
You'll be all right.
This is Shelton to dispatch.
Answer the damn call.
Dispatch to Shelton, what you got? I need you to track down the FBI agents handling the Sara Collins case.
I want it done in immediately.
Good.
They swear it's coffee, I'm not so sure.
Thanks.
I expanded the grid search another 10 miles.
4 more search and rescue teams are hitting the ground now.
The county authorized their overtime, so they are good until we say so.
Right.
Why don't you go get a few hours of sleep? With all this adrenaline, I couldn't sleep if I wanted to.
Where the hell is she? You just relax.
We're going to get you to Multry in a couple of minutes.
We're just waiting on the call now, from the FBI.
Your husband came through during his last campaign.
We took good care of him, and we're going to take good care of you.
Everything is going to be fine.
It's not going to be fine, okay? I don't want to go and you can't make me.
Yes we can.
We've got a court order that says so.
Just let me go back to school, mom! They don't want you.
You can't disappear for two weeks Sara, you scared the life out of everyone.
It was a mistake! You're out of control.
You're going to the treatment center, that's the end of it.
I want to talk to dad, dad would never make me go there.
Your father's the one who wrote the check.
Shelton here.
This is Special Agent Daniel Lucas.
The man at the field office said it was urgent.
I got her.
I'm sorry? Sara Collins.
We found her.
Agent Lucas? Yeah, I'm here, I'm sorry, you just caught me by surprise.
This is great news, put her on the phone please.
FBI.
Hello? Sara? Yes.
This is Special Agent Daniel Lucas, how are you doing? I am I don't even know what day it is.
Yet.
Well, you know what, that's okay, you're safe now, I'm coming to get you, can you sit tight, can you do that? Yes.
Yeah, good.
Okay, we'll meet you back at Multry.
No, you listen to me, I don't want her speaking to anyone until I get there, you got that? We'll be there in less than 10 minutes.
Copy that.
Oh my God.
I know it's a protocol breach, but should we contact the senator? No, not until we get her in custody, this is one notification I'll be happy to give in person.
Hey, let's go! It's all right, right through here.
Ma'am? It's good to see you, really good.
Go on and get her some of that soup, nice and hot.
Right in here.
Just come over here and make yourself comfortable.
Here, take this in case you get cold.
Thank you.
Can I use the telephone, please? That's going to have to wait until agent Lucas gets here, but if there's anything else you need, just holler alright? Okay.
I'm sorry, I just have plastic.
We'll be right outside if you need anything, alright? Come on.

In there.
We got a signal.
She's on the move, let's go.
All right, lock down the street.
Yes sir.
She's tagged.
We can pick her up once she's cleared.
Sheriff? Mei.
Sara? Sara? Check the back.
Damnit! They must have got her! We were 10 minutes away and we lost her! How the hell did this happen? How did they know where she was? Maximum range on a chopper is 350 miles.
Contact the FAA and tell them that we want eyeballs on every airfield in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida! Have a seat, Mr.
Manning, I've got your DNA results.
I don't need to sit really, I'll just take them.
You spent $382, you might as well get your money's worth.
Here's the deal.
10 years looking at people's genes, I could hit you with a suitcase full of $40 words, and enough science to make your ears bleed.
But the truth is, only one thing I know for sure.
What's that? You can wish and fight, and sue.
But there's no easy way to get yourself into or out of a child's life.
You should think that over before you do anything about these results.
That girl you had tested? She's your daughter.
Lucas.
110 airfields within range, we fax-alerted all of them.
Multry P.
D.
's got jurisdiction on the sheriff's station homicides.
All right.
I'll get Washington to send a crisis team.
Airfield in Macon County called in a possible hit on your chopper.
Security guy got a photo on his cell phone just as the plane was taking off.
I can't even tell it's a helicopter, let alone who was on board.
The good news is even though the human eye reads black as black, the computer doesn't.
It can identify over 300 different shades.
Where does that get us? Everything in this picture is on the darker side of the grayscale.
So I'm going to blow up the scale, recalibrate so that we make the lighter blacks white and leave only the darkest ones black.
Is that going to work? I'll tell you in a second.
"Good Hamlet, cast thy knighted color off!" We are still only getting the first three digits of the N-number.
- Log in to the FAA database.
- You got it.
All right, there's one tailpipe.
Eliminate twin engines.
Well, we are getting there.
This may be a long shot, because my entire fund of chopper knowledge comes from flight simulator, but does that look like a jet Ranger to you? Yes it does.
4-passenger.
There we go.
All right, bring up the registration.
Roke Distributors, Blue Ridge Radio, Encompass Holdings, Brodwin Management, Mica Medical.
Good work.
Put a bulletin out for all of them.
We going to get her back, Lucas.
I am.
Got your 911, what's up? Max Collins spent the last couple of weeks telling everyone who would listen how much he loves his stepmom.
And? We found this in the bunker.
She doesn't belong in our family.
Who, Max? My stepmom, Sara.
She should just go back to the trailer park in Florida or wherever, and maybe things can go back to the way they used to be.
Life changes, you have to adapt.
No.
One day my dad's going to realize there's only one reason why she's with him.
And what's that? Money.
Does that sound to you like a loving stepson? Looks like Max has been holding out on us.
Welcome back to the fishbowl.
How was your stay at grandpa's? I got to drive a Porsche.
I'm glad you're back.
Me too.
Your brother told me about the baby.
How are you doing? The bleeding stopped.
It's all gone.
How is Ben taking it? I don't even know where he is.
He'll be back.
Jessica.
Max, welcome home.
So, Nina made up the guest room, so why don't you to help your mother with the bags? Senator, sorry to interrupt.
We'll talk a little later on, all right? Actually Senator, we'd like to talk to Max's.
I'm so sick of her schoolteacher charity crap.
My mom didn't come from a wealthy family, but at least she's got class.
Max, what is this? Just turn it off.
Then we could be happy.
Jeff, listen to your son, do something.
There's more.
I hate her.
I want her gone.
Just turn it off! Mei.
How can you say these things? Sara called me on my drinking.
It pissed me off, okay? Once I got clean I got better, I got over it.
I love her.
You've got to believe that.
When did you make this tape, Max? It's a venting session.
It's part of my rehab at Encompass.
One of those helicopters, it's registered to Encompass Holdings.
I'll put a call to the FAA.
What helicopter? It's a possible lead.
When I know more I'll fill you in.
Right now I want to know more about that tape.
You're not in trouble Max, I just need a little background.
Okay? The woman talking, who is she.
She was my counselor.
Does she got a name? Quinn Keeler.
We arrested Quinn over a week ago.
Why didn't you say something? I don't know.
- That's not good enough, Max! - Stop it! Quinn stopped by our house while you were guys were in Washington, a week before she disappeared.
Did she drop in out of nowhere? No, she always kept in touch.
She told me she wanted to make sure I stayed clean.
She asked me a lot of questions.
What kind of questions? About your life.
Sara's schedule.
What you did, who you saw.
You're a senator, a lot of people ask How much did you tell her Max? I told her everything.
Oh, Max.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
How did that happen, Jeffrey? I don't know.
I'll let Max cool down for a few minutes, then I'll talk to him.
That's not what I meant.
How could you send him to that place? It came highly recommended.
By whom? Our son needed help, and you weren't here.
You did not get a vote.
I don't want to vote.
I want an explanation.
You saw that tape.
How does getting in touch with your anger stop you from drinking? Did you ask them that? I'm not sure of the details of the treatment plan.
- He was a 14 year old child.
- I know.
- What were you thinking? - I wasn't! I have worked with troubled kids before okay? Give me a break! Just have a look at this.
I'm not sending him off to some boot camp.
It's not like that, okay, it's a place where Max can get some help.
I'm right here! Making one stupid mistake does not make my son an alcoholic.
Look, he could have killed someone.
Jeffrey, he could have killed himself.
Encompass was Sara's idea.
Your order's done.
I need to use your phone.
They got payphones in Hartfield about 5 miles down the road.
No, no, I don't have a car.
Please miss, I just need to call home.
Are you in some kind of trouble? No, no, I just May I use your restroom? Back there.
Yeah, I was thinking about going back to Stratton, but I hear they're real in the weeds with that Okefenokee file.
Yeah, catch me through to Red Cross PD? Maybe we can get a Sit-Rep (NT:Situation Report).
They injected me with something.
Yeah, for your protection.
So you won't get lost again.
Fire danger is pretty high.
If you're going off road, you keep an eye out.
I'll do that, thank you.
All right.
She's headed north.
Call up the helicopter.
So, anything? I'm just waiting for the judge to issue a search warrant for Encompass.
Meanwhile I've got to figure out how to make Quinn Keeler talk.
Well, we couldn't crack her.
The woman's a rock.
Yeah but she's key to finding out how Encompass figures into Sara's abduction.
Look, we went over the tapes with kinesic experts, hit her stressors, we tried everything short of bamboo shoots under her fingernails.
Whoever Quinn is working for has her convinced that if she spills so much as a grocery list, she's whacked.
I wish I could say different but I'm telling you, she's a dead end.
If Quinn Keeler's more afraid of whoever she's working for then she is of us, why fight it? I thought Marcy would talk, but now she won't.
I don't know Mel, why don't you tell Nagle I'm doing my best, how's that for a fresh approach.
Hey.
Mel? Hey Mel, she'll call you back.
There you go.
If I would've known you were going to buy me lunch, I would have upgraded.
Oh, there are still chili and there's a fine selection of condiments.
Actually I like my dog's "au natural".
Except for the hot sauce.
Well a girl's got to have a little spice in her life right? I'm all about the spice.
So what's the occasion, Danny? I've got an update.
And it's yours exclusively if you can get it on the air in the next 60 minutes.
I'm all yours.
Ah, right on time.
Have a seat.
- Who are you? - I'm your new best friend.
In Washington the Supreme Court has opened its session with the United States versus Brockett.
Brockett challenges and up secure evidentiary rule that will impact several cases including the death Row case of Aaron Hensleigh, a theologian convicted of four murders back in 1999.
Why the hell am I watching this? We have a new development in the Sara Collins kidnapping case, we have Judy Nash here, she joins us now live with an update.
Judy.
Jed, the FBI is calling this a major breakthrough.
Agents say that Quinn Keeler, arrested last week for her part in the Sara Collins abduction, has today promised full cooperation with the authorities.
You just signed my death warrant you son of a bitch! You have two choices, either you tell me what I want to know, or I send you back to county holding and into the general population.
And if you're lucky, maybe you'll make it through the night.
You can't do that! Problem is I just did.
Max gave us access and their schedule.
I didn't mean to use him but, sometimes that's how it works.
But you didn't come up with this plan yourself, did you? What do you think? Tell me.
I don't know a name, we only communicated through the Internet.
E-mail or website? There was a shopping website.
Basket bonds, totally legitimate.
But when I enter my username and password, it back toward me into an encrypted site.
Save yourself the trouble.
It got shut down as soon as I got arrested.
How did they recruit you? You've one-shot only, Quinn.
It started years ago.
When I got involved with Encompass.
At first it was all good, you know? So they got you clean? Me and a lot of others.
Like Max Collins, Ben Wilson.
The thing about an addict is, you bring them to the light and they're yours forever.
I came in an addict, I became a counselor.
Before I knew it, I drank the Kool-Aid and I I stopped asking questions.
Tell me about the process.
I saw Max's tape.
Own your rage? It's classic Cole technique.
He got clean, okay? 99 out of a hundred times, the program worked.
And when it didn't? You got more intensive therapy.
There was a special room, and you didn't come out until you accepted the path.
Usually Usually? Someone ran away once.
Who? Sara Collins.
Thanks for the ride.
You kidding me? I should be thanking you, it's the most boring ride in the state, and the radio's busted.
Sorry to hear that.
I don't mean to pry but your arm looks a little ragged.
I just, ran my bike into a tree, it's no big deal.
Well if you say so.
Would you mind if I used your cell phone? What? Your cell phone, would you mind if I Yeah, sure.
Thank you.
FULLY CHARGED Would you look at that.
The batteries dead.
Can't remember to charge it to save my life.
Tell you what, I'll just take you back to my place in Tyrell, you can use the phone there, how's that? You don't have to be afraid.
All you have to do is let us take care of you, Sara.
We want you to be safe.
We can't let you out until you accept the path.
Are you ready for that? Yes.
Micro-tremors.
You're lying.
No! You can't lie to me Sara.
Admit you are weak and it will make you strong.
I will do whatever you want.
Write a letter to your parents.
Tell them how you feel.
Own your rage.
Go ahead and pick a movie.
Any one you like.
Becca.
I told you to ignore all that, didn't I? I can't.
Listen to me.
They're going to find your sister.
Sara is not her sister.
Get away from us.
I would never do anything to hurt her.
She's a child.
I know that, but she deserves to know -- - Let's go.
- No, no, listen, listen.
I have genetic proof, I have a right to talk to her.
Why is he saying that, mama? Nevermind.
- Please.
- Get your hands off me! - I'm so sorry.
- Security, someone call the police! - Please, just let me talk to her.
- I want to press charges! You don't understand! Don't hurt him! It's none of our business.
Stop! She's my daughter! You can't come through here.
Search warrant.
I need you to vacate the building until one of our agents tells you otherwise.
Ma'am, please come with us.
It was back here? Yeah, when I was a counselor, they called it the therapy room.
It was here.
Are you lying to me? No, they put it here in the back of the building so no one would hear what was going on inside.
I'm telling you it was here.
Why would I lie to you now? I'm already screwed.
They kept Sara in here? Yeah.
What the hell did they do to her? Lucas? In here.
Damn.
We are bagging all the files.
Hard copy and digital.
Atlanta PD is holding everyone outside until the strike team finishes.
You'll want to take a look in here.
Sara Jerome.
I told you.
If Sara came to Encompass and they tortured her, why would she recommend it to Max? So you didn't really crash your bike, did you? - What are you talking about? - It's okay.
I can keep a secret.
You can? Come on relax, everybody stays quiet, everybody stays happy.
Does that work for you? Yeah.
Yeah, it does.
Hey I've got an idea.
Why don't you just pull over? Nice.
Now we can, um concentrate.
Oh, come on.
Stop! Are you crazy, running into the middle of the road like that? I need a ride.
Where are you going? I don't know.
Where are you headed? Boston, Massachusetts.
Sounds perfect.
Come on.
Hello? Hello? I want to talk to Jeffrey.
Who is this? This is Jessica Collins, who is this? Jeffrey's moved Jessica back into your house.
No, he would never Hello? We can't let you go until you accept the path? Are you ready for that? Yes.
- Micro-tremors, you're lying.
- No.
It's a voice stress analyzer, it detects changes in vocal patterns.
Lying equals stress.
Stress equals micro-tremors.
You can't lie to me, Sara.
Admit you are weak, and it will make you strong.
I'll do anything that you want.
That's enough, stop it.
Does anyone else think it's more than a coincidence that they kidnapped the same woman they tortured 11 years ago? You're right.
Sara wasn't random.
But if this was planned at least 11 years ago, how big is this? Check out the wall behind Sara, what is it? Some kind of reflection.
Can you give us a better look? Yeah.
It's a mirror image, first I'll flip it.
Next we get rid of any patterns in the tile by sampling a blank tile and subtracting that out of the image.
Looks like a face.
Someone's watching.
Can you enhance it enough for an ID? Yeah I think so, if I cull out some frames maybe I can bump up the clarity.
There.
Oh my god.
It's Eugene Collins.
Jeffrey's father.
For the state of Georgia, today was a day of both tragedy and hope.
The brutal slaying of six members of the Coltwood County Sheriff's Department was the deadliest attack on law enforcement in Georgia's history.
The governor has declared a day of mourning and Senator Jeffrey Collins has issued a statement offering his personal condolences to the deputies' families.
The murders took place only miles from where the FBI task force was searching for Sara Collins, but the FBI has not commented as to a possible link.
There have been further developments in the Sara Collins case.
As I reported earlier in a WCN exclusive, Quinn Keeler arrested one week ago for complicity in the kidnapping, agreed to cooperate with the investigation.
Now Keeler's been transferred to an undisclosed location, pending disposition of her case by the U.
S.
attorney.
The involvement of Keeler, a former rehabilitation counselor at the Encompass Welness Center, has led the FBI to investigate the organization.
This is Judy Nash reporting for WCN news.
