Moomin (1990) s01e13 Episode Script

The Last Dragon on Earth

Moomin
Even you, who always
tries to keep strong, -
will have moments when
you need to shed tears.
In those moments, just
cry your heart out, -
and then you will find that the
sadness quickly disappears.
Come, come here to where I am.
Come and hold out your
little hand to me.
I shall take you to
the world of dreams.
As long as you have an
honest heart, all is well.
The Last Dragon on Earth
That was really heavy rain.
Do you know that idiom?
It goes, "It seems like the bottom of
heaven's water reservoir just broke."
It was exactly that kind of rain.
Mamma, may I borrow this?
Sure, dear.
How about this one?
Go ahead. But what are
you using them for?
It's a secret.
A secret?
Yes.
I won't ask then.
You can have the jar, but please
return the basket, alright?
Alright.
Oh, oops.
There are so many water puddles
from last night's rain.
Oh, dear. The hem of
my robe is now wet.
Mr. Hemulen!
Good morning, Moomin!
Oh, your robe got muddy.
What are you doing?
I'm out on an exploration.
Oh, so you too have started to take
an interest in natural history.
Then, what might you be exploring?
Crayfish. I saw a crayfish in
one of these puddles earlier.
Oh, so you were after animals.
Not plants then.
I knew it, it's really here.
I did it!
I caught it, I did!
Huh?
Could it be?
Pappa!
What is it?
Oh, uh, nothing.
The air really feels good the day
after it rains, don't you think so?
Yes.
I'm going to show Snufkin first.
I won't show this to
anyone else before him.
Moomin.
What do you have there, Moomin?
Nothing, nothing at all.
There's no use hiding
it, I saw it earlier.
It's just an empty jar Mamma gave me.
You're lying. It wasn't empty.
There's nothing in it!
What are you hiding it for?
Geez, of all people who could've seen
it, it had to be that tattletale My.
A dragon
It really is a dragon.
Fate brought us together.
This is definitely a dragon.
He's a young one.
He probably fell from the
heavens along with the rain.
You must be the last dragon on earth.
That's just wonderful!
Oh, sorry if I scared you.
I'm going to take off the lid so you
can see your surroundings better.
So?
Do you feel better now?
Let's shake hands as a sign of peace.
Ouch!
That's going to burn my hand, you know.
But you really are amazing.
You really are a dragon,
even if a very small one.
Let's be friends. What do you say?
When you grow bigger and
we're still friends, -
I'll even take you for
a swim in the sea.
Oh, yes. I should give you some food!
It's almost time for lunch, after all.
Sometimes, I get hungry
in the middle of the -
night, so I have a stash
of food right here.
I'll get you some.
Here. You can eat
whichever you want to.
Awesome!
I really want to become
friends with you!
Moomin! It's time for lunch!
Coming!
Wait here, alright?
I'm just going to go eat lunch as well!
Listen. You and I are friends, alright?
Where's Sniff? I thought I saw him too.
He was in the garden earlier.
He'll come when he comes.
Let's eat, then.
I think there's someone here
keeping some creature in some jar.
Jar?
Yes. It seems he caught
the creature somewhere.
Moominmamma. I found
this by a water puddle.
Oh, it's my basket.
Moomin, I said you could
have the jar, but -
I told you to return
the basket, didn't I?
I'm sorry.
I got too engrossed in what I was
doing and forgot about the basket.
Well, I guess that clears up who
that someone I mentioned was.
Moomin, did you catch
something with the basket?
He did! And now he's keeping it
in a jar hidden in his room.
Tattletale.
Everyone has a right to
having at least one secret.
As long as the secret doesn't cause
others any trouble, of course.
When did I ever cause
anyone any trouble?
I'm sure you'll be causing
some soon enough.
Does that secret creature
seem like it bites?
It's small enough to fit in a jar.
Even if it does, it
wouldn't be much of a bite.
Fleas, mosquitos, and
leeches are all small,
but I wouldn't want
to be bitten by them.
They suck blood, after all.
What if that creature was able
to reproduce really fast
It might just multiply to a
hundred within a minute!
Look. Just like this.
Then this house, and all of us shall
fall victim to their bites very soon!
That's just ridiculous!
It seems there are such
beings on other planets.
There shouldn't be any here though.
It's possible that
they might have fallen -
here from other planets,
along with the rain.
Oh. Now that you mention it, it did
rain really hard last night, didn't it?
That was no ordinary rain, no sir.
The puddles it formed were
as big as ponds, after all.
What's wrong?
Excuse me.
I think I pushed the right buttons.
I wonder if Moomin will tell us
about his secret now. I'm excited.
He's sleeping.
Geez. My trying to scare me like that.
I'm going to Snufkin's place.
Are you done with your meal?
Yes.
Mamma, don't let anyone
into my room, alright?
I won't take responsibility if anything
happens to anyone who sneaks in.
I understand. I won't let anyone
open your bedroom door then.
I bet he's going to tell
Snufkin about his secret.
I'm a little disappointed.
That kid really likes Snufkin.
Hey, Snufkin!
Hey.
Fishing again?
I did some card divination,
and it said that if I caught -
five daces, I must depart
on a journey immediately.
A journey?!
You're kidding, right?
I'm quite superstitious, you see.
But winter is still quite far off
I have this feeling that
it's not a bad idea to -
start my journey earlier
than usual this time.
But
Come on, don't say that.
I'm going to feel very sad
if you leave, Snufkin.
Who will I go to when I'm in
need of advice and such?
Let's go to my house!
There's something I want to show you!
Right now?
Yes.
Alright then. I suppose fishing
will have to wait until later.
You should just give up on fishing.
But I have to fish for daces -
You won't catch any anyway.
Since it rained last night, the
river water has risen and is murky.
The current is also very strong.
I suppose you have a point.
So, what is it that
you want to show me?
W-Wait!
Have you ever seen a dragon, Snufkin?
Of course I haven't.
Dragons have all disappeared off the
face of the earth a long time ago.
But don't you think it's possible
that there's just a single one left?
I don't.
What if there was one left which
was small enough to fit in a jar?
You really are quite the dreamer.
I won't believe anything I
don't see with my own eyes.
Conversely, I'll also accept anything I
see with them, no matter how absurd.
Where could he have gone?
Mamma promised she won't
let anyone enter my room.
He's not here.
I believe you, Moomin.
Huh?
Oh there he is!
It really is a dragon
How did he get up there, I wonder?
It'll be bad if he falls!
Don't move!
Wait for me. I'll find a way
to get you down safely.
Don't try to cry out either.
You might just fall doing so.
Alright now, gently
climb down onto this.
No need to get scared.
Even if you slip,
these beddings will -
cushion your fall so
you won't get hurt.
He'll get more scared if you do that.
It's best just to leave him be.
He'll come down by himself
if when he wants to.
He's a dragon, after all.
He's not a creature who
needs to be taken care of.
Come on, now. Be a good boy.
Here.
Here, come on.
Now hurry up and climb down!
Amazing
Flying He's flying!
My dragon is flying!
- I see him as well.
Hey! You'll get tired
if you keep on flying -
like that! Why don't you
quiet down for a bit?
Be careful. It seems
it likes to bite ears.
He's sleeping on my shoulder.
What an odd little fellow.
I don't have any shoulders
So this was your secret, Moomin?
How cute! What's his name?
I haven't given him any yet.
He's not cute at all.
He's got a rather spunky look on
his face for someone so small.
He's just like you, huh, My?
What did you just say?
Ouch!
Hey! S-stop!
He spared no one, didn't he?
No, he didn't bite Snufkin.
Totally not fair!
Hey you! Why is Snufkin the
only one you won't bite?
Well, what have we here.
It seems Snufkin's coffee -
has gone cold so he's
trying to heat it up.
This is amazing.
Oh dear, please don't
heat it any further.
The flames might burn
the couch as well.
That's enough now.
He seems harmless right
now since he's small.
But just you wait, once he gets bigger,
he'll burn down this house as well.
No he won't!
Geez, what an annoying fly!
What do you think you're doing?!
It's because you were
shooing the fly away.
So your dragon eats flies?
What a disgusting dragon.
Come, let's go back to my room now.
Thank you for the coffee.
I still have things to
do, so please excuse me.
He won't be able to breathe under this.
He's crying out at Snufkin.
I guess you like Snufkin too
What a weird dragon, seriously.
That's not true!
Moomin, are you going to
just leave your dragon here?
Take him with you to your room, please.
This is what I should really do.
You won't be able to
catch him again now.
Why did you let him go?
I wanted to watch him a bit more.
I'm sure you can see him again
if you go visit Snufkin.
He's probably going to be
staying on Snufkin's shoulder.
Snufkin also mentioned that
he'll be going on a trip soon.
That dragon will surely
go with him then.
Oh, dear. My dear, dear Moomin.
You're quite the troublesome fellow.
Your master is supposed
to be Moomintroll.
Now, go back to your master.
Go on.
Not on my hat. You're supposed
to go back to Moomin.
I do think it's not half-bad to
have you with me on my trip.
However, I would not
want to upset my friend.
Here's another one!
This is my fifth catch.
I'm good to go then.
Fishing?
I suppose.
Are you headed for a faraway place?
Yes. To the horizon and beyond.
I believe you'll get
hungry on your way.
I'll give you these daces.
What can I offer you
in return for these?
I would like you to do me a favor.
Take this as far as you possibly
can and leave it there.
So I should just leave it then?
Yes. But pick a place for it.
A place with a lot of
flies would be nice.
Somewhere with a lot of flies, eh?
Yes.
What's inside?
A young dragon.
A young dragon?!
Won't it bite?
And that's why you shouldn't
take the lid off midway.
Take the lid off when you leave it.
We don't want the little fellow to die.
This job seems to be a little
tough for only five daces.
As far as you possibly can, alright?
Hey.
Hello.
Is he with you?
He?
The young dragon.
It followed you, didn't it?
No, I haven't seen it.
Isn't it in your room, sleeping?
I let it fly away.
That's quite the careless choice.
In that case, it may have
gone back to the heavens.
Dragons have always been creatures
of the heavens, after all.
I guess you caught your five daces?
No. Just as you predicted, I
didn't catch a single one.
Really?
I suppose this means I shouldn't set
out for my trip until winter comes.
Then you'll be staying here
all the time until then?
Yes. I told you I'm rather
superstitious, didn't I?
I'll follow what the
cards have told me.
That's great!! I'm really
glad to hear that!
That's really great news!
Hurrah, hurrah!
Maybe I shouldn't have
painted my float red.
I don't have any intentions
of repainting it though.
Well, then. Why don't we head home?
Alright!
That dragon was pretty fickle.
Well, he was still a child.
He doesn't understand anything yet.
Not the easiest fellow
to deal with, I say.
I guess so.
He was really quite the odd one.
His favorite food were flies.
Not exactly -
something to boast
about, I would say.
Moomin was truly happy
at knowing that Snufkin -
wouldn't be leaving
for his journey yet.
And so, his sad feelings
from being disliked -
by the dragon faded
away soon enough.
Moominvalley has new residents.
Madam Fjonka and her three children
have recently moved next door.
We've decided to hold a
welcome party for them.
