The Firm (2012) s01e13 Episode Script
Chapter Thirteen
Previously on The Firm Kevin Stack was saving money for Noble Insurance by killing terminally ill patients, and he was using my client, Sarah Holt, to do it.
And Martin Moxon must have figured out the truth and decided to blow the whistle.
That must be why he leaked that list to you.
I didn't know Martin even had a safe deposit box.
They're copies of patient files.
All of them are marked deceased.
And you know who's next.
I always thought we could control him.
But you're right, it's time we end this.
My guys should be there now.
Go to your window, do it now! Oh my God.
Listen to me, the spot we first met.
Get there if you can.
I'll be waiting.
If I don't see you, I'll know you didn't get out.
What do you see? I've got blood on the floor.
Whose blood? I'll check it out.
Team 3, do you read me? Team 3, do you copy? Abby Where's Mitch? I thought he said you were all coming in.
This is it? Do you think he's in there? We'll find out.
- Let's go.
- No, wait.
I still think this is a trap.
I never trusted Andrew and I sure as hell don't now.
Look, he did warn me about the attack.
I'm with Tammy on this; this guy's a born liar.
Why here anyway? 'Cause this is where Andrew and I first met.
Let's do this.
Sir! - Help me understand this.
- Uh, sir? How you let him get away again.
McDeere knew we were coming.
Someone tipped him off.
And so three highly-skilled Special Ops vets still couldn't bring down a suburban lawyer, his school teacher wife, and ten year old child.
Where's your weapon? Sir, the files from Moxon's bank box.
It's a start.
Keep searching.
Tear this place apart.
The police could be here any minute.
I gave you a direct order, soldier! Yes, sir.
Oh, buddy.
So glad to see you.
You still glad? What are you doing? That depends on whether you give us some straight answers for a change.
Buddy, put the gun down.
You don't like it? Scary looking down the barrel of a gun, huh? I got it off the guy who was hoping to kill my family! It wasn't supposed to come to that.
Get down.
Get down! Come to what? The whole story, Andrew.
Now.
Okay, look.
It started when Alex asked my help with damage control of what Kevin Stack was up to at Noble Insurance.
You mean murdering patients? He was a one-man death panel.
Sarah Holt.
She worked for Stack.
She was charged with the murder of Margaret Whittaker.
You mean she killed her.
You can quit talking like a lawyer now, Andrew.
Yeah.
No question.
And when you got her case, Alex assigned me to bring you over to the firm so we could keep tabs on it.
Is the entire firm involved? Only a few others, who Alex trusted.
Other liars? No one counted on how persistent you'd all be digging up the real truth.
But I swear I was told that the killings were going to stop and that no one else would get hurt.
I only agreed to help out a client, not take part in a criminal conspiracy.
It was about damage control, not about doing more damage! - Damage control? - No Damage control? Martin Moxon's dead.
Sarah Holt was murdered in her prison.
Men came into my house and tried to kill my family tonight! Which is why I called to warn you as soon as I found out.
Look, you've been lied to, buddy.
Okay, that's on me.
But I've been lied to also.
The question is, now what can we do together to make this right? Make it right? You played us from the start! Ray.
How do we know you're not playing us now? Ray You're just lucky I'm not the one holding the gun.
Oof! Why don't we just take him to the feds, turn him in to the cops or someone? Come on, Mitch.
Because we left the evidence in the house when we escaped.
All right, this is what is going to happen now.
You are going to help us take down Kevin Stack and Alex Clark, not because it's the right thing to do, but because you don't want to lose your bar license or go to prison for a very long time.
- Mitch, buddy - Stop calling me that.
Whatever you need.
In the morning, I'll go to the US Attorney.
Alex would have had Stack store all the incriminating documents at the firm.
That way, they'd be protected by attorney/client privilege.
Yeah, there is an unmarked room where all that stuff is kept.
It's only accessible by Alex and Stack via some kind of security fob.
Stack wears his around his neck.
This car's been ID'd.
We need a different ride.
Yeah, I can drop you at a rental place.
Come on.
What about Alex? She's not going to want to go down with Stack's ship.
She is loyal to Stack.
I don't know what's at the bottom of that.
- Money - She's also a survivor.
She'll know when it's time to cut bait.
I've seen her do it before.
I'll approach her.
Andrew, if you're workin' the other side, I'll kill you.
Look, I chose sides the minute I picked up the phone to warn Mitch, okay? I'm a dead man walking if Stack ever finds that out.
The only chance to survive this is to help you.
First we all help each other.
You really think we can trust him? No, I don't.
That's why I want you and Ray to go to Kinross and Clark to suss out this unmarked room.
From this moment forward, we don't do anything without a back-up plan.
Hey, how are you and Claire? Under the circumstances? How's the place? Amazingly familiar.
Everything, silverware, towels, everything in exactly the same cupboards as Phoenix, Oklahoma, everywhere.
It's almost funny.
Almost.
Yeah.
Are you okay? Under the circumstances Put Claire on.
Someone wants to talk to you.
Dad? Hey baby, how you holdin' up? Okay, I guess.
I feel safe here.
When are you coming? I've still got some things to take care of here, sweetie.
I want you to know that this is not like before.
This will be over with in a few days and we will be back home.
Back to our normal lives, okay? I miss you.
- Claire - I love you, Daddy.
I love you too.
Thanks.
It's Lewis, Mitch.
You've gotta stop screwing around and come in.
Look, Lewis I want to thank you for looking out for my family.
No, no, no.
Listen to me.
Thank you.
Figures that the Washington Hilton would have a particularly fine Presidential suite.
The envy of more than one president.
Please, sit.
It's good of you to come, Kevin.
Would you like something? The chef will make you whatever you desire.
No, thank you, sir.
I'm fine.
- We had an understanding.
- Sir? You came to us with a proposition.
You'd get to execute your personal agenda - or should I say crusade - and Noble will make a great deal of money.
Which I believe you have? Yes, and as CEO, I'm properly grateful.
However, certain.
difficulties have cropped up.
I assure you, sir, I've got things handled.
A foot chase in the heart of the capital's prime tourist destination, a valued employee plunging to his doom, a botched home invasion.
One can hardly make a plausible assertion that whatever handling this represents occurred within a particular discretion.
A CEO can hardly be expected to know the details of everything his subordinates get themselves up to.
If asked, I may not recall if you and I have ever met.
Point being, should these troubling matters not be thoroughly, promptly and, above all, quietly brought under control, things are liable to become difficult for the principal parties involved.
And my hands will be tied.
I understand completely, sir.
I won't let the company down.
I've every confidence And you have physical proof for this? We had all the documentation at the house.
We were gonna hand it over to you this morning.
But there's not much we can do without it.
We can question Stack and Alex Clark.
Which'll get you nowhere.
Look, I have a more pressing concern.
There is a name on Stack's future victim hit list.
Isaac Nash.
Now his date of death is recorded as today.
This is his address.
If somebody doesn't get over there to protect him, one of Stack's henchmen will murder him the way Sarah Holt murdered Margaret Whittaker.
You expect me to go there? I can't.
It's outside my jurisdiction.
I expect that you don't want to be party to letting another innocent victim die.
Lives are at stake, you have to do something! I can't even justify a warrant without that lost documentation.
Lost when they burglarized my home with the intent to kill me and my entire family! And your evidence consists of what? Can you ID the men who did the break-in? William Herman and Vincent Mercer.
But they are just foot soldiers.
Stack is the mastermind behind this whole thing.
I can question Stack.
I can get a sketch artist - A sketch artist! You're not listening to me! These men are committing mass murder! You have to wrap up this conspiracy before more lives are lost! I have heard that there are documents at Kinross in an unmarked room.
You want us to arrest first, and then fish around for the supposed evidence that you've "heard" may be there? If we did that to a client of yours, you would make us laughing stocks.
And you'd be right.
I wish there was something more we could do, Mitch.
I'm sorry.
- What'd they say? - They need more.
And they're not wrong.
We gotta get it for them.
She says this Nash is on a list to be killed today.
And off this random name on a list she can't produce, she wants us to do what, exactly? Baby-sit? I've got her and her daughter under federal protection from these people.
She's not making this up.
I'm saying don't fall for the McDeeres.
I did that once.
They want our cooperation when it suits them.
They think us feds are tools for them to use whenever they want.
We're not their puppets.
They were right about that firm's mob connection in your old case.
Yeah, and it nearly cost me my career.
They don't play straight.
They freelance, and they leave you holding a handful of air.
Do your pension a solid, and steer well clear.
I can't just stand down and let this targeted patient die.
I can't commit bureau resources without more to go on.
So I guess I'm checking this out on my own.
You'll regret it.
Thanks for your time.
Dimitri says we can hold up here.
we don't touch anything.
No worries there.
I can't tell whether it's pesto or mould.
Dude Okay, so, this Dimitri he's cool? He certainly thinks so.
- Trustworthy? - Yeah.
I'd vouch for him before that weasel Andrew any day.
Yeah, well that weasel Andrew got us these floor plans.
All right, so the secret room is on the fourth floor.
The elevator's here.
The secret room is there but there's no markings on the door, but there is a security keypad.
We're gonna need to get a clean look at that keypad for Dimitri.
And he'll be able to figure it out and get us in? If anybody can, it's him; Take a look around.
Wait, you two can't just go into Kinross.
They know you there.
You need some kind of disguise.
Handled! Divorce attorney, client.
She's affluent, she's a woman scorned.
She's bitter, she's on a mission.
But it's cool, 'cause she's banging her attorney.
That's probably more back story than we needed to know.
It's all about sub-text, honey.
Ray knows nothing about his character.
- He wears glasses.
- Ugh.
You'll be fine.
Well, all I know is he's gonna pay after what he put me through.
I'm gonna get you the best settlement I can.
Well, pre-nups were made to be broken.
And I want the house, and I want the boat, and I want the horse.
Tone it down a notch.
I'll teach him to mess with my sister.
And you can tell him that if he doesn't give me what I want, I'll let everybody know what he liked to do with a whip.
All right, you think they bought it? You were selling it hard enough.
It wouldn't kill you to play up your part a little bit more.
I'm not sure I like my character.
- Should we - Try down here.
Uhcan I help you? Lookin' for Tom Lay's office.
Her husband's divorce attorney.
Huh, goin' up against Tom.
Watch your fillings.
But you guys are on the wrong floor.
Tom's on three.
Ah, thank you.
Okay, Andrew said it was an unmarked door except for the security pad.
Here.
Really? You never know.
Hey, I thought I told you guys, Tom's on three.
Yes, thank you.
He never listens.
Always thinks he knows better than everyone.
Three! Thank you! Okay, so it's like the guy said, it looks to be And these pics are awesome, by the way.
Have you heard of something called focus? We were under a little bit of pressure.
Dimitri, how 'bout you focus.
The system! Standard, state-of-the-art top security deal.
It's got a code change-over and regular reset occurring at six-minute intervals.
Slave to the key-fob that your inside guy mentioned.
Then can it be replicated? No way, dude, no.
And neither you, nor anyone else, is gettin' in that room without one of those fobs.
Whoever set this up is mega-paranoid about access.
Now what, Mitch? US Marshall - I need to speak with Isaac Nash.
I assume he's your patient? Yeah, Mr.
Nash needs to rest, but I can give him a message.
I need to see him right now, resting or not.
Look, I'm really sorry, but whatever this is about, it's just gonna have to wait.
I guess I'll come back then.
Andrew.
I just got a call from McDeere.
Okay.
He said guys with guns stormed his house last night.
He and his family barely escaped.
Really? Okay, this is what we're not gonna do, Alex - That thing where I ask if you knew about it and you pretend like it's all news to you.
- Andrew, I swear - Okay, Alex! Does "I swear" have some other meaning where you grew up? What do you want, Andrew? Some assurance that I'm not being set up as an accessory to attempted murder.
A guarantee that I don't go to jail or get disbarred over actions that I never signed on for.
A little over-dramatic, don't you think? Men tried to kill him and his family in the middle of the night; I'd be interested to hear what you consider dramatic.
We're not discussing this on the phone.
No, or at your office.
I want neutral territory.
Meet me at Bar Lux tomorrow morning at 10:30.
I can't.
Be there, Alex.
Or I start evaluating my options like walking into the federal building and telling the truth.
I'll see you there.
Hey.
This is where you're staying? Dude, don't diss my crib.
No, I like the Dostoyevskian ambience.
Where are we with Alex? I've set a meeting outside the office per your instruction.
Good.
'Cause we will go with a back-up plan if she does not listen to reason.
Stack has a peanut allergy.
We found it in his military file.
A pretty bad one.
The slightest contact with peanut residue, and he goes into that shock I can't pronounce.
- Anaphylactic.
- Anaphylactic.
- Okay.
- We're gonna dose him.
I'm sorry, what? Yeah, we should have been more specific.
You're going to dose him.
- You're kidding, right? - Nope.
If we can't get the security fob off Alex, we will take it off Stack.
I don't know.
Andrew, this is where you make us believe.
Actions, not slippery words.
Don't make me point out that you owe usbuddy.
Where are you, Andrew? You have one unheard voice mail.
Stack here.
McDeere's trail's gone completely cold.
I have no idea where he is.
And I gather from my man inside, neither do the feds.
Call me back.
Surprised to see me? No, not at all.
I meant alive.
What am I saying, by now you have been briefed on how Kevin Stack's hit men blew their assignment.
I don't think we should continue this conversation.
I have something to propose to you.
And you will hear me out.
Then, if you choose, you may go.
This is over.
Kevin Stack is going down.
Now, you can go down with him, but I fail to see the career advantage in choosing to tie yourself to a mass murderer.
You can claim ignorance, privilege.
I don't need to explain your fall-back options to you; I know you are prepared for a day like today.
It is time to break the glass.
If you get up out of that chair without agreeing to cooperate in full, you will go to prison for the rest of your life.
You're bluffing.
If you really had Stack, you wouldn't need me.
This is a Hail Mary.
Nice try.
- Plan B.
- Roger that.
So this really works in a glass elevator? Yeah, we scramble the signal.
We've had a lot of guests complain about cell phones in a space that small.
Now.
Mitch I can't believe this.
It stays dead? Yeah, you have fifteen minutes.
Fifteen? Yeah.
There we go, thank you.
Oh, sorry! Yeah.
Excuse me, lady.
Yeah.
You're on.
I just lifted Stack's epinephrine injector.
Andrew! Yeah.
Yeah, I got it.
I'm on it.
The guy said we've got 15 minutes.
That should be enough.
No 'should' brother, that's what we got.
Abby.
Hello? Mitch, Lewis Coleman has been shot.
What? Are you and Claire all right? We're fine.
It didn't happen here.
It was at that patient's house who was marked next to die.
One of Stack's killers shot him.
Is Lewis all right? They don't know.
Don't blame yourself, Abby.
They're willing to shoot federal agents, now! Please, Mitch, be careful.
I will.
This'll all be over with soon.
Stack is spinning out of control.
He shot Lewis.
What's so damn important? Kevin hey.
Where's Alex? I don't talk without Alex.
Get Alex in here! Now! Yeah I'll get her on her cell.
Yeah, Alex, it's Andrew.
Yeah, Kevin Stack wants to know where you are.
Yep.
Well, you're gonna have to tell him that yourself.
What! Hello? You son of a - You get it? Yeah, just waiting for the change-over.
Come on, come on, come on Okay, Yeah, you got six minutes.
Hello? Hello! Can you hear me? Someone! He's fine.
He's fine, you can go back to work.
Fine.
So, what's goin' on? I don't know.
Just one second he was fine, and then he just passed out.
All right, I'll take a look.
It's down this way.
Mitch! To what do we owe the honour? Well, you know, I come from time to time.
Not enough to suit me.
How's that beautiful wife and daughter of yours? Fine.
You? Yours? My wife hates me and the kids ignore me, so, you know, normal.
That brother of yours staying out of trouble? He seems to be.
Good, good.
Actually, there was something I wanted to talk to you about.
This is unacceptable! I insist someone gets here right now! How much longer? Is he gonna die? You gotta give him that shot of epinephrine, right? - Before? 'Cause he could die, if you - You're not helping.
Shut up.
Come on, come on, come on My neighbour's kid got caught with a little pot.
Give him my number.
The dad's a big K Street mover.
I'd be happy to meet with him.
- As a favour to me? - Great.
We're puttin' in a pool, so I kinda want to get on the dad's good side.
Mitch we're gonna be late for that meeting.
- Sorry.
- Meeting? Should I be insulted I wasn't invited? No, it's not I'm just jerkin' your chain.
Any meeting I can miss is time I can be billing.
Eat my dust, McDeere.
I'll have that kid call you.
Great.
Any update on Lewis? He's out of surgery.
Doesn't look like it hit anything critical.
It's time to stop screwing around now.
Where the hell is Mitch? I'm not sure.
If you don't want me to call you a liar, you're gonna have to stop lying to me.
I want to know where he is, what he's up to, now.
I can't help you.
You can.
You won't.
Help always goes one way with the McDeeres.
Lewis Coleman's blood is on your hands.
You and Mitch.
My hands? If you hadn't sat on your hands, Lewis would be fine.
And Isaac Nash would still be alive.
Get Mitch to come in.
This cowboy grandstanding ends now.
You let the professionals take over.
In other words, what we've been trying to get you to do.
Ma'am, we'll have you out of there in a few minutes.
Finally! Ten seconds Come on! I don't have time for this! Come on Yeah.
We're in.
All right, I have to hit him with the injector shot in the next few minutes.
Okay.
Start copying.
- That means she's out.
- What? She's on her way here.
Alex.
Tammy? Oh my God.
What? There's no port.
What does that mean? There's no place to plug this in.
Meaning what? Meaning I don't know how we're going to get what we need.
Uh, well, call Dimitri.
Right.
How's my favourite fave? Not now, Dimitri, we have a problem.
There's no port on this computer.
Okay, show me what you're dealing with.
What are you doing? He wants me to take a picture.
How are we doing on time? Not good, Tammy.
Come on.
All right, it looks like you're dealing with a military-grade set-up.
You're right, there's no ports, for maximum security.
So there's no way of copying anything.
What are you saying? You're just gonna have to take the hard drive.
All of them? Chill.
Here's what we're gonna do.
Go over to the computer.
What? Okay.
All right.
You're gonna run a search for the documents you're looking for while Mitch keeps an eye on the bank of hard drives.
What do I do? Whichever drive blinks when you find the one you're looking for, that's the one you want.
Stay on the line.
Of course, come on, I'd never leave you, sweet cheeks.
That's good to know.
Sorry, dude.
Mitch, tell me which hard drive is blinking.
Uh Okay This one.
What do I do? Rip it out.
Rip it out, what do you mean rip it out? Rip it out.
How do I turn it off? All right, thanks, Dimitri.
- Yeah.
- We got it.
Give him the shot and get out of there.
On it.
Okay.
All right, did it work? Is he gonna die? I dunno.
Tell me later.
Wait What's wrong? When the code resets, it must prevent entry and exit too.
Oh my God.
- Yeah? - Okay, we are stuck inside.
We need the new code.
Too late, I'm already outside.
I gave Stack the shot.
By the time I get back, he's gonna be awake.
He hasn't woken up.
Good, 'cause we need the new code, we're stuck inside.
He just moved.
Andrew, get us the code, come on.
Yeah, uh okay, okay Slow down, Andrew! Um 7-0-2 And? It just reset.
Oh my God.
Come on, Andrew, give us the code.
Okay, okay.
Ah! Andrew, what? Andrew Alex just entered the building, you cannot use the front door.
One step ahead of you, buddy.
I'm in the back stairwell.
I'm okay.
McDeere set me up.
Aided by your friend, Andrew.
Get him.
I'm almost out.
Just watch your back.
When you get out, go straight to Dimitri's.
We made it.
Call me when you get there.
Andrew Andrew? They took the hard drive.
Not good.
What did McDeere want to talk to you about? You're cutting me loose? I didn't consider it for a minute.
It's the smart play now.
You want to take another minute? Not then, not now.
Not ever.
But we need to fix this.
McDeere has something I want.
I'll get something he wants.
What's your name? Agent Kaczynski.
- Your first name - Chris.
I knew an agent named Chris.
In Scottsdale.
Chris Murphy, have you ever heard of him? No.
He had a daughter named Olive.
She was my age.
I wasn't allowed to meet her though.
Do you have kids? Not yet.
But when I do, I hope they're brave like you.
I'm not brave.
Don't tell my mom, but I'm pretty scared most of the time.
If that's true, I can't tell.
Yeah, well I just feel like something bad's gonna happen.
Yes? Agent Terrance wants to see you.
Regarding what? - Agent Terrance, you can't - I want a material witness warrant for Mitch, Abby, and Ray McDeere.
As well as Tammy Hemphill.
Wayne A federal agent's been shot.
I'm done screwing around.
I want them tracked down, and brought in to tell us once and for all everything they know.
I don't have grounds for that, and you know it.
If it was one of yours that took a bullet, would you stand on ceremony like this? What was Lewis doing out there on his own? Let me guess He came to you for back-up, and you told him no.
I told him I don't take orders from the McDeeres.
So that's it.
You left Lewis to investigate and it almost got him killed.
And now you come in here asking for warrants? I will not let Mitch McDeere and his family withhold information.
And I won't apply for baseless warrants to satisfy your guilt.
I have a meeting.
It's me.
Find them and bring them in.
Let me worry about that.
But I want them all in my office by this afternoon.
This ends here.
How you doing? Groovy, thank you for asking.
Quit being a wise guy; on decoding the hard drive.
Okay.
You're all just gonna have to back off and chill.
This is gonna take time.
I'm dealing with military-grade encryption here.
You don't just waltz into a system like this.
The dudes who set this up have skills.
Well, you can do it.
Yeah, I got mad skills too.
I thought you were taking this into the feds.
They could decode this way faster.
I am gonna take it to them, but after everything we've been through, I need a copy of it first before I can give it to them.
Well, then it's gonna take as long as it takes.
Look, just a little patience, please.
We've been told to bring you to FBI special agent Wayne Terrance's office.
Same for your husband, his brother, and Miss Hemphill.
Fine.
But I'm not leaving without my daughter.
My orders didn't say anything about her.
I don't care about your orders.
I'm telling you that I'm not going anywhere - with anyone - without her.
Claire? We're going to pay a visit to the FBI.
Dad too? Yeah.
Andrew, you made it out Not exactly.
You have something of mine.
What happened to Andrew? He's not the one you should be worried about right now.
What do you want? You know the answer to that.
You have something that belongs to me.
So I'm taking something that belongs to you.
The thing most precious.
Ready.
My family is under protection.
You're not as smart as I took you for if you think they can be protected from me.
I'm sending a live feed to your phone.
Watch this.
Get down! Get down! Oh no! Claire! Get down! Oh God! No! Claire! No!
And Martin Moxon must have figured out the truth and decided to blow the whistle.
That must be why he leaked that list to you.
I didn't know Martin even had a safe deposit box.

Watch this.
Get down! Get down! Oh no! Claire! Get down! Oh God! No! Claire! No!
