XIII: The Series s01e13 Episode Script
Revelation
Previously on "XIII.
" Irina: There are three microchips smuggled in the back of watches.
Max: It's not a gift I'm giving you, it's a curse.
Dillon: There's an urban legend among hackers about something called, "The Skeleton Key.
" What did it do? Theoretically, it opens any program, anytime, anywhere and gives you complete control.
It's the hacker's Holy Grail.
I'm not the kind of man to shoot my own son.
Son? What's that? Jones: An electronic key? Jones: Did you really just blackout Moscow? Dillon: This program can access anything.
Banks, stock markets, nuclear weapon systems.
Gerhardt wasn't the only one trying to get the program out of Renelco.
Amos: I fail to understand how you could hand over potentially the most dangerous weapon the world has ever known to a man like Ranier Gerhardt.
Mullway: The roots of this entire operation run extremely deep.
(gun shot) Carrington: If you go anywhere near that weapon, I'll have you arrested.
If you resist arrest, you will be shot.
(explosion) Markets dropped for a second straight day, with reports of sabotage hitting American-owned pipelines and refineries worldwide.
As the system failures continue, the question no one seems to be able to answer is: who is behind this and why? Amos: It fires on three levels.
Structural couplings are showing signs of failure.
Needless to say the wellbit's also compromised, so right now we have thousands of barrels of oil flowing into the Atlantic.
Which is not a cause for celebration.
We've confirmed last coms; instruments show nothing wrong.
Just like the others.
Could be a power surge, or a slow computer response.
It's not an act of God! Come on, people! There are a hundred and forty men aboard that rig! Surely, one of you can get through to one of them and have them transmit their logs! They might be a little busy.
The Delta Dawnstar's only two years old.
It's top of the line, no reports of previous failure.
It's an attack.
Jones-- it's me.
We need to talk.
Sheridan: This could potentially prove worse than the energy crisis of the 70's.
And President Carrington and his administration seem helpless to do anything to stabilize it.
I mean, we've gone from energy-dependence to energy helplessness.
And the American public aren't stupid.
This is exactly the sort of thing that is going to make them sit up and take notice, and say, "Hey, we need a change.
" We're down 30%.
Well, we gotta hold the line, gentlemen.
For just a few more days.
It's the coldest winter in twenty-three years, there's snow on the ground in forty-nine states.
Amos: Gentlemen, a public panic will not help your station owners, or your stockholders.
We've got to jack prices, Mr.
President and we've got to do it this afternoon.
That's still not going to help supply in the south or the mid-west.
For God's sake, Sir! Turn on the God-damn spigot! With all due respect, we've got to tap into the strategic oil reserves.
That is absolutely a last resort.
Are you telling me we're there? Sir, they just evacuated the Delta Dawnstar.
That's the fourth rig in last seventy-two hours.
We're there.
I was a secret agent.
Betrayed by my own people.
Robbed of my face, my memories, my history.
Hidden in my past is a secret that threatens all humanity.
I search for answers, with nothing to hold onto, but the tattoo that has become my name.
I am XIII.
There's your target.
Sir, permission to-- Oh, go ahead.
You will assemble a team.
There will be no coms.
There will be no written orders.
There will be no questions.
Just terminate.
With extreme prejudice.
Sir.
With pleasure, Sir.
Good.
Jones: Hey.
Thanks for meeting me.
It's good to see you.
Jones: For what it's worth, I can't imagine what it must've been like to have found your father, and then lost him like that-- I've been trying to put myself in your shoes-- Thanks.
Subject's Gerhardt.
Let's walk.
Okay-- Look Nothing has changed.
The President ordered you to stand down, if you don't, he'll shoot you.
I know.
I heard Langley's in a bit of a mess.
Every power outtage around it is a potential attack.
We have no idea where Gerhardt is and he's not playing by any LOCUST scenarios.
XIII: LOCUST what? Cyber terrorism war-game scenarios.
There are five broad categories-- And he's not playing by any of them.
Which means the other shoe's yet to drop.
Feels like the other shoe has dropped.
They're drawing up plans for Marshall Law.
Look, this whole time Gerhardt's been pushing me to sift through my past, pushing me in the direction of the weapon.
Jones: Unfortunately, we figured that out too late.
She led us right to him.
Yeah, well now he's got it.
I'm not on his radar.
I'm not important anymore.
And? Well, that's kind of a game-changer.
I can't back you up if you don't trust me.
I trust you.
I wouldn't trust me if I were you.
The President's orders still stand.
I'm willing to take that risk.
Start small.
Okay.
Here's a shopping list.
Okay, gimme an hour.
I knew you couldn't stay off the grid.
Well-- I thought there were a few lines left still to cross.
Alert the others.
This goes down in an hour.
(automatic gun fire) (gun fire) (gun fire) (explosion) (coughing) (coughing) (screaming) (gun shots firing) (coughing) Come out with your hands on your head, interlock your fingers and we'll make it quick! Grenade! GRENADE! (explosion) You're now ahead in every demo but Latinos.
Sheridan: One nanny without papers.
But making up eighteen million is not going to be that easy.
You changed the accounts.
Of course.
You know, if Carrington goes ahead with Marshall Law we're going to have kids breaking into their piggy banks for you.
Jacob, can I have the room? Yeah, sure, of course.
Okay, everyone, clear out! Walter, how nice to hear from you.
Are you enjoying the show? It's everything you promised, Ranier, but I have concerns.
Oh? Sheridan: I've got projections that say these oil failures are going to depress G.
D.
P.
by three percent this year.
The country can't absorb that.
It's bad for business.
Have you never noticed how much magic and politics have in common? What? The audience must buy into the misdirection.
They want to be fooled! What are you talking about? I promised you a path to power.
The United States consumes ninety-seven percent of the world's fossil fuels.
You make research into alternative fuel sources more viable.
And you'll get even richer.
Yeah, yeah, yeah-- Then there is China and India to think of.
Even if things go greener, something has to give.
The old structure was unsustainable.
I don't think I care for the implications.
You may well regain power, Walter.
You are ruthless enough.
But-- I never promised you it would be the same country you knew.
I've enjoyed our partnership, but now it must come to an end.
Good luck, Mr.
President.
We will not have cause to speak again.
That was fun.
Much better than that time with Reagan! Here's the list of targets you requested.
I've done tests.
All are fully exploitable.
Hi, honey.
Amos: Hey.
Why does Lizzie always leave her doll there? She's six, she can put toys away.
I know, I know-- Mike dropped by with the translations you left at work.
Yeah-- I knew you'd need them for tomorrow and I was on my way.
XIII: You know, he's very particular about details.
Yeah, who do you think you're talking to? Could you, uh, give Mikey and I a minute? Yeah, of course.
Thanks for the tea.
Goodnight.
Night.
I ought to put a bullet in your head right now.
Well, you're welcome to try.
See, once you blow past assassination attempts, wellthe old threats don't really work anymore.
This is my home.
It's my family.
Yeah, it's the only way to get your attention.
See, you know what your problem is? You direct your attacks from a nice, safe distance.
I'd be more than happy-- I'm fighting for my life! See, I figured I'd preview my one advantage.
And I will get my hands dirty.
So you call off your hit men.
Is that a request or a threat? It's a move.
It's the only one you left me.
By the way-- Your boys shook something loose.
I'm starting to remember about Renelco.
I can stop the weapon.
I don't believe you.
That's exactly what you would say.
HOW? How? Well, you're going to have to let me live long enough to let the pieces settle.
That's pretty convenient.
It's an asymmetric weapon.
And it's in the hands of a billionaire, psychopath.
How are all the King's men doing? Yeah, that's what I thought.
You have a nice family.
Today protests spread to four more U.
S.
states.
As dwindling gas reserves leave supermarket shelves bare.
In Texas, 8 people died as a pro-America rally turned ugly after food ran out.
Amos: Dulles and Reagan airports reported four incursions in the last hour.
Two resulted in in-air close calls.
He's sending us a message.
Clear the airspace! Air Force One is shielded.
Sir, what about the motorcade? Traffic lights-- Are you telling me I'm a prisoner in the White House?! You're looking at this the wrong way, Mr.
President.
Maybe going to an emergency energy summit is not the strongest course of action right now.
I'm the one who called for it!!! We'd prefer it if you remained in Washington.
Think this through like a politician, not a General, Sir.
Amos: You are needed here.
I am not going to hide in my room, gentlemen! I hate to bring this up, Sir, but XIII came to my home.
What? Apparently, he has his memory back.
Really.
Says he has a lead on how to neutralize Gerhardt and get the weapon back.
We're not doing very well, are we? Gerhardt has the resources to become invisible.
He has gone to ground and we can't find him.
We've been down this road before.
Make sure you keep XIII on a short leash.
This time.
Yes, Sir.
What about our other problem? Morning.
You've got to be kidding me.
No sleep.
I had to keep moving.
You know, this habit you have of breaking into places-- Look, Amos sent a hit team after me yesterday.
I need to know-- I had nothing to do with that.
But honestly, I'm not surprised.
(phone ringing) Wow, um-- Okay I've been assigned back to assist you.
I guess Amos made his choice.
Called off the dogs.
And how did you swing that? I told him memories are starting to come back.
I remember the Renelco mission.
I mean, it's just flashes right now, but-- Well, what, what exactly do you remember? We thought that Gerhardt -- when he got the weapon, he'd copy it.
You know, he'd use it whenever he wanted.
But, he can't.
Why not? Because Renelco knew what they had.
And they didn't want it getting out to just anyone.
There's a failsafe in the code.
Once it's up and running, if it's copied, it destroys itself.
Which means that if we can find that laptop-- We destroy the weapon.
That's nice.
Nice-- I'm still trying to remember more, but it's just so jumbled.
Hey, Dillon, it's Jones.
Yeah, listen, we're back on.
Alright, so-- Yeah, meet me in thirty minutes.
Grant, what is this? What are we doing here? New orders, Sir.
Sheridan: New orders?? What are you talking about? I have a meeting! Yes, you do.
Nice place you got here.
It's useful.
Secure.
Gets swept everyday.
Part of military training, I suppose.
You always have to have a contingency, Wally! But you understand.
I couldn't risk inviting you to the White House.
Too many questions.
We have plenty of those for you, Walter.
Mr.
President to you.
We're way past that here.
Carrington: You're a sociopath, Wally.
You're also the biggest liar I've ever met.
But until recently, I never-- I never doubted your love for your country.
Amos: We intercepted three phone calls between you and Ranier Gerhardt.
He's a man we have an extreme interest in right now.
I don't know what you guys, you're talking-- Oh, cut the crap.
You're clever, I'll give you that, but you can come after me! I'd welcome the challenge.
But right now I'd be willing to bet Gerhardt screwed you.
Softening up the electorate, that's one thing-- But he's driven the security of this country right back to 9-11! Now anyone who'd want to terrify the public like that-- They'd have to be insane! There are people who know where I am.
I mean, I've got a tracking device in my phone.
We're not going to harm you.
Carrington: But-- If you could offer us any help-- It might be looked on Kindly.
Maybe even welcomed.
So? Well, I'm not admitting anything.
And your insinuations about Ranier Gerhardt are frankly ridiculous.
But, there may be allies that I can call upon, reach out to, who will maybe be able to help you in your search for this man.
But-- But, what? Well, what's in it for me? Well, if you play your cards right-- You just might be able to see your son.
Jones: I gotta tell you.
You look ridiculous.
Well, that is hurtful and untrue.
This is "Borg chic.
" I can stare at ten million lines of code until my eyes bleed, OR that is the internet in real time.
Total Minority Report.
So can you see anything? Once you told me we had a fixed emanation point; the laptop-- my job became exponentially easier.
Plus I kind of, sort of-- Jones: Juiced the laptop with a bunch of malware we're not supposed to know about.
Well, in my defense That stuffis going to save our butts.
XIII: Can you track it back to the source? Yeah, I think so.
The Skeleton Key works on a brute force model not like a virus that lies in wait.
It's kind of like; well imagine there's a highway full of Prius' and this is like a And with my mods, this code is hella easy to track.
You got to give me a few hours.
And then what? Well, then I code an App for that fancy smart phone of yours and BOOM! You got yourself an active tracker.
That's how you delete-- I mean that is pretty cool, right? Spectacular.
The good news is the more Gerhardt uses the weapon, the data points increase, it actually becomes easier to track.
That's a pretty extreme definition of good news.
Whoa, whoa, whoa-- Hang on, hang on We got a core manipulation underway right now (alarm sounding) What's an L4 Thunderbird? (phone ringing) Agent Jones, we have a situation.
Jones: Oh, God.
Phone and internet services are down.
The lines at C.
I.
A.
-- C.
I.
A.
are down, yeah yeah yeah-- You gotta admit this guy's got some style.
Gerhardt's going after the strategic oil reserves.
Alright, Dillon we need you to break records here.
Somebody tell me what's happening! I thought we closed our system up! A power reset at the Helsinki Office and a laptop called time server on the net portal was open just a second but-- We're blind.
I've got a Thunderbird breach and I can't get through to Langley.
We'll initiate a system-wide reboot in eighteen minutes.
Then we'll see if we lost anything.
That's not good enough.
We're looking at seventy-eight sites across the country, we can't access the alert system until we are back up.
What about the N.
S.
A.
? They got hit worse than we did.
They're down to cans and string for the next 2 hours.
What'd you do before computers? (phone ringing) Yes? But uh, every system is looking normal, Sir.
What are you doing? Oh, uh I'm actually not with the university.
This lab is closed.
That's too bad.
I was hoping you could help me with something.
Amos: A chemical cleaning solvent that is supposed to automatically scour empty tanks was re-routed to fill tanks at 16 sites.
Now this would have rendered much of our strategic oil reserve useless within a matter of hours.
As in the other attacks, electronic systems showed nothing wrong.
So for sites classified strategic 2 or higher, we are reactivating analog alert systems effective immediately.
Most of these systems have not been used since the cold war so, people, get them tested, get it done quickly.
Break out your slide rules and carbon paper.
I guess we owe you.
You're welcome.
How long will it take your man to find Gerhardt? He's fast.
We have a plane standing by at Andrews.
Agent Jones, can I speak to you? How's his memory? Well, just flashes now, but it was enough to get us on that lead.
Maybe it will help to put him under, and speed up the process.
Due respect, Sir, that's a terrible idea.
You mission has not changed, Agent Jones.
The President told me and now I am telling you.
He has to be kept on a short leash, do you understand? Yes, Sir.
WHACK! That's what you get when you miss.
(coughing) XIII: This does not look promising.
All right he logged off forty-five minutes ago.
There's nothing, just this one note-- A bunch of zeros and ones.
XIII: That's binary.
Hot Foreign Jones: Chick.
Irina.
Sheridan: Now whether it's President Carrington or myself in charge, I can assure you that Nigeria will always have a partner in stopping the devastation that-- This is the precise opposite of what we discussed.
You gave your blessings and they made a very fair bargain.
Mr.
Minister, you have to understand-- Sorry, this is impossible for us.
Rats are leaving the ship I, uh have done as you asked.
Please, tell Mr.
Gerhardt to return control to our oil pipeline.
Sheridan: Lucas? You and I are going for a ride.
I was surprised by your call.
The situation has changed.
Gerhardt is turning out to be a somewhat less trustworthy partner than I'd hoped.
Irina: I remember Giordino saying the same thing about you.
You'd like me to find Gerhardt for you? Don't insult us both by denying that you're already looking for him.
I have a few leads.
But my price will be twice my usual retainer.
How about for free? Pat her down, see if she's got a phone.
Sheridan: No! Noooo! (gun shots firing) Got a location on Dillon? We're reading Irina's SIM card now.
XIII: GPS is clean.
Don't need it.
Check out every cell tower it's accessed within a three-hour window.
Okay, right there-- Triangulate.
Any empty office space or hotels on that block? Jones: Got it.
Jones: 1228 Adams street, southwest.
XIII: That's the other end of town.
Alright, I'm closer.
Meet me when you can.
Good job.
XIII: Irina won't give us much time.
You got him? Jones: Nothing yet, but I'm close to the signal now.
I got him! Alright, I got him! Dillon? Ryan, she's given him a hotshot! We're losing him! Okay-- Hang in there, alright, hang in! Listen to me, Dillon-- This is really going to hurt, okay? OneTwoThree.
Ugh! (coughing) Are you okay? You alright? You guyssuck.
Bastard! Don't try anything.
Don't flatter yourself.
XIII: We're sure Gerhardt's in Paris? Jones: According to Dillon, the weapon's been accessed two dozen times, all from there.
Is that the E.
M.
P.
? Of course.
The Chinese ones are crap.
Worst case scenario, we hit this, it sends out a pulse that kills everything electronic within a one mile radius.
Cars, elevators, computers-- Pacemakers.
Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
News: Reports say U.
S.
President Benjamin Carrington will not be in attendance at today's meeting, lending creedence to those who blame "cyber terrorism" for the crisis.
Heike: Here we are, Sir.
Credentials and clearance.
I trust it's in order? Merci.
Carrington: Good morning.
Right off the top I would like to apologize for the circumstances under which I address you today.
But I'm given to understand that the French Energy Minister, Honor Bertrand has pulled this meeting together with great skill.
I regret that conditions here in America have made it impossible for me to attend.
But it is my fervent hope that we can hash together an initial response-- (whispering) Carrington:to the events of the last few-- Okay, what's the problem? We lost the SAT feed, we're talking to ourselves.
Oh, hell! Why don't we take a few moments break? See if we can get him back.
Carrington: That was a shielded Air Force satellite! All the power at our disposal-- We can't find one man and a laptop.
I hate the fact that we're relying on XIII for this! I truly pray that this is the one rare instance where one man can make more of a difference.
Well if you're seeing the value of XIII-- We gotta be in bigger trouble than I thought.
If I may have a moment.
I am Ranier Gerhardt.
I have companies that enjoy many pilot projects and joint ventures with almost all of your governments.
And I think right now, we have a unique opportunity to have a discussion about energy.
Just.
Among.
Us.
Jones: All right.
I've got it.
It's faint, but it looks like the laptop's on the move.
Where are you? South and west of you.
I see it.
Damnit.
What's wrong? Well, if we figured out the computer's trackable, chances are he did too.
You know, you can't know that for sure.
Gerhardt's used to hiding.
XIII: We gotta draw him out.
All right, I've got eyes on our football.
You were right.
No Gerhardt.
It's with a woman.
All right, follow her, but don't take her down.
I going to have to sign off, I picked up a tail.
How you gonna lose him? Who said I want to lose him? (fighting) (fighting) (fighting) (phone ringing) Yeah.
Hey, are you all right? Just returning a gift.
So I agree Mr.
Chancellor.
I agree.
We drive the wind, and fuel cells and Petrodollars are tomorrow's news.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah yeah-- Oh yeah, well, we talk later.
And so a few million Freeze to death or suffocate in Arizona's heat.
Small beer.
Very good, Sir.
Where's Bader? Facial recognition picked them up on the scan coming into De Gaulle.
So XIII's in Paris.
Very resourceful.
But it's not what I asked.
You engaged him? You revealed yourself? He forced the point.
Bader left us exposed.
Excuses.
He overpowered you.
I'm here! He did not defeat me.
A distinction with a difference.
You monsieur, are a cretin.
Don't.
Do you know what you've done? Mr.
Gerhardt-- If we cannot disassemble or copy the program, we are very vulnerable.
Yes, I know.
And now I am under very much scrutiny! Because of you! You chose this moment.
You chose now! What are you doing?! What is in here? I've never seen it before.
Hmm-- This card's a remote tracker.
Now XIII knows where I am! Take it! Drive to Rome and drop it in the Trevi Fountain.
Then drown yourself for all I care! GO! Come on-- (phone ringing) Heike! Listen, they are following you.
This location is no longer secure.
(doorbell ringing) Don't go too far.
I don't want anymore surprises tonight.
A small one? Yes.
To what do I owe this singular pleasure? We've always had very little in common between us, you and I.
But I recognize one thing.
Something changes in you when you understand the calculus of sacrifice.
Who lives and who dies? The Constitution is a wonderful document.
But it's so often inconvenient.
We all have dirty hands.
XIII has regained his memory.
Oh.
He led us to a dropbox that contains copies of his original documentation from the Roman Numeral conspiracy.
I see.
It fills in all the gaps.
Even without Gerhardt, there is enough to assure us, that you will never take office again.
There's something that needs to happen here, for the good of the country.
Mr.
President-- There's still an honorable way out.
That's an interesting way to open negotiations.
(gun shots) XIII: Hey, Jones.
She keeps doing a circuit-- Two-K square, double backs-- She's very good.
She's looking for a tail but I don't think she's seen me.
How'd you do? Empty office, cleared out in a hurry.
I just missed him.
Card's on the road heading south but that's just a red herring.
Gerhardt found it.
I'm sure of it.
She's made several calls.
Good, then we'll flush him out.
XIII: Oh no She burns us, we lose Gerhardt.
IRINA! Irina: You had your chance in Washington.
Why did you leave me alive? Just walk away from this.
No way.
I need that laptop.
Irina: You want Gerhardt? I'm monitoring Police frequencies.
Two emergency calls just went out.
I need both! (gun shot) Put pressure on your leg till the ambulance arrives.
We gotta go.
Jones: Ryan! (gun shot) Irina: Ah! I told you I like to see my victim's eyes when they die.
Now it's your turn.
We gotta go.
The cops are on their way.
Come on.
(police sirens) How's it look? Microphone's trashed.
If she doesn't call soon, he's going to know.
We gotta switch that SIM card with another phone.
Gerhardt's paranoid-- That won't get past a hardware check.
Too easy to spoof.
Roll up her sleeve.
I will never betray Herr Gerhardt! We'll see.
Was that Irina's little bag of tricks? Yeah, she was one twisted puppy.
This is a two-stage poison.
Potency takes about an hour.
From there, there's no turning back it's like Ebola.
There is one difference.
The pain is slower.
It takes weeks.
Your insides will liquify and I promise you, you feel every moment, because your nervous system is the last thing to go.
This-- Is the antidote.
We'll give it to you when you give us Gerhardt.
You have one hour.
Max.
Now how about setting up a little rendez-vous? Jones: Let's hope he bites.
XIII: We'll know soon enough.
See you there.
Eyes in the sky are clear.
Anything goes wrong, hit the E.
M.
P.
Jones: Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
She's got eleven minutes.
Till what? Oh.
Right.
That.
I may have oversold the effects of Gatorade.
I knew it.
The hell you did.
(phone ringing) Listen, I gotta go off com for a second, all right? Copy that.
(phone ringing) Jones.
Carrington: Agent Jones? Yes, Mr.
President? I've been hearing disturbing rumours about a speech that Gerhardt made? Now, what's the status of your mission? We're hoping to make contact soon, Sir.
How's XIII's state of mind? He's five by five as far as I can tell.
I'm looking right at him.
And has he been remembering anything else? Not as far as I could tell.
Okay, I want you to keep me in real time on this, Jones.
Yes, Sir, Mr.
President.
We're on.
It's okay XIII: He took the bait.
Jones: Eyes on, he may still have backup.
XIII: Gerhardt! You have two guns on you.
Let's walk.
Sean Mullway says 'hi.
' Now that was unfortunate.
He's secure, Jones.
Alright, I'm calling for extraction now.
Gerhardt: Do you know anything about magic? The way I nudged you every step of the way.
Some might think that's magic, but it's just planning.
Planning for every eventuality.
Just smoke, and mirrors and a few glocks! I have a sniper aimed right at your head.
You don't usually hedge your bets.
Well, I'm not playing your games anymore.
(gun shots firing) XIII: Jones! XIII: Take Gerhardt as soon as you can! (gun shots firing) Laptop, Gerhardt! No more tricks! The game's over! Can I just say-- (gun shot) No.
XIII: Jones, I got the laptop! XIII: How many are up there? XIII: Jones! Jones, talk to me! XIII: How many on the bridge?! XIII: Answer me! XIII: I've gotta destroy this thing! XIII: Jones! Where are you? (gun shots firing) Jones! I need some help! (gun shot) Jones: I wouldn't trust me if I were you Mullway: The roots of this entire operation run extremely deep.

Carrington: If you go anywhere near that weapon You will be shot.
