The Forgotten s01e14 Episode Script
Train Jane
02 am, Chicago Gray Line, heading east.
Everyone thought they knew where they were going.
They were planning for the day ahead or the weekend to come, so sure they knew what was coming next.
But they were all, every one of them, Wrong.
get down! Get down! Everybody, down! I can't stop the train! Down! Get down! I was going somewhere important, and I needed to get there as quickly as possible.
But now that everything's gone off the rails I just want to go home.
Hey.
Hey.
How long have you been here? Oh, since about 30 minutes after it happened, so about 13 hours now.
Wow.
I thought it looked bad on TV The news said that a bad switch put them on a track that was under repair.
The conductor had no idea the track was out.
It's the Gray Line.
I took this train to my old job twice a day for three years.
There were a hundred people aboard the train.
and of those eight, this one was unidentified.
She's our Jane Doe.
N.
T.
S.
B.
is investigating the derailment.
It's up to the police to I.
D.
her.
But since this is just an accident, not a crime, we can't give Jane Doe the resources she deserves.
So we're asking for your help.
She was sitting in the front car.
The M.
E.
says that, uh, her neck broke on impact.
She died instantly.
Paramedic couldn't find any purse or I.
D.
If she had a purse, it's probably still on the train somewhere.
The cleanup crew found purses, but none of them had Jane Doe's I.
D.
They also found books, phones, an ipod, baby strollers and this.
Crystal meth.
Any one of those items could have belonged to her.
Any one of 'em could be the key to finding her name.
What about the things we know were hers-- her clothes? Nice dress, 5:00 am train.
Maybe she was on her way to work.
Mnh-mnh.
Only if she had a date after work.
I never dressed like that for the insurance place.
Maybe that's why you got fired.
Dude, I quit.
What if it wasn't morning for her? Maybe 5:00 am was the end of a long night.
Hey, look at her bra.
Excuse me? Her bra.
Check out the logo.
"C&"? Carlisle & Viggs.
It's a big department store in Great Britain.
I did a year at Oxford.
My liver did about six.
So you're saying her bra is British.
I'm telling you she could have studied abroad like I did, or more likely maybe our Jane Doe is British.
Exactly.
Okay, here's the plan.
Tyler, why don't you start sketching up some of these photos? We can get them out on the Right.
Walter, do you mind hanging out here and checking out some of the unclaimed items? Candace, Maxine, maybe we should talk to some of the people Maybe they can tell us what Jane Doe was doing before the accident.
Most of the passengers who weren't hurt just walked away, but a few of the injured are still being treated at County Medical.
Dr.
Valentino to the O.
R.
, please.
Does she look familiar? Did you see her on the train? Why don't you ask him? Bet he saw lots of passengers when he was running from the controls.
Just take one quick look.
Just please leave me alone.
Look, I can't imagine what you're going through.
I wasn't running.
I was doing my job.
As soon as I saw the bad track, I set the brake.
I sounded the alarm.
There was nothing more to do in the cab.
I ran back to warn people.
You were trying to save lives.
Yeah, but now there are these rumors that I'm a coward because I left my post, that I was trying to save myself, I didn't care about the passengers.
So why don't you prove them all wrong? She was one of your passengers, and now she needs a name.
Dr.
O'Neil to I.
C.
U.
Yeah.
She--she came to me right before we hit.
Uh, she said a name.
I didn't get it.
But you heard her talk.
Did she have an accent? Yeah.
British, maybe.
She was freaked out.
She wanted me to help her with something.
I I just pushed her down to a seat, told her to hang on.
Maybe if I-I'd put her somewhere else I'm sure you did everything you could.
This passenger says he knows our Doe.
Thank you.
She saved my life.
Can you tell us her name? Uh No.
No.
I This one-- she was a sweetie.
And that accent She got me up, said it'd be all right, and--and--and she took me out.
Wait.
This was after the accident? Yeah.
She--she seemed fine.
Thank you.
The M.
E.
said Jane died on impact.
If she survived the crash, then someone broke her neck after.
I think Jane Doe was murdered.
So, like, some panicky passenger shoved her aside, and she fell wrong? The conductor says that she was asking for help before the accident.
Maybe somebody on that train already wanted her dead.
I wasn't used to things changing.
One moment I was having the time of my life.
A heartbeat later, it had all gone wrong.
Hey, Alex, hang on.
You found something? Yeah, it's a cell phone.
The battery's almost dead, but Whoa! It's a Miyazawa 5600.
My company carries t500.
The 5600's only available in Europe.
So this might be her cell phone.
I'm looking up the user info now.
Should have a name for you just Ohh! Walter? What was that? Walter? Walter! Walter! What've we got? Bailey, Walter.
42.
Single G.
S.
W.
to the right shoulder.
Walter! How is he? We're--we're his friends.
Uh, his heartbeat's good.
He can wiggle his fingers and toes.
Looks like the bullet missed all the important stuff.
Alex! I love you, man Hey, where's that leather jacket you were wearing? It's like a basketball with gloves.
I love that leather jacket.
I gave him some morphine.
Listen, Walter, we're here for you.
We love you, buddy.
I love you, too, man.
And tell Candace I love her, too, okay? okay.
But not in a creepy way.
And tell Maxine--hi, Maxine-- Her blond hair's like a lighthouse in the darkness.
I love lighthouses.
And, Alex, please tell my family to come, Okay? Absolutely.
They're already on their way.
You can talk to them about lighthouses, whatever you want.
No, I need to tell them that I love them, okay, and that I got shot, and I'm scared.
It's gonna be okay, buddy.
Okay, Mr.
Bailey, everything looks good, but the bullet's lodged a few inches from your spine.
So we're just gonna leave it where it is.
What? No! No! You gotta take it out.
It's evidence! If you're not gonna, I will.
Gimme a scalpel, stat! I saw this on Animal Planet! Mr.
Bailey, you're on heavy pain meds.
He's gonna say he same thing when he wakes up-- Maybe not the scalpel part, but Let's prep for surgery.
So does this happen often? It's not supposed to happen at all.
Walter's okay, or at least he will be.
Good.
He's one of a kind.
Nobody at the, uh, crash site saw who shot him.
We're searching the neighborhood, but maybe Walter saw his face.
That's the first thing the police asked.
He said no.
Too bad, because whoever shot him probably killed Jane Doe.
The M.
E.
found bruising on the back of her neck.
You were right.
This is officially a homicide.
Is this the part where you tell me the police can take it from here? On the hunt for the killer, yes.
But it won't be much of a hunt until we know her name, so We'll do whatever it takes.
Is there any way you can get me info on a european cell phone if I don't have the number? Not likely.
You okay? I should never have left him alone at that crime scene.
We didn't know it was a crime scene.
Well, we do now, and whoever Jane Doe was, someone shot Walter because of what was on her cell phone.
Maybe her phone had some kind of secret on it-- Something the killer didn't want other people to see, like government files or something.
You think Jane Doe was a spy? You know, not every British person is 007.
Hey, Walter's not here.
Someone has to say this stuff.
Thank you.
All right.
He's out of surgery, and he's fine.
I think Tyler's on to something.
What other secrets can you keep on a phone? Voice mails, Like if she was having an affair with a married man.
Or maybe the meth on the train was hers, And the phone was full of texts from her dealer.
I don't know many meth-heads who'd stop to help an old man after a train wreck.
You meet a lot of meth-heads in your work as an international spy? Whoever the killer was, it's probably someone who knew Jane Doe's name-- someone who was on that train with her.
The killer found Jane right after the wreck.
They were probably both in that front car.
There's a good chance that the killer was injured as well.
Do we have the list of injured passengers yet? Uh, yeah.
The paramedics took down their names.
So that's 63 suspects.
Wait.
I'm loing at a list from the hospital.
It says they only treated 62.
Did the paramedics miscount? Or did somebody run? Why did you leave the train, Kyle? What train? The train the paramedics pulled you off of.
They took down your name.
And then your mom told us where we could find you.
She sends her love, by the way.
Why didn't you go to the hospital with the other passengers, Kyle? What for? My hand's fine mostly.
Nobody cares about your hand, Kyle.
A woman was murdered.
Whoa! And you think I Oh, man.
No.
Do I ok like a guy who would-- Then explain why you left the crime scene.
Uh The meth we found belonged to you, huh? Oh, please, honey.
I've got bigger fish to fry.
I might have had a couple baggies on me, and that might be why I ran away from the crash.
And that might give Detective Russell probable cause to search your apartment right now.
She said bigger fish! Just tell us everything you know about her.
I saw her before the crash.
She was going from car to car with her cell phone out.
She was talking to someone? No, out in front of her like she was looking for a signal.
Okay, was there anyone with her? Not that I saw, but she was looking over her shoulder-- seemed upset.
Wasn't exactly aware of her surroundings.
Come on.
You robbed her? Her purse was hanging open, and there was one of those orange pill bottles, and it started talking to me.
Was it a prescription bottle? Do you still have it? Was there a name on the label? I don't even remember my own name half the time.
Besides, there were no pills.
Just coins--$3.
50 in change and some weird-ass foreign money.
I kept the change, tossed the bottle.
Look, is there a chance I could get, um My baggie back? Huh? Are you sure he said it was an orange pill bottle? Orange.
This is everything from the train, so it's here somewhere.
Really? Because I looked through all of these, and I just keep finding the same aspirin bottle three damn times.
You doing all right there, Max? I'm way too type "A" for this wild orange Goose bottle goose chase.
Got it.
I looked in that one.
There's no name.
It must have burned off in the wreck, but there's still something there.
"Cladribine.
" what is that, a drug? "Watford.
" that could be her last name.
No, I'm pretty sure that's a small town outside of london.
We were barhopping once.
We got lost, And I'm pretty sure we ended up in Watford.
You know, maybe, uh, maybe she's from there.
Cladribine pills are prescribed to people with multiple sclerosis.
What, so Jane Doe lived in Watford and had M.
S.
? The M.
E.
's report didn't say anything about M.
S.
Maybe these aren't even her pills.
Yeah, but she had to have gotten the bottle from somewhere.
Mm.
Maybe she lived with someone who has m.
S.
, Like a bfriend or a family member.
Yeah.
In a small town like Watford, How many people could there be with M.
S.
? "Watford multiple sclerosis.
" Go.
These are from a fund-raiser held in Watford last year.
There! That's her! That's Jane Doe! "Watford resident Deirdre Clarke has battled M.
S.
for the last five years with the help of her loving daughter Emma"! Emma Clarke! She's got a name! oh! Uh What? Oh.
Sorry.
No hugs? Uh, we're not big huggers, no.
I think that was The Forgotten Network's first hug, actually.
Sorry.
No, no.
Uh, it's fine.
Fine.
We should find a hotel.
Alex, it was just a hug.
No, no, I mean, uh if Emma was a tourist, odds are she was staying in a local hotel room.
Right.
I'll ask Russell to call Watford police and contact her mother.
Deirdre probably knows where her daughter was staying.
And she probably doesn't know that Emma is We don't always give people good news, but we do give them answers.
Miss Clarke was a guest for nearly two weeks.
She seemed to be enjoying herself-- trips to the spa, theater and plenty of room service.
Looks like the room hasn't been touched since she left it.
Definitely enjoying herself.
And it looks like she wasn't alone.
Looks like some kind of wild party.
Grace.
I just met Emma last week.
Oh, my God.
I had no idea that she was And what are you and Mr.
Happy Pants doing in Emma's room? Emma said I could stay here.
And Greg just happened last night.
The train wreck happened two days ago, Brandi.
Didn't you even wonder where Emma was? I know.
I should've.
I know.
I just-- Too busy ordering champagne on her tab? How did you and Emma meet? We met at a spa, getting mani-pedis.
I told her her accent was cool.
We started a conversation.
Before you know it, I was Emma's best friend in Chicago.
After years of sacrifice, I'd forgotten how to just have fun.
I needed someone to show me the way.
I took her to, um, Oak Street The Viceroy, Bar Sinister And you just, uh, lost track of her? Well, we went out Thursday night.
But after the hotel bar, things get kind of fuzzy.
The next morning I woke up here.
Called Emma's cell phone.
She didn't pick up.
Just figured she met a guy.
There wasn't any english tea, so it's irish breakfast.
Hope it's okay.
It's lovely, dear.
Emma used to make us teas from all over.
She said it was our way of seeing the world together.
She was the light of my life So bright and beautiful.
She wanted to study journalism and work for the BBC, but she gave all that up when I took ill.
00 am I wake up and count out her pills.
15, I help her out of bed and get her dressed for the day.
If all's going well, I make breakfast and help her eat.
I didn't mind, really.
She needed me.
I never thought she'd be stuck with me for so long.
But Emma and I come from stubborn stock.
We know.
So how did Emma wind up here? I got a bit of money when my Uncle Charlie passed.
I hired a proper nurse straightaway and sent dear Emma on a long-overdue holiday.
This is not your fault.
I'm not so certain.
Emma didn't want to go.
I insisted.
Because of me, she always had to say no.
I told her that on this trip, I wanted her to say yes.
And now I'm left wondering if this is all because of something she said yes to.
Okay, Maxine, thanks.
How's the new girl working out? She's energetic.
Emma's mother just got here from the U.
K.
, and Walter is on his way home from the hospital.
That's good news.
Yeah, I wish we could just tell him we caught the guy.
Well, I have people checking mr.
Happy pants' alibi, but Brandi doesn't have one.
You think she, uh, killed her for a hotel room? All I know right now is I don't have enough to hold her.
Mm.
But I have some souvenirs from, uh, Emma's travels.
Looks like she hit the Big Apple first-- Lady liberty key chains, some "playbills" from Broadway.
"Mary Poppins" is a play now? W-what about from the time she spent here in Chicago? Receipts from local bars, shops, restaurants.
Well, I don't know what "zenyata" is, But that looks like an address to me.
Let's check it out.
Yeah! Whoo! Man of the day.
There he is.
How are you feeling? Uh, on a scale of one to ten, about a five.
All right.
You know, it's--ooh.
Four and a half.
oh, you're a wuss.
Come here.
Okay.
Ow.
Ow.
Mm.
Oh! Sorry.
Um, I got these for you.
What? Whoa! Box seats to the Blackhawks? Thanks, Maxine! Get well.
I painted this for you.
It's called "gunshot.
" Whoa! That's fantastic.
Thanks, man.
I love it.
And I got you this.
A bulletproof vest? Yes! no way, man! Wait.
What the hell, you guys? Why didn't anyone tell me About giving gifts? Oh Uh Walter, I'm gonna I will bake you a cake You--that's-- you don't have-- or something.
Okay.
I promise.
Ah.
Well, now that you are back in your happy place, Here's the ballistic report of the slug from your shoulder.
It's a .
380, probably from a Browning Automatic.
The police couldn't find any match on the file.
Wait.
So I had surgery for no reason? Okay, can we never tell that part to my wife? We'll add it to the list.
So a woman in a wheelchair just flew 4,000 miles to find out what happened to her daughter, And we are not gonna let her down.
Emma Clarke was caring and loyal.
She gave up her dreams to take care of her mom.
Not just her dreams but everything.
Emma's mother needed help 24/7.
I can't imagine giving up my whole life to take care of someone else.
I can't imagine needing to be taken care of.
If that bullet was a couple inches to the left, Cassie and the kids would have been pushing me around in a wheelchair.
Uh, so we still have to find out what Emma was doing before she got on that train, right? Right.
Um, we got her cell from her mom.
Russell's working to trace the calls.
We got a list of receipts from Emma's hotel room.
That can give us a bunch of stores and bars to check out.
What about that address you found in her hotel room? It was just an empty building-- No signs, no boxes.
There wasn't even any trash on the ground.
And we still don't know what zenyata is.
I googled it and got nothing.
'cause it's spelled wrong.
Ex-nee-a-ta? Xiniata.
It's just spelled weird.
I heard it's, like, a roving nightclub.
A bunch of successful guys pay big bucks to throw wild parties full of hot girls at secret locations all over the city.
And you know about this because I'm in real estate.
Apparently, sometimes cash-strapped property owners rent out empty buildings to these guys.
Can you find out if they had a party the night before the train wreck? Even if they did, you'd never be able to tell.
Why not? After every event, they have the location thoroughly cleaned.
It's part of the whole "secret" vibe.
This place was spotless, and Brandi said that she and Emma went out that night.
I'm willing to bet this is where they went.
Bunch of rich and powerful types with who knows what kind of criminal pathologies lurking in the deep, dark recesses of their minds.
He's back.
So Russell said she's in 22.
Okay, wait a second, though.
What exactly is our plan? Well, we're just gonna tell her we heard about these xiniata parties and say we want in.
Right, but from who? She's gonna want a name.
Maybe at first, but I'll chat her up a little.
I can be pretty charming.
Really? Did you bring one of your "gunshot" paintings? She's obviously not home, and it's getting late.
My guess is that she won't be back till half past walk of shame.
So let's just go.
Wait.
Don't you think we should Hang out In case she comes home? Okay.
So is this like a stakeout-hang out or just a hang out-hang out? Definitely stakeout-hang out mostly.
Small amount of hang out-hang out.
Are you gonna ask to sketch me or something? Not on the first stakeout-hang out.
I'm a gentleman.
So what's the plan now? I don't know, but I have a feeling it's gonna involve me holding her hair back while she pukes.
Aah! Whoa, whoa, whoa! So I've got units looking for Brandi and that black sedan, but without a plate number that's a long shot.
I'm still trying to get Emma's cell records, but with an overseas carrier there's a ton of red tape.
What about xiniata? Brandi took Emma to that party.
Now Brandi's missing and Emma's dead.
We need to look at that guest list.
And as much as I wish your hunches could get me a search warrant You think one of the forensic accountants could help me dummy up some financial records? I don't know what you're planning, Alex, but I know I'm against it.
Maxine tracked down a friend who knows a friend who knows a guy.
Looks like I'm about to join xiniata.
Yeah, financials look good.
All right, Alex.
So you want in? Well, Brice, I work hard.
I think that entitles me to play hard, if you know what I mean.
I don't know what you heard, but I don't want you getting the wrong idea here.
These--these are just parties.
Then why all the, uh, cloak and dagger? It's just for fun.
Look, xiniata is an exclusive society for Chicago's young elite.
We keep out the riffraff.
We don't want anything dangerous or illegal.
I just want to meet gorgeous women.
Well, those rumors are true, my friend.
Our guest list has some of the hottest girls in the city, and they get $300 for bringing a friend.
So there's always new talent flowing through.
Where's the money come from? From your dues.
Oh.
That's why we're checking your financials.
See, for $4,000 a month, you get access to all the biggest parties with all the best people.
Listen, if I'm gonna fork over 4k to be around all the "best people," I'd really like to get a look at that guest list.
I'd love to, but it's a private society, remember? Mm.
What happens in Vegas might stay in Vegas, but what happens at xiniata just didn't happen.
I like that.
Did you come up with that? I did.
That's good.
Kind of proud of that.
Yeah.
Look, Alex, if you want to get to know our members, why don't you become one, hmm? Listen, there's no guarantees, but if you are accepted, we're gonna contact you.
I just--I just need that deposit.
It's 4k, right? Mm-hmm.
That's nonrefundable, by the way.
Okay, so if Emma's mother and Walter's bullet weren't reason enough, I need us to solve this case before that check clears.
Well, at least yours will clear, because mine would have totally bounced.
Detective Russell e-mailed me.
There's still no luck on finding Brandi or the car that took her.
Wait.
Russell e-mailed you? She told me that was against regulations.
Tyler and I checked out some of the bars and shops that Emma went to, and we found a bartender who remembered Brandi and Emma.
But he didn't say who they were with or where they were headed.
And we're still waiting for Emma's cell phone records, so I've been researching her phone, trying to figure out what was worth shooting me over.
Uh, that model has text, web, e-mail and a pretty good camera.
Um, if she did go to a wild party, maybe she took some pictures of something somebody didn't want getting out.
Yeah, like a pro athlete cheating on his wife or a celebrity doing drugs.
The head honcho at xiniata says they don't allow drugs at those parties.
Technically, neither does Amsterdam.
Exactly.
So we won't know what she saw until we know who was on that guest list.
Well, I have been trying to hunt down a guest list online ooh.
And so far, epic failure.
Well, I can tell you one name who's on that list.
I'm in.
Looks like there's a party this evening.
Who wants to be my plus one? I'd love to put on a sexy dress and get drunk, but unfortunately, I have to convince three very unsexy germans that Chicago needs another office building.
Mm.
Oh, mm.
Mnh-mnh.
? if you are what you say you are ? ? a superstar ? ? then have no fear ? ? the camera is here ? ? and the microphones ? ? and they wanna know, oh, oh ? You look Thanks.
You too.
Mm.
Shall we? I heard about that hug, you know.
Don't get any ideas.
? Let's keep a low profile.
If the bouncers find out we're asking about a murder, we won't last long.
Hey, you.
Have you seen my friend? She was supposed to meet me here.
How about I'm your friend now, baby? Stay classy, baby.
? Whoo! Well, I was a long way from Watford, wasn't I? It was a bit overwhelming, but I'd seen the world through the glass of my mom's kitchen window for far too long, And I knew how fleeting life could be.
I didn't fly halfway around the world to watch.
I came here to live.
? You're looking pretty good for a kidnap victim.
What are you, like, followimg me? Who took you, and what did they want? Nobody took me.
A friend pulled me into his car.
It was a joke.
Which friend? Is he here? Look, Brandi, I think you know what happened to Emma, and someone threatened you in that car to keep quiet.
Everything okay? Drink's on him.
? That was Brandi? That was Brandi.
Did you find out anything? No.
You know her? Uh, in a way.
Do you? I served her at the last party.
She was kind of out of her element.
She didn't know how to get rid of pushy guys.
Which guys? The worst one was Rufus.
He was all over her on the dance floor-- wouldn't leave her alone.
Alex--nose.
Let's see if he was in that crash.
You lied to me, bro, and I told you that we kick out riffraff.
Then you're gonna have to kick him out, too.
Hey, Rufus! ? Sorry about your dress.
Eh.
It's Maxine's.
Oh.
Alex Donovan.
What in the hell is wrong with you? Look, Grace No good explanation is possible for this situation.
I am doing this one time, and I'm not doing it again.
You hear me? Nice dress.
Uh, for the record, we, uh, we did get you a suspect, and we should talk to Brandi.
I think she knows who killed Emma.
She was here, but she took off I am a Detective, you know.
Okay.
Yeah, I danced with her.
So what? I hear Emma didn't like your moves.
Girls at those parties expect you to take control.
I squeezed her ass, not her neck.
But I think you know who did, and you're just too scared to say who.
I don't have to tell you anything.
Emma's mother just lost her little girl, Brandi.
You took Emma to that party.
You owe it to her to tell somebody the truth.
So let's start out with that bandage.
How'd you hurt your nose? Why don't you ask your friend? He's the one who attacked me at the party.
I've got witnesses who say you showed up that way.
So what happened? Did you break it on the train? I don't know how she ended up on that train.
I don't know how she wound up dead.
She's just a girl that I took to a party to make 300 bucks.
$300.
Is that what her life is worth to you? What about my life? Nothing I do can bring her back.
But if I help you, I am done at xiniata.
Any guy there can give me a life, a car What--a rich husband? That's what this is all about? I'm not stupid.
I'm not gonna look like this forever.
You want to take a ride to the morgue and see what Emma looks like right now? They're just parties, Brandi.
There's a whole world of men out there who will like you for more than how you look, who won't pull you into cars ang threaten you or hurt your friends.
Please, just tell me what you know.
What happens at xiniata never happened.
But it did happen, and until you tell me about it, I will be at your house, your office, the gym where you work out and the bars-- it was her, all right? Emma broke my nose.
When I wouldn't back off, she hit me with a beer bottle and split.
Then what? You were so pissed you followed her on to the train? No, I took a cab to the E.
R.
And you claim that's the last time you saw her.
Actually, I ran into her on the way out.
I told her I was gonna sue, but she just walked right past me.
She looked like she'd seen a ghost.
How'd it go in there? He's lucky I didn't have a beer bottle, too.
Anything from Brandi? She's just a big pile of selfish crazy.
I think she'd do anything to keep the party going, including covering up a murder.
And until we can put Rufus on that train with Emma, I can't make an arrest.
Okay, so all we have to do is go back in time.
tell us again about the night of the crash.
There must be somebody else who can help.
There were--there were a lot of people on that train.
We talked to everyone we could find.
Only a few remember seeing Emma, and no one saw anyone with her.
You said that Emma came to you looking for help.
We think someone was following her.
I-I told you everything I know.
I don't remember anybody else.
I can't help you, all right? Just like I couldn't help her.
Please, just try.
Where were you standing? Uh This It was right here.
Where was Emma standing? She was, uh, Right Yeah, right there.
All right.
The track's out.
You know you're gonna crash.
You come running back here.
What do you say? I say, uh, get down.
I can't stop the train.
Everybody, get down.
Okay, now you look up.
You see her.
What does she say? I just--I don't remember.
I can't remember.
I She-- she just came up to me Step closer.
What is it? The door.
When she moved forward, I could see the door between the cars, and there was somebody coming through.
No.
No, it was a man, but no, it wasn't him.
But I can see his face.
I remember his face.
I'm gonna call the department for a sketch artist.
Tyler's better.
They're broke.
Xiniata-- I think they're broke.
What? I was hunting for their guest list.
When you got that xiniata text, I wrote down the phone number, pulled in a few favors with my good arm.
A man on a mission.
I figured if I got their phone records, I could see which numbers got the texts and work backwards to a guest list.
Their account's past due? Haven't paid their bill in three months.
Those parties cost a fortune.
If they're not bringing in enough money in dues, xiniata could be running like a ponzi scheme.
Yeah.
So what if Emma had a picture on her phone that made xiniata look bad and their members want to quit? Their whole thing could come crashing down.
Yeah.
I've been waiting for an e-mail from Tyler.
This could be the sketch of the man on the train.
C.
E.
O.
Of xiniata-- Brice Waldren.
All right, I'm gonna go see if he's here, okay? Alex.
Looks like Brice is trying to leave town.
Call Russell.
Tell her to hurry.
I'm gonna try and stall him.
Hey, Brice! I just want to talk.
Hey! You okay? Yeah, yeah.
Go, go, go! Oh.
Two minutes to the next stop.
You really think you're gonna last that long? Hmm? Aah! Ohh.
You weren't on the injured passengers list.
You took off before the paramedics showed up, Didn't you? Walter's bullet sealed the deal.
The ballistics are a match for Brice's gun.
Ha ha! In your face, doctor-who- said-I-shouldn't-have-surgery.
Yeah! This plus the, uh, conductor's testimony is enough to charge him with Emma's murder.
But we still don't know what happened that night.
What did Emma see? Alex, we got an e-mail from Emma.
I don't type very well, so Emma worked the computer.
I hadn't looked in weeks.
But there was a message waiting.
It was from her phone.
The night that she died, Emma sent this file.
I was used to having choices made for me.
So when I finally went off the beaten path, I wasn't sure how to handle what I found.
It would have been safer to keep going and not look back, But after years without any choice I'm filming you! You need to stop! I knew I had to make the right one.
Maybe it was a foolish choice.
It put me in harm's way.
It put me on that train.
But it was my choice My life, and I wouldn't have lived it any other way.
I'm filming you! You need to stop! What? I'm gonna kill you, you bitch! I'll add assault and attempted rape to the charges.
But without Emma to testify in court, there's not much we can-- I'll do it.
I was there with Emma.
A lot of things happened at those parties.
I just kept thinking, one more shot, one more guy might make me forget.
I guess I needed someone to tell me it was okay to remember.
We like to pretend we're on a course, That we know what's coming next.
But the truth is, none of us knows where we're heading.
We're all just finding our own way, really Making our own choices.
The best we can hope for is that we leave A good trail behind, that our journey Might somehow light the way for someone else.
We have reason to believe you've been a victim of assault.
He said I'd never be able to prove it.
You can, because of her.
My name is Emma Clarke.
All right, Maxine, you called this meeting.
What do you got? A new Doe? Maxine's first case.
Wait, should there be some rule, Like no Doe for the first three months--probationary period? I thought she was your lighthouse.
Well, yeah, but-- Guys, guys.
I got pizza and beer.
That's it, you know? We found Emma's name.
We caught her killer.
I just thought we could celebrate.
Deep-dish? Is there any other kind? all right! Yeah! Yes! Very nice! All right, I'm hugging everybody, so deal with it.
Oh, okay.
All right.
Oh! Be careful over here.
She's a hugger.
Hugs, beer--all right.
He's still a little sore.
