Hunter Street (2017) s01e15 Episode Script

The Maze

Are you sure you're up for this? Somebody's gotta do it.
It may as well be me.
I'll go.
Searching for a diamond in a scary maze of tunnels is an adult's job.
You're just an almost adult and you're not even that much older than me.
Besides, you need to stay here and take care of everybody.
Let me come with you.
I'm sorry, Anika.
I can help! What if there's a tiny passageway that you can't fit through? You need me.
I mean, I'd go, but I think I'd be more useful here.
Yeah, no, yeah, same.
Actually I could use you.
Yeah, well who couldn't, you know? But I got a lot to do here.
I gotta help Sal with his, his thing and It's called a walkie-talkie.
Yeah, I know what it's called, okay? And I got take care of Anika.
You know how you want me to cut the strawberries into your cereal? I hate strawberries.
I love bananas.
Yeah, that's what I meant.
Look, we all know you're afraid of the dark.
And tight, enclosed spaces.
And rats and any other things that might be living down there.
Like spiders.
Okay, okay, hey, I'm not afraid, okay? I'm just a little Phobic? Yes.
What does phobic mean? Afraid.
Don't worry, Max.
Everybody has their weak spots.
You just have a lot more than most people.
Okay, I'm going in.
Sal, can you hear me? Loud and clear.
What do you see? Not much.
It's cold here.
So the moving dot is Tess, right? Yep, it's a signal.
That's so we can trace her.
But how does she know where to go? We'll guide her.
Cool.
The blue diamond is our house.
If it all goes according to plan, it'll lead her right to the Red Diamond.
Which way is south? Just keep going straight.
I'll get it.
No, just ignore it, they'll go away.
Could be important.
Hey, Daniel.
Mind if I come in, say hello? Um, actually, uh, we're just about to head out.
Where are you off to? Oh, you know errands, uh things to do, places to go, people to see.
You wouldn't be trying to hide something from me, would you? What would I be trying to hide? That we're on some secret mission through a network of hidden tunnels? I just have this feeling that you're not telling me something.
And that worries me.
I thought we were in this together.
You kids and Simone and me.
You and Simone? What, are you guys like a couple now? Well, I'm not exactly sure what you'd call it, but she's special and sweet and funny.
Yeah, well, that's just dandy.
I'm really happy for you.
Okay, well, bye! Daniel? Daniel? Come back here! You're doing great.
Take the next left.
Is she going the right way? Yep.
Don't worry.
With this system, you can't get lost.
There's a number.
What do you mean, a number? It's painted on the wall.
A nine.
I heard something.
What? I'm gonna check it out.
No, Tess, stay on course! Tess? Tess! Tess! There's nothing here.
It's just a wall.
Guys, I could use a little help.
Uh, now anybody?! Tess! Where is she? Tess! Why isn't she answering? Sal, look.
Her dot is gone.
Where is she? All right, I'm going after her.
But what about your phobias? They don't matter.
You go, Max.
Sal? Sal, can you hear me? No.
Oh Great.
What's up with these numbers? Sweater? Sandwiches? Water.
Flashlight.
What else do you need? Ooh, maybe some comic books in case you get bored.
I'm not going on a long bus ride.
I'm just gonna go get Tess and come straight back.
All right, I tied one end of this to the stairway.
You sure it's long enough? It should be enough.
Let's hope that our phones have better reception down there.
You sure you don't want me to go? No, Tess was right.
You gotta stay here and take care of Sal and Anika.
Let's hope our phones have a better signal down there.
How you doing, Max? Well I'm in a tunnel and I'm not freaking out, so I guess that means I'm good.
You're getting close to where we lost contact with Tess.
And suddenly I'm not so good.
Tess? Talk to me, Max.
Max! Sal, you there? Are you still Max Anybody? Max? Anybody? Max! Dude, talk, I can't hear you.
Sal, are you Did it disconnect? Hello? Everything is gonna be okay, man.
You're good.
Tess? Call him again.
Hey, this is Max.
I'm not here at the moment, so please leave a message.
Bye.
Voicemail.
Oh, bingo.
Tess? He's gone! That's the same place we lost contact with Tess.
He must have gone the same way she did.
I hope the thread works.
Guys, maybe we should, uh, get some help.
Help? From who? I don't know, an adult? But you're an adult! Yeah I'm an almost adult.
Who do you wanna call? Tim! No! But maybe, uh Simone! Gertrude, uh can I help you? Oh.
I believe you might be in need of a little help yourself.
Max? You okay? Yeah.
What are you doing? Well, you know, I went to find a donut, but there's too much traffic, so I decided to come this way instead.
I'm kidding.
You forgot your lunch.
What? I came to find you.
You disappeared.
Even though you're afraid of the dark and tunnels and rats? Gah yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm a great guy, yeah.
That was really brave of you, Max.
And really sweet.
Look what I found.
These numbers.
I saw the nine.
What do you think they mean? No idea.
Maybe Sal could figure it out.
Let's go back.
We have to find the diamond first, and I bet these numbers have something to do with it.
Okay, well, let's go back to the nine.
At least the walkies work there.
We can call Sal.
Go back? Ah, it's all good.
I got this string.
No! It must have got caught on something and ripped.
Uh, that didn't rip.
That was cut.
Which means We're not alone? I set the walkies to transmit over extremely low frequencies, which should be able to pass through the tunnel walls.
But at this point, it just cuts off.
This is truly incredible.
We've been looking for so long.
Do you think there are bats down there or alligators, like in the sewer? There are no alligators in the sewer.
Uh-uh, don't you know about all the people who get baby alligators as pets and then flush 'em down the toilet when they get too big? There must be millions of 'em.
No, that's just an urban legend.
But I do know there's rats down there.
Big rats? Like uh like about that yeah.
Who would have thought old Cassandra would stash the diamond underground? But why didn't she just put it in a safe or something? Why go through all the trouble of building an underground maze? Oh, the tunnel complex was there all along.
The smugglers and secret traders have used it throughout history.
Smuggling tunnels? Cassandra was in love with your ancestor, Kees Hunter.
She was very jealous of his wife, her younger sister, Josephine.
She was the one who Jan Saganash gave the Red Diamond to, right? According to the story, Cassandra stole the Red Diamond and hid it because her sister was loved by two men and she had no one.
But I thought Jan took the diamond with him to Indonesia.
Perhaps, perhaps not.
Either way, jealousy is a terrible disease.
It takes you to the darkest places in your soul.
Speaking of dark places, how do we get Tess and Max back? We'll have to wait for the cavalry, I guess.
Calling Sal.
Sal, you there? Sal.
We're just gonna have to find the diamond ourselves.
You mean find a way out.
Right! After we find the diamond.
Seriously? We're lost.
You think we're just gonna find a diamond somewhere? It could be anywhere.
Give me that map.
Do you know what they do in movies? What? Run! Sal calling Tess.
Come in, Tess.
Oh, what's keeping the cavalry? Do you think there are mutant cockroaches down there too? What's the difference between a mutant and a regular cockroach? The size.
I heard the mutant ones can be as big as cats! What about zombies or vampires? Oh, it's perfect for vampires.
Pitch black, no daylight, ooh Vampires.
Relax, it's broad daylight.
Simone? I got an anonymous call that something was up.
Is everything all right? You brought him? We were having lunch together.
Oh, well, uh, everything's under control.
Why don't you go get dessert or something, huh? We don't need your help.
Don't need our help doing what, exactly? Oh, uh Daniel, I promised your mom and dad I'd take care of you.
If you don't want to tell me what's going on, I'll find out myself.
Hey Where do we go?! I don't know! Follow me! I think we lost him.
We have to get out of here, like, right now.
Well, which way? Okay Heads we go right, tails we go left.
You're literally flipping a coin?! Do you have a better idea? I got nothin'.
Okay Tails! Aha, the cavalry at last.
What is all this? A command center for a diamond hunt.
Impressive, huh? These children are very bright.
Tess and Max are lost in the tunnels and they might get eaten by alligators or vampires.
What tunnels? The old smuggler tunnels under the city.
That sounds really dangerous.
We have to get them out of there now! Yeah that's a bit of a problem.
We don't know where they are and we can't pick them up on the computer or the walkie-talkie.
Well, obviously you don't have one of these bad boys.
It's got the most sensitive receiver of any two-way radio on the market.
If anything can pick up their signal down there this can.
I'm going in.
I'm coming with you.
That's very brave of you, Daniel, but it's really Not necessary, 'cause I'm coming.
I'll take that jacket, though.
My brother and sister are down there! Who are my responsibility, just like you are! Stop arguing! I'll take Daniel.
You need to stay with Anika and Sal in case something goes wrong.
Can we just go? It's gonna be okay.
Max? Tess? Do you hear me? Max, Tess, do you read? Do you think we're going in circles? Max, Tess, can you h Could that be Simone? Maybe.
Simone? Hello? Are you there? We're lost.
Could this day get any worse? Hey! Tess! He got the map! Max, Tess, do you hear me? We'll never catch him.
Yeah, yeah, we hear you.
One of Saganash's henchmen is down here.
He just stole the map.
Okay, take it easy.
I'm in the tunnels with Daniel.
Do you know where you are? No, no idea.
Sal, I managed to get Tess and Max on the walkie.
They're together.
They're both okay.
Do you guys see a nine on the wall? That's where Max and Tess went when they left the main tunnel.
Just passed the nine, we're heading left.
See if Max and Tess know how many turns they made after the nine.
We'll ask them.
Max, do you and Tess remember what you did after you turned at the nine? Um After I saw the nine, I went left, then left again, then right.
Okay, stay where you are.
We're on our way.
Let me go first in case we run into Saganash.
Simone? Simone? Hello? Hey! Hey! Oh So good to see you guys.
I'm so happy to see you guys too.
Okay, let's get out of here.
Yeah.
We have to go back and find the diamond before Saganash does.
No way.
It's too dangerous.
I'm sure your parents would agree.
You're way more valuable than any diamond.
Simone's right.
You've done an outstanding job, but it's just too risky.
Actually I don't think the diamond is even down there.
What? You think the map is bogus? Not bogus.
Just a piece of the puzzle.
I think the whole point of the map was to lead us to the numbers.
But what do they mean? Sorry, man.
You know what? I think I'm okay with it.
A guy's gotta know when to quit, right? They say Cassandra did get married in the end to one of the sailors on Jan Saganash's ship and supposedly he survived the shipwreck.
So, he knew where the ship went down.
The numbers are map coordinates! Longitude and latitude! Oh, I'm lost.
Anyplace on Earth can be pinpointed to an exact location using number called longitude and latitude.
That's an island in the Java Sea! That must be where the shipwreck is! And the Red Diamond! Way to go, Sal.
You are all so smart! I'm gonna have to compliment your parents when they return.
So, you wanna grab something to eat? Yeah.
I know this great restaurant down the road.
Let's go.
Have fun, you guys.
Have I ever let you down, sir? We got the parents out of the picture.
Now we just need to take care of the kids.
Then the house will be ours.
We'll talk again tomorrow.
Okay.
Good night, Mr.
Saganash.
You better deliver.
