[♪♪♪]
[GROWLING]
[BIRD SCREECHING]
[SCREECHING GETS LOUDER]
[SCREECHING]
[SCREECHES]
Turu, Turu! He come!
[SCREECHES]
[SCREECHES]
[SCREECHES]
[SCREECHES]
[SCREECHES]
[SCREAMS]
No, no, Nuago! Nuago!
[BIRD SCREECHING]
Any luck, Hadji?
Not yet, Jonny
[FISHING LINE SPINS]
Hey!
You got a bite. Bring it in!
Quick, Jonny, get the
net. It feels like a big one.
[FISHING LINE SPINS]
HADJI: Get him in the net.
JONNY: Careful,
Bandit, he looks mean.
Leave him there a minute.
They'll give you a bad bite.
[SNIFFS]
[BARKS]
That's telling him, Bandit.
[BARKS]
Whoops, look out.
He's got a mouthful
of sharp teeth.
[GROWLS]
[YELPS]
[YELPING CONTINUES]
What's the matter, Bandit?
The kids picking on you?
Troubles, old boy?
[WHIMPERS]
RACE: Looks like
one of his dog days.
[LAUGHS]
I'll go check on the boys.
Look here, Race.
This sample proves it.
There is trinauxite
somewhere near here.
Trinauxite?
Yes, a new metal,
and absolutely essential
to the space program.
Where does it come from?
Right around here somewhere.
DOCTOR: Take a look.
There are many trinauxite
mines in the world,
but none half as pure
as this sample assays.
RACE: Where did
this sample come from?
DOCTOR: Someplace upriver.
A native and his
brother gave it to me
and said it came from
the land of the Turu.
Land of the Turu?
Yes, Race.
And we've got to find it
before somebody else does.
JONNY: Dad! Race!
HADJI: Quick, come out here!
Sounds urgent.
Let's go.
Look, an empty canoe.
DOCTOR: Race, get the boat.
There's someone in that canoe.
Okay, hold it there.
Is he alive?
I don't know.
Let's get him aboard
and head for shore.
Turn him over, Race.
Okay.
That's him.
Who?
One of the brothers who
gave me the ore sample.
[MOANS]
He's coming to.
Turu. Nuago!
Turu, Turu!
DOCTOR: Jonny,
run up to the ore lab
and get my bag.
We've got to bring
this fellow around.
Okay, Dad. I'll be right back.
Turu.
What does Turu mean, doctor?
Turu means "bird".
Bird?
Yes.
We'll bring him to
and try to get his story.
DOCTOR: That's impossible, Okku.
No bird alive could be
big enough to lift a man.
Sí, sí, big Turu.
Big bird take Nuago.
This Turu.
This Turu me see.
This Turu have skin,
no feather. He fly.
DOCTOR: That's impossible.
RACE: What is it?
It's a likeness of
the pteranodon.
RACE: Well, there hasn't
been a pteranodon on this planet
for a million years.
Me see, me see him
take Nuago. Me see.
Who's Nuago?
Okku's brother.
Why, it's incredible.
It's unbelievable.
DOCTOR: Where
is this Turu, Okku?
Where bright rock comes from.
One day, maybe two days upriver.
My brother gave you stone
from land of Turu.
Of course, the trinauxite.
Race, make arrangements
to charter a boat.
Right away, doctor.
And you boys get packed.
We're going on a trip.
Okku, you will come
with us be our guide.
No. Turu, Turu come!
We'll take care of Turu,
and nothing will happen to you.
Doctor, you really think
there is a giant bird?
Well, there may be some
large species in that area,
but big bird or no,
we've got to find the source
of that trinauxite ore.
Let's get moving,
fellows. This is important.
Look, Jonny. The river narrows.
Hey, yeah.
Hey, Dad. The jungle looks
kind of spooky up ahead!
Yes, it looks dark
and mysterious.
It's dark all right, but
it isn't too mysterious.
Bad crocodile country
coming up pretty soon.
RACE: Crocs won't attack a boat,
will they, Skipper?
I've never heard of it.
Mister, you haven't seen crocs
till you've seen these.
They'll attack anything
if they're hungry enough.
Just keep your
eyes peeled, is all.
Look, Hadji!
Crocodiles!
JONNY: They're
heading for the boat!
Over here too. Look.
Dad, crocodiles.
A whole bunch of
them big ones!
I see them, Jonny.
Grab guns, everybody.
JONNY: Here, Hadji.
[CROCODILES SNARLING]
Let them have it. Keep shooting.
How about that!
[BARKS]
HADJI: You said it, Bandit. Wow.
DOCTOR: Wow. I
never saw such big ones.
RACE: Never saw one
attack a boat before, either.
Now, just a word of advice.
If you kids want to
stay out of trouble,
keep your eyes open,
and don't be acting
like you're on a city street.
This jungle'll bite you if
you don't keep on your toes.
You get me?
BOTH: Yes, sir.
All right,
now stand by,
and the queen'll have you
there in just about an hour.
Well, so far, so
good, eh, doctor?
Yes, Race, and
surprisingly peaceful.
[SCREECHING]
What was that?
Turu, Turu, Turu!
You hear that, Hadji?
Yes, Jonny, yes.
[WHIMPERS]
Quick, douse the
lights. Get that fire out.
[TURU SCREECHING]
Okku, whatever you
said about that Turu thing,
you didn't say enough.
He must be bigger
than an elephant.
[SCREECHING]
[SCREECHING]
Into the tents, everybody.
[TURU SCREECHING]
You You blasted gooney bird!
[SCREECHING]
[HONKING]
MAN: Turu, Turu!
[WHIMPERING]
That's it, Turu, come on.
Good Turu. Don't feel
badly because you failed.
You will hunt the
intruders tomorrow.
[COOING]
Come now. We will go to the top.
I must rest.
In, Turu, in.
Rest, Turu, while I
speak to the workers.
MAN: Listen to me.
Some of you have
tried to escape.
There is no escape
from Turu or my plateau.
As Turu captured you,
so will he capture
the intruders below.
Meanwhile, you will
continue your work.
Do you understand?
[WORKERS MUTTERING]
Good. Are there any questions?
When we go home?
Until all this precious metal
is mined,
you will stay.
But we have families.
Enough! Do not argue.
It will be as I say.
[WORKERS MUTTERING]
Stop!
I know what you're thinking.
Attack me,
and Turu will kill you all!
[SCREECHES]
[LAUGHS]
Confounded gooney bird.
Morning, Hadji. Hey,
where's Dad and Race?
Race said they were going
to do some exploring.
Oh.
What do you think, Race?
Well, there's no way up there,
except by helicopter.
Or a rocket belt.
You think that thing's up there?
I think so.
Wait, look, that's it.
It can't be.
It can't be, but it is.
It's a man.
A man and a pteranodon.
A-ha. White men.
They want my precious metal.
Kill, Turu, kill!
[SCREECHES]
RACE: Look out.
He's coming after us.
Quick, into the jungle.
[SCREECHING]
Sounds like he landed.
Yes, better get down low, Race.
[SCREECHES]
Come on, let's get back to camp.
You bet. That was
too close for me.
I know it's hard to believe,
but it's a trained pteranodon
Trained to kill.
But who trained it?
DOCTOR: I don't know,
but he's got to be stopped,
and now.
[TURU SCREECHES]
I guess he gave up on us.
HADJI: How're you
gonna stop him?
I don't know,
but I have a hunch
our source of trinauxite
is up there, so we'll
use rocket belts.
And we'll take a bazooka.
You all stay
together on the boat.
Don't get separated.
Come on, Race.
Let's get the
equipment checked out.
We better go up the
back side of the cliff.
Yes, keep out of sight.
Well, doctor, let's go.
Fly in close to the cliff, Race.
We'll be less conspicuous.
Uh-oh, he spotted us.
[SCREECHES]
Quick, Race, behind
these boulders!
[TURU SCREECHES]
Wow.
Watch it, Race.
He's coming back.
[SCREECHES]
Doctor, look out!
[SCREECHES]
He's got me, Race.
Use the bazooka.
This has to work.
Oh, he dropped him. Use
your rocket belt, doctor.
[BUTTON CLICKS]
Are you all right, Dad?
I'm okay, thanks to Race,
but it was a
horrible experience.
That thing gripped my
arm like a giant vise.
You think we ought
to try it again, doctor?
We've got to, Race,
but not until after dark.
I wonder if that thing
can see in the dark.
I hope not.
Believe me, I've got
a lot more respect
for the prehistoric man.
No sign of any living thing yet.
Looks peaceful, doesn't it?
With that creature
around, it can't be.
RACE: How about those buildings?
DOCTOR: Let's go have a look.
[ROCKET BELTS START UP]
Careful now. Keep low.
DOCTOR: This must be
where he keeps that animal.
RACE: Wonder where he is now.
Asleep, I hope.
Shh. Listen.
[RATTLING NOISES]
Sounds like digging.
RACE: Seems to be
coming from over there.
[BANGING]
[SPEAKING FOREIGN LANGUAGE]
[WORKERS MUTTERING]
All right, all right, fellows.
Now, don't get excited.
They don't seem hostile.
Let's find out
what this is all about, Race.
So that's it, huh?
He made slaves of
you and killed others.
And all for what he
thought was silver.
Thought?
That's right. This isn't silver.
It's the purest trinauxite ore
I've ever seen.
This find will save
years in the space race.
What about this character
in the wheelchair?
Well, obviously,
he belongs in an institution.
And the pteranodon?
I'd love to capture him,
but I'm afraid it's him or us.
[TURU SCREECHES]
[WORKERS MUTTERING]
Turu. Turu. Him come.
Let's go, Race.
Looks like this is it.
[TURU WHIMPERS]
MAN: Never mind, Turu.
Never mind.
We'll get the white
men tomorrow.
Right now, we'll
both get some rest.
In, Turu, in.
[SCREECHES]
What's wrong, Turu?
What do you see?
Some of my workers
out of the mine, eh?
No, it's the white men!
Kill, Turu, kill!
[SCREECHES]
Here he comes.
What a monster.
MAN: Kill, Turu, kill!
[SCREECHES]
[BAZOOKA SHOT]
RACE: Missed him.
Try it again.
[SCREECHES]
You hit him.
Yes, but he's only hurt.
[TURU SCREECHING]
Where is he? I
lost him in the mist.
Over here, Race.
He's coming in low.
[SCREECHES]
[SHOT FIRED]
[SCREECHES]
Wow. What's going on up there?
[BAZOOKA FIRES]
Sounds like war.
It sounds like trouble.
[SCREECHES]
He's coming this way.
Everybody, hit the deck.
You crazy baboon!
[SCREECHES]
Here he comes again.
RACE: Hey, what's
that he's got with him?
DOCTOR: Why it's
it's part of the boat
The boys!
[SCREECHES]
Get him, Race.
[SCREECHES]
[BAZOOKA FIRES]
Watch it, doctor!
[CRASHING]
MAN: You fools!
[LAUGHS] You can't kill Turu.
Kill them, Turu, kill!
[SCREECHES]
Shoot for his head.
We're not hurting him this way.
[SCREECHES]
[SHOT FIRED]
Duck, Race. He's
coming right at us.
[WINGS FLAPPING LOUDLY]
Phew.
[SCREECHES]
You've You've
hurt him, you fools.
You've hurt him!
Aim for his head
again. He's wobbly.
[SCREECHES]
[BAZOOKA FIRES]
You got him, Race.
He's falling toward the tar pit.
[SCREECHING]
No, no, Turu. You can't die.
No, Turu
[SCREECHES]
That crazy old man.
He's heading for the pit.
He'll fall in Wait.
I will save you, Turu.
Oh, no.
Poor devil.
[TAR BUBBLING]
RACE: I wish we
could have saved him.
DOCTOR: There wasn't a chance.
Well, what now, doctor?
Let me have your flashlight.
I want to signal the boat.
What is he saying, Jonny?
He wants to know
if we're all right.
I'll answer him, son.
What's the answer?
Everything A-okay, but
But what?
The skipper is saying
something about the bird
and the boat.
What about them?
Please, Race.
You know I never use
that kind of language.
[BOTH LAUGH]
It is so quiet.
I am afraid.
[FOOTSTEPS APPROACHING]
Shh, somebody come.
RACE: Okay,
fellows. It's all over.
You are all free,
so head for home
and your families.
ALL: Thank you. Oh, thank you.
Well, there's a
real happy group.
Yeah, makes you
feel kind of good.
Well, Race, let's get
back to our group.
[JONNY PLAYING HARMONICA]
CAPTAIN: Blasted gooney bird
wrecked my boat.
Very good, my boy.
RACE: Yeah. Great, Jonny.
How do you feel, Nuago,
after the ride that
big bird gave you?
Arm much sore.
OKKU: Glad to have brother back.
Much thanks to Dr. Quest
and Race Bannon.
Thanks to you, Okku.
Yes, sir, many thanks
for leading us
to that trinauxite.
[CHOMP]
What happened, Jonny?
That crazy croc
snapped a stick in half.
[BARKING]
JONNY: That's it, Bandit.
You tell him.
Hooray for Bandit.
He chased him away.
Oh, he's a real
genuine crocodile hound.
Shh.
HADJI: Look, Bandit,
I'm a big bad crocodile.
[WHIMPERS]
Aw, come on, Bandit.
Hadji was only playing.
Yes, I'm sorry honest.
Poor little Bandito.
He is very brave.
He is not afraid of crocodiles.
[BARKING]
