Mercy s01e19 Episode Script

There is No Superwoman

Hey! Who the hell are you? I'm a nurse.
Is she dead? Just take the money and go.
Don't lie to me! Get me the morphine.
Lauren, how can I do this for you? I sent you to the drugstore.
When you returned, I was unresponsive.
The family of Lauren kempton has some questions regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.
The insurance company thinks it's odd, don't you? Can I, uh, take you out to dinner? Nurse Payne is not allowed to date patients.
What is wrong with you? I just like to do stuff and see what happens.
This hit you took it wasn't that bad.
It was bad enough to make you faint.
Ah! You know that thing you asked me yesterday? Ask me again.
You sure this is it? It's the right address.
He said, "cocktail party"? He did use those words, right? He said, "get-together.
" He said, "bring some friends.
" Got some more pizza! Coming through.
Where do you want the keg? He did not say, "frat party.
" Ladies, you made it.
Can I get you a beverage? We have natty light.
Nothing but the best for Mercy's finest.
Thank you so much for your invitation.
I just, um I don't think that this is my scene.
What do you wanna do? I don't know.
Maybe Delaney's? Oh, my God.
Where did you guys come from? You're, like, the most beautiful women we've ever seen.
Why, thank you.
Would you two like a drink? That would be lovely.
Okay, maybe it was a mistake inviting you here.
I see that now.
But since you're here, just have a drink.
Oh, no, no.
We really must be leaving.
Um, don't- don't you guys wanna go? Don't you wanna take off? Yeah.
We're good.
Yeah, we can totally stay.
Are you sure? So sure.
Totally.
That looks brand-new.
How--how far does that go down? Ooh.
Does it hurt? Come on.
Let's try and find someplace quiet.
Hey.
Ooh, sex room.
Cigar room.
Oh, sweetie, no.
Don't film that.
You're gonna want a job someday.
Hey, man, let's go down.
Okay, that was, uh, unfortunate.
Just so you know, she is a-a film major.
This is horrible.
This was a horrible idea inviting you here.
Well, I mean, you do have brain damage.
I know.
Obviously.
Maybe she's not into second string.
Yeah, keep dreaming.
We'll see.
Who is that douche bag? Doug Taplin, some hotshot freshman.
He wants my spot on the roster.
I'm doing everything Dr.
Harris says.
I'm taking it easy, laying off practice, basically giving Taplin the opening he's been waiting for.
Don't worry.
You'll be back on the field in no time.
Yeah.
Now let's get you out of here, 'cause clearly you hate it.
Uh, but first, a care package-- pizza, beer, and a couple jell-o shots for dessert.
And you go have a nice time with your girls.
And I'll call you tomorrow, and we'll have a proper date.
Thank you, Andy.
Yes, I'm gonna go find them.
I'm sure they're dying to get out of here.
Hey! Whoo-hoo! Hi.
We're leaving.
We're leaving! Okay.
All right.
Bye.
Bye.
Thanks.
Have fun, boys.
oh.
I'm sorry about that.
I'm gonna make it up to you.
What? It was fun.
They were hot.
And cute.
Aren't you both, like, pining away for your ex-boyfriends? Oh, they were cute and ripped.
Yeah, but it's fun to look.
And they liked us.
Plus, it's nice to have guys around I mean, what am I, dead? You know, just in case it's winter.
For extra.
Why did we bust out of there so fast, anyway? Because he's- he's too young for me.
He's a kid.
He gave you pizza and beer.
Where I come from, you rush that man to the altar.
I think he's cute.
Have fun for a little minute.
I don't know.
I-I want more depth.
You gotta go to Manhattan for depth.
Yeah, you're not gonna find that here.
Mm-mm.
Can we get a movie now? I really wanna see some people being killed.
Yeah, you guys do that.
I'm gonna grab some beer.
We have a six-pack.
There's three of us, Chlo.
Do the math.
We'll meet you back.
All right, Chlo, let's get something bloody.
Well make a wish, baby well, and I will make it come true make a list, baby Excuse me.
Do you have any more lids? Um, sorry, I think we're all out.
So we could wash away the past so that we may start anew ooh, ooh, ooh rainbow risin' over my shoulder love flows getting better as we're older all I know all I wanna do is hold her she's the life that breathes in me Hey.
Uh, cash or credit? Um Uh, cash or credit? Cash.
Need a bag? Are you okay? Are you okay? Hey! Oh! Oh! Hey, are you okay? Oh, come on, seriously.
Hey, what's wrong? Nothing.
Move forward, fall back life is like that and we're just getting started one thing's for sure ain't no remedy if you want to get right then you better get right with me well, hey, hey if you want to get right then you better get right with me better get right with me Uh, Robin Nolan, 21, restrained driver of a car crash with rollover and intrusion.
Multiple rib fractures tore into her liver.
How you doing, Robin? Shannon, 16, front-seat passenger.
Mid-shaft femur fracture, otherwise stable.
Keep her npo, and we'll take her up to the O.
R.
later for an intermedullary rod.
My sister-- is she gonna be okay? She's gonna need surgery.
They're turning over a room.
We'll be ready to go in five minutes.
I'm gonna go scrub in.
Girls! Shannon! Mom! Oh, my God.
What happened? A deer jumped out in front of us, and Robin swerved to miss it, and we rolled over the embankment.
Are they going to be all right? Shannon's got a broken leg.
The doctor will explain more later.
Robin needs surgery to repair her liver.
Is there anything we can do? You can donate at the blood bank on the second floor.
She's probably gonna need another transfusion.
Of course.
We'll take you to the O.
R.
waiting room.
I'll go first.
You stay with Shannon.
Please take care of my sister.
Oh! I'll--I'll be with you as soon as I clock in.
What's going on in my crotch is a federal crime.
Seriously, nurse, I need an ointment, salve.
Please, you've got to give me something.
I've been here 12 hours.
Uh, has anyone seen you yet? Yeah, they took my name and drew blood yesterday.
Now, I have a fever, my back hurts, and it burns when I pee.
Mommy, I'm hungry.
These kids are starving.
There's a vending machine right down the hall.
I left my wallet.
Oh, you know what? Look, I got two Venus bars.
Um, I have a-a Turkey and cheese sandwich and, um, a bag of potato chips, okay? Okay? Oh.
Chloe, clock in.
This guy needs an I.
V.
What happened? Got into a fight with his CPA.
It's tax season.
It happens.
Hurry up.
Oh, my God.
Um, I'll--I'll be with you guys soon, okay? These people are ridiculous.
Come on.
Hey.
How'd it go with Robin? Pretty rough.
Had to do an extensive, uh, liver resection.
She's young, though, you know.
Her liver should bounce back.
What happened? Oh, just a burn.
Did you light yourself on fire again? No, Chris.
I did not.
It was a coffee spill.
That looks like a civil war dressing.
You don't have to fix it.
Just shut up.
Shut up.
Let me do it.
So, um How you doing? Pretty good.
You seeing anybody? Shut up.
We broke up, like, five minutes ago.
Tell that therapist lady to hurry up and fix you.
I only say that 'cause I'd really like to get laid.
Well, you may need to take things into your own hands, because this is gonna be a long, slow climb back to mental health.
Excellent.
I'm sorry.
Not as much as I am.
Hey.
Robin's blood alcohol.
Oh, it's 0.
15.
So much for the deer.
Okay, who wants to tell the parents? You're up.
Okay, um, you have a urinary tract infection.
I'm never coming back to this hellhole.
Yes.
Come on, my love.
Let's go.
Get your coats.
This is a prescription for cephalexin.
It's an antibiotic.
Um, just follow the directions, and if your symptoms persist, just contact your doctor.
Okay.
You're welcome.
Oh, kids love you.
And speaking of kids, how's it going with your new boyfriend? He's not my boyfriend.
In fact, I'm gonna shut this carnival tent down right now.
Really? Mm.
"Fun seeing you.
"But I don't think "it's going anywhere.
Good luck with the season.
" That's cold.
You people have made me cold.
Working here has made me cold.
I'm cold now.
"Send.
" Unfortunately, her blood alcohol was way over the legal limit.
There must be a mistake.
The tests are very accurate.
It was only a few beers.
She didn't mean it.
Please don't be mad at her.
How can I not be mad? This is the second time.
So what happens now? Will the police come? No.
Gianna.
If the officers suspect something at the scene, they'll follow up, but we're not allowed to provide patient information to anyone, including the police.
Thank God.
Thank God? Thank God? She could have killed Shannon.
But she didn't.
Kids make mistakes.
She's not a kid, Wade.
She's a 21-year-old adult.
You're making excuses for her.
Are you trying to get Robin into trouble? Mom, don't.
Maybe we should take this out into the hallway.
You treat her like she's made of glass.
Mom, what if she can hear you? She's my daughter.
She's supposed to be our daughter, but I'm the stepmom, so I don't get to say anything.
You have allowed her to grow up into an irresponsible, reckless adult who our daughter worships.
Look at where we are, Wade.
Huh? My God! Open your eyes! I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to insist that we take this outside.
Sonia, can I have a word with you? Sure.
I just received the autopsy report on Lauren Kempton.
But she had a DNR.
Why would there be an autopsy? The insurance company ordered it.
Anyway, according to this, she had toxic levels of acetaminophen and morphine in her blood.
Do you know anything about that? No, I thought it was complications due to A.
L.
S.
and pneumonia.
That's what I put on the death certificate, but clearly that's not the case.
I don't know what to tell you.
I went to the store.
When I came back, I found her.
She wasn't breathing, and she had no pulse.
Hmm.
There was nothing out of the ordinary-- no empty pill bottles, suicide note? No.
Well, it's not uncommon.
Insurance company just needs to get to the bottom of this.
Believe me, you don't want those people after you.
When there's money on the line, they never stop.
Have you seen my mom? I haven't.
You know, emotions tend to run pretty high around here.
I'm sure she didn't mean what she said.
Yeah, she kinda did.
It's a little tense between the two of them.
So she's Robin's stepmom, but she's your mom mom? Yeah.
Robin's mother died of cancer when she was five.
My mom and my dad met a year later, and then they had me.
And life was complete.
Robin could be a little nicer to my mom.
My dad's kind of a pushover.
He feels bad for Robin.
That's a lot for you to think about while you're sick.
My mom's just worried about me.
That's her job.
Tell her I'm fine.
So we're just about out of time.
I broke up with Chris.
Oh, my God.
Wh-- why do you always wait till the last minute to tell me what's going on? I was ramping up, and now we're out of time, so sit down.
My next guy is always late.
Do you make him pay for the full hour? Veronica What happened? I don't know.
Don't say "I don't know.
" I went over to his house all sober, like you wanted me to, and he asked me if I was ready to be in a relationship.
And I just weirdly blurted out "no.
" So I blame you.
Why do you think you said that? I don't know.
Maybe because I was pissed off that he was all up my ass, and I wasn't myself because I wasn't drinking.
You think you're not yourself when you're not drinking? I was making a joke.
You're on my time now.
You're cutting into my pee break.
So no hiding behind funny.
I don't think I can be who he wants me to be.
And also, I thought that when I was with Chris, I would be okay.
Like, really okay.
Like my life would be okay.
My head would be okay.
I know that that's stupid.
No, it's not stupid.
It is, kind of.
I mean, I left my husband for him.
Emotionally, anyway.
And now I'm confused.
And I'm making all of these major life decisions, and maybe they're wrong.
And I just wish I could put everybody in a jar so they would keep a while, while I get my act together and become a normal person who doesn't have panic attacks.
You had a panic attack? Oh yeah.
You spent 48 minutes talking about your mother's exercise regime.
Obviously I'm bad at this.
No, okay.
We'll talk about that tomorrow.
What I will say is you're confronting some really scary things, and you're doing that without alcohol.
That's not 100% strictly true.
One thing at a time.
I'll see you tomorrow.
Sonia.
We need to talk.
This is the third time this week that the med trays haven't been restocked.
Oh, sorry.
It's my bad.
I will do that right now.
Who was that guy you were talking to? Uh, he was visiting his sick Uncle.
Asking about finding a home care nurse for him.
Oh.
Lab called with a critical result.
Positive blood culture on your uti patient.
Alicia Spivey? The lady with all the kids? And the bad attitude.
Oh, my God.
She's growing e.
Coli in her blood.
And it's resistant to cephalexin.
That's what we gave her, right? She could go septic and not even know it.
Oh, God.
She needs a new antibiotic.
She could die.
I'm calling her.
Voice mail.
Leave a message.
Just say it's important.
We can't leave test results on a machine.
Hello, this is Chloe Payne from Mercy hospital.
Please call me as soon as possible.
It's very important.
You got a hot mi and a gi bleeder.
Take your pick.
Nurse? Nurse? Deanna? I think you missed something.
What are you staring at? I'm afraid to tell you.
Can your opinion of me get any lower? Try me.
I saw the dead girl from the doughnut shop.
I keep thinking that I see her.
My wife's still in the house.
Sometimes I see her out of the corner of my eye.
Is it scary? No.
But it makes me a little sad.
I don't know what it will take To let the dead finally rest.
Hello? Hey, Mike.
What's up? You know the big wheel keep on turnin' Enough already! Proud Mary keep on burnin' How long has she been up there? About an hour.
Rollin', yeah rollin' get off the stage! How much has she had to drink? Enough for this to happen.
Rollin', rollin' She's pretty good.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
She tried out for American Idol a couple years ago.
River Two, three, four! Oh, this is priceless.
Wait.
It's my turn, lady! Oh, my God! Where did she even get that thing? I had that behind the bar.
Ronnie, people are leaving in droves.
Can you talk her down? Please.
All right.
I'm going in.
Rollin', rollin' rollin' on the River rollin' come on, sing with me.
Rollin' rollin' on the River doo doo doo doo doo doo doo Come on! It's so good.
Yi, yi, yi, yi Where did you get this? Yeah! Whoo! Here we go, here we go.
Ready? Cleaned a lot of plates down in Memphis, y'all pumped a lot of 'tane down in New Orleans but I never saw the good side of the city till I hitched a ride- Thank you.
Let's go.
Let's go! Let's go.
Sonia I hate you.
You love me.
Thank you.
I am just so glad that wasn't me.
Yeah, that was good.
I'm gonna throw up.
Jeez, Sonia, how much did you have? Oh, I don't know.
Three long islands and a shot.
Oh, my God.
Where did you learn how to drink like that? You.
All right? I learned it from watching you.
Are you gonna tell me what's going on? I can't.
Is this about Nick? No.
No? No.
Okay, what then? I screwed up.
And I don't want to talk about it.
Come on, Sonia, it's me.
You can tell me.
Oh, what does that mean? You don't tell me anything anymore.
I know you freaked out in the store last night, and I know it was because of what happened in the doughnut shop.
You want to talk about that? Want to sober me up, get some coffee, set your world straight? Come on, we can go right now.
No? That's what I thought.
Well, now who's being mean? Look, I just feel bad.
I know you're going through a lot of stuff, but you just keep going forward, just like you're superwoman.
There is no superwoman.
There's supergirl and there's wonder woman.
You know what I meant.
You're not the only one with secrets.
Maybe I have a secret too.
Maybe I'm in trouble.
Are you really in trouble? Because if you are, you had better tell me.
No.
I'm good.
It's just I'm Sad about Nick is all.
Are you sure that's all? Yeah.
That and I think I got puke in my hair.
Come on.
I'll take you home.
Ooh! Ooh! You promise--if you're ever really in trouble, you'll tell me, okay? Yeah.
I promise.
Okay.
How'd you sleep? Like a drunk rock.
Hmm.
How's Robin doing? Liver tests weren't so great last night.
Hopefully this morning's labs will be better.
Robin, you're awake.
How are you feeling? Okay, I guess.
How's Shannon? Is she okay? They couldn't extubate her after surgery.
Is she sedated? No.
They're holding meds, hoping she comes around.
Shannon.
Open your eyes.
Head CT was normal.
No complications in the O.
R.
What's going on? What are you doing? No response to painful stimuli.
Possible fat embolism.
Get Briggs.
What's wrong with her? What's happening? Dr.
Briggs.
Robin, I need you to stay calm, okay? You have to help her.
Please.
You have to help her.
We need to get her to the procedure room.
Let's move, people! Sometimes when you fracture a big bone, large fat droplets get into the bloodstream and travel to the lungs and brain.
Seven french vascular sheath.
That fat can cause swelling and inflammation, which can decrease oxygen flow to the brain.
Will she be okay? In most cases, yes.
What's happening? Her oxygen's low due to the mucus.
This'll make her more comfortable.
This filter unfolds like an umbrella.
Once we're in good position, I'll just pop it open.
She's bleeding.
Just a drop or two from the suction.
She's doing great.
Maybe you'd be more comfortable waiting outside.
I'm not leaving her.
Okay.
Where are we? Released.
And seated.
There we go.
Promise me she'll be all right.
I can't make that promise.
But we're doing everything we possibly can.
I still can't get ahold of Alicia.
She--she's not calling me back.
She could be D.
I.
B.
Dead in bed.
Oh, God.
Those kids.
You should probably call the police.
I did.
They have, like, three domestic violence calls ahead of me.
They take priority.
I'm going over there.
Going where? I have a-a patient that could be septic.
Yikes.
Bogie, 6:00.
Oh, God.
Oh, hey, tackle dummy's here.
What are you even doing here? I'm waiting for the ambulance.
I have a heart patient coming in.
Really? You broke up with me by text? I thought I was supposed to be the immature one.
I'm sorry, Andy.
I thought since we never actually went out, it was totally an appropriate way to end our relationship.
Relationship? Shut up.
What--what are you even doing here? You know, Andy, when I break up with somebody electronically, usually it's 'cause I don't want to see them.
It's the message within the message.
Who is this guy? Nobody.
I should've called, okay? But right now I have a patient that could possibly be dead.
I have to get to central ward.
Wait, you're going to the corner of gang and rape by yourself? I'll be fine.
No, I'll take you.
Just let me finish up with old man angina first.
You don't have a car and you don't even drive! I can take you.
I'm parked just outside.
I have a four-wheel drive.
We can run over all the rapists.
Heated seats.
Thank you, Andy.
A man with his own transportation is so attractive.
Let's go.
Thank you.
Mr.
and Mrs.
Nolan, uh, as you know, we had to remove quite a bit of Robin's liver to stop the bleeding.
We hoped for a better outcome, but it looks like she's moving rapidly into liver failure.
What does that mean? It means that we don't have a lot of time.
How much time? Uh, she won't survive more than two days without a replacement liver.
Can she get on a donor list? The average wait is a year.
But we do have some good news.
We tissue-typed the blood that the family donated for Robin's surgery and Gianna is a match.
Me? Uh, but we're not even related.
You and Robin match five of the six antigens.
It's not perfect, but it's acceptable for a transplant.
You could be what's called a "living donor" for Robin and we won't have to put her on any lists.
The liver can regenerate itself.
So if gianna gives even one lobe to Robin, it will turn into a fully functioning liver.
Can this be done today? Yes.
It's an involved surgery and then five to six weeks to recuperate.
Great.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
I-I-I just-- I need a minute here.
Why would you need a minute? Because Shannon could die and I wouldn't be there.
I'd be in surgery giving a piece of my liver to the person that killed her.
You're asking me to leave Shannon's side.
And I just don't know if I can do that right now.
Well, if it isn't the cheapest, yet most expensive piece of ass I've ever had.
Well, hello to you too.
Is this a social call because I've been instructed not to speak to you.
Can I come in? You moving? What do you want, Sonia? There's a-a private investigator following me.
I think there's been, um, a misunderstanding and I was hoping that you would talk to him.
Yeah, I could do that.
You could talk to the D.
A.
for me.
Quid pro quo.
You tell them you killed my mother and that it wasn't a suicide.
What are you talking about? I didn't kill Lauren.
You're gonna look me in the eye and say that? You using again, Paul? Did you know my mother left everything to the Grand Street Theater Company? Everything.
I was supposed to get the insurance payout-- $5 million- until you got in the way.
That's not what happened.
She had no grip.
Who opened the safety cap on the morphine? Get out.
We are not friends.
You worked for my family then you killed my mother.
That's not true.
I loved Lauren.
I miss her.
Don't ever contact me again.
How are you feeling? Gianna doesn't want to give me her liver, does she? I understand, you know.
I mean, I was always awful to her.
And now after this, she can--she can feel free to hate me.
It's a very complicated situation.
She doesn't want to leave your sister.
Can't believe how stupid I was.
But it doesn't matter now.
An apology always matters.
Really? How many sorrys do you think it would take to fix this one? I see the girl from the doughnut shop.
What do you think she wants? I think she wants to know why the dumb nurse missed the gigantic bullet hole in her back.
It was a terrifying situation.
Another way to look at it is you tried to save her.
She died.
The whole thing was a bust.
You lived.
You walked out of there alive.
I think that's a pretty big win.
I'm a nurse.
She died.
I failed.
Why did you decide to join the army? Because my parents spent my college tuition on a flat-screen tv and a bathroom remodel.
I graduated from High School in 2000.
And at the time it seemed like a pretty good idea.
And then 9/11 happened.
Yeah.
I went to nursing school.
I watched the news every night just waiting to see if we were gonna go to war.
Mike and I got married.
And we just waited for the call.
I was so in love with him.
Must've been hard to leave him.
Yeah.
I had, um, never been away from home before.
I was stationed in Camp Ramadi.
It was my job to mop up the blood off the floors at night.
And there were all these guys coming in, you know, one after the other, and, like, these little Iraqi kids.
And, uh I was a really green nurse.
So you think you made mistakes? I know I made mistakes.
Especially in the beginning.
And I think about it all the time.
All the guys who died because of me.
They didn't die because of you.
They died because of the war.
Deanna didn't die because of you.
She died because she got shot by a robber.
And the stupid nurse who missed the bullet hole in her back.
When did you decide you had to be perfect? When did that happen? That's not what I'm saying.
Did you do the best you could? Oh, everybody says that.
That's a bumper sticker.
My mother is always saying she did the best she could.
It's an excuse.
Really? You think so.
Because I think that's all we have.
I think if you can answer "yes" to that question, you can put your head on a pillow and sleep.
Yeah.
So you didn't try? You walked into that hospital and half-assed it? You were too lazy to check on Deanna's wound? You let those 18-year-old boys bleed out in front of you? You couldn't be bothered to hold their hands while they cried? I always held their hands.
You have to let it go.
I just can't help thinking "What if?" That is how you go crazy.
Hello? Hey, Zach.
Can I come in? I'm not supposed to let strangers in the house.
Well, your mom forgot something, and I have to give it to her.
My mom's asleep.
She slept through dinner.
Um, Zach, your mom is very sick, and I have to go inside so I can help her.
I can't let you in.
That's good.
You're following your mom's orders.
But it wouldn't be your fault if someone was to break down the door.
All right, step away from the door for me, okay, buddy? Keep them in there.
Okay? Hey, you guys didn't have any dinner? Let's go see what you got in the fridge, okay? Alicia, wake up.
Alicia.
in septic shock from e.
Coli bacteremia.
BP's 80 over 40.
She's had a liter of saline and a gram of ceftriaxone.
Transport to Mercy.
That's where her medical records are.
All right.
All right, I got it.
You good? Here you go, buddy.
All right, go ahead.
That's for you.
That's for you.
Here you go, buddy.
Can I have some? Hey, that's mine! Oh, this is? Is she gonna give the stepdaughter a piece of her liver or what? Undecided.
You gonna go get all involved in her business, superwoman? That's a lot of family history.
You don't know what you're stepping into.
I can't help it.
I know.
Have fun.
Do you need some help? Thanks.
I got it.
The other nurse said it was okay to keep stuff in here.
Oh, it's fine.
Not a problem.
How you doing? You must think I'm a monster.
No.
I don't.
I think you have a decision to make.
I'm just so angry.
I know how that feels.
I also know you need to put your head on the pillow and sleep.
Shannon--we're just gonna have to wait and see.
That's out of our hands.
But your stepdaughter, you can do something.
You can save her.
What if Shannon dies, and I'm not there? What if Shannon wakes up, and Robin's not there? You're not always gonna be this angry.
But you're always gonna have to live with this decision.
You saved a life.
I fed some kids.
We didn't get raped.
This--this might be the best date I've ever been on.
You're sweet.
Thank you for driving me.
I'd love to do it again sometime, minus the dying lady.
But I want to respect the fact that you broke up with me by text earlier.
Ah.
Okay.
Forget the text.
We can do it again, but next time Sit-down dinner.
Reservations.
None of your friends.
Done.
It is so hot how bossy you are.
Good night, Andy.
Good night.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry, mom.
I'm sorry.
I know, sweetie.
I know.
I'm so sorry.
I know.
It's okay.
It's okay.
It's okay.
Look at me.
She's gonna be fine.
I just know it.
And we will do the surgery and get you better.
And then we'll get Shannon better too.
Hey.
It's me.
I need you.
I saw the gsw to the femoral artery, so I made a makeshift tourniquet to stop the bleeding.
I used an apron and a wooden spoon.
That was good.
That was smart.
And the whole time, the robber was in the store? Yeah, but I missed the second bullet wound to her back, right above her kidney.
If I had seen it, I could have put some kind of an occlusive dressing on it.
Plastic wrap.
Something.
Plastic wrap could have prevented a collapsed lung from turning into a tension pneumothorax.
Is that what killed her? She bled out through her chest.
Where was she? Over there.
Behind the counter.
All the plastic wrap in the world couldn't have saved her, you know.
You did everything you could have done, Veronica.
What would you have done? Seriously? I would have run.
I would have taken one look down the barrel of that gun, and I would have hightailed my ass out of here first chance I got.
I probably would have hid and called 911.
I don't know.
Sometimes you do everything you can, and you still get a bad outcome.
It's how it goes.
Yes.
But-- no buts.
Just yes.
What was her name? Deanna.
Deanna.
