Ringer s01e20 Episode Script

If You're Just an Evil Bitch Then Get Over It

My name is Bridget.
I witnessed a murder.
Just get up on the stand and tell the judge what you saw, and we'll protect you.
You don't get it.
Bodaway wants me dead, I'm dead.
I ran to my sister, Siobhan, for help.
Siobhan killed herself, and I assumed her identity.
Siobhan I didn't tell you the whole truth about Tyler Barrett.
It was an accident.
It's gonna be over soon.
We have the flash drive.
What? I gave it to Tim Arbogast.
Why would you do that? We got a tip linking you to the crime.
Your father-in-law's the one who turned you in.
Your days as a mother, they're over.
You so much as come within a city block of Juliet, I'll have your parental rights stripped so fast, your head will spin.
Bodaway and his crew, they're going to be a threat to you and your family until they see your sister dead.
Get down! You're going to tell me everything you know.
Who's after you? Yeah? Hello? Things with Catherine couldn't have gone any better.
We recovered every cent she stole.
And I rather enjoyed the look on her face when she realized she was screwed.
Where are you? Don't panic.
It happened again.
Someone shot at me.
Oh, my God.
Are you all right? I'm fine.
I'm at the police station on Greene.
But Andrew, whoever's doing this They're not after Bridget.
They're after me.
What? Look, uh, I'm coming for you.
You stay put.
And Siobhan? I love you.
Me, too.
What the hell are you doing here? I had to see Juliet.
I think I made myself very clear.
I don't want you anywhere near her.
I have to tell her that I am sorry for what I've done.
For all of it.
Catherine, this is Oh, God.
What did you do? I just want to die.
Ah Catherine! Hello, angel.
If this is too much, we can go.
And of all the crap you've pulled, this has to be the lamest.
Pretending to kill yourself so we'll feel sorry for you? That's pathetic.
Please, angel.
You have to forgive me.
Forgive you? No way.
I'm not getting sucked in again.
Juliet You know I'm right.
Mr.
Martin? I'm Catherine's psychiatrist, Dr.
Rao.
May I speak with you in private? Why don't you go get yourself a snack? I have a few questions for you about Catherine's medical history.
Has Catherine ever done anything like this before? Once.
Her doctors referred to it as "Parasuicide," I think? That she never actually intended to kill herself.
It's not unusual for that to precede a more serious attempt.
Are you saying this time was different? Unfortunately, there was nothing tentative about the cuts Catherine made.
If you hadn't found her when you did, she would have bled out.
I've been treating Catherine since she was admitted.
She'll be held here for two more days under mandatory supervision.
Mm-hmm.
But after that, we have some difficult decisions to make.
What kind of Difficult decisions? We could commit her to a longer stay at Bellevue.
Or we could try to work out some kind of a supervised living situation.
But releasing Catherine on her own Right now, that's not an option.
This is the fourth time that you have dragged me in here.
Yes, I was at the Soho diamond the day Tyler Barrett was killed.
But I was there to write.
So, unless you have anything new to ask me, I'd like to go home to my kids.
It's your lucky day, Mr.
Butler.
It turns out new evidence has come to light.
Well, um Thank you so much have a good day.
We have a witness that puts you in Tyler Barrett's room just before his death.
I won't be home soon there's monsters at home I feel so alone Thank you.
I really appreciate you meeting me.
The police won't tell me anything, just that they ID(d the shooter.
Rex Barton.
He's a "family man" from Jersey.
The bullets we recovered from his gun also matched the one they removed from your husband.
And based on his record, the police believe Barton was a professional hit man.
Which makes the question Who hired Barton? What about that phone call? I mean, did that lead anywhere? No, it was a dead end.
Came from a disposable cell, bought with cash.
Mrs.
Martin, do you have any idea who might want you dead? Has the investigation into Olivia Charles turned up anything? "Investigation"? As far as I know, she's considered a missing person.
You say missing I say she might be behind it.
You want to tell me why? Is this about Martin/Charles? Do you know what Olivia was trying to hide? I wish I did.
Look, if you really think Olivia's involved, you should call to the police.
I'm talking to you.
I'm still on suspension from the FBI.
And even if I weren't, I'm here to investigate Bodaway Macawi.
Your case is a separate matter.
You asked me last week if I trusted you.
I said that I did, and I meant it.
No one has done more to protect Bridget than you.
Now, on top of it, you've saved my life? If anyone can help me, it's you.
I mean, come on, I know you must want answers, too.
I have a buddy at the bureau that I can check with.
Get an update on the case.
But after that, Mrs.
Martin No promises.
Thank you.
Hey, boys? Your daddy's home! Dash? Becks! Henry.
Hey.
I'm really glad you were able to post bail.
Yeah, well, I had to put the brownstone up for collateral, but Hi.
Why is it so quiet in here? Did Annafried take the boys out? I don't know how to tell you this, I I went out earlier to get some things, but when I came back, Annafried was outside.
She was begging them not to take the boys.
But they wouldn't listen Siobhan, what are you talking about? Who took my boys? Children's services.
What? So this Barton guy shot me at the loft and then came after you again? Look, I know we talked about Olivia being involved, but she got away, and with plenty of money.
This is quite a distance to go for revenge.
Maybe it's not Olivia.
I don't even know what to think anymore.
Machado's going to look into it.
Hey, you.
If you're busy, I can come back.
No.
Come on, what's up? I can't stop thinking about mom.
And I heard what the doctor said That she really meant to kill herself.
Daddy, is this our fault? I mean, if we hadn't tricked her This is not your fault.
Are you sure? Yes.
Do you think she's, like, actually crazy? I don't know how to answer that, sweetheart.
But I do know that she needs help.
And we have to trust the doctors.
Okay.
Juliet, do you want me to come with you? And what, tuck me in? I got it.
This is all my fault.
What are you talking about? Catherine has done this before.
When I told her I wanted a divorce.
It was a cry for attention, and I left.
Walked away without a backward glance.
Andrew, that was a long time ago.
She still holds on to this fantasy that we'll get back together, be a family again.
Okay Is there more? Catherine kissed me.
When she was trying to convince me to sell the palm Springs property.
I thought it was part of her game, a little seduction thrown in to seal the deal.
But what if she actually thought the kiss meant something? And then I turned around and told her I never wanted to see her again, and I took her daughter away from her Hey.
Anything that Catherine got, she deserved for what she put us through.
And you got your money back without implicating Juliet and without sending Catherine to jail.
And you never led her on.
Right? Oh, no, of course not.
I love you.
Well, what do we do now? I can't turn my back like before.
And then the choices I make, they don't only affect Catherine, they affect Juliet as well.
You're right.
And as long as we remember that, we'll figure it out.
Yeah, yeah, thank you.
Did you find out where they took the boys? Yeah, they're at my in-laws', and they took Annafried to help ease the transition.
Wait, where are you going? To make Arbogast look me in the eye and tell me what the hell is going on.
What do you mean? He's the one who called children's services.
He said I was an unfit parent.
So first, he turns me in for murder, and now this.
He's waging war against me and I have no idea why.
Wait, Henry, you can't go to the Arbogasts', come on.
The best thing you could do right now is clear your name.
Prove that you didn't kill Tyler.
And how am I supposed to do that? Because in case you forgot, I did kill Tyler.
I know.
I know that this is all my fault.
If I could take this back, I would.
This one I know I can fix.
Oksana Shegolivich? I'd like to talk to you about the day Tyler Perry died.
I already told the police everything I know.
I just want to make sure you're certain of the details.
You must see so many people coming in and out of here every day.
Picking Henry Butler out of a crowd can't be easy.
I thought this might help you see things more clearly.
This is all fine; It's just the address is wrong.
Here.
Ms.
Shegolivich.
I didn't know you were scheduled to come in today.
We need to talk.
Hey, Dash, Becks.
Hey, boys, come here.
Oh Boys, lunch.
Oh I have missed you guys.
All right, guys, go inside.
Have some lunch Let's go boys, come on.
You're not supposed to be here.
So I've been told.
But I don't give a crap.
First, you get me thrown in jail, then you take my kids away from me.
What's left? Your arrest was your doing, not mine.
What, so you didn't call the police after I gave you the flash drive? Andrew Martin is the guy who's supposed to be in jail.
I was trying to help you.
You lied to me.
You really thought I'd believe that you had that data from Andrew? It took me all of two phone calls to find out that the S.
E.
C.
was investigating Martin/Charles.
Working with Tyler Barrett, who coincidentally was murdered before he could hand over his evidence.
I put two and two together.
What did I ever do to you, Tim? Let's start with all nights that my little girl came to me crying because she thought you were cheating on her.
After she died, I tried to put my suspicions aside, keep close to you for the sake of my grandsons.
But when I realized that you were lying to me about the flash drive, I couldn't do it any longer.
I hired an investigator to look into your behavior during the last year of Gemma's life.
I know, you were sleeping with Siobhan Martin.
You broke my daughter's heart.
And for all I know, you had something to do with her death.
- No.
- There's not talking yourself out of this.
I'm going to destroy you.
Whatever it takes, I will make you and Siobhan pay for what you did.
Ms.
Martin, thank you for coming in.
Ah, of course.
I'm not exactly sure how I can help you.
I've already told you everything I know about the attempt on my life.
That's, uh, not why I called.
I've got questions concerning the Tyler Barrett murder case.
I I don't know anything about that.
Then why did you pay a Soho diamond maid to lie about what she saw the day that Tyler was killed? Why did I pay a maid? I have no idea what you're talking about.
We're aware of your affair with Henry Butler.
What does my relationship with Henry have to do with any of this? Ms.
Shegolivich is the main witness in the murder case against Mr.
Butler.
If she recants, your boyfriend walks.
That sounds like motive to me.
You arrested Henry? Yesterday.
Why would Henry kill Tyler Barrett? That's what we're trying to find out.
Tyler Barrett worked for your husband.
Did you know him? I only met him once.
It was a business dinner for Martin/Charles.
Ms.
Martin, is there something you're not telling me? Because if you're hiding something, we will find it out.
Angel Is your dad here? I came by myself.
How are you feeling? I haven't been on this many drugs since college.
Not as much fun as I remember it.
God, you're a total mess, you know? And now this doctor's saying it's not your fault? That you're sick? And that almost makes it worse.
Like you get some pass for what you've done.
Juliet.
And I should hate you.
The things you made me do, I lied to everyone.
I made daddy and Siobhan believe awful things.
And I did it all because all I've ever wanted is for you to want me.
Baby, I am so sorry.
Oh, God.
Like you haven't said that before.
I knew that your dad would find me.
And I wanted him to live with the guilt of knowing that he caused this.
I have been an awful mother.
I never actually thought that I would have kids, until I met your father.
I loved him so much.
And he wanted kids so And when he left I let him take you.
I figured he loved you more than me.
Then I was alone and you were gone.
And all I could do was obsess about Siobhan.
I hated her.
And I thought that you felt the same way, but then the way you were talking, I knew that she was stealing you, too.
And I wanted to take everything that mattered to her: Money Andrew You.
I messed up so bad.
I've done things Things too Stop.
Stop.
Because daddy's right, I it's screws me up to be around you when you're like this.
Do you want me out of your life, angel? Because If I lose you Nothing matters.
You know I just want a normal mom.
And if you are sick, I want you to get better.
But if you're just an evil bitch, then get over it.
Mr.
Osterman, I'm Agent Cupertino.
This is Agent Machado.
Huh.
You know, I know a joke that starts like this: Two FBI Agents walk into a bar, or should I just make that just one? If you don't carry a badge or gun, you're still an FBI Agent? Well, it didn't stop me from taking care of your buddy Rex Barton.
Uh, Barton, no, that doesn't ring a bell.
That's funny, he was carrying a tarot card from your dry cleaners.
Yeah, I mean, finer dry cleaners, that was just such a phenomenal front for your operation.
My operation? So you tell me, Mr.
Machado, what was I doing, was I laundering money, dealing drugs? Well, I think that you were connecting people, who wanted someone dead, with people who can make it happen.
So, what, like a hit man broker? I know Rex Barton connects to you.
Which means you're on the hook for all the people you tried to kill.
You tell me who ordered the hit on Siobhan Martin, I'll make you a deal: I'll get you 15 years instead of life.
Oh, wow, you want to help me? With what? You've got nothing.
Rex Barton Lucky for me, dead men don't talk.
He didn't deny anything.
He knows who ordered the hit.
Agreed, but he's right.
We don't have enough to charge him.
What are you talking about? What about Rex Barton? He just called him out specifically.
There's got to be something there.
We searched everywhere except his house.
His wife's fighting us.
We'll get a warrant eventually, but Yeah, she could be the strong evidence as we speak.
We can't let that happen.
I don't know what to tell you, Vic.
My hands are tied.
Come on Hi.
I just got off the phone with my lawyer.
He said that the hotel maid changed her story.
I knew I could fix this.
Great job with that.
Because now, on top of her original accusations, Oksana Shegolivich is saying that Siobhan Martin tried to bribe her.
So now they think we're working together, which makes me look worse! She reported me? Yeah.
Henry, this was supposed to clear you.
Have the police talked to Bridget? What? Well, if the maid accused "Siobhan," then the police are gonna talk to Bridget.
When that happens, how long do you think before she figures out there's two Siobhan Martins in New York? Is that all you can think about? I'm trying to protect you.
If the police think that you're working with Siobhan, they're gonna add fraud, embezzlement, God only knows what else to your murder charge.
Henry, you have to find Bridget, you have to explain this.
Dad, I have something to tell you.
I kind of went to see mom today.
Don't be mad.
I just had to see if she was faking it or Sweetheart, I don't think we're ever gonna know what's going on inside your mother's head.
But they want to institutionalize her.
Do you think that's fair? It's not to punish her, it's to help her.
I know it's not ideal, but we have to be practical.
What if we hired a nurse? We set the the two of them up in an apartment? I talked to the doctor about it.
Pauline Your mother gets out tomorrow.
I know.
So maybe, at first, she could stay here with us.
Just until we hire someone.
No, I don't want her around you.
Not like that.
I know, dad, but if we just send her away like that, I don't know if I can live with myself.
Please, daddy? Please just think about it, okay? Looking back, remembering the innocence of youth I can see your face and the stories in the wood they said, "do you know she feeds the birds? she has a kitten that lives in the bush they took my hand back and back and back and back and back and there were people in the wallpaper we had telepathic minds Annafried, is that you? I need to talk to Henry.
I can see you.
Cover me in white Clay again.
Hello? Henry? Annafried? Hey.
What are you doing in my house? You know, I was actually looking for you, too.
Oh, did it have something to do with me being hauled into the police station? Why the hell did they arrest you? I'm sorry that you got mixed up in that.
The maid, she told the police that she let me into Tyler Barrett's room the day that he was murdered.
She's lying, of course, but I panicked.
And so I, I thought she wanted money, so I hired a woman to pay her off.
And the woman I hired happened to be a blond, and I guess because of our relationship, the police assumed that it was you.
We don't have a relationship.
You need you to tell the police that whatever we had is long over.
I have no reason to bribe anyone.
I know, I know.
I mean, they're not listening to me right now, but I will do everything that I can.
If the maid clearly didn't want money, why would she lie? I wish I knew.
It's funny.
I keep wondering what you were doing at the hotel that day.
Yeah, I was there writing.
I had no idea that Tyler was staying there.
You knew.
You knew about Tyler and me.
You and Tyler? Come on.
Are you serious? Oh, my God, Henry.
You did kill Tyler.
It's written all over your face.
Knock it off.
I didn't kill anybody.
Okay, you know what? I-I need you to leave my house now, please.
I know you're hiding something.
I really appreciate you coming over here.
Just one of those days I couldn't get away.
No problem.
I just have a couple of things I need to show you.
Oh.
Hi.
- Juliet, you remember Agent Machado? - Mm-hmm.
And this is Catherine, Juliet's mother.
She's staying with us.
Oh.
Why don't we head to my room, Juliet and give Siobhan some privacy? And mom, um Don't forget these.
Oh.
Here.
It's enough to tranquilize a horse.
You okay? Oh, yeah.
No, I mean I know it's just the first day, but she's doing everything the doctor said.
She's been taking her pills and is even going to therapy tonight.
Am I crazy to think things might be getting better now? Not a bit.
Bye.
Bye.
Come on in.
You're a good mother, Mrs.
Martin.
And apparently a very good wife to let your husband's ex stay with you.
That's only for a few days.
Long story.
You have something to show me? Yeah.
I found some things that might relate to your case.
Recognize this? I found the original in Rex Barton's basement.
Uh, this was our Christmas card a few years ago.
The missing half is me.
Why would Rex Barton have that? Well, my guess is, whoever wants you dead gave it to a mobster named Remy Osterman.
Osterman then contracted out the hit using the rest of that photo for I.
D.
I have something else.
Oh, my God.
You know him? Agent Machado, you know that I trust you.
Do you trust me? Who is he? Please, if I'm going to be completely honest with you, then I just need to know that you're on my side.
Go on.
I do know him I know him because I killed him.
What are you doing? Henry, please don't shut me out.
Talk to me.
About what, Siobhan? My life is ruined.
And it all started when I got mixed up with you.
I have made these choices.
I killed a man.
I can't take that back.
It's all because I love you.
Hell, I'm so crazy in love with you that I tried to help you set up your own sister to die.
Now, you told me that you were done with all this.
That's obviously not the truth, so tell me, where the hell does this end? Let's just end it now.
I mean, we have Andrew's money.
I'll go anywhere you want.
I don't care about revenge if I lose you.
No It's too late.
I'm not gonna leave my boys.
And don't try to fix anything else.
'Cause every time you do, things just get worse.
Okay, this, uh, this changes things just a little bit.
You're going to start from the beginning.
And you're going to tell me everything.
This is the man who tried to kill me, not Rex Barton.
I didn't tell you because I killed him.
In self-defense.
And then I hid the body just till I could figure out what I was gonna do.
But then I went back, and it was gone.
So you're telling me you killed a man, and then the body just disappeared? Well, no Rex Barton took it.
That's why I didn't go to the police.
He was holding it over me.
You know, you're gonna have to explain a few things now because my visit to Barton's wasn't exactly authorized, but the FBI, they will get a warrant, and when they run forensics, the bullet in this body right here is going to trace to you.
Actually, to Bridget.
She gave me the gun.
I didn't want it, but it wound up saving my life.
And I gave it to someone that I thought I could trust to get rid of it: John Delario.
That's how John Delario got the gun he used to kill Gemma Butler? Yeah.
Okay.
So if this guy came after you first, then what, then? Osterman contracted your hit to him? And when he went missing, Osterman then called Barton to clean up the mess and finish the job? But Barton couldn't finish it.
I want the phone.
I took a phone off the man.
Barton wanted the phone.
I knew it and I knew that it could keep me safe.
Why would Barton want a phone that wasn't his? Anything in it would just trace back to the guy you killed.
Or maybe to the person who ordered the hit.
You still have the phone? No, it was stolen.
Right before Andrew got shot.
I mean, it was here in my house; It was just in my closet, and then one day it was gone.
So whoever took the phone had access to your house.
Which means, most likely, Barton didn't take it.
The person who hired him did.
Which brings us back to the original question: Who wants to kill me? That photo I found at Barton's The original one of this I asked a friend to run it for prints.
It's a long shot, but if the person who ordered the hit touched it, there's a chance we can find out who wants you dead.
So whoever took the phone had access to your house.
Looking for this? I just figured sharp thing were a no-go for mom, just in case.
I'll lock it up afterwards.
Okay.
Mr.
Arbogast, my assistant told me you were here.
To what do I owe the pleasure? We need to talk, Andrew.
I don't know where you got that, but Yes, you do.
It belonged to Tyler Barrett.
My former son-in-law gave it to me.
He assumed I'd go to the authorities, turn you in for fraud.
But I'm not going to do that.
Instead, I'm going to save Martin/Charles.
You're going out? Yeah.
My mom asked me to grab some stuff from her hotel.
Give me a second.
I can get my coat and go with you.
I think it's probably best if you stay here with her if that's cool.
No problem.
Okay.
Do you mind if I make myself some tea? Of course not, be my guest.
You care to join me? I'm good.
Thank you.
I get it.
We never got along after the best of circumstances, and after everything that I've done, I wouldn't want to spend time with me either.
Catherine, actually, tea sounds great.
I'd love to join you.
No.
I forgot the sugar.
I'll get it; You stay.
Come on.
Come on.
Was that my phone? I didn't hear anything.
Here.
Thanks.
Thank you.
Leave a message.
And I'll get back to you.
Juliet's been gone awhile.
Maybe I should check on her.
She probably just went for some coffee.
I'd just feel better if I did.
Oh.
Are you all right? That was weird.
I, um head rush.
No, I'm fine.
Um stressful week.
That's not mine.
Wait.
Is that? So whoever took the phone ordered the hit.
You have any idea who might want you dead? Find what you were looking for? It's you.
