Crownies (2011) s01e22 Episode Script
Episode 22
I don't have a ring yet and I know I should ask your Dad but marry me.
Marry me, Lina.
I want to be with you.
My answer's yes.
No more secrets.
Belting a cop's a bad move, mate.
Hey, thanks for letting me stay here.
Brother, mi casa, tu casa.
I'm tendering my resignation, effective today.
Jake Gardiner and his brother Max, were wrestling when Max strangled him.
Parents? Virginia and Sean Gardiner.
Do you find the accused not guilty of murder? Yes, Your Honour.
Lyndi Quinn is here to see you.
You were right to pursue him, David.
My daughter, Charlotte, found these.
Do what you have to.
It's about the shredder.
If you have to do the nesting thing in the middle of the night, go back to cleaning the power points with a toothbrush.
I thought that was quite effective.
Maybe I should pull out of this conference thing.
I can do without racing to Adelaide and back in a day.
No, bub, not after the work you've put into it.
No way.
You're going, you'll love it.
And you'll be brilliant.
Shall we? What? Well, it's a bit of a hike to the airport.
I could always drive.
Are you saying the pregnant woman can't handle it? I wouldn't dare.
Plus, I know how finicky you get about other people driving Audrey.
Well, she's the sensitive type.
She's a piece of machinery, inanimate.
God! Going my way? Janet, I've got a dilemma for you.
What would you do if you were offered incontrovertible proof that Nicholas Quinn raped and abused other young women? What? Which he'd hidden away.
Tapes recording his activities.
He taped himself? Noted the time, the date.
Very organised.
He really did it.
No doubt at all now.
How many girls? It's hard to say, maybe a dozen.
You watched some of the footage? Yes, I have.
All 20 hours of it.
David.
Well, I had to find out if there was any way of identifying any of the girls.
See if we could get them some counselling, compensation, something.
Or get them to the police.
But Exactly.
Who would they charge? The perpetrator is dead.
He's clearly visible in the tapes, but there's no way of identifying the victims.
My question is, what do I do with the tapes now? Even if the perpetrator is dead, they're evidence of crimes, they should go to the police.
Which will exonerate you, get the Premier and Miriam and everyone else off your back.
Show them you were right to pursue Quinn.
I could do that.
Or you could disappear the tapes, be forever criticised and let his family grieve in peace.
As you yourself might put it, we could proceed but do we want to? Lyndi Quinn's given you her permission.
I envy you, getting out of here for a while.
Having the opportunity to be surrounded by innocence.
Not all this.
Prosecutie.
Hello, handsome.
Got you a muffin.
With your own money? Sweet! I've been doing life modelling to pick up some extra cash.
Should I make a joke about your gun now or? I don't think so.
Thanks.
Hang on, hang on, you've gotta try it.
I'll have it for morning tea.
You guys don't get tea breaks.
Well, I'll make an exception for this exceptional muffin.
Have it now.
What if I don't like it? It's heavy for a muffin.
Loads of fruit nuts, organic, that stuff's always heavier.
Go on.
Bahhibic ya khobziti el hilwa.
Or did you mean to call me 'bread'? I was trying for Cupcake, I know.
Closest thing I could find to muffin.
That shit is so hard to say.
We're really doing this.
Fuck.
You're such a romantic.
You don't have to work today, do you? No, nothing big ever happens on a Thursday.
Names have been suppressed, but it is believed that the deceased 12-year-old was recently acquitted of serious criminal charges.
The boy's body was found at home, and his parents are assisting police in their investigations.
Have you seen the news? I'm guessing that's Max Gardiner.
Dylan sent me a text about it, so I'd say, yes.
Do you think he killed himself? Could have been an accident.
Another one? How likely's that? How likely are any of the things that walk through our door? True.
Sean Gardiner killed Max.
The father? Says it was an accident.
He killed him? Interviewed him last night.
Do I have to watch this? How's Virginia? She was under sedation last night.
She saw it happen.
She was there? They reconciled about a month ago.
They've been back together living as a family.
We were too scared to leave Max alone with Ethan.
You know, the baby.
One of us always had to be with him, just just in case.
Not that we weren't worried about Ella, but Ethan's so small, so helpless.
We were in the kitchen.
Me and Max and Ethan.
Virginia I don't know where she was exactly, somewhere close.
I heard this crash in the hall, and then Ella called out.
She'd fallen and hurt herself.
Now, I raced out to see if she was OK and she was fine.
Just a bump and a fright.
I kissed her better and, I went back into the kitchen.
Max was leaning over Ethan.
Right over him, over his face, and he was putting something in his mouth.
I panicked.
I I raced over and I just shoved him out of the road, just to get him away from Ethan.
And I grabbed Ethan, and I picked him up and I just held him tight.
And he I checked his mouth and there was a grape.
And he started crying.
And I was just shooshing him, telling him everything was OK.
And um, Virginia I don't know where she came from, she was just she was right there beside me.
Besides me and Ethan.
And I was so focussed on Ethan, I didn't even think about Max.
I heard this sound and I couldn't work out what it was.
And it was Virginia.
She was beside Max on the floor, cradling cradling him and rocking him.
He hit his head when he fell.
Max was feeding him? You don't feed a baby grapes.
You and I know that.
A 12-year-old doesn't.
This is a very smart 12-year-old we're talking about.
And a man who hated him.
I'll keep you posted, let you know if forensics turns up anything.
Thanks.
Are we going to be at loggerheads over this Gardiner case too? No, of course not.
We'll just proceed on the evidence.
Sean's admitted to accidentally killing Max.
Can't we leave it at that? Well, he has always hated Max.
Hate? Really? I mean, he didn't trust him.
He was probably afraid of him, but hate? It is possible Sean did it deliberately.
Aren't we supposed to look at all the possibilities? He was saving his baby's life.
It was defence of another.
Maybe Sean did push him.
But Max was pushed with enough force, he died when he fell.
That force comes from the same place that helps a mother lift a car off their child trapped underneath it's instinct, it's not murder.
And congratulations.
Gotta slam that down, mate.
I think I might hate you.
Why won't they just let you resign? Because they realise they can't live without me, just like you have.
I'm turning your friend here into a man, you know? I liked him the way he was.
Richard? Come with me, please.
Of course.
Now.
What do you know about this? He hit a cop? Which is why we're handling it, rather than the police prosecutors.
You don't expect anyone in this group to take it on, do you? It's a clear conflict of interest.
You think we should let people outside Group Five know that one of our solicitors is engaged to a thug? He's not a thug.
I'm sure he had good reason.
To assault a police officer? There is no excuse.
No, of course not.
But he is pleading not guilty, so maybe it's not him.
The police got it wrong? Well, they have been known to make mistakes.
Well, not often.
Rarely, in fact, if ever.
But we're all his friends in here.
Considering the disrepute Group Five has already brought this organisation into, I would have thought you might understand the delicate nature of this situation.
Tatum should have reported this immediately.
I'm sure she doesn't know, OK? She would have said something.
I have never come across a group of lawyers with such scant regard for professionalism.
Good luck with your exit interview.
You'll be fine.
Yeah, I will.
What can Tracey do to me now? Erin.
How nice to see you.
You look different.
Lighter, as one might expect.
Confession is, after all, the first step to repentance.
Are you ready for me? David will be seeing you.
David? Yes.
Right.
Well, don't keep him waiting.
Of course, repentance only absolves us of our sins in the eyes of the Lord.
Oh, Erin, come in.
Sit, sit.
Thanks for making the time to come in and see us.
I'm sure there are administrative things to finalise.
You did leave rather abruptly.
Fucked Tracey's systems right up.
I didn't handle it very well.
I'm sorry.
We'd like to suggest that you reconsider your resignation.
We know you didn't leak the file.
That wasn't the only reason I resigned.
This place gives us all the shits, we're still here.
Well, you still need to lose someone for my group, don't you? Well, there are other possible solutions.
What would that mean? That you'd sack Ben? I'm not wearing that.
Ben's a completely separate issue.
Ben's a good lawyer.
There's no way I'd come back in here knowing that would cost him his job.
Would you be interested in coming back to work with us? I've actually lined up a couple of interviews with some defence firms.
I see.
And I had you pegged for one of the good guys.
I just wanted to say Don't say it, please, I'm just keeping it together as it is.
I heard the news about Max.
That's awful.
I'll have your reference ready by the end of the day, OK? I have been working on tonight's entertainment.
Thai food, Thai massage, Thai porn I sense a theme developing.
Close the door.
What's up, big boy? Assault police.
Today? So relax, plenty of time to prepare.
Judges love that sort of stuff.
You're looking at maximum penalty, like shooting fish in a barrel.
I refused the file.
So, what's the drama? It's Conrad.
What's Conrad? The defendant.
He assaulted a cop? That's ugly.
It's the same night that everything blew up.
You left that part of the story out.
I had no idea.
She doesn't know either.
That's going to go down well.
She can't find out.
She's gonna find out.
Not if you and I keep quiet.
Did Tracey give you the file? Then there is no way that file's staying secret.
She'll see to that.
You should be the one to tell Tatum.
They just got back together.
Don't you think she should know, especially now they are back together? Richard do it like a Ben McMahon Friday night hard and fast.
Have you got a sec? Three bail applications, two mentions and four weeks' worth of filing say, 'No.
' Can you just walk with me for a bit? What, you're suddenly my BFF again? What happened to superjock? Did you guys break up? Please? What's so important, ex-friend? A brief came in this morning.
An assault, and assault police.
The defendant's Conrad.
Conrad? Look, I'm not taking it.
When? That night, you know, that everything blew up.
Is the cop OK? I think so.
But he still wants Con prosecuted.
And the other guy? He'll live.
That idiot! Wait, wait! For what? None of this would have happened if we hadn't, you know I didn't ask him to hit anyone.
Did you? No, but at least wait until you're calmer about it.
When's that going to happen? Don't speak just get your arse here right now.
Now, Con, now! Does anyone else know about this? You told fucking superjock, didn't you? Tatum This is my life, Richard.
Mine, not yours to go gossiping about with your drinking buddies.
I'm sorry.
Get fucked! What are the cornerstones of this office? Bricks? Concrete? You're not talking asbestos, are you? We provide a just and independent prosecution service.
We do.
We uphold ethical standards.
Always.
Provide assistance and information to victims and witnesses.
Check.
Satisfy the accountability requirements of courts, parliament and DPP policies.
Absolutely.
And under the Law Society of New South Wales' Professional Conduct and Practice Rules Legal Profession Act 1987, rule 10.
1? You might need to jog my memory a little bit on that one.
Rule 10.
1.
1 the practitioner must not in any dealings with a client, allow the interests of the practitioner, or an associate of the practitioner, to conflict with those of a client.
Never.
Good.
Then you'll have no problem handling this.
You hit a cop? What, once you punched Richard, you were on a roll? I was going to tell you That makes it so much better.
Things were so tense between us, I didn't want to make it worse.
How gutless are you? Babe.
Don't babe me! Bringing drugs to the Christmas party was nothing compared to this.
I didn't mean to, alright? I just snapped.
I was drunk.
I work at the Department of Public Prosecutions.
We have a file in there with your name on it.
My fiance's name, that everyone knows.
Small world, Conrad, very small world.
Judges, cops, barristers.
I know them and through no fault of my own, they know me.
But I was overcoming that and I was doing really well at not being Danny Novak's daughter.
But now thanks to you there's going to be no doubt that I am.
Don't touch me.
Don't follow me.
Don't visit me.
Don't call me.
You don't exist.
Please no decorum on my behalf.
Well, you're the only one I ever show decorum to.
I've told Dylan Thorne I want you to handle the Gardiner matter.
I thought he was reporting to Elvis.
No.
I don't want Janet under any more stress.
I won't tell her you said that.
Keep me updated on what happens with Gardiner.
I'd like to say it'll be my pleasure, but it won't be.
Mr de Groot, Constable Pearce says you punched him in the face.
Mr de Groot? No comment.
You'd been drinking heavily, is that right? No comment.
Do you intend answering any questions? I don't have to.
You're entitled to exercise your right to make no comment.
I need you to say it.
Is there enough to prosecute him? Tate, come on.
Tell me.
I'm not supposed to say.
You're a shithouse friend.
His lawyer seems to know his stuff.
He's got a lawyer? Tatum Novak? Exodus 23, Verse 2 don't engage with those who are doing evil or testify on their behalf in a dispute perverting justice.
I don't need a Bible class.
I will overlook the fact that these charges of Mr de Groot's should have been brought to my immediate attention.
I will overlook your trying to interfere with another solicitor's work.
But I cannot let you continue this allegiance with a criminal without warning you that you are on very, very thin ice.
He obviously reminds you of your father, and that pathology is a dangerous Con is nothing like my father.
Res ipsa loquitur.
The facts speak for themselves.
I know what the stupid Latin means.
I was so angry with him, all I could see was what he had done to me.
But I've actually really hurt him.
I'm such a shit.
Love bears all things believes all things, hopes all things.
Endures all things.
I can't bear this.
You will get through it.
You're young.
You have so much ahead of you.
You can't see how lucky you are.
I don't feel lucky.
Why don't you put yourself in Erin's office? Have a bit of privacy? In fact, seeing as it's empty now, maybe you should move yourself in.
For the time being.
Thanks.
Cause of death? Subarachnoid haemorrhage.
The ambos worked for some time on the kid when they got to the house, but his pupils were fixed and dilated all over, red rover.
We're waiting on the autopsy to confirm it.
Still searching the house and grounds for the weapon.
Unless the weapon really is just the sharp corner of a kitchen dresser.
Any other witnesses? Only Virginia.
The wife's no good to us.
She can apply to be ruled non-compellable.
The judge might not grant her immunity.
She is the only eye witness.
To an unfortunate accident.
Caused by a man who's on the record as believing the victim was a psychopathic murderer.
There's plenty there to justify a murder charge.
Let the jury decide whether he's lying or not.
If he thought the kid deliberately killed his brother, Jake, and wanted to avenge his murder, why just push him and hope he hits his head? Maybe he didn't push him maybe Sean had hold of him and deliberately whacked him into the dresser.
It's still risky.
Why not smother him with a pillow while he's asleep, or poison him, or gas him in a car? He has the strongest motive in the world.
It's not his kid.
He knew he was a killer, and he's scared of him.
And there were grapes in the baby's mouth.
Not when the ambulance got there.
Sean pulled them out to make sure the kid wouldn't choke.
He said Ethan had a grape in his mouth when he got to him.
So we only have his word.
And Virginia's.
But how can you see from a doorway in a split second, exactly what a boy's putting into a baby's mouth? There were grapes nearby.
He knew Max had been eating them.
A parent's heightened perception.
Or maybe there was never any grapes.
It could be something Sean has cooked up as an alibi.
It could, yes.
Dylan.
Hello.
I assume you're all discussing Gardiner? Yes.
David asked me to look into it.
Didn't think I should be included? It's all preliminaries.
Lina? I wasn't Then none of you will mind if I sit in, give you the benefit of my insights gained from months of work with this family.
Of course.
You're letting Tony run Gardiner? He's looking to find a murder charge in it.
He's full of bluster, you know that.
He'll do a fine job.
His pet hate is dead children.
He'll crucify Sean.
It's my case.
Let me run it.
Except you won't be here.
I'll be back in just under five weeks.
Nothing will have happened before then.
Janet, I applaud your grand plan, but we both know that's not going to happen.
Four weeks will stretch into eight, into 12, into a year.
I know what it's like.
I've been through it myself.
And even if you do come back in four weeks, you'll be in no state to run a stressful murder trial.
I thought we'd sorted this out, what, with the boys' clubs closing ranks.
What am I going to get when I come back? More sunbathing penises? Janet's got the shits with both of us.
Decided what you're going to do with Quinn's stash? You could post it on YouTube.
What? You can't recognise the girls.
Leave you to it, old son.
An unexpected pleasure, Miriam.
I don't need to be charmed, David.
How can I be of service? Disappointing that the police couldn't find enough evidence to charge someone with the leak of the Quinn file.
Very disappointing.
The department looking after its own? I wouldn't dismiss the entire organisation because of one person's acting unwisely.
You have life tenure as Director, don't you? That is the basis on which I accepted this position, yes.
Doesn't really allow the DPP to move with the times, does it? To change and adapt as required.
It allows the incumbent to bring the wealth of their experience to the job.
That is an invaluable resource.
It's a big sacrifice to ask of someone.
Not if someone believes in the work.
But to ask someone to forego their pension so that they might serve the people? I beg your pardon? We're considering limiting the tenure of the position to 10 years.
Which doesn't apply retrospectively? Well, that wouldn't be fair.
Nor legal, I imagine.
What it does mean is that if you stay past your 65th birthday, you will not be entitled to claim any of your pension.
Despite the fact that I might have given a lifetime of public service? Unfortunate, I know.
But, not a problem for your successor.
I lose my pension if I don't retire at 65.
What? They're only doing it because they're too gutless to sack me outright and I refuse to resign.
This is outrageous.
Well.
Nothing they do surprises me anymore.
If they could've found a way to pin the leak on me, they would've.
Show Miriam the tapes.
Make it her decision what to do with them.
Save myself and to hell with Quinn's family? Why should you be dragged down by Quinn's crimes? That's what you'd do in my position? Give the tapes to Miriam Mansie? Yes, that's what I think you should do.
Which isn't necessarily what I would do in the same situation.
All depends on what we can live with.
Doesn't it always? Thanks, Harry.
Dickens? Very subversive.
Bah, humbug.
Janet, if you're expecting Virginia Gardiner, she's down the bottom of the stairs.
She's been there for ages.
Thanks.
That's alright.
Virginia.
I'm so sorry.
How long? Ten days now.
Come on up.
No, I can't.
I can take you somewhere private.
No-one will disturb us.
Please.
Will Sean go to jail? I honestly can't say.
He saved our little baby's life.
They're not going to send him to jail for that? It was an accident.
How many times If we were any other family Your family history won't be relevant to the jury.
But I'm afraid it will be to the police in deciding what to charge Sean with.
They might charge him with murder? It's possible, yes.
Max was trying to kill Ethan.
What was Sean supposed to do? It's not up to me to decide that.
No.
No, no, don't put yourself on the line.
Don't give a real, human response.
Don't try and imagine what it must be like to know that one of your older children is actually going to hurt one of your other children.
Maybe in ten days' time you'll feel differently.
Fuck 'em.
Couldn't agree more.
Who? Miriam Mansie and her cronies.
I'm going fishing.
What? They owe me years of accumulated leave and I'm going to take some of it.
Now? Yeah, now.
Urgent health issues.
Stress-related.
It's just come up.
Extraordinary.
How long? Month or two ought to get 'em stirred up.
Shaken and stirred.
The shop's all yours.
You've lost your mind.
There's your urgent health issue.
Best man for the job.
No, give it to Janet.
She's the best man for the job.
She'll love to boss everyone around.
Except she won't be here.
Shit! You don't want Murray Rice running this department.
You're a prick, Sinclair.
Couple of months.
Do whatever you like with the place.
Bit of a paint job? That what you had in mind? I will never forgive you.
I am the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.
I saw you more as Scrooge, actually.
And you are the Ghost of Christmas Past.
What are you doing? Bye-bye, whiteboard! You can't do that! Looks like I can.
David will have something to say about David has gone and left me in charge.
Frightening, isn't it? Then I'll speak to David on his return.
Now that I'm Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, I've been turning my mind to our budget constraints.
You can't change things.
One of the reasons we've blown our budget is we brief out too many matters.
Expensive barristers are costing us a fortune.
Existing staff are pushed to their limit So what we need to do is use our workforce more efficiently.
Impossible.
Anyone qualified to act as an advocate should do so when required.
Someone like Well, you, for example.
Now that case allocation will be computer-generated and not scribbled on a whiteboard, you'll have oodles of spare time to strut your stuff in court.
Me? Warning.
The lunatics have taken over the asylum.
David emailed me.
You surprise me, Tony, even after all these years.
Bastard cornered me.
Yeah, he's good at that.
Look, about this Gardiner business Can we talk about something else? I don't like it any more than you do.
I thought you were out for a lynching.
Gotta keep the young pups terrified.
You know that.
I will kiss the feet of every single juror who finds that all that man was doing was looking after a baby.
I don't have an agenda.
I'm just looking for evidence and hoping to God not to find it.
So say we all.
The only thing worse for that family would be to have found Virginia had done it.
Those kids are stuffed enough without taking their mother away from them.
They'd still have a father.
Call me a dinosaur, but a baby needs its mother.
Constantly.
As you're about to find out.
Thank you for coming back in at such short notice.
That's alright.
Have you, ah spoken to the police already? Not yet, no.
I don't think Sean should be charged with anything.
I think he loves you and his children so much, he's confessing to something he didn't commit.
He's an old-fashioned man, I've seen that in him.
He believes a mother's place is with her children.
Tell me I've got the story wrong.
Max didn't make a sound.
There was no bang, no cry, nothing.
I could only hear Ethan choking.
He was spluttering and gasping for breath.
He had these grapes in his mouth and there was one stuck in his throat and I I dug it out and he was screaming and it was so frightening I just I just held him.
Sean had already called the police before I realised anything had hap happened to Max.
He was telling them there'd been an accident and that he'd pushed him.
I tried to talk him out of it.
He wouldn't listen to me.
He still won't.
It's alright.
Shitty day? I know the feeling.
Come out and tell me all about it.
Bet you my story's worse than yours.
I'm not going to leave you to feel shit all by yourself.
See, you think you want to be alone, but you don't.
Not really.
Well, I'm gonna wait.
As long as it takes.
And then you and I are going to get drunk.
Trust me, it's the only way.
Oblivion.
I could use a drink.
Thought you weren't going to show.
Sorry.
I, ah, got caught up.
And waited till everyone else had gone home.
I would have done the same thing.
One glowing reference for Miss Erin O'Shaughnessy.
I really appreciate it.
Criminal defence work? That's the plan.
Bradley James.
Charged with strangling a 32-year-old woman.
Put her in the boot of his car, drove out of town, dumped her in a river where she was discovered by a group of schoolkids.
Two prior convictions for murder.
Two? They let him out.
He killed again.
Twice.
Defend him.
Well, maybe he was abused as a child.
This is his third murder.
Drug affected? The victim was a single parent with two young children.
He has a right to representation.
'Course he does.
Suresh Nahar, 45, businessman, highly successful.
Goes online masquerading as a 14-year-old to entice teenagers to meet him for sex.
Uses his own daughters' lives as background for his teenage conversations.
Want to defend him? Someone has to.
This isn't about someone.
This is about you.
What you can live with.
What you're willing to spend 70 hours a week of your life dedicated to.
But I could be defending a woman who's guilty of social security fraud because she's looking after too many children, after her husband God.
My God.
Tissue? No.
Right.
Towel.
I think I need a hospital.
Of course.
Hi, you've called Ash.
Please leave a message.
Can you call me, as soon as you can? She's on a plane, hours away.
She's not going to get that message.
This is early.
It's it's too early.
It'll be OK.
This happens to women every day.
It's perfectly natural.
We'll just get you to a hospital.
I'll call a cab.
I am not giving birth in the back of a cab.
You can drive my car.
Sure.
Just get me out of here.
No, I can't.
Yes you can, you have to.
I need Ash.
You're stuck with me.
Can you walk? Yes.
Yeah, when I don't feel like I'm splitting in half, I'm fine.
Let's go slowly, OK? Lean on me.
You'll be fine.
Yeah.
Just breathe.
Isn't that what you're supposed to do? Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, breathe, OK.
Just tell me something to distract me.
Alright.
OK.
Hilarious travel stories? Jokes? Childhood memories? Anything.
You're trapped in a room with a poisonous snake, a tiger and a lawyer.
You have a gun, but only two bullets.
What do you do? You're telling me lawyer jokes? You shoot the lawyer.
Twice.
You're in labour, you're freaking out and you still know the answer to the joke.
You are awesome.
I'm terrified.
Open the door.
OK.
All yours.
God.
You in? OK.
Manual? Please, God, tell me you've driven a manual before.
Of course.
Once or twice.
Put the clutch in! Erin! I tried Ash again voicemail.
And no answer from Tim or Chris either.
So much for the four of us doing this.
We've been in touch with Doctor Malik.
Good.
So, she explained I'm booked in for a caesar? Yes.
But we'd suggest you proceed with a natural delivery.
The babies are not breech.
Their heart rates are good.
That's not what I arranged.
These babies aren't going to wait.
You're already eight centimetres dilated.
A caesar really isn't possible at eight centimetres? There's no sign of foetal distress or meconium stain in the amniotic fluid.
We can give you some nitrous.
Perhaps a bath might help deal with the pain.
It was all planned! We'll keep monitoring the situation.
Alright, fine.
I'm sure it'll be alright.
Ash will be here soon.
I'll be in the waiting room.
Good luck.
Where are you going? Stay with me! Me? Please.
To oblivion and beyond.
I'll drink to that.
Tony Gillies is wrong.
I am the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.
You're a ghost right! He's going to destroy the DPP.
Everything we've ever worked for.
He's not that bad once you get to know him.
He wants to destroy me! I can't see it.
He's too focussed on destroying himself.
I I know we've had our differences.
Is that what you'd call it? But everything I did was for the greater good.
Bullshit.
You sound like Stalin, not a ghost.
I pushed you hard.
Do you think? But you're a better lawyer because of it.
I'm meant to be grateful? Today we drink, tomorrow, we go back to the way things were.
Keep up.
Detente? I'm not that drunk.
Please? I need your help.
You're serious.
That is all kinds of wrong.
This requires bulk alcohol.
On me, mate.
Me and my Dad's plastic.
OK, we'll have two of your finest, thanks.
Don't ever do this! You're doing really well.
No I'm not.
Shut up! Yep.
You want another lawyer joke? No, I want these out of me.
Now! Sorry mate.
Been declined.
Declined? Are you serious? Yeah, I ran it twice.
Shit.
Hang on.
Rich, Richard, Rich! Hey! I might have to take you up on those bucks that you offered.
See, I left my card at the office and I just don't do cash, so can you pay for the drinks and I'll pay you back? Yeah, of course.
You're a good man, Rich.
Can you remind Tatum of that? She'll come round.
Not this time.
I mean, God, she's drinking with Tracey.
You know, I told Tracey I'm not going to take on Con's case.
True.
Not a complete bastard after all.
Don't tell anyone.
I might even be able to trust you one day.
Mate, easy.
I'm gonna cry.
No, look, you really have looked out for me this last little while the hotel and all that.
See, I'm tearing up here.
Seriously, you're OK.
Sweetheart.
They're here, and they're perfect.
My darling girl.
You look so beautiful.
This is Emma.
Hello, Emma.
You sweet thing.
And this is Liam.
Look at you.
Hello, you.
Beautiful boy.
We actually chose the right names.
They're gorgeous.
I can't believe I missed the whole thing.
I'm so sorry.
You can do the next one.
I don't need to go through that again.
In was amazing.
She was so calm.
Janet was the amazing one.
Just incredible.
I think she told some of the worst jokes I've ever heard.
Blame my dad.
I'm so glad Janet had someone with her.
Me too.
Well, that's it, girlfriend.
The end of life as we knew it.
They're so tiny, so fragile.
Are you turning into a ferocious lioness? Maybe I am.
Can I get you anything? No.
I have everything I need.
Tates! Go away.
Hey, be nice.
I don't like you anymore.
I know.
Now you're drinking with Tracey.
See, that's how shit my life is.
I wind up feeling sorry for finch face.
Con didn't come.
I thought he might.
We really fucked things up.
We really did.
And now I don't have anyone.
You've still got me.
If you want me.
Lisa's got you.
I'd say we're stuck with each other.
Well, you've got Ben now.
You're all bromancy.
He's not you.
Got that right.
I miss Con.
I know you do.
Me too.
Maybe we could kidnap Atticus again.
That might bring Con around.
No, don't cheer me up.
I'm being miserable.
Sorry.
Won't happen again.
Lisa's an idiot.
Yeah.
Shi-i-it.
Yeah.
Shi-i-it.
