Ghost Mine (2013) s02e01 Episode Script
Return to Darkness
The men's dreams were dashed.
Did it collapse? This is gonna take several weeks to clean out.
Now, they return to reclaim the gold - Fire in the hole! - [Explosion.]
But this season, the crew faces unknown danger What do you make of that? A potential onslaught of paranormal activity - Is it a gravesite? - Go, go.
Hurry.
Which could stand between them and their dreams of fortune.
- Buckett! - [Overlapping shouts and screams.]
[Country rock music.]
lord have mercy on a proud man's soul blood so deep that it never runs cold lord have mercy on a proud man's soul devil's gonna fight you when you find that gold lord have mercy on a proud man's soul With the new season, the Crescent mining camp springs back to life.
Hey, guys, there you are.
I knew you liked my cooking.
That's okay, we couldn't find anybody cheaper.
Returning as job foreman - How's it going, boss? - Pretty good, pretty good.
Stan Griffith.
Well, the lure of the gold is what brought me back, so we came up earlier this year to try to get in a little more time.
____ ____ - Who's here? Uh-oh.
- Hi, Dingus.
[Whistles.]
He brought a girlfriend with him.
- What's this? - You look good, dude.
You look good.
I was actually surprised that Larry did bring us back.
But, uh, you know, I'm glad to be back here.
All: Hey! And the miners aren't the only ones back to brave another season.
When Patrick and Kristen showed up here last year, all of us was like, "oh, great.
We've got two people's gonna be in our way all the time and" But as time went along, they became part of our team.
They were great.
And I don't believe, uh, any of the guys would have come back without 'em being here.
- How you doing, hon? - Good.
Good to see you, hon.
It's really good to see the guys again, but let's face it this place was pretty intense.
- How you doing, buddy? - Good to see yo man.
Good to see you.
When it comes to the paranormal, I've never seen so much activity.
What the hell is that noise? [Faint growling.]
It sounded like a growl.
Tommy-knocker.
That's enough for me.
I can't go back in that tunnel.
It's spiking.
It's spiking.
And I'm getting names.
- Here comes Greybeard.
- Greybeard! But to a hard rock miner, the lure of gold is strong.
Is that who I think it is with him? Even stronger than the fear of the unknown.
- Oh! - You gotta be kidding me! - Hey, lookee there! - Welcome back! [Cheers.]
Couldn't stay away from you guys.
Yeah, I'm real glad the old man come back with me this year.
I want the old man to come back and get his share of the gold out of here.
You're not gonna tramp out on me, are ya? No, once Greybeard told me about the gold they were finding in there, I figured, well, I could get over that real quick.
[Laughter.]
Yeah.
He's so old, he forgot why he quit in the first place.
[Laughter.]
Come on, Eddie.
Come on, Eddie.
[Laughter.]
Huh? You know, I'm a little apprehensive about the paranormal aspects coming back, but my very first priority out here is to get that gold out of the ground.
Okay, guys, we know what we're going for.
We know it's there.
We've got a lot of rehab to do.
So let's hit it.
Daylight's burning.
And job one on the to-do list is to get the camp back in shape after the long winter.
- Lookee there, good as new.
- Good as new.
Unfortunately for some, a new season can often mean new roommates.
Here, grab this one right here.
Well, you know, rooming with Jay this year is gonna be fun, I think, with him being a Greenhorn and all.
Give me a little more time to pick on him.
- I'll take this side.
- Well You get that side.
But this is where I was sleeping last year.
I don't care.
[Drilling.]
What in the hell are you doing, Buckett? ____ ____ ____ ____ Buckett, what are you gonna do without power? ____ - [Laughs.]
- ____ Buckett's going all green on us.
____ But as the camp comes together, Larry pulls Stan aside to reveal some bad news.
There's evidence that while they were away, someone tried to dig out the collapsed portal in order to ***.
Looks like somebody's had an excavator up here.
Took out about ten feet of dirt.
Whoa.
Gosh damn.
Wow.
Ooh, this ain't good at all.
You can see the pick marks where he's been trying to dig it out.
Yep.
How bad do you think it is? Well, you know, we had about 15 sets or better, and I think it's just dominoed all the way back, took 'em all out.
You know, I know I saw somebody up here, and by the looks of the damage up here, this just confirms it.
No, we'd spend too much time trying to timber it up as we went in, you know? To rehab this drift or this portal, it wouldn't be worth what we found.
There's no way we could make any money.
Those boys are not gonna be happy about this.
No, they're not.
Back in camp, Patrick and Kristen waste no time getting the investigators' cabin squared away.
This year, I'm setting up a map so we can keep track of the locations of our investigations from last year and also this year.
What I think is, when we start plotting out these points, we might get some answers.
As the investigators prepare for any potential paranormal activity, with evening, the miners prepare for another season of Jamol's cooking.
I ain't ever seen a cook shack with lights like that in a mining camp.
Looks like a low-budget cathouse.
[Laughter.]
So I changed the decor a little bit in the cook shack, and I love it.
It adds color, adds pizzazz, adds excitement.
I think we ought to burn the shack down and build another one.
[Laughter.]
All right, Eddie.
There you go, buddy.
Here you are, Duck.
- Welcome back, guys.
- [Laughter.]
There you go, partner.
Hey, you know, guys, I've been slaving up here.
The least you can do is just shut your mouths and eat.
[Laughter.]
Oh! The dog don't even want it.
Well, obviously, we're not here for the food, so what about the gold? I'm not here just to make the bills.
I'm here to make a better life for my kids, and this is something I'm counting on.
I kind of need it.
Well, we went down, Larry and I, and we looked at the caved-in portal.
We've had a trespasser, and there's been evidence that somebody was trying to dig into the old portal.
And it's pretty obvious it's just dominoed.
It's caved all the way back.
As far as we could see.
It's just all laid down.
There's just there's no way we're gonna get in that portal.
It's it's a done deal.
- Too far gone? - Yep.
We saw what was back in there.
That's why we are here.
That's okay.
Now, think about this, guys.
What if we can find another way around it? - Let's do it.
- That's good, that's good.
You guys remember where Greybeard felt that phantom wind coming out? - Yeah.
- Yeah.
Whoa! Do you feel that? Those two drifts run pretty close to parallel, *** It might be a little short, and bingo, we break into that drift, that puts us closer to the gold.
Stan the man has got his plan.
There's a cross-cut that we're all gonna go after.
There's real high-grade stuff, so let's do it.
And I'm willing to do that.
All I'm saying is, I don't want to waste a whole lot of time on it.
I was gonna say, that's our best bet right now, isn't it? Last year, finding that gold was huge to me and my family, get out of the situation we were in.
This is a huge gamble for us, because if we spend all that time in that cross-cut, and there's nothing there, we've wasted all our money, energy, everything.
But it's a risk we have to take.
- Let's do it.
- All right, perfect.
We'll see y'all in the morning.
Yep.
With a plan in place, the new mining day begins.
Patrick and Kristen accompany the miners into the eastern tunnel, to the site where, last year, a mysterious phantom wind was reported.
What the? Do you feel that? Something's not right here.
Let's get the hell out of here.
In a hard rock mine, phantom winds and high oxygen levels can be indicators of an opening somewhere along the tunnel walls.
Here's where we were getting that airflow through, right here.
Yeah, I can feel that.
The rich face of gold could be just beyond this barrier.
The only way to know for sure is to blast on through.
See, we're getting a steady .
12.
And what we found really interesting is, listen to this.
[Echoing thud.]
Yeah.
That's definitely hollow.
We were hearing some noises, and the noises were coming from back there.
You can see right here what we're talking about, the archway.
It looks like they carved it on purpose.
Yeah, it's definitely got an arch on it.
What do you think, Ed? From that rib right there, we've got to slab this whole thing.
Ss we've got to widen the left rib and the right rib out here so when we blast, the mucker can negotiate the turn real easy.
There's always the concern that when you blast, paranormal energy can be released.
Oh, we'll be careful.
Well, you guys remember what, uh, happened last time we opened up a bulkhead.
Yeah, we almost got rich.
[Laughter.]
Yeah, but we also discovered something else back there that you guys weren't ready for.
[Gasps.]
I just saw an arm.
Keep us in the loop if you guys are feeling anything weird, anything out of the normal.
Will do.
Yeah, I think we're all excited about seeing where this leads.
- All right.
- All right.
I don't know what we're gonna find back there.
If going through this whole thing gets us that much closer to this gold, I say, let's do it.
So what we're gonna do, we're gonna go in there, we're gonna drill out the holes, we're gonna load 'em, we're gonna blast it.
It's gonna break right through.
So it's gonna be very interesting to see what it exposes the growling, the phantom wind.
We really don't know.
[Drilling.]
Unsure of what is on the other side, the miners take special care with this first blast of the season.
To start, they load each one of the drilled-out holes with dynamite, and as always, blasting in the mine has Patrick and Kristen's full attention.
This time, it's happening in an area of known paranormal activity.
We don't know what will be released when they blow that dynamite.
We're all clear.
We're ready to go.
Let's do this thing.
We have to remember that this mine has laid dormant the entire winter Fire in the hole! So now, if we go in there and blast, it may disturb that paranormal energy once again.
And since we don't know what's behind that portal, I'm a little nervous.
It's lit.
We're going.
[Explosions.]
- Whoa! - Oh! Coming up Watch it, watch On Ghost Mine I say, let's go in there.
Will the blast reveal a passage to the face of gold Man, look at the size of this vein.
Or a portal into the unknown? There's something in here with us.
The miners are about to blast again, which concerns me because of the situation last year.
Fire in the hole! We don't know what will be released when they blow that dynamite.
These miners will have to be careful because it seemed like whenever we blasted last year, something paranormal would occur.
It's lit.
[Explosions.]
- Whoa! - Oh! These miners don't take the time to seal up tunnels.
The old miners did it for a reason.
Maybe they experienced something unknown, and it scared them.
- All right, you ready? - Yep.
Let's do it.
With the smoke cleared away and a partial opening revealed, the miners quickly bar down any loose or hanging rock.
- Whoa! - Watch it, watch The vital process is also surprisingly dangerous, as even the smallest hanger, as they are known, can fall with enough force to shatter bones.
Look at that.
That's coming down.
Barring down as they work towards the new opening, Greybeard and Jay encounter signs of fracturing on the walls.
Hold it for a second.
There's a crack right there.
- Look at that right there.
- Yeah.
- See it? - Look at that.
I have a feeling this whole section's gonna come down.
Okay, let's get out of here.
Before moving further into the darkness, they need to first see what they're up against.
This is a job for R.
I.
P.
A.
[Dramatic music.]
R.
I.
P.
A.
is a great tool for Patrick and Red in their investigations and also for the miners.
When we ever have a concern or anything like that, we can send R.
I.
P.
A.
in to check it out for us without putting any of our guys at risk.
Last year, R.
I.
P.
A.
did a pretty good job in the mine, but we learned a lot during her times in there.
This year, we brought her back, and she's been beefed up.
This year, Patrick has made some new improvements to his robotic paranormal probe.
Introducing R.
I.
P.
A.
3.
There were some external parts, like the speakers, that got a little damaged last year, so now those are inside R.
I.
P.
A.
There's always rocks falling in a mine, so now we put a external cage on her.
The laser grid used to be on the camera mount, so now the laser grid is permanently attached to R.
I.
P.
A.
And controlled through a servo.
We've added EMF temperature and oxygen level.
All that is built into R.
I.
P.
A.
now.
[Machinery whirring.]
The biggest change to R.
I.
P.
A.
this year is, we've added an arm to her.
[Machinery whirring.]
- Ready, guys? - Let's go.
So I think this year, R.
I.
P.
A.
3 is going to do a better job collecting evidence and helping with keeping the miners safe.
All right, I'm gonna take R.
I.
P.
A.
over and into the room there.
[Machinery whirring.]
Using R.
I.
P.
A.
3's on board cameras and instruments, the team begins to take in the details of the strange, new environment.
On the screen there, guys, we've got, uh, temperature, EMF, and our oxygen levels.
So all that is built into R.
I.
P.
A.
now.
Good.
[Machinery whirring.]
It's not a natural cavern.
That's man-made.
- [Machinery whirring.]
- It looks like a ballroom.
What's a ballroom? A ballroom is an open chamber, and when we mine from the left rib to the right rib and take all the ore out, it leaves one big space.
Check that back out, Patrick.
[Machinery whirring.]
Wow.
[Machinery whirring.]
- Looks like a cave-in.
- Yeah, it's a cave-in.
You can see the timber in it.
Some timber is there.
Normally, when you get a cave-in in a mine, the rocks are really big, and they destroy everything beneath it.
But the material or the muck in this cave-in looks too fine.
It looks man-made to me.
Why would they cave it in? It doesn't make any sense to me.
[Machinery whirring.]
Oxygen is staying, uh, steady.
Around 20%.
So you guys sure it's safe for us to go in there right now? The ribs look good.
Back's solid.
I say, let's go in there.
All right, we'll follow you guys.
Let's go.
Wow.
Man, look at the size of this vein.
A lot of gold taken out of this thing.
- Yeah.
- We've got some glass here too.
- Oh, yeah.
- Broken glass.
Anybody else notice how cold it is in here? It's definitely colder than the rest of the mine.
And if anything, a dead end like this would be warmer.
I don't understand that either.
That's just plum weird.
I feel something behind me here, a draft of some kind.
Yeah, right here, Stan.
Oh, yeah, you can really feel it.
It's coming through.
Got ventilation.
- Steady flow.
- That's good.
'Cause that's the direction we need to go.
- Follow this vein.
- Yeah.
We might be real close to that old drift.
Yeah.
Hey, guys, what about this tool? What in the world is that doing down here? It's like an old scythe handle, like the grim reaper used to carry.
The farmers used them to cut their wheat with.
The blade's broken off or rusted away.
What's it look like? I don't know what it is.
Wow, look at that right there.
I'm getting a little energy spike there.
It doesn't make any sense.
The only thing that makes sense is that quartz vein that Eddie's staring at.
That makes sense.
This is going in that same direction.
We're gonna run into that same thing that brought Dingus down, brought Kristen down.
So that's what we're really concerned about.
I'd just feel more comfortable, Stan, if we got a little time to check the place out before you guys came through here.
You got all the time in the world, till tomorrow morning, and then we are going that way.
I guess we need to get out of your way and let you get at it.
- You guys can have at it.
- All right.
It makes me nervous to be in that ballroom.
It's got a really strange vibe.
If there's gold in there, I want my share, but who knows what else they'll find? Having already found evidence of paranormal activity and with limited time to investigate the mysterious new chamber, Patrick and Kristen quickly get to work.
We found some strange objects in the ballroom artifacts that have nothing to do with mining.
We'd like to investigate to make sure it's safe for the miners.
For this investigation, I'm gonna hook up the full-spectrum camcorder here onto this turntable on top of a egg timer.
In the next hour, it's actually gonna spin 360 degrees, and then I set the full-spectrum camcorder to take a photograph once every 60 seconds.
So we'll have total coverage? In an hour, we'll have a 360 view of everything in here.
That should work.
So we were getting those weird spikes earlier.
I want to see if they're still around.
'Cause here's where the guys were focusing all their attention this area here.
I'm gonna try to get up here.
Be careful, Patrick.
That's loose wood and loose rocks.
Yeah.
Yeah, Kristen.
Getting a strange emf over here.
And this is where we're getting that airflow, right through here.
I'm just gonna set it right there.
This place is full of emf.
It all seems to be coming from right here.
Want to do an EVP session back here? Yeah, let's do one.
Ready? I'm ready.
Patrick and Kristen in the ballroom.
Was this room used for other things besides gold mining? [Water dripping.]
What's beyond this wall? [Dramatic music.]
Are you hearing anything on there? No.
Are these miners disturbing you? [Water dripping.]
Did you not want us to find this room? [Water dripping.]
K2 hit, right after that question.
There's something in here with us.
Are these miners disturbing you? While conducting an EVP session in the newly revealed ballroom chamber, Patrick and Kristen have started picking up some unsettling activity.
Did you not want us to find this room? [Water dripping.]
K2 hit, right after that question.
There's something in here with us.
We see that you're here with us now.
Are you upset that we're her [water dripping.]
- [Whispers.]
What was that? - I heard yes.
If we're not supposed to be in here, why not? Do you want us to leave? [Water dripping.]
We can hear you.
If you're trying to communicate with us, shout as loud as you can.
[Water dripping.]
[Rock thuds.]
Did you hear that? It's kind of like a rock just dropped or something.
[Dramatic music.]
Come on, do something.
Do something more than that making noises.
Is that all you got? [Eerie warbling.]
[Creaking.]
Kristen, I'm hearing something back here.
[Water dripping.]
[Falling dirt and pebbles.]
It's kind of like stuff kind of dropping back there.
[creaking.]
[Water dripping.]
What the hell was that? [Water dripping.]
There's definitely something in here with us.
[Water dripping.]
[Falling dirt and pebbles.]
Clear back.
[Water dripping.]
[Rock thuds.]
[Gasps.]
[Water dripping.]
I don't know what that was, but that wasn't right.
I say we wait till we see what the guys do tomorrow, see if it stirs it up again.
Yeah, I want to take some of this and amplify it, because we were hearing some good stuff.
Want to head back out? We'll just let the camera do its thing.
Okay.
As the mysterious ballroom raises new questions for Patrick and Kristen, the space also presents new challenges to the miners.
The men have blown away one barrier, only to find evidence of another cave-in.
That room, it don't make sense.
What the heck is that stuff doing in there? Who cares what it's doing back there? We need to make some money.
Right.
We decided we would all go back there, and we would drive the cross-cut.
We did that.
What did we run into? Another muck pile.
We may as well be staring at the caved-in portal, because that's all that is is a muck pile - that we can't get through.
- You know what? We're so close.
We might as well just take a look behind that muck pile, just a little bit further.
We're at a point right now, we've got to start producing something to get a little income, make ends meet.
Can we afford to put a couple guys dicking around on that, poking through it, and put the rest of the crew on a good heading? Yeah, I think we can, but to do that, we're gonna have to have at least one more miner.
We're talking about getting another guy? Yeah.
I don't want to sound stingy, but if we're already trying to determine how we're gonna get any money out of this thing I just don't know any miners that'll come up here on a percentage basis.
We've got a guy in mind who's willing to come up here and take a shot at it with us.
When can we get the new guy up here? I'll make the call tonight.
Let's go for it.
Does that mean I get a roommate? Yeah, Jamol, would you mind switching with the new guy and sleeping with Buckett? Hell no! [Laughter.]
Okay.
- He's got a TV.
- Okay.
[Laughter.]
With morning, Patrick and Kristen gather the crew.
Their investigation has revealed something they need to share with the miners.
I want to go over what we found in the ballroom there and get your guys' input.
Let's start from the first time we went in there, when we sent R.
I.
P.
A.
in, discovered the weird items that we couldn't really place the scythe handle, some broken glass, and, uh, just stuff that didn't fit.
So after you guys left, we conducted an investigation just to get a feel for the room.
When we went in there, we set up a time-lapse camera.
I just took a full-spectrum camera that's one of those cameras that can see light that our eyes can't pick up set it on a mount that just goes around 360 degrees, taking a photograph every 30 seconds.
It's still in there right now, actually.
We're hoping to get a full-spectrum, While that camera is still running, we want to take a minute and share with you some of the evidence that we've already captured.
Hopefully, you'll understand why we left it in there.
We conducted this EVP session standing next to the cave-in, where we felt sort of that little bit of a breeze, and we were getting some response, and, um, I want you guys to tell me what you think you hear.
So I'll play this for you, and just tell us what you hear, if anything.
Are you upset that we're here? [Whispering.]
Yes.
- Play it again.
- Play it again.
Are you upset that we're here? - ____ - [Whispering.]
Whoa! While sharing the results of their investigation of the ballroom, Patrick and Kristen reveal potential EVP evidence.
So I'll play this for you, and just tell us what you hear.
Are you upset that we're here? [Whispering.]
Yes.
- Play it again.
- Play it again.
Are you upset that we're here? [Whispering.]
Yes.
- [Laughs.]
- No way.
Whoa! [Whispering.]
Yes.
I heard a "yes.
" I heard something, but I couldn't make it out.
I I heard "yes," but could that have been from the air? You said you felt air coming through.
To get something like that through the the hole Yeah.
The microphone would have to have been right up next to it.
What do you guys think you heard? Direct response to the question.
Which was a "yes.
" What does that mean for us, if we're working back there? Every time we would ask a question, "do you want us to be in here?" "Are we disturbing your peace?" Or any type of question like that, there would be a sound, a noise.
I just got the feeling that whatever was there, um, didn't want us there.
So that's the only thing that sort of worries me.
Well, we're not gonna let that stop us.
I mean, we have to go through there.
We've we've got to go ahead, but but this is good info for us.
It kind of keeps us on our toes.
So that's it.
We know what we're doing.
- Yep.
- Yeah.
- Let's go.
- Get in and get out.
- Let's go do it.
- Right.
While they await the arrival of the new miner Come on, hurry up.
The crew shifts their focus from the ballroom in the eastern tunnel back to the lower-grade ore in the Western tunnel.
The gold content found in this rock won't make the men rich, but it might ensure a paycheck.
- I right, they're on.
- All right.
[Drilling.]
The team prepares for a routine blasting in the tunnel.
And for this round, Jay is flying solo.
It's stuck in there now.
Eddie let me take charge of drilling this round out, which was kind of a new experience for me.
I spent most of my life behind a desk, so, uh, this is probably the hardest work I've ever done.
In an attempt to shed his greenhorn status, Jay volunteers to drill all 18 of the 4-foot holes needed.
It's a grueling task, and Jay's performance reveals he still has some learning to do.
[Laughter.]
The fact that he manages to finish the job at all earns Jay some rare praise.
Well, you did it pretty quick.
- Getting better.
- Aw, thanks, man.
It was a real ego booster.
These are tough guys, and they know what they're doing, so to get a compliment like that means a lot.
- Let's go get the powder.
- All right.
It's good to compliment Jay because he picks it up a little bit, but I ain't gonna tell him he's doing a good job, 'cause that'd just be a lie, and I mean, hell with that, you know? With the blast holes drilled, Jay and Jamol take the next step to becoming full-fledged miners.
They prepare the dynamite.
All right, let's do it, buddy.
- Let's do it.
- Here we go.
With the final stick in place, the countdown begins.
- Fire in the hole! - Whoo! Get out of here.
We had our fuses set for five minutes, but once we had that lit, you come on out of the mine, and you just wait, and that's the longest five minutes.
It should go off any time now, shouldn't it? [Explosions.]
[All cheering.]
[Laughter.]
Good job, guys.
But even before the dust is cleared, an unexpected call comes through.
- Larry for Stan.
- Go ahead.
Hey, Stan, I just saw somebody up here.
I think it's the guy that was digging on the portal down there.
Uh, where ya at? He's up above the P.
I.
shack, and he's heading that way.
Okay, I'm down here at the lay-down yard.
I'll start up.
- Maybe we can fit him in.
- Copy that.
I'm gonna head outside the P.
I.
shack and look around.
Claim jumping is a constant concern at a working gold mine, and a mine owner must always be on the watch for trespassers.
What's this guy look like? Just under 6 foot probably - and wearing dark clothes.
- Copy.
Okay, I'm starting my way up right now.
I'll be there in a little bit.
Larry has us all running around, chasing a trespasser that no one seems to see.
Hey, Patrick, I can see ya.
I see ya there.
Coming down.
Gotcha.
Hey, Stan, let's see if we can't nail him in here somewhere.
Did you see him come down through here? I didn't see nothing.
You know, I've seen somebody up here.
I'm pretty sure, you know, I've seen the directions that they're taking off.
There's way too much gold up here to have to worry about somebody trying to steal it.
Yeah, I don't know, Larry, nothing.
Might as well head on back.
I'm actually gonna hold back for a little bit.
- Be careful.
- I'll meet you back up at a camp.
Okay.
I wanted to stay behind and look around a little bit more.
I just felt like someone was watching me, and it wasn't just from one area.
It felt from all around.
It reminded me of the time I was in the cemetery last year.
I felt that same quiet, had that same feeling.
[Camera shutter clicks.]
I started taking pictures with a full-spectrum camera.
And as I was doing that, I was hearing noises in different areas, so I'd point the camera and really focus on those areas.
[Camera shutter clicking.]
There's one photo I took that stands out from the rest.
It has an anomaly in it that I wanna take to Kristen and get her opinion on it.
Right there, what do you make of that? See this right here? Yeah, I see it.
That wasn't there when I took the photo.
Right after I took this photo, I kind of noticed it there.
So I looked really looked at that area.
I still didn't see it.
Well, it's definitely some sort of a blur of something.
I wonder if maybe, like, I don't know, if something landed on the lens for a split second, or I don't know what Patrick has captured with that image, but it does look like the shadow of someone.
Last year, we continued to encounter an entity we think is named Joe.
You have to wonder, have we run into him again? I heard it clear as day.
I swear it said, "Joe.
" We do have to get out there and investigate.
We'll investigate there tonight.
- All right, sounds good.
- Okay, yeah.
I brought something new for this year.
- You did? - Went into town, and I picked up this.
Whoa.
Got that old pickax.
Over a hundred years old.
So I was thinking we use this as a trigger object, 'cause it's around the same time that the Crescent was in working condition.
So if we do have a miner out here or someone who worked in the Crescent, maybe this will trigger a response.
- That's awesome, Patrick.
- Yeah.
Good idea.
All right, just keep that light in front of me real quick here.
Landscape changed so much since daytime.
It's, like, tough to tell where I'm going.
What the What is that? There's something dark right there.
What is that? What is that? While investigating an earlier sighting in the woods, Patrick and Kristen are hearing strange sounds through the trees.
That sounded like it fell off a tree.
I'd agree with you there.
All right, gonna start moving.
Where did you take the picture? Uh, right here.
Here's where I was.
Let me set the pickax down real quick.
I was hearing noises over in that area and then back over here and then up the hill.
And like I said, it was just giving me that strange feeling, like before in the cemetery, where something just seemed all around me, staring at me.
I started taking pictures.
And it was right there.
Yeah, this reminds me of when we were chasing that shadow figure after the barbecue.
We should probably do an EVP session right here.
Well, if there is anything out here, let's use that pickax as a trigger object.
So I'm gonna set a bunch of devices around it.
I brought two k2s.
I'm gonna put one on the left and then one on the right-hand side here.
And then I'm also gonna place a motion detector straight at it.
And we'll stand behind it, so we don't set it off.
[Beeps.]
Got the recorder on you? Patrick and Kristen, EVP session next to pickax.
We're gonna ask you a few questions.
For a yes answer, please light up the devices.
Is this your pickax? Were you in the woods earlier today? Wait.
Right-hand side, getting a k2 hit.
Yes.
Kristen, go ahead and keep asking questions.
I'm gonna sit right here behind the motion detector, so we don't set it off.
Who's here with us right now? Are Patrick and I disturbing you? Are you a miner? Yeah, a spike on the right.
Are you unhappy that the miners have returned to the mine? [Beeping.]
There it goes.
We're getting a hit on the motion detector.
Reset.
We heard you.
Can you do that again? Is anyone here with us right now? Anybody? Are you what we chased through the woods earlier? Spike.
What's your name? Is your name Joe? Nothing.
Did you work at the Crescent? Go ahead and move for us again.
No response.
It's just gone quiet.
But it does make me think that that pickax actually worked as a trigger object.
Mm-hmm.
We weren't getting any more hits on our k2 or motion detectors.
It was just silent.
Let's go back over all our stuff.
Yeah, let me go get the ax.
All right, let's go.
With morning, Patrick and Kristen are eager to share their findings from their investigation of the mysterious intruder.
Okay, what do you guys got for us today? I'm sure you already told the other guys about our experience with chasing the trespasser.
So I just kinda wanna recap it for you guys, just, like, kinda what we went through.
Larry related to Stan that there was a trespasser on the property, so he got me out of the P.
I.
shack.
Looking for this guy, and we didn't see anything out there.
But we followed after Larry, trying to chase this person down, and ended up in a clearing.
We hit that clearing, it felt different.
It felt strange in there.
It was very quiet.
So after you and Larry left, I stayed behind, and I started taking pictures all around me.
And as I was taking pictures, I think I captured something I wanna show you guys.
- Let's see it.
- Okay.
All right, guys, here's the photo I'm talking about.
Anyone seeing anything? Right between them trees I see something, yeah.
Yeah, it's kind of blurry.
It kinda looks like a smudge on your camera, bud.
Yeah, what do you guys think about it? You're supposed to be telling us.
It could be somebody walking around, an animal, a shadow figure.
Is it Joe, who we had evidence of last year? The truth is, we don't know what this is.
Because honestly, it really felt weird back there.
But in the event that it is something paranormal, we decided to do an investigation, and what we found was pretty revealing.
We were getting some spikes on our emf meters, and we had a motion detector set up.
We were getting some spikes on all these devices.
While this was unusual, what we discovered on the EVP recorder actually surprised us even more.
So you'll hear Kristen and I talking.
And then you'll hear something else.
So pay attention when we're in this area here.
All right, hitting play.
- That's a good way to put it.
- [Faint murmuring.]
All: Whoa.
While sharing the results of their investigation of the ballroom, Patrick and Kristen reveal potential EVP evidence.
So you'll hear Kristen and I talking.
And then you'll hear something else.
So pay attention when we're in this area here.
All right, hitting play.
- That's a good way to put it.
- [Faint murmuring.]
Need me to replay it? - Yeah, do it again.
- Here you go.
Listen again.
- That's a good way to put it.
- [Faint murmuring.]
All: Whoa.
- What are you guys hearing? - I don't know.
Just kind of some kind of fast mumbling.
It doesn't make any sense.
Again, we didn't hear this while we were there.
You didn't hear that till you played it back? Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, we listened to this countless times and just trying to figure out if we could pull out a couple words, and we couldn't figure anything out.
But we wanted to play it for you guys, just in case it was some kind of mining terms or mining phrases.
It doesn't even sound like English to me.
No.
They had a lot of swedes over here too.
- Yeah, a lot of swedes.
- Yeah, you might check, see if anybody down there talks Swede.
Yeah, that may reveal some clues to what's going on around here.
And like always, we wanna see what's going on and do our best to keep you guys safe.
We're gonna continue trying to find answers.
And if anything comes up, we're gonna try to tell you as fast as we can.
- Great.
- Thank you.
- Thank you.
- Appreciate it.
Well, that's all we got for you today.
Let's do it.
Let's hit it.
As the miners get ready for another day of work in the western tunnel, Patrick and Kristen gather the photo evidence from their 360-degree full-spectrum camera experiment in the ballroom.
They begin the painstaking process of analyzing the footage.
This time, it doesn't take long before the team finds something that demands a closer look.
Kristen, take a look at that.
Up on the wall, what do you see? Yeah, that's really odd.
Is that in the chamber? I didn't see that when we were in there.
It must be reacting to the full-spectrum light.
We should get in there.
Yeah, we have to get in there and look.
Yeah, I'll bring a hand-held full-spectrum light, and we'll get a better look.
We're not seeing anything with our headlamps.
I wanna see this in black light.
[Tense music.]
What is that? I have no idea.
What the hell is that?
