worry about any outside distractions that

in a few different directions,
and part of my job
is to help pull him back.

and you're not successful
if you don't run fast first.
The actual performance
is the most important part of this.
Everything's geared for Trials, yes.
Everything we do.

but you gotta make the team first.
So the Olympic Trials, right this minute,
are the most important meet in the world.

but I feel like a lot of the pressure
that Noah has,
he puts on himself
because of the talking that he does.

but all of this celebrity status,

who came into the Olympic year

the new generation of guys.

But I still just feel like I have,
like, new heights to reach.

about your journey.
The fact that you've had this success.

[Gabby] So I pursued my education first,
but then I fell in love
with track in college,
and what I did not expect
was how much opportunity
track and field would offer me.
I just came back last year
from World Championships in Budapest.
Um, and it went really well.
I got a silver and a gold there.

There's a lot between now
and when that first gun goes off.
How are you getting
yourself right mentally, physically?
The fun part about the Olympics is
everyone's very excited,
we're all amped up, and there are
just really high expectations.
So I know what I'm capable of.

And it's just an amazing group of women
who are competing in track and field
right now, so it's intense.

I think this is probably
the most important year of my career.

a really big year for me.
This is probably, you know, the biggest
and most important it'll ever get.
The most eyes on me.

who is going to make the team,
but as long as the 200 is her main event,
it means that she's going to
have to deal with the Jamaicans.

My athletes are some of
the toughest trained in the world,

a great accomplishment.

the objective is to qualify
all three of his athletes

that's something that's very rare.

So that is the big challenge.

You know, this is a nervous time for me.
I mean
The only thing that combats nervousness
is being prepared.
And we are that.
First and foremost,
my job as a coach is to set the tone.
Setting the tone means that everybody
needs to come with the proper attitude.
Both mentally and emotionally
get ready to do this job.

[Dennis] With us as a family,
we've already established that bond
that I'm gonna be there
with you through thick and through thin.
And my job is
to assist them through that journey.

in the United States, it's very stacked.

on that day at that given time.
It's always gonna
be a dogfight to make a team.

they got some pins with my face on it.

[Melissa] You come into this meet,
and you know there's no playing around.
There's no "gimme."
I feel like that's the thing about USA,
is that makes it that intense.

There are some great athletes there.

because they're all such dynamic
personalities in their own right,
and they make it known,
"Yeah, I wanna win."
It's amazing to watch.

coming into the 100-meter final,
it's possible that
all three could get on the team.

is a fantastic athlete.

less than her best and still win races.

But you don't get the sense
from TeeTee that she ever feels like,

And so Dennis has to
get the best out of TeeTee.

and you can't call them on the phone
and say, "Hey, I forgot to tell you this."
Okay, athletes. We're gonna
head down to the start.
[Dennis] But you have to be comfortable
in the process that you've put in place
and the things that you've done
to get your athletes there.
I can't worry about that.

that you're running against

So you can never underestimate
the person that's next to you.
