- What are you doing over here?
- [Gonzo] Hello!
- It's morning. We're fresh, got coffee.
- [Christina] Good morning.
- [Maya-Camille] Good morning, Chef.
- Hello.
Squad, let's give a warm welcome
to Fatin and Omar.
- Hi.
- Welcome, guys.
So, Fatin, I hear you're a pretty big fan
of Bake Squad. Is that true?
It's true. That's very true.
I am trying not to fangirl.
I am, like, trying to stay calm,
but I'm very excited to be here.
- You're playing it off well.
- [laughs]
So, Fatin, you know this.
These four create desserts
like you've never seen before.
The squad is on a mission to sprinkle
a little bit of happiness at big events,
which means they're whipping up
some pretty exquisite desserts.
- Oh, yeah.
- [Christina] In a moment,
you're gonna brief the Bake Squad
on what you're looking for.
Bake Squad is gonna take note
of your likes, your dislikes.
When you come back in a few short hours,
you will have four stunning desserts.
The two of you will pick which one you
want to serve at your party. Sound good?
- Yeah.
- Sounds amazing.
Let's tell our bakers
a bit about the two of you.
You're happily married.
For how many years?
- Five years almost.
- Almost five years.
[Omar] And, uh,
we just moved to California.
Oh, look at the two of you.
That's your beautiful family.
[Gonzo] Oh my God.
Aww.
Let's play a game.
Any ideas what the event might be?
A 100th birthday party
for your grandparents.
Vegas bachelorette party for your sister.
[Christina giggles]
A wedding?
- [Christina] Check the rings.
- They're already married.
Fatin and Omar,
tell our bakers about this event.
When we first got married,
we got pregnant right away.
And we've gotten pregnant again,
but lost that pregnancy, unfortunately.

that we're expecting

Oh!

to somehow reveal that we're pregnant.

- A surprise factor to it.
It's gonna be a fun one.
Tell me a little bit
about your family unit.
Well, we love to be outdoors.
So we love hiking.
[Fatin] We love eating out in restaurants
and trying unique foods.

- What's on the dessert menu normally?

Give us a little bit more of an insight
into the event itself.
- We're gonna do it at our house.
- [Fatin] Dinner with friends and family.
Our friends and family
have been there for us emotionally.
They've been there
to take care of my daughter.
So we just wanna thank them,
and want them to be as excited as we are.
Oh, nice. Okay. Love it.
I just have to say,
we are so, so, so happy for you.
And we are so excited
to help you pull off this epic surprise.
- And remember, we need a reveal.
- Mm-hm.
[Christina] This dessert
needs to do two jobs.
It's gotta be perfect for the housewarming
and it's gotta transform this party
into an exciting pregnancy announcement.
Yes.

Fatin and Omar will be back here
to take a look at those desserts,
and to taste 'em.

- Please.
I c-c-came to party
So let's get this thing started ♪
What are you thinking?
I'm thinking about just creating
a giant chocolate box.
Like a gift box made out of chocolate.
So they actually get to open the lid.
The walls will open up,
and you get to reveal your beautiful baby,
made out of chocolate.
Oh my gosh. I cannot wait to see this.
The trickiest part is going to be
making sure that the actual walls
open up this way and not inwards,
because otherwise, they will
smash the baby I'm putting inside.
- That would definitely ruin the vibe.
- Fingers crossed. [laughs]
- [Christina] Christophe.
- Hi, Chef.
- What's the vision?
- Today, I'm making a life-sized crib.
- [Christina] Ever made a crib before?
- [Christophe] Never done a crib.
- I don't have a baby.
- Of course your first crib is edible.
[laughs] Yes, all the fence
will be made of chocolate.
The mattress is gonna be all cake.
- Raspberry. Vanilla.
- [Christina] Oh! You wanna win.
- Yes, I want to win.
- Boom!
Okay. You are the illusionist, right?
And by the way,
everything has to be delicious.
Yes, it will be.
- Keep at it.
- [Christophe] Thank you.
What are you envisioning?
I really grabbed onto
their laid-back Cali vibes.
Yeah.
So I'm really wanting to give them,
like, a sweet, very elegant cake.
- Nice.
- Shocking. I'm doing cake! [laughs]
What if you cut it open,
and inside of that cake, it says "baby"?
- [Gonzo] That's the surprise factor there.
- They'll be like, "What does that say?"
I love it.
- MC.
- Hey, Chef. How are you?
What are you thinking?
If you have a Middle Eastern family,
what desserts would you have?
- Middle Eastern desserts.
- Middle Eastern.
And he said he loves baklava.
So I am thinking milk pudding,
baklava, and Turkish delight,
which is these little confections
that consist of starch and sugar.
It's almost like
a Middle Eastern gummy of sorts.
- Yeah.
- Like a jelly bean meets a gummy bear.
- Exactly.
- I like this a lot.
And oftentimes, baklava is filled
with pistachios typically.
But I made pecan pie,
so why not make a pecan baklava
with cinnamon in it?
If you get this right, you are creating
a new family memory for them.
But those flavors have to be just right.
Otherwise, you messed with the dessert
that they know and they love,
and they will pick you to pieces.
But I love the vision.
Now how do I know they're having a baby?
I want to hide the sonogram
under the dessert.
It's right under you the whole time,
and you don't know until enough people
have gone in for dessert.
That's a really cute moment.
Did she give you the sonogram?

with a honey-saffron syrup soak,
filled with a delicious
pistachio pastry cream.
On the outside, we have
the really nice, subtle color palette

What's the reveal?
[Ashley] So I'm thinking
I can have the top tier of the cake
say "baby" when they cut it open.
I love this vision.
- But let's get down to brass tacks.
- Okay.
This is a lot easier to draw
than it is to execute.
I've seen people do it,
and you cut in
and the letters are freaking backwards.
I imagine you're gonna
want to test this out a few times.
So you need to be 100% confident
that when I slice
into this beautiful cake,
that we are gonna get a beautiful B-A-B-Y.
- No pressure.
- Thank you.
- Draw it out in your head. Good luck.
- Thank you.
I gotta start pouring chocolate ASAP.
This takes a long time to crystallize.
What are you making?
I'm making a giant chocolate box.
Good for you.
[laughs]
For this giant display,
I am creating a huge box
with six different panels.
And they're 2.5 feet tall, 2.5 feet wide.
I have to make sure
every single one of these pieces
are perfectly even, nice, and flat.
- Gonzo, what's the idea?
- [Gonzo] Hello.
The big idea is going to be
this massive chocolate box.
That once I remove the lid,
the walls will actually open
and reveal an actual chocolate baby
with a lot of other confections inside.
Okay. So, I'm pulling the ribbon,
and it's like, "Ta-da!"
That's gonna be the hardest part.
Just shooting from the hip,
and I'm gonna wing this one.
You sure about this?
Hey, I'm a risk-taker,
so it's all or nothing.
- [Christina] Good luck.
- Thank you.
Christophe, I brought something from home.
- You did?
- [Ashley] Catch.
- [gasps]
- [laughs]
[Ashley] It was a joke!
That was good.
[Gonzo] We're gonna work
on the marshmallows.
[upbeat music plays]
Toasted almond.
Right now, I am getting the base
of my Turkish delight.
So the flavor for these Turkish delights
includes rose,
because they love rose flavor,
and also passion fruit.
Rose is a flavoring
that you have to be very gentle with.
You can't pour a lot of it
because then it just tastes like
you're eating a whole bouquet of flowers.
And that, my friend, is a no-no.
And now I have to do it all over again
for the passion fruit flavor.
Am I the only one here that has a baby?
I am, aren't I?
I have two fur babies. Charlie and Cacao.
The thing with that is you didn't carry
Charlie and Cacao in your belly.
You don't know what it's like.
That's true.
It gives me a slight advantage
because I know
what maybe Fatin would want
for her pregnancy reveal.
Just saying, just saying.
[laughs]
[Christophe] I'm doing the, um,
rice cereal treats for the pillow.
Get this cake in the oven.
Ashley, I'm not only making
one cake today, but two kinds of cakes.
Two cakes?
Today I'm doing two different cakes.
One chocolate and one vanilla.
Flour, cocoa powder.
Which is not my forte at all.
Instead of making
beautiful sugar showpieces,
I'm here making cakes
trying to get a win against Ashley,
when she is queen of cakes.
But I have to push myself
to make it happen.
Vanilla cake.
So the mattress cake
will be a vanilla cake
with fresh raspberry
and vanilla buttercream.
And then, over the top,
we are putting the imprinted Joconde,
which is a sponge cake
that looks like fitted sheets.
It's time to create the pattern
for the sheet with my egg white,
powdered sugar, flour,
a little bit of blue.
And now I can just pour over
my Joconde batter and bake in the oven.
[upbeat music plays]
In order for my cake to say "baby,"
I need to bake the letters
inside of the cake.
I'm gonna need a sheet cake
baked in a different color,
cut out some letters,
and then I'll cover it in cake batter.
I've never done a cake quite like this.
The placement of these letters
are super important
because if the letters
float around the cake batter,
it's not gonna say "baby."
It'll just look like this mess.
I'm testing out this cake.
I'm gonna try and hold the letters
in place with a toothpick.
A little "Y."
Gonna try different amounts of cake batter
and figure out what works, what doesn't,
so we'll get a nice,
perfectly legible cake when we slice it.
Oh, shoot, I turned my oven off.

it has more chance to stay in its place.
Thinner cake. You gotta get "baby" right.

three times already and it's not working.
- I don't have a backup plan.
- Think you're gonna make it?
I'm gonna do my best.
I'm gonna use less cake batter this time.
So, uh I'm feeling
as good as I can about this one.
Yay.
[upbeat music plays]
[Christophe] Ooh la la, Chef.
Look at this.
- [Christina] The blanket?
- [Christophe] Right.
- Look at the stars and the moons.
- [Christophe] It's gonna be beautiful.
I'm trying to create
this beautiful, cartoony-looking baby
to put inside of the actual box.
That is going to be
the reveal of the party.
I made shells, and I turned that
into the body and the head of the baby.
So, after that,
I'm going to use modeling chocolate
for the eyes and all
the other characteristics to my baby.
All right, I need to jump
on the assembly of the baby.
[upbeat music plays]
You carry this baby like he was yours.
- It's our baby.
- How do you wanna call him?
Cronzo.
Oh my gosh. Cronzo it is.
[laughs]
[Ashley] The lines of the cake comb
are more of a guide than anything else.
I feel pretty confident in this design,
but piping this kind of detail on a cake
takes a lot of focus
and awareness of making sure
I have even color distribution,
making sure the various textures
are also evenly distributed.
It has to be this, like, controlled chaos.
The end result is just so exciting.
Cake, pastry cream, raspberry.
All right, so the first Turkish delight
is coming out of the pan.
And this is
mango.
The design for the way
that I lay the treats out
is inspired by Islamic geometric design,
which is often seen in the mosaic
tile patterns in the Middle East.
Let's get to work.
This is the most important part,
because trying to figure out this pattern
If I cut a piece at one wrong angle,
it could throw off
the entire mosaic design.
Okay, let's start with that.
Christophe, what've you got going on here?
So I need to finish my bed.
I need to put my fence around.
But it's a housewarming party,
then it becomes a baby announcement.
What's the surprise?
- Do you have any ideas?
- What if I give you a photo wall.
- Oh.
- That they can
- Pose behind, take a picture.
- Oh, take a picture.
Then at the very end [whooshes]
I love that idea.
- It'll work. I'm on it.
- Let's do it. Thank you.
This is a very big and hefty box,
and the hardest part of this
is the fact
that I'm only gluing two of the panels,
and leaving two of them
able to actually release and open up.
So building an actual box
that is not completely glued together,
it's actually very risky,
because one of the panels
could actually cave in
and fall on top of my baby.
G, you've got three of the four walls up.
And what are you thinking?
That lid goes on at the very last second?
Yeah, I need to assemble
everything on the inside
and then spray everything on the outside.
- I'm gonna give you your space.
- Thank you, let it go.
- Thanks for holding it.
- See if it stands.
- I'm here if you need me.
- Thank you.
Time is ticking, and I still
have to finish the little rattle.
And I have to make more pillows,
so I have to move really fast right now.
[tense music plays]
[Ashley] This is a clay extruder.
It lets me extrude out little pieces
of fondant like a braided rope,
which is perfect for this macramé tier.
Macramé is a really old art form
of braided and twisted ropes
that originated in the Middle East.
There we go.
This is another decorating technique
that is very time-consuming,
but I think that Fatin and Omar are gonna
appreciate this little nod to home.
[Ashley sighs]
- Okay, Ashley. I really need your help.
- Okay.
I want to create
a couple of stuffed animals
that when you see them,
you want to cuddle them.
Both the stuffed animals
will have exactly the same flavor.
Layers of chocolate cake
with toasted almond
and chocolate mousseline.
All the things that Omar loves inside
those two beautiful stuffed animals.
How can I make a bunny?
I know how to make cakes, but those big,
sculpted cakes, this is not my thing,
so I'm going to rely on Ashley to give me
some pointers to make this happen.
You wanna have
the buttercream in the center
so it's like a column in the middle.
It's gonna hold everything together.
[Christophe] Oh, that's the trick.
I'm just following Ashley's instruction,
and make some magic happen here.
[upbeat music plays]
We are nearly there, Bake Squad.
Be smart. You have one hour.
[Ashley] Oh my gosh.
Stay focused. Stay calm.
Let's see this baby.
Time for me to assemble the crib.
So the pieces of my fence are good to go.
I remove all the planks
and glue them together.
We are assembling the bottom.
Little bit of cold spray.
- Maya-Camille. What do you think?

What about you, Omar? What did you think
of the rosewater almond financier?
Yeah, you You can actually

I feel like the chocolate also has that

[Christina] The vanilla bean meringue
I think is genius.
It's like a masterclass
in what a meringue is meant to be, right?
Not too much flavor.
It's not overwhelming, not underwhelming.
And the texture is absolutely on point.
- Dry and crunchy all the way through.
- It's just perfect. It's a good texture.
Gonzo, well done, and thank you.
Thank you very much.
I'm glad you guys liked it.

- [Omar] Beautiful.
- [Fatin] Middle Eastern vibes.
Okay, tell them about the dessert.
[Maya-Camille] I made baklava,
and Turkish delights,
and milk puddings.
Everything intricately placed.
One thing that I will say is,
the center mosaic,
those are my favorite bites
right in the middle, of course.
[Omar] Gotta try some of this baklava.
That is syrupy.
[Fatin] Beautiful.
It's a beautiful mosaic.
[Maya-Camille chuckles]

That is adorable.
That's our little baby.
I imagine that your family

- [Fatin] Yeah.
- [Omar] A cool reveal.
Thank you so much.
I'm known for making pies,

so you really nailed it with that.
And the baklava was so flaky.
It's satisfying.
I really like it.
I think my family would like it too.
Then the Turkish delights are flavored
in rose as well as passion fruit.
I think the flavor was brought out
perfectly. Texture's great.
You can just keep eating it. It's light.
That's why I haven't stopped eating.
[laughter]
You nailed the Turkish delights.
I think the texture is spot on.
It's both light and chewy.
The balance of both the starchy syrup
and the sugar syrup was brilliant.
Thank you very much. And congratulations

[upbeat music plays]
Well, you two.
Fatin, Omar, what do you think?

so I'm going to rely on Ashley to give me
some pointers to make this happen.
You wanna have
the buttercream in the center
so it's like a column in the middle.
It's gonna hold everything together.
[Christophe] Oh, that's the trick.
I'm just following Ashley's instruction,
and make some magic happen here.
[upbeat music plays]
We are nearly there, Bake Squad.
Be smart. You have one hour.
[Ashley] Oh my gosh.
Stay focused. Stay calm.
Let's see this baby.
Time for me to assemble the crib.
So the pieces of my fence are good to go.
I remove all the planks
and glue them together.
We are assembling the bottom.
Little bit of cold spray.
- Maya-Camille. What do you think?
- [Maya-Camille] Wow. This is perfect.
[Gonzo groans] Hustle, hustle.
[Christophe] Modeling chocolate.
[upbeat music plays]
All right, Bake Squad, 30 minutes to go.
You got this.
[upbeat music plays]
[Ashley] Oh my gosh, there is no time.
[Gonzo] I have no idea how I'm gonna
get this done in the next 30 minutes.

- [Christina] Gonzo.
- How are you, guys? Welcome.
They're back.
Please introduce the dessert.
What we have here is Baby on Board.
This is a beautiful gift box
made out of chocolate.
I have many, many confections in here.
- Very excited about what's inside.
- What do you think's inside?
Hopefully, some kind of message
that we're pregnant.
- [Omar] Some sort of reveal.
- Gonzo's like, "Oh, I forgot that part."
I'm just joking.
- You guys ready?
- Yeah.
One, two, three.
[upbeat music plays]
- Aww, so cute!
- [Christina] Baby on Board!
- That'll definitely give it away.
- [Fatin laughs]
[Gonzo] The baby is made
out of chocolate, obviously.
Everything you see in here
is chocolate, sweets, and confections.
We have dry meringues,
we have dark chocolate and milk chocolate,
with different nuts,
like pistachio, almond, hazelnuts.
We have these little rochers,
like cereal with actual chocolate as well.
We also have financiers,
and those are actually made
with a bit of rosewater.
[Christina] Fatin,
what do you think flavor-wise
on your dark chocolate rochers?
It's delicious. The chocolate's delicious.
Is it cinnamon?
- There's cinnamon cereal in there.
- [Fatin] It comes out.
- That's good.
- [Fatin] Definitely a good combo.
What about you, Omar? What did you think
of the rosewater almond financier?
Yeah, you You can actually
taste the rosewater.
I feel like the chocolate also has that
crunch and perfect flavor. It's amazing.
[upbeat music plays]
- Maya-Camille.
- Chef.
- [Omar] Beautiful.
- [Fatin] Middle Eastern vibes.
Okay, tell them about the dessert.
[Maya-Camille] I made baklava,
and Turkish delights,
and milk puddings.
Everything intricately placed.
One thing that I will say is,
the center mosaic,
those are my favorite bites
right in the middle, of course.
[Omar] Gotta try some of this baklava.
That is syrupy.
[Fatin] Beautiful.
It's a beautiful mosaic.
[Maya-Camille chuckles]
Should I just keep putting on my plate?
That is adorable.
That's our little baby.
I imagine that your family
will be picking, you know, enjoying,
then all of a sudden,
"What is that? Who's pregnant?"
- [Fatin] Yeah.
- [Omar] A cool reveal.
Thank you so much.
I'm known for making pies,
and one of my most popular is a pecan pie.
So I wanted to put pecans
and cinnamon sugar in the baklava.
I love it. I love that [laughs]
Now I know why they call her
the flavor queen. [laughs]
Delicious. I do love pecan pie,
so you really nailed it with that.
And the baklava was so flaky.
It's satisfying.
I really like it.
I think my family would like it too.
Then the Turkish delights are flavored
in rose as well as passion fruit.
I think the flavor was brought out
perfectly. Texture's great.
You can just keep eating it. It's light.
That's why I haven't stopped eating.
[laughter]
You nailed the Turkish delights.
I think the texture is spot on.
It's both light and chewy.
The balance of both the starchy syrup
and the sugar syrup was brilliant.
Thank you very much. And congratulations
on such an incredible feat.
[upbeat music plays]

and it had that emotional aspect to it.
[Christophe] So this dessert
will be Home, Sweet Home.
All the outside of the crib
is 100% chocolate.
[Fatin] Oh, wow.
[Christophe] Our mattress
is a vanilla cake
with fresh raspberry
and vanilla buttercream.
Then we have our stuffed animal cakes.
It's going to be a chocolate cake
