Kid Cosmic and the Pyramid Puzzle of Pain

1
[Kid] Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
[eerie music playing]
So… inside that thing is a Stone of Power?
According to the Sacred Scroll
of the Stones, yes.
And we need to get the stone so we can
use its power to help save the galaxy.
Easy Peasy.
So we gotta get in?
How?
Exactly.
Well, lemme "see" if I can figure it out…
Nope, danger! How about if we, uh…
No, more danger! Maybe…
Danger! Danger! Danger!
Ah, sorry, I got nothing.
Ugh!
Now, don’t you start "ugh-ing" on us, Jo.
It might look impossible,
but I’ve seen this team do
plenty of impossible things.
Who saved the diner from those
Demon Death Dogs of Doom?
We did.
Who saved the Not Evil Aliens
from that nasty Biker in Black?
We did.
And who defeated Fantos
and gained the Multi-Arm stone?
Uh, we did.
And who’s gonna solve
the Puzzle of the Pyramid
and get another Stone of Power?
Huh! We are! We are! We are!
Muah!
Mom, stop! I’m supposed to be the leader.
Oh yes, got it. Got it. Yes, sir… ma'am.
Take your time, sweetie. There’s no rush.
Don’t feel pressured. No pressure at all.
Freakin’ out?
Breathe it out.
Oh, that’s good.
Freakin’ out? Breathe it out.
Freakin’ out? Breathe it out.
Freakin’ out? Breathe it out!
Freakin’ out? Breathe it out!
-Frea--
-Guys!
-Sorry.
-Sorry.
[Jo] Get inside. Get a stone.
How hard could it be?
We just gotta find a way in. Woo!
[Flo] Sometimes it helps me
if I look at a problem from all sides.
[space music playing]
[music changes rhythmically]
[all sigh]
[Jo] Ugh!
Okay, we’re not gonna figure anything out
staring at the bottom.
Maybe the answer’s at the top?
Come on, team,
let’s take another run at it.
[upbeat music playing]
Ahh!
Ha, ha, ha!
[Papa G and clones yelling]
[squeaking]
Ahh!
[Tuna] Night 20.
Our leader still seems
to have some get up and go,
but for the rest of us,
it’s got up and gone.
Try as we might…
this cosmic conundrum has us
all knocked for a loop.
All except she.
She hasn’t succumbed to the silent
mocking of our heartless host.
She refuses to see the reflected face
of failure before her.
She is the one who shall finally lead us
out of this Grop forsaken…
Oh.
[Kid] Jo, you okay?
I just wanted to come over and say
it’s… snot all bad.
I believe in mu-cus.
I can’t think of a booger
leader than you! I--
Okay, stop.
Good 'cause that’s all
the booger puns I snot.
[screams]
-Kid!
-[Kid screams]
-Jo, help!
-[Jo] Ahh!
[Tuna] There you go.
Don’t let him slip away. scoop him up!
-Every last drop!
-Don’t worry, we’ll get him!
[Jo] Catch him!
-[Papa G] Kid, you all there?
-Yeah, I think so.
[Flo] Ahh! No nose!
It's missing!
Ew, ew, ew.
Ah! What was that all about?
[Jo] Guys!
"Bide your time, and you will find
what you’ll need to buy what’s mine."
-What the heck does that mean?
-[gasps] It's a puzzle!
I love puzzles!
You and your puzzles.
This isn’t Sudoku, Mom.
Oh, they’re all the same
at the end of the day.
It just takes brainpower.
Now, what was that again?
"Bide your time, and you will find
what you’ll need to buy what’s mine."
Hmmm…
I got it!
I solved the puzzle.
You sure did, Rosa,
but this is not that kinda puzzle.
Yeah, this is a complicated cosmic
conundrum of unfathomable difficulty.
It's… Rosa, no!
[clinks]
[chimes]
[gasps] You will find
what you’ll need to buy what’s mine.
Yes! That’s it!
Find and buy!
It’s like a coin slot in an arcade game.
Puzzle solved.
Way to go, Rosa!
Way to goo, Kid! [chuckles]
Whew!
Finally!
That took forever to figure out.
Now what?
We wait for it to open up and
give us the Stone of Power.
Maybe it takes fifty cents.
[clinks]
[chimes]
All right, team,
grab all the sand dollars you can find.
[upbeat music playing]
Got one…
and another and another.
[clinks]
What cost is one willing to pay for power?
When is enough enough?
When does the toll finally take a toll?
When does--
Tsst! Bad kitty!
Don't tsst me!
Nine hundred ninety-five,
nine hundred ninety-six,
nine hundred ninety-seven,
nine hundred ninety-eight,
nine hundred ninety-nine,
one thousand!
-Ugh!
-Ah!
One thousand and one.
[chimes]
Guys, something’s happening.
Finally!
You’ve earned this one, honey.
[pulsing]
[dramatic music playing]
New Stone of Power, here we come!
[chimes]
Uh, what's this?
[space music playing]
Aw, no! Another stupid puzzle?
-Aw, I thought we won!
-[crying]
Gropdamn these flack-trangled
space contraptions!
Huh.
Let’s see…
"Wait and watch until you see
where it is you need to be."
Hmm, I wonder what…
-[chimes]
-[thuds]
Ahh!
[sighs]
Kid, you almost gave me a heart attack!
[chimes]
[thudding]
Okay…
This place is definitely
more than just fun puzzles.
It’s a death trap.
Slow down and do this right.
"Slow down"?
You mean slower
than what we just went through?
If that’s what it takes
to keep everyone safe, then yes.
-We don’t want to do anything too risky…
-"Risky"?
What was that thing Xhan said?
-[Flo] What was that?
-Nothing.
Hmm. Maybe we look at this problem
from a different angle.
I agree.
I don't think this is the solution
the puzzle maker had in mind.
[laughs]
It tickles!
You said to look
at things from a different angle.
Well, I like the view
from under our protective Rosa shield.
Ros-umbrella.
Jo, cheating your way through life
always leads to disaster.
Today, it’s leading us out of that room.
-Good thinking, Jo!
-Way to go, Jo!
-[Tuna] This is easy.
-Yay!
[thuds]
Okay. Let’s see what we get this ti…
"Every step could be your last,
but every step you’ll need to pass."
Yeah, but what about…
Yeah, got it.
We gotta climb a lot of steps.
Might as well get started.
Yes, but "every step could be your last"
sounds dangerous to me.
Better test the waters before diving in.
Try different approaches, then only
proceed when we find the right one.
We can’t afford any mistakes.
[Jo] It’s a set of stairs, Mom.
How big a mistake could we make?
Ahh!
Kid!
Ahh!
Pretty big!
You trying to give me
another heart attack?
No prob.
We’ll just use our superpowers again.
This is the perfect time for me
to discover the power of flight
was in my heart all along.
[grunts]
[plops]
Nope. Gooed again.
Don’t worry, Kid.
I’m thinking this adventure is Rated "G."
[adventurous music playing]
[Papa G clones] Oof. Ow.
Watch my spleen. Ah!
Try the head! [grunting]
Oh! Ah, that’s my eye. [grunting]
Okay, all right. Oh!
Mom! Come on!
You’re wasting your and our time.
Oh pardon me.
No worries.
[sighs]
"Door by door can be a bore,
but soon you’ll want to open more."
Don’t worry. I got this.
Kid! Wait!
[roars]
Ahh!
Heart attack three! Please!
See? That was clearly the wrong door.
And they’re only gonna get more wrong
and more deadly.
You gotta look for the instructions
inside the puzzle.
"Door by door. Open more…"
So even though they’re dangerous,
we have to open them all somehow.
Not when we’ve got
the Feline Emergency Warning System.
Danger, danger, danger, danger.
I really don’t think
we should be skipping past these doors.
Hold up!
I’m 99.9 percent sure opening this door
won’t end in a horrible death.
You were saying?
Look, the stone!
Ha! I told you this wasn’t a trap!
[dramatic music playing]
But look!
What’s that?
"Buy your time, or you will find
that you’ll need to bide in mine."
Uh, someone’s getting lazy.
It’s the same riddle as the first one.
No, it’s not.
It uses most of the same words,
but they’re in a different order.
[Kid] What are these shapes on the wall?
[chimes]
Way to go, Flo!
You got any other magical doohickeys
for these here geometric wall slots?
No, I don’t.
Because we didn’t solve any other puzzles.
We cheated our way here.
Every challenge up to now
has almost killed Kid.
Not to mention me
via multiple heart attacks.
Going in unprepared
to any situation is suicide.
We need these tokens.
-Now I suggest we go back and--
-[Jo groans]
This has been hard enough already!
I’ve got a simpler solution.
Jo, please, it’s too risky.
Then we’ll just have to…
defy the odds!
I’ve always hated puzzles anyway.
[alarm blaring]
-Ahh!
-Ahh!
Ahh!
Danger! Danger! Danger!
Too little, too late.
No ledge no, no go!
Everybody, ru…
…N?
[laughs] I’ve got super speed! Mom, I've…
Mom?
Kid?
Rosa?
Tuna? Papa?
Oh no.
Ahh!
Oh my Grop! They're all gonna die!
Think, Jo. The only way to save them
is get the tokens.
The only way is to do
what I should’ve done in the first place.
Slow down and do this right.
Except really fast.
[action music playing]
[chinking]
[chimes]
Okay, this time instead of using
the Ros-umbrella, I just need to…
[chimes]
[thuds]
Ugh! I made it through without cheating!
Why am I not getting
the nice happy chime and the token?
Why didn’t that work?
Maybe I need to look at things
from a different angle.
[chimes]
[thuds]
[chimes]
Yes!
Ahh!
Ugh! Now I have to climb
all these stupid stairs.
No, no, no, no, no! [groans]
Ahh!
There’s gotta be a trick to this.
I just need to find it.
Test the waters before I dive in.
[bleeping]
[Jo] So far so good…
[screams]
"Every step."
[chuckles] I have to step on every step!
[chimes]
Ahh!
Don’t goo. Don’t goo. Don’t goo!
Well, this one’s easy
because I already know which door is…
Ahh!
I’m sure that was the door
we used last time.
Did the rooms move?
Jeez, pyramid designer dude!
I know I cheated the first time through,
but moving doors is cheating too!
[sighs]
"Door by door can be a bore,
but soon you’ll want to open more."
What does that mean?
Jeez, again, pyramid designer dude!
Why perplexing puzzles
and not clearly written instructions?
Wait…
Instructions…
They’re numbered!
Ha! They’re instructing me
to open them in order!
Ha, ha! Thanks, pyramid designer dude!
[yells]
[roars]
[screams]
[roars]
[Jo screams]
[firing]
[shouts]
[roars faintly]
[buzzing]
[buzzing]
[bangs]
Ahh!
[thuds]
[shouts]
[sizzling]
[chimes]
Ahh!
Ahh!
-[Papa G] Slow down!
-[Rosa] You’re making me dizzy!
[Kid] Super speed? No fair!
[Jo] I got a speed stone
and all the tokens to save you.
I can’t talk now. Trust me!
Jo!
Happy chime!
Green glow!
No death!
Yeah!
And I didn’t goo!
Jo! You did it!
You got the tokens and saved us!
Wow!
Talk about leadership! How’d you do it?
Well, you know,
I looked at the different angles,
tested the waters before jumping in,
and found the instructions
inside the puzzle.
[Kid] Man,
how did you ever figure that out?
[Jo] Kid, I have no idea.
[all] Yay!
[Papa G] Way to go, Jo!
Woo-hoo! That's the way, Jo!
Oh no! Mom! Not another heart attack!
Nope.
I’m okay.
Thanks to you.
Thanks to me?
You all almost died thanks to me.
Well, we didn’t, did we?
How many? [scoffs]
You may tell her
I will indeed attend the affair,
but I shall bring as many, or as few,
guests as I wish.
Thank you. You may go.
Shoo! Shoo!
Jo!
Congratulations, Jo!
The Kid tells me
the mission was a success.
[sighs] Thanks.
I am relatively unfamiliar
with human behavior,
but this does not seem
to be the correct reaction.
I just can’t help
but feel like I screwed up.
I mean, I went in there determined to be
a good leader and get that stone, but…
all the calls I made put my friends
and family in horrible danger.
They could've died.
But they didn’t.
-But they could have.
-But they didn’t.
But they could have!
But they didn’t.
But they… Okay,
exactly where is this conversation going?
Jo, you took risks, yes,
but you defied the odds
like a true leader.
Your team lives,
you have the speed stone,
and we are one step closer
to defeating Erodious.
All the decisions you made,
risky or no, have brought you to this end.
And that end is victory!
Yeah.
-I guess it was.
-[bell dings]
Jo! Clean up on table 12.
More coffee for eight, nine, and 13.
And restock the restroom
with toilet paper. We’re all out!
[phone rings]
Ugh!
Duty calls.
Thanks.
No, thank you.
[closing theme music playing]
