The 4x4 Attack
1
Did he deliberately use drifting?
Does he intend to use
the techniques from rally race
in this death zone?
Wow, this is
ATTENTION FLAG
After entering the death zone,
the disappeared flag
is showing on Car No. 86 again.
This is Takumi Fujiwara's
authentic Zero Counter Drift.
Project D's undefeated downhill ace
has descended upon Lake Ashinoko.
Drifting through every corner.
That wild boy has stirred up
quite a bit of buzz.
But with a chassis tuned
by an excellent Porsche test racer,
I wouldn't need to drive so hard.
Alright, entering the Ekiden Straight.
Although the vehicle's
power unit is 2.5 liters,
the power of the 7-speed PDK
is propelling the car at top speed.
He really is great.
The German-made robot
has shown us his speed.
Michael Beckenbauer
beautifully has taken pole position.
But the second place, Kouki Sawatari,
has also set
LAKE ASHINOKO GT, FINAL QUALIFYING RESUL
an impressive track record.
And amidst these warlords,
Kanata Katagiri, who exhibited superb
racing skills, finished in 10th place.
KAMAKURA STATION
Will these new stars of speed
change the power map of MFG?
I have a feeling that
the final race of Lake Ashinoko G
will have dramatic developments.
And then, Wakana is
just cool, right?
Sorry.
I don't really know
when it's time to say "cool".
Is that so?
Well
You can say it when you hear great music,
or are surprised by delicious food
at a place you visit for the first time.
I see.
Also
You can use it when you see someone
wearing clothes with questionable taste,
or when someone has terrible exam results.
Eh?
That's completely the opposite
of the first two examples.
This phrase is just too difficult.
I don't think I can use it.
TO FUJISAWA
ENOSHIMA LINE, ENOSHIMA STATION
I have a favor to ask of you.
What is it?
I'm about to receive
my part-time job's salary.
Oh, I see.
I plan to use that to treat your family to a meal,
as you've always taken good care of me.
Huh?
How can we accept that?
You earned it from hard work,
so you should spend it on yourself.
No.
I've decided to do this a long time ago.
What I'd like to ask of you is
to help me choose the restaurant.
Please tell me about the place
your family often visits.
Kanata is such a good kid.
I see, I'll do my best to help.
My parents will surely be moved.
I hope they will be happy.
I want to give them a surprise.
Please help me keep it a secret.
Sorry for the wait.
Here is the Shirasu Don.
Wow!
It's beyond my imagination.
How do I eat this?
My suggestion is
to pour a little soy sauce on it.
Then eat it together with the rice.
It's delicious.
I'll start.
Close my eyes.
Go.
It's surprising.
You can't imagine how tasty it is
just by looking at it.
Isn't it? Cool, right?
Cool.
By the way, Ren,
what is Shirasu?
It's a type of whitebait.
A small fish.
Is it the fry of some fish?
Or is it already mature?
I don't know that.
Let's look it up on the internet.
Uh the Shirasu
refers to white fry
that lack pigmentation.
They are mainly sardine types,
but also include the fry of fish
like herring and eels.
Wow.
Please enjoy your meal.
Thank you for the explanation.
I had no idea.
I've learned something new.
It can't be wrong.
He is MFG's super rookie, Kanata Katagiri.
I never thought he would
come to our restaurant.
I'm so moved.
Thank you for the hospitality.
Thank you for your visit.
Please make sure to visit us again.
Also,
good luck with the final race
of Lake Ashinoko GT.
You've been recognized.
That was the first time,
I didn't know how to react.
I've told you before.
30 million people around the world
know you now.
You can wear sunglasses
like those foreign celebrities.
That's not cool at all.
(MF GHOST 2nd Season)
(Turn14: 4x4 Attack)
The top two have both
broken the track record.
It's really impressive.
They have considerably
renewed the track records.
By the way, how is it compared
to that legendary record?
Compared to that,
it has only a slight advantage.
I see.
MFG OFFICIAL MOVIE DEMO RUN
That was Keisuke's single-lap record.
MFG OFFICIAL MOVIE DEMO RUN
Coming into the 4th year,
the racers have finally reached
the level where they can break it.
By the way, what is the weather forecast
for the day of the finals?
It seems there's a high chance of rain.
Oh dear.
A race in the rain would
be full of complications.
Be prepared.
Yes.
Speaking of rain,
Project D's downhill ace
performed incredibly well
on wet and slippery roads.
Would his student be the same?
Ah a race in the rain?
Rain is quite disadvantageous
for FR's rear-wheel drive.
Compared to those driving 4WD
or mid-engine vehicles,
it's at a great disadvantage.
It was hard work to upgrade the suspension
and achieve good results in the preliminaries.
Why now?
That's right.
I need to call Mr. Okuyama
and consult him about how to set up
for rainy conditions.
If it rains, what will
tomorrow's race be like?
Will I have to be drenched
for a mini-concert and hold up signs?
I hate that.
Hello to all 30,120,000
MFG racing fans worldwide.
I'm Yoji Tanaka, the broadcaster.
The rain in June gently pats
the surface of Lake Ashinoko.
MFG Round 2 Lake Ashinoko G
is going to be a showdown in the rain.
Today's guest commentator
is Ryuji Ikeda who is running
ZERO. ACADEMY.
Hello.
Mr. Ikeda is a local councilor in Odawara
and is also devoted to promoting car racing sport
for the healthy development of young people.
Sometimes, he even dons a monk's robe
to tend to his local temple as the abbot.
You could say he's a superman
with three roles.
Mr. Ikeda, thank you for
being with us today.
Thank you, please tolerate me.
Okay.
Damper settings are complete.
The rain has stopped below the mountain.
But on the mountain,
it's still pouring non-stop.
That is commonplace in Hakone.
Weather on the mountain and below
is often quite different.
Mr. Ogata, you're acting strangely.
Why do you look so serious?
Why?
What could be more troubling than rain?
I have a stomachache
because of the stress.
Only a madman would race
on wet and slippery roads.
If possible, I wish they
would cancel the race.
All staff in the race
share the same sentiment.
Especially for your car
with a front engine and rear-wheel drive.
It becomes very difficult
to control on wet roads.
Mr. Ogata, the rain is fair.
To all 15 cars, it's the same.
I don't particularly dislike it.
In fact, I should say
this rain is my friend.
After finishing the mini-concert in the rain,
the angels all rush into the tents.
They sang despite being completely soaked.
Their expressions that were different from usual
have left a deep impression.
Today's mini-concert may become
an everlasting memory for the fans.
If we catch a cold, we could apply
for workers' compensation, right?
Oh, after finishing their meeting,
the racers jog towards their cars.
Senior Aiba, good luck.
Thanks, you too.
This is Ogata.
Is the radio clear?
Clear.
I've put a dry towel
on the passenger seat.
Remember to thoroughly
dry the soles of your shoes.
If the soles are wet,
the pedals will feel different.
Over.
Roger.
Less than 5 minutes
to the scheduled start of the race.
I would like to ask Mr. Ikeda something.
What kind of mindset do the racers have
when facing a race in the rain?
In one word, it's endurance.
On a rainy track, the contact between the tires
and the roads changes constantly.
While probing the limits of tire grip,
you also have to engage in a psychological battle
with your competitors.
The spray from the car ahead
can limit visibility.
Moreover, the car will keep
working against the racer.
With all these negative factors,
it's essential to maintain calm.
Excessive aggressive actions do
not necessarily lead to good results.
I see.
It seems this will be a race
that tests the racer's mental strength.
Exactly.
These 15 racers waiting
for the start in their seats
must confront a kind of pressure that is
completely different from the usual races.
The angels have already lined up.
One minute countdown.
The Porsche No. 12 in pole position slowly
drives out of the gate under the lead of drones.
Car No. 4, Sawatari.
Car No. 1, Ishigami.
Next is car No. 2, Akaba.
Car No. 13, Maezono.
Car No. 3, Oishi.
Car No. 8, Taylor.
Car No. 5, Sakamoto.
Car No.7, Ohtani.
Car No. 86, Katagiri.
Good luck, Kanata.
All I can do is to pray to God.
By the way,
when Kanata gets serious,
he's handsome enough to make time stop.
He never shows
that kind of expression at home.
The last car, No. 23,
is now passing through the gate.
All drones light up blue signals!
(MF GHOST 2nd Season)
(MF GHOST 2nd Season)
The neat line-up was suddenly disrupted!
The bursts of spray
made it difficult to see.
The three 4WD vehicles with strong grip
start to accelerate forward right away.
Car No. 3, Oishi,
overtakes car No.13, Maezono.
Car No. 5, Sakamoto,
overtakes car No. 8, Taylor.
Car No. 9 in the back, Aiba,
rushes in front of car No. 18, Kitahara.
In the rules designed by Ryo Takahashi,
those unfavorable mechanisms
are said to be overly harsh
for 4WD vehicles on dry roads.
But once it's wet and slippery,
this kind of grip will have an advantage.
I will make the most of this.
4WD comes into its own
in situations like this.
LAKE ASHINOKO SKYLINE
Rankings have changed.
Moe, Mami, please.
Eh? Already?
Isn't the race just getting started?
We'll hold umbrellas for you,
so you won't get wet.
Wait a moment.
My bottom isn't ready yet.
Beckenbauer is in the lead!
And car No. 4, Sawatari,
is following closely behind.
Aiming for the finish line,
that is 75.9 kilometers away in a total of 3 laps,
15 jets fiercely splash water
as they race forward.
It's better when it rains.
No matter how much horsepower
you have, it's of no use.
It's like dropping your weapons
and fighting with bare fists.
I'll make it clear to you
who is truly the fastest one.
Don't underestimate people, Sawatari.
I have absolute confidence
in handling slippery roads.
I have no reason
to lose to a Japanese racer.
Although the sprint at the start
isn't as good as that of a 4WD Huracan,
once speed picks up,
my car is second to none.
In front of me is a Lamborghini,
and further ahead a Ferrari.
I am in a position to compete
with the best Italian car manufacturers.
I will show you the strength of Honda.
I would like to ask you, Mr. Ikeda,
what changes will occur on the road
in this death zone due to the rain?
I think the situation will
become extremely bad.
Although the rain can prevent
the volcanic ash from scattering,
it will turn the accumulated ash on the roadside
into mud and cause it to flow outward.
This will make the road surface
slippery beyond control.
Especially in this first lap,
one must be very careful
when entering the death zone.
COURSE INFORMATION, ASHINOKO GT SECTOR 1,
DEATH AREA, ROAD CONDITION: SLIPPERY
The cars that are splashing water
are heading towards Lake Ashinoko Skyline.
The leading cars have already
entered the Slippy Trap.
Car No. 3 experiences understeer
and it sways significantly.
Car No. 13 takes
the opportunity to overtake.
That was dangerous.
I already took the corner very cautiously.
I didn't expect the road
to be this slippery.
Your steering control skills
need improvement, Oishi.
4WD has absolutely no advantages
when cornering.
That drifting he used
in the preliminaries.
He's not using it here?
Does that mean he can reach this speed
with his usual racing method?
So young and yet so multi-talented.
Even I find it a bit of a strain
to take turns with this car.
Let me take a good look
at your style, super-rookie.
So slippery.
Super slippery!
Oh no
I'm so happy.
I love this situation.
Despite the rain-soaked death zone
giving the racers a hard time,
as the 15 people that are
carefully selected,
they continue to press
the throttle fearlessly.
Car No. 12 and 4 are gradually
pulling away from the cars behind.
Car No. 1 can't keep up.
The Godly Fifteen's formation
is stretching out,
splitting into several groups.
Mr. Ikeda, seeing the current situation,
is there anything that concerns you?
Well
Personally, I'm paying attention to
the car No. 86 in the middle group.
After entering the death zone,
it's the only car that's still going forward steadily.
It's eerily steady.
Speaking of Kanata Katagiri,
during the preliminaries,
he used the drift favored by rally racers
and set a new record
for the death zone segment.
But now, he shows extreme composure
in his driving skills like a different person.
That's right.
Although the race has just started,
his calm demeanor
sends shivers down my spine.
The leading group has passed
the Kojiri Pass Junction.
From here, the downhill slope of the track
will start to increase.
They cannot be the slightest bit careless.
On the rainy downhill sections,
a small mistake can be fatal.
I've finally entered the race with my GTR.
But the heavy rain has thwarted my plans.
The car's traction control system
and the vehicle stability system keep intervening.
I didn't expect to be followed
so closely by a 2.0-liter NA car.
However, the road conditions are so poor,
no matter how good you are at downhill,
it's physically impossible
to increase the cornering speed.
If I cut inside when cornering,
and stick close to the inside of the curve,
you can only follow behind
helplessly, right?
Hey, what are you doing?
Trying to overtake me from the outside?
Don't underestimate me!
No grip!
On such a wet and slippery road,
what on earth do you have to do
to have such a speed?
It's unbelievable.

in his driving skills like a different person.
That's right.
Although the race has just started,
his calm demeanor
sends shivers down my spine.
The leading group has passed
the Kojiri Pass Junction.
From here, the downhill slope of the track
will start to increase.
They cannot be the slightest bit careless.
On the rainy downhill sections,
a small mistake can be fatal.
I've finally entered the race with my GTR.
But the heavy rain has thwarted my plans.
The car's traction control system
and the vehicle stability system keep intervening.
I didn't expect to be followed
so closely by a 2.0-liter NA car.
However, the road conditions are so poor,
no matter how good you are at downhill,
it's physically impossible
to increase the cornering speed.
If I cut inside when cornering,
and stick close to the inside of the curve,
you can only follow behind
helplessly, right?
Hey, what are you doing?
Trying to overtake me from the outside?
Don't underestimate me!
No grip!
On such a wet and slippery road,
what on earth do you have to do
to have such a speed?
It's unbelievable.
Next episode, Turn 15,
