Mission Impossible (1966) s02e02 Episode Script
Trek
Good afternoon, Mr.
Phelps.
Recently, in a desperate attempt to save its economy, the government of the tiny democracy of Santales sold its priceless collection of Incan gold artefacts.
Before the treasure could be delivered, it was hijacked by this man, Jack Cole.
Cole's accomplices were all killed.
He was captured and is being held at the provincial prison, where a Colonel Cardoza is trying to persuade him to reveal where the treasure is hidden.
We know Cardoza to be a traitor, who intends to take the treasure for himself and flee, bankrupting the country.
Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to recover the treasure and expose Cardoza.
As always, should you or any member of your IM Force be caught or killed, the secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions.
This tape will self-destruct in five seconds.
Good luck, Jim.
- Bob, is my friend almost finished? - Almost.
When he is, he should practically be able to do your act.
Very funny.
That's the lot, Jim.
Good.
Very good, Barney.
Now, how fast can you age it 700 years? Only 700? Overnight.
How about the helicopter? Checked out and ready.
All right.
Cardoza has been in contact with a man in London.
His name is Haas.
He's going to dispose of the treasure for Cardoza.
Sort of a high-class fence? Now, Haas is sending a man named Ernest Keefer to meet with Cardoza.
In case Cole hasn't already talked, Keefer has a plan to find the treasure.
- I see.
Keefer won't get there.
- That's right.
Do you know what Keefer's plan is, Jim? No, but then, neither does Cardoza.
So we'll just have to let him in on our plan.
All of it? Most of it.
I like that.
Now, where is the treasure? Mr.
Cole, the sun is not even at its strongest.
I'd advise you to cooperate.
Then, there can be cool shade, and even sleep.
Do you hear me, Mr.
Cole? Do you hear me? Colonel.
- General Diaz.
- Here? Ask him to wait in my office.
Colonel.
I see you are hard at work, Cardoza.
You wanted information.
And if you had gotten it, I wonder how soon I would have been informed.
General, you are accusing me of treason.
I have my own opinions about you, Cardoza.
Unfortunately, my superiors do not know you as I do.
Now, untie the man.
I want him alive, not dead.
Now, I order you to transfer the prisoner to my custody.
I suppose you will take him to the capitol, and there you will offer him his freedom in exchange for information.
That is not your affair.
Just deliver the prisoner.
Man is ill.
He's not fit to travel.
This is an order, Cardoza.
The man is my responsibility.
If he dies on the trip, I will have to answer for it.
I want the order in writing, from the capitol.
Cinnamon, close your eyes.
Bob, how's she look? - She's a living doll.
- Hey, good luck.
Hey! All right.
What is your name? Ernest Keefer.
Leave us.
Ernest Keefer.
- Ernest Keefer? - Cardoza, you jackass.
Get Cole out of that sunlight before he goes blind.
Mr.
Cole is inside.
General Diaz has seen to that.
Mr.
Keefer, Cole is a hard man.
How would you suggest we get him to talk? If he hasn't by now, I suggest you can't.
How much time have you got? Not very much.
General Diaz is taking him to the capitol in the morning.
Then he has to escape today.
Escape? Yes, and with his eyesight if he's gonna lead us to the treasure.
We'll use your car to get to the shack, here.
How do we move the treasure from its hiding place? The helicopter.
Clever.
It might work.
Our escape can't possibly fail.
Not with you as a hostage.
Get your lousy hands off of me! You won't be here long.
We have a special way of That's enough.
That's enough.
You will be sorry you were born.
How is your eyes, Mr.
Cole? Shall we have a little talk, huh? Got a cigarette? I haven't had one in three weeks.
Pity you didn't kill him.
They've been working on me ever since they brought me into this joint, and they got no right.
Right? What's your beef? I had to go after some Indian in the cantina.
Mashed him with a bottle.
- Kill him? - I don't know, I was stoned.
The big buck tried to move in on my señorita, so I cooled him.
You'll hang.
What brought you to this hole of a town? I was prospecting in the desert.
I thought it was time to blow off a little steam.
What are you in here for? Name is Cole.
Jack Cole.
Keefer.
The señorita - Nice and plump? - Not plump enough to hang for.
They're coming for you in 15 minutes, Mr.
Cole.
But first, I want you to think about what's going to happen.
There's a room in this prison that you have never seen before.
- No one has ever come out of - Keys.
Your keys or I'll kill you.
- Okay, now, get mine.
- Who needs you? - They're gonna hang me.
- I'll say a prayer for you.
You do that for yourself.
Open it.
Sure.
Easy, colonel.
Go this way.
All right.
Now move.
Tell them to drop their rifles.
They will kill me.
Throw down your guns.
- Against the wall, go on.
- Here, open up.
Which car is yours? Which one? The blue one.
Don't shoot.
Don't shoot! Now, get in the back seat and keep him covered.
I'll drive.
Open the gate or he's dead.
Hurry! All right, raise the gun.
Can't we stop for some water? - There are canteens in the back.
- They're not for you.
Let's have some water.
There are canteens in the trunk.
It's all over.
We've got to go back.
We'll make it, colonel.
Ten million dollars.
Not for him.
We need the water for us.
Go on, Cole.
I know how to live in this desert.
Now, you pull that trigger and both of you can cook out here.
Lower the net.
Haul it up an inch or two.
Okay, you ready for Indian Joe? Right.
Okay, here he comes.
Sergeant.
- We'll need horses, get them.
- Yes, sir.
And bring a map.
There's our ticket to the border.
Come on.
- Don't make any trouble, you'll be fine.
- What do you want? Your horses.
Hey, hey, hey, not too much of that, now.
- Just a little more, please.
- No.
Sure, Cardoza, all you want.
You can lick it out of the sand from now on, see? Let's take a look.
Is something the matter? Well, come on.
Get down.
Quiet.
- She dead? - No.
Water.
Easy.
Not too much now.
Sit.
Easy.
You're wasting water.
She's had it.
Better? General, two men tried to kill me, took my horses.
What did these men look like? Two Americanos.
Big man, an officer in a uniform like yours.
A colonel.
Some water for this man.
The officer was a prisoner of the Americanos, was he not? The officer was a prisoner of the Americanos, was he not? No.
No, they seemed simpatico, like friends.
It was he who gave them the orders.
Amigo.
Show me where.
Where'd you get this? - My husband - Where'd he get it? My husband, we're archaeologists.
We found artefacts, gold, Incan gold.
- Your treasure, Cole, they have it! - Shut up! My husband My husband needs help.
Where is your husband? He's out there, where we found that.
His leg is broken.
He needs help.
I tried to get help.
Come on, Cole, let's Drop it.
This is as far as you two go.
Hey, hey, hey, take it easy, Cole.
You know, you don't look so good.
Oh, I feel fine.
All right, what about your treasure? - Ten million dollars worth.
- Ten Oh, and you want it all for yourself? - Yeah.
- But you need help.
Ten million dollars worth of that kind of stuff is kind of hard to lug around.
What about her husband? He's still there, probably got a gun.
Can you handle him? I can help you, Cole.
A stake is all I want.
A few thousand dollars so I can get started again somewhere.
I'll help you.
What about him? We can afford to wait with him.
He's good insurance in case they catch up with us.
Don't try anything.
Don't worry.
So you're going to see the treasure, Cardoza.
You'll see it and you'll touch it.
You'll pack it across the border on your back like a burro, and then I'll kill you.
I'm sorry, ma'am.
Cole.
She's gonna be dead of thirst in an hour, another woman who got lost in the desert.
If you put a bullet in her head, they're gonna know we've been this way.
Yeah.
Let's go.
We'll need the burro.
There, that's where they took my horses.
Give me that gun.
The other.
Go ahead of me.
He's blind.
The pig is blind! Cardoza! Cardoza! If he can't see, he can't lead us.
If you'll keep your head, we've got a chance.
I want him, Keefer.
Bring him to me.
I want him.
The trail was blown over, but I have picked it up.
- Good.
- Coming from those hills, my general.
Is he dead? Yes, he's dead.
Show me.
Here.
Now, I dropped my rifle.
Get it.
It's here on the ground.
I gotta pick it up.
Cole, the treasure.
Forget it.
My friend, you're finished.
You're blind! You need me.
You're gonna circle around out here until you die? I've been waiting for this and I figured what you were gonna say next.
Half.
Half, and you'll lead me out of the desert.
- That's right.
- Sure you will.
And I'll live as long as it takes me to get you to the treasure.
Well, you don't have any choice.
Now, what are you gonna do? Okay.
We go this way.
You tell me what you see and I'll tell you where to go.
This strap goes slack, you're dead.
We should be nearly there.
Look for an opening protected by a needle rock.
There's a gorge and a steep cliff just past it.
- Are we there? - I think so.
- Is the rock there? - Yeah.
There's a narrow entrance behind it.
That's it.
Keep an eye out for the woman's husband.
Don't worry.
Nobody here.
Look against the walls.
Dig away the dirt.
- I've got one.
- We made it.
Over here.
Open it.
There's another one behind me, opposite the entrance.
You found it.
Cardoza.
Keefer, it was a trick! Yes, it was a trick! Cardoza, where are you? From the beginning, it was a trick.
Cardoza.
