Hi, everyone, I'm Ellen Fox, and welcome to "Wizard Wars.
" Now let's meet our judges, Penn and Teller Christen Gerhart, and Jason Latimer.
Tonight's show features two teams of challengers that have been performing together for years, starting with a husband and wife team who've performed in 70 countries.
One has a membership to the exclusive Houdini Society and the other is a former Miss Las Vegas.
See if you can figure out who's who.
Kyle Knight and Mistie.
Normally we perform big illusion shows all over the world, but "Wizard Wars" is a chance for us to be creative.
It's gonna give us a chance to really step outside of our comfort zone and push us and see how well we can work together under pressure as performers and as a husband and wife.
These comedy magicians met at Juilliard and first performed at New York's legendary Friars Club.
They've gone on to play Lincoln Center, pretty much the whole Vegas strip, oh, and also for Michael Jackson.
It's Jarrett and Raja.
The magic and the music that we create usually takes months, or sometimes years to do, but we're coming on this show now and we know we're gonna have no time.
It's gonna be a real challenge.
Now here are the rules for the Challenger Round.
Each team will be given three of the same everyday objects to be used at least once in an original routine a cape, a set of luggage, and a bunny rabbit.
Aw! You will be judged on your creativity, deception, and showmanship.
Kyle and Mistie are up first, and it'll be interesting to see if these married magicians were able to agree on a plan or on anything.
Let's take a look.
You could produce the bunny out of the luggage, but that's kind of an obvious thing.
Let's put you in the luggage.
Think you can fit? - You want me to get in? - Try it, see if you can fit.
This may not work.
You might actually fit.
This may change the way we travel from now on.
Not a chance.
- We've got rope.
- Oh, wow.
This has given me a really good idea.
The rope means something can be hanging.
That gives us a whole bunch more options.
Chain could be an escape of some kind.
- We've got a lot of chains here.
- I like the escape idea.
- Handcuffs? - Those are real.
Those are legit.
How is the bunny gonna be involved in the escape with the luggage? You are in luck.
We have carrots.
You like some of the carrot? Going for it right away.
This is gonna work.
We have a good idea.
It's important to note there are no camera tricks on "Wizard Wars.
" Kyle and Mistie, take it away.
I'm Kyle Knight and this is my wife Mistie.
Now with any great escape, there's three basic elements you need.
The challenge, the suspense, and the danger.
For the challenge tonight, we're gonna be using this.
A cape.
We're gonna be using this cape, and in addition to that, these police regulation handcuffs.
I want this guy right here could you check out the handcuffs? Don't put 'em on, but just hold on to those.
One of us will be locked inside those handcuffs with this cape draped right over our hands, preventing our eyes from being able to see what we're doing, making it even more difficult.
Which brings us to the element of suspense.
Can you feel it building? A bunny rabbit.
That's cute, but I'm pretty sure that's not what they had in mind.
All right, we'll try something different then.
Go in a different direction.
Can you hold onto that right there? I'll just take this lift this up a little higher just like that.
This should be good.
A bunny rabbit.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is Spike.
Spike's gonna help us create the suspense.
As you can see, he's gonna be inside that box.
There's a rope going down through it and attached to that rope is a carrot.
In a moment, the carrot is going to be lowered down into the box and Spike will devour the carrot and anything else that gets in his way, including that rope.
Which brings us to the danger.
A seven-piece luggage set.
That luggage contains 634 pounds of my wardrobe.
Now all of that weight is being held in place only by that rope, so if Spike as so much chews into it just a little, the threads will break, sending everything crashing down to the ground.
Underneath that will be this box.
One of us will be locked inside this box hoping that the other one successfully escapes from the handcuffs before Spike ever chews into the rope.
Yes, and now it's time for the girl to get into the box.
- That's usually how it's done.
- Yeah, I don't think so.
I think you know better than that, and you know what I say, "Happy wife, happy life.
" I think I'll get in the box today.
- See? All right.
Good idea.
- Here we go.
Don't worry, babe, I got this.
You'll be out of here before you know it.
Thank you.

- Just like that.

Ow! This key will stay right here in full view the whole time.
All right, now that we've got him locked in the box, it's time for me to get locked into the handcuffs.
If you would, please lock me in.
Make sure they're in there real tight.
Don't let me slip out in any way.
Go ahead.

- Is that fair? There's no way I can sneak out? - Nope.
You guys can all see that? All right, time to start the timer.
All right, Spike, let's do this.

Looks like he's already going.
Got it! Yeah! That was too close, Mistie.

Christen? That was fantastic.
You can tell you guys have been doing this for a very long time.
You guys do it well.

" That was great.
I thought that was fabulous.
I love that you use the cape as cover.
We have the box off the ground.
We can see under the box.
Beautiful, beautiful proof, and I thought that was really spectacular.
The bunny cam, so funny.
Coming out in the cape at the end was wonderful.
It was perfect pacing, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

That was great, because if you look at the creativity of creating effects on "Wizard Wars," it's easy to create an effect, an effect, an effect.
It's really difficult to try to tie them all into one.
And you guys did it, and you did it beautifully.
I just really applaud you guys - on tying all those together.
- Thank you.
The idea of danger in magic is very complicated because you don't want to have something we're really frightened about.
You want to get your heart racing, but you also need an arbitrary quality that takes away the real horror.
And here we had a completely artistic form of fantasy danger, which is I think magic at its best.
The crash at the end, the way the box fell apart and the sound that made is really important and often forgot.
And doing a trick where a person onstage vanishes and ends up in the back of the audience is a cliché in magic, and to still get a surprise out of it and really make people go, "Whoa," is really something.
They're doing very hard things.
We just loved it.
We'll get to see what comedy magic duo Jarrett and Raja can do with the same three objects when we come back.

If you put it into your fist and you give it a squeeze, you can actually make the hanky change colors.
A little bit in.
A little bit out until it goes all the way.

You look evilish, and if you're evil, maybe you do something to the rabbit.
I mean, in a nice way.
So I get the watch from the audience.
If we had a catapult thing.
If we put the rabbit onto this.
Onto the catapult? And then we shoot the rabbit - Into the hat.
- No.
- Luggage.
- Maybe.
- You know what this is looking like? - What? It's a cannon.
That's what we're gonna use.
Skip, you're gonna love this.
You're gonna be the star.
Jarrett and Raja, you've got your bunny.
You should be all set, so go for it.
Hi, everyone, we have our bags packed and we're going on a trip.
I'm Jarrett and he's Apparently, little Raj Riding Hood.
As I was saying.
I'm Jarrett.
He's Raja.
"Magician, musician.
" I have something I want to show everybody.
Great.

Why are you unpacking already? We're going on a trip.

This is really cool.

- It's Skip.
Raja, can you play some travel music? Yes, where are we going? Okay.
We're gonna put Skip in his little carrying cage here.
- Where he's safe? - It's nice, very safe.
Now we have a few items that we're gonna take on our trip.
We have a piano.
We have a piece of luggage with a target on it.
It makes it easy to see.
And a cannon.
TSA is gonna love this.
And we have Skip.
Skip, cannon.
No, I would never do that.
- Really? - Trust me.
But to help with the jetlag, I do need a watch from the audience.
So, Raja, would you take Skip and put him in some travel bags? - Get ready for the trip.
- Absolutely.
I'm gonna come down here.
I want to ask some of the ladies to just raise your hands who have a watch up into the air, okay? High in the air so everyone can see them.
That's good.
Even higher.
Higher up in the air.
This is great.
Good.
So we have a few watches over here randomly.
Good.
So, Teller, could you point to one of the watches on these ladies randomly? Anyone you want.
Over here? Okay.
Come right over here.
Okay, can I take the watch? - Yeah.
- Okay, great.
Great.
- What's your name? - I'm Tiffany.
Tiffany.
A very nice watch, Tiffany.
So what we're gonna do here is I'm gonna attempt to take Tiffany's watch and place it into that luggage using this cannon, okay? So here we go.
Ready? Into the cannon.
Light the fuse.
Here we go.
Wait, where's the rabbit? Raja, what are you doing? What did you do? Are you crazy? I didn't think you'd actually fire the cannon.
Get over here.
I can't believe you actually did that.
You put the rabbit into the cannon? But, Jarrett Why would you do that? Come here.
Oh.
It's Skip and the watch.
The watch.
All right, well, let's find out what the judges thought of your performance.
Christen? It's a little tough to see the cutest little bunny put into a cannon.
But I knew you weren't going to harm the rabbit in any way.
It was nice to have it in the Russian doll suitcase situation.
The suitcase in a suitcase in a suitcase and then have the watch tied to the rabbit was a very nice reveal at the end.
I think you guys worked really well together.
Even when you were picking the watch, and that could have been some dead space, there wasn't any.
I thought it was really fun.
It was great to see.
- Thank you.
- Thanks.
Because the watch wasn't on the rabbit to begin with, it wasn't really a prover that it was the same rabbit in play.
So it was kind of a combination of the watch attaching to the rabbit and it moving up there, which conceptually bothered me a little bit, but I love the way you guys work together and I also love when magicians do other stuff.
- So the music was great.
- Thank you.
Uh, deception.
I liked the transposition of the watch.
And I agree with Penn that if you wanted to make it a proof, it should have been tied to the rabbit from the beginning, so that when it's tied to the rabbit at the end, it's a proof it's the rabbit.
Creativity-wise, I personally think the cape was underutilized, but I also do like the fact that they were putting, as funny as it sounds, they were putting a rabbit in a cannon, but the cannon was so fake, it kind of made it feel okay, 'cause that's not really a cannon.
- Right.
- I liked the thought process behind that.

" Now lets find out which team wins and will face our incredible Wizards in the Wizard War for a chance to win $10,000.
Penn and Teller, what did the judges decide? Kyle and Mistie have the advantage of being a husband and wife couple.
They also did the great appearance in the back.
- Oh! - That was too close, Mistie.
But Jarrett and Raja used the luggage much better.
But all things considered, and all of it hanging together and telling one story, it goes to Kyle and Mistie.
All right, Kyle and Mistie, congratulations.
You will now face two Wizards.
But before we talk Wizards, let's talk rules.
Each team must use the same four items associated with the most magical meal of the day, breakfast! And you must use each of these items at least once in your routine.
The objects are a toaster, a blender, eggs, and a table set for two.
Tonight's wizards will be Justin and Shimshi.
We have a workshop and a magic shop upstairs which has everything you need to turn these breakfast-themed items into world-class magic.
- So get cooking.
- All right.
While the teams are working on their routines, get ready to be delighted down here as the legendary Penn and Teller are prepared to entertain us.
Can you get the cards? Those are gonna go around here.
This trick you can only do if you've been working together almost 40 years.
Spread 'em out there so that they can see that they're all mixed up.
What's your name here, ma'am? Mariella? Mariella, just cut a bunch of cards out there.
Fewer than half and put them right in Teller's hand here.
Here's the thing that's amazing.
You cut those off yourself, right? Now Teller is able to tell just by holding the cards in his hand that there are 19 cards there.
Now how could he know that? Seems impossible.
Count 'em, Teller.
Watch this.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19.
Now that's amazing.
I still have not figured out even after 40 years how he knows that.
But the more amazing thing is he knows that that top card is the 10 of hearts.
Now how can he possibly know that that card is the 10 of hearts? That seems completely impossible.
That's only one stage of it, because I can take the cards he's not even gonna touch 'em.
I can take the cards here.
We'll give 'em a little bit of a shuffle here.
Now Teller's gonna go sit down there.
And the two people on either side of him, would you just take your hands and put them right over Teller's eyes? Make sure he is completely blindfolded.
- Ma'am, what's your name? - Diana.
Diana, come over here to the edge of the table here.
Diana, try to cut off any number there except 19.
Either cut it a little deeper than 19 or a little more shallow.
Put those right on my hand.
Teller's not even touching them.
In my hands, he can tell with me holding these, he can tell.
How can he tell? He knows that there are 27 cards there.
Count 'em aloud.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27.
Now that seems impossible.
Impossible.
Wait a minute.
Wait a minute.
The thing that really blows my mind is he knows what that card is.
He hasn't touched them.
He's way over there.
He's blindfolded.
What have you written there? He's written the nine of hearts.
Turn over that top card.
Nine of hearts right there.
That's 40 years it takes to do that trick.
Amazing! The legendary Penn and Teller.
Well, the challengers are hard at work turning their breakfast time props to eye-opening magic.
Let's see how they're doing.
You know a thing I've always wanted to try - is the old tablecloth thing.
- Can you do that? And the spoon and fork are still on the table! - All right! - Awesome, look at that.
- That's not gonna work.
- That's not gonna happen.
- It was fun, though.
- Yeah, it was.
Let's go raid the magic shop.
We got a rose.
Look at that.
Rose on the table.
- We could do some stuff with the rose for sure.
- On the table, yeah.
Kind of class up our establishment.
- The Magic Cafe.
- The Magic Cafe, exactly.
You could do lots of sleight of hand with the eggs.
- Make the eggs vanish and that type of stuff.
- Mm-hmm.
- You could juggle.
- I can juggle the eggs.
Try it.
What if you juggled to me? You're gonna reach in and grab one out of the air.
So here we go.
Not yet.
Not yet.
And take the top one.
- Go ahead and get the top one.
- I can't reach it.
Oh! That's probably not good to do in front of Penn and Teller, to drop eggs.
Yeah.
What if you put it in one thing? If you put toast in or put something in, push it down, and then something else pops out of the toaster.
The way we can tie this together so that it feels complete - is if we do it in the Magic Cafe theme.
- Right.
We're presenting it as though I'm the waitress and you're the in-house entertainer.
What if the egg was the key? What if the egg was tying everything together? So I like that, but I know we're running out of time.

Kyle and Mistie, there's $10,000 with your names on it if you can out-conjure the Wizards using the same four everyday objects.
They are a toaster, a blender, eggs, and a table set for two, which is convenient since the challengers are already partners.
Kyle and Mistie, ditch the baggage and take it away.
As you know, we are illusionists.
But you might be surprised to know that Kyle got his start in magic in restaurants doing close-up magic, performing sleight of hand, going table to table for the guests.
Meanwhile, I was working as a waitress.
I thought why not put the uniform back on, combine our skills and open up the Magic Cafe.
Whew.
Now, even though neither one of us have any cooking experience, we thought how hard could it really be? So we're opening up a restaurant.
In fact, I need to borrow something from actually, it would be better if we borrow something from one of the judges.
I see, Jason, you have a ring on your finger.
Could you pass that ring down to the young lady over here? We'll just make a chain right here and keep it safe, keep it honest, all right? That way you know it's completely fair and you'll recognize it.
I don't want to touch his ring here, but would you make you way up on stage? - What is your name, ma'am? - Lindsay.

We're gonna take his ring and place it inside the blender just like this.
We're gonna blend it up one more time.
- Magical French toast.
- We can hear it.
I can hear it there, Jason.
Yeah.
Miracles happen at the cafe.

I think we're doing this all wrong.

- Are you thinking what I'm thinking? - Yes, it's our first night.

It's actually working its magic, all of that goopy liquid.
- It's gotta be getting ready.

This is the Magic Cafe.
This isn't strange at all.
This just isn't any toaster.
It's a psychic toaster.
Sometimes it delivers us messages.
I think there's one coming through right now.
"Egg" burned into the toast.
Some kind of code here.
I thought we used all the eggs, Mistie.
- There is still one egg left.
- One egg left.
Hand it to Lindsay.
I don't want to touch that egg right there.
If you'd take that egg out very slowly, show it to the audience right there.
Show everybody it is indeed a normal egg.
Place it in the palm of your hand if you wouldn't mind.
Place your other hand on top.
You have to trust me for this next part here.
I'm gonna have you slowly crush that egg.
Slowly crush it.
There's something inside there.
It is? I bet you thought that was gonna be the ring, didn't you? No, that would be too easy.
Unfold that little piece of paper there.
"Try the egg behind the judges.
" Unbelievable.
We have a waitress right in the back of the room right there.
Jason, would you help us out? Hold it up so the cameras and everybody can see that egg inside there.
Do you have a pen on your desk right there? Yeah, break it, break it.
Yes, look inside there.
Inside that egg right there is something.
I hope it looks familiar.
Jason, is that your ring? The suspense.

That was egg-cellent.
Somebody had to say it.

First of all, this was great.
It blew me away 'cause it looked so clean and it's right there.
One of the funny things I actually liked was the use of the blender.
As funny as that sounds, is I like the idea of using the blender as cover.
Toaster a little under used.
It wasn't very deceptive, but it flowed within the storyline that you created.
Thank you very much for that show.
Now I started out as a juggler and a fire-eater, so I love you.
We don't get enough juggling and fire-eating, and you did that.
And you certainly showed skills.
The tablecloth pull, everybody always wants to see.
Quick change is really popular.
And then you put in the middle of it one, actually more, but one really stunningly fabulous magic trick.
The magic in the hands of spectators.
Your spectator getting to crush the egg the first time.
Jason, getting to open up and see his own ring is so powerful and the egg was just beautiful.
It was something that I didn't expect to really appear in this.
We see you put the egg in the glass in the beginning, and I kind of forget about it, and then just to have it reappear here.
It was the place I didn't expect to see it and it was wonderful.
I really enjoyed it.

" Our Wizards have already built their routine, so let's take a peek at what they cooked up for this breakfast-themed challenge.
I got an idea for the eggs.
That was your egg.
That was your egg that you cracked already.
Okay.
How about those? Look at that.
Oh! Pretty close.
It's a nice try.
Look at how many I didn't.
Wait, wait, wait, I need some of those, too.
What are you doing? What if we used a jar and put the egg inside the jar and this is an airtight container and then we just kind of started making it move? Float inside.
- That's cool.
- Yeah? Think it might be too small? We have to work in a table.
I know, but what if we make something bigger levitate? I got an idea.
Let me sketch it out.
Center stage is the table set for two.
Okay.
And big and think on the table.
- Get on it.
- All right.
Will that hold you or do we need to make thicker legs for that? If we want to do something, we might have to get thicker legs for this.

The diversity of the effects that you did with the floating toaster.
That looked great.
And then to go for a levitation of that size, Shimshi, wow.

We see so much on this show of objects in impossible locations and vanishings, transformations, and appearances.
And seeing a suspension was really nice.
That's one of the big stage things you don't see often.
We love the fact they set it up with a toaster.
The same thing there which gives us a chance to really envision what we're gonna see.
We don't feel exactly like they grooved together like a team completely, but I'm willing to forgive that because the suspension looked so great.

Get another handkerchief and you put it into your fist.
Give a squeeze and you can make it look like it changes color.

Hi, everyone, I'm Ellen Fox, and welcome to "Wizard Wars.
" Now let's meet our judges, Penn and Teller Christen Gerhart, and Jason Latimer.
Tonight's show features two teams of challengers that have been performing together for years, starting with a husband and wife team who've performed in 70 countries.
One has a membership to the exclusive Houdini Society and the other is a former Miss Las Vegas.
See if you can figure out who's who.
Kyle Knight and Mistie.
Normally we perform big illusion shows all over the world, but "Wizard Wars" is a chance for us to be creative.
It's gonna give us a chance to really step outside of our comfort zone and push us and see how well we can work together under pressure as performers and as a husband and wife.
These comedy magicians met at Juilliard and first performed at New York's legendary Friars Club.
They've gone on to play Lincoln Center, pretty much the whole Vegas strip, oh, and also for Michael Jackson.
It's Jarrett and Raja.
The magic and the music that we create usually takes months, or sometimes years to do, but we're coming on this show now and we know we're gonna have no time.
It's gonna be a real challenge.
Now here are the rules for the Challenger Round.
Each team will be given three of the same everyday objects to be used at least once in an original routine a cape, a set of luggage, and a bunny rabbit.
Aw! You will be judged on your creativity, deception, and showmanship.
Kyle and Mistie are up first, and it'll be interesting to see if these married magicians were able to agree on a plan or on anything.
Let's take a look.
You could produce the bunny out of the luggage, but that's kind of an obvious thing.
Let's put you in the luggage.
Think you can fit? - You want me to get in? - Try it, see if you can fit.
This may not work.
You might actually fit.
This may change the way we travel from now on.
Not a chance.
- We've got rope.
- Oh, wow.
This has given me a really good idea.
The rope means something can be hanging.
That gives us a whole bunch more options.
Chain could be an escape of some kind.
- We've got a lot of chains here.
- I like the escape idea.
- Handcuffs? - Those are real.
Those are legit.
How is the bunny gonna be involved in the escape with the luggage? You are in luck.
We have carrots.
You like some of the carrot? Going for it right away.
This is gonna work.
We have a good idea.
It's important to note there are no camera tricks on "Wizard Wars.
" Kyle and Mistie, take it away.
I'm Kyle Knight and this is my wife Mistie.
Now with any great escape, there's three basic elements you need.
The challenge, the suspense, and the danger.
For the challenge tonight, we're gonna be using this.
A cape.
We're gonna be using this cape, and in addition to that, these police regulation handcuffs.
I want this guy right here could you check out the handcuffs? Don't put 'em on, but just hold on to those.
One of us will be locked inside those handcuffs with this cape draped right over our hands, preventing our eyes from being able to see what we're doing, making it even more difficult.
Which brings us to the element of suspense.
Can you feel it building? A bunny rabbit.
That's cute, but I'm pretty sure that's not what they had in mind.
All right, we'll try something different then.
Go in a different direction.
Can you hold onto that right there? I'll just take this lift this up a little higher just like that.
This should be good.
A bunny rabbit.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is Spike.
Spike's gonna help us create the suspense.
As you can see, he's gonna be inside that box.
There's a rope going down through it and attached to that rope is a carrot.
In a moment, the carrot is going to be lowered down into the box and Spike will devour the carrot and anything else that gets in his way, including that rope.
Which brings us to the danger.
A seven-piece luggage set.
That luggage contains 634 pounds of my wardrobe.
Now all of that weight is being held in place only by that rope, so if Spike as so much chews into it just a little, the threads will break, sending everything crashing down to the ground.
Underneath that will be this box.
One of us will be locked inside this box hoping that the other one successfully escapes from the handcuffs before Spike ever chews into the rope.
Yes, and now it's time for the girl to get into the box.
- That's usually how it's done.
- Yeah, I don't think so.
I think you know better than that, and you know what I say, "Happy wife, happy life.
" I think I'll get in the box today.
- See? All right.
Good idea.
- Here we go.
Don't worry, babe, I got this.
You'll be out of here before you know it.

That was great, because if you look at the creativity of creating effects on "Wizard Wars," it's easy to create an effect, an effect, an effect.
It's really difficult to try to tie them all into one.
And you guys did it, and you did it beautifully.
I just really applaud you guys - on tying all those together.

The idea of danger in magic is very complicated because you don't want to have something we're really frightened about.
You want to get your heart racing, but you also need an arbitrary quality that takes away the real horror.
And here we had a completely artistic form of fantasy danger, which is I think magic at its best.
The crash at the end, the way the box fell apart and the sound that made is really important and often forgot.
And doing a trick where a person onstage vanishes and ends up in the back of the audience is a cliché in magic, and to still get a surprise out of it and really make people go, "Whoa," is really something.
They're doing very hard things.
We just loved it.
We'll get to see what comedy magic duo Jarrett and Raja can do with the same three objects when we come back.

All right, well, let's find out what the judges thought of your performance.
Christen? It's a little tough to see the cutest little bunny put into a cannon.
But I knew you weren't going to harm the rabbit in any way.
It was nice to have it in the Russian doll suitcase situation.
The suitcase in a suitcase in a suitcase and then have the watch tied to the rabbit was a very nice reveal at the end.
I think you guys worked really well together.
Even when you were picking the watch, and that could have been some dead space, there wasn't any.
I thought it was really fun.
It was great to see.

Because the watch wasn't on the rabbit to begin with, it wasn't really a prover that it was the same rabbit in play.
So it was kind of a combination of the watch attaching to the rabbit and it moving up there, which conceptually bothered me a little bit, but I love the way you guys work together and I also love when magicians do other stuff.
- So the music was great.

Uh, deception.
I liked the transposition of the watch.
And I agree with Penn that if you wanted to make it a proof, it should have been tied to the rabbit from the beginning, so that when it's tied to the rabbit at the end, it's a proof it's the rabbit.
Creativity-wise, I personally think the cape was underutilized, but I also do like the fact that they were putting, as funny as it sounds, they were putting a rabbit in a cannon, but the cannon was so fake, it kind of made it feel okay, 'cause that's not really a cannon.
- Right.
- I liked the thought process behind that.

But before we talk Wizards, let's talk rules.
Each team must use the same four items associated with the most magical meal of the day, breakfast! And you must use each of these items at least once in your routine.
The objects are a toaster, a blender, eggs, and a table set for two.
Tonight's wizards will be Justin and Shimshi.
We have a workshop and a magic shop upstairs which has everything you need to turn these breakfast-themed items into world-class magic.
- So get cooking.
- All right.
While the teams are working on their routines, get ready to be delighted down here as the legendary Penn and Teller are prepared to entertain us.
Can you get the cards? Those are gonna go around here.
This trick you can only do if you've been working together almost 40 years.
Spread 'em out there so that they can see that they're all mixed up.
What's your name here, ma'am? Mariella? Mariella, just cut a bunch of cards out there.
Fewer than half and put them right in Teller's hand here.
Here's the thing that's amazing.
You cut those off yourself, right? Now Teller is able to tell just by holding the cards in his hand that there are 19 cards there.
Now how could he know that? Seems impossible.
Count 'em, Teller.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19.
Now that's amazing.
I still have not figured out even after 40 years how he knows that.
But the more amazing thing is he knows that that top card is the 10 of hearts.
Now how can he possibly know that that card is the 10 of hearts? That seems completely impossible.
That's only one stage of it, because I can take the cards he's not even gonna touch 'em.

We'll give 'em a little bit of a shuffle here.
Now Teller's gonna go sit down there.
And the two people on either side of him, would you just take your hands and put them right over Teller's eyes? Make sure he is completely blindfolded.

It blew me away 'cause it looked so clean and it's right there.
One of the funny things I actually liked was the use of the blender.
As funny as that sounds, is I like the idea of using the blender as cover.
Toaster a little under used.
It wasn't very deceptive, but it flowed within the storyline that you created.

Now I started out as a juggler and a fire-eater, so I love you.
We don't get enough juggling and fire-eating, and you did that.
And you certainly showed skills.
The tablecloth pull, everybody always wants to see.
Quick change is really popular.
And then you put in the middle of it one, actually more, but one really stunningly fabulous magic trick.
The magic in the hands of spectators.
Your spectator getting to crush the egg the first time.
Jason, getting to open up and see his own ring is so powerful and the egg was just beautiful.
It was something that I didn't expect to really appear in this.
We see you put the egg in the glass in the beginning, and I kind of forget about it, and then just to have it reappear here.
It was the place I didn't expect to see it and it was wonderful.

That was fantastic.
The levitation was great.
It was very deceptive and I thought it took a lot of guts and I really enjoyed that.
It was big, and I like big.
But for me, at least, the phone coming back around to the toaster was my favorite part.

I like the use of the props in this one.
The diversity of the effects that you did with the floating toaster.
That looked great.
And then to go for a levitation of that size, Shimshi, wow.
I was just wrapped up in the showmanship of it.
I was just mesmerized by it.
I think that was great.
All in all, that was just really strong magic.

We see so much on this show of objects in impossible locations and vanishings, transformations, and appearances.
And seeing a suspension was really nice.
That's one of the big stage things you don't see often.
We love the fact they set it up with a toaster.
The same thing there which gives us a chance to really envision what we're gonna see.
We don't feel exactly like they grooved together like a team completely, but I'm willing to forgive that because the suspension looked so great.
We'll find out which team wins the Wizard War when we come back.

When I walk out on stage, I'm just very careful to keep my fist closed.

And if you give it a squeeze, you can make it look like it's changing colors from red to white until it goes all the way like that.
I'll tell you the secret to the trick.

It kind of ruins the magic.
Now before the show, before you guys even know I'm about to do a trick, I take a red hanky and I put it into my fist.
This happens before the audience knows.
And when I walk out on stage, I'm just very careful to keep my fist closed.
Whatever happens, I keep my fist closed.
Don't open your fist.
Keep it closed.
Get another handkerchief and you put it into your fist.
Give a squeeze and you can make it look like it changes color.
It's a cool trick.
Don't ever accidentally do that.
Then they'll see that there's two hankies.
Then you have to do what a wizard would do.
Actually change the color of the hanky until it goes all the way.

Which team is the winner of tonight's Wizard War? Penn and Teller.

This was really great.
You've got that smooth quality of spouses working together who are tremendous and comfortable.

And although we loved the suspension, we did not scratch our head.
And I think that ultimately with wonderful performances from everybody, deception has got to win out.
