[tense, rhythmic music playing]
[soldier 1] Get down.
[tense, rhythmic music building]
The house is surrounded!
It's done! Come out!
[tense music fades]
Final warning! Now, come out!
- [glass shatters]
- Attack them! Fire!
[rapid gunfire]
Hold it there!
[tense music resumes]
[soldier 2] On the ground! Down! Down!
[tense music swells, fades]
ANOTHER SELF
[gulls calling]
Good morning.
Good morning, Doctor. You're in early.
- I am.
- Oh, Doctor.
Your patient woke up,
and he's in the recovery ward.
Great.
[door opens]
Good morning, Doctor. How is he?
[doctor] Blood pressure
and pulse are stable.
We're keeping him on painkillers.
[gentle music playing]
[patient takes a deep breath]
Anybody able to find out his name?
You're gorgeous.
[chuckles]
You're the first person
who I've had wake up like this.
But you have to be the prettiest doctor.
And how about your name?
- Diyar
- [Ada] Diyar.
I'm your surgeon, Doctor Ada Korkmaz.
I performed your operation.
You're already through the worst.
Everything is looking good.5
Surname?
[sighs] You poking
into my background, by chance?
You couldn't be formally checked in
since you hadn't given your name.
Diyar Çelik.
You must have a family.
Are we able to put you in touch with them?
- I would much prefer your company, Doctor.
- [Ada] Easy now.
You've broken a rib.
For now, you should stay away
from any stress.
[panting]
Can I just leave, Doc?
Assuming you stop moving,
you should be out of here in a week.
That can't be.
Not that long.
Not even for a gorgeous woman.
You're on bed rest until I'm sure
you won't begin bleeding internally.
We'll see in a couple of days.
Get well soon.
I don't suppose you and I have met?
[tense music playing]
We haven't.
Where do you think that we've met?
I'm not positive.
I'm sure it'll come. I'll get it.
[sighs]
Again, get well soon.
Please change the bandages.
[door opens]
[sighs]
[Ada exhales]
[tense music fades]
[Leyla] Good God in heaven!
What have I done to deserve all of this?
JUNE
- Leyla?
- [Leyla] What?
Sevgi's tests are this morning.
But she won't let me go.
Can you go?
Keep her company.
Ah.
- Boy. This morning, huh?
- [Muko] Mm-hmm.
How frazzled my mind is.
But I don't think
I'm any more welcome than you are.
What's that supposed to mean?
Well, I I I mean,
it doesn't mean anything.
It doesn't mean anything.
I'm just saying things. I'm
She'll tell you herself at some point.
She's gonna.
- Once she's ready to.
- [sighs]
She won't speak to me. How can she?
[knocking on door]
Let me get it.
Sevgi?
- I need
- [Muko] Yeah?
[crying] Would you Mom?
Yes, yes. Ma will go with you.
- [both crying]
- [gentle music playing]
[Sevgi] I'm so scared, Mom. I'm so scared.
[Muko] Mm-hmm.
My precious, I'll go with you.
- [Sevgi sobs]
- I'll come.
Mwah. I'll come.
Let's come inside.
Come, my love.
- [whimpers]
- [Muko] Come sit with me.
Here, come and rest
on your mama's lap, okay?
- Come here, my baby.
- [Sevgi] Mama.
[crying softly]
[Muko] Sweetheart. [kisses]
My pretty girl.
My angel.
[Sevgi sniffles, sighs]
[music fades slowly]
[Leyla on phone]
Fiko, it hasn't been long.
I don't think they're done.
What do you want me to ask?
Hey, Leyla. Shouldn't you be there?
You didn't send Sevgi there alone, right?
Hey. My baby is here.
And besides, you know Muko is with her.
- Shouldn't you get there, Fiko?
- She doesn't want me there.
I'd just be causing her trouble, you know?
I don't want her
to get even more upset, Leyla.
Fiko, listen up.
You know that I'm stuck here
in postpartum and anxious as hell.
And I need you to get your butt there.
Capisce? Now, put the phone down.
Ugh, these people, Lord on high.
[exhales sharply]
[sighs]
Hello?
Hey there.
Have you been doing good?
I'm good, um, Mom.
Yeah, sure.
Sure has been a while.
Can you do me a little favor,
would you, Mom?
[Muko] Ada.
I don't think Sevgi looks well.
I'm so worried for her.
Muko. Please don't be worried.
You know
I'll be with Sevgi the whole time.
- Oh, that helps.
- Just try to breathe, okay?
I'm here.
[crying softly]
[somber music playing]
[scanner whirring]
I'll take over this patient. Thank you.
Sevgi?
Sweetheart?
Come on, look.
You know that you beat this once before.
And now here we are.
It feels useless.
You shouldn't feel like that, honey.
If you recovered once,
you can recover again.
Well, that's what I thought the last time.
But it can always come back again.
[Ada sighs]
[Sevgi sighs]
[gentle music playing]
[Ada kisses]
Think about good
and happy things, all right?
[scoffs]
Meaning a bunch of kids
and a big ol' family?
All the things a person could want?
[technician] Doctor? We're ready.
- Sevgi.
- [sighs]
I love you, and you're gonna be just fine.
I'll be with you through it all,
no matter what happens.
Promise.
- All right, let's get this over with.
- All right.
I want the results to be private.
Please don't share them.
I don't want anyone
to see the results but me.
[technician] Sure.
[gentle music playing]
[machinery whirring]
[waves lapping gently in distance]
[notification chimes]
[Toprak] I miss you.
[Ada sighs]
[music fades]
Toprak.
Please, I'm trying to adapt.
But texts like this one
make it harder on me.
Stop it. Please.
[sighs]
Try to focus on work.
Because that's my plan.
[sighs] Good night.
[somber music playing]
[phone locks]
[music fades out]
[Muko] Don't put in a whole spoonful.
You'll just rip it.
A little can go a long way.
You'll be a restaurateur soon.
You know, Leyla? You'd better improve.
Come on, Muko. Hey.
Be nice. Nobody expects me to be perfect.
Plus, I'm plenty good
at other things, friend.
Or I was good at things once.
Fiko didn't come to the hospital.
Didn't even call.
Hey, now. Fiko spent all day calling me.
Like 150 times.
He's sure that you don't want him.
You could try talking to him, hon,
instead of always putting us
in the middle between you.
[phone vibrating]
Toprak's calling.
Are you gonna pick it up?
Not picking up. Nothing he can say.
Oy. Hang on.
Gotta get my code breaker here
to really comprehend this.
I sure hate being mean,
but you are both morons.
These loving boys are begging to be yours,
and they're just getting pushed out.
And most women's partners
wouldn't be worth one of them.
Explain the plan, then.
I should just be happy to have a guy
and disregard the upsetting things
about him?
I don't mean he gets to upset you.
I'm saying perhaps this hair
and beard business
might not belong beneath a microscope.
Oh God, Leyla. I guess Erdem could expect
a nice welcome if he came back, then?
Now, come on.
Erdem's only possible strategy,
is burrowing himself a big escape tunnel
out of prison to get here.
Not only that,
becoming some completely new guy
who isn't going to betray my trust again.
But what's most imperative is
a gladiator costume.
[group laughs]
I don't have a hint of any libido,
mibido, whatever anymore.
God, I think she deserves a reward
or something.
It just takes such true,
wholehearted devotion
to the gladiator costume
to drag it into everything.
Though, if this extra weight
never comes off me,
the gladiator costume
is gonna be irrelevant
because I'll be on the Cunda coast
as a floating attraction.
- [Sevgi] I'm picturing that.
- Leyla, you're something.
- [group chuckles]
- [notification chimes]
Hey, girls?
[Ada and Sevgi] Hmm?
Uh, my mother agreed.
- [Sevgi] Oh?
- Uh, she's coming?
- Yeah, she is.
- [Muko] Wonderful.
Oh, that's great.
Baby helper, right?
I meant to get a hand
with the baby, but uh,
I may not have been
completely transparent on the details.
[Mavi crying on monitor]
[gentle music playing]
[elevator bell dings]
Doctor Ada!
They want you at the ward.
It's something urgent about your patient.
Who is it?
What's going on? Fill me in.
[nurse] The patient was trying to get up,
but then he fell.
I told you, I'm not able
to remain here long.
- [grunts]
- [Ada] Great.
Now you have to stay here longer.
Tramadol, IV.
Be reasonable. You keep this up,
then this is where you'll stay.
That part's up to you.
'Kay. Point made.
My apologies, Doctor. You've persuaded me.
One small condition.
Small condition? I'm all ears.
Please allow me
to buy you a drink, Doctor.
Sir, please.
Patients having feelings
towards doctors isn't right.
And my thoughts are that these drugs
are confusing you badly.
Now, please get over it.
But that isn't gonna be an issue
once I recover fully, Doctor Ada.
[gentle music playing]
So will you?
I say no.
Get well soon.
Watch this one, nurse.
If you don't drink,
coffee or tea will do too.
Soda!
[music fades]
[Mavi fusses]
I wanted to play today, you know.
Besides, I don't like Grandma.
- What's the point of her coming?
- Shh, Sarp.
Stop it. You need to be nice.
Please just act
like you like Grandma for me.
'Kay, baby? She traveled here to see us.
In addition, we need her to help
with your sister, so behave, all right?
Mommy needs to go to work these days,
so we need Grandma to stay with Mavi, huh?
Want me to tell you why? It's so we can
afford all our basic expenses. Got it?
What the hell?
[tense music playing]
That's your grandpa, Sarp.
Leyla!
[Leyla] Let's go.
Mama's about to get killed, honey.
Ow! Stop squeezing.
Go on. Let's go. Go on.
[sighs]
Sarp, help me out.
Lift up the front of the stroller,
okay, honey?
- Go on.
- [Sarp] Okay.
Hello. Hi!
- Good to see you, Mom!
- Sweetie.
- Welcome.
- Thanks, my dear.
Hello, Papa.
Son, say hello
to your grandpa and grandma.
[gently] Leyla.
What's that?
Mavi. Mavi's so sweet.
Let's show her grandparents.
My girl. Prepare yourselves.
Mavi! [takes a deep breath]
Mavi, here's former Colonel Grandpa Hasan
and his wife, Grandma Leman.
[chuckles slightly, sighs]
[tense music fades]
- Here.
- [Leman] Leyla.
What happened, Leyla? Hmm?
What happened, dear?
[woman in Russian] Hello.
- Do you know where the bus stop is?
- [Sevgi clears throat]
[Fiko] It's straight down that way.
[woman] Thank you.
[Selim in English] Whoa!
Welcome, gorgeous.
- [Sevgi] What's up?
- Not a lot.
Things are going well?
Yeah, yeah. Things are all right.
Progressing well, I think. All good.
How are you? How are things going?
Oh, good.
You know, they ran a few tests
on me yesterday.
The results are gonna make
or break things for me.
You look good to me. You look well.
I wish things were always as they seem.
So how are you?
Yeşim treating you good?
[hesitates] Yes.
Things are good. I feel pretty great.
- Though I always miss my daughter.
- [Sevgi] Hmm.
I'm looking forward to calling it a day
and getting back to her at the hotel.
Yeşim and I are doing just fine.
No problems.
Actually, you know,
it's all pretty amazing.
I mean, um, super. [chuckles]
[mockingly] "It's all great, you know?
It's all super."
Don't lie, Selim. You're terrible at it.
Ah? Are you one to talk about lying?
Don't look at me.
You're here for your husband.
[Fiko] Hey, Selim.
We're out of floor tiles.
I'll peek around back.
It's too hot, man. Just take a break.
[Fiko] Oh no. It's fine.
It's distracting.
[Selim] I'll check the back.
You been good?
Yeah. And, uh, how about you?
As good as I can be, thank God.
I'm thankful.
[gentle music playing]
- I would say to grab a seat. Only
- [Sevgi] Oh no.
Really, it's fine.
I came to check up on Selim, but
- [Fiko] Okay, good.
- [clears throat]
Yesterday, they ran tests on me.
Some routine tests, being careful.
Well, I hope the results are clean.
By that, I
I There's no doubt. They'll be clean.
Well, if there's anything
I can do for you, let me know, okay?
[man] Hey, got a minute?
- [Fiko] Sure, bro.
- I should let you get back to work, okay?
Yeah, right.
Oh, Fiko?
- Huh?
- Can you speak Russian?
Oh, uh, I mean
My former girlfriend was Russian.
I speak a little.
You dated a girl from Russia?
Sevgi, it's not like I'm new here,
and tourism's what I do.
- But, I mean, you're angry?
- No, course not. Why would I be?
- Just curious.
- That color compliments you.
Thank you.
All right, then. See you.
[Ada] Leylo, I know that things
seem a little complicated right now,
but your mom and dad are alive.
With you, here.
Maybe that's a better perspective
on the situation.
Rather than absentee parents
who are alive
and just don't care about us? I
I'd wish for loving parents
who died too soon.
Whoa, Leyla. That's awful. Take it back.
Oh, I meant every word.
[takes a deep breath] Whatever.
The restaurant is good.
That's what's important.
Fiko and Selim have got it.
And last but not least,
you guys made this all a reality.
[Ada] Mm.
All is well at the restaurant.
There's no question about it at all.
"Spasibo" Fiko.
It's only been a couple days
since you complained about
wanting him to go away,
give you some room,
and be independent from you.
What happened?
But you heard what I said
about him speaking Russian, right?
- This is an amazing thing.
- What?
- Yes, you're jealous over Fiko-Riko.
- [Ada] Mm-hmm.
[Leyla] It shows that
you haven't stopped caring about Fiko.
What's it matter if I'm jealous or not?
I mean, what could I ever
possibly offer Fiko?
Well, look.
What you're doing is,
you're deciding for Fiko.
And that should be his choice.
Do you know what would help?
Is if you guys sat down and hashed it out.
Hey, you enlightened hermit.
"You holding up?"
Scale of one to ten. Go give it to us.
Oh, ten out of ten, baby.
- Whoa.
- Super. Incredible.
I can't even say how happy.
Zucchini blossoms. Are they yummy?
- They're so yum.
- They're so incredible.
- That's very good.
- They're just so good.
You're the best.
- Mmm.
- [Leyla sighs]
My memory seems stuck on
Dad's expression when we met earlier.
It's time for Zaman, maybe.
He'll help, right?
- [Sevgi] Hmm?
- [group chuckles]
Did you really?
- Muko, hey!
- Muko, I'm amazed you said that.
I can't believe you said that.
[Leyla] You've really become
a fan of Zaman, huh?
She has a point, though.
Gotta admit that, at least.
It'd be good to consider it.
And how am I to accomplish that?
I can't see him.
- My baby is here. Hmm?
- Let me do it!
Mavi's not hard to take care of.
Eat, sleep, poop.
[group laughs]
- Simple is the best.
- That's right.
You think it's so easy, do you?
I hope you enjoy it.
Just go. I'm happy to help.
She'll be great. No worries.
It's no big deal.
[energetic music playing]
[breeze blowing gently]
Doctor Ada!
It's such a surprise to see you,
but I'm so glad you're here.
I'm just as surprised as you are.
Are you feeling any better
since your operation?
I really am, thanks.
- Good.
- So thank you, Doctor.
Seriously.
And it's a big relief
for me to meet you here.
Because my head is so full of questions.
And I'm so
- This is really something powerful.
- It is.
It is. Just please, still follow
your regular schedule for treatment.
Mm-hmm, I will.
- I'll see you.
- See you. Thanks.
[gentle music playing]
It's just baby and me, huh?
I'm wondering how you're gonna grow up.
Listen to me.
I don't want you to waste a minute
on any doctor programs.
Nuh-uh.
Auntie Ada uh, hang on.
Auntie Ada can't know, but I'm about
finished with doctors and nurses.
[Mavi fusses]
And no pharmacy work.
[fusses]
Don't ask questions, Mavi.
Law would be quite a blunder.
[exclaims]
Too hard, I think.
[continues vocalizing]
An artist, then? How about that?
You can bring me a little color.
[coos]
Nuh-uh. Toprak's a bad example.
[exclaims]
He's much too moody.
But Fiko is a good person to be like.
[fusses]
Intelligent, and he's caring.
Loving too.
Hard-working.
- [sneezes]
- Gesundheit.
Fiko's your uncle, you know?
He makes everything beautiful, honey.
And I think you'll be
just like him one day.
[notification chimes]
Don't worry. You're okay, baby.
THE PET/CT SCAN RESULTS FOR SEVGİ SOLMAZ
HAVE BEEN EMAILED TO YOU.
Let's sleep. Okay, my beauty?
- Take a nap with me. Shh.
- [fusses]
[sighs] Yes, baby. Sleep, shh.
[Zaman] All right.
Who would like to go first?
[Leyla] Um
Zaman, I'm up first. Hi.
Sorry. Please forgive me.
- I left my baby at home to be here.
- Alright. Let's begin.
As Leyla said,
she's in need of an expansion.
All right, Leyla.
Please pick someone to represent you here.
You, in the orange.
Uh, you.
Because while I was there, I just
[gentle music playing]
[wind chimes ringing]
You can go ahead
and close your eyes now, please.
[breeze blowing gently]
And you will already know who
and what you represent today.
I feel my hands begin to sweat.
And the pain. My heart is aching.
[breathing shakily]
Tell me. Your father's career was?
A soldier.
Why do you ask?
Attack them, fire!
[rapid gunfire]
[soldier 1] Hold it there!
[tense music playing]
[soldier 2] On the ground! Down! Down!
It was bad intel, sir.
[soldier 2 sighs]
[tense music builds slowly]
[Zaman] Come with me.
Eyes closed, please, now.
You already know
who and what you represent.
[tense music continues]
[Ada exhales shakily]
Can you take a look
at the person before you?
It's painful.
Just try. Please look. Come.
It's painful.
You must look.
[firmly] You must look.
[Ada sighs]
[exhales sharply]
So, on the floor, what is it you see there
that's so deeply painful?
[tense music swells]
[mournful instrumental music playing]
[sighs]
[exhales sharply]
[crying]
I'm so sorry for what happened here.
But I started this,
so now I end it with love.
- [Zaman] Hold his head, please.
- [Ada sobbing]
[Zaman] Come here.
Here. You're his mother.
Okay?
[gently] There.
[music fading slowly]
Zaman, I'm still confused by what I saw.
[Zaman takes a deep breath]
A child was killed
some years back, I think.
[Leyla gasps]
Some unknown boy
who has no name to speak of.
But whose death was mourned.
So make a child's life a happy one.
Try to make their life a little easier.
Help them with their education,
give them a scholarship.
[sighs]
[Zaman] And in that way,
you will honor that child and his mother.
All right, everyone. Please go ahead
and step out of the expansion.
[sighs]
[grunts softly]
Long ago,
a young man, a hunter,
left his village to bring back some meat.
He shoots his arrow at a deer.
And the deer starts to run away
with its chest still pierced
by the man's arrow.
Well, the hunter runs after it.
[Leyla] He started looking
for the deer he shot in the forest.
Eventually, the deer's trail brought
the hunter to the door of a Dervish lodge.
The hunter goes in and tells someone
- [knocking on door]
- [Leyla] "I shot a deer just now."
[Muko] Coming.
[Leyla]"Has anyone seen it?"
Uh, Leyla lives here?
She's telling her son a story.
Uh, Hasan, please.
Leyla's going through a rough patch,
so I don't want you to worry her.
[somber music playing]
[Leyla] And then suddenly,
Dervish Moses comes in, wearing his robe.
And when he opens his robe,
everyone is shocked.
Dervish Moses's chest
was clearly pierced by an arrow.
He asks the hunter
if he recognizes the arrow.
"Is it yours?"
The hunter thought he shot a deer,
but when he saw his arrow
stuck in Dervish Moses's chest,
he fell to his knees, horrified,
and started to beg for forgiveness.
After that, the young hunter
spent his whole life in the Dervish lodge.
It was because
every arrow we shoot at another
is bound to come back to us.
Isn't this beautiful?
Mm-hmm. Sure is.
Here, try it on.
- Really. It'll look good on you.
- [chuckles]
Check it out, hmm?
It looks great.
Thank you, Yeşim.
It's for good luck.
[indistinct chatter]
Oh, hey. What's up?
We're okay.
You?
Great.
I'm good. Good seeing you both.
[Yeşim sighs]
I'll hit the market quick.
It'll close up soon.
See you at the hotel.
Selim.
Please stop being so sneaky, will you?
Come on.
You can go.
Careful.
[Selim] Ada!
Ada!
[sighs]
We couldn't speak earlier.
Seems like a good spot.
Shall we hit the bar?
[Selim] Feels like
it's been years, doesn't it?
[Ada] Mm-hmm. It does.
[Selim] I missed you.
I, uh, miss our talks. From before.
Me too.
Seems you're doing well.
- Mm-hmm.
- Fatherhood is good?
It's great.
Mm.
Hey, could I be honest?
Mm-hmm.
It blew my world apart.
[chuckles softly]
I had so many doubts
before she was actually born.
Then the moment I saw my daughter
[sighs]
How do I say it?
I felt like I was empty.
I didn't have purpose in my life.
Then my daughter was here,
and once I saw her,
it all had a meaning suddenly.
Someone made you feel needed.
[Selim] Hmm?
What do you mean?
That must've felt good.
Because deep inside
you really want to be a hero, don't you?
You need to be surrounded
by people who need you.
[Selim] Hmm.
So this, it's that nonsense
from Zaman what's-his-name?
- Nonsense? [scoffs]
- [Selim] Yeah.
It is nonsense.
I saw it myself. You remember that, Ada.
You can't make that kind of judgment
until you participate.
Watch me do it.
You know, it kinda seems like
you want to pick a fight with me.
- That's right.
- [Ada] Hmm.
- I do.
- You miss this, huh?
- [scoffs] Yeah, I miss it.
- [chuckles]
That's pretty bad.
Well, Yeşim never wants to fight with me.
She just agrees with me.
[chuckles wryly]
That's something you struggle
to cope with?
Yeah.
It all depends on perspective.
You know me. A challenge can be fun.
[Ada] Hmm.
[chuckles, inhales sharply]
By now, I think,
challenges might be
better left behind, Selim.
Maybe what we need now
is something different.
[Ada] Let's wait
till we see a shooting star.
[Selim takes a deep breath]
Toprak and you are done?
Mm-hmm.
That's right.
I won't pretend like I'm sad.
You know exactly how I feel about this.
[chuckles softly]
When I saw you both today
You out with Yeşim and baby Lavinya
it felt a bit strange.
[clicks tongue] Why's that?
Who knows?
But it was strange.
[sighs]
Put the smolder back, Selim.
I know it means trouble, so stop it.
[Selim sighs deeply]
So now what?
Can't help it, Ada.
You should stop talking
about the past, Selim.
It's far too late for that now.
Hmm?
Sure about that, huh?
You know what I really wish for?
That I could just replay things all over
and not have made mistakes and lost you.
Stop it. Stop, we can't.
We can't do this.
So what's stopping us?
[sighs] We can't
just circle around
and around the same mistakes, Selim.
You have you have a family to care for.
I wish Lavinya
that she'd been our little girl instead.
[sighs]
[Ada sighs]
Don't say that, please.
She chose you and Yeşim
to act as her parents, okay?
So please don't say that to me.
[energetic music playing]
[keys jangle]
I see you and assume I've passed on.
Then it all clicks
because I'm not heaven material.
I'm worried about your senses, then.
How are you doing today?
Been feeling any pain?
Super. I took all my meds,
my drip, and I slept well.
- Mm. That's good, then.
- [grunts]
Still, I'm pretty bored.
I've found something
to help pass time, though.
[gentle music plays]
You're some type of artist?
I guess if inspiration strikes.
All right.
Lucky you didn't break your hand, then.
But what type of accident were you in?
You've been hurt, obviously.
You keep yourself distant, so
[music fades out]
For the record, I'm here as your doctor.
Better to stay distant.
Feel better soon.
[Diyar] Do you like to dance?
Why are you asking me?
I'd bet you haven't in a while.
Got places in Ayvalık
where you can go out dancing?
Beats me. For kids your age,
I'm sure clubs exist.
[chuckles, sighs]
The doctor throws down!
Look out.
You earned it.
[door opens]
[door closes]
Well, I did.
- Yeah, you're all clean now. Yeah.
- [knocking on door]
Sevgi, hold on!
[sighs]
Honey, did you forget your keys, or what?
[door opens]
You're here.
Want to join us?
Thanks. I'm fine.
I don't have much time.
We're going back to Antalya.
I wanted to let you know.
[somber music playing]
Okay.
Guess your trip's all finished.
I see.
Don't put this on me, Leyla.
Your father wants that.
So now you'll go?
[sighs]
Hmm?
Why hope that you'd be different?
Sarp never knew you.
You skipped our wedding.
And when I was pregnant, where were you?
Guess I lost my mother
years ago, haven't I?
When did you ask
for our opinion, though, Leyla? Hmm?
You just push your parents' wants aside.
Seems you deserve to be left out!
[crying]
Then I'll just pray for you all.
Amen! [sobs softly]
That's it?
[sighs deeply]
Leyla.
Are you really leaving me like this?
[Leman] Leyla.
[sobbing]
If I so much as tried to speak to Papa
about staying, he'd murder me, understand?
Please, Mom. Oh my God.
Always the same shit.
"He'll go nuts!"
Or he'll murder you,
or he'll be fed up with you, right?
So get going and hurry up
and obey your husband back home!
I can manage this all on my own now.
[Leman sighs]
[Ada] The things we leave behind,
the things we abandon,
the things we kill
are actually pieces of ourselves
and our own hopes.
It's all the joy that we denied ourselves
and our loved ones
by staying behind the walls we built.
[Canan] Oh, look.
Amazing.
Ah, tzatziki.
Perfect. Thank you, guys.
Thank you.
Mm, thanks.
Salad?
Maybe it's nothing to worry about,
but look.
What happened?
[Canan sighs]
- So Aysel, the patient you had?
- Mm-hmm.
She told Doctor Kaan in Urology
about meeting you at Zaman's thing, okay?
Have a good one.
[whispers] She said
it was a positive thing.
Doctor Kaan's been telling
everyone else about it, it seems.
Doctor, I can't even begin
to explain the damage that's done
to people who've been
to those so-called quack healers
with no proper training.
It's completely irresponsible, really.
Doctor Isa, I'm here
if something's upset you.
Do you prefer gossiping?
You want to hear it from me, Dr. Ada?
I think taking your patients
to some scam artist is unethical.
I didn't bring a patient there with me.
It was by chance.
It doesn't explain why you were there.
It's not a good move.
Is it better to speak ill
of a research topic
that you know absolutely nothing about?
We're doctors. We're against it.
And since I have done research,
many countries have found
So it's scientifically therapeutical?
[scoffs]
Most proven scientific methods today
started as old wives' tales.
Doctor, you do know
the importance of morale.
The body and mind are connected.
Placebo effect ring a bell,
or do you dismiss that?
Doctor, I know where you're coming from,
but then what happens
when a patient believes this stuff
and quits their treatment plan?
How is that helping?
I'm not telling anyone
they should consider stopping treatment.
But some things aren't
as easily explained with reason.
Right, Doctor?
We can't deny that psychology may play
a role in the onset of some illnesses.
That's been proven.
Enjoy your lunch.
[somber music playing]
Ah, good God.
[sighs] Don't mind them.
[exhales sharply]
[Sevgi breathing shakily]
ONCOLOGICAL PET/CT RESULTS
[Sevgi exhales]
[somber music fades out]
[up-tempo acoustic guitar music playing]
[music fades out]
[crickets chirping]
[tense, rhythmic music playing]
[soldier 1] Get down.
[tense, rhythmic music building]
The house is surrounded!
It's done! Come out!
[tense music fades]
Final warning! Now, come out!
- [glass shatters]
- Attack them! Fire!
[rapid gunfire]
Hold it there!
[tense music resumes]
[soldier 2] On the ground! Down! Down!
[tense music swells, fades]
ANOTHER SELF
[gulls calling]
Good morning.
Good morning, Doctor. You're in early.
- I am.
- Oh, Doctor.
Your patient woke up,
and he's in the recovery ward.
Great.
[door opens]
Good morning, Doctor. How is he?
[doctor] Blood pressure
and pulse are stable.
We're keeping him on painkillers.
[gentle music playing]
[patient takes a deep breath]
Anybody able to find out his name?
You're gorgeous.
[chuckles]
You're the first person
who I've had wake up like this.
But you have to be the prettiest doctor.
And how about your name?
- Diyar
- [Ada] Diyar.
I'm your surgeon, Doctor Ada Korkmaz.
I performed your operation.
You're already through the worst.
Everything is looking good.5
Surname?
[sighs] You poking
into my background, by chance?
You couldn't be formally checked in
since you hadn't given your name.
Diyar Çelik.
You must have a family.
Are we able to put you in touch with them?
- I would much prefer your company, Doctor.
- [Ada] Easy now.
You've broken a rib.
For now, you should stay away
from any stress.
[panting]
Can I just leave, Doc?
Assuming you stop moving,
you should be out of here in a week.
That can't be.
Not that long.
Not even for a gorgeous woman.
You're on bed rest until I'm sure
you won't begin bleeding internally.
We'll see in a couple of days.
Get well soon.
I don't suppose you and I have met?
[tense music playing]
We haven't.
Where do you think that we've met?
I'm not positive.
I'm sure it'll come. I'll get it.
[sighs]
Again, get well soon.
Please change the bandages.
[door opens]
[sighs]
[Ada exhales]
[tense music fades]
[Leyla] Good God in heaven!
What have I done to deserve all of this?
JUNE
- Leyla?
- [Leyla] What?
Sevgi's tests are this morning.
But she won't let me go.
Can you go?
Keep her company.
Ah.
- Boy. This morning, huh?
- [Muko] Mm-hmm.
How frazzled my mind is.
But I don't think
I'm any more welcome than you are.
What's that supposed to mean?
Well, I I I mean,
it doesn't mean anything.
It doesn't mean anything.
I'm just saying things. I'm
She'll tell you herself at some point.
She's gonna.
- Once she's ready to.
- [sighs]
She won't speak to me. How can she?
[knocking on door]
Let me get it.
Sevgi?
- I need
- [Muko] Yeah?
[crying] Would you Mom?
Yes, yes. Ma will go with you.
- [both crying]
- [gentle music playing]
[Sevgi] I'm so scared, Mom. I'm so scared.
[Muko] Mm-hmm.
My precious, I'll go with you.
- [Sevgi sobs]
- I'll come.
Mwah. I'll come.
Let's come inside.
Come, my love.
- [whimpers]
- [Muko] Come sit with me.
Here, come and rest
on your mama's lap, okay?
- Come here, my baby.
- [Sevgi] Mama.
[crying softly]
[Muko] Sweetheart. [kisses]
My pretty girl.
My angel.
[Sevgi sniffles, sighs]
[music fades slowly]
[Leyla on phone]
Fiko, it hasn't been long.
I don't think they're done.
What do you want me to ask?
Hey, Leyla. Shouldn't you be there?
You didn't send Sevgi there alone, right?
Hey. My baby is here.
And besides, you know Muko is with her.
- Shouldn't you get there, Fiko?
- She doesn't want me there.
I'd just be causing her trouble, you know?
I don't want her
to get even more upset, Leyla.
Fiko, listen up.
You know that I'm stuck here
in postpartum and anxious as hell.
And I need you to get your butt there.
Capisce? Now, put the phone down.
Ugh, these people, Lord on high.
[exhales sharply]
[sighs]
Hello?
Hey there.
Have you been doing good?
I'm good, um, Mom.
Yeah, sure.
Sure has been a while.
Can you do me a little favor,
would you, Mom?
[Muko] Ada.
I don't think Sevgi looks well.
I'm so worried for her.
Muko. Please don't be worried.
You know
I'll be with Sevgi the whole time.
- Oh, that helps.
- Just try to breathe, okay?
I'm here.
[crying softly]
[somber music playing]
[scanner whirring]
I'll take over this patient. Thank you.
Sevgi?
Sweetheart?
Come on, look.
You know that you beat this once before.
And now here we are.
It feels useless.
You shouldn't feel like that, honey.
If you recovered once,
you can recover again.
Well, that's what I thought the last time.
But it can always come back again.
[Ada sighs]
[Sevgi sighs]
[gentle music playing]
[Ada kisses]
Think about good
and happy things, all right?
[scoffs]
Meaning a bunch of kids
and a big ol' family?
All the things a person could want?
[technician] Doctor? We're ready.
- Sevgi.
- [sighs]
I love you, and you're gonna be just fine.
I'll be with you through it all,
no matter what happens.
Promise.
- All right, let's get this over with.
- All right.
I want the results to be private.
Please don't share them.
I don't want anyone
to see the results but me.
[technician] Sure.
[gentle music playing]
[machinery whirring]
[waves lapping gently in distance]
[notification chimes]
[Toprak] I miss you.
[Ada sighs]
[music fades]
Toprak.
Please, I'm trying to adapt.
But texts like this one
make it harder on me.
Stop it. Please.
[sighs]
Try to focus on work.
Because that's my plan.
[sighs] Good night.
[somber music playing]
[phone locks]
[music fades out]
[Muko] Don't put in a whole spoonful.
You'll just rip it.
A little can go a long way.
You'll be a restaurateur soon.
You know, Leyla? You'd better improve.
Come on, Muko. Hey.
Be nice. Nobody expects me to be perfect.
Plus, I'm plenty good
at other things, friend.
Or I was good at things once.
Fiko didn't come to the hospital.
Didn't even call.
Hey, now. Fiko spent all day calling me.
Like 150 times.
He's sure that you don't want him.
You could try talking to him, hon,
instead of always putting us
in the middle between you.
[phone vibrating]
Toprak's calling.
Are you gonna pick it up?
Not picking up. Nothing he can say.
Oy. Hang on.
Gotta get my code breaker here
to really comprehend this.
I sure hate being mean,
but you are both morons.
These loving boys are begging to be yours,
and they're just getting pushed out.
And most women's partners
wouldn't be worth one of them.
Explain the plan, then.
I should just be happy to have a guy
and disregard the upsetting things
about him?
I don't mean he gets to upset you.
I'm saying perhaps this hair
and beard business
might not belong beneath a microscope.
Oh God, Leyla. I guess Erdem could expect
a nice welcome if he came back, then?
Now, come on.
Erdem's only possible strategy,
is burrowing himself a big escape tunnel
out of prison to get here.
Not only that,
becoming some completely new guy
who isn't going to betray my trust again.
But what's most imperative is
a gladiator costume.
[group laughs]
I don't have a hint of any libido,
mibido, whatever anymore.
God, I think she deserves a reward
or something.
It just takes such true,
wholehearted devotion
to the gladiator costume
to drag it into everything.
Though, if this extra weight
never comes off me,
the gladiator costume
is gonna be irrelevant
because I'll be on the Cunda coast
as a floating attraction.
- [Sevgi] I'm picturing that.
- Leyla, you're something.
- [group chuckles]
- [notification chimes]
Hey, girls?
[Ada and Sevgi] Hmm?
Uh, my mother agreed.
- [Sevgi] Oh?
- Uh, she's coming?
- Yeah, she is.
- [Muko] Wonderful.
Oh, that's great.
Baby helper, right?
I meant to get a hand
with the baby, but uh,
I may not have been
completely transparent on the details.
[Mavi crying on monitor]
[gentle music playing]
[elevator bell dings]
Doctor Ada!
They want you at the ward.
It's something urgent about your patient.
Who is it?
What's going on? Fill me in.
[nurse] The patient was trying to get up,
but then he fell.
I told you, I'm not able
to remain here long.
- [grunts]
- [Ada] Great.
Now you have to stay here longer.
Tramadol, IV.
Be reasonable. You keep this up,
then this is where you'll stay.
That part's up to you.
'Kay. Point made.
My apologies, Doctor. You've persuaded me.
One small condition.
Small condition? I'm all ears.
Please allow me
to buy you a drink, Doctor.
Sir, please.
Patients having feelings
towards doctors isn't right.
And my thoughts are that these drugs
are confusing you badly.
Now, please get over it.
But that isn't gonna be an issue
once I recover fully, Doctor Ada.
[gentle music playing]
So will you?
I say no.
Get well soon.
Watch this one, nurse.
If you don't drink,
coffee or tea will do too.
Soda!
[music fades]
[Mavi fusses]
I wanted to play today, you know.
Besides, I don't like Grandma.
- What's the point of her coming?
- Shh, Sarp.
Stop it. You need to be nice.
Please just act
like you like Grandma for me.
'Kay, baby? She traveled here to see us.
In addition, we need her to help
with your sister, so behave, all right?
Mommy needs to go to work these days,
so we need Grandma to stay with Mavi, huh?
Want me to tell you why? It's so we can
afford all our basic expenses. Got it?
What the hell?
[tense music playing]
That's your grandpa, Sarp.
Leyla!
[Leyla] Let's go.
Mama's about to get killed, honey.
Ow! Stop squeezing.
Go on. Let's go. Go on.
[sighs]
Sarp, help me out.
Lift up the front of the stroller,
okay, honey?
- Go on.
- [Sarp] Okay.
Hello. Hi!
- Good to see you, Mom!
- Sweetie.
- Welcome.
- Thanks, my dear.
Hello, Papa.
Son, say hello
to your grandpa and grandma.
[gently] Leyla.
What's that?
Mavi. Mavi's so sweet.
Let's show her grandparents.
My girl. Prepare yourselves.
Mavi! [takes a deep breath]
Mavi, here's former Colonel Grandpa Hasan
and his wife, Grandma Leman.
[chuckles slightly, sighs]
[tense music fades]
- Here.
- [Leman] Leyla.
What happened, Leyla? Hmm?
What happened, dear?
[woman in Russian] Hello.
- Do you know where the bus stop is?
- [Sevgi clears throat]
[Fiko] It's straight down that way.
[woman] Thank you.
[Selim in English] Whoa!
Welcome, gorgeous.
- [Sevgi] What's up?
- Not a lot.
Things are going well?
Yeah, yeah. Things are all right.
Progressing well, I think. All good.
How are you? How are things going?
Oh, good.
You know, they ran a few tests
on me yesterday.
The results are gonna make
or break things for me.
You look good to me. You look well.
I wish things were always as they seem.
So how are you?
Yeşim treating you good?
[hesitates] Yes.
Things are good. I feel pretty great.
- Though I always miss my daughter.
- [Sevgi] Hmm.
I'm looking forward to calling it a day
and getting back to her at the hotel.
Yeşim and I are doing just fine.
No problems.
Actually, you know,
it's all pretty amazing.
I mean, um, super. [chuckles]
[mockingly] "It's all great, you know?
It's all super."
Don't lie, Selim. You're terrible at it.
Ah? Are you one to talk about lying?
Don't look at me.
You're here for your husband.
[Fiko] Hey, Selim.
We're out of floor tiles.
I'll peek around back.
It's too hot, man. Just take a break.
[Fiko] Oh no. It's fine.
It's distracting.
[Selim] I'll check the back.
You been good?
Yeah. And, uh, how about you?
As good as I can be, thank God.
I'm thankful.
[gentle music playing]
- I would say to grab a seat. Only
- [Sevgi] Oh no.
Really, it's fine.
I came to check up on Selim, but
- [Fiko] Okay, good.
- [clears throat]
Yesterday, they ran tests on me.
Some routine tests, being careful.
Well, I hope the results are clean.
By that, I
I There's no doubt. They'll be clean.
Well, if there's anything
I can do for you, let me know, okay?
[man] Hey, got a minute?
- [Fiko] Sure, bro.
- I should let you get back to work, okay?
Yeah, right.
Oh, Fiko?
- Huh?
- Can you speak Russian?
Oh, uh, I mean
My former girlfriend was Russian.
I speak a little.
You dated a girl from Russia?
Sevgi, it's not like I'm new here,
and tourism's what I do.
- But, I mean, you're angry?
- No, course not. Why would I be?
- Just curious.
- That color compliments you.
Thank you.
All right, then. See you.
[Ada] Leylo, I know that things
seem a little complicated right now,
but your mom and dad are alive.
With you, here.
Maybe that's a better perspective
on the situation.
Rather than absentee parents
who are alive
and just don't care about us? I
I'd wish for loving parents
who died too soon.
Whoa, Leyla. That's awful. Take it back.
Oh, I meant every word.
[takes a deep breath] Whatever.
The restaurant is good.
That's what's important.
Fiko and Selim have got it.
And last but not least,
you guys made this all a reality.
[Ada] Mm.
All is well at the restaurant.
There's no question about it at all.
"Spasibo" Fiko.
It's only been a couple days
since you complained about
wanting him to go away,
give you some room,
and be independent from you.
What happened?
But you heard what I said
about him speaking Russian, right?
- This is an amazing thing.
- What?
- Yes, you're jealous over Fiko-Riko.
- [Ada] Mm-hmm.
[Leyla] It shows that
you haven't stopped caring about Fiko.
What's it matter if I'm jealous or not?
I mean, what could I ever
possibly offer Fiko?
Well, look.
What you're doing is,
you're deciding for Fiko.
And that should be his choice.
Do you know what would help?
Is if you guys sat down and hashed it out.
Hey, you enlightened hermit.
"You holding up?"
Scale of one to ten. Go give it to us.
Oh, ten out of ten, baby.
- Whoa.
- Super. Incredible.
I can't even say how happy.
Zucchini blossoms. Are they yummy?
- They're so yum.
- They're so incredible.
- That's very good.
- They're just so good.
You're the best.
- Mmm.
- [Leyla sighs]
My memory seems stuck on
Dad's expression when we met earlier.
It's time for Zaman, maybe.
He'll help, right?
- [Sevgi] Hmm?
- [group chuckles]
Did you really?
- Muko, hey!
- Muko, I'm amazed you said that.
I can't believe you said that.
[Leyla] You've really become
a fan of Zaman, huh?
She has a point, though.
Gotta admit that, at least.
It'd be good to consider it.
And how am I to accomplish that?
I can't see him.
- My baby is here. Hmm?
- Let me do it!
Mavi's not hard to take care of.
Eat, sleep, poop.
[group laughs]
- Simple is the best.
- That's right.
You think it's so easy, do you?
I hope you enjoy it.
Just go. I'm happy to help.
She'll be great. No worries.
It's no big deal.
[energetic music playing]
[breeze blowing gently]
Doctor Ada!
It's such a surprise to see you,
but I'm so glad you're here.
I'm just as surprised as you are.
Are you feeling any better
since your operation?
I really am, thanks.
- Good.
- So thank you, Doctor.
Seriously.
And it's a big relief
for me to meet you here.
Because my head is so full of questions.
And I'm so
- This is really something powerful.
- It is.
It is. Just please, still follow
your regular schedule for treatment.
Mm-hmm, I will.
- I'll see you.
- See you. Thanks.
[gentle music playing]
It's just baby and me, huh?
I'm wondering how you're gonna grow up.
Listen to me.
I don't want you to waste a minute
on any doctor programs.
Nuh-uh.
Auntie Ada uh, hang on.
Auntie Ada can't know, but I'm about
finished with doctors and nurses.
[Mavi fusses]
And no pharmacy work.
[fusses]
Don't ask questions, Mavi.
Law would be quite a blunder.
[exclaims]
Too hard, I think.
[continues vocalizing]
An artist, then? How about that?
You can bring me a little color.
[coos]
Nuh-uh. Toprak's a bad example.
[exclaims]
He's much too moody.
But Fiko is a good person to be like.
[fusses]
Intelligent, and he's caring.
Loving too.
Hard-working.
- [sneezes]
- Gesundheit.
Fiko's your uncle, you know?
He makes everything beautiful, honey.
And I think you'll be
just like him one day.
[notification chimes]
Don't worry. You're okay, baby.
THE PET/CT SCAN RESULTS FOR SEVGİ SOLMAZ
HAVE BEEN EMAILED TO YOU.
Let's sleep. Okay, my beauty?
- Take a nap with me. Shh.
- [fusses]
[sighs] Yes, baby. Sleep, shh.
[Zaman] All right.
Who would like to go first?
[Leyla] Um
Zaman, I'm up first. Hi.
Sorry. Please forgive me.
- I left my baby at home to be here.
- Alright. Let's begin.
As Leyla said,
she's in need of an expansion.
All right, Leyla.
Please pick someone to represent you here.
You, in the orange.
Uh, you.
Because while I was there, I just
[gentle music playing]
[wind chimes ringing]
You can go ahead
and close your eyes now, please.
[breeze blowing gently]
And you will already know who
and what you represent today.
I feel my hands begin to sweat.
And the pain. My heart is aching.
[breathing shakily]
Tell me. Your father's career was?
A soldier.
Why do you ask?
Attack them, fire!
[rapid gunfire]
[soldier 1] Hold it there!
[tense music playing]
[soldier 2] On the ground! Down! Down!
It was bad intel, sir.
[soldier 2 sighs]
[tense music builds slowly]
[Zaman] Come with me.
Eyes closed, please, now.
You already know
who and what you represent.
[tense music continues]
[Ada exhales shakily]
Can you take a look
at the person before you?
It's painful.
Just try. Please look. Come.
It's painful.
You must look.
[firmly] You must look.
[Ada sighs]
[exhales sharply]
So, on the floor, what is it you see there
that's so deeply painful?
[tense music swells]
[mournful instrumental music playing]
[sighs]
[exhales sharply]
[crying]
I'm so sorry for what happened here.
But I started this,
so now I end it with love.
- [Zaman] Hold his head, please.
- [Ada sobbing]
[Zaman] Come here.
Here. You're his mother.
Okay?
[gently] There.
[music fading slowly]
Zaman, I'm still confused by what I saw.
[Zaman takes a deep breath]
A child was killed
some years back, I think.
[Leyla gasps]
Some unknown boy
who has no name to speak of.
But whose death was mourned.
So make a child's life a happy one.
Try to make their life a little easier.
Help them with their education,
give them a scholarship.
[sighs]
[Zaman] And in that way,
you will honor that child and his mother.
All right, everyone. Please go ahead
and step out of the expansion.
[sighs]
[grunts softly]
Long ago,
a young man, a hunter,
left his village to bring back some meat.
He shoots his arrow at a deer.
And the deer starts to run away
with its chest still pierced
by the man's arrow.
Well, the hunter runs after it.
[Leyla] He started looking
for the deer he shot in the forest.
Eventually, the deer's trail brought
the hunter to the door of a Dervish lodge.
The hunter goes in and tells someone
- [knocking on door]
- [Leyla] "I shot a deer just now."
[Muko] Coming.
[Leyla]"Has anyone seen it?"
Uh, Leyla lives here?
She's telling her son a story.
Uh, Hasan, please.
Leyla's going through a rough patch,
so I don't want you to worry her.
[somber music playing]
[Leyla] And then suddenly,
Dervish Moses comes in, wearing his robe.
And when he opens his robe,
everyone is shocked.
Dervish Moses's chest
was clearly pierced by an arrow.
He asks the hunter
if he recognizes the arrow.
"Is it yours?"
The hunter thought he shot a deer,
but when he saw his arrow
stuck in Dervish Moses's chest,
he fell to his knees, horrified,
and started to beg for forgiveness.
After that, the young hunter
spent his whole life in the Dervish lodge.
It was because
every arrow we shoot at another
is bound to come back to us.
Isn't this beautiful?
Mm-hmm. Sure is.
Here, try it on.
- Really. It'll look good on you.
- [chuckles]
Check it out, hmm?
It looks great.
Thank you, Yeşim.
It's for good luck.
[indistinct chatter]
Oh, hey. What's up?
We're okay.
You?
Great.
I'm good. Good seeing you both.
[Yeşim sighs]
I'll hit the market quick.
It'll close up soon.
See you at the hotel.
Selim.
Please stop being so sneaky, will you?
Come on.
You can go.
Careful.
[Selim] Ada!
Ada!
[sighs]
We couldn't speak earlier.
Seems like a good spot.
Shall we hit the bar?
[Selim] Feels like
it's been years, doesn't it?
[Ada] Mm-hmm. It does.
[Selim] I missed you.
I, uh, miss our talks. From before.
Me too.
Seems you're doing well.
- Mm-hmm.
- Fatherhood is good?
It's great.
Mm.
Hey, could I be honest?
Mm-hmm.
It blew my world apart.
[chuckles softly]
I had so many doubts
before she was actually born.
Then the moment I saw my daughter
[sighs]
How do I say it?
I felt like I was empty.
I didn't have purpose in my life.
Then my daughter was here,
and once I saw her,
it all had a meaning suddenly.
Someone made you feel needed.
[Selim] Hmm?
What do you mean?
That must've felt good.
Because deep inside
you really want to be a hero, don't you?
You need to be surrounded
by people who need you.
[Selim] Hmm.
So this, it's that nonsense
from Zaman what's-his-name?
- Nonsense? [scoffs]
- [Selim] Yeah.
It is nonsense.
I saw it myself. You remember that, Ada.
You can't make that kind of judgment
until you participate.
Watch me do it.
You know, it kinda seems like
you want to pick a fight with me.
- That's right.
- [Ada] Hmm.
- I do.
- You miss this, huh?
- [scoffs] Yeah, I miss it.
- [chuckles]
That's pretty bad.
Well, Yeşim never wants to fight with me.
She just agrees with me.
[chuckles wryly]
That's something you struggle
to cope with?
Yeah.
It all depends on perspective.
You know me. A challenge can be fun.
[Ada] Hmm.
[chuckles, inhales sharply]
By now, I think,
challenges might be
better left behind, Selim.
Maybe what we need now
is something different.
[Ada] Let's wait
till we see a shooting star.
[Selim takes a deep breath]
Toprak and you are done?
Mm-hmm.
That's right.
I won't pretend like I'm sad.
You know exactly how I feel about this.
[chuckles softly]
When I saw you both today
You out with Yeşim and baby Lavinya
it felt a bit strange.
[clicks tongue] Why's that?
Who knows?
But it was strange.
[sighs]
Put the smolder back, Selim.
I know it means trouble, so stop it.
[Selim sighs deeply]
So now what?
Can't help it, Ada.
You should stop talking
about the past, Selim.
It's far too late for that now.
Hmm?
Sure about that, huh?
You know what I really wish for?
That I could just replay things all over
and not have made mistakes and lost you.
Stop it. Stop, we can't.
We can't do this.
So what's stopping us?
[sighs] We can't
just circle around
and around the same mistakes, Selim.
You have you have a family to care for.
I wish Lavinya
that she'd been our little girl instead.
[sighs]
[Ada sighs]
Don't say that, please.
She chose you and Yeşim
to act as her parents, okay?
So please don't say that to me.
[energetic music playing]
[keys jangle]
I see you and assume I've passed on.
Then it all clicks
because I'm not heaven material.
I'm worried about your senses, then.
How are you doing today?
Been feeling any pain?
Super. I took all my meds,
my drip, and I slept well.
- Mm. That's good, then.
- [grunts]
Still, I'm pretty bored.
I've found something
to help pass time, though.
[gentle music plays]
You're some type of artist?
I guess if inspiration strikes.
All right.
Lucky you didn't break your hand, then.
But what type of accident were you in?
You've been hurt, obviously.
You keep yourself distant, so
[music fades out]
For the record, I'm here as your doctor.
Better to stay distant.
Feel better soon.
[Diyar] Do you like to dance?
Why are you asking me?
I'd bet you haven't in a while.
Got places in Ayvalık
where you can go out dancing?
Beats me. For kids your age,
I'm sure clubs exist.
[chuckles, sighs]
The doctor throws down!
Look out.
You earned it.
[door opens]
[door closes]
Well, I did.
- Yeah, you're all clean now. Yeah.
- [knocking on door]
Sevgi, hold on!
[sighs]
Honey, did you forget your keys, or what?
[door opens]
You're here.
Want to join us?
Thanks. I'm fine.
I don't have much time.
We're going back to Antalya.
I wanted to let you know.
[somber music playing]
Okay.
Guess your trip's all finished.
I see.
Don't put this on me, Leyla.
Your father wants that.
So now you'll go?
[sighs]
Hmm?
Why hope that you'd be different?
Sarp never knew you.
You skipped our wedding.
And when I was pregnant, where were you?
Guess I lost my mother
years ago, haven't I?
When did you ask
for our opinion, though, Leyla? Hmm?
You just push your parents' wants aside.
Seems you deserve to be left out!
[crying]
Then I'll just pray for you all.
Amen! [sobs softly]
That's it?
[sighs deeply]
Leyla.
Are you really leaving me like this?
[Leman] Leyla.
[sobbing]
If I so much as tried to speak to Papa
about staying, he'd murder me, understand?
Please, Mom. Oh my God.
Always the same shit.
"He'll go nuts!"
Or he'll murder you,
or he'll be fed up with you, right?
So get going and hurry up
and obey your husband back home!
I can manage this all on my own now.
[Leman sighs]
[Ada] The things we leave behind,
the things we abandon,
the things we kill
are actually pieces of ourselves
and our own hopes.
It's all the joy that we denied ourselves
and our loved ones
by staying behind the walls we built.
[Canan] Oh, look.
Amazing.
Ah, tzatziki.
Perfect. Thank you, guys.
Thank you.
Mm, thanks.
Salad?
Maybe it's nothing to worry about,
but look.
What happened?
[Canan sighs]
- So Aysel, the patient you had?
- Mm-hmm.
She told Doctor Kaan in Urology
about meeting you at Zaman's thing, okay?
Have a good one.
[whispers] She said
it was a positive thing.
Doctor Kaan's been telling
everyone else about it, it seems.
Doctor, I can't even begin
to explain the damage that's done
to people who've been
to those so-called quack healers
with no proper training.
It's completely irresponsible, really.
Doctor Isa, I'm here
if something's upset you.
Do you prefer gossiping?
You want to hear it from me, Dr. Ada?
I think taking your patients
to some scam artist is unethical.
I didn't bring a patient there with me.
It was by chance.
It doesn't explain why you were there.
It's not a good move.
Is it better to speak ill
of a research topic
that you know absolutely nothing about?
We're doctors. We're against it.
And since I have done research,
many countries have found
So it's scientifically therapeutical?
[scoffs]
Most proven scientific methods today
started as old wives' tales.
Doctor, you do know
the importance of morale.
The body and mind are connected.
Placebo effect ring a bell,
or do you dismiss that?
Doctor, I know where you're coming from,
but then what happens
when a patient believes this stuff
and quits their treatment plan?
How is that helping?
I'm not telling anyone
they should consider stopping treatment.
But some things aren't
as easily explained with reason.
Right, Doctor?
We can't deny that psychology may play
a role in the onset of some illnesses.
That's been proven.
Enjoy your lunch.
[somber music playing]
Ah, good God.
[sighs] Don't mind them.
[exhales sharply]
[Sevgi breathing shakily]
ONCOLOGICAL PET/CT RESULTS
[Sevgi exhales]
[somber music fades out]
[up-tempo acoustic guitar music playing]
[music fades out]
