SEAL Team (2017) s02e03 Episode Script
The Worst of Conditions
1 - Previously on SEAL Team - Jason still being stubborn? - Here I am.
- You hear what's going on over at Charlie Team? RAY: You ever hear the saying, "quit while you're ahead," Jason? Quit? That's real funny coming from a guy like you, 'cause what I'm hearing is that you're window-shopping other teams.
ALANA: What's wrong? I could use a beer.
Look, I'm gonna go grab H-E-B's finest bottle of $12 red, rotisserie chicken and beer.
- [KNOCKING AT DOOR.]
- POLICEMAN: Are you Jason Hayes? What can I help you with? It's your wife.
There's been an accident.
[ECHOES.]

Hey.
Hey.
Hey.
Hey.
There's been an accident.
- My wife.
Hayes.
- Name? H-A-Y-E-S.
Alana Hayes.
She's in surgery.
It's down the hallway to the right.
I'm sorry.
SONNY: Listen here, Tinker Bell, okay? There is no way in hell that people of your ilk are better at throwing sharp objects - than my people, okay? - Ooh, nice.
- Oh, there you go.
No look, too.
- That was nice.
That was nice.
- Here you go.
So close.
- I'd probably look next time.
[LAUGHS.]
Listen here, sunshine, all right? My people, the Vikings, we throw rocks, okay? All right, we don't need the sharp objects.
That's for the old ladies and the children.
You see, I am a "Raspatutin" in boots.
A Rasputin with a love of rodeo.
Mm-hmm.
I'm in your head right now, aren't I? Oh! [ALL SHOUT.]
Boom! That was a good shot there, CoverGirl.
Not gonna lie.
I'd like to drink a little.
Who? It's Jason.
Alana, actually.
Oh.
Oh, no.
You wanted to see me, sir? Davis.
There's been an accident.
Alana Hayes.
She was killed earlier.
[DISTORTED.]
: I don't have all the details.
May have been a drunk driver.
I know everyone is gonna take this hard, so I'll keep you posted when more information comes, all right? [PHONE RINGS.]
Hello? Alana, she she's I can't, Ray.
- She's - I know.
[TREMBLING BREATHS.]
She MAN [OVER P.
A.
.]
: Keep a close watch over your bags and personal items Mrs.
Hayes.
- You must be my ride.
- Yes.
Petty Officer Davis.
It's a pleasure to meet you, although I wish it were under better circumstances.
I'm a civilian, Petty Officer Davis.
Do you mind if I call you by your first name? Not at all.
It's Lisa.
And my name is Linda, not ma'am.
Yes, ma'am.
Lisa how's my son? He's not great.
But we've got him.
All of us.
We're here for him.
Dawn? Hi.
Uh, my name is Stella.
I'm Clay's girlfriend.
Naima asked me to call for Jason and his family.
Well, actually, they'll need, uh, meals and groceries.
If Oh, if you could, that would be great.
Yeah, I'm actually gonna send a schedule out, if that's all right.
Oh, okay, good.
Thank you.
Thank you, Dawn.
All right.
Okay, bye.
Only 14 more to go.
[SIGHS.]
Hey.
I'm sorry you had to do this.
I just I didn't want to say no.
It's okay.
It's just a little weird.
"Hi.
I'm Stella.
We've never actually met, but, um, Alana died.
Can you bring a casserole?" Just make sure someone brings that one with the green beans and the little onions, Campbell's soup.
Okay.
And, uh, and beer.
Lots of beer.
Okay, so the exact casserole everyone's grandma made.
- And beer.
- But none Hey, none of that none of that fancy microbrew crap, okay? None of the fancy microbrew crap.
Got it.
How do you how do you do this? - Hmm? - Just how do you deal with death all the time? I mean, I get that Team guys are supposed to run towards the bullets and all that, but still.
Yeah, I've never dealt with this when it had to do with someone's wife.
We don't do this.
I can't even imagine.
[KNOCK AT DOOR.]
Sonny, it's Naima.
Open the door.
Open the door, Sonny, or I'm coming in.
- Damn, Naima.
- Don't start, Sonny.
I-I know you're hurting.
We all are.
And we're all gonna have to deal with it.
Right now is about Jason.
Get in the shower and get it together.
[SIGHS.]
Yes, ma'am.
I'll fix you something to eat to soak up all that booze.
[BIRDS CHIRPING.]
[TV PLAYING INDISTINCTLY.]
Do you want something to eat? - [CRYING.]
- Emma.
[TV TURNS OFF.]
I don't want to eat.
[SNIFFLES.]
I want to find a bat and break every window in the house.
[SOBBING.]
I want to break everything I see.
So do I.
I know.
It's hard.
- I miss her.
- Shh.
Yeah, I know.
Hey.
So do I.
[SOBS.]
It's all right.
Did you hear from Mandy yet? She's trying to catch a flight.
I'd like you to meet Alana's parents.
Grace, Robert, this is Victoria, Adam's wife.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Thank you.
We're glad you could come.
[SNIFFS.]
Alana was like family.
Uh, my husband Adam went through BUD/S with Jason.
Our girls grew up together.
I want out of here.
Let's steal some beer, leave.
[SNIFFS.]
No, I think we should stay here.
Here sucks so hard.
[RAY SIGHS.]
You want to tell me what you're doing out here, when I know you changed that oil pan already? Thought I saw a leak, you know.
It was worth a look.
Uh-huh.
You do realize everyone is inside, correct? Yeah, yeah.
I can I can hear 'em.
I got ears.
I can hear 'em.
I don't want to hear 'em.
I don't care about what they have to say.
All the "I'm sorrys," you know, "How are you, Jason?" "How's it going?" "Can I get you something?" "Everything okay?" Okay.
You want them to leave? No.
They just are here to help, that's all.
I don't I handled all this wrong, Ray, you know? Your shoulder, Green Team, I just I handled it all wrong.
Maybe you didn't.
Maybe you were right.
Someone did die.
Yeah.
Someone died.
It's war.
Maybe I took it personally, I don't know.
[EXHALES.]
You know, the thing is, Ray, you know, I count on you more than anyone on this team.
But Alana dying, I just I don't Hey.
It's done.
It's in the past.
Ray I can't bury her.
You know, when something like this happens to us, you know, the Navy, they just take care of it.
Can't do it.
It's fine, brother.
Hey.
The team can take over.
We got this, Jason.
Thank God for the deli.
Storm J-bad, no problem.
Put me in the kitchen, and I'm useless.
You catch the news? See what's going on in Mumbai? Yeah.
Looks like it's escalating.
CLAY: Yeah, we're probably gonna get - spun up soon.
- ERIC: 'Fraid so.
We need someone to help with cleaning the house and the kids laundry.
- I can do that.
- Thanks.
You know, any woman that can teach literature, put up with you and sling casseroles at a funeral My, I think we have enough food to feed the entire Navy and we'd still have leftovers.
- The Seal community.
- Take care of their own.
Keeper.
- That's what I was thinking.
- Mm-hmm.
SONNY: Hang tough there, Mikey.
You know, there ain't no real way through it.
You just got to look right at it.
Your mama would be real proud of you.
You know, ever, uh, since I joined Bravo Team, I've wanted to be just like your daddy.
[CHUCKLES.]
I did.
He's one tough Tier 1 badass.
Best I've ever seen.
Hey, Mikey.
Look at me.
I promise you I won't let anything happen to him.
Okay? Do you think this feels different for Dad? Different from all the people he's buried? Other soldiers? Other Team guys.
I mean, Dad's known a lot of people who've died.
[CRYING.]
: So maybe this isn't as hard for him.
Your parents may have had problems, but he loved your mom very much.
Okay.
This is more than hard for your dad, honey.
I think this is going to be the hardest thing for him ever.
- [EXHALES.]
- [DOOR OPENS.]
[CRYING.]
Go on.
Okay, Emma.
I'm gonna call the florist before they close.
We should really go there first thing in the morning.
If you're okay with that.
What are you doing? Davis said that any girl who can put up with me and sling casseroles at a wake is a keeper.
Okay.
Then keep me.
Okay.
I will say, though, that I-I never pictured myself a part of the Pink Squadron, you know? But there I was on kitchen duty.
Casserole in one hand and fruit salad in the other.
Not really the, uh the look of a true feminist? [LAUGHS.]
Maybe.
Actually, I don't know.
All I know is that I'm really glad I got to be a part of today.
You know, everybody dropping everything, no questions asked.
It's not usual.
It's just the right thing to do.
Mm, my world Mm, I don't know, the people wouldn't know how to do today.
They might surprise you.
Maybe.
People that you work with, military in general, it's different.
It's like like a community, you know, like like family.
Talk about embracing the suck.
You know, I I ain't never picked out a coffin before.
It's called a casket.
Coffin is morbid.
No.
Coffin, casket, pine ride to the nether world That's all you, Davis.
Uh, no.
[SCOFFS.]
No.
Look, the only funerals that I've ever been to were Navy.
- Dress blues and 21 guns.
- Yeah.
All I had to do was stand at attention.
Well, a Navy funeral, that sounds morbid to me.
And there's no way in hell I'm letting a bunch of squids handle my final good-bye.
You see, I want, like, a Texas-style barbecue, okay? Grill me right alongside the ribs, and then take my ashes and scatter them all over the Alamo.
There's something wrong with you, you know that? I stand by my choice.
- Okay.
- How about you? Hmm? Let me guess, you want, like, some sort of traditional funeral? - I don't care.
- Yeah? I just I want my life to have mattered.
Well, that's a done deal, Davis.
It already does.
To all the people here, to the team.
To me.
Thank you, Sonny.
That's nice to hear.
Oh, pump the brakes.
Don't get too touched.
I've had - too many feels already today.
- Okay.
Okay? I need another drink.
[CLEARS THROAT.]
[POOL BALLS CLICKING.]
How's it going? Oh, good, sir, uh, all things considered.
Yeah.
Hey, can we get you something? Sonny's up at the bar.
No, thanks.
I'm good.
Listen, I didn't want to tell you at the house, but, um, you got your commission, Lisa.
You are going to Officer Candidate School.
I did it? I got in? Less than one percent of enlisted achieve a commission.
You should be proud.
Oh, God.
- You all right? - Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Th-That is great news, thank you.
Um Hey, do you th Do you think we could just keep this between us for right now? Sure.
No problem.
- If you insist.
- Mm.
Officer.
[CHUCKLES.]
I hate leftovers.
How about I make us some soup, hmm? I'll order pizza.
We had that last night.
LINDA: All right, well, what do you feel like, hmm? EMMA: Tacos.
Ketchup tacos.
EMMA: Great idea.
Ketchup tacos? EMMA: They're better than they sound.
Mom, it's just tacos with ketchup in the mix, that's all.
But not too much ketchup.
- And Worcestershire.
- Should be, um Mom's recipe's got to be around here somewhere, right? Mom always made them from memory.
Okay.
Mikey, get the spatula.
Clear some of this stuff off.
Mom's not here, so Mom can't make it from memory.
Right? LINDA: Geez.
Here - Honey, I got it.
- Okay, Mom, stop! Stop! - I got it.
- [SNIFFLES.]
I got it.
[GLASS BREAKING.]
- [GRUNTING.]
- Don't! Jason! Damn it! Damn it! Jason! - Come on! [GRUNTS.]
Damn it! - Daddy! - [CRYING.]
Dad.
- [GRUNTING.]
Dad.
[PANTING.]
[EMMA WHIMPERS.]
[PANTING LOUDLY.]
[CRYING.]
It's going to be all right.
I promise.
[PANTING.]
[EMMA CRIES, SNIFFLES.]
[CRYING.]
Came as soon as I heard.
No more sympathy, all right? None.
No more "How are you holding up, Jason?" questions.
I don't want to talk about me, and I don't want to talk about Alana.
[SIGHS.]
Pretty sure the next Sprinter to Norfolk isn't till tomorrow.
It's kind of creepy how you find me.
You're Bravo 1.
Got to always keep you in my sights, right? Funeral home sent me this.
It's a It's got Alana's jewelry inside.
This is where it happened.
This is where her car was hit.
Corner of Holland and Dam Neck.
I know.
I was counting the cars, Ray.
1,142 in two hours.
Imagine that many in an hour, in a day, in a week, in a year? No one's ever died here until Alana.
Makes no sense.
Know what makes even less sense? When I was away operating, my wife was at home worrying about me being killed.
I've trucked through some of the most dangerous places in the world.
I mean I've been shot, I've been stabbed.
Survived a helicopter crash.
And I'm alive.
I'm alive sitting here where she died.
Just a mile from our house.
You're gonna get through this, Jason.
It's gonna take time, brother, but you're gonna get through it, I promise.
I took her for granted, Ray.
I took her for granted.
I miss her, Ray.
Mikey? Mikey, what are you doing? Right, okay.
[SNIFFLES.]
You don't want to talk to me, I get it.
You have every right to be mad at me.
[SNIFFLES.]
You know, I deserve it.
I'm sorry.
I'm really sorry, Mikey.
You shouldn't have hit the refrigerator.
Mom wouldn't have liked it.
You're right.
Mom definitely wouldn't have liked me hitting that refrigerator.
That was her favorite refrigerator.
We shouldn't forget just because she's gone.
No way.
We're never gonna forget.
Look at me.
Hey.
I promise you we're never gonna forget her.
You understand? [QUIET, INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
We're picking out a dress for Alana to wear.
[JASON INHALES DEEPLY, CLEARS THROAT.]
This one.
This is the one.
[SNIFFLES.]
Yeah, she wore this all the time.
Because you bought it for her.
She, um She wore this to your Christmas recital.
She sent me a picture of the the three of you, and she was wearing this dress.
MAN: You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil.
My cup runneth over.
Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Amen.
[CLEARS THROAT QUIETLY.]
I'm not really good at this.
I wrote some things down.
It's, uh, ironic that I'm a SEAL and, uh, Alana she's the one who pulled me out of the water when we were kids and saved me.
That's how we met.
It's always been Alana and me and then the kids.
A family.
[SIGHS.]
I thought that Alana revolved around me.
Like she and the kids were frozen in time right when I left until I came home.
But now I understand.
[VOICE BREAKING.]
I understand.
It was because of Alana that I could be who I was a Team guy.
She held everything together and made it work.
She didn't revolve around me.
I revolved around her.
Our family did.
[JASON SIGHS.]
[SNIFFLES.]
I really hope that our family can survive without you, baby.
[PHONES RINGING AND BUZZING.]
[PHONE BUZZING.]
[GASPS.]
I hate you! All right.
- [CRYING.]
- Hey.
Hey.
- Stop.
Hey.
Stop.
- I hate you.
I hate you.
[EMMA CRYING.]
JASON: Stop.
Stop.
[EMMA SOBBING.]
[CRYING.]
You can't go.
You can't go.
You can't go.
I'm sorry.
I know the timing couldn't be worse, but we have a situation.
Pakistani radicals, Hizbul Mujahideen, have taken over a hotel in Mumbai.
MANDY: Their actions are in response to Indian troop movement in the Kashmir region.
HM wants to draw attention to their cause.
They've seized the Grand Sopara Hotel in downtown Mumbai, where an American Foreign Service Officer - is staying.
- We're operating in a friendly country? ERIC: Indian government has given us the green light to go in and rescue our FSO.
But bear in mind, that is the extent of our mission.
We go in, we grab our guy, we exfil.
[DOOR OPENS.]
End of story.
MANDY: FSO David Nelson left the embassy at 1500 hours local time and returned to his hotel.
According to his wife, he called her about an hour before the assault.
We believe he's still in his room.
Based on visuals procured from multiple sources, we've identified seven shooters with heavy body armor and what appear to be AKs.
Any EOD problems reported? IEDs? Nothing yet, but everything's fluid.
- State-sponsored? - Can't assume that, but it's likely.
SONNY: So we've got an American FSO trapped inside a hotel that's been taken over by one of many "I hate Hindus and Westerner" groups that kill and don't negotiate.
ERIC: That's a fair assessment.
And if we don't get in there in time, then we can count on Dave Nelson being amongst those who die.
Them jackasses in Mumbai want some attention, bring some eyes to their cause, you make a sex tape with a celebrity.
- TRENT: Got to be an A-lister.
- SONNY: No, come on, man.
They're a dime a dozen these days.
I bet you one of them, uh them Kardashian sisters would be available.
Yeah.
Wouldn't have to have all this bloodshed and kidnapping.
Hey, why are we ignoring this? Come on, man.
Jason didn't hear a word of that warning order.
Guy's not up for this.
Why am I the only one saying it? 'Cause you're the youngest, son.
You may be 2IC, but you need to refrain.
All right? It ain't our decision to make.
[INDISTINCT CHATTER.]
[SIGHS.]
[SIGHS.]
[PHONE BUZZING.]
[QUIETLY.]
Hey.
You okay? All right, I'm on my way.
Sorry, Mikey.
Uh you're gonna have to beat 'em on your own.
They need me on base.
[DOOR OPENS.]
RAY: Jason.
What's going on? I want to show you something.
What do you see there? You.
Your beautiful kids.
You're my friend, right? Yeah.
Always.
I need something from you.
Anything.
I need you back on Bravo Team, if you're okay with that.
[EXHALES.]
Well, you already know the answer.
Been waiting to roll with you six months.
Yeah, well, the thing is, I won't be there.
What you see here, two beautiful kids.
What I see, I see the only parent they have left.
I'm standing down.
Just for this mission? Not forever.
I don't know.
[MUTTERS.]
I don't know.
First time I've been paged since I've been at Green Team.
What's happening? Wheels up for Mumbai in 20.
Need you on that plane.
As Bravo 1.
Jason? Standing down.
His choice.
Sometimes being a father's more important than being a SEAL.
Jason made the right call.
He won't regret it.
100%.
[THUNDER RUMBLING.]
You didn't go? No.
[KEYS JANGLE.]
You've never stayed behind.
Not ever.
Not for anyone.
Yeah.
Come on, big guy.
Get up.
Come on.
You get up there.
I got you.
Well, this time, this time I am.
[CRYING.]
I thought for sure you were leaving.
Shh, I know.
- Yeah.
So so did I.
- [CRYING.]
So did I.
So did I.
[SNIFFLES.]
I'm here, okay? [SIGHS.]
After days of threats following Indian troop movements in the disputed territory of Kashmir, Pakistani radicals, the Hizbul Mujahideen, have launched what appear to be multiple coordinated attacks across the city of Mumbai.
We're waiting for confirmation, but the latest reports suggest four separate locations of the attacks, the Braman National Theatre, Tamerlane Gallery, Khorana University, and the Sopara Grand Hotel, with multiple casualties at each location.
Brihanmumbai Police have shut down the city, allowing only authorized personnel in or out until the situation is resolved.
[MAN SPEAKING FOREIGN LANGUAGE OVER SPEAKER.]
MAN: Military and police vehicles and personnel only.
[SPEAKS FOREIGN LANGUAGE.]
Listen, Ray.
- Yeah.
- I know Bravo's your platoon.
You've been Jason's go-to guy for a long time.
And I appreciate that.
But I'm coming in midstream.
I trained Clay.
We've got a shorthand.
So I'm gonna keep him as 2IC.
I need you as Bravo 6, running comms for me.
Check.
I'm on it.
I'm just glad to be back, brother.
I hear you.
Feels good to be doing the job.
Damn straight.
How's it look? Good so far.
Passed the university.
Two klicks to the hotel.
[SIREN WAILING.]
[ALARM BLARING IN DISTANCE.]
Sitrep? Shots fired internally ten minutes ago.
Nothing external in the last 20.
Send the Hair Missile.
Roger that.
[DOOR OPENS.]
[BARKING.]
[ALARM BLARING.]
[PANTING.]
We're clear.
[ALARM CONTINUES BLARING.]
[PHONE RINGING.]
HAVOC, this is Bravo 1.
Entered main lobby.
Cerberus, first! [ALARM AND PHONE CONTINUE.]
[SHOUTING.]
[GROANS.]
[THUD.]
Let's get ready to rumble.
It's a dry hole, boss.
[SIGHS.]
HAVOC Base, this is Bravo 1.
ERIC: Good copy, Bravo 1.
HAVOC, we have a problem.
Big one.
FSO is gone.
I say again, our objective is gone.
