The Glee Project (2011) s02e03 Episode Script
Vulnerability
1 - Here's what you missed on the glee project: Last week's big group number Was almost a dance-ability disaster.
- That was absolutely horrible.
- But on the brighter side, Blake, michael, and jenna Have yet to make a single mistake, And eileen turned things around When she proved to the mentors That her fun, flirty personality is back.
- Not disappointed at all.
- Tyler had to perform for ryan for the second week in a row, Because he couldn't get out of his own head enough To move his feet.
Lily's sass put her ass in the bottom three.
- If you're always thinking about the next quip, You're not hearing anything that's being said.
- But in the end, it was dani that was sent home.
Now 11 contenders remain To compete for a guest-starring role on glee, And that's all you need to know so far on - You always drink everything like this.
You look like a little-- sweet little mouse.
You're, like, "ooh, I'm gonna drink my coffee now.
" - Hey, guys.
- Hey, robert.
- Come on over.
- Yay! - I'm here to tell you the theme for this week, And it's a big one.
It's something that's crucial for any performer, But particularly for someone that wants to be on glee.
- Oh, god, this is gonna be deep.
- It is Vulnerability.
[cheers and applause.]
You're happy? - Whoo! - I don't have a whole lot of experience being vulnerable.
I mean, obviously, I'm still young.
I think that it's gonna be A really big challenge for me this week.
- So this week's homework assignment is Kelly clarkson's my life would suck without you.
- Oh, I love that song.
- Ooh.
[mimicking quick rhythm.]
You know? - Tomorrow you'll perform for me And an amazing guest from glee.
- Oh, my god.
- Someone who could write the book on vulnerability.
- Oh, man, chris colfer wrote a book.
- It's up to you guys to decide who gets what part, And really dig deep.
This is gonna be a very, very challenging week for all of you.
Good luck.
- Thank you.
- Bye bye.
- Okay, I guess we should get started.
Um, all right.
- Number one: "guess this means you're sorry.
" My goal for this week Is to just keep doing what I've been doing And make sure to bring my personality to everything.
- My picks are between 11 and 3.
Michael already said three, but-- - Mario, you can have it.
- Well, I wanted to see about 11 first.
- Didn't you want number 3, though? It's yours.
- I'm double-checking That the others ones were go-- what is wrong with y'all? - Okay, well, while you ponder upon that one-- - Okay, I'll take three.
- Okay.
- Oh, my god.
- Six, me.
- I really want it too.
Whatever.
- Is there another one that you want or? - Not really.
- So we're at a standstill.
- Since I've been in the bottom three, My competitive edge is definitelyArising.
- Shocker.
- Stay friends.
- This is nothing personal.
- Lily is just rubbing me the wrong way.
The last thing I need is lily Giving me attitude over something.
It's just getting on my nerves.
Fine, jesus, take it.
Done.
[school bell ringing.]
- So are you guys ready to perform For this week's guest? All: Yes.
- I hope so, because this is Someone I know you'll really want to impress.
In my opinion, probably the most accessible actor on the show.
- The suspense! - My palms are sweating.
- Hi.
[cheering and shrieking.]
- Holy-- - Cory! - I was not expecting that.
- Really? - Hi.
- Cory monteith is A lot more attractive in person than I thought.
- Wow.
[laughter.]
- This is cory monteith, who plays finn hudson on glee.
- Nice to meet you.
- Nice to meet you too.
- So vulnerability.
It's a very challenging homework assignment this week.
You have to tap into what makes you feel uncomfortable As a person so that you can bring that to the role, If it's real for you, it's gonna be real for the audience.
If you're experiencing something that's important to you, That's a personal experience, That's gonna come across the camera.
Well, ys, let's see what you got.
[claps hands.]
- Whoo! [drill whistle blows.]
All: la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la - I guess this means you're sorry - you're standing at my door - I guess this means you take back - all you said before - like how much you wanted - anyone but me - said you'd never come back - but here you are again - 'cause we belong together now yeah - forever united here somehow yeah - you got a piece of me and honestly All: my life, my life would suck, would suck without you because we belong together now yeah forever united here somehow yeah you got a piece of me and honestly my life, my life would suck, would suck without you [applause.]
- That was incredible, you guys.
- Wow.
That was a great performance, you guys.
Nice work.
- Good job.
- Abraham, your voice was fantastic, But I think you're really reaching for the emotion.
- Lily.
- Yes.
- Your voice sounded great, But there was, like, a hand gesture - Hair pull.
- With your hair.
It felt like it was taking us away from the vulnerabilit And bringing it to a sexy place.
- Okay.
- Ali In the future, I think you could push less.
- You sound incredible.
You just have to work on just keeping it simple.
- Toning down my face is definitely something That I struggle with, Because I come from a theatrical background.
- Shanna, truthful performance.
You connected right here.
- Thank you.
- Nellie, you got the high note.
That was hard, And there was an intensity to what you were doing.
And you sounded fantastic.
Good work.
- Okay, cory, so who are you picking As this week's homework winner? - In the end The winner Is Nellie.
- Whoa.
Okay.
[laughter applause.]
Thank you.
That's awesome, thank you.
To actually win the homework assignment feels amazing.
I was sure that everyone else was doing a better job than me.
- Congratulations, nellie.
That means you're gonna have A one-on-one mentoring session with cory, As well as a step-out moment in the big group number, Which is - Which is everybody hurts, r.
E.
M.
[knowing oohs.]
- The concept of the music video centers around teen bullying.
There's no choreography session this week, So instead, erik will be along later to talk with you guys About your own personal experiences with bullying.
- Well, thanks for having me.
Goodbye.
- Thank you.
- Good luck.
And nellie, I'll see you soon.
- Thank you.
[applause.]
- Good job, you guys.
[school bell rings.]
- Does everyone like their lines? - Yes.
- I love mine.
- Oh, hey, erik.
- What's up? What's going on in here? So last week was crazy, huh? - Oh, yeah.
- Yeah.
- This week is gonna be a little bit more serious.
You know, this week is about bullying.
Right now, it's an epidemic.
Right now, it's really out of control.
So I want this video to really resonate with kids, And I want you to think about instances When you felt out of place, when you felt picked on, When you felt insecure.
I need to see that on the camera.
I want to have different vignettes Of you guys getting bullied, And I really want it to be honest.
Let's talk about it.
How was it growing up for you? - Um, well, as a half-black, jewish, trans person, You know, there's no one There's no one else around that's like me.
So I kind of isolated myself from everyone Because there was just no place.
- What do you think, shanna? - [sighs, chuckles nervously.]
I was really, really bullied in school.
I found out about my mom being involved in drugs From this group of girls in school.
They would taunt me and say, like, "don't hang out with her, she's a crack baby.
" [sniffling.]
- It's not even about physical bullying.
Words are so strong.
What's up, abraham? - I'm a straight asian man that happened To grow up with, like, two women, So, um, I always, like, took on a lot of female attributes That are considered, lik "feminine," you know? I don't even know how little kids know this word, But they would be like, "oh, my god, you fag.
" - Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Has anyone, like, seen someone getting picked on And you just didn't do anything about it? 'cause that's just as bad.
What's up, blake? - Yeah, no, I was bullied a lot in junior high.
I was, like, this short kid, and I was, like, super skinny.
When high school came around, this one time, This kid was getting picked on in the stairwell.
He's just getting nailed on.
He was just getting hit.
And I walk in, and I'm, like, Thinking in my mind, like, "stop.
" But I'm just feeling weak.
I walked off.
And I was just so pissed off at myself.
Yeah, no, I wanted to be the guy That I wished that I had around when I was a kid.
- Blake is so nice to everybody, And to see that one instance tore him uinside forever It's, like, so--it just, like, ugh, hurts to see.
- Middle school, I was the bully.
Yeah, I was the queen bee in middle school.
In sixth grade and seventh grade, it got really bad.
I remember telling a girl That if she messed with me or my friends, Her life would be a living hell.
And then, I remember in eighth grade Watching mean girls And being like, "oh, my god, that's me.
" And, um, I remember I called that girl And apologized and--and-- 'cause I realized what I had done, And, like, how awful that must have felt.
- Lily's story is just super powerful.
It was just as strong as hearing someone who was bullied, Because you're hearing about someone with a fault That they had and how they overcame it.
- All right, thank you, everybody, for sharing with me.
I have a very good idea what I'm going to do.
This is gonna be a good video.
- It's gonna be intense.
- I'll see you guys in the shoot.
- Thank you.
- I think erik wanted us to have this conversation Because he wanted us to feel those things again, And I think all of us now have found the places Where we need to be for the video.
- Up next - [grunting.]
- Blake is scary as hell.
- I got this, man.
- Wait, wait, wait, wait, cut.
- Oh, my god.
Oh, my god! - What the [bleep.]
are you gonna do, [bleep.]
? - Vocaks with Nikki - - Hi.
- Hi.
The big group number of the week is everybody hurts by r.
E.
M.
, And the theme of the week is vulnerability.
- 'cause everybody hurts - Love.
- don't throw your hand - It's really good.
- when the day is long In everyday life, I'm not necessarily The kind of person who, like, digs deep, But I think that the mentoring session with cory monteith Is gonna help me a lot.
- So the role you're gonna have to play Specifically for the song is You're somebody who's being bullied.
When we're shooting glee, if it's an emotional scene, I think about stuff with my family, Like my parents's divorce.
What, from your personal experience, You know, do you want to draw on? - Yesterday was actually the ten-year anniversary Of the death of my sister.
Just to have that day where you're kind of, like, In that place too, was kind of Interesting for this whole thing.
- You get that feeling in your stomach And you want to run away And you want to whatever it is.
You have to get yourself to that place.
You have to feel it.
- Just try to--almost like you're talking to somebody.
- Okay.
the night is yours alone - That--sweet, that was awesome.
- and you're sure you've had enough - Are you doing okay? - I don't know, I'm good at, likeKeeping it professional And keeping it, like, positive and happy.
- It's good to be positive, But if you can't access the real, then Ali was Not great today.
- [sighs.]
- That's what we need to hear, Is that[sighs.]
- okay.
when you're sure you've had enough - Life isn't always just cheery and happy and positive.
It's okay for her to dive into a sad place for a moment.
There's ali.
- Thank you.
[exhales heavily.]
- when your day is night alone - On a technical level, Your "day" is just a little under.
Is it a little high? - No, I can do it.
I think I deliver exactly what she's asking for.
It may take a few takes, But none of the greats go in the studio And get things done in the first take.
- Yeah, just reach for it.
You're just a little flat.
- Um - I don't know, are you struggling With the emotion of the week? - I don't think I'm struggling In terms of the performances.
I think I'm managing it.
- Let's do another one with that extra breath support So we can get up to the note better.
He's just having a hard time pitch-wise even.
- when you think you've had too much of this life - That was so good.
- Thank you.
- I don't think I've ever seen you Be sensitive and serious like this.
- Because of being bullied, I've definitely put up a tough wall.
I was pretty much, like, One of the only muslim people in our school, So I got called "terrorist" a lot.
- I mean, if you're feeling emotional, It's making me feel emotional.
That was gorgeous.
- [sighs in relief.]
- Thanks for ending the song.
- Hey.
- Hey.
[exhales.]
- aww.
- This week, I need to just let myself feel And take things in, Instead of putting up my walls And acting like nothing bothers me.
- Just put it all out there.
It's all you can do.
- That's the point.
- "EVERYBODY HURTS" - - Video Shoot - - Camera's gonna be here, looking at you guys.
- This is a difficult assignment on so many levels, Because the kids have to open up and be vulnerable And show their feelings, And then also, the contenders are gonna have to really act.
- So, nellie, you're gonna sing this double time.
- Okay.
- Did you see the mad world video from last year? - Yes.
- It was, like, slow-motion, But it was in sync.
That's what we're gonna do.
Action.
- when the day is long - He's really doing well, michael.
- Mm-hmm.
- and the night is yours alone - Look at ali.
- Ali is a monster.
- Look at her.
- Cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, cut.
- I don't know if the bullies overshadowed nellie Or if they just made it a really good scene.
Did I notice the bullies as much as her? Yes.
And is that a good thing? I don't know.
- Lily mae, try singing it, Really singing it.
- AndPlayback.
- Oh, my gosh.
[derisive laughter.]
- Too far, lily.
Everyone knows.
- Everybody knows, you slutbag whore.
[laughs.]
- cut, cut.
Cut.
One more time.
Just gotta get that sync, lily mae.
- The sync? - Just gotta see you, like - Okay.
- Just nail it, right in the camera.
- Okay.
- Ready? - Action.
[music playing double time.]
[mocking laughter, indistinct chatter.]
Cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, cut.
We've still got to get that "you're not alone.
" It seems like you're missing the "you're" part.
- Okay.
Can they be more quiet? I'm just kind of getting distracted.
It's really hard to lip-sync And then still keep my focus in my emotions And my objective in the scene.
- Shanna and mario were appropriately nasty bullies.
- Everything is not her fault.
- Yeah.
- Think we have to keep that into account.
- Yeah.
- She can't lip-sync.
- Relax, okay? Relax.
- And action.
- Was this the guy you've been talking to? - Yeah.
- Whoa, dude, come on.
- T out of my face.
- Stop, stop, I said okay.
I said okay! - Blake is scary as hell.
- Blake is the best actor of the group.
I think michael's becoming a very good actor.
- Mm-hmm.
- He's learning quickly, Considering he's never acted.
- Oh, my god, blake looks like he's gonna kill him.
I think blake might be sayinstuff That's actually really getting to michael.
That's what I need too.
- Excellent job.
That was good.
- That was good, you guys.
- So, you guys, mario's walking along this fence, And you guys are maybe four steps behind him, Talking about how you're gonna, like, kick his ass.
You're in there too, charlie.
- Cool.
I would consider myself to be a pretty seasoned actor.
To make me a good bully, I have to somehow find a way To find joy in what I'm doing.
[exhales heavily.]
- It's intense.
- I can't imagine what it feels like For mario right now.
- Oh, my god.
- Just walking behind him and talking [bleep.]
.
And action.
- Let's see how good you are without your cane.
Yo, [bleep.]
.
I got this, man.
- Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, cut! So I didn't say to do that.
- Dude got real.
- Well, that was scary.
- No, I don't-- I didn't like that at all.
- Erik didn't request for the cane to be taken, So, when it happened, it was really rather startling.
- Yeah, I don't like watching this.
[sighs.]
- The first take with charlie - Uh-huh.
- When he grabbed the cane.
- Was he supposed to? - Grab the cane? - Yeah.
- No, he did that on his own.
- So unacceptable.
- Could have been dangerous.
- You okay? - To me, it was just a scene rehearsal And I had made a wrong blocking choice.
Yeah, I'm all right.
But I think I can tell the mentors are disappointed.
[sighs.]
- I know.
- I suck.
- Tyler, let me see you looking at camera.
Yeah, like that.
- The music video shoot is going well.
- sometimes everything is wrong - It's tough for everyone.
- I like the energy.
Cut, cut, cut.
- It's sad and difficult to watch, but it's effective.
- Yes, abraham.
- I'm impressed.
- And I believe it more than anything he's done ever.
- Cut.
That's good.
So, lily mae, I want you to be the bully that you were.
I want that to come out here.
Roll it.
- What the [bleep.]
are you gonna do, huh? - Whoa.
- [bleep.]
.
What, are you gonna terrorize me? Huh? - Whoa! - Huh? What are you gonna do, come over to my house? - Oh, my god, oh, my god.
- What the [bleep.]
are you gonna do, [bleep.]
? You muslim [bleep.]
! - Cut it, cut it, cut it, cut it! - [sobbing.]
- aylin is shocking.
- Oh, absolutely.
While lily wasn't necessarily the most convincing As being bullied, she is 100% convincing in this moment.
- Last one.
- Boom up.
- What are you gonna do? Huh, huh? - I think the kids today really rose to the occasion.
But now it's gonna be really telling As to whose honest emotions Truly translate to the screen.
- Cut.
That's it.
Good job.
- [nervous laughter.]
- excellent.
Yeah, we got it.
- And marker.
Here we go.
And cue playback, please.
[slow guitar music.]
- when your day is long and the night the night is yours alone - when you're sure you've had enough of this life well, hang on - don't let yourself go 'cause everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes All: hold on - sometimes everything is wrong - when your day is night alone just hold on - if you feel like letting go - 'cause everybody hurts take comfort in your friends - everybody hurts - don't throw your hand oh, no don't throw your hand if you feel like you're alone no, no, no you're not alone - when you think you've had too much of this life to hang on All: hold on hold on hold on - when you think you've had too much All: hold on - when you think you've had too much All: hold on when you think you've had too much hold on - Give yourselves a round of applause, Because that is a wrap.
[cheers and applause.]
Good job.
- Up next - I don't ever want to, like, make a fool of myself.
- And just so there's no confusion here, Not one of you is ready yet.
It's time to talk about who will be preforming For ryan tonight.
This week, we asked you to focus on bringing vulnerability Into your performances.
So, blake, it was unanimous among the three of us That you hit it out of the park this week.
- Oh, man.
- Your acting was really, really good, So, blake, you're called back for next week.
- Thank you.
Knowing that I got called back first Makes me feel like I'm on the right track.
- [sighs.]
- We really had to go through every aspect Of your work this week To pick three people to do last chance performances.
Some of you really took to the theme And others struggled, so Abraham, michael, Shanna, aylin, tyler.
Those of you whose names I just called, You're all on the callback list.
- Thanks.
- Thank you! - [satisfied sigh.]
- I am the happiest person in the world That I'm not in the bottom three.
- So that means nellie, lily, mario, Ali, charlie, Three of you will be performing for ryan tonight.
- Nellie, you were the homework winner, And you sounded amazing on that track.
You just need to commit a little more.
- My biggest thing has always been, like, improv situations.
I get really embarrassed.
- Well, that's what it seems like.
- I don't like practicing in front of people.
- I don't like doing, like, intimate - Hmm.
- I don't ever want to, like, make a fool of myself.
- You have to feel like you can make a fool of yourself.
That's the whole thing.
Lily, when it came to the lip-syncing, The other contenders were being very loud, And that would be difficult.
In the future, you may be in a situation Where they're unable to stop Or where the director wants them to continue.
And so that's something to learn.
- Charlie, I know erik had a hard time With you following direction.
So, the first take, you were told to do what you did.
- To walk behind him, yes.
- And in the first take, you did not.
- I did not.
I took his cane.
- Do you realize how Not only dangerous that is, but disrespectful that is To the people you're in the scene with? - The word "dangerous" had not crossed my mind, And I apologize to you, mario.
- So, ali, in the homework assignment, Cory commented that you again Were just a little big in your face.
- One thing I noticed in the studio Is that you're so used to being perky And keeping it positive that sometimes It takes a while to strip that all back And get that raw performance.
Mario, unfortunately, in the recording studio with me, For some reason, your pitch is almost always under.
Do you have any idea why you struggle with that? - I typically don't struggle with it.
- I just think maybe you need to retrain Your muscle memory to get there.
- That would suggest that I amNot ready.
I've been classically trained.
- And just so there's no confusion here, Not one of you is ready yet.
This is why you're here.
This is why it's called the glee project.
This is not just a competition, This is also a boot camp.
This is a chance for you to learn And to grow, and I think, if you're open to it, Then, by the end, you will be ready.
- I know, I don't mean ready as far as the bigger picture.
I mean, if someone has pitch issues, I mean, that they're just not ready to sing Or that they're too zealous.
That's what I was speaking to.
- All of you have work to do, But only three of you have to perform for ryan.
- Charlie, I'm sorry, But you will be performing for ryan tonight.
- Mario, you will also be performing for ryan tonight.
- Ali, you're on the callback list.
- [relieved sigh.]
thank god.
- Thank you.
- Nellie You're on the callback list as well.
- Thank you.
- Lily, that means you'll also Be performing for ryan tonight.
- I am pissed about being in the bottom three.
- Okay, let's talk about what you're gonna sing.
Lily, your song is mercy by duffy.
- Oh.
- Have you sung it before? - No.
- Have you heard it before? - Yeah.
- Okay, mario, your song is over the rainbow.
- I'm thankful for that option.
- Charlie, your song is fix you by coldplay.
- Awesome.
Ah, awesome! - So I guess you do know the song.
- Oh, I love that song.
- Okay.
I think you should get started practicing.
- You have two hours to rehearse.
Good luck, guys.
- This song definitely does relate to my current situation.
I do feel like this week left me a little bit broken, But I'm gonna have to get there one way or another.
- once in a lullaby [sighs.]
this is a huge wake-up call.
To say that I am shaking in my boots right now Would be a complete understatement.
[vocalizing.]
Whether I leave or stay, I gotta leave on The highest note that mario bonds could possibly leave on.
- I don't know what you do but you do it well I'm under your spell I'm really upset.
I think I did really well in the big group number, And for some reason, the mentors didn't see that.
[sighs.]
- You gotta get your nerves under control, man.
- up next.
- The reason I'm worried about you Is because the show is about underdogs And you are not an underdog.
We don't want to be a damn karaoke show.
What's happening with you right now? - End of the season, I thought.
- It was during the last [laughter.]
- stop! - No! - I'm really nice guy and charlie is my partner in crime.
Justice! People arguing about who's using the bathroom, Who has dibs on the leftover pasta - Oh, my god.
- You know, we're tired of hearing it, And somebody's got to take a stand, And we're the ones to do it.
- Let's go.
- [humming upbeat tune.]
[laughter.]
- Really nice guy? - That's what it's come to? - So this week was vulnerability, And unlike last week, the dance-ability, This week they all rose to the occasion.
So when we were making the decisions, We had to really take a lot more into consideration, Like, really take the recording studio into consideration.
- Well, who are we seeing first? - Lily is first.
And lily was good this week In the fact that she portrayed vulnerability well, But hers was mainly more technical problems.
She was having a problem lip synching.
- And speaking of which.
- I'm lily mae harrington, and I will be singing Mercy by duffy.
yeah yeah yeah I love you but I got to stay true I don't know what you do but you do it well I'm under your spell you got me begging you for mercy why won't you release me? you got me begging you for mercy why won't you release me? and I said release me now you think that I am just something on the side but you got to understand that I need a man who can hold my hand and I said release me [applause.]
- Good, lily.
So again, you're very talented.
I get that you're sexy, and you love boys.
And you know your way around a sassy line.
But the reason I'm worried about you Is because the show is about underdogs.
And you are not an underdog.
But it's weird for me, because it's the thing That I like about you-- I like that you're ballsy and you're bold.
- That's not all I can do, though.
- Okay, well, I haven't seen anything but that.
- I feel like my strongest things are ballads.
And so far, you've seen me do Big, upbeat, flashy numbers.
- Which I like, but then I was like, "okay, what else?" - But I feel like me as a performer is not that.
Me as a performer is-- [crying.]
is my heart on the stage, And--and my voice just there with a piano.
And I feel like I haven't gotten to show you that yet.
And I know I can show you more, I know I can.
I just--I think I just put on this-- This face that's-- "I'm great, "and you can all suck it because I'm 240 pounds, But I don't give a [bleep.]
.
" And-- - Listen, I think that you are really a star.
And I think it's sort of great That you're so vulnerable right now Because I never saw this side of you, And I think that it's a beautiful thing.
I think you did what you needed to do today.
I'm proud of you.
And you look fantastic.
- I love you.
I love you, ryan murphy.
More than I ever thought I would.
- Oh, stop.
[laughter.]
You're very sweet.
Thank you.
Bye.
- That was the first time we've seen lily.
- Yeah, I've never seen that girl.
- So next up is charlie and the reason That he's here is when he was playing the bully, He made kind of odd choices.
- Hi, charlie.
- Hi, guys.
- What are you singin'? - I'm singing fix you by coldplay.
- I love coldplay.
- when you try your best but you don't succeed when you get what you want but not what you need and the tears come streaming down your face I will try to fix you the tears stream down your face I promise I will learn from my mistakes and tears stream down, down your face and I whoa, I and I will try to fix you [applause.]
- Charlie, charlie, charlie.
You started singing, and I was, like, "uh--what?" I was so unsure of where you were going, Almost every note and every note, I was like, "okay, thank god.
Thank god.
" And that's what the show needs, Because we don't want to be a damn karaoke show.
And I was very inspired by what you did for me.
- Thank you so much.
- So good for you.
The thing that was interesting to me Talking to everybody about your week-- You had an incident this week When you were shooting the video Where you seemed to have a little bit Of a boundary problem.
Can you talk about that? - Yeah, in a moment of impulsivity, I just got up into my own head, And it was just us on a stage rehearsing a scene.
And I think that that-- the medium of tv is something That I am still very much not used to.
I'm used to this.
I'm used to all this.
- Yeah.
You seem to me to be somebody who will always Be inclined to go for the brave choice.
- Yes.
- But I think with actors, Sometimes that's not the right way to be, But at the end of the day, I'm thrilled that you were in the bottom three Because I got to know you, and I got to love you more.
Thanks, charlie.
- Thank you, ryan.
I could not have loved him more.
Maybe my favorite thing I've ever seen on this show.
- Mario is next.
Mario is here because of the recording studio.
- And when giving him just some feedback, He got very defensive and took it as a personal attack.
- Hey, mario.
- Hi, mario.
What are you singing? - I'm singing somewhere over the rainbow for you, sir.
some day I wish upon a star twake up where the clouds are far behind when your troubles melt like lemon drops up above the chimney tops that's where that's where you'll find me I'll be somewhere over the rainbow way up high there's a land that I dreamed of once in a lullaby someday I'll wish upon a star I wake up where the clouds are behind me if, if birds fly why can't I? [applause.]
- Very good, mario, as always.
I want to talk about you in the recording studio.
And how you feel that went.
- Sometimes when I have a lot of electronic noise Flooding through my ears, I do think that sometimes I can be a little off.
- When nikki gives you a note, And your reaction is, "I am classically trained," Do you really think that's going to help you? To say that, to be so defensive? - Oh, no, sir.
I thought that I needed to let her know That, "hey, I'm not a hopeless case.
" - As a singer, you're beautifully gifted.
But when you're in the studio, That's when you struggle.
And that happens to a lot of people.
- What's happening with you right now? What are you feeling? - I completely understand what you're saying.
I completely understand it.
- It's the way that you talk And the way that you maybe convey your feelings.
That's not what you feel in your heart, But that's what they hear.
Does that make sense? - Yes, sir.
I am a very sensitive guy.
I wear my feelings on my sleeve.
So I'm hopeful for another opportunity To show you guys that the assessment That I have left--left you guys with is not correct.
- But we get that now.
It's good, we get it.
I think people like me right now Would be very inspired by not just your talent But how much you have a need to express the talent.
I thought you did great.
- Thank you, sir.
I apologize to nikki as well.
- Thank you.
- This is the most intense bottom three ever.
- Very intense.
- I think that every girl in america Would relate to her story.
- I do too.
- And I didn't think that till she broke down.
- I think it's funny How ryan thought that I was, like, this tough bitch, But, like, I cried.
Everything.
- And I think he's a little talky, And a little-- um, intellectual, But I do find that I hung on every word.
And I think the thing that he was in the bottom three for-- I don't think he would do again.
- At the end of the day, It is basically ryan's show, you know? I just got to trust that ryan murphy likes me, Which I think he genuinely does.
- And then, mario comes out, And I think he's so moving.
- I wanted to say to nikki, "wait a second, there were several voices "that I heard on there that were off-pitch, So why on earth--" - [clears throat.]
So I'm like, "why on earth am I in the bottom three?" Well, I think--I think-- I think that you guys aren't taking my feelings into account.
- The thing is, mario, you make us listen to you, And you never listen to anything that we say.
- Half of the time, I can hardly be heard.
- Are you kidding me? - This really wasn't brought up to be a big deal.
- Okay, mario, this is something we want you to understand.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
Let me finish.
Sometimes when you say things, And trust me, I'm in the same boat as you, It comes off differently.
- Here's what--I'm going to need you to understand.
I'm offended by the way-- What I said is being misunderstood.
So I really don't want to talk about it anymore.
- Who would you send home? - I'm not there yet.
- I know what I think.
- Really? - Yeah.
- Oh, this is good.
- I do too.
- Hey.
This has been a really emotional week.
But the list is up, So go take a look.
- [crying.]
- [singsong.]
you're gonna miss me.
- I know.
- You know something? I'll miss you too.
- [inhales.]
- This is crazy.
- I don't really have any regrets after the performance.
I felt like I went out there, I did the best I could.
- I showed him that vulnerable side That he wanted to see.
At this point, it's in their hands.
- Walking toward the list, I'm so afraid That I'm going to go home, So I'm extremely afraid to get there.
- [laughs.]
- [sobbing.]
- What? Oh, my god! [screams.]
- Oh, god.
That is so great.
- We all get to stay.
- [screams.]
- Somebody cue the celestial choirs.
There is still 11 of us, And we get to spend another week together.
Yes.
- Hug.
- This is real life right now.
- [screams.]
- I'm so relieved to be back.
I'm so happy to be back.
I feel like I've gotten a second lease on life here.
- there's nothing you can say there's nothing you can do there's no other way when it comes to the truth keep holding on, 'Cause you know we'll make it through, we'll make it through welcome to sex - and what does he smiling at? what's going on in there? - are you ok michel? - yeah - oh, my god.
- don't be watching the show, - you are the show.
- you are here.
this is what is going to be no
- That was absolutely horrible.
