The World's Most Amazing Vacation Rentals (2021) s02e03 Episode Script

Cabin Life

Get excited! When you think of a cabin,
what do you think of?
- Socks, furry socks.
- Big fireplace.
I think you have to be cozy in nature
and with some sort of wood and fire.
Also around good people.
You're usually off the grid, there's no
service. You gotta like who you go with.
- Yes.
- Yes.
When it comes to vacation rentals,
there's nothing cozier
than a cabin retreat.
Whether you're looking
for something outdoorsy,
something romantic
or something family friendly,
there are thousands
of stunning cabins to rent.
In this episode, we'll be visiting three.
We start at this cozy cabin
here in Sonoma, California.
To this beautiful Great Camp
here in the Adirondacks.
To this luxury cabin
here in Telluride, Colorado.
Okay, we just landed in San Francisco.
We're on our way to Sonoma.
- You know what that means!
- Lots and lots of wine!
- And a cabin in the woods.
- Let's go!
Look how huge these trees are!
I'm glad we're starting here because
Sonoma County redwoods are incredible.
Like, I've always wanted
to actually see the redwoods.
And if that wasn't already enough,
wine country!
Wine!
Look at look at this!
So she picked a budget property
so we can splurge on the wine.
- She gets it!
- My kind of trip!
Yeah, save on beds,
splurge on experiences.
For my budget property, I found
a charming cabin in the perfect location.
Two hours from San Francisco,
nestled in the redwoods.
It's ten minutes from the California coast
and 20 minutes from wineries.
You got woods, you got waves,
and you got wine.
There's a Danish word called hygge.
And it's basically like cozy on steroids.
It's also a super popular
design style right now,
and you can tell this is exactly how
the homeowner designed this cabin.
It's a mindset. It's just taking joy
in the small things, everyday life things.
All weekend, that is our mission, okay?
And we're here!
Look at our little house!
Whoo!
How cute is this?
Built in 1967,
the Sequoia House is a rustic,
800-square-foot mid-century gem
with two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
And if you need more space,
they offer a 16-foot Airstream.
In total, it has room for six people
and starts at $300 per night.
This is my type of cabin
'cause it's the cabin life,
but with modern aesthetics.
Do you see the sunlight peering through?
- Ooh! Wow!
- From right here.
Do you think
we could all hug it at the same time?
- Oh, my God, we can reach! Wow!
- Uh-huh.
My angle is incredible!
I've never had an arrival like that.
Oh, nice sauna.
Now this is an amenity.
This is a beautiful barrel sauna.
This is unexpected. This is
a budget property with luxury amenities.
- A little twist.
- What's up?
- I feel like everything's gonna be okay.
- Madame, after you.
Ooh!
Ooh!
Don't you just feel
like you just put a sweater on?
Every inch of interior design
of this cabin
is about the comfortable hygge aesthetic.
Wow!
Look at all of these little rugs
and furs and sheepskins.
I can touch, like, five different textures
sitting in one place.
It has a '70s vibe to it.
Wow! So is this technically an A-frame?
It's not because the lines of the roof
would have to touch the ground,
but it does have the philosophy
of an A-frame
because the way that they divide
the space is really smart.
- Wow!
- This is sweet!
Oh, my God!
Damn,
there's even a blanket on the wall!
It's really cozy.
The mood in here is
"I'm gonna sleep till the end of time."
You guys look like you're in a dream.
- I'll take this room though.
- Okay.
Wow, okay. I see how you guys operate.
- Wow.
- This is a log cabin right here.
Ooh, this is a mood!
This is so cute!
This is, like but it's, like, cute,
but then it's sexy at the same time.
It does have a really Scandinavian feel
when you look
at all the mid-century furniture.
This is amazing.
You know, from here,
I can see the redwood forest.
It's beautiful.
I think this should be my room.
I think you should go outside
to the Airstream.
Okay, here's the RV.
This is the addition.
They let people staying at the cabin
rent this for another $100
if you want more beds or space.
Wow!
River views!
Nice little cliff here.
This is adorable.
- Cute!
- So nice little light.
You have a beautiful trailer
with a nice kitchenette
and a nice bathroom and a toilet.
This is such a great business move.
The owner makes an extra $100 a night
for very little investment.
And you have a little cute
conversation going.
- Oh, my God!
- Come here!
- This is nice.
- This is way bigger than I
- Oh!
- Sorry! Sorry! I'm sorry.
There goes our deposit!
Why are you breaking my room?
The hygge philosophy is creating
the feeling of coziness and contentment
evoked by simple comforts.
Things that settle you down
and bring you joy.
I want us to embrace this feeling
at max capacity.
So I packed a special surprise
to add a layer of coziness to our stay.
- Ready?
- No, I'm not. Hold on. What's happening?
As you know, hygge is all about
really indulging in the small things.
This is like a meditation tape, damn.
Open your eyes.
- Can I?
- Yes.
Pajamas and slippers!
Oh, thank you.

What is wrong with you?
Okay, when I generally think of cabins,
I think small and warm.
And this cabin delivers on all of those.
As you can see, it's only 800 square feet,
but what they did
with that 800 square feet
makes this place look enormous.
They put floor-to-ceiling windows in here
that makes this place feel
three times the size that it is.
It enhances the redwoods,
I feel like I'm outside
but still being inside,
and it invites me to use and be in nature.
I love it! This is a cabin!
You know these type of remote cabins
are among the hottest trends
in the short-term rental markets today,
and here's why.
According to vacation rental data,
35% of searches are just for two guests,
and rustic cabins
can offer a great solution
if they're looking
for a small remote stay.
In fact, cabins are globally one
of the fastest growing property types
being wish-listed by travelers
all over the world.
Okay, so what's our first stop?
First stop is Fort Ross-Seaview.
So we're gonna head out there right now.
We're gonna go along the Russian River.
We're gonna hit the coast.
If you go to wine country in general,
Napa or Sonoma, you have to have the wine.
Yep.
We're now
putting our budget toward
an incredible wine-tasting experience
on a vineyard tour with a winery owner.
It's called Pinot Noir
because Pinot Noir mean "small black."
And then there's small, black grapes.
How many grapes do you need
to make one bottle of wine?
You get about two bottles
off a vine, if you're lucky.
And tastings at a wine cellar,
featuring all of the local wine.
- Wow, that's deliciously smooth.
- Mmm!
All of this within 20 minutes
of our cabin.

This cabin we're about to see is unique
because it's one of the Great Camps.

It's how the richest of the rich
used to camp in the late 1800s.

about a kind of travel
that I like to call "phenomena travel."
It's when you go to a place
and experience
the thing that's very fleeting.
So here's a little travel tip.
Do some research and go to a place
that has a phenomenon.
Maybe you wanna see
the northern lights in Finland
or the Japanese cherry blossoms.
Who knows?
You might even find a place
you never thought you'd go
and see something beautiful.
Before the end of our trip,
I have one more amenity
to show the girls
that is out of this world,
literally out of this world.
- Is this a part of the property?
- Whoa.
Yes, it is.
As a new luxury rental,
the management has arranged for us
to enjoy this one-of-a-kind
astronomy experience,
known as a "star party."
Step up into the future.
All right, so let's start the star party.
I never thought that I would operate
a private observatory dome
With a glass of wine.
- Glass of wine at a star party. Cheers!
- Yep, star party.
I am seeing Jupiter.
And I see the two famous brown marks
that go around Jupiter.
This is crazy!
Jupiter's, like, 700,000,
800,000 miles in diameter.
- Oh, my God.
- Earth's 8,000, so
You know what Saturn looks like?
What?
It looks insane. To Saturn.
- To Saturn. To star parties.
- To star party. All right.
Cheers to this great cabin in Telluride.
What a life.
Cabin life was everything and more.
With all three of the cabins,
we were immersed in nature.
This is insane!
By far, the best bonding experience
and vibe was at the Sequoia House.
But for my favorite property,
I'm going to choose Camp Rush.
Pa Gomo was easily
the most beautiful design,
but my favorite cabin was Camp Rush.
My favorite place
was definitely Camp Rush.
It's just so naturally beautiful.
Everything about it was very special.
This is a place
I certainly see myself coming back to.
