And tonight The Wizard Wars! American magic creators The Vanishing Shark! face off against a team from Canada Bubbles! but the magic takes a hilarious turn Welcome to our little nightmare.

Hey, everyone, I'm Ellen Fox, and welcome to "Wizard Wars.
" "Wizard Wars" is all about challenging magicians to conjure up creative magic routines using everyday objects.
The results can be mind-blowing, so let's get to it.
First, let's introduce our judges.
Please welcome Penn & Teller, Christen Gerhart, and Jason Latimer.
Now it's time to meet our challengers.
The first was raised in the UK and performs all over the world, Matt Johnson.
In the world of magic I'm known for being a creator amongst magicians.
I'm gonna do what I do best, and that's entertain people.
Teaming up with Matt is a man who performs his unique brand of stunt magic on the biggest shows north of the border, including "Canada's Got Talent," Wes Barker.
I've been dreaming of a show like this forever, so I'm super stoked to be on it.
Any time you can showcase yourself in front of a large audience or legendary magicians is never a bad thing.
Taking on our international illusionists is a team of American magic creators, starting with a street magician whose patented tricks can be found in over 40 DVD collections, Justin Miller.
"Wizard Wars" is a good venue for me, because it's not just set with close-up magic or stage.
It's actually combining both at the same time, and that's something I really excel at.
Joining Justin is a magic mastermind with his own line of tricks.
It's Adam Wilber.
My style of magic is close-up entertainment, a lot of cards, coins.
Being on "Wizard Wars" is great, because working with everyday objects is sort of the way I create magic already.
Now here are the rules for the challenger round.
Each team will be given three of the same everyday objects that must be used at least once in a routine a flying toy shark, a bubble maker, and a briefcase full of money.
You will be judged on your creativity, deception, and showmanship.
Justin Miller and Adam Wilber are up first.
They've already built their routine, so let's see how they did it.
So, we need, like, a theme, right? - Yeah.
- It's gotta be a themed story.
- So if we do imagination - Like imagination, great.
So what about this? I was thinking, like, you can come out with kind of an imagination, all the other ideas.
You know, bubbles are kind of floating around, right? So what if you come over and, like, produce a bubble, right? So you produce a coin.
- Sick, dude.
Love it.
- Right? Yeah.
Let's see what else is in here.
Dude.
The shark.
What if we thought about light, heavy? How do we get a shark to be heavy? How do we get this to be light? Justin and Adam, it's showtime.
So what we'd like to do is bring you guys on a brief journey of imagination.
What we're gonna ask you to do as the audience is just stare at the water right here.
Focus on the water.
On three.

- Wait.
- Bubbles! Magic! Thank you! Thank you! It's like Studio 54 in here.
What's your name? - Valeria.

Will you please come up on stage? Give her a nice round of applause.

Do you have any money on you? What are you gonna do with it? Well, if you give it to me, I'll Will you multiply it? No.
That's not we're not married, and that's not so I know what I'm looking for, so don't worry.

So what I'm gonna try to do is combine two ideas into one, okay? Cool.
We're gonna take Adam's amazing idea Bubbles! with an idea I've thought of myself, okay? Check this out.
I'm gonna rip a corner off the bill.
Yeah? Hold on to that for me.
So, once again, two ideas into one.
Hopefully you can see it happen.
You can clearly see there's a corner inside that solidified bubble.
Absolutely.
And would you please verify that that matches perfectly? - Yeah.
- Yeah, good? Give her a nice round of applause.

Now as we get older, we become adults.
We have responsibilities and bills.
We have to get a job.
We have to do our day-to-day grind, you know, our nine to five.
Yeah, the rat race, and it kind of feels leaves us showing empty actually.
But some ideas turn into actual products that could make you a bunch of money.
Ooh, ooh, like the Pet Rock.
The guy! A Pet Rock! He put a rock, painted eyes on it.
Now he's a millionaire.
But that's that's not a million dollars.
There's no way that's a million dollars.
That's not a million, but, again, it's all in the way you look at things.
Oh, use your imagination.
Use your imagination, amazing things can happen.

Well, let's find out what the judges thought about their performance.
Really, really good creative thinking to think of the shark as an object to put something into instead of flying around or vanishing.
It's just a whole new way to think of that, but I wasn't convinced, and Teller maybe even less so.
When you're doing any one of those corner matching things, we're always skeptical of those.
Putting it inside a bubble, I'm not sure that everyone absolutely believed that was the same corner, and that's what you're playing for that whole trick.
But the most important part of any routine is the finish, and the finish, you absolutely nailed.
There wasn't enough cover with the flash paper for the briefcase, and I would have liked to see the money utilized a little bit more, but the bowling ball in the shark was awesome, so, overall, I really, really liked it.
I thought it was really funny.
Great job.
You don't have much time on this show, and the interaction to be able to not step on each other, but also still know a direction that you're gonna guide the audience through, that was really great.
One of the things I did like about the idea of the bill in the bubble is it's really creative, but deception is where we lose you on that one, because we can't prove that it was the right piece right away.
But I really liked the ending of having something that big being inside a balloon.
That looks very cool.

Justin Flom here, and today I'm gonna show you how to do the magic trick where you take a handkerchief, you put it into your fist, say a magical word, snap your fingers, whatever you like, and it turns into an egg.

They already worked out their routine, so let's take a peek behind the magic curtain.
So what can we do with a shark? Like we can float it.
It floats already.
We don't have to do that.
What about what about look, here, right? - There's a giant fish tank.
- Yeah.
Dude, just look at the size of this fish tank.
Let's put it this way.
I like where you're going with this.
- Is that the same size this thing? - Close.
It's golden.
You know what we do? - We just burst the shark.
- Yeah? To be honest, I think the scale of this is too big.
I think we ought to scale it way down.
I'm thinking if we scale this down, maybe like a smaller tank or a fishbowl or something, and we put the shark in there, and then it drops, and it turns into all the money.
- Excellent.
- Gonna hug it out? Sure.

Okay, so I've got this little briefcase here, and I'm just gonna go ahead and get the uh, my friend, Wes, he's a little crazy, and he's done what I was hoping he wouldn't do.
Wes? - Wes? - Hey! Dude, I can't believe you've done this.
- What? - What is that? It's a fishbowl.
Yeah, I see it's a fishbowl.
It's a rhetorical question.
Where's the cash? I spent it.
On a fishbowl? And a remote-control flying shark.
It's for us.
I bought it for us.
You're an idiot.
I left you a dollar.
We're on "Wizard Wars.
" You spent all our cash on a fishbowl and a remote-control flying shark.

And I'm gonna do a "T" on this side, and this will be for Teller.
Now here's the idea.
We're gonna take the bill, and I want you to hold on to the bill for a second.
I've also got here an envelope, and what I would like you to do is you're the eyes for everybody.
Would you confirm that the envelope is indeed completely empty? It is.
Just drop the bill in there.
I'm gonna ask you, Chris, again, you're the eyes for everybody here.
Can you see the bill inside the envelope? - Yes.
- You can? I'm just gonna keep the top of the envelope open at the fingertips.
Would you hold that above your head just at the right trajectory? I'll explain why in a second, but just hold it just about there.
Just keep it up a little bit, and that's perfect.
So here's the idea, folks.
The idea of the trick is the bill is going to leave the envelope invisibly.
The shark's gonna vanish, and the bill will be in its place inside the fishbowl.
And he's gonna do it with no sleeves.
- No, I'm not.
- Yeah, you are.
Okay, hold it.
Be careful.
It's tailored.
- Yeah, oh, yeah.
- Okay.
So here's the idea.
Keep your eyes on the bill.
Keep your eyes on the fishbowl.
Watch, watch, watch.
Here we go.
It travels through time and space, and it ends up inside the fishbowl.
- It is! - It is? No! No, just my shark, - That's all we got.
- That's still in there, huh? Yeah, and I'm actually a little happy about that.
We're gonna start again.
Take the bill out.
We'll hold it in the other hand.
So take the bill out.
Is that the bill there? You see the bill? Sorry? Uh, no, dude.
Would you hold that above your head, please? Would you also just take the envelope? Just look inside.
Is there anything inside the envelope? - No.
- It's completely empty, is it? Can I just show everybody? There's nothing, nothing inside the envelope.
Uh, Chris, there's a piece of paper.
- Yeah.
- Would you open that? We'll see what that is for a second, if you would, please.

Christen? First off, I thought it was really fun.
I would have liked to see some magic kind of right off the bat.
There was a long space of just talking and explaining.
I liked the money appearing kind of everywhere in step.
That was very cool.
I loved the light bulb.
That was really fun, and I loved that you kept it in the bag.
It kept it clean, and using that for the reveal of the signed bill was really fun.
I really did enjoy it.
Thank you very much.
I had a really hard time seeing the bowl appear.
Glass in front of black is really difficult to see.
And then I would like to have seen the shark used more than just popping it and vanishing it.
But I do love the ending.
My favorite trick was, I think, you doing the bubbles out of the mouth, 'cause I believe and this is the juggler in me and the carny trash speaking.
I think you just did that, right? I just did that, yeah.
Yeah, you just drank some bubble stuff, yeah.
'Cause we can cheer for all the skill and all the deception that we want to, but nothing beats the commitment of some nut drinking soap onstage to get a laugh.
That having been said, you know, I really wish that there had been more interaction between the two of you.
But I'm kind of nitpicking, but a wonderful job, wonderful.

It's a cool trick.
It's easy to do.
All you need is a fake egg.
It's not even a real egg.
It's a wooden egg.
Wooden eggs are hard to come by, 'cause they're laid by decoys.
This gets hidden in your palm before the audience even knows the trick has begun.
'Cause it's hidden in your palm, magicians call this palming.
Now you go, and get yourself a hanky.
A napkin will work, something like that.
Kind of wave it up and down to distract the audience from the fact that you have an egg hidden in your fist.
Pull the hanky through your fist.
It almost looks like it's empty.
And when I'm putting the hanky into my fist, it's actually going inside the egg.
Snap my fingers.
Say a magical word.
Show the audience the egg, but be very careful that you don't show them the back of the egg, or they'll see the secret.
Unless you're a wizard.

" We just saw two teams of challengers put together mind-blowing magic using the same three everyday objects.
Now it's time to find out which team won and will move on to face two of our Wizards in the "Wizard War" for a chance to win $10,000.
Penn, the judges had a chance to weigh both performances.
It's time to announce the winner.
Yes, we did.
Wes drink soap.
But that is not my final answer.
Um, you know, pretty evenly matched.
We go to the showmanship, the deception, the creativity, kind of pretty close on both sides.
But when it all comes down to judging magic, it comes down to a trick, and one good trick can make all the difference in the world.
And the bowling ball in the shark was a great trick.
Justin and Adam, we all agree.
Congratulations, Justin and Adam.
But before we find out who your competition will be, let's talk about your challenge.
Each team will be given four objects to use in a new routine, and they have a common thread.
They're all associated with everyone's favorite time of day, sleepy time.
They are a giant teddy bear, an old-fashioned alarm clock, hot chocolate with marshmallows, and footie pajamas.
All right, tonight's Wizard team will be Gregory and Billy.
Now everyone head on up to make some magic! To keep everyone entertained while the teams prepare for the Wizard War, we're in for a treat.
Shimshi is going to show us the skills that made him one of the biggest draws on the Vegas Strip.
All right, good.
So I'm gonna try show you one of my favorites.
So just say stop, and whenever you feel like it.
- Stop.

Could you sign your name on the card? This is to make sure there's only one card like this, 'cause this is truly one of the fastest illusions that I know of.

Can you see it? Mm-hmm.
Whatever you do, do not let your eyes leave my hands, because your card is going to jump all the way to the top of the deck.
It's gonna happen so fast.
Watch closely.

It is so fast, I'm actually gonna tell you exactly what's about to happen.
Before we do this, I want to add one more mark on it just in case I have a duplicate by now, 'cause this is the important part.

So kind of like what happens when magicians unwind.
We need a bed.
With the marshmallows, you know what we could do? Sign your name on that.
- Sign the marshmallow? - Yeah.

So we could have an audience member sign their name on the marshmallow.
- Okay.
- And then we have somebody hold on to the actual alarm clock.
Okay, right.
So we're gonna do something like this.

We gotta do something super creative with the bear.
The Wizards are gonna have something solid.

I thought it was great.
I mean, everything was really solid magic.
Some of the things like the cloth up was a little bit long for me for an effect, but you know, I wouldn't have expected you to bring the bear to life.
That was a great idea.
I thought it was really fun and playful.
Thought the hot chocolate was very visual.
I loved the marshmallow change, too.
I would have liked to have seen a proof with that one.
I mean, it was just it was so visual.

It was really fun.
You didn't use the alarm clock in a way that I almost lost it.
It would have been cool if it was maybe even a little bit bigger or just something else with it rather than just a vanish.

I loved the teddy bear.
I really did, and I think it's a very cool idea, cutting the hands out and then using him to do some magic, and then making him come to life at the end was very cool, and I thought that was a cool way of also incorporating the pajamas.

The nightmare thing's very cute, to have the teddy bear rip up your pajamas.

Overall, showmanship-wise, you guys were stunning.

You know, from the very beginning, I think all the judges agree that it was so clean-looking.
For some reason, I just never even thought about the marshmallows, the sponge balls.
As soon as you did it, I'm, like, that makes perfect sense.
That was a great use of creativity.
I really enjoyed it.
I don't think there's anything for us to talk about except the paper balls over the head.
Paper balls over the head is a classic magic trick that's been done by everyone, but what everybody doesn't do is put a wrinkle on it that makes it funnier.
And you added the eating the marshmallows.
I think that's something that others will do.
You've got a trick that absolutely destroys, you've got somebody who sees miracles, and then a whole audience that's in on it.
It is the perfect kind of modern American magic.
All the other stuff was done well.
All the other stuff is solid.
Your performance, your creativity, your deception is all great.
Seeing under the bed, that's all wonderful.
We could go through all of that in detail, but we don't need to, because the marshmallows over the head with you eating them was just so perfect, a combination of the best magic you've ever seen with Blue Man Group.
It was just wonderful.

Which team is the winner of tonight's Wizard War? Well, the proof that it's a difficult one is the fact that we were not unanimous.
It's because both were so good.
We just loved the your nightmare was very, very sweet.
But what we're seeing here with the challengers, Justin and Adam, the two of you interacted a little more.
You know, I'm very interested in two-person teams.
And it was nice to see you interacting that way.
And with the Wizards, there's just a little more sophistication on the part of Billy and Greg.
It seemed like just the magic chops were more together with Billy and Greg.
And I think all of that being said, we also just love the fact that there'll be people on cruise ships doing that marshmallow gag.
