Carter (2018) s02e04 Episode Script

Harley Gets an Office Job

Dave, why are you not eating this breakfast sandwich? It's the third most important meal of the day.
Not true.
So, what is on the docket for today? We diving back into Boyle investigation land? I hate it when this happens.
All my fans congregate around one of my benches.
Now, I gotta take selfies with all of them.
Okay, everybody! One pic a person and you gotta tag me 'cause I need the followers.
Uh, I think you're being upstaged buddy.
What's going on? No idea.
Well, I mean, that guy was just sitting there on the ride when he picked up that can and poured something all over himself.
Then, he pulled something out of his pocket, that thing he's holding there now.
- Hey, Dave, I think you better call - Hey, Sam? I think you better get down to Pinky Point Park right away.
Crisis counsellor won't be here for twenty minutes.
Where's Harley? Well Well, he was right here a moment ago.
Oh no.
Hey, stop! Okay Hey! Sir.
- What're you doing?! - Gotta slow this thing down.
You don't think I'll do it?! We're gonna get to know each other, but first I gotta get this thing stopped.
Hey, man, you gotta stop this train.
I can't stop, he'll set himself on fire if I stop.
I'll give you fifty bucks if you stop the train.
- No.
Are - you kidding me? Okay Okay Don't get any closer! Don't come any closer! Here we go.
One, two Don't do it Harley Carter.
three! Alright a thousand bucks and you stop the train? That's my final offer! - Okay.
- Thank you! Oh Just gonna sit right here.
Okay? You can't stop me! I know, I know I can't.
Okay, I just want to talk.
My name is Harley Carter.
Hey! Hey! Don't come any closer! I'll do it! I mean it! Hey, just give us one second.
Okay? Just one second.
I'm just gonna just gonna eat my sandwich.
He took my sandwich.
You want a bite? I can't eat that.
You know what goes into those things? Sodium nitrate.
Increases your chances of cancer and heart disease.
That thing could kill me.
Well, you see, you-you don't want to die.
I don't want to die.
I'm dead already.
My time is up.
You know this because you're a psychic? I'm a life insurance actuary.
I use statistics to calculate risks and life expectancy.
Average male's life expectancy is 76.
4 years.
You can extend that by regular exercise, add 4.
7 years.
Eating junk food like that sandwich, that alone can take off 35 minutes.
But it's so good.
Take me no siblings minus 7.
5 years, no children minus two years.
never been married minus two years.
All right your-your hand's just getting a little shaky there.
Why don't you give me the lighter Oh, okay.
Um, um, no family.
What about a girlfriend? I had a friend at work, but she quit.
So No friends, minus five years.
Which brings me to negative two years.
I'm on borrowed time.
I might as well end things myself.
No! No! No! No! No! No! Hey! Um, tell me about your happy place.
- My cubicle at work.
- Oh.
Okay, okay, hey-hey.
Tell me about your friend.
Tell me about her.
Evelyn the friend at work.
She was funny and smart.
I always wanted to ask her out, but what are the odds she'd say yes? Now, she's quit and I'll never know.
Hey, hey.
I know exactly what you're talking about.
But I also know that life is random and unique and we create our own chances.
I promise you there is a reason for you to get off this train.
If you give me one week and I will prove it to you.
And if after one week, we don't change your mind, I will bring you back to this train and I will light you on fire myself.
- One week.
- Come on.
Give me the lighter.
Whoo! Everybody loves you! Nobody wants you dead! Yeah! Listen, forget about those stats, okay? It's time to seize the day, and we are about to cross the first item off your bucket list.
I'm thrilled.
Wait, that's panic.
Wait, wait, wait, let me get this straight.
You can just look at a person and tell what age they're going to die? You gotta do me! That's not how it works.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, but try, come on.
All right, uh, indicators of diabetes, weak grip strength - eighteen to twenty years.
Wait, what? Closer to eighteen.
That was fun.
All right, Eugene, we are here - Evelyn's house.
- Evelyn's house?! Mm-hmm.
And you're going to ask her out.
- Yep.
- Great! Hey, hey, hey.
Come on.
Come on.
I can't do this now.
Let's do this one last.
Actually, let's go back to the train.
Eugene, I'm sure you've asked women out before.
Of course.
There was Heather Holebrook in grade two and Debra Finetti in high school, and, uh, uh Yup.
That's it? You've asked out two women in your life? Okay, listen, I'll be right here the whole time.
You get in trouble, I'll bail you out.
I'll be your Cyrano.
Usually I play the hot one, but I can play against type.
You ready to do this? - I can do this.
- Yeah.
Hit it again.
Nobody home.
Let's go.
No, she's gotta be here her car's here.
Just call her.
I can't do this.
Give me the phone, Eugene.
Unbelievable.
Okay.
Okay.
Whoa.
It's coming from inside.
I can't see.
Hey, Sam.
You doing anything right now? Evelyn was shot through the window.
What do you think? Sniper? - You watch too much TV.
- I'm on too much TV.
- Not lately.
- You find any prints yet? Just this coffee cup.
Those prints are going to be mine.
Sorry.
I left that cup over there.
Mmm.
Mocha is still warm.
Thank you.
Thanks, Wes.
Oh! Hello, suspects.
What? They always return to the scene of the crime.
Okay, can we just stay in reality for another couple of minutes.
All right.
Evelyn worked at Claim-Well for thirty-five years, up until four days ago.
I mean, who quits two weeks before their pension? You ever have a bullet whizz past your ear? If I'm in a good mood, you will, if not, you won't hear anything at all.
This has to end.
Dave.
You're light on your feet, big man.
How long you been standing there? No.
What phone call? What phone call? I mean, why am I talking about a phone call I just have to use the little boy's room man's room, little man's room men's room! We haven't had much chance to talk much, have we, Dave? You know what? No, no, we haven't.
Well, we should.
I mean, crime scene's not really your place, is it, Dave? - No.
- Let's talk real soon.
Sound good? Yes that will yep, that sounds good.
After you.
How you doing, buddy? She's really dead? I'm never going to get to talk to her again.
I'm so sorry.
I want to help.
I want to help Evelyn.
Okay.
Hey, Sam? I've never been questioned by the police before.
Well, we can cross this off your bucket list.
Hi, Eugene.
Detective Shaw.
Can you tell me what Evelyn's last days at Claim-Well were like? Evelyn loved her job, but in the last month or so, she was really upset about something.
And then, four days ago, she was called up to the president's office for a meeting.
When she came out, she told me, "Be careful around here", and then she quit.
And that-that that was the last time I talked to her.
Yeah, there's something fishy going on - at this insurance company.
- Oh, oh! Why are you so excited? I want to cover Claim-Well.
Okay, first of all, I loved that movie Office Space.
Huh? And you're starting from zero.
I have an inside man.
I could use the extra legwork and we should be keeping an eye on Eugene.
Fine.
But lay low.
We don't need a multi-million dollar corporation on our asses.
This place is so corporate.
It's so bland, it's so bleak so depressing.
I'm so excited.
Hey, man, before we get started on this thing, I gotta tell you about this phone conversation I overheard Boyle having.
He was threatening a guy.
Our Boyle plot thickens.
Intriguing.
Who was he talking to? I don't know, but it was really bad.
I'm now legit frightened of the guy.
All right, we'll deal with that later.
Right now, we got some break room work to do.
Gossip is power, and someone at that water cooler knows what happened to Evelyn.
Hey, Eugene? What's the work situation in there? Did Evelyn have any friends? Any office confidantes? Evelyn kept to herself.
All right, well, someone in there knows something.
We just have to do a little digging.
Claim-Well is a pretty good place to work.
I've been here twenty-three years, five months, and today'll be day twenty-five.
You've been here for twenty-three years and you still have the worst parking spot? That's not the worst of it.
This is your office? It's his happy place.
Well, they put me up here when they were going to expand, but that never happened.
So, now, it's just me alone.
God, when do we get three more tickets for the train ride? Eugene, you didn't tell us you're the bottom guy on the rung.
You were our in with the president! The president? Oh I've only ever spoken to President Buchanan twice.
Once, when he thought I was a waiter at the Christmas party.
I served him all night long.
Didn't know what else to do.
All right, well, trust me, no one's ever mistaken me as a waiter.
Although I did play one in a great film Bus Boy 3 starring Seth Green.
Yes, one of your finer straight to DVD performances.
Speaking of performances I have an idea.
There we go.
Oh, hello.
I am Peter Lemoncello, HR.
- And who am I? - You're still Eugene.
And I'm "Dave Leigh"? - No one knows who you are, man.
- You made me a janitor? We're gonna hit 'em from both sides, okay.
I'm gonna hit them from white collar, you're gonna hit them from wet mop.
Don't you think someone might recognize you? Not possible because there is no Harley Carter.
There is only Peter Lemoncello.
This place is amazing, Dave.
Everyone comes to work nine to five, every day for years and years.
It's like a series that never gets cancelled.
Time to join the Claim-Well team.
Oh, cafe.
Don't mind of I do.
I-I don't think I know you.
Lemoncello.
Peter Lemoncello from HR.
We met at the company picnic.
I came with Cathy.
Cathy B.
or Cathy R.
? Both.
B and R.
Oh.
You-you do look awfully familiar.
Uh, Peter, huh? You're not usually on this floor? - Oh, hey, Eugene.
- Do you know Peter Lemoncello? I-I-I-I do.
Yeah, he's from the sky.
And, uh, he wants to churn butter? Oh, human resources.
Here.
You need these more than I do.
Oh, this is so cute.
"Tom Chao's yogurt.
" Everybody puts their names on their lunches.
It's like all of our lunches are having a little fridge meeting.
Has anyone ever told you that you look like Harley Carter? It's my go-to Halloween costume every year.
Lydia, right? What was the deal with Evelyn Macdonald? It's okay, I'm from HR.
Yeah, I uh have to get back to my desk.
Oh, um, it's Tommy Chao's birthday tomorrow.
We're passing around a card, you want to sign it? Yes.
I would love to.
What-what should I write? What-what did you write? Happy Birthday.
Lydia, what was going on with Evelyn? She quite two weeks before her pension kicks in and then she gets murdered? Are you afraid of someone here? I'm Earl Brimley, head of security.
What are you two talking about? We're talking about signing Tom Chao's birthday card.
Happy Birthday's taken, so you're gonna have to get a little more creative.
Did I just hear you asking about Evelyn Macdonald? Let me be very clear.
Evelyn quit four days ago and no longer has anything to do with this company.
You're a gossipy kinda fellow, huh? I never seen you before.
And you are? Right there, on my badge.
Lemoncello from HR? Remind me, where'd you guys have your company retreat last summer? That's easy.
It was in nature.
Wrong.
There was no retreat.
And this badge is a fake.
You're coming with me, whoever you are.
Who am I? Who am I? Who am I? Who are you?! I was sent by Funkhouser and Harris.
Never heard of 'em.
Wow.
Don't smirk.
Don't be proud of that.
You've been kept out of the loop.
Yeah, you're right.
I'm not from HR.
That's a ruse.
I was sent from corporate to check in on all you chuckleheads.
Brimley head of security.
You know who your boss is? Well, I was sent by your boss's, boss's boss, which makes me your boss.
You see this watch? It's worth more than your car.
Actually, what kind of car do you drive? Cause this is just my every day watch.
Oh, Brimley.
Ah, Brimley.
You want to know who I am? I'm the guy who's eating your lunch.
I'm the guy who gets to decide whether you live or die at this company, Brimley head of security.
You're fired.
Oh, I have your attention now? Brimley ex-head of security with a penchant for prosciutto.
You want your job back? - Yes.
- Then sign Tom Chao's birthday card.
Ballistics confirmed a 0.
30 calibre round.
We're looking for a rifle.
Time of death was 11:45 PM.
Good work, Shaw.
Also, I made you a copy of the Claim-Well files.
Oh sorry, this must have gotten in there by accident.
It's a picture of a horse.
Actually that's, uh that's mine.
I'm working on something.
Thought I printed that at home.
Well, read it.
Looks like there's some dirt Claim-Well was trying to sweep under the rug.
- Man, I miss the trenches.
Thanks.
- Yeah.
Detective who? No, get rid of her.
Tell her I'm not taking any more meetings Good, 'cause a meeting implies two people exchanging ideas, and this is just gonna be you talking.
Sam Shaw, Bishop P.
D.
I need to know about a class-action lawsuit that was withdrawn two months ago.
Those files would be confidential, Officer.
It's Detective.
You have me wrong.
I'd help you out if I could.
I'm a big supporter of the Bishop Police.
I personally give to the department every year.
You tell Chief Pershing I say hello.
Pershing is gone.
Let's be clear.
No one at Bishop P.
D.
has ever fit nicely in a pocket, if you know what I mean.
Fine.
There are people above me who have the authority to discuss the cases.
I don't.
I'll have my receptionist send you up.
Mr.
Buchanan sent me up, he said you could answer some of my questions, Mister Lemoncello Peter Lemoncello.
Would you like some cucumber water? How are you here?! They think I'm a visiting partner doing an inspection and they gave me this boardroom as an office.
Sam, this place is amazing.
Everyone works in these cubicles.
They're like individual huts! If I work for the next five months straight, I get vacation days.
We should plan a vacation? I'm thinking Montego Bay.
Okay, you're talking about vacation and drinking I don't even know what this is and looking at nonsense pieces of paper.
I'm on an investigation.
Is that what you think we are? Just a bunch of insurance jockeys? Insurance jockeys? I'm sure there's a derogatory term for us.
You know, you-you just see this probably as just a-a bunch of pieces of paper, but this, this is our life blood.
Oh, if you only knew the journey that this form has been on, it-it would blow your sweet, naive non-insurance-making mind.
Sam, buckle up 'cause I'm about to take you on a ride.
It all starts with Lydia.
She's our customer service rep.
She gets all the client's information, gets them on the hook: age, weight, height, medical history.
She starts the whole application process.
Then, it gets kicked up to Eugene, who takes all those statistics, compares them to a mortality chart and is able to tell you exactly when you're gonna die! Then, the file goes to our underwriter that used to be Evelyn the object of Eugene's unrequited love.
Evelyn analyzes all those stats and is able to recommend whether an applicant deserves coverage.
No pre-existing conditions and you're pretty much good to go.
The file finally goes to our President's desk, where it can sit for up to fifteen days, until Mr.
Buchanan is able to review and finally sign off on the policy.
With Mr.
Buchanan's signature, you are approved.
And that's how life insurance works.
Look, here's the deal, okay? There's something going down at this company besides paper shuffling.
So, if you want to be helpful, I need all of the files from the lawsuit last year, as well as all FSC complaints.
I'm on it.
I'm thinking of limiting toilet paper to four squares.
Do you know how many clogs I had to snake out this morning? - What are these animals eating? - Mr.
Lemoncello! Oh yeah, let me get that for you.
- Here you go.
- Thank you.
- Who was that? - Malcolm, good kid, hard worker.
- What did you sign? - No idea.
Anyways, there's a file clerk in the basement who can help us I understand that you are upset, Mister Gigs? May I call you Gigs? Look, Gigs, I am truly sorry for the loss of your brother.
It must be hard.
But I've looked at the system and there's nothing I can do.
Your claim has been denied.
Uh oh.
Please don't call me that.
Now, that's offensive as well.
Rude.
Mr.
Lemoncello! Put it in an email, Malcolm.
Lemoncello.
You're the guy asking about Evelyn Macdonald? Look, I don't like to speak ill of the dead.
But I used to be an underwriter in her department, until she reported me for lying about a sick day to go to my sister's bridal shower.
That got me demoted to this hole.
I don't even like my sister.
Um, those files.
- Can you say possible suspect? - Mm-hmm.
Okay.
Yep.
Oh.
Raccoon trap as a paper weight? Yeah, and the whole bear hunting selfie and nasty streak? Certainly capable of shooting Evelyn.
At the very least, some kittens.
Oh my God.
We need to find Eugene.
Marisol Lobner? You think she killed Evelyn? Have you seen her rifle selfie? It's not that kind of workplace.
I can't imagine Marisol or anybody else here trying to kill somebody.
That was meant for Eugene! Cover him! Cover him! Okay! Stay down.
Dave, keep him covered! Why do I have to cover him?! Because your body's bigger! Okay, weird time to take a dig! Dave, toss me your keys! It's locked! Use the key! I gave you the key! The key?! Which key?! - The brown one! - They're all brown! Are you trying to get me shot?! Okay, okay, okay Ahh Oh, come on.
Yeah? Yeah? I got it! Sniper What is this stuff? Hello, friend.
Hey, Sam.
- Hey.
- Sam.
What is it, Harley? I think I know who our killer is.
I'm a little busy right now.
- He's walking right towards you.
- Harley, I gotta go.
Sam! The killer's walking right towards you.
Sam, arrest him! Sam! Oh no.
No, no, no, no.
Uh-uh.
- Harley, just a minute.
- No.
I know exactly what you and Claim-Well have been up to.
Evelyn found out too much and you were gonna hush her up.
Then, you got worried that maybe she spilled to her best friend Eugene, so there was only one thing left to do.
- Harley - No, Sam.
I'm just getting to the good part.
You had to take out Eugene too.
Luckily for him, you're a terrible shot.
You ran, almost got away.
Then, you were on clean-up duty, but you were a bad little boy and didn't clean up after yourself.
You're not only a murderer, you're a litterer too.
Shame on you.
Shame.
- Shame.
- Harley? - Shame.
- Harley? - Shame.
- Harley! If you would let me talk for a minute, I could tell you, that Mr.
Brimley is cooperating with us.
Oh, confession? Good, I'm all ears.
Yeah, I'm not here to turn myself in.
I'm here to get protection.
You were right, Evelyn's death had everything to do with Claim-Well.
She said something to the higher-ups.
I don't know what it was, but it got them sweating.
I didn't want to see her get in trouble, so I tried to get her to shut it, but she wouldn't.
- So they did.
- They? I don't know who "they" is.
Whatever this is, it's big.
That's why I'm here.
I could be next.
Okay, Mr.
Brimley we're going to have to verify your alibi.
- Okay.
- There's an active shooter, so you need to get Eugene somewhere safe.
Wes is sweeping the fifth floor.
I'll let you know if he gets anything.
And I need to get my hands on these files, so I can see what Claim-Well's hiding.
Yeah.
I'm sorry I said "Shame, shame, shame.
" You ate my lunch.
Evelyn knew something, and they think you do too.
What could that be? I don't know anything.
I finally make a connection with a woman and she's dead.
You are a sad person.
- Dot.
- All in.
Okay, Dot, let's do this.
Down and dirty.
There we go.
I got you beat.
But what's the point? We're all destined to do the same thing over and over and over again until we die.
Look at you, you can't help but bet low, because even if you have good cards, you never think your cards are good enough.
You always go all in because you like black-and-white situations.
You're always bluffing because you think poker is a chance to practice your acting skills.
You never play for real.
Oh, he's right.
I never do play for real.
People never break their patterns.
Oh crap.
I'm gonna be dancing by myself tonight, aren't I? I one hundred percent spaced.
I'm still working.
If this is work, - I want your job.
- Um, yes, it is work.
I have to go get him to sign off on this warrant.
If it were me, I'd get him to sign a marriage certificate.
Yeah, I'm not you.
Hmm.
Your cheeks say different.
- You're blushing.
- I'm not blushing.
My blood gets going when I'm working a case.
How about for once, you do something different, and talk to a very attractive man about something other than murder.
Okay, I will talk to you later.
Again, I am sorry.
Don't be sorry.
Get working.
Uh, Earl Brimley said something big was going down.
I think it has to do with their lawsuits or FSC complaints.
Can you sign off on the warrant so I can get a look at their files? Look, I'll sign the warrant for you, but its 11:00 PM.
Judge Hingston is in his bed, falling asleep to some Keanu Reeves movie.
If you want, just have a seat and I can help you nutshell this thing out.
I miss the trenches.
Wow.
That's how I'm gonna die.
I thought for sure it'd be choking on bone broth soup at the Chateau, as Gwyneth administers CPR while aligning my chakra.
But, uh Nope.
Just heart failure.
- Still sexy.
- It's bedtime.
Have a good night, sad person.
I hope you don't die.
Well, if I do, I have insurance.
Speaking of which, I have all your paperwork.
All I need is a few signatures and initials.
Great.
What does Dave need paperwork for? Well, uh, since I only have a few good years left, I thought I'd start planning for what happens afterwards.
So, I got life insurance.
Made Sam my beneficiary, and to you, I'm leaving my estate.
Dave, thank you.
I am so touched.
I mean, you don't own a single thing that I want, but thank you.
It's moments like these that make working at Claim-Well slightly more bearable.
- Oh, wow.
- Harvey? No, no.
Shh, shh, shh.
Do not touch Tom Chao's yogurt.
Okay? Don't touch Tom Chao's yogurt! Don't touch it! Are you having a stroke? I gotta call Sam.
I gotta call her.
Just watch Sad Eugene.
We don't call you that.
What's your profile on the killer? Well, Wes said those were wood shavings that Harley found at the scene, but unless our guy was whittling while he waited, that doesn't tell us anything yet.
Uh, based on the other evidence, we're looking for a five-eight, hundred and sixty-five pound most likely male, disenfranchised, lonely.
- Ex-military? - No.
He had a clear shot at Eugene and he missed.
Even with Evelyn, it took him four shots.
This guy is not a professional.
I was I was in the army.
Bomb disposal.
My guess? You were good.
Well, I did what I had to do.
Can I ask you a question? I'm listening.
What's with the horse? Ahh, from the printer.
- Yeah.
- That's um that's Shuffle 'long.
Shuffle 'long? Yeah, my dad used to take me to the races when I was nine.
He would let me bet on whatever horse I wanted and I picked Shuffle 'long.
- Did he win? - No.
Never.
He's what you call an underdog.
Yeah.
I rescued him.
He's 28, relaxing in some stables not too far from here.
Yeah, where he belongs.
It's a reminder to always bet on the underdog.
So, does that mean you're the underdog? Maybe.
I hope to join him when I retire, hopefully with my person.
Your person.
Do you really feel like we have one person, all heart-pounding and lightning striking? Yeah.
Yeah, we-we do.
But it's not lightning and thunder.
It's the opposite.
It's me at the stable bringing a bale of hay to Shuffle 'long.
My person is standing on the front porch, with two cups of coffee in old, worn out mugs.
And we sit for a beat and I say "You remember when we bought these mugs?" Our whole lives in a cup of coffee, or we don't have to say anything because we don't need to use words anymore.
But what do I know? It's just a picture in my head.
Hey.
Uh, nobody's answering their phones.
Sorry to interrupt.
Is this a date or something? No I had a I had a warrant.
He was helping me and we were just, um we were just talking about the case.
Yeah, I was thinking about the case, too.
If the killer came from within Claim-Well, there would have been a million easier ways to kill Eugene.
Everyone writes their names on their lunches.
They could've just poisoned him.
And it definitely wasn't a professional sniper, so maybe it was - personal.
- Personal.
We're looking for somebody outside of Claim-Well.
Yeah.
Sorry to interrupt, but I thought you needed to hear this.
There was a bullet casing on the roof of the shootout and I managed to pull a fingerprint.
It matches an employment biometric registration.
A numbered company at 1095 Macpherson Ave.
It's a lumber mill.
There were wood shavings at the sniper scene.
You're looking for a Garth Palacek.
Who is Garth Palacek? Been the shift captain for the last year.
I know Garth.
He's been on night shift with me for a year, been doing doubles to make ends meet.
Needs the money, bad.
He was scheduled to work tonight, but he's a no-show, which is weird.
Where was he last night? He called in sick.
Here's his locker.
I hope he's not in trouble or anything.
Whoa! There's Evelyn and the entire underwriting team.
It's about a stalker-ish a shrine as I've ever seen.
What was his relationship with Claim-Well? Did he use to work there? He's been with us for seven years.
His brother for six, I guess.
Anton Palacek - is that his brother? Yeah.
But Anton died a year ago.
Heart attack at forty.
Total surprise.
Garth hasn't been the same since.
They were like two peas in a pod Tone and Gigs.
Did you just say Gigs? I understand that you are upset, Mister Gigs.
May I call you Gigs? That was his nickname.
Okay I-I have a hunch here.
Just-just Sorry.
What did I tell you? It's a P-95 form.
And then the beneficiary is Garth Palacek.
Okay, ba-ba-ba "We regret to inform you" "that your claim has been denied.
" When it came time for Dave to buy a policy, he named you the beneficiary.
He named me the beneficiary? Yes, but you know, to Claim-Well, we're just names and numbers on a piece of paper.
But to everyone else, to the Tones and the Gigs, that policy is everything.
That's why Anton bought a policy naming Garth his beneficiary.
But Garth never saw the money because Claim-Well illegally turned down his claim.
He is gonna go after everybody who signed that P-95 form.
Hey, Dave, what's up? What? - What? - Dave lost Eugene.
Any idea where he went? - What? - What? Dot said she heard Eugene say he's going to his happier place.
- Oh no.
- Hold on a second.
Did she say he said "happier place" or "happy place"? Just tell her it makes a big difference! Okay.
Great.
Thank you.
What? I just wanted to hear you say "What" again.
I know where Eugene is.
So, his cubicle is his happy place? Dave's is that cat cafe The Litter Box.
I'll see if I can find the main switches for the lights.
Eugene's over there.
You hear something? Yeah.
Eugene? Eugene? Eugene! What are you doing? I'm not sure.
I'm just trying to find anything.
I couldn't live with the thought that whatever Evelyn figured out would go unfound and-and she would die in vain.
He's here! Get down! I don't wanna die.
Eugene, you changed your mind! You don't want to die.
I'm so proud of you.
Now, we just have to try not to die.
That's not mine, but but Evelyn was at my desk before her meeting.
She must've hid it here, knowing that they'd check her desk.
- Okay, here's the plan.
- Yeah.
I'm gonna tell you to run and then you're gonna go like crazy.
Those odds are not in my favour.
- Go! - Okay.
Go to Peter Lemoncello's office! Evelyn's house.
They always return to the scene of the crime.
I think I got him.
Where'd he go? Down the stairs.
Oh good you guys are still alive.
- I'm still alive too.
- We need to contain him.
Is there any way we can funnel him to one area? Hey, you're talking to the guy with the big-ass key ring.
All these stairwell doors lock automatically and I know just the door to leave open for him - the basement.
All right.
Operation Lumberjack is a go! In the middle everybody.
On three.
One-two-three.
Lumberjack.
- Where's Harley? - I can't decide.
"Have a good one" or "May your year be filled with love and surprises".
Is that too much? I mean, I barely know Tom Chao, but I-I just I want him to remember me.
Maybe I should just sign it "Harley Carter" that would blow his mind.
Get back, get back, get back.
Get back! I almost shot you! I told you to go wait in Peter Lemoncello's office.
I know.
But then I thought, "Who's Peter Lemoncello?" Eugene, are you kidding me? Only the best improv character I've ever come up with.
I mean literally, I birthed Peter Lemoncello from my loins from my Loins.
Cover me.
Is that Marisol's raccoon trap? This was the plan? To lure him into a Bugs Bunny style trap? In a perfect world, that would always be the plan.
Agreed.
Garth Palacek, I'm taking you in for the murder of Evelyn Macdonald and for the attempted murder of Eugene Wallace.
I know your brother died and for that I am truly sorry.
His death won't be for nothing.
Sam, we found this USB key under Eugene's desk.
It's probably all the dirt that Evelyn found on Claim-Well.
All right, I'll get Wes on it ASAP.
Seems like your time at Claim-Well has come to an end.
I should give them my two weeks' notice.
Gonna miss this place.
- Mr.
Buchanan.
- Well, Detective Shaw.
I've heard you've made quite a mess of my building.
I'll be in touch with your superiors.
No thanks necessary, Mr.
Buchanan.
I'm just glad we caught the guy before he got to you.
You were next on his list.
It's just my job: saving your life.
I don't want to hold you up.
I'm sure you've got some other bad guys to catch here in Bishop.
Funny thing about that You're under arrest for agent fraud.
It was all on the USB.
You directed your team to illegally deny claims and then stall the lawsuits, so good people would have to drop them or face going broke.
Despite your best efforts, Evelyn managed to blow the whistle on you after all.
So sorry.
No cucumber water where you're headed.
You're gonna hear from my lawyer.
I forgot how nice it is out here.
We're gonna go to the sand hills tomorrow, if you want to come.
Remember when we used to do that when we were kids? Wish I could, but gonna have to take a rain check.
Oh, I get it.
You're afraid I'm gonna beat your butt to the top like I always do.
I got a job in Timmins.
What do you mean? I knew about it when I showed up here.
I was afraid to say yes.
Felt a little too "rest-of-my-lifey", you know? I guess I was running again my usual M.
O.
But this last little while? Watching big sis in her natural environment? Maybe it's time to get the rest of my life started.
Hold on, um, just back it up.
So, are you actually admitting that you learned something from me? Well, after all the nuggets of wisdom I've tossed your way, it's only fair that I get one thing from you, so Oh man, I'm proud of you.
Thank you.
Yo, a little help? You ever heard of taking two trips? Or, I don't know, asking Harley? I have the glass.
Yeah don't pull a muscle.
Hey, you tell her? Mm-hmm.
She's gonna miss you.
We're all gonna miss you.
Oh, please.
She's gonna be busy with the new guy.
I'm sorry? I think sparks are flying between her and Boyle.
Oh, uh, he has a thing for her.
Come on, who wouldn't? But she might have a thing for him.
