Outlast (2023) s02e04 Episode Script

Season 2, Episode 4

1
- Ahoy!
- Hello. We have a visitor.
- We have a visitor, you guys.
- Hello.
- Hello.
- Hello. How you doing?
Oh man, I've had better.
Walking up to Delta,
just the excitement
drained out of my body.
Seeing their camp, it is stunning.
- Come on in.
- What's up?
- Come on in. Enjoy the heat.
- Yeah?
- Come, get warm.
- You guys ready for a story?
Yeah.
The assets I was bringing
maybe wasn't as valuable as I,
you know, was once thinking.
So I need to bring a nice salesman pitch,
because if I don't convince Delta that
I'm gonna bring a real value to this team,
I may actually be flaring out here
in the next 12 hours.
So Bri yesterday just got this,
like, hair-trigger idea
- Mm-hm.
- and then she just splits.
She just walked to Alpha.
- Wow.
- Yeah.
And we're like, "Oh wow, okay,
that's, you know, your character."
Was that her that popped then?
I think so.
Oh.
But, um
So it was me, Julio, and Meghan.
But Julio, man, he was kind of
running on fumes, and Meghan too.
-And last night it got cold.
-Yep.
And so
then there was me.
And so I was coming with a proposal
that I have an entire kit
for an entire team.
And so I'm just saying, if you want
another hatchet, another knife,
more tarps, all that stuff,
I could bring all that with me.
I'll work for food.
I mean, I'll pay my dues.
I can bow hunt.
I mean, I definitely pull my weight,
I'm telling you.
Joey is a man that needs help.
I mean, he is exhausted, cold, and hungry.
From day one, man,
I was committed to my team,
trying to build them stronger.
But a lot of the heavy stuff was
kind of falling on my shoulders.
But that's the game.
If you weren't prepared, not our fault.
That's something that
the team should have had handled
within the first seven days of being here.
How've you been eating? Do you feel like
you're on the decline real bad or
Am I? I have a lot of calories,
I still got a lot of gas in the tank.
Well, I hate to see you in a spot,
losing your team like that.
That sucks
where you still got it in the tank.
But when it boils right down to it,
we're here to play a game.
Yeah.
He's not quitting on anybody.
His team quit him.
But just having that extra mouth to feed,
I couldn't see any benefit
to having a fifth person.
But here's the deal.
And I don't have
I don't want to, like,
ultimatums and crap like that,
but this money
This money would be everything
for me and my family.
It is the reason why I'm here.
I mean, it's, uh it's a lot.
Mm-hm.
My wife got hit with miscarriages,
and she had to go through all these
surgeries, and so that was really scary.
Yeah.
My wife and I,
we were just hit with so many bills.
It was just kind of
Yeah, it just was a raw deal.
It was hard to see him like that.
He definitely was desperate,
um, to stay in the game.
And my heart did sink
a little bit for him.
It was hard to listen to and know that
we're probably gonna turn this guy down.
Sometimes you gotta be
the bad guy, I guess.
This game is like
one of those shots
of like, hey, you know, we might actually
be able to get our feet under us again.
It would change my family's life
in a monumental way.
Yeah.
So that's my story.
And I understand one way or another, man.
So
I'm thinking
if you give us a few minutes,
- we can talk amongst ourselves.
- Yeah. For sure.
And then we'll let you know shortly.
Absolutely, guys.
Thanks for hearing my story.
Chopping wood, chopping wood,
yes, sir, I am!
My body's whupped today,
but my mind feels pretty darn good, y'all.
- Good.
- Good.
Almost like day one.
I'm all chipper and joking.
I just get worn out real fast.
You're a good guy, Drake.
I don't like people suffering.
I do really well suffering, dude.
I can suffer through some shit.
I don't like seeing other people suffer.
I just don't like it.
- Yeah.
- I don't like it!
-I'm going to get some
-Boy!
tinder kindling stuff for the inside.
You call me "boy"?
Say hello to my little friend!
It's like a machine gun.
I am so impressed with Drake's
eagerness to jump up and help. But
There's a lot of banter so far.
There's a lot of locker-room talk
Wap-i-aaah!
that makes me appreciate
my life at home a little bit more.
But definitely want to practice patience,
practice understanding, and hopefully,
they will come back and kind of reflect
that back to me as well.
- Miss Bri.
- Yes?
How's that water looking?
- Good.
- I want to wash my hands well.
She dirty girl.
It's kind of this top-dog syndrome.
They kind of want to just be
the loudest and the busiest.
I don't think
it's necessarily good for the team.
How are your nails?
I mean, not like,
"How are your nails?" But like
Mine are muddy
from digging for clams.
You got a couple cuts on there too.
I do.
My first two fingers are full of cuts.
- Wap-i-aaah!
- So I wanna use this water
- I did eat a giant slug.
- and just make a little self-care wash.
-One second.
-No one else wanted it
- Hang on one second.
- but I grilled and ate it.
Can you talk quieter? We got something
going on here. If you don't mind.
- Yeah.
- Thanks.
Sorry.
It's great to have a gal pal.
And with Bri joining the group,
I feel so much more heard.
I just felt the dynamic shift
a little bit.
I feel like
I definitely fit in better with Bravo.
- You fit in so well. I am so
- Thank you.
honestly, like genuinely
so stoked you're here.
I am too. I really am.
Hey, whose maroon sock
is this out here?
Me. Don't worry about it.
I'll get it later.
You didn't use it for something foul
last night, did you?
Um, what do you mean?
The guys are very much like the guys
I'd worked with in the military.
Water from a glacier in Alaska.
It was blessed by an Eskimo medicine man.
But Emily is more soft-spoken.
She has a really hard time speaking up
sometimes, expressing her feelings.
But you do have to be strategic
about the social dynamic.
You have to just adapt to what you have,
then bond with people
in a situation like this.
I am going to go work on finding
some more kindling and tinder.
-Mm-hm.
-See you in a bit.
Okay. Bye.
After I got done
speaking with them,
it felt very hopeless.
It felt like there was no means
of actually surviving out here.
You know, realizing that
maybe Delta doesn't need me,
there's a good chance I might
go to Bravo and they say the same thing.
And then at this point
I'm just a wanderer,
just a vagabond, just circling the drain.
It's a hard one. I don't know.
He seems like an honest man.
We made our decision yesterday
that we weren't going to accept anybody.
We did.
They look like they're in a
in a good position.
So, I actually
I can reasonably see myself
going to Bravo.
All right,
we all come to an agreement?
- Yep.
- Yes.
All right.
We're ready.
Come on in.
We'll make it quick.
So, when it comes right down to it,
it's a game.
We're here to play the game and to win.
I know you've got a young family,
could use the money,
and I know you said
you can bring the stuff and whatnot,
but as five people,
we only gain one mouth.
We hate to be ruthless and everything,
but we think you ought to
go back to your camp.
And pack it back down here.
For reals?
It's gonna get cold.
How you feel about cuddling?
Yeah.
Let's freaking do this!
- Yeah.
- Let's go!
-Couldn't turn you down, bro.
-Dude.
If this wasn't a game board,
I would've helped the guy.
Why would you change
who you are in your heart to win a game?
I appreciate you guys so much.
I'm telling you, man.
I was the most adamant
about saying no,
but when this man opened his mouth,
my whole perspective changed.
I had to taste the humble gumbo, man.
Hey, look. I'm going to be real with you.
My attitude said, "Hell no, not doing it."
But when we introduced each other
and you was like, "I got kids,"
then I was just like,
I couldn't deny you, bro.
Hopefully, I don't regret
my decision on taking him on the team,
and we're making the right move.
I'm just going to keep my eye on him.
I gotta tell you, we're winning it.
-Yep.
-This is a winning team.
- We are winning.
- Is this it?
- To the end, yep.
- Yes.
Dude, for me, my family,
my wife and two kids, man
Welcome to Team D.
I owe so much to the four of them.
But we're all playing the game,
our own game.
And I just still can't believe
they fell for my complete desperate plea.
It felt like I crossed
this massive chasm of death
and made it to the other side, man.
It's a significant moment that I probably
won't forget for a very long time.
I'm still on the game board, man.
I'm still on the game board.
I'm not going to lie.
I think the time situation
is the hardest thing to deal with.
It's really rough
not knowing what time it is.
It really messes with my mind, 'cause
Not gonna lie, I'm late to everything.
But being here, time is
one of the hardest things that I miss.
So, I mean, damn.
I am 100% confident
that Tre and I are going to the end.
We're gonna win.
Oh yeah, all day.
-Yep. Mm.
-$500,000 apiece.
Yeah.
Damn.
Yeah. An inconceivable number.
Everyone has whatever motivations
they have for this.
But I guarantee you there's nobody here
that needs it more than Tre and I do.
All right. Let's go see what's up.
If I can get up.
And I will do everything within my power
to make it happen.
My dad made it
through two tours in Vietnam.
Shit, I can make it through, you know,
however long it takes out here.
I'd like to find a few crabs.
I don't think that's very likely.
But the more we look, the more we'll find.
Not in that one.
Nothing.
Might be the wrong season for the crabs.
I want to give my family a better life.
I want to pay off the debt
on my mom's property
so that we can not worry about losing it.
My team has to eat, buddy. Sorry, pal.
And Tre's experienced
the same life issues that I have.
He's had to work just as hard and
fend for himself just as much as I have,
and always done his best
to be a good person.
I've been homeless.
I've lost everything I had
a numerous amount of times.
I've learned that there's nothing
that'll prepare you for the next step
except to wake up and go do it.
I'm not doing it just for me.
I got family
that just needs a helping hand.
You can do it.
I want my family
not to have to struggle every day.
This is a small thing to do.
You can do this. Come on, let's go.
Tonia and me, we need to win,
we have to win, and we are going to win.
There's fight in my heart.
And I got to get to the end of it.
With conditions clear
and no clouds on the horizon,
Team Delta decides to trek
three kilometers on the coast
to retrieve Joey
and Team Charlie's abandoned supplies.
My leg is hurting.
It's throbbing.
So I think I'm going to hang back,
if it's all the same.
- All right. Let's do this.
- All right. Let's go.
Safe travels.
I've been living with a bad leg
for a long time.
The thing's shot. I'm bone on bone.
And that's just because I played
way too hard and rough in the military.
I need a knee replacement.
The VA hasn't paid for it.
If we're the last ones out here,
the money is definitely
going to help with that.
It's crazy toiling around
in a place for so long
and then abandoning it,
like, cold turkey, you know?
And now look.
I know, man.
It's definitely an upgrade, 100%, man.
I'm gravitating more towards Eric.
Just very capable.
He's strong. He's a workhorse.
And having Eric on my side
means I'm protected on Delta.
As soon as I got on the team, I was like,
"I wanna fly under this guy's wing."
We got better peoples.
Yeah. And you guys are so cohesive.
Joey is a chatty individual.
He likes to talk a lot. But I love it.
I rub people wrong sometimes,
so it's kind of nice for me,
personally, to have a conversation,
because I haven't had one for a while
with the other team members.
Those two have been
bonding pretty good.
Yeah. Eric kind of needed it.
He did.
Yeah. Might boost his morale
and keep him level-headed.
So far, having Joey,
Eric seems a lot better.
Will it still be a problem?
Yes, because
nobody just changes overnight.
When you get hungry, you're tired,
you're missing relatives,
this shit about to get a lot worse.
Damn, you guys. Keep up, okay?
Okay. Whatever, whatever.
Eric's a good dude, man. I like him a lot.
But he got issues
I don't know how to deal with.
Yeah. Well, hopefully Joey will help
balance him out more than we could.
We might be strong strong now.
Yeah. On all fronts.
But in this game,
you got to split the money five ways now.
Right.
We went from four to five,
which means less money at the end.
So now we all
really need to prove our worth.
I don't know why
every time I get right here,
I'd imagine the fish are decent there.
- Yeah.
- It just looks like it.
Me too.
I would make a fish soup out of it.
I'm looking on the ground,
trying to find some damn hooks.
Yeah.
That'd make my day.
I got faith, and I'm going to keep praying
for things that we need to survive.
Some people on Delta
don't believe in that.
Man, but the type of life
and the type of cards I was dealt,
I really had to lean on God and
my own understanding to get through it.
Holy crap.
What you got?
You guys like fish?
Whoa, baby.
Look at that.
- It's still alive. Still alive.
- It's still alive?
That's crazy.
It floated on the bank.
Yeah.
- It's a blessing.
- Should we roll it up?
-Oh man. That's sweet.
-What were we talking about on the way up?
Man, when we get some fish.
- You know what he said?
- Yeah, dude.
- "It'd be nice."
- You already know.
Set it up on a
- Set it up anywhere.
- In the grass?
Somewhere that we all know
where it's at.
- Yeah.
- Just over there.
- I know exactly where to put it.
- Holy cows, man.
Our first fish.
At this point, the things
that have happened to this team,
I don't even understand.
Finding a fish that's washed up on shore
that's still alive?
How does that happen?
That's a perfect spot.
-Good to go.
-What a freaking morning. Yes, baby!
The manifestation that Joseph talks about
and the belief that he has
in his belief systems,
as much as I don't like
hearing about it all the time,
it's making me recognize things.
All right. Let's truck it.
It smells fresh as can be, really.
You're just like, "Oh, a fish."
I'm like,
what the , man?
It's gonna bring a tear
to my eye, but
You just don't understand,
like, how things work like that.
Crazy. That is nuts.
That's nuts.
- I mean, what are the odds of that?
- What are the odds?
Man, I'm trying
to build a shovel here,
so, uh, digging for clams
will be a lot easier.
Something to keep us from digging our
hands into that cold sand of the beach.
Trying to shape the handle.
This end is going to be the handle.
So I want it nice and round.
How's the shovel?
I think it'll turn out pretty good.
I'm getting so tired so fast.
Don't feel like you have to do it.
I can still get more clams without it.
Hopefully it's not
too heavy for y'all.
It'll be good.
Are you still thinking about
going hunting or
I don't know.
Clams are great, but if we're going to be
a team that's really going to be strong
and long-lasting,
we have to have some protein from hunting.
Also, I want to whittle a spoon.
A s I don't know, man.
Especially when it's also important
to make sure we have enough,
like, vitamins and minerals
and not just clams.
We'll see.
Sammy and I
have been going foraging.
- Conk funguses?
- Yeah.
It means it's like
a really tough mushroom. It's really hard.
-I've had that. It's so good.
-It's really good, yeah.
-Yeah.
-Good for you too.
If you see bitter cress,
keep your eye out.
I'm keeping my eye out.
Bri has been helping look for small game.
But I hope that the rest of the team
really starts kind of pulling their weight
to make it sustainable.
How are you feeling?
I didn't sleep, but it feels
really freaking good to rest.
Watch out. You're stepping on the tinder.
- Oh, shit. My bad.
- It's okay.
I just drank some white ash
mixed with some water.
Hopefully help me poop here in a bit.
- Cool.
- It's been like seven days.
Dude, it is freezing out here.
- It is so cold.
- It's pretty cold.
Shovel's coming along well.
Mind if I work on it?
Go for it, bubba. Hatchet's right there.
Sweet.
I've never made a shovel before.
Just winging it.
Maybe make it a little
bit smaller, so it's not so heavy?
Dude, I got it. Under control.
- Almost took off our edge here.
- Oh, shit.
Oop. Took off some of the handle.
That's okay.
You could almost take chunks off of here.
But it's dangerous in the sense
that we could break the handle off.
- And we have it stuck.
- That would suck.
I don't know.
Be interesting to see
if that does come to fruition.
It seems like there's a lack of
bushcraft knowledge from the Texas guys.
Ah, man.
Bro, I will fight a bear.
And I think it's going to happen tomorrow.
And the thing is, like,
you must be intentional out here.
But right now, the guys are wasting time,
wasting calories, wasting energy
with a stupid shovel,
when we actually
already have plenty of clams.
This is great.
You all tensed up like I was actually
gonna hit you? Like a paddle.
Oh, shit.
got some heat on it!
Put some heat behind that.
Damn.
Oh, man.
I see it.
Here she is, Camp Charles.
Ah, it's there.
It's all here, baby. Oh, baby.
- Bro, this is awful, man.
- I know.
Y'all weren't hidden
outside the wind at all.
Yeah, man.
Man, I bet it was some work
to haul firewood up here.
That was the thing. Like, you had
to find a giant log and haul it up here.
But I don't know
what we could have done differently.
Looking at Charlie Camp,
you can see there was quite a few people
lacking in those skills of survival.
This camp is set up to overexert yourself.
Yeah. This probably would have broke me.
This would have broke anybody, bro.
Dang.
What a freaking road, man.
Our first meal was the day Bri left.
We had seven clams.
Probably 250 calories total.
Over the whole span.
As soon as Bri split,
it was defeating, man.
It really was. It was a heavy blow.
It really honestly
took a lot of wind out of my sail,
'cause I came out here
wanting to just freaking
hit doubles and triples and homers,
and when you come out here and you just
fight and you fight and you fight,
man, the victories
were few and far between.
Joey couldn't
keep his team together.
Couldn't get a fire going.
They couldn't this, couldn't that.
Their shelter was pretty chintzy.
I feel like that was just a chaotic mess.
Really makes me wonder
if Joey's just not a true survivalist.
If you were an employee of mine,
I would have fired you.
Man, we've got a long walk with a lot of
stuff, so we might want to get a move on.
-That wind's cutting through me here.
-Yeah, wanna keep it moving.
Yep, yep.
Charlie, man It makes you realize
great teamwork is important,
but having skills to survive out here
is actually more important.
So keeping Joey might not be
the best decision I made.
See you, Charlie.
Take it easy. Frick.
Tide went down quick, huh?
Yeah, most every morning
it's always out.
Hey, where's the fish?
I think it's the next cove.
- I don't think it was that far.
- It's the next cove in here.
Yeah, it's up here.
- Do you have eyes on it?
- No.
I honestly think it was
back further, but it might be here.
Come on, man. That's on you guys.
No way. You can't fault us.
Yes, we can.
Should have set it by a landmark.
Yeah, we should have,
like, created like a little rock stack.
A marker.
Oh, shit.
You guys, like we're too late
in the game to be doing this shit.
My team was kind of blaming me and Joey
for the situation.
You got to be careful.
I feel like
it was all of our fault,
but they kind of
gang up on him and I a little bit.
What the?
I mean, we're walking on eggshells
with my team.
I know you feel bad,
but I feel like we're all to blame.
Yeah. Did a bird take it?
- Bird might have taken it.
- Oh, for sure.
Dummy.
Freaking fish, dude.
So, to my knowledge,
you just take the center out,
and you cook the rest of it,
and all these legs have meat in them.
So we boiled up a few snails and starfish.
Your body can literally start calming down
and relaxing when you start chewing it.
You can literally feel it,
and it's a great feeling.
- It's actually pretty good.
- Oh, good.
It actually tastes really good.
Like it's, like, hearty.
I don't know.
If it starts making me throw up,
I'm gonna be completely screwed, you know?
Tre says that he's pretty pleased
with the way that the food turned out.
It's pretty good. It's not bad.
I mean, it's not good,
but it's a huge morale boost.
That's not terrible.
How do you think it's going
with only four hands instead of six?
I mean, I feel like, yeah, we lost people,
but we still got a lot done.
You know, we we still split tasks.
We, you know, manage the fire.
We got firewood, set traps,
got everything in here organized,
so we'll have a good night's rest.
Right.
Right now, our strategy is that we have
to tough it out, whether I like it or not.
'Cause I'm not gonna just quit.
I'm not gonna flare out.
And I know Tre's not gonna quit.
He's not going to give up.
He's not going to say die.
And we can both just keep working,
keep working, keep working, keep working.
This is really going to be about
outlasting the other teams.
I don't know how you feeling about
the whole situation of just being two.
I'm happy about it. I'm good. I love it.
I have the best partner ever.
Gracias. I I ditto that motion.
And I think we're both copacetic people,
and we're just gonna fight
whatever comes our way.
I rarely build
any bond with any people.
So, to have built
such an incredible bond with
another person is unheard of for me.
- We just wanna do the best we can.
- That's all we can do.
- Show up or show out, right?
- Yep.
There's only two of us and,
you know, we made a family bond.
There's not a thing
that Tonia could ask for
that I wouldn't try my best to help with.
And I know Tonia is the same way.
So I think
that's the team's greatest strength.
Sooner or later, we'll try to track those
deer that I saw. All those deer beds.
Yeah.
If I can shoot a deer,
me and you are moonwalking.
You know, being the underdogs
and being who we are,
we can make it happen.
We got this.
So, yeah, good.
We're just as good as we were before.
- Yeah.
- No problem.
On the south side of the bay,
after nearly two hours of searching,
Team Delta is still
unable to locate their fish.
Yeah, I'm telling you,
it's up there, 100%.
Follow the grass line.
Here she is. Got it. Right here.
- Yeah, all right. Found the fish!
- There it is.
Ah.
- I knew it was halfway.
- There we are.
- Bro, fish is back on the menu.
- On the menu.
Dude, yeah, it was on the menu,
off the menu. Now it's back on, man.
- It's on it.
- Let's go.
We were dreaming of fats.
- Dreaming of fats.
- Oh.
All right, let me put my gloves on.
Open up the fish.
Oh man, that thing is a little rough,
but, man, it still looks edible.
- Smells clean. It's ice-cold still.
- Yeah.
We're good to go.
Ah.
Well, I might have to take Joe's advice,
take a nap.
Looks like you guys
scored some gear.
What a brutal hike.
We really need something to eat, man.
Shit, I should have had
water boiling for you guys. Holy shit.
No, don't worry about it.
- Huh?
- Take a look.
What'd you do?
What did you do?
- A freaking fish!
- What?
- Did it feel like a fish?
- No!
Most fat we've got
is sucking squirrel brains.
And without putting nutrients back,
you're not gonna make it.
I mean, you can't think real clear.
And whatever it is,
it's still pink inside, smells fresh.
Yeah, man, fine dining.
Perhaps we open up a restaurant
for Alpha and Bravo.
That was the original thing.
It was, uh, TD Kitchen.
Team Delta Kitchen.
To have a source of fat like that
gives me confidence.
We definitely can outlast
anybody that's left out here.
We're gonna eat tonight.
Thank you, Lord.
Yes, Lord.
Drake and I are gonna
do some hunting there.
Look for squirrels,
see if we can find anything else to eat.
Yeah, exactly.
Can we really focus on getting
a pretty good stockpile of food?
Yeah.
Today, for some reason,
Emily's all of a sudden like,
"We need something different to eat."
Let's go get some food.
Things have been touchy with Emily,
so we were like, "Know what? Fine."
"Drake and I, we'll try to go hunting.
Like, whatever you want."
All right.
Let's get it.
I'll set some snare traps too.
Drake and I had been planning
to do some hunting,
and it kept getting pushed back
for some kind of reason.
Okay, let's go back
around this way.
Being out here
and not having distractions
and just being able to focus on hunting,
like, it's just It's amazing.
Yo, there's another huge shit right here,
right in our path to the bathroom.
It's something big.
It's like human-sized shit.
Where'd that little peckerwood go?
Yo.
It's a bear.
There's a little bear, man.
That's crazy.
You see this bear?
Look at this bear. You see the bear?
Holy smoke. Where's the mama?
Dude, that's Where's the mama?
That's what I'm saying, dude.
Where's the mama at?
So the bear that we saw near our camp,
there was no mother with it.
So we didn't know how dangerous
it could possibly be.
A baby bear.
Well, there gotta be a black bear
mom around here somewhere.
That's kind of scary
in the sense of, like,
it wouldn't be hard for them to walk
to our camp and just attack somebody.
Yeah, I'm gonna go back.
My toes are cold.
I haven't seen shit.
I saw a baby bear.
I saw a bear cub.
Before he saw that bear, Drew was like,
"Let's go hunting, get that squirrel."
And, you know,
I felt really validated in that moment,
but a bear is great.
You know,
I'm sure it was exciting for sure,
but we still need to get some protein too.
Damn it, dude.
Didn't get the squirrel,
which is fine.
I mean, they probably will,
maybe tomorrow.
That's what's been shitting
all over our camp.
Dude, what a freaking day.
Bountiful.
- Crazy.
- Thank you, Lord.
Everybody grab your
Grab your fishies?
Grabbing fishies.
Yeah!
I mean, this is the best meal
in Alaska right now.
Today was the first day
I had a full meal.
I could not believe
how everything has turned around.
I want to eat it just like that.
Look at it dripping.
Boy, that fat
drips out of there.
Yep, that's ready.
Dang, that was crazy.
But as the new guy, I realized that there
is a bit of that prove-it mentality.
- That was good.
- It was so delicious.
I feel like you've got to work to eat,
so to speak.
I had a dream at, like, 4:00 a.m.
that I was going to grab Eric some coffee.
Did you get me a cup?
Should we grab some little pieces
of wood to stick down there?
I can go grab some.
All right.
Yeah, there's some. I'll try to get some.
Eric and Joey, they got a thing going on.
Um, did you want a skewer, Chef?
Yeah.
A bit weird to me.
Give me another piece.
Joey is very uncertain about himself,
and Eric had a couple issues as far as
how he talks to people,
and how he handles situations.
It seems like Eric's
trying to get somebody on his side.
It seems like Joey is trying everything
that he possibly can
to prove himself with Eric,
and it's been kind of bizarre.
It's weird.
Dude, are you, like,
in your element right now?
I'm enjoying life.
As days pass,
a full moon draws near,
and the tide recedes to its lowest point
since the players' arrival.
The water in this part of Alaska
can rise and fall around 15 feet per day.
I really hope
that shovel helps today.
I hope y'all get
a lot of food today.
We found a ton by the river.
-There's some. Definitely
-Yeah. Look at all these holes. Mm.
-Jackpot. Yeah.
-Let's start digging.
Cool. This is like a great opportunity
to practice the shovel.
Stuck in the mud.
Feeling like a prospector,
looking for gold.
Oh, God. I feel like
I'm just breaking shells in here.
Ooh, I already crushed one. I can feel it.
-You did?
-Yeah.
Bri walks me out to the beach
to show me how she's been finding clams.
Gosh dang it.
Oh my God.
I realized that this would probably be
easier if we had some different tools.
It's not the best shovel.
It's really heavy.
It doesn't help at all.
We might have to ask the boys
if they can make it a slight more
Deeper, yeah.
More 90-degree angle,
but they wouldn't anyway.
- No, they'd quote some stupid movie.
- They
Sounds about right.
Drew and Drake's immature behavior makes
things difficult for the team dynamic.
Being hungry, this is
a life-threatening situation, potentially,
and I am the only person
who can get myself out of it.
I think from now on, I need to step up
and to manipulate the outcome.
Part of the reason I'm here
is to live with and learn from
people that have different upbringings
than I do, different lifestyles than I do.
-Yeah, I agree.
-But I'll stand up for what I believe in.
With these guys,
you have to be like, "Guys, shut up."
I know.
Emily is such a kind soul,
and she's very determined.
I am happy she is starting
to emerge as a leader.
- Okay. It squirt me.
- It squirted.
- Nice.
- Yeah. Here you go.
-This is a minefield here
-Yeah.
in this one tiny, little spot.
I can't think of any better way
to spend time on the beach.
Than digging for clams in Alaska?
Than getting
extremely muddy and cold.
- Plenty of clams out here?
- Yes, Lord.
- Flip it.
- Got it? One
Oh shit, yeah. Come here, you.
Yo, where are the clams at?
Are they around here?
Right here. Come on over.
I'll show you what's going on here.
I'll give you a quick tutorial.
You put your finger in that hole
and just start digging down.
Joey's kind of a greenhorn,
but I also am a great teacher
and love to teach people new skill sets.
So hopefully he learns some things.
So for me, I look for See how the rocks
are here and the rocks are there?
Yeah.
They feel like
they funnel into this area.
I feel like Eric's showing off
for the new dude.
Oh, yeah. That shelter,
you know, that was all his idea.
- Yeah.
- I just keep my mouth shut.
I've seen too much lies,
and it's just like, he's not our leader.
- Oh, man.
- There's a butter clam.
- Oh my gosh, dude.
- Yeah, look at that thing.
-Yeah, dude.
-It's, like, just glistening in the sun.
Oh my gosh.
! Dang.
Dang, dude, that stings.
You'll be all right.
We'll rinse We gotta rinse them off
in the salt water and clean them up.
Yeah.
You're done.
-I wouldn't dig with that hand anymore.
-They're both bleeding.
- Both of them are bleeding?
- Both middle fingers.
You're done. Rinse your hands off,
head to camp, and
, dude.
get it taken care of ASAP.
Digging for clams,
I ended up cutting both my fingers.
It's all right.
I'm going to keep digging.
A portion of my finger, like,
the full surface was exposed.
Clam injuries.
And I have to use my hands.
I'm using them every day.
I'm chopping wood. I'm picking at stuff.
And I am concerned
that Delta could just vote me off.
And I don't want something so stupid
to just get me out.
We got a blood trail.
- That sucks.
- See it?
Yeah, I see it. Right there.
I hate to admit it,
but Eric's buddy, Joey,
now, that poor kid maybe
was not a good choice for the team.
Not a good thing out here right now.
An infection can travel pretty quick
with nothing with no help out here, so
Joey, I like him a lot,
but the dude's kind of a doofus.
- Oh my gosh! Dang it!
- Oh no.
Cut his finger on a clam.
Comes up, boils some water.
Going to go sterilize it,
and instead of pouring the water on,
he takes one of our drinking water cans
and dunks his finger directly into it.
How's your hand?
I'm trying to just soak it for a second.
It's pretty freaking gross.
I was going to yell at Joey about it,
but I'm like,
"I'm not going to be that guy today."
But, man, it was eating me up.
You know, hopefully
he thinks things through a bit better.
What do you think of this new kid?
-Good?
-I don't know.
We're just going to have to see.
Can't fix stupid.
What the hell?
I hate this fire.
The fire's just not doing well.
It doesn't seem to matter what I do.
Nothing's doing well.
It has been a really tough day.
I am completely exhausted.
And the fire doing her bitch-ass thing
and not wanting to stay lit.
It has been tough.
I tell myself, you know, there's nothing
you can't do for one minute.
You can do anything for a minute.
All you gotta do is
get through the next minute.
- Yeah, that's not going to stay in.
- Huh?
That's not going to stay in.
What's that?
That seafood.
I got to get my boots on.
Oh no.
But nausea bothers me a lot,
because I don't really know
why I feel so nauseous.
I'm sorry.
It's not your fault.
It was definitely worth a try,
but it's definitely coming back up.
I finally make my way back in the hut.
You want some water?
- What was that?
- Water?
No, I don't want nothing.
The vomiting did something to me,
because all of a sudden,
the shivering is more like convulsions,
and I'm flopping around like a dying fish.
I get under her blanket with her,
and then I take my blanket
and I wrap it around both of us.
And, you know, we're sitting there
spooning, and I'm giving her body heat.
You have to stay warm too.
Whatever had to be done
to get her taken care of.
Tre.
Tre.
- Tre.
- Mm.
I don't think I'm okay.
- You're not okay?
- I don't think I'm okay.
What are you feeling?
There's weird feelings in my head.
It feels like the floor
is going up and down.
Want me to go get the medic?
Yeah.
Can you just ask him if I'm okay?
Tonia, are you requesting
medical treatment?
I I'm not.
I just want to know if I'm okay.
She is not requesting treatment.
She just wants to know
if she's okay or not.
Stand by.
I'll be honest with you.
You don't look okay to me.
If your health is at risk,
I'd rather you go home
than trying to fight it out.
Tonia?
Tonia, you still with us?
Tonia?
Yo.
Tonia's lost consciousness.
