We're gonna see some of

[commentator 2] Lyles for the double,
but is there a question mark
because Tebogo looked
absolutely phenomenal in the semifinal.
[Letsile] Going into that final,
I think of my mom.
That feeling of missing her
because there are a lot of hurdles,
ups and downs of being an athlete
that we went through together.
EST.
Elizabeth Seratiwa Tebogo.
My mom's names.
But I'm not I'm not the favorite.
The king of 200 meter is Noah Lyles.
[Lance] If we've got time,
we'll get one more in.
[Noah] I'm definitely not 100%.
I have no idea what's gonna happen.
Despite what's going on,
I can still push through.
Despite the challenge.
That just fuels my fire.
Hey, man.
You know we train in Florida,
right? We're firemen.
You know that?
We ain't scared of the heat.
We ain't scared of nobody

Everybody wanna make fire,
but nobody want to put the fire out,

Bro, put the fire out.

Control that shit.
[Kenny] I gotta make sure to stay

I'm just ready to tear up the track.

I mean, these guys are really fit.
No, we've got this, man.
[in English] Got you, brother.
I'd like to see a double gold.
You hear me? Let's do it.

Go in there, execute your fucking race,

No pressure on you.
You got me? Let's go have some fun.

I had to fight through allergies,
sickness. Constantly.
And here I am again, at the highest level,

I'm just gonna let my feet do the talking.

[commentator] Lyles needs
to mount his charge now.
But look at Tebogo!
[Letsile] My mom
is just waiting for me at the finish line.
I'm coming for that gold medal.
[commentator] He's going to make history!
The first African man to win this title!
[dramatic music playing]
[cheering]
[commentator] We very, very rarely
see Lyles lose over 200 meters.
The pressure. The weight of expectation.
Maybe this time, even for him,
it was a step too far psychologically.
This time, Lyles had no answer.
[crowd cheering]
[commentator] Letsile Tebogo
has done it for Botswana,
and he's done it for his mother.
[Letsile] My mom,
she was just there to guide me,
just to show me the right path.
I knew I was carrying,
uh, her body on my back,
because she has been carrying me
throughout my entire life.
[commentator] Seratiwa,
his mom, would be so proud.
[Letsile] Against all odds, I did it.
As an Olympic champion,
I live with a happy smile, you know.
I did it!
[uplifting music playing]
[commentator] A great effort
from Bednarek.
A silver here in Paris.
[Sharmila] I'm happy he beat Noah.
I love Noah, but he be trash talking
my baby, so, Noah Lyles, sh!
[Kenny] I did beat Noah,
but I still didn't accomplish
what I wanted.
I didn't get the gold.
But then my mom was just ecstatic.
She was overwhelmed with happiness.
[Mary Ann laughs]
Oh, you don't know how I cried at this.
[kisses] Oh! Yippee!
Oh, God bless.
- And you did great against, you know
- [Kenny] I almost had it.
- You did! You did good! You did good!
- [Kenny] That close!
Yes, get it next time.
[Kenny] When I was a kid, I always said
I was gonna be an Olympian and then,
you know, the fact
that I'm actually an Olympian
and she's actually there to witness it,
I mean, yeah,
it's just it's just an amazing feeling.
[Mary Ann crying]
[woman] Glasses off.
[Kenny] You know,
she was crying, giving me a hug.
So that that was just
a special moment between me and her.
[Dennis] You know,
this is the Olympics, man.
This is the best in the world.
Like, planetary.
Not, like, countries.
This is the best on the planet.
So if you're going for gold
and you get silver or bronze,
you're still in good company, man.
Still in good company.
[tense music playing]
[commentator 2] Noah Lyles
didn't have quite the same pop.
[Junelle] I was sitting there
with Ms. Keisha, and we're holding hands.
We were just praying.
We saw him go down,
and that's where,
like, all the panicking started.
[Noah] I just get
a strong pain in my chest,
and it literally feels
like my muscles are ripping.
And I just I had to go to the ground,
'cause I couldn't breathe.
[commentator 2] As we look, you wonder
if there's something with him
physically here that is not the same.
[man] Is he okay?
He's sick.
Yeah, I mean, he's been sick for two days.
[man speaks indistinctly]
Yeah.
They're just doing the most.
[Noah] So the race
didn't go exactly to plan,
but that bronze medal means so much to me
because I feel it encapsulates
my childhood in that one medal.
The fight I had to go through
as a young kid
is the same challenge I had to go through
at the Olympics as an adult.
And being able to say, "Despite this,
I'm still going to go after my dream."
I got third.
Huh.
I got third with Covid. [chuckles]
I'm pretty amazing. [chuckles]
[Junelle] I said he did good,
because even 3:00 a.m. last night,
I had to be touching him,
the way he was coughing.
[Noah coughs]

the relay is huge.

to get that first gold medal ever.
[woman] Be aggressive. Push the stick

through the elbow. Stable wrist.

Push! Push! Push! Push! Push!
[Allyson] In the women's 4x1,

Here we go!
Come on. Ho! Ho!
Use those arms, Melissa. Use those arms!
He has Sha'Carri Richardson.
He has Melissa Jefferson.
And he has TeeTee Terry.
[TeeTee] To leave Paris with a gold medal
and be able to call myself
an Olympic gold medalist,
it would definitely mean a lot.
[panting]
[Allyson] But it is not easy.
You go from being
fierce competitors with someone.
You have to now come together
and be teammates.
- [Gabby] That was so good.
- [Mechelle] It was good. Yeah.
TeeTee, I like how you kept running.
Whoo!
[Mechelle] Yeah,
that's what I'm talking about.
Gabby, that was all you needed to do,
was fix that damn stance.
It's honestly kind of weird
just the way we compete
against each other all season
and then have to come together
and be a team.
[Mechelle] Push! Push! Push! Push! Push!
[Gabby] The other three girls
train together in Florida,
so they kind of had that that chemistry.
[Mechelle] Okay, so two things on that.
Gabby, you just literally missed her hand.
So, Sha'Carri, don't move.
[Sha'Carri] Don't move, okay.
- I started feeling for it.
- [Mechelle] Don't move.
- [Sha'Carri] Okay.

[Ato] In recent memory,
the US relay has been plagued at times
by some big blunders.
They've dropped the baton
in the Olympics in 2008.
[commentator] Real disappointment
for the USA.
[Ato] When both teams
did not make the final.
Hugely disappointing there.
And this year,
we all know how the US men 4x1 turned out.
[commentator 2] That was a terrible
exchange between Coleman and Bednarek,
and their aspirations are over.
[Ato] It's one of the beautiful things
about the relay.
You can have the four
fastest men or women on the planet.
If you do not properly pass that baton,
you will lose.

[Gabby] Everybody is very determined
to get a gold medal.
Sha'Carri Richardson,

[Mechelle] All right, real quick.
Be the best first leg out there,
be the best second in the world,
be the best third leg in the world,
be the best fourth leg in the world,

- In the world.
- [Mechelle] All right? Here.
Execute on three. Here we go.
Execute on three. Execute on me.
- One, two, three. Execute!
- Execute!
[Dennis] We're prepared, and we're ready
for this Olympic final.
The disappointment of losing
a race that you wanted
would be a tough pill to swallow.

the toughest thing about the Olympics
is you gotta wait
four years to do it again.
