Honest Renovations (2023) s02e05 Episode Script
Season 2, Episode 5
So, today's the day.
-Today's the day.
-We're gonna go into your dad's room.
-We're gonna clear some stuff out.
-I'm excited,
nervous, anxious, everything.
-But I'm ready.
-That's good.
Look, I like that energy.
I tried to brace myself
as best as I could.
I'm feeling really, like,
overwhelmed, stressed.
I don't know if I'm afraid
or exactly what it is,
I'm just not too sure of what to expect.
All right, so it doesn't look like
the living room that you left, but
everything is here.
Oh, wow.
This is crazy.
So, basically, what we have done
is we've gone through
and created categories.
Here is a lot of the technology things.
Bedding, personal items,
clothes and then his tools.
Amy also has a really cool system
where she teaches you
how to donate, give away and keep.
She knows how to declutter
and keep the pieces
that are really important.
I think it might be really,
like, good for you
to now see the space
since everything is out here,
it's all cleared out.
You want to take a look at the room?
-Yes.
-Yeah? Okay.
Wow.
How is that? Tell me.
Unbelievable. Unbelievable.
I don't feel how I thought
I was gonna feel today.
I feel really good.
I'm in disbelief.
-Good.
-I can't believe y'all did it.
Tam, and the room is so big.
-Yeah.
-It is very big.
-Tall ceilings.
-Yeah.
-Yeah, I-I'm excited.
-Yay!
-I am, too.
-I'm like, wow.
I think this is a really good feeling
to now take into this room, and let's
start going through some of this stuff.
-I see her smiling.
-I know.
I'm like, "Let's go."
Let's get the Nimble Nesters in here.
We're doing
a color coding system,
so you and I can just mark things
with blue tape,
and those things will stay with us.
I think it's easiest if we start
with a smaller category.
Are these books
that you would want to keep?
-For sure the Bible and
-Great.
I want to keep these books
to pass down to Reya.
-I love that. That's so special.
-Yeah.
-I'm not gonna keep this stuff.
-Okay.
Great. Do you want us to slow down?
-You're okay? Okay.
-Mm-hmm.
I thought we were gonna
come into a lot of tears today.
I really did.
But I think that there is
a powerful thing that happens,
especially when you're in a situation
where you feel like you are not alone.
Whatever speaks to you, we keep,
and whatever doesn't, we can donate.
-I'm gonna give it.
-I'll keep this one to give to a cousin.
-Mm-hmm.
-Okay, so, everything else
-on this rack.
-Well, maybe I'll just
I'm sorry, I'll just keep this one.
-That's okay.
-Yeah, this one.
He wore that to my graduation.
-Really?
-Yeah.
Honestly, I'm excited,
because there's a whole group
of people that are here to support me,
and they care enough to help me
with the task at hand.
And I'm not in this alone.
This does not have blue on it.
-This is trash.
-Correct.
-Okay.
-It's like the coin flipped,
and it's completely opposite
of what I've been feeling
for, like, the last two years.
It was my grandma's writing desk.
-Oh, wow.
-Yeah.
Reminds me of her.
-We'll make sure to put this aside. Okay.
-I would like to keep this.
So do you feel lighter
during this process?
A weight is lifted, literally, off of me.
The cloud is moving. I can see the light.
-Wow.
-Yeah.
Tam, that's deep. Hold up, that's deep.
I mean, can I make eye contact with you
for a second?
And I'm just like,
"I feel so much better."
But you know what, though?
Because I think that means a lot.
It brings me so much joy for her
that she doesn't feel
so weighed down as much,
that she doesn't feel so heavy
and that this is something
to get excited about.
-Oh, these are amazing.
-Mm-hmm.
These are my grandparents' vinyl records.
-Wow.
-Mm-hmm.
"Ain't Gonna Bump No More
(With No Big Fat Woman)".
-What?
-Joe Tex.
-Legit.
-Oh, is that
-Yes.
-Yes.
-Like, I'm really excited.
-This is a treasure, to have these.
You honestly have surprised me
a lot today.
I will say. You know,
I think the energy and the strength
that you came in here with is remarkable.
I mean, you really have--
you've powered through.
Are you ready,
when you come back in here for it
-to be totally transformed?
-Yeah, I'm falling
Just get ready to pick me off the floor.
From excitement.
-Look, I'm-a be right here like this.
-Yeah.
-Get ready. Brace yourself.
-I got you. I got you.
Well, you know what I hope?
When we first came here the first day,
Reya was wiping away your tears.
She knew you were sad,
and she was wiping away your tears.
And when you come back,
I hope that she's smiling from ear to ear,
just as big as you are, I hope.
-That's my goal. If I see that,
then I feel like we've done a good job.
-Yeah, you will see it.
-Okay.
-I'm-I'm sure of it.
-All right, let's go.
We got, we got things to do.
-All right.
Yes, we do. Most definitely.
Here we go. All right.
Got a lot of stuff, like, cleared out.
That's nice.
-Yeah.
-Man.
Listen, before we do
what we have to do today,
-I brought gear.
-I appreciate it.
We are ripping up the carpet
in her father's room.
And from what I understand, that carpet
has not been touched in, like, years.
Carpet's gross.
You know what it is?
I think with carpet
-Yeah.
-it holds so much dander and, like,
-germs
-I'm not getting this
over my boot very well.
-Tinku. Dude.
-Look at this.
You're like a kid.
I have to get you dressed, too?
Let's go play.
Not exactly how I like to play,
but all right.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Oh, my
This is what carpet does.
You know what I mean?
Like, after years and years.
And it's hard to maintain
if you're not constantly cleaning it.
-All right, we got some work to do.
-All right.
I'm so glad we're suited and booted.
This is not quite booted.
-Well
-This is more like
You got your baby boots on.
-Peekaboo. Peekaboo.
-Suited
-I see you. Peekaboo.
-Suited
-and baby booted.
-Yes.
We're ready.
Definitely, like, musty.
I mean, I can still smell it through this.
-You can?
-Can you not?
No. Thank God.
-Whew.
-Yeah, look how bad this is.
Dude, that's, like,
that's a lot, a lot, a lot,
a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot of stuff
that just, over time, has accumulated.
-Yeah. Let's keep going.
-Come on.
Ooh!
-Hey, Tinku. This is, like, wild, dude.
-Oh, man.
You know, I just think it's convenient
that Jessica misses
-all, like, the
-Yeah. How does that work?
You know what? She'd be over there
standing with her teacup,
-talking about,
"Good job, guys, good job."
-I know.
She's a great cheerleader.
Ooh.
Ooh-ee!
-I know. Let's get
-Jesus,
hold the wheel!
Don't worry, I got it.
Oh, there you go.
-All right.
-Oh, my God.
There's so much stuff coming up,
I can't take it!
I just can't.
-Wow.
-So, this is Dad's room.
This is Dad's room.
-This is Dad's room
all cleared out.
-This is wild.
-It is wild.
-You couldn't even get to the back of it.
No, you couldn't get through anything.
And you skipped the best day
when Tinku and I
were pulling out the carpet.
Oh, what was it like?
I mean, it hadn't been touched
-In years?
-since the house was built.
-Oh, wow.
-Legit.
-Lot of history in that carpet.
-Oh, that's your word for it?
That's-- yeah. "History."
That's a good word. That's a good word.
But to be honest with you,
I think my biggest surprise was Tam.
I thought she was gonna be
super emotional.
Literally, she was ready for a new change,
-a new transition, this new process.
-Mm-hmm.
And her head was in the game.
I was really proud of her.
I mean, as much as she wants
the family home she grew up in,
at the same time,
it needs to be reimagined.
-Yeah. Look, she's ready
for the next chapter.
-And for her Yeah.
All right, so we need to talk about
where we can fit laundry.
We were gonna, like,
divide the whole room up
and bring the laundry inside
and do, like, a laundry room.
Right.
This is a challenge for us
because we're bringing
the laundry inside of the house,
but we don't know how much space to allot
for Father's room that will now become
Tam's office, and how much space
do we put for the laundry?
Do we want to put the laundry
here?
-Mm-hmm.
-Essentially-- 'cause you
you're-- we're stuck with this window.
-Right.
-So this window
would have to be in the laundry area.
-Right.
-And so it would be putting, like
a washer/dryer this way,
which doesn't give a ton of room.
-That's just not even enough room.
-To walk through. Right.
-I mean, you take
-You literally would have to go
all the way to here.
If we wanted to do a laundry room
You'd have to split the room in half.
Yeah.
And that's crazy,
to give an office this small
-Well, that's the bigger
-and then have
the laundry room be that big,
-just for, like, wiggle room.
-Right.
-Yeah, it doesn't make sense.
-The bigger need
-The bigger need is the office.
-Is the office.
Not the laundry.
-We can do for that.
-So if we did a stackable here.
How do you do a stackable?
I don't know, do a 3D image?
-I'm trying.
-Yes.
And then another one up there.
-Sure.
-That's the-- you know what?
That's probably your best drawing yet.
Maybe I should just start
giving you markers and walls.
-This is, this is so much better
than our design meeting.
-Okay.
Jess's drawings are always comical.
Your drawings aren't any better.
-You know what?
-So what are we even talking about?
-Tam is now a winner.
-Yeah,
-she has her laundry inside.
That's so much better.
-Tam is now a winner.
-I like this.
-Winning.
Okay, so, obviously, so I found the desk,
-and look how cool it is.
-This is cool.
-Isn't this, like, so
-This is something that if I found
at, like, a vintage store,
I would buy it, I'd refurbish it.
-Restore it?
-This is really cool.
-Res-- yeah, this is great.
-You know, and to be honest with you,
besides, literally, like,
these little patches
and, like, a little bit up here,
-it's in really great shape.
-This is awesome.
Yeah. All the hinges work.
All the hinges work.
Nothing's, like, unstable.
And their Bibles are in here.
-I know. That's just really special.
-That's sweet.
-Really special.
-So we'll clean it up and--
So, yeah, we're gonna get this,
like, all situated.
-So this is one thing that I found.
-Nice. I love it.
Also
-We found all of these records.
-This is cool.
Because these records are,
like, they're throwbacks.
-Sheila E.
-Oh, yeah.
Like, you know what I'm saying?
-Like, it's all the favorites from--
-Yeah, not--
I mean, I-I remember Sheila E.,
so let's not--
Let's not say
it's that much of a throwback.
Oh, my God. Terrence Trent D'arby.
-He was fine!
-I just--
-That's-- No.
-Do you remember him?
He was fine.
-That was before my time.
-Yeah, right.
These are the records that her family
used to play when she was younger,
like, her grandma and her dad.
All of their record labels are really
dope colors, so there has to be something
-really sentimental and cool.
-Yeah.
-That we can do.
-There's one entrepreneur, this chick
who, like, takes photos of-of people's,
like, family heirlooms, right?
Oh, yeah, The Heirloomist.
-The Heirloomist.
-The Heirloomist.
-That makes sense.
-Yeah.
-Yes. Okay.
-Let's take these to her.
Let's see, I think she'll have
some good ideas.
Yeah. This is gonna be so cool.
I love that.
Hold on. Watch my fingers. Okay.
Cool.
Nice.
These are the cabinets.
-Oh, they look good.
-So we have to actually build
a cabinet and then we mount it.
-I got this part.
-Instructions.
First, find A.
Then we're gonna find BBD.
-So this is gonna be
the inside of the cabinet?
-Yep.
You seriously always miss the hard stuff.
I don't know how that happens.
I mean, it's not like I'm not working
on stuff. I have
to line things up and keep
everything else in motion
-while you're at the house.
-You know?
I know how to line things up, too, okay?
Yeah, but you secretly
just want Tinku's job.
-Don't lie.
-I do.
See? Everybody wins.
You know what could be
really helpful on this?
What's that? What's that?
-A third person. Yeah.
-A third person? Yeah, that would be nice.
I kind of know somebody, too.
This is definitely crooked down here,
Tinku.
Yeah, no, you got to kick that off.
There you go.
Tam's kitchen was a mess.
The original cabinets were
literally falling off at the hinges.
And as much as she tried to make it work,
it just wasn't safe for her or Reya.
So not only are we giving her
all new cabinets,
but we also expanded the kitchen
to give her more cabinets.
20 new cabinets,
and they aren't gonna build themselves.
Just wanted to let you know, I never want
to make cabinets with you again.
All right, I got tiles.
-Hey.
-Oh, welcome.
-Wow. You guys did nothing.
-Were you waiting?
Absolutely nothing after
-Were you waiting for us to finish?
-Are you kidding me?
Come build cabinets with us.
Yeah, right. I know what I'm good at,
and I know what I'm not.
-What are you good at, carrying baskets?
-Yes.
I think it's fascinating
that Jess always seems to time it
perfectly when Tinku and I finish.
I just wait until you're done
with the stuff that's annoying.
What do you have? What is this?
All right, we have to figure out
the tile that we want for the counter
and the tile for the backsplash
in the kitchen.
Are we gonna be able to pick one today?
Tinku, we're on a time clock.
Yeah, today works.
-I'm hoping.
-Yes, we--
We got to get it done.
She loves yellow. We want bright.
We want fun, we want inviting.
We want exciting.
-We want sunshine.
-We want it all.
The only problem is, is that
when Jess and I get
into yellow discussions,
it does not end well. We just--
-I don't know. Like, we just--
-Do we like get--?
finding the perfect yellow,
I think, is very difficult.
-Hard.
-Yeah, it's very difficult.
And we're doing white cabinets,
as you can see,
-so it has to blend well.
-Yeah.
That's not bad.
We're already down to five.
This one looks like puke to me,
so I think that's a definite no for me.
But that's-- Puke.
You come from a family
that you guys have, like, sensitivities.
My dogs and my children puke all the time.
Ew. That is so nasty.
-At least once a week somebody's puking.
-That is so nasty.
-I'm just telling you this looks like
what comes out of their mouth.
-All right, so if this was
a countertop and a backsplash
That's beautiful to me.
I mean, I love it.
-I think it's so beautiful
-Or this?
There's specks of brown.
A counter-- a countertop and backsplash.
-This type of
-I feel like this is more her vibe.
-This is really traditional
-In the gray?
-So, yeah..
-A lot more traditional.
-Okay.
-And the backsplash?
And backsplash, the same.
-Countertop and backsplash.
-Oh, you want to do the whole thing up?
-We want it to go up. Yeah.
-Perfect.
-I think that's what we're gonna do.
-So it just looks kind of seamless and--
-Nice and easy.
I'm excited, you know why?
Because I think that why she thinks
she wants yellow
is because she wants to change
-the mood of this house, too.
-Yeah.
If we can bring the sunshine
in other ways,
then I think she'll be super happy.
Yeah.
-Team?
-I'm all good, oh.
-Go team.
-Oh. I thought that was a high five.
-Yeah.
-Let's do it again, I mean…
-High five. High five.
-Come on.
-We were on the same…
-team this time.
-We're, we're here.
-Okay, back.
-Which way do I go? I'm done.
We're done. Yes.
19 more to go. Hold on, I need my fingers.
-Okay. Yeah.
-Okay. Yeah.
-That took a little while.
-Whew. That's okay.
-We'll get faster. We'll get faster.
-Yeah, it'll be good.
Oh, dude!
You're breaking my cabinet, man.
Home Depot.
Literally, one of my favorite places ever.
-We need rollers. We need tape.
-Lots of paint.
Lots and lots of paint.
-Ooh.
-We need brushes.
-Do we need barbecue?
-Did you say "brushes"?
-We don't need barbecue.
-Are you sure?
-Stay focused, stay focused.
-These are cute. Or a smoker.
Stay focused.
We definitely need one of those.
Yep. Some value pack action.
Saving money.
We need some of these.
You use a lot of painter tape
randomly enough.
-Why are you judging me?
-I just am.
We need some brushes.
I feel like a kid when I actually,
I hold the basket all the time.
Like, I don't want to get lost.
So we are looking for low-VOC paint.
Low-VOC paint doesn't emit
-As much gas, that's right.
-as much gas as normal paints, so--
So I think it's really
great for kids in the house.
-For families, for all people.
-It's safer for families.
We are landing in this teal area.
So let's pull a couple of these swatches,
-and we can get them to mix.
-This one.
Pull a couple lighter ones, too.
We want to bring
the light back for Father's room
that will now become Tam's office.
We want to take that feeling
of feeling so dreary and down.
And we want to lighten up this space.
Or maybe this one.
Breezy, beautiful ocean vibes.
Or maybe this one.
Okay, cool.
-So we'll get that mixed up.
-Oh!
Can you grab some from the
-For the living room and dining room area?
-Yes.
-Something to brighten up the space.
-We want it bright and sunny.
So maybe somewhere in this range.
-Oh, and the Behr Ultra paint
-Mm-hmm?
-is perfect for high-traffic areas.
-Traffic areas.
-That's what I heard, too. Yeah.
-So
Which is great with kids.
Okay, this is, like, the perfect white.
-I love that white.
-It's not too stark white, not too yellow.
It's, like the perfect
Yeah, that one's actually really pretty.
-Yeah. All right.
-I think we got everything we need,
let's go, come on.
Look who I found. Tinku!
-Yeah.
-So you have to be part of making
our paint decisions
since you love doing this.
-So we got paint. What?
-Hold on. Guys?
Shut the noise.
-Do you see these floors?
-Oh, my gosh.
-These floors are beautiful.
-You didn’t notice?
Aren't they, like, gorgeous?
They're gorgeous.
-The floors turned out amazing
and we have…
-And actually
-like, extra wall.
-Shall we? Shall we?
Shall we shuffle over to the wall?
-Look at this.
-Our laundry room is now built.
Our laundry room is half built.
The room is, like,
exactly what it's gonna be.
Tinker, when's this gonna be done?
-The floors are amazing.
-Right now.
-Like genie in a bottle.
-All right.
Dad's room is now office.
-So let's figure out paint.
-Here, open.
Six variations of the same color?
-Yeah.
-Open.
'Cause you have to get the perfect color.
Is that what you do, huh?
-I got
- Baby!
This one is right.
All right.
And then we get to vote
on my favorite.
Okay, so since the paint
looks different
-on different walls, depending on
-The window, the light.
The window, the light,
the time of day, natural light.
Do some swatches, let it dry.
We're gonna come back
and then see what it looks like later.
I feel like Thai teal might dry lighter
or darker than what we're seeing now.
I think it'll dry darker.
Everything dries darker.
-All right, you know what, chill.
-Except for dog poop.
-It dries lighter.
-That's nasty. Once again, that's nasty.
You're making me
very uncomfortable right now.
Let's go grab something to eat,
let it dry.
Like, let the sun come down a little bit.
We'll make our decision when it gets
-a little bit dry.
-Great, let's go.
-She's driving, so I have to.
-Yeah.
Exactly. I don't want my ride to leave me.
-All right.
-All right.
Let's see how different it looks.
It's nighttime now.
-Mm-hmm.
-What do we think?
I almost want, like,
a lighter version of this.
I know.
I love the richness of this,
but my fear is that,
-because it's a small room
-It's gonna be too dark, yeah.
is it gonna read too dark
when we do ceilings,
-walls, and baseboards?
-Yeah.
-This is such a big decision.
-This is a huge decision.
-We have to be really clear.
-So it was a great test.
But since we're not super sold,
let's head back to Home Depot,
and get this lightened 50%.
-And see if we like that better.
-Or 70%. Whatever.
-70%, whatever.
-Yeah, we can, we can lighten it up.
-Yeah. Right.
-It's so easy there.
Okay, cool. Let's go.
Tinku.
We're on a mission today.
-All right.
-To alarm
and outfit the house and really
just kind of make it super safe.
-Tam's a single mom, you know what I mean?
-Mm-hmm.
So she's moving, like, when she's
in this house alone with baby,
-she's moving all over the place,
right like, I want her
-Yeah.
to feel really comfortable,
safe in her home.
She can see who's at the front door,
she can check it on her phone.
-Oh, nice.
-If she's in the back
or if she's with the baby.
This is going to give her peace of mind,
if there's any motion
or anything like that.
-Yeah.
-So, you want to put this one in the back?
-Yeah.
-And the nice thing,
it came with the solar panel, too.
I'm assuming we don't need
to plug this into the wall.
Like, we could just put that out
and it'll power it?
-So we don't have to, like, find any
-Electricity.
Oh, that's great.
That's so eco. I love that.
-Yes, eco's what I was thinking.
-I want one.
I was thinking, like, I just don't want
to run any kind of power anywhere else.
'Cause you're gonna be like,
"I want it right there."
Tinku, you sound like a real
lazy construction person right now.
You're like, "I want this done."
And then when we start working,
you're like,
"Maybe this and this and this,"
and, like, "Let's put a second story on."
I just love how you turned the fact
that you don't have to do more work
into me being
-not solidified
in my decision-making skills.
-Ah.
I tried to tell you,
anytime you do this, I get nervous.
-Okay, stop playing.
Let's go. Come on.
-I can do it. Why
-Grab all your stuff.
Let's go, man.
-All right.
-I don't feel like we need
to take all of it at once.
-Come on, let's go.
All right, so, we have
to figure out the layout
-Yes. Right.
-the cabinets.
We're gonna fit a desk in here,
good storage
Yeah. A couch.
-Work stuff.
-Office stuff.
-Office stuff.
-Yeah.
We are trying to fit so much in this room.
We're a little nervous right now
that not all of it is gonna fit well.
If you put it here, you still have room
-for a side clear.
-It's a little, I mean
The only problem
with putting the couch over here
is that you really only have space
for one side table.
It feels unbalanced.
-There, it feels like it's
a little bit more
-Like a moment?
A moment, and it's open in the room.
If we do couch here,
it'd be nice to have built-ins around it.
I agree.
We didn't have a lot of time
-to make
-Right.
-Mistakes.
-mistakes and go back
on a choice that we made.
Tam's gonna be at that door,
-waiting to move into her house.
-That's right.
And so, we needed to make sure
that we made the right decisions
prior to getting anything into that house.
Sometimes,
it just helps, like, feel it out.
There's nothing like
having boxes that really take up space
where you can really feel
how tight a space could feel.
Now, does this feel extra tight?
I don't think it feels that tight.
-Look. Sashay.
-Get it.
Shantay.
This is just us. This is what we do.
-We can twerk down.
-Oh, oh, oh.
-Oh, oh. Oh, oh.
-Just like a little
know what I'm saying?
-Oh, oh. Oh, oh.
-You see it? You see it? You get it?
-She has it.
-Okay.
I think it works. Locked and loaded.
Let's go.
Let's go boss Tinku around.
-All right, Lizzy.
-I mean, I feel like we're gonna
-brighten up this entire space.
-Yeah. It's amazing.
I love this low-VOC paint.
It's the Behr Ultra Scuff Defense.
-How do you
-And you know why we always pick it out?
-Why do we love this
-Because it's really good
for high-traffic areas.
-It is really good for high-traffic areas.
-You know?
-It goes on really smooth.
-It goes on really smooth.
-You're getting really,
you're getting really in there.
-What
You know what?
I feel like you just had
to go to the baseboard.
I feel like you just had to do it.
This is a fresh start. Tam, I think,
with the loss of her father,
has not felt like this place
or this home was the warmth that she felt
when he was around.
-And so
-I think, I think, between the loss
of her grandmother
and her father, that combo
was like a one-two punch.
Tam was almost waiting for permission
to move on, too.
I know that's what I needed.
So I'm hoping that we'd be able
to give that to her as well.
We hope that when she walks
through the door,
she sees a place
of optimism, of hope, of love.
She feels her grandmother's spirit
and her father's spirit.
But the best parts of it,
versus the grief and the loss.
-Yeah.
-I mean, that's what we're hoping for.
-How do you get to the top?
-What do you mean, dude?
You just have to, like, have legs.
Grow.
Are you getting paint on me?
-You got me, too.
-Don't put so much on.
Okay, now you just-- stop.
Stop. You doing the most.
-Tinku!
-Hey.
-Right, and the delivery
-Our delivery is here.
Yep.
Did you pick this one up from Home Depot?
-No, they dropped it off.
-Oh, they dropped it off.
-They dropped it off?
-I just brought it in.
And they could have installed it,
but I figured we have Tinku and so
-we're using Tinku instead.
-Yeah, why not?
-This'll be quick.
-But this is a game changer
-Do you want to take a look at it?
-for Tam.
We really didn't want her
to be outside doing the laundry.
No way.
No, not with that baby.
-No.
-The space wasn't safe.
This was one of the big ones
-Yeah.
-that we knew immediately
that we had to solve.
-Just cut right here.
-It's hard, right?
She got it. Look.
-Oh, my God.
-She's from Detroit. She
Yeah, just don't cut yourself.
I usually dread buying things online,
but Home Depot made it really easy.
I'm happy that it's here
and I didn't have to go pick it up.
So thank you.
Yeah, I'm happy, too,
'cause usually I have to borrow your truck
to pick up anything.
And then I have to load it.
Anyways
There we go. There we go.
Ooh! She's a beauty.
Very pretty.
I love the navy.
-What a cool pop of, like,
just nice color
-A little surprise and delight moment
-That she'll see walking down the hallway.
-when you're opening your
-Yeah, and it's just like
-Why not make washing
and drying fun?
All right, let's do this.
Should we get it installed?
-Yeah, you
-Let's go.
Jess and I got to get back
to our second coat of paint, so come on.
If you guys got this, if you can just
do me a favor and put the dryer on top.
-If you could.
-Got it?
Good?
Any day now.
Just a quarter of an inch more.
-Staging day.
-Yes.
I cannot believe we are finally here.
Are you not so excited for Tam?
-Beyond.
-Beyond excited.
Everything turned out so beautifully.
She's gonna be over the moon.
-Right?
-Do you set your table at home?
No, I make my kids do that.
What's the point of kids,
unless they do this?
-This has been a special one.
it really has.
-Yes.
Tam came into it
in a place of such transition in her life.
There was still so much sadness
that the space held, and
we were really focused
on how can we bring light, beauty,
warmth, comfort,
and really make space for new memories
with her and Reya.
I love the countertops.
I think we did a great job
-picking these out.
-And there's still so much light.
-It feels so airy.
-It's amazing.
Remember how dark it felt before?
-Oh, my goodness.
-Isn't that crazy?
-It elevates everything.
-Yeah.
-It's amazing.
-I really agree.
It's so beautiful.
She is gonna freak out.
This has been a home in her family
for multigenerations.
She remembers having Reya's room
as, uh, a little girl.
-Aww.
-So cute.
It's so sweet.
And her father had Reya's room
when he was a little boy.
-And so, this house has seen a lot
-A lot
-of change.
-over time and a lot of change,
but yet, the house has never changed.
-Little sunshine pillows.
-That's adorable.
It was nice to be able to come in
and kind of reimagine
-the entire space.
-And reinvigorate.
Like, keep the love,
but now bring a new light in
for her and Reya.
-The little Roku room camera.
-Yeah.
-She can keep an eye on Reya
when she's sleeping.
-Yeah.
And they used to co-sleep, remember?
It'll be great. She'll be able
to get a full night's sleep.
The baby can get a full night's sleep.
I like that her name means "sunshine,"
and we added
so many little elements of, like,
-sky and rainbows and sun.
-Rainbows. Sun.
-Sunflowers.
-And this is so cute.
Oh, that's made out of her dad's shirt.
Yes. Isn't this the sweetest thing?
Whatever speaks to you, we keep,
and whatever doesn't, we can donate.
He wore that to my graduation.
-Really?
-Yeah.
-Isn't that so gorgeous?
-So sweet.
And what a little, cute ode
to, like, family.
I love that idea.
And red was her dad's favorite color,
so we have little pops of red everywhere.
-It almost feels like a brand-new home,
in-in so many ways.
-Yeah.
-It's unrecognizable.
-It really is.
-I mean, it's a true
transformation of this home.
-You know? Yeah.
And I think the first time
she walks through,
it's gonna be a little bit of a shock.
It's time. Time.
Okay, come on. Let's grab it.
I think Tam is gonna love this house.
I think she's gonna feel so at home here.
Oh, my goodness.
Look at this hair.
Come here.
-Oh, my God.
-Hi.
-This is nuts. Oh, my gosh, Tam.
-I'm so excited.
You like, "New house, new me, new me."
-New year.
-Yes.
-Let's go.
-I'm ready.
-Let's go.
-How you doing?
-I'm-I'm great. I'm great.
-I'm excited.
-Yes? You are?
-We are, too.
-I'm not gonna lie, we're very excited.
-We are very excited.
-Okay.
-We really feel like
we put our foot into this one.
-Okay?
-Okay.
-This has been a journey.
-Yeah.
It's a whole new start,
it's a whole new moment.
And I really hope that you love it.
Yeah.
We wanted to honor and celebrate you
every decision we made.
The whole time,
we just kept on thinking, "happy."
"We want her to be happy."
-Warm, cozy and happy.
-Yes. Yes.
-I'm like, "Yes, yes."
-Yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes.
-What do you tell us?
What are you feeling?
-I'm excited.
-Are you nervous?
-Yes.
I'm like
-Come on.
-Okay.
I'm so excited.
Oh, my God.
Tam, you got to say something.
Oh, my God.
-You got to say something.
-It's beautiful.
-It's beautiful. Oh, my goodness.
-Tam, you got to say something.
I can't believe this is the same house.
I'm really thankful for you guys.
It's beautiful. Like,
I could not imagine nothing like this.
It's beautiful.
I'm really at a loss for words.
-Thank you so much.
-Of course.
You know, it's truly our honor
to help you with this.
And we really wanted you to come in and
have this feeling like you are at home.
-This is your home.
-I can't believe it.
I've been here my whole life.
I nev-- I never could imagine this.
-You deserve it.
-Thank you.
And you deserve the light
and happiness and the joy
that is inside you to come out.
And your daughter,
she's literally a ray of sunshine.
This is beautiful.
-Literally like
-I'm so excited.
You guys are talking, and I'm just like
I'm just trying to take it all in, 'cause
it's just so beautiful. Oh, my goodness.
-Did we nail it?
-It's You did more than nail it, okay?
You guys outdid yourselves,
-literally, like
-That's good.
And we know how important it is for you
to have things that we learned as moms
that is so helpful in the living room.
Oh, my goodness.
It's a beautiful furniture piece,
-but then it's also
-This is so cute.
It's an area that she can put her toys in.
Yeah. I love it. Yeah.
-And it's not all over the place.
-That's right.
-And we also have
a little hidden place down here.
-Okay.
-Oh, my goodness.
-Because who needs to go
to a room
-to change the diapers?
-Right.
-Oh, my goodness.
-This is, like, the most handy thing.
-Thank you so much.
-I had this with all three of my kids.
-Yes.
-And it's just, like, practical.
-I love it.
-Easy.
So, we just want to give you
little pockets of places
where you can tuck things away
so things don't feel cluttered,
so you still feel like it's a super clean,
open environment.
What I had done in the past
was just to try to not feel
down about my dad passing,
'cause I was just moving so quick,
trying to switch things out
to not feel like that.
But now I can walk in here,
and it's my grandmother's.
You know, it was her house,
but now it's our home, my daughter and I.
Even like with the seating,
I had that glass stuff,
and you guys made it
a cozy seating by the window.
You guys took
a lot of thought into everything.
Everything is just so beautiful.
I don't feel how I felt.
Good. This makes us so happy, though.
I feel like it's a dream.
Do you see the pop of wallpaper?
Yes. It's popping. I love it.
-Isn't it cute?
-Yeah.
We think it adds, like,
a little bit of whimsy.
And we wanted to bring in this miracle,
like, yellow color.
That's crazy 'cause that's, like,
my grandmother's favorite color,
-and she collected birds.
-Wow.
So it really reminds me
of my grandmother a lot.
Remember when we first came in,
you said, "I was trying to add yellow
because it made me happy,"
and so we tried to add
those different shades of yellow.
I never could imagine
that this is my house.
-Well, it's yours.
-I know, it is.
-It is yours. It is yours.
- It's beautiful.
-Do you want to see the kitchen?
-Yes.
-Go ahead.
-Turn around.
Oh, my gosh!
-Oh, my God.
-Isn't it beautiful?
Oh, my goodness.
I have to just pause for a second,
'cause you know
when anyone say,
"Oh, my goodness, oh, my goodness,"
-you know you got it right
with the, "Oh, my goodness."
-Right.
Yes.
I cannot.
And look at your refrigerator
and the stove, it all matches.
-Oh, I'm so fancy now.
-You fancy.
-Oh, you fancy, you fancy.
-Oh, you fancy.
-I am beyond fancy, beautiful gold.
-Okay.
-But look how much storage
we were able to give you, too.
-That was super important for us.
-I cannot.
We know, especially with Reya,
all of her things,
and we were able to provide
a lot more storage in this kitchen
for you.
-Even here.
-And still give you
sight into the living room,
or if she's here eating
-and open this whole thing up.
-Oh, y'all did.
And we created the same
kind of outline of the arch
-and this one to match that one.
-Oh, my goodness.
-So now it flows.
-You guys
Oh, it's so beautiful.
I was trying to imagine it,
but this is, like, beyond anything
that I could have ever imagined.
It's beautiful.
You have everything that you need.
This is truly a chef's kitchen.
-I'm gonna be in here
-Yes. Yes.
You better throw down in here, girl.
I cannot. I
I'm at a loss for words.
It's so beautiful.
Do you want to see more?
-Yes.
-But wait, there's more.
-But wait, there's more.
-All right.
I'm just, I'm still processing this.
I'm like
-Let's go.
-Okay. Oh.
It's beautiful.
-Oh, she's gonna love this.
-Welcome to
Reya's room of sunshine.
-And she has her own crib.
-Yes.
She is going to love this space.
It's so beautiful.
And everything is in here
for her from the drawers.
-Plenty of storage.
-Yes.
We wanted this sunshine vibe.
Literally, like out of a magazine.
Like
You guys did so amazing with this.
-Does this look familiar?
-Oh, my God.
You guys, that's my dad's shirt
from my graduation.
This is so pretty.
So, we wanted to make it
into something special for Reya.
And now Reya will always have it
in her room
as a piece from her grandpa.
And now it's a family heirloom.
Look, this is mine.
I love it.
-All right, you ready
for your last surprise?
-You ready?
Yes.
Okay.
Keep going, keep going.
-Keep going. Stop.
-And you're gonna stop right here.
And
We brought in your laundry.
-Wait.
-No more going in the garage.
I'm confused.
This is your new laundry spot.
How?
You gu-- I cannot handle this.
-This is your new laundry, for real.
-Okay.
And you know
what that door used to lead to.
-My dad's room.
-Are you ready to see it?
-Yes.
-Okay.
-Okay. Let's go.
-Okay.
It's beautiful.
You guys did everything.
The pictures my grandma took.
I got to sit down.
-Sweetheart.
-I'm overwhelmed.
I'm happy. I'm just really overwhelmed.
They're happy tears.
We also wanted to make this room
a space where you could start up again.
You might want to work from home.
You need an office space.
This is your moment to now
take all the love,
right, that this room had
and that your dad had for you.
-And now it's in a space for you.
-And it's reimagined.
-It's beautiful.
-And we have the records.
I see.
So we still have the originals.
Oh.
But there's an artist
called The Heirloomist,
and what she does is
she takes really cool pieces,
-heirlooms that people have
and turns it into art.
-And makes art pieces. Yeah.
I cannot believe this.
This is my house. Okay?
This is your house.
-My house. My house.
-You know what?
Wow. But look at that.
Can we take a moment for that?
Because, listen, you just said it.
You just said it so naturally,
authentically, out of--
This came out of your mouth.
This is your house.
-You've said you live here.
-Right.
But you haven't said
that this is your house.
It didn't really feel like, you know,
'cause I've been here
my whole life, pretty much.
So it's just like, I'm still here.
Of course. Of course.
-But I do feel a big
-Like, ownership.
-a-a change.
-Yeah.
I think it was the first time
that we heard her say
that this is her house.
Like, her taking ownership
over this house.
Yeah, and her actually feeling like,
"This is mine."
-Like, wow.
-Yeah. It's not her grandmother's house.
It's not her dad's house.
-It's her house.
-Yeah.
And the whole house,
from the kitchen to Reya's room
to now her office, it is all rooms
-that she can enjoy
-Yeah.
and use and just,
you know, be a part of.
-Whereas before, it wasn't like that.
-Very empowering.
Yeah.
I feel like I'm in a dream right now.
It's gonna take a while to process
and for reality to kick in,
like, this is real life.
We're so happy that you, like,
you're feeling so much joy in a space,
when we first walked into,
that it wasn't always that, you know?
And so now let's see you smile so hard.
-I'm, like Yeah.
-So hard.
-Like, so hard.
-Right.
-Oh, my goodness.
-That makes us feel so much joy,
because we're just so happy for you.
Honestly, I feel like
my grandmother and my dad
would be in disbelief,
as I am right now,
because it's just
such a new chapter to be able to see
the house transformed
and more modernized,
and it's unbelievable.
So, this is a little care package.
We always like to leave a parting gift.
There's some spa things for you,
some stuff for Reya,
so here's your little basket.
-It's kind of heavy.
-It's kind of heavy.
And then we have one more thing to say.
We know that with a new office
and with you working
and everything like that,
-we really want to
-Continue to support you.
And so we want to gift you
one month of childcare costs as well,
-just to give you
that extra little oomph
-Yeah.
to make sure that you're all good.
You guys just keep coming with the heat.
Thank you so much.
-This is a really great start,
and it's a great transition.
-Yeah.
-And what a beautiful office
to work from home from.
-I mean
And it's a great moment. Look at this.
It doesn't feel real.
-Well, it is.
-Right.
-Let it sink in.
-Trust me, for the last couple months,
-we've been doing all this, so it's real.
-Right.
-It's really real.
-It's real-real.
Okay. Okay.
-Felt like kind of a release from the old.
-Yeah.
Like she could really let go
of what the house meant to her,
how it was before, and she can
really step into this new self.
Look, mama.
I'm most definitely excited
for Reya to grow up in this home,
for us to create new memories.
You see your room?
It's so pretty.
I just feel like it's a brand-new chapter.
This is a fresh new start for us.
This is your papa's shirt.
-Today's the day.
-We're gonna go into your dad's room.
-We're gonna clear some stuff out.
-I'm excited,
nervous, anxious, everything.
-But I'm ready.
-That's good.
Look, I like that energy.
I tried to brace myself
as best as I could.
I'm feeling really, like,
overwhelmed, stressed.
I don't know if I'm afraid
or exactly what it is,
I'm just not too sure of what to expect.
All right, so it doesn't look like
the living room that you left, but
everything is here.
Oh, wow.
This is crazy.
So, basically, what we have done
is we've gone through
and created categories.
Here is a lot of the technology things.
Bedding, personal items,
clothes and then his tools.
Amy also has a really cool system
where she teaches you
how to donate, give away and keep.
She knows how to declutter
and keep the pieces
that are really important.
I think it might be really,
like, good for you
to now see the space
since everything is out here,
it's all cleared out.
You want to take a look at the room?
-Yes.
-Yeah? Okay.
Wow.
How is that? Tell me.
Unbelievable. Unbelievable.
I don't feel how I thought
I was gonna feel today.
I feel really good.
I'm in disbelief.
-Good.
-I can't believe y'all did it.
Tam, and the room is so big.
-Yeah.
-It is very big.
-Tall ceilings.
-Yeah.
-Yeah, I-I'm excited.
-Yay!
-I am, too.
-I'm like, wow.
I think this is a really good feeling
to now take into this room, and let's
start going through some of this stuff.
-I see her smiling.
-I know.
I'm like, "Let's go."
Let's get the Nimble Nesters in here.
We're doing
a color coding system,
so you and I can just mark things
with blue tape,
and those things will stay with us.
I think it's easiest if we start
with a smaller category.
Are these books
that you would want to keep?
-For sure the Bible and
-Great.
I want to keep these books
to pass down to Reya.
-I love that. That's so special.
-Yeah.
-I'm not gonna keep this stuff.
-Okay.
Great. Do you want us to slow down?
-You're okay? Okay.
-Mm-hmm.
I thought we were gonna
come into a lot of tears today.
I really did.
But I think that there is
a powerful thing that happens,
especially when you're in a situation
where you feel like you are not alone.
Whatever speaks to you, we keep,
and whatever doesn't, we can donate.
-I'm gonna give it.
-I'll keep this one to give to a cousin.
-Mm-hmm.
-Okay, so, everything else
-on this rack.
-Well, maybe I'll just
I'm sorry, I'll just keep this one.
-That's okay.
-Yeah, this one.
He wore that to my graduation.
-Really?
-Yeah.
Honestly, I'm excited,
because there's a whole group
of people that are here to support me,
and they care enough to help me
with the task at hand.
And I'm not in this alone.
This does not have blue on it.
-This is trash.
-Correct.
-Okay.
-It's like the coin flipped,
and it's completely opposite
of what I've been feeling
for, like, the last two years.
It was my grandma's writing desk.
-Oh, wow.
-Yeah.
Reminds me of her.
-We'll make sure to put this aside. Okay.
-I would like to keep this.
So do you feel lighter
during this process?
A weight is lifted, literally, off of me.
The cloud is moving. I can see the light.
-Wow.
-Yeah.
Tam, that's deep. Hold up, that's deep.
I mean, can I make eye contact with you
for a second?
And I'm just like,
"I feel so much better."
But you know what, though?
Because I think that means a lot.
It brings me so much joy for her
that she doesn't feel
so weighed down as much,
that she doesn't feel so heavy
and that this is something
to get excited about.
-Oh, these are amazing.
-Mm-hmm.
These are my grandparents' vinyl records.
-Wow.
-Mm-hmm.
"Ain't Gonna Bump No More
(With No Big Fat Woman)".
-What?
-Joe Tex.
-Legit.
-Oh, is that
-Yes.
-Yes.
-Like, I'm really excited.
-This is a treasure, to have these.
You honestly have surprised me
a lot today.
I will say. You know,
I think the energy and the strength
that you came in here with is remarkable.
I mean, you really have--
you've powered through.
Are you ready,
when you come back in here for it
-to be totally transformed?
-Yeah, I'm falling
Just get ready to pick me off the floor.
From excitement.
-Look, I'm-a be right here like this.
-Yeah.
-Get ready. Brace yourself.
-I got you. I got you.
Well, you know what I hope?
When we first came here the first day,
Reya was wiping away your tears.
She knew you were sad,
and she was wiping away your tears.
And when you come back,
I hope that she's smiling from ear to ear,
just as big as you are, I hope.
-That's my goal. If I see that,
then I feel like we've done a good job.
-Yeah, you will see it.
-Okay.
-I'm-I'm sure of it.
-All right, let's go.
We got, we got things to do.
-All right.
Yes, we do. Most definitely.
Here we go. All right.
Got a lot of stuff, like, cleared out.
That's nice.
-Yeah.
-Man.
Listen, before we do
what we have to do today,
-I brought gear.
-I appreciate it.
We are ripping up the carpet
in her father's room.
And from what I understand, that carpet
has not been touched in, like, years.
Carpet's gross.
You know what it is?
I think with carpet
-Yeah.
-it holds so much dander and, like,
-germs
-I'm not getting this
over my boot very well.
-Tinku. Dude.
-Look at this.
You're like a kid.
I have to get you dressed, too?
Let's go play.
Not exactly how I like to play,
but all right.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Oh, my
This is what carpet does.
You know what I mean?
Like, after years and years.
And it's hard to maintain
if you're not constantly cleaning it.
-All right, we got some work to do.
-All right.
I'm so glad we're suited and booted.
This is not quite booted.
-Well
-This is more like
You got your baby boots on.
-Peekaboo. Peekaboo.
-Suited
-I see you. Peekaboo.
-Suited
-and baby booted.
-Yes.
We're ready.
Definitely, like, musty.
I mean, I can still smell it through this.
-You can?
-Can you not?
No. Thank God.
-Whew.
-Yeah, look how bad this is.
Dude, that's, like,
that's a lot, a lot, a lot,
a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot of stuff
that just, over time, has accumulated.
-Yeah. Let's keep going.
-Come on.
Ooh!
-Hey, Tinku. This is, like, wild, dude.
-Oh, man.
You know, I just think it's convenient
that Jessica misses
-all, like, the
-Yeah. How does that work?
You know what? She'd be over there
standing with her teacup,
-talking about,
"Good job, guys, good job."
-I know.
She's a great cheerleader.
Ooh.
Ooh-ee!
-I know. Let's get
-Jesus,
hold the wheel!
Don't worry, I got it.
Oh, there you go.
-All right.
-Oh, my God.
There's so much stuff coming up,
I can't take it!
I just can't.
-Wow.
-So, this is Dad's room.
This is Dad's room.
-This is Dad's room
all cleared out.
-This is wild.
-It is wild.
-You couldn't even get to the back of it.
No, you couldn't get through anything.
And you skipped the best day
when Tinku and I
were pulling out the carpet.
Oh, what was it like?
I mean, it hadn't been touched
-In years?
-since the house was built.
-Oh, wow.
-Legit.
-Lot of history in that carpet.
-Oh, that's your word for it?
That's-- yeah. "History."
That's a good word. That's a good word.
But to be honest with you,
I think my biggest surprise was Tam.
I thought she was gonna be
super emotional.
Literally, she was ready for a new change,
-a new transition, this new process.
-Mm-hmm.
And her head was in the game.
I was really proud of her.
I mean, as much as she wants
the family home she grew up in,
at the same time,
it needs to be reimagined.
-Yeah. Look, she's ready
for the next chapter.
-And for her Yeah.
All right, so we need to talk about
where we can fit laundry.
We were gonna, like,
divide the whole room up
and bring the laundry inside
and do, like, a laundry room.
Right.
This is a challenge for us
because we're bringing
the laundry inside of the house,
but we don't know how much space to allot
for Father's room that will now become
Tam's office, and how much space
do we put for the laundry?
Do we want to put the laundry
here?
-Mm-hmm.
-Essentially-- 'cause you
you're-- we're stuck with this window.
-Right.
-So this window
would have to be in the laundry area.
-Right.
-And so it would be putting, like
a washer/dryer this way,
which doesn't give a ton of room.
-That's just not even enough room.
-To walk through. Right.
-I mean, you take
-You literally would have to go
all the way to here.
If we wanted to do a laundry room
You'd have to split the room in half.
Yeah.
And that's crazy,
to give an office this small
-Well, that's the bigger
-and then have
the laundry room be that big,
-just for, like, wiggle room.
-Right.
-Yeah, it doesn't make sense.
-The bigger need
-The bigger need is the office.
-Is the office.
Not the laundry.
-We can do for that.
-So if we did a stackable here.
How do you do a stackable?
I don't know, do a 3D image?
-I'm trying.
-Yes.
And then another one up there.
-Sure.
-That's the-- you know what?
That's probably your best drawing yet.
Maybe I should just start
giving you markers and walls.
-This is, this is so much better
than our design meeting.
-Okay.
Jess's drawings are always comical.
Your drawings aren't any better.
-You know what?
-So what are we even talking about?
-Tam is now a winner.
-Yeah,
-she has her laundry inside.
That's so much better.
-Tam is now a winner.
-I like this.
-Winning.
Okay, so, obviously, so I found the desk,
-and look how cool it is.
-This is cool.
-Isn't this, like, so
-This is something that if I found
at, like, a vintage store,
I would buy it, I'd refurbish it.
-Restore it?
-This is really cool.
-Res-- yeah, this is great.
-You know, and to be honest with you,
besides, literally, like,
these little patches
and, like, a little bit up here,
-it's in really great shape.
-This is awesome.
Yeah. All the hinges work.
All the hinges work.
Nothing's, like, unstable.
And their Bibles are in here.
-I know. That's just really special.
-That's sweet.
-Really special.
-So we'll clean it up and--
So, yeah, we're gonna get this,
like, all situated.
-So this is one thing that I found.
-Nice. I love it.
Also
-We found all of these records.
-This is cool.
Because these records are,
like, they're throwbacks.
-Sheila E.
-Oh, yeah.
Like, you know what I'm saying?
-Like, it's all the favorites from--
-Yeah, not--
I mean, I-I remember Sheila E.,
so let's not--
Let's not say
it's that much of a throwback.
Oh, my God. Terrence Trent D'arby.
-He was fine!
-I just--
-That's-- No.
-Do you remember him?
He was fine.
-That was before my time.
-Yeah, right.
These are the records that her family
used to play when she was younger,
like, her grandma and her dad.
All of their record labels are really
dope colors, so there has to be something
-really sentimental and cool.
-Yeah.
-That we can do.
-There's one entrepreneur, this chick
who, like, takes photos of-of people's,
like, family heirlooms, right?
Oh, yeah, The Heirloomist.
-The Heirloomist.
-The Heirloomist.
-That makes sense.
-Yeah.
-Yes. Okay.
-Let's take these to her.
Let's see, I think she'll have
some good ideas.
Yeah. This is gonna be so cool.
I love that.
Hold on. Watch my fingers. Okay.
Cool.
Nice.
These are the cabinets.
-Oh, they look good.
-So we have to actually build
a cabinet and then we mount it.
-I got this part.
-Instructions.
First, find A.
Then we're gonna find BBD.
-So this is gonna be
the inside of the cabinet?
-Yep.
You seriously always miss the hard stuff.
I don't know how that happens.
I mean, it's not like I'm not working
on stuff. I have
to line things up and keep
everything else in motion
-while you're at the house.
-You know?
I know how to line things up, too, okay?
Yeah, but you secretly
just want Tinku's job.
-Don't lie.
-I do.
See? Everybody wins.
You know what could be
really helpful on this?
What's that? What's that?
-A third person. Yeah.
-A third person? Yeah, that would be nice.
I kind of know somebody, too.
This is definitely crooked down here,
Tinku.
Yeah, no, you got to kick that off.
There you go.
Tam's kitchen was a mess.
The original cabinets were
literally falling off at the hinges.
And as much as she tried to make it work,
it just wasn't safe for her or Reya.
So not only are we giving her
all new cabinets,
but we also expanded the kitchen
to give her more cabinets.
20 new cabinets,
and they aren't gonna build themselves.
Just wanted to let you know, I never want
to make cabinets with you again.
All right, I got tiles.
-Hey.
-Oh, welcome.
-Wow. You guys did nothing.
-Were you waiting?
Absolutely nothing after
-Were you waiting for us to finish?
-Are you kidding me?
Come build cabinets with us.
Yeah, right. I know what I'm good at,
and I know what I'm not.
-What are you good at, carrying baskets?
-Yes.
I think it's fascinating
that Jess always seems to time it
perfectly when Tinku and I finish.
I just wait until you're done
with the stuff that's annoying.
What do you have? What is this?
All right, we have to figure out
the tile that we want for the counter
and the tile for the backsplash
in the kitchen.
Are we gonna be able to pick one today?
Tinku, we're on a time clock.
Yeah, today works.
-I'm hoping.
-Yes, we--
We got to get it done.
She loves yellow. We want bright.
We want fun, we want inviting.
We want exciting.
-We want sunshine.
-We want it all.
The only problem is, is that
when Jess and I get
into yellow discussions,
it does not end well. We just--
-I don't know. Like, we just--
-Do we like get--?
finding the perfect yellow,
I think, is very difficult.
-Hard.
-Yeah, it's very difficult.
And we're doing white cabinets,
as you can see,
-so it has to blend well.
-Yeah.
That's not bad.
We're already down to five.
This one looks like puke to me,
so I think that's a definite no for me.
But that's-- Puke.
You come from a family
that you guys have, like, sensitivities.
My dogs and my children puke all the time.
Ew. That is so nasty.
-At least once a week somebody's puking.
-That is so nasty.
-I'm just telling you this looks like
what comes out of their mouth.
-All right, so if this was
a countertop and a backsplash
That's beautiful to me.
I mean, I love it.
-I think it's so beautiful
-Or this?
There's specks of brown.
A counter-- a countertop and backsplash.
-This type of
-I feel like this is more her vibe.
-This is really traditional
-In the gray?
-So, yeah..
-A lot more traditional.
-Okay.
-And the backsplash?
And backsplash, the same.
-Countertop and backsplash.
-Oh, you want to do the whole thing up?
-We want it to go up. Yeah.
-Perfect.
-I think that's what we're gonna do.
-So it just looks kind of seamless and--
-Nice and easy.
I'm excited, you know why?
Because I think that why she thinks
she wants yellow
is because she wants to change
-the mood of this house, too.
-Yeah.
If we can bring the sunshine
in other ways,
then I think she'll be super happy.
Yeah.
-Team?
-I'm all good, oh.
-Go team.
-Oh. I thought that was a high five.
-Yeah.
-Let's do it again, I mean…
-High five. High five.
-Come on.
-We were on the same…
-team this time.
-We're, we're here.
-Okay, back.
-Which way do I go? I'm done.
We're done. Yes.
19 more to go. Hold on, I need my fingers.
-Okay. Yeah.
-Okay. Yeah.
-That took a little while.
-Whew. That's okay.
-We'll get faster. We'll get faster.
-Yeah, it'll be good.
Oh, dude!
You're breaking my cabinet, man.
Home Depot.
Literally, one of my favorite places ever.
-We need rollers. We need tape.
-Lots of paint.
Lots and lots of paint.
-Ooh.
-We need brushes.
-Do we need barbecue?
-Did you say "brushes"?
-We don't need barbecue.
-Are you sure?
-Stay focused, stay focused.
-These are cute. Or a smoker.
Stay focused.
We definitely need one of those.
Yep. Some value pack action.
Saving money.
We need some of these.
You use a lot of painter tape
randomly enough.
-Why are you judging me?
-I just am.
We need some brushes.
I feel like a kid when I actually,
I hold the basket all the time.
Like, I don't want to get lost.
So we are looking for low-VOC paint.
Low-VOC paint doesn't emit
-As much gas, that's right.
-as much gas as normal paints, so--
So I think it's really
great for kids in the house.
-For families, for all people.
-It's safer for families.
We are landing in this teal area.
So let's pull a couple of these swatches,
-and we can get them to mix.
-This one.
Pull a couple lighter ones, too.
We want to bring
the light back for Father's room
that will now become Tam's office.
We want to take that feeling
of feeling so dreary and down.
And we want to lighten up this space.
Or maybe this one.
Breezy, beautiful ocean vibes.
Or maybe this one.
Okay, cool.
-So we'll get that mixed up.
-Oh!
Can you grab some from the
-For the living room and dining room area?
-Yes.
-Something to brighten up the space.
-We want it bright and sunny.
So maybe somewhere in this range.
-Oh, and the Behr Ultra paint
-Mm-hmm?
-is perfect for high-traffic areas.
-Traffic areas.
-That's what I heard, too. Yeah.
-So
Which is great with kids.
Okay, this is, like, the perfect white.
-I love that white.
-It's not too stark white, not too yellow.
It's, like the perfect
Yeah, that one's actually really pretty.
-Yeah. All right.
-I think we got everything we need,
let's go, come on.
Look who I found. Tinku!
-Yeah.
-So you have to be part of making
our paint decisions
since you love doing this.
-So we got paint. What?
-Hold on. Guys?
Shut the noise.
-Do you see these floors?
-Oh, my gosh.
-These floors are beautiful.
-You didn’t notice?
Aren't they, like, gorgeous?
They're gorgeous.
-The floors turned out amazing
and we have…
-And actually
-like, extra wall.
-Shall we? Shall we?
Shall we shuffle over to the wall?
-Look at this.
-Our laundry room is now built.
Our laundry room is half built.
The room is, like,
exactly what it's gonna be.
Tinker, when's this gonna be done?
-The floors are amazing.
-Right now.
-Like genie in a bottle.
-All right.
Dad's room is now office.
-So let's figure out paint.
-Here, open.
Six variations of the same color?
-Yeah.
-Open.
'Cause you have to get the perfect color.
Is that what you do, huh?
-I got
- Baby!
This one is right.
All right.
And then we get to vote
on my favorite.
Okay, so since the paint
looks different
-on different walls, depending on
-The window, the light.
The window, the light,
the time of day, natural light.
Do some swatches, let it dry.
We're gonna come back
and then see what it looks like later.
I feel like Thai teal might dry lighter
or darker than what we're seeing now.
I think it'll dry darker.
Everything dries darker.
-All right, you know what, chill.
-Except for dog poop.
-It dries lighter.
-That's nasty. Once again, that's nasty.
You're making me
very uncomfortable right now.
Let's go grab something to eat,
let it dry.
Like, let the sun come down a little bit.
We'll make our decision when it gets
-a little bit dry.
-Great, let's go.
-She's driving, so I have to.
-Yeah.
Exactly. I don't want my ride to leave me.
-All right.
-All right.
Let's see how different it looks.
It's nighttime now.
-Mm-hmm.
-What do we think?
I almost want, like,
a lighter version of this.
I know.
I love the richness of this,
but my fear is that,
-because it's a small room
-It's gonna be too dark, yeah.
is it gonna read too dark
when we do ceilings,
-walls, and baseboards?
-Yeah.
-This is such a big decision.
-This is a huge decision.
-We have to be really clear.
-So it was a great test.
But since we're not super sold,
let's head back to Home Depot,
and get this lightened 50%.
-And see if we like that better.
-Or 70%. Whatever.
-70%, whatever.
-Yeah, we can, we can lighten it up.
-Yeah. Right.
-It's so easy there.
Okay, cool. Let's go.
Tinku.
We're on a mission today.
-All right.
-To alarm
and outfit the house and really
just kind of make it super safe.
-Tam's a single mom, you know what I mean?
-Mm-hmm.
So she's moving, like, when she's
in this house alone with baby,
-she's moving all over the place,
right like, I want her
-Yeah.
to feel really comfortable,
safe in her home.
She can see who's at the front door,
she can check it on her phone.
-Oh, nice.
-If she's in the back
or if she's with the baby.
This is going to give her peace of mind,
if there's any motion
or anything like that.
-Yeah.
-So, you want to put this one in the back?
-Yeah.
-And the nice thing,
it came with the solar panel, too.
I'm assuming we don't need
to plug this into the wall.
Like, we could just put that out
and it'll power it?
-So we don't have to, like, find any
-Electricity.
Oh, that's great.
That's so eco. I love that.
-Yes, eco's what I was thinking.
-I want one.
I was thinking, like, I just don't want
to run any kind of power anywhere else.
'Cause you're gonna be like,
"I want it right there."
Tinku, you sound like a real
lazy construction person right now.
You're like, "I want this done."
And then when we start working,
you're like,
"Maybe this and this and this,"
and, like, "Let's put a second story on."
I just love how you turned the fact
that you don't have to do more work
into me being
-not solidified
in my decision-making skills.
-Ah.
I tried to tell you,
anytime you do this, I get nervous.
-Okay, stop playing.
Let's go. Come on.
-I can do it. Why
-Grab all your stuff.
Let's go, man.
-All right.
-I don't feel like we need
to take all of it at once.
-Come on, let's go.
All right, so, we have
to figure out the layout
-Yes. Right.
-the cabinets.
We're gonna fit a desk in here,
good storage
Yeah. A couch.
-Work stuff.
-Office stuff.
-Office stuff.
-Yeah.
We are trying to fit so much in this room.
We're a little nervous right now
that not all of it is gonna fit well.
If you put it here, you still have room
-for a side clear.
-It's a little, I mean
The only problem
with putting the couch over here
is that you really only have space
for one side table.
It feels unbalanced.
-There, it feels like it's
a little bit more
-Like a moment?
A moment, and it's open in the room.
If we do couch here,
it'd be nice to have built-ins around it.
I agree.
We didn't have a lot of time
-to make
-Right.
-Mistakes.
-mistakes and go back
on a choice that we made.
Tam's gonna be at that door,
-waiting to move into her house.
-That's right.
And so, we needed to make sure
that we made the right decisions
prior to getting anything into that house.
Sometimes,
it just helps, like, feel it out.
There's nothing like
having boxes that really take up space
where you can really feel
how tight a space could feel.
Now, does this feel extra tight?
I don't think it feels that tight.
-Look. Sashay.
-Get it.
Shantay.
This is just us. This is what we do.
-We can twerk down.
-Oh, oh, oh.
-Oh, oh. Oh, oh.
-Just like a little
know what I'm saying?
-Oh, oh. Oh, oh.
-You see it? You see it? You get it?
-She has it.
-Okay.
I think it works. Locked and loaded.
Let's go.
Let's go boss Tinku around.
-All right, Lizzy.
-I mean, I feel like we're gonna
-brighten up this entire space.
-Yeah. It's amazing.
I love this low-VOC paint.
It's the Behr Ultra Scuff Defense.
-How do you
-And you know why we always pick it out?
-Why do we love this
-Because it's really good
for high-traffic areas.
-It is really good for high-traffic areas.
-You know?
-It goes on really smooth.
-It goes on really smooth.
-You're getting really,
you're getting really in there.
-What
You know what?
I feel like you just had
to go to the baseboard.
I feel like you just had to do it.
This is a fresh start. Tam, I think,
with the loss of her father,
has not felt like this place
or this home was the warmth that she felt
when he was around.
-And so
-I think, I think, between the loss
of her grandmother
and her father, that combo
was like a one-two punch.
Tam was almost waiting for permission
to move on, too.
I know that's what I needed.
So I'm hoping that we'd be able
to give that to her as well.
We hope that when she walks
through the door,
she sees a place
of optimism, of hope, of love.
She feels her grandmother's spirit
and her father's spirit.
But the best parts of it,
versus the grief and the loss.
-Yeah.
-I mean, that's what we're hoping for.
-How do you get to the top?
-What do you mean, dude?
You just have to, like, have legs.
Grow.
Are you getting paint on me?
-You got me, too.
-Don't put so much on.
Okay, now you just-- stop.
Stop. You doing the most.
-Tinku!
-Hey.
-Right, and the delivery
-Our delivery is here.
Yep.
Did you pick this one up from Home Depot?
-No, they dropped it off.
-Oh, they dropped it off.
-They dropped it off?
-I just brought it in.
And they could have installed it,
but I figured we have Tinku and so
-we're using Tinku instead.
-Yeah, why not?
-This'll be quick.
-But this is a game changer
-Do you want to take a look at it?
-for Tam.
We really didn't want her
to be outside doing the laundry.
No way.
No, not with that baby.
-No.
-The space wasn't safe.
This was one of the big ones
-Yeah.
-that we knew immediately
that we had to solve.
-Just cut right here.
-It's hard, right?
She got it. Look.
-Oh, my God.
-She's from Detroit. She
Yeah, just don't cut yourself.
I usually dread buying things online,
but Home Depot made it really easy.
I'm happy that it's here
and I didn't have to go pick it up.
So thank you.
Yeah, I'm happy, too,
'cause usually I have to borrow your truck
to pick up anything.
And then I have to load it.
Anyways
There we go. There we go.
Ooh! She's a beauty.
Very pretty.
I love the navy.
-What a cool pop of, like,
just nice color
-A little surprise and delight moment
-That she'll see walking down the hallway.
-when you're opening your
-Yeah, and it's just like
-Why not make washing
and drying fun?
All right, let's do this.
Should we get it installed?
-Yeah, you
-Let's go.
Jess and I got to get back
to our second coat of paint, so come on.
If you guys got this, if you can just
do me a favor and put the dryer on top.
-If you could.
-Got it?
Good?
Any day now.
Just a quarter of an inch more.
-Staging day.
-Yes.
I cannot believe we are finally here.
Are you not so excited for Tam?
-Beyond.
-Beyond excited.
Everything turned out so beautifully.
She's gonna be over the moon.
-Right?
-Do you set your table at home?
No, I make my kids do that.
What's the point of kids,
unless they do this?
-This has been a special one.
it really has.
-Yes.
Tam came into it
in a place of such transition in her life.
There was still so much sadness
that the space held, and
we were really focused
on how can we bring light, beauty,
warmth, comfort,
and really make space for new memories
with her and Reya.
I love the countertops.
I think we did a great job
-picking these out.
-And there's still so much light.
-It feels so airy.
-It's amazing.
Remember how dark it felt before?
-Oh, my goodness.
-Isn't that crazy?
-It elevates everything.
-Yeah.
-It's amazing.
-I really agree.
It's so beautiful.
She is gonna freak out.
This has been a home in her family
for multigenerations.
She remembers having Reya's room
as, uh, a little girl.
-Aww.
-So cute.
It's so sweet.
And her father had Reya's room
when he was a little boy.
-And so, this house has seen a lot
-A lot
-of change.
-over time and a lot of change,
but yet, the house has never changed.
-Little sunshine pillows.
-That's adorable.
It was nice to be able to come in
and kind of reimagine
-the entire space.
-And reinvigorate.
Like, keep the love,
but now bring a new light in
for her and Reya.
-The little Roku room camera.
-Yeah.
-She can keep an eye on Reya
when she's sleeping.
-Yeah.
And they used to co-sleep, remember?
It'll be great. She'll be able
to get a full night's sleep.
The baby can get a full night's sleep.
I like that her name means "sunshine,"
and we added
so many little elements of, like,
-sky and rainbows and sun.
-Rainbows. Sun.
-Sunflowers.
-And this is so cute.
Oh, that's made out of her dad's shirt.
Yes. Isn't this the sweetest thing?
Whatever speaks to you, we keep,
and whatever doesn't, we can donate.
He wore that to my graduation.
-Really?
-Yeah.
-Isn't that so gorgeous?
-So sweet.
And what a little, cute ode
to, like, family.
I love that idea.
And red was her dad's favorite color,
so we have little pops of red everywhere.
-It almost feels like a brand-new home,
in-in so many ways.
-Yeah.
-It's unrecognizable.
-It really is.
-I mean, it's a true
transformation of this home.
-You know? Yeah.
And I think the first time
she walks through,
it's gonna be a little bit of a shock.
It's time. Time.
Okay, come on. Let's grab it.
I think Tam is gonna love this house.
I think she's gonna feel so at home here.
Oh, my goodness.
Look at this hair.
Come here.
-Oh, my God.
-Hi.
-This is nuts. Oh, my gosh, Tam.
-I'm so excited.
You like, "New house, new me, new me."
-New year.
-Yes.
-Let's go.
-I'm ready.
-Let's go.
-How you doing?
-I'm-I'm great. I'm great.
-I'm excited.
-Yes? You are?
-We are, too.
-I'm not gonna lie, we're very excited.
-We are very excited.
-Okay.
-We really feel like
we put our foot into this one.
-Okay?
-Okay.
-This has been a journey.
-Yeah.
It's a whole new start,
it's a whole new moment.
And I really hope that you love it.
Yeah.
We wanted to honor and celebrate you
every decision we made.
The whole time,
we just kept on thinking, "happy."
"We want her to be happy."
-Warm, cozy and happy.
-Yes. Yes.
-I'm like, "Yes, yes."
-Yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes.
-What do you tell us?
What are you feeling?
-I'm excited.
-Are you nervous?
-Yes.
I'm like
-Come on.
-Okay.
I'm so excited.
Oh, my God.
Tam, you got to say something.
Oh, my God.
-You got to say something.
-It's beautiful.
-It's beautiful. Oh, my goodness.
-Tam, you got to say something.
I can't believe this is the same house.
I'm really thankful for you guys.
It's beautiful. Like,
I could not imagine nothing like this.
It's beautiful.
I'm really at a loss for words.
-Thank you so much.
-Of course.
You know, it's truly our honor
to help you with this.
And we really wanted you to come in and
have this feeling like you are at home.
-This is your home.
-I can't believe it.
I've been here my whole life.
I nev-- I never could imagine this.
-You deserve it.
-Thank you.
And you deserve the light
and happiness and the joy
that is inside you to come out.
And your daughter,
she's literally a ray of sunshine.
This is beautiful.
-Literally like
-I'm so excited.
You guys are talking, and I'm just like
I'm just trying to take it all in, 'cause
it's just so beautiful. Oh, my goodness.
-Did we nail it?
-It's You did more than nail it, okay?
You guys outdid yourselves,
-literally, like
-That's good.
And we know how important it is for you
to have things that we learned as moms
that is so helpful in the living room.
Oh, my goodness.
It's a beautiful furniture piece,
-but then it's also
-This is so cute.
It's an area that she can put her toys in.
Yeah. I love it. Yeah.
-And it's not all over the place.
-That's right.
-And we also have
a little hidden place down here.
-Okay.
-Oh, my goodness.
-Because who needs to go
to a room
-to change the diapers?
-Right.
-Oh, my goodness.
-This is, like, the most handy thing.
-Thank you so much.
-I had this with all three of my kids.
-Yes.
-And it's just, like, practical.
-I love it.
-Easy.
So, we just want to give you
little pockets of places
where you can tuck things away
so things don't feel cluttered,
so you still feel like it's a super clean,
open environment.
What I had done in the past
was just to try to not feel
down about my dad passing,
'cause I was just moving so quick,
trying to switch things out
to not feel like that.
But now I can walk in here,
and it's my grandmother's.
You know, it was her house,
but now it's our home, my daughter and I.
Even like with the seating,
I had that glass stuff,
and you guys made it
a cozy seating by the window.
You guys took
a lot of thought into everything.
Everything is just so beautiful.
I don't feel how I felt.
Good. This makes us so happy, though.
I feel like it's a dream.
Do you see the pop of wallpaper?
Yes. It's popping. I love it.
-Isn't it cute?
-Yeah.
We think it adds, like,
a little bit of whimsy.
And we wanted to bring in this miracle,
like, yellow color.
That's crazy 'cause that's, like,
my grandmother's favorite color,
-and she collected birds.
-Wow.
So it really reminds me
of my grandmother a lot.
Remember when we first came in,
you said, "I was trying to add yellow
because it made me happy,"
and so we tried to add
those different shades of yellow.
I never could imagine
that this is my house.
-Well, it's yours.
-I know, it is.
-It is yours. It is yours.
- It's beautiful.
-Do you want to see the kitchen?
-Yes.
-Go ahead.
-Turn around.
Oh, my gosh!
-Oh, my God.
-Isn't it beautiful?
Oh, my goodness.
I have to just pause for a second,
'cause you know
when anyone say,
"Oh, my goodness, oh, my goodness,"
-you know you got it right
with the, "Oh, my goodness."
-Right.
Yes.
I cannot.
And look at your refrigerator
and the stove, it all matches.
-Oh, I'm so fancy now.
-You fancy.
-Oh, you fancy, you fancy.
-Oh, you fancy.
-I am beyond fancy, beautiful gold.
-Okay.
-But look how much storage
we were able to give you, too.
-That was super important for us.
-I cannot.
We know, especially with Reya,
all of her things,
and we were able to provide
a lot more storage in this kitchen
for you.
-Even here.
-And still give you
sight into the living room,
or if she's here eating
-and open this whole thing up.
-Oh, y'all did.
And we created the same
kind of outline of the arch
-and this one to match that one.
-Oh, my goodness.
-So now it flows.
-You guys
Oh, it's so beautiful.
I was trying to imagine it,
but this is, like, beyond anything
that I could have ever imagined.
It's beautiful.
You have everything that you need.
This is truly a chef's kitchen.
-I'm gonna be in here
-Yes. Yes.
You better throw down in here, girl.
I cannot. I
I'm at a loss for words.
It's so beautiful.
Do you want to see more?
-Yes.
-But wait, there's more.
-But wait, there's more.
-All right.
I'm just, I'm still processing this.
I'm like
-Let's go.
-Okay. Oh.
It's beautiful.
-Oh, she's gonna love this.
-Welcome to
Reya's room of sunshine.
-And she has her own crib.
-Yes.
She is going to love this space.
It's so beautiful.
And everything is in here
for her from the drawers.
-Plenty of storage.
-Yes.
We wanted this sunshine vibe.
Literally, like out of a magazine.
Like
You guys did so amazing with this.
-Does this look familiar?
-Oh, my God.
You guys, that's my dad's shirt
from my graduation.
This is so pretty.
So, we wanted to make it
into something special for Reya.
And now Reya will always have it
in her room
as a piece from her grandpa.
And now it's a family heirloom.
Look, this is mine.
I love it.
-All right, you ready
for your last surprise?
-You ready?
Yes.
Okay.
Keep going, keep going.
-Keep going. Stop.
-And you're gonna stop right here.
And
We brought in your laundry.
-Wait.
-No more going in the garage.
I'm confused.
This is your new laundry spot.
How?
You gu-- I cannot handle this.
-This is your new laundry, for real.
-Okay.
And you know
what that door used to lead to.
-My dad's room.
-Are you ready to see it?
-Yes.
-Okay.
-Okay. Let's go.
-Okay.
It's beautiful.
You guys did everything.
The pictures my grandma took.
I got to sit down.
-Sweetheart.
-I'm overwhelmed.
I'm happy. I'm just really overwhelmed.
They're happy tears.
We also wanted to make this room
a space where you could start up again.
You might want to work from home.
You need an office space.
This is your moment to now
take all the love,
right, that this room had
and that your dad had for you.
-And now it's in a space for you.
-And it's reimagined.
-It's beautiful.
-And we have the records.
I see.
So we still have the originals.
Oh.
But there's an artist
called The Heirloomist,
and what she does is
she takes really cool pieces,
-heirlooms that people have
and turns it into art.
-And makes art pieces. Yeah.
I cannot believe this.
This is my house. Okay?
This is your house.
-My house. My house.
-You know what?
Wow. But look at that.
Can we take a moment for that?
Because, listen, you just said it.
You just said it so naturally,
authentically, out of--
This came out of your mouth.
This is your house.
-You've said you live here.
-Right.
But you haven't said
that this is your house.
It didn't really feel like, you know,
'cause I've been here
my whole life, pretty much.
So it's just like, I'm still here.
Of course. Of course.
-But I do feel a big
-Like, ownership.
-a-a change.
-Yeah.
I think it was the first time
that we heard her say
that this is her house.
Like, her taking ownership
over this house.
Yeah, and her actually feeling like,
"This is mine."
-Like, wow.
-Yeah. It's not her grandmother's house.
It's not her dad's house.
-It's her house.
-Yeah.
And the whole house,
from the kitchen to Reya's room
to now her office, it is all rooms
-that she can enjoy
-Yeah.
and use and just,
you know, be a part of.
-Whereas before, it wasn't like that.
-Very empowering.
Yeah.
I feel like I'm in a dream right now.
It's gonna take a while to process
and for reality to kick in,
like, this is real life.
We're so happy that you, like,
you're feeling so much joy in a space,
when we first walked into,
that it wasn't always that, you know?
And so now let's see you smile so hard.
-I'm, like Yeah.
-So hard.
-Like, so hard.
-Right.
-Oh, my goodness.
-That makes us feel so much joy,
because we're just so happy for you.
Honestly, I feel like
my grandmother and my dad
would be in disbelief,
as I am right now,
because it's just
such a new chapter to be able to see
the house transformed
and more modernized,
and it's unbelievable.
So, this is a little care package.
We always like to leave a parting gift.
There's some spa things for you,
some stuff for Reya,
so here's your little basket.
-It's kind of heavy.
-It's kind of heavy.
And then we have one more thing to say.
We know that with a new office
and with you working
and everything like that,
-we really want to
-Continue to support you.
And so we want to gift you
one month of childcare costs as well,
-just to give you
that extra little oomph
-Yeah.
to make sure that you're all good.
You guys just keep coming with the heat.
Thank you so much.
-This is a really great start,
and it's a great transition.
-Yeah.
-And what a beautiful office
to work from home from.
-I mean
And it's a great moment. Look at this.
It doesn't feel real.
-Well, it is.
-Right.
-Let it sink in.
-Trust me, for the last couple months,
-we've been doing all this, so it's real.
-Right.
-It's really real.
-It's real-real.
Okay. Okay.
-Felt like kind of a release from the old.
-Yeah.
Like she could really let go
of what the house meant to her,
how it was before, and she can
really step into this new self.
Look, mama.
I'm most definitely excited
for Reya to grow up in this home,
for us to create new memories.
You see your room?
It's so pretty.
I just feel like it's a brand-new chapter.
This is a fresh new start for us.
This is your papa's shirt.
