I think we have a great relationship.
It's just not as intense
as Miriam's relationship.
Right.
[pop music playing]
[Julia] We win this battle part
of the lawsuit,
it's done and dusted
in six to eight weeks.
If we don't,
it may take me two years to win.
-[laptop chimes]
-Mm-hmm.
I'm not gonna sit on my ass
and twiddle my thumbs until I win.
In the meanwhile,
let's fucking build something of value.
In EWG, all we were focusing on
was the avatars themselves.
We did nothing about the metaverse.
Let's focus on the tech.
-[Miriam] Mm-hmm.
-Let's create a company together.
Let's build the first ever
interoperable metaverse
that is like a giant global mall.
It's a transactional environment.
So people come into this space,
and they can shop, they can
-They can shop, create.
-[Robert] View, they can look.
They can look. I'm gonna give you
both shares of the company,
and Robert Z will be
the founding four members.
[Miriam] Yay!
Of course, we have been counting on you
to figure out the tech,
to find out what kind of people we need.
-New business, what's the LLC called?
-We came up with a great name.
-Haart Sphere.
-[Robert] Haart Sphere?
-[Julia] Haart Sphere.
-Okay.
-Isn't that great?
-Very cool. Yeah.
It's not just me.
It's Miriam Haart and Julia Haart.
-Robert, you're an honorary Haart.
-Obviously.
-So we need haartsphere.com, .org, .net.
-Have you done that?
-[Miriam] I haven't bought anything.
-[Julia and Robert] Buy it immediately.
Okay.
[Julia] To me, I've been fighting
for freedom for so long,
I'm just gonna keep fighting.
I'm going to get what is owed to me back.
But I wanna plan for the future,
and that's where Haart Sphere comes in.
To get to do this
with people I trust and love
and to build something
on my own that no man can steal,
that's really exciting for me.
I just bought haartsphere.com.
-Buy all the dots.
-Okay.
[upbeat music playing]
-Is this the place?
-I believe so.
-[Shlomo] Haven.
-[Robert] Haven Spa.
[Shlomo] Uh, I'm here for a waxing.
-[woman] Your first name?
-Shlomo.
Brazilian, right?
-Mm-hmm.
-Good.
Ra'ed filled me in
on Miriam's birthday party,
and Miriam and Natalie's friend,
and how Ra'ed was, like, the wingman
that brought them together
and made sure they smooched.
-And then the kiss comes in.
-[Nathalie] Whoa!
Oh, okay.
Cutie Shlomo has, like, an upcoming date.
And I think we have some work to do
just to make sure
we're properly groomed for the occasion.
Have you had wax before?
Not like this.
-This is your patient.
-Oh my God. Are you my first victim?
-So you're still a virgin, are you?
-Yes. [chuckles]
In more ways than one, dear.
In more ways than one.
Perfect.
[waxer] It's a little bit unpleasant,
but you will survive.
[Shlomo] Great.
[waxer] There you go.
Oh, this is gonna hurt.
This is gonna hurt a lot, okay?
What do I think about?
Think about having sex with a girl.
There we go.
From Ra'ed and you,
this girl liked you at the party.
You haven't closed the deal.
How d'you close the deal?
[Shlomo] There's definitely
a confidence thing,
performance-related, you know?
[Robert] Whoa, what do you mean by that?
Performance-related.
Like, you were scared you
Like, most people at 26
have had multiple partners.
So, they're kinda, like,
on a different pedestal.
-[Robert] Women?
-[Shlomo] Women, yeah.
I'm relatively confident
she's not the Princess of Denmark.
I'm relatively confident
she's a 26-year-old girl who wouldn't mind
getting in your pants.
You'd like to get in her pants.
-But you have to make the move.
-I know.
If I could encapsulate Shlomo's,
like, issue with women,
it's that he has almost
too much respect for them.
A girl wants to be treated well.
A pedestal is great, but make it too high,
and you'll never reach.
Okay, if there is a next definable step
The next definable step
is to go on another date with Marianna.
[Robert] And that date ends how?
I guess see how the date goes but home.
Hopefully going well.
And then make the magic happen.
[Shlomo laughs]
I'm seeing some issues in this plan.
First off, we need to address your game.
You really should let
the spirit of Ra'ed take you over.
-[Shlomo] Yes.
-Are you the type that, like,
"I'd like to kiss you. May I kiss you?"
-Or something like that? Or
-I have asked permission.
[Robert] And?
-Did they acquiesce to the request?
-I've never been shut down for a kiss.
-Okay.
-But
So kissing is the start. Kissing is
the gateway drug to heavy petting. Okay?
-Heavy petting, really?
-Heavy petting.
Ra'ed has a lot of back hair. We have
to take care of that every now and then.
Should I do a strip or two?
-You have to rip it quick.
-Yes, I'm gonna go quick. Like lightning.
-[Shlomo laughs]
-Do it, baby.
[Robert] Okay.
[waxer] That was slow.
-Look at all that I got.
-[Shlomo] Slow.
-I got some.
-[waxer] You felt it, right?
-I felt that. That was like a pull.
-[Robert] Okay, maybe I need to redo it.
-[waxer] Okay.
-Good. Great. Thanks.
-You ready for me?
-[Shlomo] No.
-[waxer] Go.
-[Robert] All right.
-Oh
-Did you get it?
-You fired.
-Oh. [laughs]
-Shit. Twice in one week?
-[Robert] Twice in one week.
-That hurts.
-[Shlomo] Sorry.
[all laugh]
[pop music playing]
[Robert] Knock, knock.
-Hey!
-Hello!
-[Robert, in singsong] Happy birthday.
-Thank you.
[Ra'ed and Robert, in singsong]
Happy birthday!
-Hello!
-Hello.
-[Robert] Oh my God, 31 years old.
-Shut the fuck up.
[laughing]
-Happy birthday.
-[Batsheva] Thank you.
Tonight is my 29th birthday dinner.
This is a really big, nice,
intimate celebration with my family.
I was really nervous about celebrating
my birthday on my own,
so I'm thankful that I have my friends
and family around me today.
Oh, yes, David, please alcohol
-Urgently get this woman a glass of wine.
-[Julia] Urgently.
Guys, I'm so excited. I have not had
Aliza back here in such a long time.
-[Miriam] Aliza's coming?
-Aliza's coming.
-Amazing.
-[Robert] Who's Aliza?
Yosef's wife.
-Is your dad coming tonight?
-Yeah. Where have you been?
Oh, okay!
It's a family dinner.
[Julia] It's a family birthday
kosher dinner.
-[Robert] Oh my gosh.
-[Julia] Yeah!
-You having fun?
-Obviously. I'm a little tipsy, so.
I'm about to ruin this dinner. [laughs]
I love that. Please be tipsy.
-Sit next to me so we can fight a little.
-I can handle it.
[laughing]
Guys, Aron is coming, no talking now
about, like, stuff, his stuff.
-What do you mean?
-He's become
-[Batsheva] Very ultra.
-Very ultra.
It felt like he was not happy
to be with us in Connecticut.
-He wasn't happy.
-It was uncomfortable.
He came in his black hat, and he stayed
in his Shabbos jacket the whole time.
Tonight, it's just about family.
-[Yosef] Hey!
-[Miriam] They're here.
[all] Yay!
[Julia] Look at that.
-Aliza!
-How are you?
[Julia] Aww!
Batsheva wanted to sit
next to you on her birthday.
[Robert] Should we all say
nice things about Batsheva?
-My God, I love that.
-Abba, I'm sure you have something to say.
Batsheva has taught me a lot.
That shows how special she is.
I remember, we were traveling to Atlanta,
and she taught me how to be out there.
We were on an airplane,
and she turned around and screamed out,
"I'm Jewish! Is anyone here Jewish?"
-[Julia] I remember that.
-[laughing]
[Yosef] It was a really classic moment.
It was with confidence, and it was pure.
I'm very thankful
to have wonderful parents
who raised me with a lot of confidence.
So cheers to both of you.
[all] Cheers.
[Julia] That was beautiful.
Aron, it's your turn, baby.
When Ima was starting her fashion empire,
Batsheva took the role as the mother.
So I remember Batsheva
chasing me to take a shower.
[laughs]
-[Aron] Sometimes.
-I paid her to be my nanny for you.
So you could have a home-cooked meal,
and someone would be home
to do homework with you when you came home
from school because I was busy building
-towards our future.
-[Aron] Mm-hmm.
And Batsheva, I know
she did an amazing job with that.
-Thanks for that.
-Of course.
I love you.
You'll always be my little bro.
When I left my community, I did it alone.
I didn't want to burden my children.
They were too young, and I didn't want
them to know how close I had come
to committing suicide.
I thought that that was a burden
they should not have to bear.
It wasn't about being miserable
being your mom.
It was about being miserable
not being myself.
And at a certain point,
it was literally life or death.
If I hadn't gone the day that I did,
I would have killed myself.
It worries me tremendously
that Batsheva still resents it.
I'm raising my glass.
[voice breaking]
I'm so lucky to be your mother.
I love you so much.
[Batsheva] Aw.
-I don't know why I'm so emotional.
-Cry.
I'm really not a crier.
I don't know what's wrong with me.
I just want every dream
of yours to come true.
And I just want you to be happy, fulfilled
and that your life is far beyond
anything you can dream of.
-Ima!
-[Miriam chuckles]
-Oh wow. I get a hug.
-Of course you get a hug.
I love you.
I love you so.
I don't want you to cry though.
I love you so much.
[Julia] Batsheva, we are eating
in the living room for your birthday cake.
Thank you everybody for coming
and celebrating with me tonight
and for all the really nice
toasts and cheers.
-I don't remember whose idea it was
-[Robert] Mine.
-Rob.
-[Robert] Yes.
See? The person who says
they're the coldest is the kindest.
-Oh, God.
-[all] Aww.
[Batsheva] I'm thankful
for my friends and family.
[Julia] Come follow me for a second.
Like, based on our conversation
in the library
and don't feel like you have to do this,
but it's something that I'd love to do.
I know you have a therapist
that you really trust.
Do you think we could go together to your
therapist and talk about our relationship?
Sure.
[Julia] Yay.
-I love you so much.
-I love you. You're really intoxicated.
-[Julia] I know.
-So I would go to bed now.
-I'm gonna bring you to bed.
-Thanks. I love you. [laughs]
-You're so special.

Are you a little nervous, Shlomo?
No sweat?
-[Miriam] He's been working out.
-[Nathalie] You're good.
[Shlomo] Marianna is here.
[Miriam] Oh, here she is!
Look at that cutie.
[Shlomo] Hi, how are you?
I think a double date's a great idea
because it'd be a great way for Shlomo
to ease into the things that are starting
to build up with Marianna.
I hope he still makes it a little flirty.

-[Shlomo] Hey.
[Nathalie] What?
Shlomo's, like,
"Don't talk to my girl like that."
[Nathalie and Marianna] Oh!
-Looking sexy, babe!
-[Miriam grunts]

-They are very cute.
-It's always number two.

[indistinct chatter]

I don't know if I'm seeing
this going anywhere.
I don't know either.
I feel like she is getting to his level

about his flirty game.
-But we have talked with him.
-That's true. It's not come through.

I've never actually met her in person.
I always do Zoom sessions.
-That's funny.
-Mm-hmm.
-Hi!
-[Batsheva] Hello.
-Come on in.
-Nice to see you in person.
[Nicole] Nice to see you too, I know.
[Julia] I'm really glad that Batsheva
said yes to go with me to therapy.
I'm not sure she's forgiven me,
and I need to find that out.
I need her to figure it out.
Maybe she's still angry with me,
and she doesn't even realize it.
Who wants to kinda give a brief overview?
When I left the community, she felt a lot
of abandonment which I totally understand.
She didn't have me
like she had me her whole life.
We would speak 800 times a day.
We had this, like,
really special connection.
I just miss the closeness.
I always feel that our interactions
are a little
-[Nicole] Surface?
-Surface. Yeah.
Like, we talk all the time.
We spend time all the time but, like
-It doesn't feel as meaningful? Connected?
-It doesn't feel as deep and connected.
I miss that.
I think that there's
still some residual trauma
left over
from when I left.
No, I dealt with all that,
like, years ago.
It's not I don't feel any, like,
abandonment from you anymore.
I really don't. Like, I definitely felt it
back then, but I went to therapy.
I'm not harboring any, like, resentment.
That's really not what I feel.
If it's not and I'm wrong,
then I remove everything I'm saying.
I'm just saying if there is,
I want to know how to fix it.
-[Nicole] Sure.
-That's all. I'm always gonna be thinking
about your best interest, about your
financial security, about making sure
And as your daughter, you have to
understand it's not an issue for me.
I'm happy to be open with you, but I feel
like if I'm putting something out there,
you share it with people
because you think it's not a big deal.
-What are you talking about?
-The squirting thing.
That was not for you
to share with the table.
-That made me uncomfortable.
-I'm so sorry.
When I'm talking to my mom, you should
know you can talk about your sex life.
-You shouldn't talk about my sex life.
-But you need to tell me.
I feel like
we've already had this discussion.
I don't want my personal sex life shared.
And yes, I'm in a different place
than when she was writing the book
and put in my sexual experiences with Ben.
[Ben] "After they got married,
Ben came to me with another issue."
He said, "Can you help us?
We can't figure out how to do it."
-"We tried last night, nothing happened."
-Oh my God.
-[Ben] When we got married
-Me and Ben, personally
and our own sexual experience
I don't think is anybody else's business.
But you understand why I have to
why I wrote it?
I don't wanna hear the explicit details
of my sexual experiences.
And I'm very open now,
but open doesn't mean public.
Some things are meant to be kept private,
and a line needs to be drawn.
Honestly, I think it's so beautiful
to be open about sexuality.
But that's you.
I sometimes forget that not everyone
is so open about it, and I apologize.
But I asked you, would you be okay to talk
about how impressed with the fact that
you're sleeping with one guy here.
I didn't realize that
that and the squirting thing
were in different
levels with you.
-[Batsheva] My privacy.
-You say, "I slept with people."
In my head, it's all the same thing,
so I didn't realize that that
and the squirting thing were different.
But you don't wanna say, "I squirted."
Please continue saying it.
I love hearing it. It's lovely. Thank you.
So these examples are really great,
but I wanna really focus more
on the difference in how you are
each valuing the relationship.
It sounds like, Mom, there's a closeness
that you're missing, that is lacking.
-[Julia] Exactly.
-Right, a deeper connection.
If it's something I've done
or a wall that she's built.
When she came and stayed in the house,
every time I would come in and say,
"How are you feeling? Are you okay?"
She just didn't want to engage.
I wanted to hold her, do you know
what I mean? I wanted to comfort her.
-But that's not what I needed.
-What do you need?
I just was What she gave me,
which was space and a loving place
and support and that to me was amazing,
and I was so thankful for that.
I feel like I do give you closeness.
It's just I don't have, like, a daily
-or constant, a weekly, emotional thing.
-Yeah, that's probably what it is.
That's not my personality.
-That could very well be.
-Ask my friends. I'm not like that.
You say yourself,
you're very introspective.
You work through a lot
of things yourself. I'm similar to you.
-So I don't need to talk.
-That's a good point.
You say this all the time.
I don't need to, like,
talk them through with people
and when I do, I have come to you,
and they're not often,
and they're not all the time.
But, like, if I needed someone
in those hardest times or I was, like,
"What do I do?" Like, you're
the person that I would call. So
She does come to me a lot
and asks for advice.
I kind of wanted her to come tell me
how she's feeling emotionally inside.
When I understood that she's not telling
those things to anyone, it's not me.
It's who she is.
And she's my daughter, so that makes
perfect sense that's who she is.
This huge, massive weight
lifted off my heart,
that I have been carrying with me since
the year I left the community, this guilt.
It's really helped me a lot.
I feel so much better.
Thank you for explaining it to me.
