Fastest Car (2018) s02e07 Episode Script
Race of Champions
I wanna welcome all of you to the championship round.
[T-Mark.]
Today, five built cars and one supercar will compete in a six-wide, quarter-mile race.
The reason you're here is because you're the winner of your qualifying races.
The winner of this race will leave today as a champion, crowned Fastest Car.
[Qurann.]
Hell yeah! Winnin' a race was very exciting.
I beat the supercar.
I mean, what more could I say? - [man on radio.]
Tiana.
- Woo! [Tiana.]
Accelerating, baby! This is what we live for.
I'll do it till the day I die.
[Neal.]
Having my dad's support, it's freedom.
I wanna put that smile on his face one more time.
Who's the winner? Honda power, bitches! I wanna prove to all those people that say, "You're never gonna get there," that, if you work hard and you love what you do, you will make anything happen.
[Justin.]
After I won the race, I was, like, super excited.
I made it to the championship round with a stock car.
That's disappointing for the other guys I raced against, by the way.
I like y'all, but, come on now.
[Lyle.]
Since my accident, the will to get back in a race car, I think, comes from the competitive drive in my blood.
You can't let somethin' like that defeat you.
[T-Mark.]
So at the end of the day today, one of you will leave here with the title of Fastest Car.
[Daniel.]
We'll be driving for a long, long, long time.
I already drove about 2,700 miles.
That's a lot.
[laughs.]
[Yosmari.]
It's nice, though.
We saw snow for the first time.
- Natalie loved the snow.
- [Daniel.]
A lot of snow.
Yeah, there was a lot of snow on the way.
[laughter.]
This race has been the biggest thing in my life, 100%.
But you know what's really scary? This is the sixth quickest car.
They're really fast, and when you're fast, anything can happen.
[GPS voice.]
Turn left, then arrive at your destination.
[gasps.]
- [Daniel.]
Yes! - Finally.
[Daniel.]
It's the first time we travel so far away from house, from our home.
Ready.
It's my first time here in California.
I came to the United States in 2006.
I was about 19 years old.
In Cuba, you would never have a car, so it's so special we had the ability to build our own car.
If I won this big race, it would change my life forever.
It gonna bring me a lot of reputation.
I wanna get it out, make sure everything's okay.
I'm gonna check the plugs, check the injectors.
Which is fine.
When people see a Honda on the races, they laugh.
I make fun of them because they never put down the power to the ground.
This one This one do the job.
Right now, my job is to make sure that every single injectors get the same amount of fuel.
I'm gonna check all of them.
This is what delivers the fuel to the motor.
I check my injectors every single time before the race.
If I don't check it, I don't race.
That's the way it is.
Just checking if you have any leaks right now.
See, we got a leak.
Oh, we gotta fix that.
Yeah, we have a leak.
So I might have to put new O-rings on this.
This is the piece that hold the injector, so then we, like So this is a brand new top O-rings right now.
See? All right, we got this.
- [in Spanish.]
What happened? - [yells.]
[in English.]
Anything could happen with the fuels leaking.
Could catch fire.
Look, turbo's over here, if turbo manifold get hot, if the fuel touch the turbo manifold, you fry, that's it.
If that happens in the race, you can catch fire.
[cries.]
What happened? All right.
And all new.
I'll tighten it up.
[Daniel.]
It's super important for us, for myself I wanna make everybody proud.
Hey.
Hah! I better keep racing cars, I'm no good on this.
[chuckles.]
[laughter.]
[Daniel, in Spanish.]
I want to win this race for my family, so they can be proud and my daughter can have a father that did something important, you know? I imagine she is going to be [in English.]
super proud of your dad.
[speaks Spanish.]
[in English.]
I I can miss it.
- [Yosmari.]
No.
- Hey! [laughing.]
- Never mind.
- I did so many times.
No, it's okay.
I remember on the way home, after we won that race and we wasn't ten minutes down the road goin' home and there's Tiana, "Well, we need to put more to it, we're gonna need more with these next cars.
" You guys wanna see me kick some butt, right? - Yeah.
- You're gonna do it.
I asked her when she got off the track, "How'd it feel?" - Yeah? - "It needs more power.
" I'm like, "You fucking kidding me?" Winning the race didn't really set in until we were on the freeway, on the way home.
And then we were thinking, "Shit, we won!" Like, "We gotta do it again!" [Tiana.]
You know, I raced against a very expensive supercar and I won.
Woo! Hey, you you did us proud the first time.
Seeing that win and sitting in that circle, - it was crazy for us - Yeah? Like, all the hard work we put into this thing was worth it, I'd do it ten times over.
After the race, I literally looked at him and I was like, "We are going to be talking about this race every day until the race happens.
" And we have, every day.
Did you know I won? - No.
No.
We thought they did.
They was rootin' and hollerin' like they won.
[Brandon.]
Tiana's my wife, business partner, racing partner, best friend, best enemy on the track when we're racing each other, stuff like that, but, yeah.
I I just never forget the day, I mean, back in high school, I watched her dad pull up in a '69 Camaro and dropping her off and I swear that "I'm gonna marry that girl" went through my head.
[Tiana.]
Racing is what built Brandon and I.
Like, we grew up on it together, it's what keeps us motivated.
That's what keeps the fire going, what's awesome.
It's a different type of connection, a different type of chemistry, and it's competitive, but yet, you know, romantic in a way for us.
And I've seen how much time my husband's put into this car, so fast, with limited time that we have 'cause of work.
It's impressive.
You know, I wanna win because he's put so much to it.
[Brandon.]
Everything in this engine is maxed out.
Nothing more I can do.
- I got confidence in you, Brandon.
You - No.
- You know what you're doin'.
- She's just gotta drive it.
You gotta figure it out, she's gotta drive it.
- That's it, yeah.
- Yeah.
[Tiana.]
The first plan was to add more power, so we've put in a ported supercharger and snout.
I would imagine 100, 150 horsepower gain, - So - Yeah.
It's gonna be instant, it's gonna be now, it's gonna be violent.
- [Ryan.]
We gotta keep a level of safe too.
- Yeah.
[Brandon.]
I don't wanna be the asshole that goes five lanes across.
We have to make sure we stay in our lane and go straight.
That's a little worrisome, but to take another win would be awesome.
I wanna see what I'm racing against.
I [sighs.]
I don't know, maybe they'll intimidate me too.
[Tiana.]
All I'm thinking about is how to win this race.
[Mark.]
After gettin' that first win, under our belt, we're kind of pumped up now for the big race.
Look forward to you winnin' this one.
[Lyle.]
The Tesla, I caught him and passed him a lot quicker than I thought.
Damn Mustang's just that fast, man, it ran him down in a hurry.
Looking at the data and knowing what we ran from the first race, I don't think there's anything as fast as we are.
Unless we have some kinda somethin' stupid happen, I mean, whatever, I just don't think we're gonna have a problem.
I hope not.
For me, at least, the job's not done, you know, I'm not I'm not gonna be satisfied until we win this one.
[Lyle.]
For the championship race, most of our improvement will be made in the tune-up, we're just gonna give it more power.
With the modern technology and the way that things are going, these things are just big supercomputers.
[Pete.]
Wheel speed gets a little excessive here, the trax control pulls it back down, then it's back up and it's regulating it through the early part of the pass.
It was around this area right here, that ol' Tesla boy knew he was fucked.
- [laughs.]
- [Lyle.]
'Bout right there.
[Pete.]
So, early on in the run, we're gonna add power, and we do that with, uh up arrows.
- [Lyle.]
Nothin' but up arrows.
- Nothin' but up.
Ready to get loaded into the race car.
It's he world's most sophisticated pile of junk.
[laughter.]
[Lyle.]
If this thing is still runnin' straight and I can keep it under control, I'm gonna drive it.
Get in there, girl.
Good girl.
[Mark.]
That first race was definitely nerve-rackin' for me, just not knowin'.
You had four cars out there that were subject to lose control at any moment.
[Lyle.]
I've been injured in one of these before, and the worst feeling ever is being in a enclosed in a capsule like that, on fire, and thinking that I'm gonna die like this.
[Mark.]
It was a roller coaster.
All you could do was just keeping telling him it was gonna be okay.
[Lyle.]
Since my accident, I was just in a funk.
The talk came up about a therapy dog, and felt like it was somethin' that I wanted.
No ifs, ands, or buts about it, she was by far the best thing for me.
She's been racin' with me ever since I started back racin' after my accident.
She hasn't missed a race yet, so it's pretty cool to be able to keep her along with me.
[Lyle.]
Just get my trunk key.
There's a lot at stake here and, you know, nobody wants to lose, and sometimes the want to win overpowers the skill to drive, and that's where people get in trouble.
Grandma's butter knife.
[Lyle.]
I know my limits, I know how far I can drive this thing, and I'm not gonna drive any farther than I think I can.
It's not worth wrecking your stuff, but I'm not gonna lay down easy.
After the first race, we've made a change or two, pulled some power out down low.
Do the tire spin.
Added it out the back into the middle and we're gonna send this in.
Here she goes.
- Race day.
- Yeah, let's do it.
There's a lot of time and effort that went into this deal.
[Lyle.]
Between, you know, the fuel injection system we have and the traction control, we've got just about everything you could have.
And I've got the car, I've got the team, I like to think I've got the talent.
There's just no reason that we shouldn't win.
If we lose, we'll beat ourself.
[chuckles.]
Ah, we good.
[Qurann.]
The car performed pretty good during the last race, so, we're not gonna touch too much of anything.
Just go over it, change the spark plugs, and run it up on the dyno.
- Qurann gave us zero feedback, like - Yeah, like.
"Qurann, how was the race?" "Uh I dunno.
" - "Hey Qurann, was" - "It was cool.
" "Was it even close?" "Don't know, I couldn't turn my head.
" - Yeah, couldn't see.
- We didn't get no info man, at all.
[Qurann.]
Alameda Boyz! You ain't seen how that motherfucker was pulling? - [laughter.]
- I couldn't see anything.
All I saw was a Vega's passenger door.
It was pullin' good.
Pullin' like a jet.
- [chuckles.]
- We need some data, man.
- Oh.
- You never listen, man.
- I'm serious.
- [Fabo sighs.]
But once we pull up to the show, it's well, it's go time.
Well, no, well, they say you could get, uh some test hits.
- Oh, yeah? - Yeah, but - That That day? - Yeah, the same day.
At least we can lay rubber down before the actual race.
- Then go off of that? - You'll be paying attention this time? - Will you talk to us this time? - Tell us what you're doin' and seein'? - With the car? - Y'all gon' see it.
[Fabo.]
Yeah, we'll see it! I run with the Alameda Boyz, that's my crew.
Been with them for, like, five years, I wanna say.
We all have fun and talk shit.
I know you ain't got no neck, man, but you gotta turn that motherfucker, bro.
Don't wanna move [laughs.]
You need to turn, look over it.
It's a family.
Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Yeah! [Kike.]
You have somebody to, you know, kind of lean on.
It hasn't been just racing, I mean, you can talk about personal stuff.
It's friendship, you know, it's a bond.
I mean, the good thing about Qurann, he's not scared of the car, so he knows when to get out and when not to, you know? He doesn't really have a panic mode, so that's gonna help us in our favor.
[Kike.]
Over there.
[Fabo.]
The thing is, now we're racin' all champions, racing guys that know what the fuck they're doing.
We got pretty close to what we made last time, so we know the motor is still healthy, and the car should be ready for the final race.
[Neal.]
Since I won the last race, my dad's acceptance of my passion and his involvement has definitely increased.
[Ash.]
How much horsepower does this car have? [Neal.]
Probably around 1,100, 1,200.
I've been criticizing him for 20 years, "It's a waste of time.
You don't know what you're doing.
Make something out of you.
" [Ash.]
I mean, I never thought he'd win.
[Neal.]
In college, my father didn't want me workin' on cars and he threatened to kick me out, burn my car, you know, crush it.
But after winning the first race, all of the issues he had with the car kind of faded away.
You gonna stay within the limits of the car? Absolutely, we'll be careful.
[Ash.]
Safety's always in my mind.
I only have one son.
But I don't hold him back, because I now have more respect for my son and his passion.
[Ash.]
From a kid, then a child, then in adolescence, now I can respect him as a man, a man that knows what he wants, fought for it.
Glad to see him actually win.
Aww.
Thank you, Pops.
[laughs.]
- All these years.
- Aww! [man.]
When I saw your dad cry, dude, I actually started to cry.
[Neal.]
Yeah, you did.
That was, like, the most genuine shock moment for me.
I was like, I did not expect my dad to do that.
My dad's not a crier.
Like, he's not a fucking crier.
[Neal.]
I know, going into this next race here, I'm gonna be racing some people that have pulled out all the stops, and, so, I decided to upgrade the turbo.
So these larger turbos are simply a way for me to get more power quicker.
[Neal.]
The stakes of this next race are definitely pretty high for me, personally, because I'm trying to solidify the progress that's been made between me and my father.
I would like to, you know, to win for him, yeah.
I would definitely like to see if I could put that smile on his face one more time.
[Justin.]
I made it to the championship round with a stock car.
[cheering.]
I expect to pull up to the race and see serious race cars with serious drivers, that are able to get their cars down the track.
I'm not worried about other supercars.
The McLaren made the 720 to be the fastest supercar produced on the road.
I'm confident that the car is gonna lay down every bit of power that it can.
I hate the word cocky, but we're confident.
So I'm going shoe shoppin'.
- Holy shit.
- Wow.
- [Justin.]
What a collection.
- King would flip.
This is like walkin' into a candy store.
- Yeah, you're a big collector, or - I love 'em.
I try to collect, but - I end up wearing this shit.
- You wear 'em.
- That's what they're for, right? - I'm not trying to resell it.
That's the excuse to buy the second set, though.
- Right.
- [clerk.]
It happens, it happens.
[Justin.]
If my wife wasn't here, I wouldn't be here.
I've been with Danielle 11 years.
[Justin.]
I think she moved in with me after a month or two of dating, and I can probably count on my hands the amount of days we've spent apart.
[Danielle.]
I like these.
I've never seen these before.
Should I get one or two? I mean, get two.
That way you got a backup.
[Justin.]
Danielle was with me when I had nothing and believed in me.
I started my own business doing custom wraps.
Danielle stood behind me when people told her I was crazy, and we ended up making good money off of it.
Havin' someone help and push you to your limits, that's crucial.
[Danielle.]
His drive in life really drives me, and I'm drawn to it.
I wanna be a part of it, and he includes me in everything and we're a great team.
I think there's a lot at stake.
[Justin.]
A supercar won last season and I'm quite sure everyone's out to make sure a supercar doesn't win this season.
So, we'll see if I can pull it off.
[Tiana.]
Adding all this power is great, but, I mean, it could create an issue with traction.
We had to think about, how am I gonna maintain this car without getting crazy when I shift, or when I launch? You know, is it gonna spin everywhere? All the hard work that we have into it, all the sleepless nights, all the money, all the trial and error, it's all gonna be worth it in the end, when I win.
It's instant.
The power was instantaneous, I mean, you couldn't ask for anything better.
- Yeah.
- It's just how to maintain that.
Look like we're ready to go.
Lets dance, rock and roll.
We're racing all winners, so all cars are gonna be fast.
But I feel comfortable, I feel that I can win.
I don't think there's another car that can beat this car.
[Neal.]
My car is up to its full potential, and that combination will, hopefully, lead me to victory.
[Justin.]
There's two buttons I gotta push, and a pedal I'll let go up, and it's over.
Absolutely I want a W.
We don't like to lose.
The car is ready to go.
[Qurann.]
I don't wanna let any of the crew members down.
Long as the car run good, we should come out on top.
- That was way better.
- [Kike.]
Yeah.
[Lyle.]
The power and the will to get back in a race car after my accident comes from just the competitive drive in my blood.
For me, I have such a love for the sport that I just can't remove myself from it.
- How's it going? - How are you, buddy? - Good to see you.
- And you.
- Welcome to California.
- Thank you.
Hm.
Good mornin'.
- How are you? - Good to see you.
- Welcome to the finals.
- Thank you.
Appreciate it.
I am really curious to see what - what shows up.
- What shows up, yeah.
Five more losers.
Yeah, is that a Z What is that? [Lyle.]
Uh-oh.
A Schm-ontiac.
You got a strong third there.
[chuckles.]
- Car's looking good.
- Thank you, man.
Yeah, welcome to the finals.
- How are you? Neal.
- Nice to meet you.
- And you.
- Mark Barnett.
- Neal.
- Nice to meet you.
- No secrets? - No.
No secrets around the turbo outlets and what they can do with them.
- Yeah.
- Holy shit! [Neal.]
Lyle in Beer Money, really cool guy.
Very approachable and, surprisingly, didn't hide a whole lot about the car.
It's 'cause he knows how fast it is.
Damn, that's cool.
Here's someone comin' up.
[man.]
I think you can beat that one.
- [Neal.]
At least I won't come last.
- You guys can get that one.
That must be the supercar.
- Oh, for sure, absolutely.
- [laughs.]
- It's not driven in, so - Right.
[Daniel.]
The other cars, they will be in shock, 'cause, uh, seeing a Honda on the racing game is hard.
[Lyle.]
God, it's a Honda.
[Lyle makes rattling sound.]
[chuckling.]
[Daniel.]
I spend most of the money that I make on this car, and that's the only thing that I do.
Because we love what we do.
[Daniel.]
I don't think they have an idea how fast this car is.
But I will prove that.
I will win.
It's a rear-drive Civic.
- Oh, all-wheel drive.
Oh, fuck! - [Lyle.]
All-wheel drive.
[engine revving.]
[Neal chuckling.]
Holy crap, dude.
[engine revving.]
[Lyle.]
"I am the king.
" - [Neal.]
I guess that'll be decided.
- [laughing.]
Yeah.
- How you doing, bro? - Danny.
- Neal.
- How's it goin? Lyle.
- Danny.
- Nice to meet you.
What's up? I'm confident.
Like, the car is so much fun, she's fast as hell now.
The car screams, the car moves.
[Daniel.]
That's a Mustang? Oh, boy! Are you kidding me? [Tiana.]
That's a Honda.
I don't wanna lose to a Honda.
I'm a domestic girl, I love V8s, I love domestic muscle.
It'd be the worst to lose to an import.
It's a fucking girl driving.
Look at her.
[Daniel.]
It's hard to believe that even a woman does this.
In Cuba, womans, uh, don't drive cars.
But she's here, she's a winner, so I'm pretty sure she's gonna be trouble for us too.
- There you go.
Very nice.
- [Daniel.]
So it's a woman.
- Thanks.
- Are you scared? - Because - You almost lost to a girl last time.
- You gonna lose to a girl today? - No! I don't wanna lose to a girl.
- [Yosmari.]
Why not? - I will not lose to a girl.
[Yosmari.]
I wish my daughter gonna be like that when she grows up.
- What? - Yes! [Yosmari.]
I want my daughter to be whatever she likes, and I think she's gonna like cars.
Daddy doesn't like her to drive a car, but I'm gonna support her in whatever she wants to do.
Mwah! I'm anxious, a little nervous, but that's kind of how it is on, you know, race day.
[Mark.]
After the wreck, people would say that he's crazy for doin' it again, but I'm proud of him for the courage, you know, and and the drive to pursue what is his passion.
Here comes somethin'.
Oh! We got a supercar.
[Justin.]
I'm anxious to see what we're up against.
I have so much respect for the cars that I think I'm gonna be racin', and the level that they're on.
But, uh winnin' is is winnin'.
I want the braggin' rights.
[Justin.]
It's all about pride.
- Justin.
Nice to meet you.
- How you doing? Neal.
- Nice to meet you.
Justin.
- Nice to meet you.
[Neal.]
This is the fastest, like, out-of-the-box supercar you can buy right now.
720, 4.
0 twin turbo V8.
[Daniel.]
That car is super nice, but a supercar is not gonna have the power to get us.
I don't think so.
So we got one more car.
- [Lyle.]
Yeah, one more to go.
- Anybody know? [Qurann.]
I don't know what cars I'm up against, but, uh, as long as my car is making good power, we should win the race.
- How you going, man? - Qurann, how you doing? - Good to see you again.
- Good.
How are you? Oh, shit, am I the only fuckin' supercar here? [Lyle.]
Ten years ago, supercars would've probably had a pretty strong hold out here, but technology has kinda caught up with that world, as far as these built cars are concerned, and he's kind of a sittin' duck.
[Tiana.]
Damn.
[Justin.]
Jesus, these are race cars.
This is the little fucker that runs like sevens.
- Don't be fooled 'cause it's a Honda.
- [Danielle.]
Good grief.
Let's go see this beast.
Hm.
LS2.
- Yeah.
- [laughs.]
So I bet we come in dead fuckin' last.
Today, you know, we're the underdog.
[Justin.]
The McLaren's gonna certainly be underpowered.
Although these cars look like shitboxes, they're supercars underneath, and they have everything they need to outrun my supercar in an event like today.
- It's a stock motor? - Yeah.
You know, stock.
I don't know, a small turbo would help When your turbo's bigger than the liter size of your engine.
[Tiana.]
Aah! For me to win this race, the Beer Money car has to not work properly.
And something with the Honda has to not go well either.
[Mark.]
The Honda was kind of a wild card.
It's like I wasn't really thinkin' about that.
[Lyle.]
The Honda's gonna be tough to deal with.
That thing makes a lotta horsepower at the other end of the track.
I'm still confident, I still feel confident that we've got the car to beat, but what these guys were able to put together, I mean, there's definitely some fast shit over there.
Drivers and teams, may I have your attention, please? Everyone over here, please.
Since it's the championship round, and since we're gonna be running cars six wide, we wanna make sure that you're very comfortable with the lanes and you're very comfortable with the space, so we're gonna permit you to do test runs, and we're gonna do this one at a time.
Bein' that I have the most expensive car here, um, my biggest concern is these cars gettin' out of control.
[Justin.]
I'll be dead honest with you, I am really curious to see their test passes and how well these guys and girls can control these cars.
[Tiana.]
I mean, they're gonna either see my car somewhat work, or I'm gonna miss a shift and laugh.
[chuckles.]
Or they might be, like, "Holy shit!" I don't know.
Um [Tiana.]
I'm hoping it just launches well and then I just handle the rest myself.
[engine revving.]
Jesus, fuck.
[Justin.]
Tiana, with the gray Mustang, made a clean pass down the track.
If that girl can get that car to hook and get it to pass the rest of these cars, she'll definitely have my respect.
[Neal.]
My biggest strength comin' into this race is probably gonna be power.
I have more power than I know what to do with.
[Justin.]
I'm curious to see what this little car does.
[tires squealing.]
McLaren's got that one.
[Neal.]
I don't know how quick mine looked.
It probably wasn't very fast.
But I know what my car's capable of in the top end.
I think that I would have a decent chance at placing, you know, within the top three, if not winning.
[Justin.]
So, you think this car is about to make a good pass? [Tiana.]
Uh, I think it's gonna shock everybody.
Well, we both know, it don't make a fuck what it looks like, that's just a beat up Fox Body shell.
[engine sputters.]
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
[man.]
Oh, oh.
That's not good.
[laughing.]
Let's do this.
[man.]
So the current setup right now, does the car win like that? Nah.
[Qurann.]
When we did the test hit, we kinda had too much power.
It was just blowing the tires off loose.
So I need to take the power down and, like, plant the tires, and, hopefully, the car goes straight.
I think we got this shit, man.
- [man on radio.]
Turn around and - [engine revving.]
I'm better not get beat by a fuckin' Honda! - [man.]
Yeah, yeah! - [laughter.]
- That's a fuckin' outlaw car.
- Oh, man.
[Qurann.]
It's a all-wheel drive Honda, so he got no worries, long as he catch the gears.
And I know his top end is gonna be crazy.
[engine sputters, revs.]
Fucking hell.
- [Tiana.]
Ah! - [Brandon.]
Yes! That's all we need.
That could be a game changer right there.
[Daniel.]
That's not good.
Time to do some wrenching.
[sighs.]
[Daniel.]
We have a issue with the transmission.
We have no second gear, so we gotta fix it fast.
[Qurann.]
That motherfucker ain't goin' nowhere.
[laughter.]
- He can't catch the gear.
- [Lyle.]
Oh, shit! [Yosmari.]
That's a seven-second car.
Let me get away.
A seven-second car, missing a gear, just missed, like, one or two seconds.
[Yosmari.]
Maybe missing seconds still kick some asses.
- Nah! - I don't believe it.
- [Yosmari.]
I believe it! - Yeah.
Trust me, I believe that.
I trust my man.
Mens doesn't realize how much I can fight.
It's for him, for the race, or for whatever they're saying on his back.
Because when he's racing, he's not hearing what people saying about him, so I fight for him like crazy.
That's my work, I don't drive the car, I talk the shit.
[laughter.]
[Daniel.]
Now I'm nervous, you know, but the same time, I wanna get the problem fixed.
[Daniel, in Spanish.]
When I shifted, the transmission jumped.
At this very moment, it doesn't shift to second.
If you shift it on second [in English.]
it jumps.
[in Spanish.]
Now do you understand? We're gonna take this out.
Let's put a normal clutch in.
[Karel, in English.]
This is the shitty part of racing, when something goes wrong.
You don't wish it on anybody.
Uh, it happens to us, happens to everybody.
You just gotta man up to it and fix it and have it ready to race.
[Lyle.]
The Honda, that car makes power, I mean, that's something that makes 1,300.
So, I'll be honest, I'm not nearly as confident as I was when I got here this morning.
He's having some problems, but if he gets it figured out, I'll have my hands full.
[Brandon.]
This thing's gonna just go A to B, fuckin' perfect.
[engine revving.]
[Neal.]
That thing is movin' up top, man, holy fuck.
[Lyle.]
That's what we were lookin' for.
I mean, no spinnin', no out of shape, no nothin'.
That thing was just right down Broadway.
So, uh, we go into the race feelin' a lot more confident, I would say, than most of these guys.
So, are you launching, or are you What do you think? You think I should? - Show us how it's done! - I think everybody wants to see it.
Give 'em a show.
His hardest thing is gonna be settin' up the launch, that's it.
Other than that, it's gonna work.
[in Spanish.]
It runs, man.
The supercar surprised everybody.
[Neal.]
Justin and Tiana had, I think, the best launches out of anybody, so that McLaren may have a fighting chance here.
[Justin.]
I didn't think I was gonna make a test hit, but maybe those guys went, "Hm.
That fucker really does move.
" I think I got in their heads a little bit.
I think they're probably gonna push those cars a little bit harder than they anticipated on pushing 'em.
[in Spanish.]
This selector is bent.
Can we straighten it with some kind of force? [Karel, in English.]
We race on a budget.
And we don't have a spare tranny, we don't have a spare motor, so if something breaks, we have to make the best of it, and there's no time, so it's not good.
- [in Spanish.]
I'm adding silicone.
- [in Spanish.]
Do it calmly.
Okay? Drivers, everyone, please.
Drivers.
[T-Mark.]
Get in your cars, please.
We're gonna go from this pit area over to the track area, and we'll line you up according to your lane assignments.
[Lyle.]
Think we're gon' win, Ni? Hm? You ready to race? [chuckles.]
You ready to race? [in Spanish.]
You have to do the same as before.
Yeah.
From first to third gear without being afraid.
The only one who could be ahead of you is the McLaren.
All these people will spin.
[Daniel, in English.]
I didn't have the time to fix the car, so we're gonna hit the most power that we can on first gear, and then we're gonna hit the most power that the car has on third gear.
[Daniel.]
The race, doing this, you can destroy your motor, you can damage the whole thing.
But, right now, the point where we are we prefer to take nothing back than take a lose.
But I We still think that we still have a chance.
- You ready? - Yeah, as ready as I can be.
[Neal.]
My dad's a winner.
I'm still gonna try to give it everything I got to make him proud.
[Qurann.]
I'm pumped.
It's a big deal.
Once I'm in the driver's seat, I'm pretty much focused to come out there and win for the Alameda Boyz.
All right, love you.
[Lyle.]
Me and my dad, we've put a lot of time and effort, money into this deal, and to make it all worth it, to be satisfied, I wanna win.
Give me a big kiss, baby.
[Tiana.]
The sleepless nights that Brandon has endured for myself, that's all I'm thinking, I just need to win it for him so it was all worth it.
We got this shit.
We'll go play with the race cars.
Okay.
[Justin.]
I drive to win, and the only thing I'm thinkin' about is crossin' that finish line first, then kick back and then hang out with the wife.
[in Spanish.]
Be careful.
These cars can hit you.
[Daniel.
in English.]
If I win this race, it will change my life forever because it gonna bring me a lot of reputation.
[engines revving.]
[onlookers clamoring.]
[woman.]
Oh, shit! - It's Lyle.
- It's Lyle.
[siren wailing.]
Thank you, dear Lord Thank you, dear Lord.
Is he okay? [man.]
Oh, it made my heart fucking go.
- [man 2.]
Fucking - [man 3.]
Wow, man.
[man on radio.]
Driver appears okay.
Car appears stable.
- [sighs.]
- Oh, my God [man.]
Copy.
Please stay back here.
We'll keep you alerted as to what's happening.
Driver is out of the car and we believe the driver is fine.
Thank you.
He fucking lost it.
Came across everybody's lane.
Holy shit.
[sniffles.]
- What's up, man? - [Lyle.]
Fuckin' scared me.
God, man.
It's all right.
- The bitch was out front, too.
- Yeah, I know.
I know.
[scoffs.]
Man.
[Tiana.]
Dude, man, you can't do that! - [Tiana sobs.]
- [Lyle.]
Sorry.
- [Tiana.]
You okay? - Yeah.
All I saw behind me is just fuckin' Mustang man.
I'm sorry.
- You scared the shit outta me.
- I'm sorry.
- Aww.
- [Tiana sobs.]
- Did you see him? - Yeah, he came right in front of me.
- I know, I saw - Yeah, I was catching up to him and he fucking came right in front of me.
When I caught high gear, it stepped out hard.
- I saw.
- Whoosh! - Thank God it turned left.
- I know.
But I was like, "Fuck, I hope he didn't hit nobody else.
I hope" Yeah.
[laughs.]
That was tight, he crossed in front of us.
- Right in front.
- Good he didn't hit nobody cars.
- Yeah, exactly.
- That's the best thing.
- But - Yeah.
That was a close call, but it's all right, as long as he's not hurt.
He's all right.
- [Brandon.]
You good? - All I saw was just Mustang, - like, in my mirror, I'm so - It's okay.
It's okay.
He started driftin' like this, and we see your back bumper and we're like, 'Fuckin' A.
" Oh, it was so close.
- I saw it in every mirror.
- [Brandon.]
Oh, shit.
- [Ryan.]
That close, huh? - Yeah, that close.
All I saw was white.
[Ryan.]
You're good, you're good.
- He's good, everybody's good.
- Dad's on the phone.
Sorry about that.
So unbelievable.
- Sorry about that.
- Glad you're okay.
- Sorry it was in front of y'all, man.
- Aaah! - Listen, I did all I could.
- That's good.
- No, we see you coming, so we let off.
- Sorry about that, dude.
- That's it.
- Yeah, safety.
- For safety.
- [laughter.]
I mean, you go another go another 20 foot that way, we're in that fuckin' rock pile, you know? That shit woulda hurt.
[Lyle.]
It was runnin' along, truckin' along pretty good, and then all of a sudden, it wasn't.
When the car's runnin' 140 mile an hour and it decides it's lost traction, sometimes it's just too damn late, you know, and really, I don't know if there was anything I coulda done.
But I'm just glad everybody was okay.
I can imagine that my dad was standin' there, thinkin', "Shit, not again.
" [Mark.]
They all know what can happen out here.
It was good to see just how everybody came together when it was all said and done, and that's what it's all about.
And, uh [sniffles.]
Yeah, what I think he deserved, you know, I mean.
Coulda been a lot worse.
[sighs.]
Hey, I ain't gonna lie, before the race, I was like, "I don't know, that bitch is gonna have to drive the fuck out that car" - Yeah, I am.
- And Hey, girl.
You got all the respect in the world from me.
- You drove the fuck out that car.
- Yeah.
We got a So, who won? - [Tiana.]
I don't know.
- We don't know.
- [Daniel.]
I was all behind.
- Think it's between us.
- Between the Mustang and the McLaren.
- Did you guys Drivers and friends and family, everyone over here, please.
- [Tiana.]
I don't know.
- [Brandon.]
Stand in front of me.
- You better champagne shower me if I do.
- Psssht! [T-Mark.]
We had a good race.
We did have a car lose control.
Lyle, you should be proud of what you did and you you should be proud of what you came here to show.
'Cause you showed that you can build a car and run a car, and if it gets wrong, you showed that you can do the right thing, so, you should be proud of yourself.
Your friends and family who helped you come here, you all should be proud of what you did.
- So, a round of applause for that.
- Thank you.
I didn't know a damn one of y'all when we got here.
None of you.
And now we've got we've all got new friends, you know? All Everybody standin' behind us here.
I had a bad experience several years ago [voice breaking.]
and it's people like y'all that stood behind me, and it's why I still do this today.
You guys behind me put put the fire in me that makes me wanna do this, and that's not gonna stop me from doin' it.
I'd meet y'all back out here in a month when I fix that pile of shit.
[laughter.]
And we'd take a couple of degrees out.
About four pounds of boost.
But, you know And I'll fix Beer Money and we'll be back out.
Maybe meet some of you guys somewhere, some day You got it.
You know, it's Everybody's good.
Any time.
- Okay.
- All right.
All right.
[T-Mark.]
All right, so what we've all been waiting for.
[clears throat.]
And we have, in fifth position - And thank you for losin'.
- [laughter.]
I didn't wanna hear her, I I didn't wanna hear it.
We have Daniel in fifth position.
- Congratulations.
- [Daniel.]
We got a super good launch.
When we went to third, we couldn't get, uh, no gears, so, you see all the drivers, uh, coming right next to me, and that moment, I realize we was losing.
I'm not going home as the loser.
If I look back where we was at ten years ago, where we are now [in Spanish.]
I would think that we are winning.
[in English.]
For me, I'm winning.
I'm taking Danny and the car safe home.
That's, for me for me, that's winning.
And now, in fourth place, - we have Neal.
- Yeah, it's gonna be me.
[chuckles.]
[Neal.]
You know, this whole experience, as as enlightening as it was for me and as scary as it was, this whole experience is somethin' that I'll never forget.
We all share the same passion and at the end of the day, it's that fire that's never gonna stop burning, you know? [Ash.]
It's almost unbelievable that this piece of metal can bring two human beings together and create a new bond.
I think it's an amazing father-son story that we can sit and grow old with.
So in third place, we have Qurann.
- [Tiana.]
Woo! - [Daniel.]
Congratulations.
[T-Mark.]
Congratulations.
[Qurann.]
I mean, it was a good experience, I mean, coming out here, being able to race and meet new people.
I mean, it's part of the sport, and, I don't know, have fun.
That's the best thing about it and it's like once-in-a-lifetime thing.
[laughter.]
The first place car and driver, by a nose [Justin.]
The McLaren left really, really good.
I was right beside Beer Money, and looked over, Lyle's car took a hard left, and at that point, I never lifted, I stayed in it the whole way.
It's me and that car, and we dance well together.
[Tiana.]
When I leave the line, you know, I gas it a little bit harder than normal.
because I see a car jump out next to me.
And I shifted, and then I didn't see anybody.
That's when I saw white on my right-side mirror, and I don't recall what my foot did, you know, with the throttle.
Like, I don't even know at the end what happened, who was first, I I didn't see.
I didn't see any other car, because, literally, the only thing I could think about was what happened to Lyle.
The winner, who will take the title of Fastest Car is Justin.
[cheering.]
Yes! [Daniel.]
Congratulations! [T-Mark.]
And before we hear from Justin, our winner, we wanna talk to Tiana, who came in second place.
I wanna, number one, commend you for what you did.
Give you a round of applause.
This experience has taught me that I can handle more than I think I can handle.
I've never been put in a situation with that much pressure, and I'm actually quite proud of myself that I was able to handle it how I did.
I was able to race the fastest supercar that's produced today, and I am not disappointed losing to that car.
[Brandon.]
I think that second place, to me, is just as good as first place.
She chose this car, she chose this combo, she chose everything and, against all odds, she showed up and just clowned us all.
She got a lotta respect and will get a lotta respect from this.
[T-Mark.]
Justin, you are the winner.
[Justin.]
I can't believe we won, like, I'm I'm overwhelmed at that and super excited and proud.
But hats off to these other racers, everyone from the first race I did to this race.
Every driver has has been incredible, the stories are amazing and, um and I just love being out here.
I grew up poor.
Ten years ago, Danielle and I were livin' in a one-bedroom apartment, I had my motorcycle in the living room, literally, 'cause that's all we had, and we shared a Toyota Camry.
So, to be here today is incredible.
- [T-Mark.]
Nice.
Well, thank you.
- Thank you.
- [T-Mark.]
Congratulations.
- [applause.]
[cheering.]
Congratulations.
- [Lyle.]
Good job, dawg.
- Congratulations.
Good job.
You know, I I say it all the time, drag racin's a drug, man, and the drug is is the adrenaline rush of that thing being on the verge of of outta control.
[Lyle.]
You know, blessed to to get outta that one, uh, unscathed and live to race another day.
[laughter.]
[chattering and laughing.]
