- On this episode of Haunted Collector Here we are in Las Vegas.
There were gamblers who were found dead.
I felt something grab my arm.
- I can hear it over here! - Oh, my God.
Here we are in Glendora, California.
I saw like a black mist coming towards me.
- Earthquake? What the hell was that? - I don't know.

"Get out".
"Victim deceased"? What the (Bleep)? My name is John Zaffis.
For over 40 years, I've been helping people with their paranormal problems.
I found that spirits can attach themselves to objects.
- Whoa! - Oh, there it goes! Oh, my God! And make life a living hell.
That's where my team comes in.
My son Chris My daughter Aimee Brian, my tech guy Jason, my researcher And Jesslyn, my investigator.
My job? - What is that? - Don't touch that thing.
Find the haunted item and remove it, because I am The Haunted Collector.
- Hey! - Hey, I was looking for you guys.
What are you up to? Oh, just unpacking the van.
Well, don't unpack too much.
We just got a client submission from Vegas.
Oh, nice.
- Yeah, you feeling lucky? - Yeah.
Guess so.
My name is Tim Lager.
I'm the General manager of Binion's Gambling Hall and Hotel in Las Vegas.
And our employees have experienced certain things that we really can't explain in different areas that have been closed for several years.
We've had employees feel like they've been grabbed, they've seen an image of a person.
They've heard some voices.
And right now, we just want to make sure that this doesn't go any further than it already has.
We definitely don't want our customers on the casino floor to experience what our employees have been experiencing recently.
Sounds like they need our help out there.
And I'm telling youse all now, you know, don't be doing too much investigating near all the slot machines, because the old man's not paying to get youse all back home.
Let's head on out there, guys, okay? - Yeah.
- All right.
Well, guys, here we are in Las Vegas.
A lot of people look at the new part of Las Vegas, the luxurious hotels, but we're actually going to be dealing with the older part, rich in history.
Who knows exactly what transpired in a lot of those places? We're on our way to Binion's Casino, guys.
Now, the hotel area above the casino is closed for renovations, and that's where the disturbances are being reported.
What they're really concerned about is they don't want the paranormal activity going down into the casino area, which is still operating and open.
You guys get the equipment set up.
Jess, Brian, go and talk with the witnesses.
- Hi, how's it going? - Hey, Tim, John Zaffis.
- Welcome to Binion's.
- Well, thanks for having us.
- You bet.

- Okay.
So tell me about this area here.
Well, you know, Binion's is actually made up of two properties.
There's the Binion's and then The Mint Hotel that they purchased in 1988.
Um, this is the original Mint, and this area here is a former buffet that's been shut down for a few years, and we seem to have quite a bit of activity back here in this kitchen area, and it just seems to be getting worse and worse.
Okay.
Over in this area here is a walk-in cooler.
Mm-hmm.
And that's where Justin, our bar back, something grabbed him.
I came up here this certain night, no different from any other, and I was looking in the cooler to see how much beer we had, and right when I put my hand up on the cooler, I felt, like, something grab my arm and squeeze for about five seconds and almost kind of twisted.
And, immediately, there was a hand print on it and, on the back, there was about four marks where the fingers were.
- Really? - Yeah.
- Do you have a picture of it, a photo? - Oh, yeah, absolutely.
This was the picture right here, and you can almost see how the - Yeah.
- The thumbprint and the bulk of the hand.
But, um, I can't say I was ever much of a believer, but after, you know, it happened to me that night, that definitely made me a believer.
This is the original part of the property.
It was opened in 1932 as The Apache Hotel.
- Mm-hum.
- It became Binion's in 1951.
This area here has been closed down for several years, but this is the area that Frank Moreno He's a really famous female impersonator here in town - Mm-hum.
- He says he's seen some stuff and really can't explain what What it was.
I remember walking out of the room and seeing sort of like an older gentleman sort of like with a limp walking and going around the bend.
Something just seemed weird, so I walked a little faster and looked around the thing, and the person was gone.
There was no stairs, there was no elevator, there was no room that he could have even gone in.
With my own eyes, I saw something that, somebody else I might have said "Oh, maybe it was your imagination".
But I know what I saw.
Well, we had to move some stuff around, and these are a few of the things that the staff had found.
We thought we'd show those to you and see if it has anything to do with anything.
Oh.
It's an old razor.
They've been tied in with a lot of murders, a lot of suicides.
Makes a nice clean cut and, boy, that blood can flow.
Looks like an old matchbook from The Mint, and that was the hotel on the other side.
Exactly.
An old poker chip, "El Rancho Vegas".
This property's been closed for years and years.
Who knows how long that's been here on the property? - Hmm.
- Almost looks like melted or burned.
Yeah, interesting.
Good catch, Aim.
How did that chip actually end up here, and it has these burn marks? Was it involved with a fire? I'm hoping that's one of the things we can uncover during our investigation.
This room is located right behind room 400.
- Mm-hum.
- And they tell me back in the day, they used to use this as a count room, so they had the money back here.
I've heard different stories that they used to, you know, hide the money underneath the floorboards.
And the weird thing about it is, in the original blueprints, it's not showing this area.
- Oh, so this whole level - It's not in the blueprints, so we're not sure exactly when it was done, but it's kind of strange.
- That's very strange.
- Okay, all right.
We had our engineers working in here recently, and when they were back here, they found this old tie clip.
Tie clips, they were very personal items.
It's not an unusual thing to have energy attached to it, but it is kind of odd to find it up in an area like this.
Exactly.
My assistant actually was back here.
She says she heard clear as day a voice that said, "get out, bitch".
Um, she swears by it, and she got out, and she hasn't been back in here since.
So, you know, we're not sure exactly what all is going on.
We obviously want to resolve this before it ever goes down and really affects any of our guests.
Alright, well Tim, I'm gonna get my team in here to try and verify some of the things that you're actually telling us.

Binion's is a landmark casino with older sections that are closed to the public.
There are several areas here we need to check out.
We have the kitchen And room 338 And above all that is the secret room.
We got a lot of ground to cover.
Allegedly, from what Tim was telling us, they used to count the money up here and everything.
Let's see if we get any EMF readings.
One of the guys that was doing maintenance had found this tie clip.
- Really? - Yeah.

I spoke to Justin, the assistant bartender, and he had an experience around this refrigerator.
He said he opened this up.
And when he came out Something like he put his hand up And that's when something grabbed onto his arm.
Well, I'm not getting anything abnormal.
- No.
- You used to work in a kitchen, right? - Yeah.
- Like, could it be, you know, freezer burn? Could it be that he put his arm in, didn't feel it So that when it came out, there might have been a mark on his arm? Yeah, you get burns and all this other crap on your arms all the time.
Here's a couple of the items.
They found an old chip, matches from when the hotel was The Mint, and then an old razor.
Let's try to get some readings.

I didn't get anything at all off of anything.

I'm trying to debunk this sound, and I see an enormous spider.
I was frightened for one of the first times ever while investigating.

Jason and I looked into the melted poker chip from the El Rancho Hotel.
It turns out the hotel did burn down in 1960, but nobody died in the fire.
So now we're meeting up with a historian to see what else we can find out about Binion's Casino.
Can you tell us anything about who ran the casino before the Binion family? Well, Binion's started out as The Apache Hotel.
It was built in 1931.
In 1944, the casino was rented out to a former illegal offshore gambler, Tony Cornero, who also went by Tony Stralla.
He had a long trail of violent incidents.
There were gamblers who were found dead, and Tony and his brothers were often suspected.
They were never convicted of any murders, but I believe he had killed several people.
Brian, did you have a chance to get those EVPs cleaned up? Yeah, I did.
Can you tell us what this room was used for? Stralla.
I'm hearing "Stralla".
I can hear that as clear as day, "Stralla".
Uh, Dad, there's a guy that ran the casino before Binion's in the 1940s.
His name was Tony Cornero.
The weird thing is one of his aliases was Stralla.
Wow.
Okay.
It's definitely lining up and makes some sense to me here.
Sometimes people read into EVPs what they want to hear, but in this case, we heard "Stralla" before we knew anything about Tony Cornero.
So we'll definitely have to look further into this tonight.
All right, we might as well just kick right in for tonight.
Brian will be on surveillance and will also conduct experiments in the secret room on the fourth floor.
Jason and Jesslyn will be focused on room 338 where we saw the spider, and Chris and I will cover the rest of the third floor.
So tonight, I'll be manning the cameras.
In addition to watching the entire team go throughout the hotel, I will be setting up with the REM Pod up on the fourth floor in the secret room.
The REM Pod generates its own small electromagnetic field, so if anything tries to come into that field, an alarm will go off and the lights will flash.

camera I have trained on the room, I'll be able to keep an eye on it.

After seeing that spider, I wasn't crazy about going back into room 338.
But on the other hand, I wanted to get back in there and try to debunk those banging noises.

- Here? - Yep, up in there.
It actually feels kind of wet.
It could just be water damage.
Yeah, there is a lot of water damage over there.
There's no reason to think that it's anything paranormal.

I set up the REM Pod in the secret room, and when I saw the REM Pod start to flash, I knew that it was time to go up there and check out what's going on.
Hey, what you got? I'm uh, watching the REM Pod go off.
Okay, let's see if we get any EMF.

All right, this seems to be quite the hot spot.
We're getting EVPs in here, you're telling me the REM Pod went off.
You know, I'm beginning to wonder if all this is actually tying in with this item.
I'm gonna have to have Aimee dig into it a little bit more to see what she can find out.
The tie clip has an insignia, "wizard," on it But Aimee found out that it may not be a tie clip at all.
She was able to connect me with a gambling historian named Whit Haydn.
Well, what you have here, this is a little wizard.
Okay.
This is a gambling device probably made during the 1890s.
It's a device meant for card cheats to use.
What they would do, they would take a card.
And place it into the device Like so And then the sleeve comes down over it.
Now when he's got a hand of cards Mm-hmm.
And see, this hand he has two aces and two jacks.
So what he would do at some point, he'll just slip this card right out of the gimmick and into his hand, then he'll bring the card he wants to get rid of to the top, and as this hand takes the cards, that card just comes right into his palm here.
And then he reaches for his lighter Or for a cigar And gets rid of it, and now he has a full house.
So would it be safe to say that this still would be used in, like, the '30s and the '40s? Oh, yes.
This is the kind of tool that's used by an amateur cheat.
Okay.
Because if you're caught with this, it's very big trouble.
It's evidence that you were cheating.
If somebody did get caught with something like that, what would happen to them? Well, if it was found in the casino back in the '30s and '40s, you know, very well could have been killed.
We have a device used by gamblers for cheating, and before the casino became Binion's, there was a manager who may have used violence to deal with cheaters.
Did something happen in the secret room involving Tony Stralla and a gambler caught cheating? I have a lot to go over with Tim.

And with the kitchen, we really didn't get anything too significant.

- But we were getting a lot of activity in the secret room on the fourth floor.
We were getting some high EMF readings off of that little clip when we did our baseline sweep through there.

- That tells me that energy was actually attached to that item.

That's amazing.
I'm not quite sure if you're able to understand what it's saying.
- But it's saying "Stralla".
- "Stralla," yeah.
Yeah, clear as day.
I don't know what that means.
What is it? Stralla was actually a known alias of Tony Cornero.
Tony Cornero ran the casino in the '40s long before the Binions.
Oh, wow.
He was kind of known for some of his violence and that type of thing.
Really? Wow.
Yeah, so when we did our overnight investigation, we had what we call a REM Pod that was up there.
- Okay.
- It's a little device and, if there's any energy in one area, it will start to pick up on it.
And it started going crazy over that tie clip thing that was up there.
- Right.
- I basically had taken that item to an expert to be able to give me some information, and it's actually not a tie clip.
- Really? - It's a gambling cheating device used to hide a card up a sleeve.
Really? We don't know what happened up in the secret room.
I mean, you know as well as I do, back in the '40s, the organized crime and everything was a lot looser and a lot crazier.
- Things happened back then.
- Right.
So if anybody was trying to manipulate something in a card game, who knows what could've possibly happened? But I definitely feel that there is a negative energy associated with that.
- Okay.
- So at this point in time, Tim, I would like to ask you what would you like to do? Well, I'd prefer that you take it with you.
I mean, anything negative, I really don't want my employees to have to deal with.
- Mm-hmm.
- So I'd prefer that it just be removed.

We really appreciate John and his team coming in here.
When you're in the hospitality industry the last thing you need is any negative effect on your staff and your customers.
So we're greatly relieved that he found the thing that seemed negative that we could remove from the property and just leave the positive things that have been here for so many years.
We'll never know what really happened in the secret room, but hopefully, by removing the cheating device, Tim and his staff can get back to business without any fear of the paranormal.

I'm from Glendora, California.
Me and my family live on about 10 acres of land.
I come from a law enforcement background, so I've never really been afraid of things, but something here is evil.
I have personally heard bangs on my walls, scratches.
I've been sleeping and have felt my bed moving.
I need some answers and some answers soon, because I'm at the point now where I'm really starting to fear for our safety here.

So we're on Route 66, which is very historic.
It's also known as the Main Street of America.
We're going to Pedro Gomez's home.
This is a very interesting property because it's like a compound.
It's on 10 acres.
His parents live in one house, and he's in another house.
Now, the house was abandoned for several years, and a lot of different things probably transpired on that piece of property that nobody knows about.
The house was actually known locally to be haunted, so a lot of the high school kids would jump the fence and do investigations of their own.
That's how those urban legends get born, and uh, we're gonna have to try to figure out how to separate the legend from what actually is going on in there.
Wow.
Looks like a huge piece of property.
This could to be a little spooky when the gates close and we're inside.
You're not kidding.
Aimee and I are gonna head in and meet with Pedro.

This is the main house that we're in right now where my Mother and Father reside.
And I reside next door close by.
When we purchased the home, it had been abandoned for a couple of years.

- So the inside was just kind of upside down, graffiti everywhere.
The experiences that we've been having have actually been everywhere.
It's not just isolated to one home or another.
- Mm-hm.
- First we see shadows or feel something, a presence here.
It grew to hearing noises, scratching, knocking on walls.
I don't like being here alone.
I feel that there's always something here, a negative energy, someone's watching me.
I don't know what I can do to protect my family.
It was the first time that I ever felt fear.
- What the hell was that? - I don't know.
There were scratch marks with blood.

The Gomez family compound is a huge piece of property where there's been all kinds of unexplained activity reported.
Pedro has been in law enforcement for many years, but even he hasn't been able to figure out what's happening.
Something that I wanted you to take a look at that perhaps is of interest to you.
It's this pair of gloves that we found when we first moved into the house.
Where in the house did you find them? We actually found them right by the kitchen.
Well, wearing gloves that were up to the elbow were very common in the '40s and '50s.
There could be a lot of history behind them.
I mean who knows who they could have belonged to? Also, in this room specifically here, my Mom has felt a presence of some sort, a dark shadow coming towards her.
So you've had a few experiences, yes? Yes, yes, I've had a few experiences.
Um, as a matter of fact, throughout the whole house.
This particular one, I fell asleep on the sofa, and something woke me up in the middle of the night.
And as I looked this way, I saw like a black, I don't know if it was like a cloud or mist or something coming towards me.
As it started getting closer to me, I felt that if it got to me, it wasn't gonna be something good.
And I couldn't speak, I couldn't move, but one of my dogs was sleeping right at the foot of the stairs.
He got up, and as soon as he started walking towards me, that black thing just, you know, went out to the side.
It was the first time that I ever felt fear.
Let me take you guys downstairs where I've experienced some other activity.
This house was a halfway home with one of the previous owners.
And we noticed that there was beds, mattresses, clothing, identification cards, medical records.
Everything was left behind.
On this wall here There was actual scratch marks with blood.
And I was able to identify that it was blood.
- Mm-hum.
- But it's extremely disturbing to me, at least, and I just feel very uncomfortable when I'm down here.
And we also noticed something hanging from one of the trees outside.
It was an actual noose.
This here, we saved it.
The original noose was made of, you know, 13 coils that went all the way down, so that it would snap the neck and the person wouldn't linger.
Pedro, what made you think to keep it? Uh, something told me just to keep it.
Pedro pointed out this rope that was down here.
Do I know that this was actually associated with anything? Not at this point in time.
We're here in my home.
This house was completely a wreck.
This fireplace here, there was writing on the fireplace.
It had bones laying up on top here all the way across.
This was probably used as an altar of some type.
A lot of times, these places that are abandoned, and people come in and they break in, they will do a lot of different types of rituals.
But do people do these things joking around, creating symbols just to scare people? Absolutely.
Well, this is my bedroom, guys.
This is where we've been getting the most activity in our entire property.
There was a time where was laying in bed, my friend was spending the night with me.
And I felt the bed shaking.
We were both laying in bed and, you know, trying to go to sleep, and then we feel the bed shaking.
And so I asked Pedro, I was like "hey, Pedro, were you moving your leg?" He's like, "no, were you?" I go, "no".
We just didn't have an explanation for why the bed moved.
It just really freaked me out.
This is something that was in the house - when we first moved in.
- Mm-hmm.
It has some pictures in there.
I have no idea who those people are.
Wow.
It seems like there's really a variety to them.
Well, I have to get the team in here.
I want to set up and do our baseline.
I'm gonna do everything I can to help you and your family.

Well, just about all of Pedro's family has had experiences here in the living room area.
We should go over and check out where the gloves are, Jess.
I'm getting a tiny bit of temperature spike.
But I just went from, you know, up a little bit higher to down a little bit lower.
We all know heat rises, so I won't take that for much.
I'm not really getting anything at all.
Did you get that program loaded on the laptop? Right here, buddy.

Pedro reported some unknown rumblings in his house.
Chris and I thought it would be prudent to load some software on the computer that can measure seismic activity.
The way this program operates, any vibration in the house or in the room will be detected.
See how they're all flat lined right now? - Yeah.
- Okay, here's what a shake will do.
And then it stops when everything calms down, back to flat line.
But this is very sensitive, so if anything in here, and especially if the room shakes, this will pick it up.
Awesome.
Feel like going upstairs and checking out that fireplace? - Yeah, sounds like a plan.

Right on this wall over here, he actually had found blood, and he found the fingerprints through it.
- That's disturbing.

It measures the energy in the room, and it actually converts it into words based on a dictionary that is built into the device.

I decided to use the Ovilus during our baseline.
Several things kept coming through, and it was very consistent.
Is something some way trying to tell us something? At that point, I really don't know.

Think we got anything? We're in the middle of our sweep, and Chris and I feel a rumble.
- Scanning back.
- Is that it? Yeah, going from a zero, which is normal, to point 38.
After checking the computer, the readout showed that, yes, something did happen in or around this area.
- Hey, guys.
- Did you guys just feel that? - Feel what? - No.
- You're telling me you didn't feel that? - No.
Pretty much, the house just shook.
- Did it? - Yeah.
Brian and I definitely felt something, and when we checked the U.

Geological Website, they did report a tremor in Baja, California, at the same time.
We're on a fault line, these things happen all the time, I don't think it was anything paranormal.
- Got that? - Got it.
Jason and I found out that Pedro's property used to be owned by an upper crust family, who used to throw lavish parties in the 1940s.
Then the property fell into decline, and it became a halfway house in the 1980s.
So now we're meeting with a Police Captain who remembers responding to calls on the property during this period of time.
What was the property like at that time? They stuffed as many beds into this facility as they possibly could.
It was a private owner at the time, and the more people that they can put in here, the more money they made.
What kind of people would be living here? People who were released from prison, so it could be people here for violent pasts, for assault, drug use, for theft.
I had been here once or twice as a result of calls for service here.
One time, we used a battering ram for a barricaded suspect.
Wow.
Hundreds of ex-cons were staying at the house at a time.
So, I mean, these are guys that could have committed serious crimes, and maybe even committed crimes while they were living in the house.
Well, that's interesting.
Pedro is definitely involved with law enforcement, and you're telling me ex-convicts lived here.
I don't know.
This is something I really want to dig a lot deeper into.
For tonight's investigation, Chris will be at the monitors in our mobile command center.
Brian and Jess will check out the main house, and Jason and I will be across the way in Pedro's house.

So Pedro's Mom said that the shadow came towards her.

- Kind of wanna trap this room with two shadow detectors.

The way the shadow detector works is that it measures the amount of light going from the emitter to the collector, and if anything crosses it, the shadow detector will go off with an alarm and lights.

I mean, the second we pull it out and read what it says, "victim deceased," we heard this crash, and it literally scared the crap out of me.

First, we find a photo that says "victim" and "deceased" And, at the same time, Pedro's picture falls off the wall upstairs.
Is it associated with something here? I'm not quite sure, but it's awful coincidental.
Well, I can't wait to sit down and talk to him tomorrow about all this.
Pedro, we had quite a bit of activity that has transpired here in your home.
We did some testing with the rumblings and got a seismograph set up downstairs.

But here, again, the property's on one of the faults, so you continuously have that in this area.

As we were looking through the photos, we had flipped this one over.
As you can see, some of the information on the back of it.
And at the same exact time that that happened, we had a big bang and crash up here.
And when we came up, I turned and looked and realized that the picture of you had ended up on the floor and the frame had broken.
Think about that, being involved with law enforcement.
Right.
Maybe this is a victim of a murder or a violent crime.
Is it a possibility that he was reaching out to you? - Yes.

We may never know what was reaching out to Pedro But sometime just acknowledging a spirits presence can put an end to any negative activity.
