[frantic music playing]
Did we find my blue sunglasses?
No, I went through all the glasses.
So strange. I just wore them.
[Julia] Today is the big day.
We are going to Texas.
My only happy moments
and happy memories from my childhood
are in Austin, Texas.
I was born in Moscow, Russia.
And before my family moved to Monsey,
we lived in Austin.
What I've been going through with Sylvia
was taking a toll on all of us.
So to have an opportunity to go away
and share happy memories I have,
I hope is going to bring us
even closer together.
Let's go, let's go!
[Miriam] Okay.
[Nathalie] Do you have your passport?
Or whatever you need as an American?
I have an ID.
-Thank you.
-My pleasure.
[upbeat music playing]
Guys, we're in Texas!
-[Miriam] Whoo!
-We're in Texas!
I'm so excited.
Look, guitars! It's the South! [laughs]
Do you realize I have not been back here
in almost 40 years?
We kept kosher
since I was, like, nine years old.
Like, I never got to taste Texas barbecue.
I want pork. I want barbecue
for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I'm so excited! I can't stand it! Ah!
I've been talking about Austin
to my kids for years.
I haven't been back here
since I was eleven years old.
And I am flooded
by so many memories.
I was three and a half
when we left Moscow.
When my parents saw
what communism actually was,
they became completely disillusioned.
And that's when they started
studying Judaism underground.
They were caught,
and my father was imprisoned.
And at the same time,
Russia was having a massive hunger.
So America gave Russia grain, and Russia
released a bunch of Jewish prisoners.
So that was my parents,
and we all moved to Texas.
I remember everything.
It was pretty crazy.
[upbeat music playing]
[Miriam] Cheers, guys.
-Cheers!
-[Miriam] To Austin!
-To Austin!
-[Shlomo] Yeah, cheers.
[Miriam] To all the Bs.
Barbecue, beer, and bitches.
-[Nathalie] Burgers.
-[Miriam laughs]
[Shlomo] Okay.
[Robert] Hello!
[all] Hello!
Roberto!
[Robert sighs]
This is a cute house!
Oh my God! Ranch style realness!
[warble tongue] Yas!
-[Julia] You got your Sonic!
-Of course I got a Sonic!
We're in Texas, baby!
This is a Route 44, Diet Dr. Pepper.
Easy on the ice,
add diet cherry and vanilla.
-[Miriam] Got it.
-Okay?
[humming]
We are home at last, Lord! ♪
Yes! I'm so happy
to be back in Texas, honey.
Where the wildflowers bloom,
the belts are big,
the titties are bigger,
and we are all in our hats.
I got the joy, joy, joy, joy
Down in my heart! Hey-hey! ♪
We're in Texas now, baby.
So excited just to escape
all the noise of this lawsuit
and hope to God that Julia can take
a moment to get away from all the drama
and just have fun with family.
I heard there's this barbecue place
called Cooper's.
-[Miriam] What's Cooper's?
-I don't know.
-[Batsheva] BBQ.
-Oh!
Cooper's Old Time Pit.
-Ooh! I love a pit!
-[Nathalie] Oh!
I love a pit. Girl!
Maybe here in Austin, Texas,
I should go on
-[Robert] A date?
-[Batsheva] Oh!
[Robert] Yes! I love that for you.
I'm gonna have to look on my dating apps.
-Am I gonna find any men in Austin?
-Let's see what's on Grindr.
-[Miriam] A pecan cobbler sounds good.
-We went from barbecue to Grindr!
Different kinds of meat, people!
[Robert] Girl! They both go down easy!
-[Miriam] Oh!
-I'mma tell you that much!
-Different kinds of meat.
[laughter]
["This Is My Time" by Klover playing]
[phone chimes]
[Ra'ed, on the phone]
Hey, babe! How're you doing?
Are you
30 minutes into a melatonin?
[laughs] What's going on?
-The time difference.
-[sighs]
Okay, well I just wanted
to update you on my meeting that I had.
-Oh my gosh, tell me.
-So it's actually really good.
But also, um, a little scary, so
These guys at Daniel Hoff,
I sent them some recordings of me.
And basically
they're, like, ready to sign me.
After I delivered
some materials to the agent,
they decided that, yes,
they do want to sign me.
This is what every little theater kid
ever dreams about,
having an agent on Broadway.
As excited as I am to, like,
have this huge step come to fruition,
there is a big, big elephant
in the room in that
I am committed to the Haart Sphere.
I don't know how I can do both
at the same time.
What?
So they're gonna start pitching me
to casting agents next week.
Shut the fuck up. You're waking me up.
My melatonin is going away.
Oh my God. I feel like I have
to tell Julia at some point on this trip.
My brain is not there right now.
My brain is, like, "Robert on stage!"
All I want you to do is just win a Tony,
an Emmy, a Grammy, and an Oscar,
so we can be an EGOT!
Oh my God, you'll be so jealous
if I get on Broadway. Oh my God.
I am jealous. I'm not gonna be jealous.
I've been jealous.
[Robert laughs]
Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.

so I can find where we're going.
I'm so excited. I'm gonna show
my family, my kids, where I grew up.

[Julia] We're gonna go see my house.
Hopefully, we can knock on the door
and someone will let us in.
That would be so cool.
Let's do this!
[Robert] Is anything kind of sparking
a little bit of
[Julia] Yeah, totally.
-[Shlomo] Okay.
-[Robert] Here we are.
Oh my God, this is so crazy!
This is where our family's first part
of being in America started.
Guys, this is where I grew up.
The last time I was here,
I did a report on Walt Disney.
Did you use the internet to do the report?
-Did you read books?
-No, there was no internet, silly.
-There was no internet?
-[Julia] No.
[Miriam] Whoa.
I used to hide behind bushes with my bike
and try to find mysteries
-'cause I wanted to be Trixie Belden.
-Aw!
I have no clue who that is.
Trixie Belden was a girl detective
who lived in the Adirondacks
and she solved mysteries.
But I like Trixie Belden
better than Nancy Drew
'cause Nancy Drew is too girly for me.
I was a massive tomboy. Sound familiar?
-[Nathalie] Me too.
-Yeah, we're all tomboys here.
[Julia] Guys! Guys! Guys!
This is where I lived!
[Robert] Oh my God. Are you serious?
[Julia] I am serious.
-[Miriam] There's a little gate.
-[Julia] Aw! They're not home!
I'm so disappointed that I can't go inside

[Shlomo] Who's hungry and slash thirsty?
-[Robert] I'm kinda ready for a drink.
-[Miriam] Ready for a drink.
[Robert] We're doing a flight.
It's a tasting.
[Batsheva] I wanna try your Paloma.
Yeah, same.
I'll catch that flight.
Shlomo, you're sharing germs.
Is that okay with you?
I don't mind sharing germs
with, like, family.
I mean, if you just think
what's been in Batsheva's mouth recently.
[laughing]
Only beautiful things.
[laughs]
-Big, beautiful things.
-[Roberto] Big, beautiful things!
[waitress] This is the Old Fashioned.
Stunning!
This is one Spicy Matador.
[Julia] That's me.
[Robert] Was it worth it, memory lane?
Yes! I've been wanting to do this forever.
[Robert] What did you get out of it?
Just reminds me how far I've come.
-[Robert] Awesome.
-And where I came from.
One of the things that
I try not to think of too frequently,
but sometimes I can't help myself
is what would all of our lives
have been like if we stayed in Austin?
When my parents came to Texas,
they became attracted
to Lubavitch Judaism,
which is a very, very religious,
ultra-Orthodox sect of Judaism.
Within three years of living in Texas,
I went from being a normal American kid
to being the only kid in my class
who covered herself from head to toe
and wouldn't go to any friends' house
because they didn't keep kosher.
And since there was not a fully religious
Jewish school in Texas,
they decided it was time to move
to a full-on religious Jewish community.
What would my life have been like
if we stayed a part of the outside world?
I would probably still be talking
to my parents.
It really gets me angry when I think
about those things. So I try not to.
Okay, guys. Now that we all have
our drinks, I want us to make a toast
to the next chapter and to Haart Sphere.
[all] To Haart Sphere!
-So Miriam is gonna be the CTO.
-Programmer.
The chief technology officer.
Robert is the COO.
How do you feel about being a CTO?
My original plan was to do school
for another year. You knew that.
-Yeah.
-And so
If that's what you wanna do,
then that's what you should do.
I know that and so it's really
a decision I have to make.
It is something I have to think about
because I did wanna continue studying
'cause I am young and I still have
so much more to learn.
Then there's this huge opportunity
that I don't want to pass up.
So it is something
that I've been thinking about.
I did not know that Miriam was
questioning being a CTO at all.
I had no idea. I thought
she was ecstatic about the idea.
I'm hearing this. I'm asking myself
if I'm doing the right thing.
I made an assumption.
If it's an incorrect one,
we should rectify it immediately
because if she wants to have fun, my God.
I'm so on board with that.
[cellphone rings]
Hold on one second, guys.
Hello?
Hey. Okay.
Tell me everything.
I had no idea you, like,
weren't fully on board.
Feels like I'm waking up a little bit.
A lot of adultness is coming.
I'm in my first super long-term
committed relationship.
And now I'm about to found a company.
I just feel like a really
like adult all of a sudden.
It's just hitting me
and I can't go back a bit.
Once you say yes, you can't undo it.
I know that this is a huge responsibility.
And that is scary.
-I'd be stupid to say that it wasn't.
-[Robert] Right.
Do you believe you could do it?
I do.
Then I think you should do it.
I don't think it's smart to throw out
this opportunity if I was you.
[Miriam] It's just a lot.
[relaxing music playing]
-Hey, girl.
-[Miriam] Hey.
-[Batsheva] You look so cute!
-[Miriam] Thanks!
I love it.
-Yeah, I'm wearing your outfit.
-I know.
Do you have lip gloss for me, by the way?
This one?
How are you feeling
after the conversation today?
I know that my mom
is giving me a huge, huge opportunity.
I know she wants the best for me,
but I'm gonna have to figure out
what I wanna do.
As your big sister, I also want you
to, like, experience things and enjoy them
and not be so hard on yourself. Like,
you have to always be bigger and better.
And that's why I love Nathalie for you
because I feel like
she chills you out a little bit.
That's one of the reasons I love her.
If you do decide
to go with being a CTO at 22, which is,
like, a crazy, incredible
-amazing thing
-Yeah.
I would be so proud of you, but you
wanna be able to enjoy all those moments.
Yeah.
-Very important.
-Yeah.
[Batsheva] Miriam is 22.
I think she's figuring out
where she stands in life
and what she wants and what her plan is.
And that may be totally different
in the future
because there's just a lot to learn.
This is a great opportunity working
with very successful entrepreneurs.
Yeah.
[upbeat music playing]
What do you think if I did
off the shoulder here?
And then like, what about something like
Mm, now you seem like
a Middle Eastern woman.
Oh, that's a good thing.
We could do some type of fold and push.
Do I look like a yenta? No?
What if we belted it like this?
What does that look like? Too much?
Different.
Different's not very helpful.
-[knocking on door]
-[Nathalie] Come in!
-[Julia] Hey, you look so pretty.
-Hello! Thank you.
I'm just choosing what
necklace I'm gonna be wearing.
[Julia] What are you wearing?
'Cause this one is more, like, glittery.
-Oh, it's blue!
-Yeah.
-So it matches my
-Perfect, yes.
-Can I ask you a question?
-Totally.
So you know the conversation
we had at lunch?
About Miriam being my CTO
versus going to school?
Yeah. Oh yeah, today.
I'm worried that she is becoming
the CTO to please me.
-That it's not what she actually wants.
-Yeah.
She's not gonna tell me.
-She doesn't wanna make me feel bad.
-Yeah.
That's not what I want for her.
I want her to do what she wants.
So has she spoken to you at all?
Like, do you know?
So I do think from the talks
that we've been having
that she would love to keep going
to school, but I also think that like
this whole metaverse thing, she loves it.
-Yeah.
-You know, she does love it.
Well, okay, so what if you don't mind,
if you feel, even an iota,
Miriam doesn't actually want to do this,
but she's pleasing me,
her mother, please tell me.
Because then I'll make up
an excuse for why she shouldn't do it.
Miriam and I, we are very similar
and we're both people pleasers, right?
She inherited that from me too.
So I just wanna make sure
that she's not people-pleasing here
and choosing to do this
because she thinks it's what I want.
-I feel right now I couldn't tell you
-What she's thinking
A hundred percent.
I don't think she knows
what she's thinking.
But if what she's telling me
she wants to do
and what she's telling you
she wants to do is different, let me know.
-Yeah.
-Okay?
-Okay.
-I want her happy.
-Okay, yeah.
-She deserves everything.
I mean, look what she's done.
I mean, she's just
-I know. She's the best.
-Literally.
I think so too.
-So keep me posted.
-I will keep you posted.
Thank you, mamacita.
[funky music playing]
[Robert] Look how good I look
in the Texas sun!
[Julia] You do look so Oh!
You look amazing. Look at you, sexy beast!
Sexy beast!
-[Robert] Okay, Austin. Here we go.
-Smells yummy!
-It does!
-Delicious!
[Robert] I may have overdressed.
[Julia] Oh my God. I'm so hungry,
and I'm so excited.
I'm gonna order for everybody.
-Robert, it's per pound. How many pounds?
-Get a pound of everything.
[Batsheva] How do we
so we eat on a plate?
[Miriam] Oh my God,
the potatoes are really good.
Can you pass me some beef brisket, please?
[Batsheva] The ribs are good.
Sausage is amazing.
[Miriam] We saw your childhood home today!
I was so happy that I recognized it.
How's it feel seeing it all again?
Really good.
-In what way?
-[Robert] Yeah, why good?
Because it's a happy memory for me
and now I could use some happy memories.
Does it make anything
you're going through feel
-less intense or smaller in any way?
-No.
No, you know what I was thinking?
I'm thinking that maybe in some weird way,
this is good for me.
Because I always say I'm a fighter.
But have I ever really been tested
by, like, someone who's evil,
who has no boundaries,
who will do whatever it takes?
Like, have I ever been tested
to this extreme?
And I realize that I haven't.
And the other thing I realized,
which is so embarrassing
but true, and I have to face it,
is that I'm a victim.
I-I made myself crazy,
bent myself into pretzels,
did everything he asked.
He yelled at me
and humiliated me and tried to diminish.
I still kept doing everything he wanted.
And, you know, reading Miriam's affidavit,
where she said how she saw me shrink
and change my voice
and be more subservient to him.
-Are you gonna cry?
-Yeah, I'm gonna cry.
[Julia] If you're gonna cry,
I'm gonna cry.
[Miriam] I felt that way for a long time.
I didn't even realize that living through
what I was living through
was not normal or that this is not a way
a man should behave.
[Julia sobbing]
[indistinct]
[Julia] I'm sorry
you had to go through that.
Yeah, I know. And that's what I realized.
Like, if this hadn't happened,
I would never have been forced
to look at myself in the face and say,
"Yes, you're strong
when it comes to business."
"But when it comes to someone
you care about, especially a man,
you are weak as fuck."
That's not weak, Ima.
That's not fair. That's
Like you say,
if someone's wearing a miniskirt
and they're victimized,
it's not their fault.
Never blame the victim.
The never blame the victim
applies to you too.
You're not a victim. You're a survivor.
You survived this and you're gonna thrive.
I literally got lawsuits
in three different courts
in two different states
going on at the same time.
When you're fighting for your survival,
that swallows the rest of your life.
Everything else is secondary.
You're literally fighting
for your survival.
And I need people on my side.
It's shitty that I have to experience it,
but if I come through this victorious,
then I will know
that I can live through it.
-Even if you're not totally victorious
-You're still very strong.
-[Robert] You still
-No, I am going to be victorious.
That is not a question.
Okay.
He's gonna be sorry for the day
that he fucked with you.
You have proven to be
an extraordinarily loyal son.
Shlomo stayed up with me
and he would just hang out
until he saw I was okay to be by myself.
-And you really, you showed up.
-Family first.
You showed up, and I don't forget that.
And I know now
that no matter what happens,
when the shit hits the fan, you show up.
Thank you.
To showing up!
To showing up!
-[Robert] To showing up!
-[Julia] To family!
[Miriam laughs]
To real loyalty!

He has a massive family.
They basically run Wichita Falls.
And guess what? He's driving us,
all of us, in an RV! [laughs]
[Robert] How I'm driving this,
I have no idea.
This is the last will and testament
of Robert Brotherton.
If I die while driving this thing,
I'd like all my earthly possessions
to be buried in my sarcophagus.
Love you. [kisses]
-[Shlomo] Are we there yet?
-[Julia laughs]
This is so cool, Robert.
I have never driven an RV like this.
I mean, to say that my driving record
is not clean is an understatement.

-[Miriam] Shit!
-[Shlomo] Shiitake mushrooms!
[Miriam] Okay, what? Whoa!
I am going to throw up on this trip.
[Robert] Well, I'm excited to see my fam.
Are you gonna meet your sib
your half-siblings?
Oh, you mean adop
the biological siblings? No.
[Julia] Have you spoken
to your birth mother since then?
I texted her on Christmas.
-That's nice.
-Yeah.
That's about it.
By the way, I am so, like,
crazy excited to see your family.
How is it with your mom and dad,
now that he's remarried?
Well, he's remarried.
She's seeing someone.
-Really? Do we get to meet the boyfriend?
-I don't think so.
Do I get to meet your dad?
I don't know. He doesn't live
in the same city, so I don't know.
Like, can your mom really adopt me
because my mom doesn't speak to me?
-Let's see if my mom
-Your mom adopted you.
Let's see if she speaks to me
after I show up with eight people.
[Robert] I think it's been at least
six months since I've seen my family.
I'm so happy I get to just wrap my hands
around Ross and my mom and everyone.
And just, you know, feel at home again
during this, like, very crazy time.
Here we are.
You are now entering Wichita Falls!
[Julia] Yay!
[Robert] There it is!
-[all] Yay!
-[Julia] Okay.
Two, four, six, eight

Robert, Robert! Go, Robert!
[Robert] We're here!
-What is up?

-There's a little doggy!
-[Ross] Oh jeez!
-[all] Hello!
-[Ross] For the love of
[Julia] You cannot even fathom
the level of my excitement
at meeting Robert's family.
Like, I've been hearing
about Mitizi's cooking
and his aunts and his nieces
and his nephews and his uncles for years.
-Oh, man.
-[Ross] I can't believe you guys are here.
[Julia] I'm so happy to be here!
And I get to see Ross again.
And I love Ross. He's so cute.
[Robert] This is the, uh,
Robert Brotherton appreciation room.
If you ever thought
I didn't have taste or style
-Oh, my word!
-[Robert] Kindly note.
-Are you wearing makeup?
-[Julia] Good pictures.
-For sure, I was.
-[Julia] Why do you have a toilet plunger?
-That was the thing.
-[laughing]
-[Ross] He was dancing.
-[Robert] I was dancing with plungers.
-[Ross] That was his twirler.
-You danced with a plunger.
What chance did I have to come out
as this like straight, normal boy
when I was placed in tap shoes,
dancing with a plunger? I ask you.
[Robert] Okay. So the first room
is gonna be
-The Miriam and Nathalie bedroom.
-[Miriam] Okay.
We do have some fun friends
for you to meet!
-Oh, this. Is there any
-Oh Lord! [laughs]
[Miriam] Um
[intriguing music playing]
-This is fun to wake up to.
-[Robert] This one is named Miriam.
That one is Nathalie.
-[Nathalie] Great!
-[Shlomo] Is that a real gun?
That is. I shot that one two years ago
and I shot that one three years ago.
[Robert] I'm most excited
to show the family
all about where I came from
and give them a real taste of Texas.
'Cause I'm sorry, Austin,
I love you but you are not real Texas.
This goes here.
-[Miriam] My gosh.
-[Mitizi] We're gonna do a buffet style.
-[Batsheva] Oh my Lord!
-Yes.
This is just what we need
after our four-hour-and-a-half drive.
[upbeat music playing]
Thank you.
[Robert] Those are called Mitizi potatoes.
[Shlomo] These are amazing.
Rob wanted this chicken dish. I'm like,
we're Texas. We're eating red meat.
-[Robert] There you go.
-[Miriam] That's good.
[Miriam] Oh my gosh.
What kind of pie is that?
[Mitizi] It's apple.
[Miriam] That's my favorite!
[Mitizi] Okay. Have you ever had
apple pie with cheese on it?
-[Miriam] No!
-[Mitizi] Okay.
[Robert] This is a Texan thing.
It's really, really good.
Who wants the first bite?
You two share this big piece.
-Thank you.
-Thank you.
I can't lie. I have obviously eaten
a piece of pie with cheese on it.
But I don't know what Mitizi is smoking,
offering everyone
a piece of American cheese on apple pie.
This is not something we typically do.
She's going, like,
Deep South for this moment.
[Batsheva] The pie is amazing.
I like the cheese.
[Robert] I appreciate it,
but also I'm shocked
these little kosher fabulous people
have not run for the hills.
In Texas, we're eating like Texans.
[funky music playing]
What are we listening to?
-Country music.
-I like the music!
[Julia] Gonna go two-stepping.
I wanna dance!
Dance! Dance! Dance!
[Miriam] Mom is already
on the dance floor!
I'm excited to dance. I love to dance.
It's my freedom moment, you know?
It's being It's free. It's freeing.
[cheery music playing]
Julia's super into it.
She is swishing her hips
from right to left,
north to south, east to west.
Batsheva's there, you know
I'm not sure if I'd call these moves.
She's definitely moving, but, um,
I don't know if she's constipated.
I'm literally deriving pleasure
from saying those words.
I went to a honky-tonk
and I honkied and I tonked.
I don't know if that's actually a thing,
but I danced the night away.
It was so fun! I wanna do it again.
[all] Cheers!
-[Shlomo] Hey, Rob.
-Roberto!
-[Robert] Hey, Queen!
-Nice belt.
-Thank you.
-I love your outfit. You look so good.
Okay, tell me more
embarrassing Robert stories.
I told 'em about when you wrecked your car
because a tree jumped in front of you.
-Oh Ross, shut up.
-[laughing]
-There was a tree.
-[Julia] That sounds very like Robert.
-[Ross] It's so
-[Julia and Shlomo laugh]
[upbeat music playing]
-[Julia] Here we go!
-[Batsheva] Cowboy Tack Shop.
[Julia] Whoa!
[Ross] Last and always least.
-Shut the fuck up.
-[Ross laughs]
[clerk] Hi, how are you?
[Miriam] This is so cool.
[Julia] I'm gonna walk around.
You never know
when you need a cowboy hat.
-Here's six and three-quarters.
-[Julia] Let's try that one.
[Robert] That's cute. That's really cute.
[Julia] I love it.
Yeah, we can put some chips and dip.
[both laugh]
-[Julia] Wow, you look great, Shlomo!
-Well, thank you, miss.
[Robert] She's got a big head, this one.
-The biggest.
-The biggest head. My God.
Oh! For sure! I love that!
[Shlomo] It'll match RR.
[Julia] Thank you so much!
That was so much fun.
-Thank you so much.
-[Miriam] Yeah! We got our hats!
[upbeat music playing]
-[Robert] I wish Ra'ed was here.
-[Ross] Yeah, me too.
What do y'all think of Ra'ed?
I like him.
[Robert] You're not sure.
-No.
-You're not sure.
Why are you not sure?
I dunno. I just want you all to myself.
-[Ross laughs]
-Mom! Weirdo.
I think one of the issues that my mom had,
she wants me to have a partner
who contributes to the household
from a financial perspective,
as well as an emotional perspective,
and, uh, that's important to her.
The fact that Ra'ed now has a job
We should see some things
changing for her, I think.
But let's see.
I told Mom about this,
but I don't know if I told you, Ross, yet.
-You know what's going on with work.
-[Ross] Yeah.
Or the lack thereof.
And so I went
and I spoke to an agent for Broadway.
They said that if I wanted to do it,
I would probably have to really commit.
I'm thinking about doing that.
What do ya'll think?
I mean, I like it. It's a perfect time
if you're financially comfortable.
And then Ra'ed now has a job.
So I'm hoping
-As long as he keeps the job.
-[Robert] As long as he keeps it.
And who knows? I might not get anything.
It might be too fake of a dream.
[Ross] But theoretically,
you don't get anything unless you did it.
You can never look back and say you
didn't do it. But it is a turning point.
I think thinking about doing Broadway
and Haart Sphere are like
It's difficult to know
if it's even possible to do both.
In my head, I wanna think,
"Of course, I can do both."
But I know, like,
how demanding a start-up is and
I don't know if it's possible for me
to also have this other career.
I don't know what's possible.
Ra'ed thinks I should definitely do
the Broadway thing.
[Ross] Yeah, I'm sure.
-He'd have to pay the bills and all that.
-[Robert] That's right.
Think about that.
[Robert] Now especially. Someone
other than me has to pay the bills.
That's right.
Richard needs the best in life.
[laughs]
[upbeat music playing]
-[Shlomo] Pretty good?
-[Robert] How are you?! How's it going?
Hi, I'm Julia! This is Mitizi's sister.
[Robert] This is my Aunt Angie!
You look spiffy, spiffy, spiffy!
-You look good! I like your belt buckle!
-[Robert] Thank you.
It's really a beautiful thing to see
my New York family meet my Texas family.
I mean, there are so many differences
between them.
But in a room
where there's food and drink and dancing,
everyone can find something in common.
Everyone can have a good time.
This is, like, you know,
when you have family, this is the vibe.
Like, our families have vibes
that are so different, you know?
I think it's really cool.
I think they called us to the trough.
Should we go eat?
-I'm hungry.
-And have a drink, yes.
We've been eating non-stop.
-[Julia] Yes.
-[Angie] I hear you have.
[Julia] It's been so much fun.
Thank you, babe. Oh, thank you. Perfect.
-[Robert] My God, the brisket's amazing.
-Brisket's so good.
Oh my God, it's the best brisket
I've ever had.
-Why's this the best brisket you've had?
-[Robert] It's very
-Every time you eat brisket, it's better.
-[Julia] I know, really.
That's Texas, baby.
-That's Texas.
-[Miriam giggles]
Texans make the best brisket.
I'm just gonna call it.
-This tops everything.
-It's hard to top a Jewish brisket.
But this is better than a Jewish brisket.
I'm looking forward to the New York Post
or New York Times article
on how you're dissing Jewish brisket.
[laughs]
-I'm still in the Jewish brisket basket.
-No, I'm sorry. This is better.
Jews are good at making brisket.
I mean, I've heard a lot about Texas.
So I was looking forward,
but, um, they got nothing on it.
So, sorry, Texas.
-This is better than Jewish brisket.
-Yeah.
What if it was Texan Jewish brisket?
-Girl! Girl!
-Girl!
That might be
on a whole other level of deliciousness.
[Robert humming]
[Robert laughs]
[indistinct chatter]
[Robert] That was beautiful.
We want you to know you're always welcome
at our family. All of y'all are.
You can call yourself
Julia Haart Brotherton if you want.
-I would love that.
-There you go.
I know you've struggled with
family accepting you and things like that.
-But absolutely y'all are welcome anytime.
-[Miriam] Thank you so much!
You made me feel so welcome and at home.
I think my biggest takeaway from this time
in Austin has been, you know,
reconnecting with my past.
I have seven sisters and brothers.
I literally raised
my sisters and brothers.
They were my kids.
My mother is one of the strongest,
most powerful people I know.
And I miss her.
I miss that closeness we had.
Now, during this really difficult time,
the worst month of my life,
to not have the people
that I love in my life, that hurts.
That really hurts.
Other than that.
-We're gonna turn on music and dance.
-Let's do it!
-Yeah.
-Yeah, boy!
Let's go!
Woo!
[country music playing]
[cheering]
-[Robert] To the sides.
-That was fun!
-[Batsheva] Nice to be with your family.
-Are you having fun?
-I'm having a really nice time.
-Isn't everyone so
-It's been like the highlight of the week.
-Really?
But I'm, like, sad
that I don't have someone.
-Really?
-It's not like I'm missing Ben.
-But I'm like missing having a person.
-That unit. Yeah.
And there's no part of like being
with family that replaces that.
-It's not the same.
-It's not the same as having a guy who
who listens to you in a different way.
Don't you feel, like, Ra'ed helped you
feel okay over the past, like, month?
Over the past month, I swear to God
I talk a lot of shit about Ra'ed
and it's my funny thing.
It's his funny thing, like we do that.
There is zero point zero way I could have
gone through
what we just went through.
Being able to go home
and not talk about it.
-Yep.
-Talk about something different.
Do something totally different.
If I couldn't have done that
That's why with my mom, I know she, like
I spoke to her about it.
She doesn't feel like
I was there for her enough.
And yeah, I checked out.
I'll totally admit to that.
But we always had a person whenever
there was a crisis
and I didn't have anyone.
It's not that I don't love her,
I don't support her,
I don't wanna feel, like, her pain.
But, like, I whatever I'm giving now
is, like, all that I have.
This is the most intense thing
any of us have ever gone through.
And, like, I feel like
the way out is forward.
Right.
And I'm happy you're here. And I love you.
-I love you too.
-If you ever need a boy to bitch to
-Thank you. I appreciate that.
-I will be your fatter version of Ben.
[laughs]
[closing theme music playing]
