Wishbone (1995) s02e07 Episode Script

Moonbone

What's the story, Wishbone?
What's this, you're dreaming
of such big imagination
on such a little part?
What's the story, Wishbone?
Do you think it's worth a look?
Kind of seems familiar,
like a story from a book.
Shake a leg now.
Wishbone, let's wag another time.
Slipping out adventure
with Wishbone on the drill.
Come on, Wishbone.
What's the story, Wishbone?
What's the story, Wishbone?
What's the story?
Wishbone?
What's the story?
Wishbone?
What's the story?
Wishbone?
What's the story wish for?
You know, Emily, the best time to
pot patunias is under a full moon.
It's pretty, too.
Yeah.
Sometimes a full moon makes
people do the strange.
things.
What's that?
Hello, ladies.
Ooh, digging.
That looks like fun.
You think that I can
Digging?
Digging?
Bury!
Got a berry.
Got a berry.
Got a berry.
Got a berry.
Got a berry.
Burry.
Berry, berry, berry,
berry, berry, berry, berry.
Barry, Barry.
Emily.
Hi, Emily.
Hello, Miss Gilmore.
Hi, Miss Gilmore.
I brought the pictures of your garden.
Bury, berry, berry, berry,
berry, berry, berry, berry,
berry, berry, berry, very,
berry, very, very, very, very.
Sam, these are wonderful.
Be more stuff to Barry.
You certainly do have an artistic eye.
Barry Flamingo.
Uncle Travis thinks so, too.
He wants Sam to take pictures
of the sports exhibit today.
And Daryl Johnson of the
Dallas Cowboys is going to.
to be there.
Oh, be sure to let me see
the photos when you're done.
I might be able to use them
for the Oakdale Chronicle.
That's great, Miss Gilmore.
Wishbone!
We better be going.
Bye.
Bye.
Come, boy.
Wishbone!
We're coming, Joe.
How did I get so dirty?
Wishbone?
Why am I so tired?
What's gotten into you, boy?
Are you ready to go to Mr. Del Rios, Joe?
To meet Daryl Johnston, you bet.
Yeah, the moose himself.
Moose?
Your uncle has a moose in his store.
Joe, did you take my
checkbook for some reason?
No, Mom.
I can't find my checkbook, I
can't find my eyeglass case.
I can't find anything.
Do you need any help?
No, that's all right. You go ahead.
Almost as if someone stole them.
Hmm, some of Ellen's
things have disappeared.
Ah, a real who done it.
You know, a mystery.
And I love a good mystery.
And so did Wilkie Collins.
He wrote the very first
detective novel in 1868.
It told the story of an extraordinary
diamond called the Moonstone.
Collins created a legend
about a mystical diamond of
India that was as yellow
and brilliant as the moon.
In the novel, the Moonstone
was sacred to the Hindu
Brahmins because it
represented the Moon's power.
The Brahmins were the Hindu priests
in charge of guarding the diamond.
Collins began his story
when British Colonel John
Herncastle stole the
Moonstone during a skirmish.
The Brahmans never gave up their
search for the stolen treasure.
Come on in to dinner, Rosanna.
You know Lady Verinder doesn't like
her servant girls missing their meals?
Why must I always retrieve
you from this miserable spot?
I think this place is light a
spell on me, Mr. Bitteridge.
Do you believe in love at first sight?
Why do you ask?
A man that just arrived.
Mr. Franklin Blake.
I believe he's the most
handsome man I've ever seen.
Don't be silly, child.
He's in love with Miss Rachel.
Besides, you are a servant.
A man like Mr. Blake is
above your station in life.
I must find a safe place
for this blasted thing.
Vetteridge! I need you. I need your help.
Yes, Mr. Blake.
I need you to keep something safe for me.
What, sir?
Open the box.
Is this?
It's the priceless moonstone, yes.
How did you come to be in charge
of the wicked Colonel's diamond?
Colonel Hurne Castle left it to Rachel.
My duty as executor of his will requires
that I deliver it to her on her birthday.
Some say there's a curse on it.
They're very well may be.
I suspect.
that I have been followed
and watched in London
for the last three or four days,
ever since the diamond
came into my possession.
I fear the Hindu Brahman will stop
at nothing to recover the moonstone.
Did they follow you to Yorkshire?
I'm not sure, but now you understand
why I'm worried about Rachel's safety.
I've barely slept these past few days.
I will put the diamond in
the safe until the party.
Thank you, Betridge.
Now, let me find my dear Rachel.
All that's missing is a bird
over there in the corner.
It's perfect.
Are you feeling more relaxed, Franklin?
Yes, my dear. Much better
now that I'm with you.
You're an angel to travel
so far for my birthday.
It's the best present
you could have given me.
But you look tired, Franklin.
And we have the party tonight.
I'd lose a thousand night
sleep for you, Rachel.
How are you feeling, sir?
Just tired, Metteridge.
I'll be all right.
Franklin, old boy.
I hear you haven't been sleeping well.
You must let me prescribe
some medication immediately.
Medication?
I don't need your mumbo-jumbo,
Dr. Candy. I'm perfectly fine.
Mumbo-jumbo, eh?
Well, we'll see.
Oh.
Franklin, old man, can I have a word?
What? Yes. What?
Uh, what is it, Geoffrey?
Well, you see, Franklin.
I'm in a bit of a financial bind.
Could I possibly trouble you for
Godfrey, you know, I never
discuss business at the table.
You're staying over tonight.
I'll talk to you in the morning.
Oh.
Oh.
Beautiful.
Rachel, my love, happy birthday.
Franklin has a gift from
your late Uncle John.
Rachel, my dear, the colonel
wanted you to have this.
Many happy returns.
Thank you.
It's me.
Hmm, new poster smell.
Okay, let's see the moose.
Hey, you guys, come meet Daryl.
Daryl.
This is Joe Talbot and Samantha Kepler.
Kids meet the moose.
Hi.
Nice to meet you.
Hi.
This is Wishbone.
Hi, Wishbone.
That's funny.
You don't look like a moose.
Is all this your stuff?
No.
Actually, it belongs to NFL athletes.
I'm taking it to different cities
around the country to promote reading.
Wow.
Look at that ring.
Actually, that part of the
exhibit does belong to me.
Your Super Bowl ring.
I'd be afraid to take that off my finger.
That's okay. I've got two more.
Hey, Melina, uh, would you mind
keeping an eye on things for a second?
I need to get something from upstairs.
Okay, Uncle Travis.
Mr. Johnston.
I can't take it out of the
case to get a better shot?
Sure. Just close it when you're done.
No problem.
You'll get a book this week.
You bet.
Thanks.
Barry, Barry, Barry, Barry.
Barry, Barry, Barry, Barry.
Barry, Barry, Barry, Barry.
Wishbone.
What are you doing?
Barry, Barry, Barry,
Barry, Barry, Barry, Barry.
Sam took our picture with him.
He's actually a friend of Mr. Del Rios.
Miss Barry, Miss Barry.
Squeaky book!
Oh, Squeaky book!
Barry, squeaky book.
Hello?
Oh, hi!
No one will find.
Oh, no.
It's Travis.
Daryl Johnston's Super Bowl ring
is missing from the exhibit.
He wants to talk with you, Sam.
Hello?
Oh, tell him I said hi.
No, Mr. Del Rio, I didn't.
I'm so sorry I'm Mr. Del Rio.
Okay, bye.
I guess I was the last
person to see the ring.
Can you retrace your
steps and try to remember
I remember exactly what you did?
I took the picture of
the ring in the box,
and then
I pulled you over, remember, to
take our picture with Darrell.
Yeah, but I just can't remember
if I put the ring back in the box.
What if we developed the
photos of the exhibit?
Maybe looking at the pictures might
give us a different perspective.
A missing jewel
disappeared into thin air,
just like the Moonstone Stone.
Mr. Blake! Mr. Blake!
Mr. Blake!
The Moonstone!
It's gone!
After an unsuccessful
search for the diamond,
Franklin realized he needed help.
Sergeant Cuff, Scotland Yard
at your service, Lady Verenter.
Thank you for coming, Sergeant.
You, you have brought in the police.
Where was the diamond last scene?
Hmm.
Nothing's been touched.
Oh, what lovely roses!
Monday, I'll retire
from catching thieves.
Try my hand at growing roses.
When was this door painted?
I painted it yesterday.
So it wouldn't have been dry
until about three in the month.
I see what you're getting at.
Someone could have smudged it
while stealing the diamond.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Mr. Blake is correct.
This smudge was definitely
caused by a piece of
clothing, I dare say,
by someone in this room.
What? That's preposterous.
Then no doubt you wouldn't mind
having your wardrobe searched.
Your accusations are unbelievable,
but I have nothing to hide.
And you, sir?
Certainly.
I know for a fact that Godfrey
did not take the diamond.
You know this for a fact.
Do you, Mr. Blake, will you allow
your wardrobe to be searched?
Yes, I will do anything
to solve this mystery?
And you, Miss Verinder? Will
you give your permission?
No, I will not.
Miss Ferender, you refuse to
have your wardrobe searched,
even though by refusing you hinder
the recovery of the Moonstone?
Yes.
I beg your
you to excuse me?
Rachel, please, what's the matter?
You dare to ask me, what's the matter?
Was it something I said?
Your daughter does not seem too
interested in recovering her diamond.
I wonder if you might fetch
me a bit of lemon for my tea?
Lady Verinder, has that girl
been in your employment long?
Why do you ask?
Last time I saw her, she
was in prison for theft.
You don't suspect Rosanna, I hope.
I don't suspect any person.
At the present time.
Mr. Better, is this the
English white musk rose?
There's something
there's something strange
here in the background,
but I need to enlarge it.
Darkroom.
Dig.
Dig.
Dig.
Barry!
Bury! Gary! Wishbone?
What? What? Huh?
Wishbone? You stole it?
No! No! No, I didn't steal anything!
Did I?
Where'd all these holes come from? I?
Who's been digging here?
It could be anywhere.
Mr. Del Rio's never gonna forgive me.
Why would Wishbone take it in the place?
First place.
Every now and then, he
goes on a digging craze.
I do?
Berries everything in sight.
Must be the full moon.
Yeah, right.
I didn't have anything to do with it?
I mean, come on.
I mean, do I look like the kind of a
dog who would bury everything in sight?
This is just how Franklin Blake felt
when he got his own shocking surprise.
Franklin had no idea who could have
been behind the Moonstone's theft
until he received a letter and a map.
What can it mean, Betritch?
Down here!
I've got something!
I've got something!
My night girl? What in the
world is it doing here?
Mr. Blake, look. It has a painstay.
Oh, no.
Betridge, the letter. It makes sense now.
I have a confession to make, sir.
I love you.
Even though your heart is
devoted to Miss Rachel.
But if you follow this map,
you will see what I've done.
I've done for the love of you, Mr. Blake.
Now there's nothing to
tie you to the crime.
I hope I've done right.
And that you'll think of me, kindly.
Poor Rosanna.
And that's why Rachel won't speak to me.
She too must think I've
stolen the diamond.
Bertridge, I I have no memory of it.
Hmm.
His pulse is quite high.
His head quite high.
quite a shock.
Can it be that he stole the Moonstone
but has no recollection of it?
Franklin, the night of Rachel's party,
do you remember if you slept well?
Yes. Now that I think of it, I did.
I have a confession to make.
We argued that night. Do you remember?
I said you needed medication to sleep.
Well,
To prove my point, I
I slipped a bit of sleeping
potion into your drink.
Sleeping potion?
It was a dreadful joke.
But a side effect of the potion
sometimes is sleepwalking.
Were you concerned about the
diamond when you went to bed?
Absolutely.
I felt it wasn't safe in
Rachel's jewelry chest.
But what is to be done about it now?
Well
If you'll agree to try a bold
experiment, I feel we may
not only clear you, but
recover the diamond as well.
Are you willing to put yourself in the
state you were in the night of the theft?
To find the diamond and
clear my name? Absolutely.
It would seem, Miss Ferrander,
that Dr. Candy believes he
can sort this whole thing out.
I feel we should recreate Mr. Blake's
mental state and surroundings,
as they were the night of the party.
If we give him the potion again,
he might do exactly what he did
the night the Moonstone was stolen.
Betridge. May I?
Now I?
How are you feeling, dear boy?
Horrible.
Excellent.
Now, try to place your mind in the same
state it was the night of the theft.
Now, we just have to wait.
Moonstone, not safe.
Rachel's birthday.
Brahmin
I must put down in a safe.
Please.
Protect Rachel.
Take Diamond out of
Rachel from the cabinet.
Must protect Rachel from Brahmin.
Oh, Franklin, he was
sleepwalking that night.
I saw him take the diamond.
I decided if he needed it
that badly, he could have it.
But he could no longer have my love.
Franklin, I'm so sorry
I ever doubted you.
That's all well and good.
And good.
But we still have a missing diamond.
This time, I'd like to
propose an experiment.
Wishbone an experiment.
Wishbone. This is every hole in our yard.
Where is it, boy?
My food bowl!
I'm out of control.
There's no telling what I'll bury neck.
Joe, quick! Lock me
up before I dig again!
I was thinking
Maybe if we gave him another ring box,
his instincts would lead
him to the right hole.
Nothing else has worked. Let's try.
Oh, must resist, urge to very
Barry, Barry, very, got a
berry, Barry, Barry, something.
Sam?
What's he doing?
Uh, it's okay, Miss Gold War.
Oh!
Very, Mary, Mary!
Oh, good boy, Wishbone.
Huh? What? Oh, you found it?
Oh, great, open it.
What do we do now?
We have to tell Mr. Del Rio.
Oh, I feel so awful.
Can you come with me?
Oh, Wishbone.
I feel so guilty and dirty.
I've got to find that ring for Sam.
Wishbone.
Wishbone.
Sorry, Emily, Emily, can't talk.
Looking for a moose ring.
Play Pirates with you, Wishbone.
Emily, I really wishbone.
I really don't have
Oh, is that a ginger snap?
Mmm.
Oh, oh, mm.
Good stuff.
Oh, yeah.
Hey, what else is in here?
I smell something familiar.
Wishbone.
You can't eat berry treasure.
See?
Emily, you have the ring.
Oh!
Oh!
Any luck, guys?
We found the box, but not the ring.
Mr. Del Rio, I feel terrible.
It's all my fault.
So Emily must have seen me bury the ring,
and then she dug it up after I left.
What'll I tell the guys?
Hey, Travis.
Hey, what's this, Wishbone?
Hey, I want to tell you something.
Listen, Emily must have seen me bury the
ring, and then she dug it up after I left.
Oh, Wishman, you found the ring.
Where was it, boy?
Ah, let's just say a pirate swiped it.
I'm not letting this out of my sight.
I wonder how he found it.
Good old-fashioned police work, Travis.
Good old-fashioned police work.
I've managed to find
out that the diamond is
being kept in this bank
and will be claimed today.
I warrant not only will the Brahmans be
here, but they'll reveal the thief to us.
Miss Verrida, Mr. Blake, look.
Godfrey? How could he?
He was there the night of Rachel's party.
He obviously heard you, Mr. Blake,
when you stirred from your bed.
He then followed you, watched you take
the diamond from Rachel's cabinet,
then he took the diamond
from you while you slept.
It must have been too much temptation.
Why, you yourself said, he told
you he was in terrible debt.
Sergeant Cuff's deduction proved true.
Godfrey did steal the diamond.
However, the Brahmins
quickly took it from him.
Franklin Blake never
went after the Brahmins,
for he knew the moonstone
rightfully belonged to them.
It was restored to its proper
place, and the curse was lifted.
No more obsessive behavior
for the little dog.
Uh-uh, no, sir.
Tennis ball!
Tennis ball!
Tennis ball!
You know,
Thank you.
