Scream (2015) s02e08 Episode Script

Village of the Damned

1 - Previously on "Scream".
- I brought Piper to Lakewood.
Now, I'm paying for my mistakes.
Promise me you won't tell Emma? Your son he's the one who seems to enjoy drawing her covered in blood.
Why did you go to him without talking to me first? It was for your own good, Em.
Then why do I feel so betrayed? I really need you to give me some space, or I don't know what I'm gonna do.
You're in dire need of some fun.
Like, dinner.
EMMA: Brooke, don't go down the Branson spiral.
Screw that! Take no prisoners and kick ass as needed.
Or say good-bye to "little Branson.
" - (GASPS) - JK.
(MUFFLED SCREAMING) MAN: One of the teachers fell.
It's awful.
- How did you find this place? - I make up other lives, which involves sneaking into other people's houses.
(FIRE ALARM BEEPING) - Whoa! - Oh, my God! This way! Come on! (WHEEZING) Happy Centennial birthday, Lakewood.
It's that time again time for Lakewood's annual carnival.
What could be more twisted? Look, there's no denying Lakewood is opening the beaches with a man-eating shark in the waters, but it's what the people want.
We've done it since we were kids.
When it comes to Murderville, traditions die hard.
So, start the cotton candy spinning, set the Tilt-A-Whirl at full tilt.
The show must go on.
The Lady of the Lake must be crowned.
Who can fault Lakewood for needing a little folksy distraction from its harsh, blood-stained reality? Scream - S02E08 Village of the Damned "No one will ever forgive you"? Written in blood on my mirror.
And "12 dead"? Tyler, Nina, Rachel, Riley, Will The guard at Branson's cell, Grayson, Sheriff Hudson, Jake, Eddie, and Piper.
But that's still one short of 12.
He's trying to get into your head.
Trying? Noah, he's in there.
You gotta take your power back! You know? As long as you have this secret, the killer owns you.
You're right, okay? You're right! I'm trapped! But, if Emma finds out what I did, I might as well as be dead.
Tell Emma the truth and you'll be free.
Hey, can I talk to you? - Sure.
- Uh, in private? Is anyone else having a hard time focusing on physics right now? Do you think Ms.
Lang really just fell? Or was she pushed? (CHUCKLES) Doesn't fit the killer's profile.
Leaving the teacher at the bottom of the stairs where she landed This guy's too talented for that.
There's no staging, no big reveal, like Actually, no need to speculate.
You were there.
Right, Audrey? - (PA SYSTEM DINGS) - Hello, students.
This is Mayor Maddox.
Many of your parents have called with concerns about the impending Lakewood Days Carnival.
Your safety is our primary concern, but what we will not do - (SCHOOL BELL RINGS) - is miss this town's 100th birthday.
We have too much pride and a rich history of overcoming adversity.
Or being killed.
Hey, when he's right, he's right.
So, join me in this celebration of courage and life, not fear.
- See you at the fairgrounds.
- Eager to move on, a wounded and misguided town concocts a flimsy excuse to celebrate, which, in turn, instigates yet another round of bloodshed.
I mean, hasn't anybody seen My Bloody Valentine or The Prowler? Uh, I have not seen The Prowler.
Doesn't end well.
For anybody.
This whole "hundred years of perfect Lakewood" is some real BS.
BROOKE: Is it? Why don't we give positivity a try, hm? That sounds like a campaign slogan.
Yeah, well, it beats the crappy alternative.
(SIGHING) I have to do a speech tonight, so everybody get in the mood and come.
You know you have plenty of reasons to bow out.
I would, but my dad is in high gear politically.
He had a fire at one of his real estate properties last night, so he needs me to Join him in this celebration of courage and life? He needs me to smile and wave.
Don't make me go through this fiasco alone.
Thank you.
This is everything from Lang's desk, and it's all been processed.
- That's a nasty fall.
- Probably not an accident.
Her office was ransacked.
Somebody was looking for something.
Photos, interview notes, psych evaluations What the hell was this woman up to? (KNOCKING) Sheriff, the arson squad is heading out to Wren Lake Estates.
On my way.
We found the presence of a large amount of accelerant.
This fire was deliberate.
But this here is the kicker.
Oh, my God.
DEPUTY ON RADIO: Sheriff, there's someone out here you need to see.
On my way out.
ELI: I can't believe we're even here.
The sheriff said that he was on our side, and I'm gonna choose to believe him.
- Are you gonna come? - No, I'm good here.
Okay.
Emma.
My deputy tells me you might be able to help us figure out what happened here.
Yeah.
I'm not keeping secrets anymore.
So, I just spoke to Eli.
Interesting kid.
How long have you two known each other? Uh, not long.
He just moved here.
We, uh He's Kieran's cousin, actually.
So, you two were looking around, exploring.
I mean, I get it.
It's a It's a strange place, that development.
Just sitting there, empty.
Did you check out the whole place? No, we basically just stayed in the living room.
Did, uh, Eli go out, maybe go back to his car? No.
We were together the whole time.
Why? Well, we believe the fire was set intentionally.
We didn't start that fire.
(SIGHS) Look, Emma (SIGHS) your friend Eli he's been in trouble before.
- I know that.
- There's a young woman in Atlanta, about your age, who has a restraining order out against him.
Apparently, he likes to go places he shouldn't.
This time, her bedroom.
Um He (SCOFFS) There must be a mistake.
If I were you, I'd be careful who I hang out with, especially these days.
I wouldn't follow a boy I barely knew to an isolated location.
Now, I might be out of place here but Kieran Wilcox wasn't ratting on you.
He was trying to help you out.
I know.
My mom is waiting for me.
Are we done? Yeah.
I'm proud of you.
You did the right thing.
- Thanks.
- Can we talk? - (CLEARS THROAT) - You okay? Yeah.
Yeah, I'm fine.
I need you out there, looking after Emma Duval - until we know more.
- Yes, sir.
Hey.
So, you were right.
On a scale of one to terrible, the cops are actually pretty decent here.
Yeah, not too bad.
So, uh, what What happened in there? What'd you tell him? The truth.
Yeah, but, like, we're okay? We're okay to go, no big deal? Yeah, we can go, but it was a big deal.
You want to get lunch? My treat.
You know, to make up for all of this.
Uh, I have to go home.
- So, what do you want from me? - I need you back on this case.
I need you to identify those bodies.
I'm guessing they're victims in the same murder spree that started with Jake.
Now, this is that picture of Emma at the pig farm.
You know where I'm going with this and I need answers.
For both of our children, for all these kids, help me find this monster.
Remember the three P's: poise, polish, and pizzazz.
Your speeches for today's pageant should be succinct and expletive-free.
This isn't about winning.
Well, it is about winning, but winning money for your charity.
(SIGHS) What's wrong? I thought I could pull it off.
I thought it was my dream dress.
(EXHALES) I think you thought wrong.
I can't wear that onstage in front an actual crowd with an actual boy that I actually like.
- Too scary.
- The only thing scary here is this dress.
Miss Maddox? Let's focus.
Please.
As I was saying, the Lady of the Lake's true reward is the gratification she feels while hosting the quarterly pancake breakfast, or while spearheading the monthly Lakewood Litter-Removal Initiative.
Wait.
The winner of this competition has to pick up trash? - (SCOFFS) - (CHUCKLES) I don't want to win this thing.
Wait.
Let's make sure you win this thing.
Okay, Stavo, what have you been telling Ms.
Lang? LANG: That's why you kept the bodies? STAVO: It's a matter of perspective.
Michelangelo needed subjects, so he robbed graves.
Art history remembers him as a god.
But how is what he did any more grotesque than someone like Ed Gein? LANG: Edward Gein wasn't just a grave robber.
He was a serial killer.
STAVO: Like I said.
Perspective.
- What the hell are you doing? - Where is it? - Where's what? - You know damn well what.
- This is my room! You have no right to be in here! - I'm your father! I'm responsible for you and the lives of every citizen in this town.
So, I need to know, where is the mask? - What mask? - Stavo we came here for a fresh start, to put Phoenix behind us.
I told you, it was an accident.
That's not what I'm talking about.
It's what you did after the gun went off that troubles me.
He was my friend! I needed to remember how it felt.
It was important to me.
It's always about your art.
You really think I carve people up and hang them up like pieces of meat? That's who you think I am? If you think I'm a killer prove it.
(SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC PLAYING) Hey.
I'm glad that you came.
I was waiting for you to call.
I was mad and confused.
Well, I told you why I went to the sheriff.
I was worried.
That hasn't changed.
I know.
But I have.
I just came from the sheriff and you were right.
I can't keep things from him or from you.
I'm really sorry.
You don't have to apologize.
I just want you to be safe.
I know that and it means so much.
We're here to help each other, right? Right.
I think I understand why you're so protective of me.
I found out what happened to your step-dad.
What? From who? - Eli told me.
- What? What did he say? Just that you fought with your parents on the day that they died.
- That must've been so horrible, to lose them like that.
- He told you that? Yeah, and I understand why you never told me, but it explains so much.
- What else did he say to you? - Just that.
(SIGHS) Hey, Kieran It's not you.
It's Eli.
I don't want you hanging out with him, okay? He's family, but he's not right.
Hey, hey.
I know, I know.
This is - I just want us to get back to normal.
- So do I, but with Eli This is about us, not about him.
(PHONE DINGS, VIBRATES) (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC PLAYING) (RINGTONE PLAYING) - What do you want? - DISTORTED VOICE: I want to see what happens when she finds out the truth.
- Please don't.
- You're not a victim, Audrey.
You're a killer.
Remember that.
Call the cops? You're done.
Confess to Emma? It's over.
What's left? Just me.
Screw you! (LINE RINGING) - Hello? - Hey, Emma, do you want to go to the carnival with me? - Carnival of cops.
- Yeah, it's weird.
The weirdest.
And yet, also the safest place in Lakewood.
Yeah.
I'm glad that you decided to come.
I know you weren't all "rah-rah Lakewood Days.
" - Why did you change your mind? - I just wanted to hang out with you.
We haven't done anything, just the two of us, in a really long time.
Yeah, and we've always done the carnival together, ever since we were little.
Yeah.
Well, you know, except for last year.
Let's just pretend last year never happened.
I'm just really glad that we got over that little breakup.
Yeah, me too.
What's up? Nothing.
Okay, so what do you want to do first? Tilt-A-Whirl? Funhouse? Mm, Funhouse, not so fun.
I have a better idea.
- (CHUCKLES) - I'm so good, it scares me.
(CHUCKLES) - Can I see? - Yeah, yeah.
Okay, turn around.
(GASPS, CHUCKLES) Hello, gorgeous.
I think I think I want to do a twirl.
(CHUCKLES) I'm not gonna do a twirl, if that's what you're asking.
Okay.
(CLEARS THROAT) Uh, fun fact.
Did you know that public speaking is the number one fear in America? You? Seriously? Yeah, petrified.
And Noah's gonna be there.
So, I may have brought a little something to take the edge off.
- Zoe! - You can't tell.
(GASPS) Valedictorian and secret self-medicator.
I'm into it.
There are not enough happy face emojis in the world to express how much I needed that.
This little make-over has momentarily lifted me out of my grief spiral, but this whole pageant trying to act like everything's normal just feels Like the most abnormal thing in the world? - Yeah, I know.
- It's harder than I imagined.
- To twirling even when it sucks.
- Cheers to that.
WOMAN: I've been flying through the clouds alone Looking for somebody to hold You're here Wow, this just got a little more exciting.
I keep on falling Noah, what are you doing here? I'm here to, uh, support my favorite Lady of the Lake.
And I figured she needed a well-dressed, color-coordinated date, um, as did Brooke.
So, bow tie by Miss Maddox, but everything else when we're done with the world - Yeah, so - (GIGGLES) Thank you.
Catch you later.
If you meant forever Then look at me now Look at me and say Whoo! Brooke did not have any din-din.
(SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC PLAYING) - Hey.
- Hey! How'd you get back here? Thought you could use some company.
I know I could.
They're being green room Nazis back here.
They're not letting anyone back unless they're in the pageant.
So, let's go.
Let's get out of here.
- As in, leave? - Why not? Get your stuff.
Your dad will be fine.
He'll survive.
- You think I'm doing this for my dad? - That's what you said, right? He thinks he can control you, but he doesn't even know you.
I'm doing this because I want to.
Honestly? Because this is the stupidest, most insane thing ever.
Having a carnival after everything that's happened in this town? Brooke! Tell me I'm wrong.
Stavo, I'm gonna do the pageant.
Okay? I have my reasons.
If all you're gonna do is judge me for it, then why don't you just leave? If that's what you want.
(SIGHS) (GIGGLING) That was so good! Hey, Emma.
Can we talk? Uh what? I, uh, just wanted to know what the sheriff said that made you so upset.
- Okay, after that fire - You don't think I started the fire, though, do you? - Wait, what fire? - No, I don't think you started the fire.
But the sheriff told me what happened in Atlanta and that made me realize that I don't know you at all.
Look, I have made mistakes, yes, but I'm not a bad guy, okay? Can I get a chance to explain, please? Now's not the right time.
Emma, wait.
I would never do anything to hurt you, okay? - Get off her! - Back off, dude.
This is not your business.
I'm making it my business.
Let's not do this right now.
Okay? Please? Stay away from her.
Stop telling stories.
Don't worry, Kieran.
It's not like I told her the worst part.
(CROWD GASPING) Kieran! Kieran! Kieran! Stop it! What are you doing? You see, Emma? I'm not the one you should be afraid of.
WOMAN ON MIC: Check, one, two.
Check, check.
One, two.
- (CHUCKLES) - You have some cotton candy on your face.
Oh, I do? Really? Where? Where is that? - Got it.
- You sure? I think, actually, there was some more.
Oh, wow! Look! I love these! Come on! I need photographic proof of that bow tie! - Okay.
- MAN: Chase the things that will let your mind Flow freely in and out of time This feeling we're chasing Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, I like it This feeling we're chasing Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, I like it (MUTTERING) - Wow! - I'm sorry.
This isn't the right place.
No, no.
Well, somewhere with a door would be optimal.
- I don't know what I was thinking.
- I like what you were thinking.
We should keep that brainstorm going.
WOMAN ON MIC: Ladies and gentlemen, the Lady of the Lake Pageant will begin shortly.
Please join us at the stage.
What? Ms.
Buckley isn't a turn-on? (LINE RINGING) Still not answering? No.
I don't know.
What do I do? I've never seen Kieran like that before.
It was pretty brutal.
Seriously.
And Eli's, like, half Kieran's size.
I know, okay? But he and Eli have issues.
Also, Eli's not an angel.
He's the one who started that fight.
Okay, I'm not supposed to tell anybody this, but the sheriff told me that Eli has a restraining order against him.
Apparently, he broke into some girl's bedroom in Atlanta.
That's completely insane.
Okay, look, uh there's something I really need to tell you, but, uh we should definitely get someplace more private first.
- Okay.
- Let's go.
Look, I didn't want to freak you out earlier, but, last night, someone snuck into my room while I was sleeping.
- Wait, what? - I woke up this morning, and there were creepy messages written on my mirror and my ceiling.
Oh, my God.
What did they say? Dumb, creepy message stuff, like "I'm watching you.
" It doesn't matter.
Now all this stuff about Eli Do you think he could be doing this? Could he be doing all of this? I I mean, someone snuck into my house to send those emails to my dad.
And now that we know this is the sort of thing Eli does, you have to wonder if he could be the one who keeps sneaking into our rooms.
Oh, my God.
So, in the end, I guess you could say that small towns are a great place to launch big futures.
And that is why I love Lakewood.
Thank you.
Yeah! BUCKLEY: And that was Zoe Vaughn.
Thank you, Zoe! Oh, my God! That was such a kick! Oh, I'm so glad.
I knew you could do it.
Mm.
Oh, no.
I look like roadkill.
You look fine.
Let me just fix this.
- Empty.
- Please give a warm welcome for Brooke Maddox.
- (CHEERS AND APPLAUSE) - Mm, that's me! Are you sure you're okay to go out there? - Totally! - You're sure? Zo, I have things that I need to say.
If I don't say them now, I'll never say them.
Whoo! I, um I had a speech prepared that I, uh I worked on with my dad.
Hi, Daddy! But, uh I think I'm just gonna wing it.
Look at us having a carnival - making speeches - Is she drunk? - Either that, or she's recently suffered a blow to the head.
- She's drunk.
I just wanted to get real for a second.
Some of you probably know I was supposed to be here tonight with my boyfriend, Jake Fitzgerald.
But I guess we all know what happened with that, right? I I miss him so much.
But I mean, Jake had a great sense of humor.
This all just feels so appropriate, 'cause this carnival's a joke! Congratulations, Lakewood.
Happy one hundred years of lying to yourself! Lakewood is cursed.
People die in this town.
All the time.
And we act like nothing happened.
I almost died.
- And thank you very much - No! I'm not done.
And you know what I saw? Nothing! No white light.
Just big, black, empty nothing.
And that's where Jake is right now! Instead of up here, with me, where he belonged.
Unless we wake up and stop acting like this isn't Murderville, we're all gonna end up like Jake.
And we'll deserve it.
But he didn't.
(MICROPHONE FEEDBACK) - BUCKLEY: Let's hear it for - We should go get her.
Yeah, let's go.
Here's a preliminary report on the burn victims.
Both adult males, 20 to 30 years old.
Given the relative states of decomposition, I'd say the first victim died hours, maybe days before the fire.
Cause of death: stab wound to the neck.
And the other one? We got a positive ID on him.
Seth Branson.
His prints were in the system.
I got a match off his left index finger, which was fortunate because his right hand was severed at the wrist.
Anything else? No, that's it.
I'll keep you posted.
- (DOOR CLOSES) - (SIGHS) (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC PLAYING) What did I just do? - I don't know, but it was kind of awesome.
- Kind of? You just read the entire town the riot act for having a beauty pageant instead of a funeral.
Nicely done, Brooke Maddox.
Oh, my God, Brooke.
Drink this.
How did you get so drunk? I gave her a shot and I didn't really Hey, I got myself drunk.
Thank you.
Brooke! Honey, what were you thinking? What can I say, Dad? It was the truth.
Jake would have liked that speech.
Oh, honey Honey Come on.
Let's get you home.
(PHONE VIBRATES) Wait, you brought alcohol? It was for my nerves.
You've had nothing to be nervous about.
That speech was amazing.
Okay, so we'll (CARNIVAL MUSIC PLAYING) MAN ON PA SYSTEM: The park will be closing in 30 minutes.
Please find the closest exit.
- (PHONE RINGING) - Thank you for coming to the Lakewood Days Carnival.
- See you tomorrow! - Hey! Uh, where are you? DISTORTED VOICE: I liked your friend's speech.
A real knife to the gut.
Where's Kieran? Where - Where's Kieran? What did you do to him? - He loves you, Emma.
That's enough to get him hurt, isn't it? - Take a look at your phone.
- (PHONE DINGS) (MUFFLED SCREAMING) Kieran? (AUTOMATED LAUGHTER) (LAUGHTER CONTINUES) (LAUGHTER CONTINUES) (SCREAMS) (LAUGHTER ECHOING) Em (PHONE DINGS, VIBRATES) Ugh! (LINE RINGING) It's Emma.
Leave a message.
(AUTOMATED LAUGHTER) (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC PLAYING) (CLANGING) (AUTOMATED QUACKING) (AUTOMATED QUACKING) (CLANGING) Kieran? Kieran? (AUTOMATED LAUGHTER) (LAUGHTER CONTINUES) I hate clowns.
(LAUGHTER ECHOING) (LAUGHTER CONTINUES) (LAUGHTER CONTINUES) (AUTOMATED CACKLING) (CACKLING CONTINUES) ACOSTA: Dwayne, you still have eyes on Emma Duval? Affirmative, Sheriff.
Kieran! (HORN BLARING, TRAIN BELL RINGING) Kieran! (GASPS) - Oh, my God.
- (GROANING) (AUTOMATED LAUGHTER) (MUFFLED MOANING) (SIREN BLARING) MALE OFFICER: All right, stay back.
Get these people back.
(SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC PLAYING) - Drop the weapon! I said, drop the weapon! - (MUFFLED MOANING) Get down on your knees! Down on your knees, now! (MUFFLED MOANING) Emma, drop the weapon.
Where's Kieran? Where's Kieran?! Emma, listen to me.
Emma Emma, step back and drop the weapon.
That's right.
Put down the gun.
Put your hands on your head! Now! Take him.
(GASPS) Oh, my God! Kieran! Kieran! Oh, my God! Kieran! - I don't know what to say.
- It's not your fault.
I thought he'd killed you in there.
He lost tonight.
We won.
Why do I feel so horrible, then? When I was in there, I thought I was gonna die.
- You were never gonna know the truth.
- What are you talking about? The reason I was fighting with Eli, everything I was in the car the night my parents died.
I got into a fight with my step-dad.
He got so mad And he took his eyes off the road - Kieran - I caused the accident.
And it's on me.
I carry that around.
No.
No, that is not your fault.
Just like tonight isn't your fault.
Why didn't you tell me about that? I wanted to.
It was the worst thing that ever happened to me.
When I found out Eli may have told you, I lost it.
Why did he do that? 'Cause anything good in my life, Eli tries to take.
And you're the best thing.
I don't want to lose you, ever.
The killer sent me a clip of Emma going in the Funhouse.
He obviously wanted you to know what he was doing to Emma.
He wanted me to feel responsible.
He wanted me to be responsible for whatever happened.
It's all on me! Everything is my fault! No, I'm done.
I am done! I am not gonna do what he wants anymore.
I'm gonna tell Emma.
I'm gonna tell her everything tonight.
Congratulations, Lady of the Lake.
Seems pretty silly now.
How's Kieran? He's gonna be fine.
And it's not silly.
You went after something you wanted and you got it.
- No interruptions.
- Okay.
(PHONE RINGING) - Sorry.
- That's okay.
(RINGING CONTINUES) - Are you gonna get that? - No, no.
I am I'm in this right now.
(RINGING CONTINUES) - You should probably get that.
- I'm just not even gonna look at it.
Is it Audrey? I mean, yeah, but she's just she's been going through a lot tonight, so Okay, you know, maybe we should just wait.
- A lot has been going on - Zoe, we don't have to worry about anybody else, right? But we do and you do.
I think I just need to leave.
- I'm gonna go.
- Wait, you're just leaving? Yeah.
We'll know when it's right.
It's not now.
It's okay, Noah, really.
It's okay.
(DOOR OPENS, CLOSES) (SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC PLAYING) Thanks for coming.
NOAH'S VOICE: Testing, testing.
Welcome to The Morgue.
I thought you were going home.
AUDREY'S VOICE: I was but, if I don't tell you this tonight, - I may never be able to.
- NOAH: Okay, go.
AUDREY: I know why the killer is after me.
He knows what I've done and that I would do anything to keep it secret.
I brought Piper to Lakewood.
I can explain.
